To say that Kire was panicked was an understatement. To say that she knew where she was going was polite. She had been wandering around the Lower Caverns and, seeing as it happened to be night there were few people about. She probably knew where she was in all liklihood, she had been at the Weyr for a couple of years now so it just seemed completely inconceivable that she would wind up lost of all things. She sighed and looked about her for any sign or indication that might just jog her memory a bit. She really needed to stop spacing out and thinking of other things while she walked. But she had just started thinking about the cute little firelizards and perhaps asking one of her fellow candidates for an egg when she had taken a couple of wrong turns and forgotten where she was. It was probably just that she had wandered a different way past a corridor and become confused as to precisely where she was. If she could find the Harper area then she might be alright.
After a few more minutes of wandering fruitlessly Kire began to feel a little tired. It must have been only early in the night, not at all a horrific time to still be awake but there was still hardly anyone awake to point her in the right direction. Perhaps she wasn't lost at all, perhaps she was merely making her situation worse than it was. If that was the case then it hardly made sense for her to keep moving. She searched for a hint of somewhere she knew searching the walls. The only problem with this was that almost every wall was precisely the same. Every corridor leading to another with doors. She didn't want to open any doors either in case she wandered into someone's room. She wasn't sure she could deal with that added embarrassment.
Kire sighed and sank to the ground figuring that if she just stayed where she was someone would find her eventually. As it happened, she was actually a couple of corridors away from reaching the kitchen but, Kire being Kire, the thought of using her nose or instincts never really crossed her mind. She wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

Shailen clutched the wall of the tunnel in mortal terror. No, he didn’t go out in the sun; yes, he was used to the dark; but he was not a Wher! This was not dark, but a complete absence of light! If Shailen knew his way around or knew that he might even be rescued, then the solitary blackness would have been comforting for him, but as it was, all he wanted to do was get out.
What a lousy idea; he berated himself. He had come down there to see if he could find out any more information about Whers. In theory, having a nocturnal partner rather than a large dragon who flew, betweened, and battled thread was perfect for him. However, Shailen knew almost nothing about the mysterious creatures, and if he was going to stand for one- A dragon probably wouldn’t have wanted me anyway- he wanted to know more about them.
But he was not having any luck so far.
It seemed like forever that he crept through the tunnels beneath the Weyr, holding onto the walls for guidance and moral support, before he finally ran into someone. Literally. With no warning whatsoever, Shailen tripped over something big and warm and very much unlike a rock. Caught by surprise, he yelped and tripped, falling forwards and ending up sprawled on the floor. Perhaps being a Wher Handler wasn’t safe either…

Kire sat there for what seemed like hours, in actual fact it was only a couple of minutes, before she thought she heard something. She frowned. Was it her roommate coming to rescue her? Or one of the candidates wondering where she had gotten to? Was it someone who was worried about her? She smiled a little at the thought. How lovely it would be for someone to find her here. Perhaps they could have a talk about why she had wound up lost after two whole years being in the Weyr.
Her thoughts were interrupted, however, when someone tripped over her. She let out a squeal of surprise and heard a thud as someone fell onto the ground. She jumped a little and tried to stare around for the person. In the darkness, she thought she could see a shape somewhere on the ground. She hurt a little bit but it wasn't exactly debilitating so she crawled over to what she thought was a person and knelt beside them. "Oh my, are you all right? I didn't see you or else I would have moved. I'm sorry! I just happened to get lost and then I sat here-" She stopped abruptly, having spoken very quickly.
There was no need to give him her life story without a need for it. Then again, at least he wouldn't be mad at her if she explained exactly how she had come to be seated on the floor at that precise moment in time. She took a deep breath and began again. "Um... Are you lost as well...?" She asked after a moment, "I really shouldn't be because I've been here a long time but I just wanted to walk around and I lost track of where I'd been..."
She realised, a little belatedly, that he probably had no idea what she was saying as all her words just about ran onto one another in quick succession as she strove to justify her actions.

Everything went white for a flicker when Shailen hit the ground. Not long after, pain began to throb on his hands, arms, and head. He had thrown his arms out instinctively to try to catch himself, but they had done nothing but gotten in the way. Instead, he had smacked face-first into the dirt. The sensation of pain frightened him, and he scrambled to roll over and sit up. Examining his hands was useless in the blackness, but Shailen imagined the worst. He raised one hand up to tenderly touch his forehead and was convinced that he felt blood. I’m going to die!
But the voice of a stranger scared him even more and made him leap where he sat. Unable to flee, he simply tensed up and listened with wide, frightened eyes. The sudden flow of words barely registered with him in his current state, but he managed to get the gist. The news that the other person was not only lost but also a Candidate was a great relief to him and he relaxed a little.
He didn’t know where to begin though. The stranger, a girl, he realized, had thrown several questions and a lot of information at him all at once. It was an odd feeling to go from being overwhelmed by nothing to everything in a very short period of time. ”You’re lost too? was the first thing and most important thing that worked its way to the top of his mind. It was really too bad that she was, since she said she’d been at Dalibor for a while; otherwise she could have helped him out. As it was, now they were useless and lost together. Misery loves company, however. ”I’m sorry I fell over you,” he added pathetically. ”I can’t see anything down here… Are you okay?” His own mortal wounds throbbed self-righteously, not to be forgotten. I must be losing a lot of blood, he thought with fear, dizzy at the very thought. If I don’t die from that it will be infection. ”Do you know how to get out? he squeaked, clutching his hands to his chest. ”Or to the infirmary?” He was scared, but he didn’t want to admit it, to show his emotions, to someone he didn’t know- and couldn’t even see, for that matter!
ooc: FYI, he's just a little scratched up XD

Kire stopped talking abruptly when he asked whether she too was lost. She nodded he assent. She took a moment to realise that he couldn't actually see her before she voiced her assent. "Yes, and I really shouldn't be, I've been here for a long time and yet here I am. I thought I was heading to the kitchens but then I started thinking about something else..." She trailed off as he asked something else. She didn't think she was hurt. Nothing numbweed wouldn't fix if she even needed that. She just thought that she would get a couple of bruises from the accident but assumed that she'd generally be alright. She didn't have a broken leg or anything after all.
"Oh, I'm fine. Are you all right? You don't really sound it..." She trailed off, hoping he wouldn't get too upset or worried about being injured. She was worried that he really was injured and she had no idea of the way to the infirmary let alone anywhere else. Perhaps they should just walk until they found some light and then barge through it to find their safety. She pursed her lips a little. "Umm... Perhaps we should keep walking, I'm bound to run into somewhere familiar eventually." She stated after a moment.
Yet another foolish option from Kire. She had, perhaps, forgotten the one best option for what one should do when one was lost. Stay put. She was just so embarrassed that she was lost she thought it necessary to find her own way out. Kire squinted in the darkness, attempting to see something that looked familiar. She looked at the shape before her with concern. She wasn't even sure if the boy could walk let alone search for a familiar tunnel.
She looked about and touched the wall behind her, wondering whether it would offer any help. It did not, only served to confuse her even more. She got to her feet and then looked down the tunnel. "Can you walk?" She asked after a moment, voice laced with concern.

Shailen’s face reddened, fortunately unbeknownst to his mysterious companion in the darkness, when she asked if he was all right. She could tell that he wasn’t just by the sound of his voice. I must sound as bad as I feel, he thought miserably. ”I don’t know,” he replied earnestly, too upset to be timid now. ”I think I’ve cut myself really bad. I can’t see them, but my hands and my head both hurt. I think might be bleeding, and there might be rocks and dirt in there too…” He trailed off, his voice small and rather squeaky.
Though he too knew it was best to stay put if lost, the girl’s suggestion at once sounded appealing. The thought of staying there and bleeding to death haunted him in the darkness. Besides, if she had been here for as long as she said they were bound to find somewhere familiar- somewhere that she knew. Right? ”Yeah, let’s go,” Shailen agreed. Crawling onto his knees, which had somehow avoided being scraped, he pushed himself unsteadily to his feet, careful to avoid putting any pressure on his hands in the process. He reached out a hand to steady himself, letting his fingers press against the wall. He was wobbly from fear and paranoia. ”I think I can walk,” he said, trying to gather some courage. He looked towards where he had last heard the voice anxiously, ready to follow it anywhere. ”Which way?”

Kire looked at the dark shape of the boy with concern. They would have to move quickly so that he didn't lose too much blood. She wished she had something she could use to stop him from losing blood. She had a ribbon keeping her hair back... She could have given him that perhaps... But that would make her hair fall out. Then again, he wouldn't be able to see her with her hair out in this case and it would be better than having to drag him out of the corridor because he had passed out. She pulled the thick cloth ribbon from her hair and then reached out to the shape. She had taken his shoulder. "I have some cloth here if you want to stop the blood." She said quietly, "I think you should use it..."
She waited for him to take the ribbon meanwhile trying to think about which direction they should walk. If she recalled correctly she had taken a right turn so it followed that when they reached the end of this corridor they should take a left turn... Of course, Kire had forgotten that she had been walking in the same direction. She had forgotten where she was when she had sat down and, indeed, the way she had been walking. As it happened, if she continued walking in the opposite direction to what she was facing currently she would have reached the Infirmary. At the moment, they were heading deeper into the caverns slowly moving further and further away from the main Weyr.
"I think it's this way." She replied after a moment, "I think I remember walking this way. I'm Kire by the way, Wher candidate." She said the last bit with a degree of happiness and some slight hint of pride. She absolutely adored the fact that she would one day have a sweet natured creature to care for and have as a close friend. To dote upon and adore. She had never really considered dragons but had always loved the thought of nocturnal creatures.
