She wasn't always doing chores. She never shirked them - always, she'd punctually arrive and fashionably finish - but it wasn't enough to keep her constantly busy, which was good. Chores were rather monotonous. They always were. No matter who you were or where they came from, it's not like they were exciting. That's why Samael was very, very glad she had time to do other stuff outside of them. And when she wasn't spending that time doing nothing, she was busy helping out in the creche.
Kids were her weakness. They were just too adorable for her to resist. Her motherly/bigsisterly instincts just kicked in, and she was wanting to be the best friend of every little creature she was around. Everyone found it odd - here she was, the flirty tomboy, always the one to volunteer for babysitting first. They always told her to do it for a living. Take care of other peoples' kids. Or better yet, have her own kids. But that was when her lack of motivation and her noncommittal tendencies kicked in. She just wasn't sure.
In any case, she'd spent most of the day down at the creche, helping the nice ladies there with the adorable children there. It was beginning to get a tad crowded, though, with more of the people who were supposed to work there showing up, and eventually Samael ducked out. She hadn't wanted to, really, but it had been squishy and that was no good. Instead, she went about being useless again. She was good at that.
The lower caverns were a winding thing. Quite winding. The boyish daredevil in her was kicking in. How far in could she get? How dark could she stand it? Pitch black, of course. She could handle that, no problem. She'd show those boys-- ah. well. That was habit speaking. There were no boys to show right now. A few Turns ago there would be, back when she still competed with them. The only person to show was herself, but that was okay.
Gosh, though. The glows were actually well-stocked this time. It wasn't getting pitch black yet at all! She was rather far in, though... hmmmm. [/blockquote]

She's got a smile that it seems to me, Reminds me of childhood memories, Where everything, Was as fresh as the bright blue sky.
Osro had great parents. Really, he did. That was probably part of the issue. If one took the stubbornness of an ice cold Weyrwoman, mixed in the ungodly patience of an aging Weyrleader, and added youthful exuberance, he was what one would get. He was almost three, but he wasn't almost anything. He already was plenty. The fact that he was trundling through the lower caverns, unwatched and unaccompanied, was normal enough. His mother and father were the only ones with an apparent knack for being able to hold onto him, and they were rather busy running the Weyr. So, for the most part, he was left to his own devices. Well, he was left to the devices of the crecheworkers, who he then evaded. He didn't like being stuck in one place. He liked to explore, so that was exactly what he did. Quite determined, he couldn't be called unmotivated.
Trundling along the current tunnel that he found himself wandering, Osro walked at a good clip, pumping his little chubby arms and moving his feet as best he could. He was sprouting up, but he didn't look like he would be that tall. What was most distinct about him was the mop of red hair he'd developed, a gift from his mother's side of the family, which tended to have a good number of redheads in their midst. His blue eyes, bright and clear, remained fixed on the next curve, eager to see what was around it. There was something magical about his explorations. Because he was so young, he couldn't remember where he went. There was no map inside his head, so each corridor was new to him. It was the big places that he could remember. The creche. The kitchens. His mother and father's weyrs. Those places were thus boring to him.
With a chattering shriek, Afzal came fluttering up the hall, causing Osro to giggle. The bronze was quite possessive of his bonded's child and settled on his shoulders, futilely trying to pull him back the way he had come. Giving the flitter an awkward pat, the weyrbrat continued forward, happy for the company but not about to stop what he was doing. "Affy can come weeth;" he said, happily beaming from ear to ear. Sighing in resignment, the bronze flitter wrapped himself more firmly around the little boy's shoulders and off they went, deeper into the bowels of the Weyr. Though the child of the Weyrleader's, he was no one's saint, no one's genius, and no one's sanity. With his adopted pet and practically brother on his shoulder, Osro had every intention of going on forever. That was until he ran into someone, much to his and Afzal's surprise.
And if I'd stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry, Sweet child o' mine, Sweet love of mine.

She hadn't been counting on company. Not really. Well, maybe she had been subconsciously hoping for someone to go adventuring with, but it wasn't really necessary. After all, it seemed much braver going it alone. There was more thrill. There wasn't anyone there to cling to except for yourself. It was exciting! Even this little petty expedition made her giddy. Everyone was allowed to act like a kid when they wanted to, and that's exactly what she was doing. After all, she really was just a kid still. She hadn't even decided what she was going to do for the rest of her life, so she definitely wasn't mature in that respect. She would probably just sit around and be a useless chore-doing candidate lump until she Impressed or something. After all, she'd been Searched, right? A dragon thought she was worth more than beans. Must mean something.
What with all these ideas of being an independent adventure-going brave girl, the little padding footsteps that came up behind her suddenly were a big surprise. Someone was there! Someone small. She knew a kid's footfalls anywhere. They betrayed their light weight, of course, and their lack of seriousness. They tended to sound like they had a purpose, though - a fun purpose.
And then something bumped into her, and the footsteps stopped. Well then!
She quickly looked over her shoulder, to see some indistinct mess of red hair and bronze firelizard. Careful not to jostle him further, she turned full around and crouched down to peer at the tubby boy's face. Was he alright? He probably was. It wasn't that hard of an incident, was it? Kids were largely invincible anyways. They fell and ran into things lots and most of them could just get right back up and go. It was just when you got older and bigger that things like that actually really hurt. Longer way to fall, of course.
"You alright, kiddo?" Samael asked, just to be sure. "What're you doing down here, anyways? Going on an adventure?" She grinned. "Well, me too!" [/blockquote]

Control yourself, Take only what you need from it. A family of trees wanting, To be haunted.
When the girl he had run into knelt down, Osro beamed a big, cheery smile at her. He hadn't been expecting her, but that didn't mean that he wasn't glad to meet her! "I'm fine;" he chirruped, wiggling excitedly. New people were always better than old people in his curious young mind. On his little shoulders, Afzal eyed Samael with suspicion. He was a dutiful guardian and would not allow any harm to come to his bonded's child. However, she seemed no worse than any of the crecheworkers. At her second question, Osro's brow knitted together in concentration. What was he doing? Then she went and provided the perfect answer. His face immediately lit up again, bright blue eyes glowing. "Yesh, an adventure;" he told her, nodding excitedly. He raised his pudgy, awkward hands and clapped happily, bouncing up and down on the balls of his little feet.
If she was going on an adventure too, that was so cool! Osro beamed up at her with all his might. "Me and Affy are goin' on an adventure! You should come tooooo!" He was very proud of himself for thinking up that idea. It was genius! He liked company when it was exciting company. Not exciting company was fun in the sense that it could be ditched, but that wasn't real company. That was responsible company. Daddy was fun sometimes, but not really. He was old. Mommy was old too. This girl wasn't old! She was young! "Where we goin' on an adventure?" Afzal gave a sigh at that question, though he was glad that it was ask. He was resigning himself to being dragged along in some less than brilliant scheme for the afternoon. Still grinning away, Osro gave him an awkward pat, sensitive to the bronze's moods even though he wasn't actually bonded to the flitter.
The water is warm, but it's sending me shivers. A baby is born, Crying out for attention.
