There were times where a body just needed less rest and more movement; and after the Hatching, that was exactly what Aylina found herself doing. It'd been a long day full of excitement... and of sadness due to the one dud egg in the clutch. She wondered how the Weyrwoman and her dragon were doing as she stepped out into the chill of the night, raising her eyes to the night sky.
She'd layered a bit, an extra two shirts, a short sleeved one and a one that's sleeves had ripped up to the elbows after a tussle with one of the canines in the stables back home that she'd mended, beneath the long sleeved one she wore atop the other two. It gave her a considerably more broad, masculine appearance than she was used to, but shrugged it off. No time to waste attempting to look dainty and feminine if it meant she'd freeze her damn ass off.
Humming to herself as she picked her way around and looked for a good place to contemplate things for a while. She wasn't sure why she'd been drawn back to the sands, only that it was a warm place and that she wanted to come somewhere that most wouldn't think to go. There wasn't another hatching taking place, the Weyrwoman and her Queen were back in their own... areas, or so she figured. Who knew how things were handled here. So, who would be out in the sands, or in the stands as it were, other than herself?
She dug her toes into the heated sands as she walked, relishing the almost-too-hot grains against her bare skin as she took a seat somewhere to the right of the entrance, plopping down in a distinctly undignified manner and stared at the place the soft, golden Queen had been not that long ago. Nature's a sharding she-bitch sometimes. Aylina thought and closed her eyes, lulled a little by the heated sands and warmed stone at her back.
Maybe, just for a little while, she'd rest here and let her thoughts wander.

It was certainly darker now and there seemed to be a sleepy sort of feeling settling on the Weyr. Even the handlers didn’t seem to be as energetic. Certainly, following the hatching people were eager to congratulate those who had Impressed and comfort those who were perhaps disappointed not to. Kire was one of those who preferred to mostly stay out of everything. Still, she could not resist returning to the sands just to take a peek at them. Perhaps she would see some of the pretty shell colours…
Kisk bounded along behind her, pouncing happily on nothing every now and again. She could hear his happy gurgling and shuffling movements that indicated he was waggling his whole body. Kire knew that he would have been waggling even more had he been born a dragon. As it happened, the knobbly parts on his back prevented him and he merely managed a strange, skipping shuffle.
They walked their way onto the sands and Kisk bugled excitedly at the interesting smells. He ran a tight circle with excitement. It was rather like being back on the sands and looking for his Best Kire except there were only two people now.
… Two people! Kisk trumpeted again and tried to follow the smell, running towards the edge of the sands and rearing up on his hind legs to look around. He’d not been in the other area all that much! Kire ran after the black wher. “What is it?” Kisk am smell person! Look! The wher charged for the person in excitement and then bugled again. Kisk am Kisk!!! BestKire be BestKire! You be you!?
He waggled his whole body, looking up at the woman as Kire made her hurried way over to join them both. “Sorry, he likes meeting new people.”

Her thoughts hadn't helped her figure anythin' good out, she thought with a sigh of disappointment, shifting her weight in the sands a bit to get more comfortable. They kept circling to that Queen's fury, the shame when she'd tucked her head beneath her wing and refused to lift it until probably all had gone away. Her condolences had probably gone unheard, and she was almost kind of okay with that if she tried thinking of it from the whole 'she probably didn't hear me because of the grief' angle.
...kind of, anyway. Still hurt, as there wasn't anythin' she could've done to help, not in that situation.
I wonder what happened to the egg? Aylina mused in a particularly broody manner that was pretty uncharacteristic of her. Did they open it to see what had gone wrong? Did they just throw it out? Did she eat the egg? Shards and shells, too many questions, and no one who'd probably find 'em appropriate if she asked to answer 'em. Maybe she'd ask an instructor in a little while, surely they'd have some sorta answer for her.
Sounds of... snuffling, and movement shifting through the sand caused her eyes to open. A few moments later, an odd bugling she'd heard a few times in her life gave her reason to feel a bit nervous. Shards; she'd been out there long enough that the watch-wher'd figured out she was somewhere she probably wasn't supposed to be? Her eyes adjusted to the area in time to see something rise up and look around.
...maybe if she just stayed stil- nope; it'd caught her scent. Shards and shells. She swore silently and slowly rose to her feet as a... kind of clumsy form that blended in pretty well with the night stopped before her and did something that could only be a full body wiggle- complete with tail whipping back and forth like one of the canines some of the beast handlers tended to use to herd 'em together. Aylina was rather startled further by the sudden... voice, very young and very excited sounding, in her head speaking to her in a pretty broken way. It was like listenin' to a little kid try talkin' when they were just figurin' it out, that kind of thing, she thought to herself and blinked, feeling the tension start draining out of her and a smile come on her face despite the darker mood that'd been holdin' fast before.
“Ain't a problem, he's pretty cute an' friendly; haven't heard of any like that before.” She replied with a smile to the one who had to be this guy's handler. Probably exasperated with 'im as all get out too, she thought to herself and looked back to the little watch-wher. “Name's Aylina, nice t'meet ya, Kisk.” Brown eyes looked back up to the handler. “You too, Kire, if I got that right. If it's 'BestKire', lemme know.”

”He’s supposed to be fierce…”
The black wherling looked worriedly down at her wher. Kisk was now looking up at Aylina with a rather dopey sort of expression on his face, tongue still lolling out of the side of his mouth. There was no doubt about it, Kire loved Kisk and would probably do anything for him but she couldn’t help but worry about him. When they were actually performing their patrols he would be just as likely to run up to an intruder and lick them as he was to alert the Weyr to the intrusion.
“Oh, yeah I’m Kire. He just… Well, I’m apparently the best according to Kisk.” She beamed in spite of herself. Kisk had chosen her and proclaimed her to be the best. In fact, the black wher called her the best almost every other second of the day. It worked wonders on a girl’s ego. Nice meet, nice meet! Kisk am happy see! Kire stepped out of the way as Kisk ran another tight figure eight around the two females.
“Umm… Did you stay here after the hatching? That’s rather a long time to be sitting in the cold! Do you need a jacket or something? Perhaps some klah. Oh, yes, klah would warm you up right away!”
Kire grinned happily, she would be perfectly happy to take Kisk to find some warm clothes and food for Aylina. It was sort of a cool night after all. Plus, if she had been out here since the hatching Kire could only imagine how cold she could have been. Oh, she was in the stands too so she was probably a rider. Maybe her dragon was asleep. Maybe this was one of the Jr Weyrwomen! Wait, was she supposed to bow or something!? Well, it was too late now… Kisk am hatch here once! Run around. More people at time. All stand. KISK AM HATCH FIRST!!!
The black wher puffed himself up proudly and looked between the two females.

((Kisk is turning me into a fangirl. Why must he be so cute? XD))
...was it just her, or was that comment toward her wher sounding kind of forlorn?
Aylina sneaked a glance away from the silly expressioned, tongue hanging out the side of his mouth wher and caught the worried look on her face. Yep, definitely not like other wher. She considered the possibilities of a friendly wher like this one, especially if intruders were prone to coming in... and the kind of advantage one could probably take over an honest, happy heart like that one's. Regardless of the distinctive lack of ferocity, Aylina could tell from the girl's- Kire- beaming that she was still proud of the little black wher regardless.
Seeing the partnership brought a pang of loneliness like she hadn't felt since the third night spent alone in the Candidate's living quarters. Must've been nice to have a buddy like 'im to have around and wile away the long hours when one couldn't sleep. She smiled despite herself, watching him run figure eights and wondered how he didn't make himself dizzy as anything. “Betcha the moment somethin' actually gives 'im reasons to think you're in trouble, he'll show his teeth like nobody expects.” She told the girl, recalling a canine that was almost like him when it came to people, but the moment anyone with ill intent had so much as passed, it'd been wild eyed, snarling and showin' more teeth than she'd thought possible.
“Huh? Oh, no, no, not that long.” She was quick to shake her head, reaching up and scratching her head sheepishly. “I, ahh, couldn't sleep, that's all. So I thought I'd see if the cold air and warm sands could take care of that.” Brown eyes gazed out across the sands. “First hatchin' I ever saw, didn' Impress and didn' expect to. M'brain's probably just runnin' overtime.” She smiled a little crookedly at the admission. “But if you'd like some klah, I'd be happy t'get some for us both.”
Any other awkwardly phrased admissions or gut spilling, the verbal kind of course, were quickly interrupted by the excitable chatter of the little black wher. She laughed despite herself and looked down at him. “You hatched first huh? So you're the oldest- and the best- out of the bunch?”

((Haha XD))
Kire rather hoped that Aylina was right. He had stood up for her against a firelizard once! Maybe he would be able to stand up for her against other foes too! Kisk would probably protect her but would he protect the Weyr? Well, time would tell. With Kalesk leading them maybe he’d follow her and listen but Kire had her doubts. Kisk tended to forget a lot of things. Well, perhaps he would simply grow out of that as time passed. He was, after all, only one turn old. Would she expect such responsibility out of a human the same age?
“Yeah, I think you’re right,” Kire brightened almost immediately.
Oh well, at least she hadn’t offended their Weyrwoman or something similar. Aylina must have been a candidate and had obviously not impressed at the hatching. Kire knew how that felt, to see those people she had done chores with impress and move on with their lives and their partners. It had been rather a lonely time. “Oh, well it shouldn’t be long until another one… Maybe?”
She didn’t honestly know how often dragon hatchings were but she knew they came around far more often than the wher hatchings. Even with a new Gold they would be waiting at least another turn for hatching. Well, at least she had Kisk. She knew there were a couple of candidates whom had not impressed at the red and gold hatching…
Yes! Kisk am best! Choose best! Oldest, watch sister and brother. Teach how be smart! Kisk giggle gurgled and waggled his whole body, watching the other female with some interest. You hatch first?
Maybe she had hatched first too! BestKire had hatched second with another. He knew that because he was an Amazing Investigator! Plus, his BestKire had told him. He wished there was something here to play with. Ooh there was! On the sands he could run around and dig holes! That would be fun. He would wait for a moment though.

There was just somethin' about takin' care of a worry that made her happier than lettin' someone figure it out or chew on it on their own. And, judging by the way the handler seemed to perk up a bit, Aylina felt like she'd done her job and felt something within herself seemed to start relaxing, just a little. "No idea," the blonde admitted with a bit of a sheepish grin. "but I can be patient, not like I'm in a huge rush, unless they don' tent to Impress if you get too old an' such. Then I might need t'worry."
More amusement as she watched, and listened, to Kisk's antics and proud boasting that he was the best, had chosen the best and was the oldest. "That right? Well, if you're firstborn, your sibs have a lotta catchin' up to do if they're gonna try an' beat ya, that's for sure." Couldn't hurt to give the pup, and why did she keep wanting to call him that?, some moral support.
...besides, that gurgle thing he did, complete with full body wiggle was giving her the worst urge to start giggling like she was twelve turns again.
Aylina shook her head at the question. "Nope, third hatched." Ahh, how she missed her little sister, and her older brother with his stupid racing games that she always lost, the jerk. Brown eyes turned to Kire again, curiosity lingering in her expression. "What brings the two of you out here?"

Ah well, she wasn’t as best as him but then being the bestest wasn’t possible. Kisk was already the best there was. Well, aside from Kire. She had hatched equal second so that was sort of third. Perhaps the first and third to hatch were always the best. Could whers and people be equal best? Kisk rather hoped they could… Well, maybe there were some whers who were best and then some people who were best. Either way, Kisk was rather happy that he was with best people.
That good still. BestKire hatch second with sister. Kisk am play now! Kisk bugled excitedly and then charged down the sands with much waggling of his body and onto the sands where he proceeded to run about in a circle and then perform a flying leap to land in the hot sands and roll about.
With Kisk’s sudden departure, Kire looked back at her companion with a confused expression, which she swiftly masked with a smile. “It always feels like forever until the next hatching but it’s always worth it.” Well, perhaps not for Dragons but definitely for whers considering that there was no age limit. Kire always tried to do the same thing Qosis had done for her. Give everyone some hope that they would Impress, it made them rather more confident for the next hatching.
“Well, we all have patrols to be doing but I thought Kisk and I might practice. We’re doing a good job having found you!” She exclaimed happily. Except they hadn’t done anything once they’d found Aylina… Should she have…?

He definitely acted like the canines she'd seen roaming around the Hold. Aylina grinned at the antics of the Wher, shifting her weight a little to her other foot and folded her arms over her chest as she did so. Must've been nice to have such a cheerful friend like that, he'd definitely keep whatever Hold or Weyr he wound up needing to patrol safe- and would probably give smiles to everyone involved even if they didn't want to give 'em.
"I think it's better that way," Aylina finally replied after a long moment's consideration, the smile fading a little. "I'd rather not be caught not knowin' what t'do an' end up screwin' it all up, y'know?" She gave a bit of a nod, as if that would settle the matter. A considering look was leveled at the wher currently rolling about in the sands. Probably felt good, heck, just standin' on the sands felt nice to her- could only imagine what it did for the dragons and whers of the Weyr.
At the mentioning of practicing, her brown eyes lit up. There was something that would take the sadness out of her thoughts for a while, maybe it'd even wear her out to the point she could go sleep like she was supposed to at this hour. "Anythin' I can do to help the two of you practice?" A moment's pause, and a grin. "More than prolly bein' somewhere I'm no s'pposed to be, anyway."

Ooh that was true too. Kire could hardly even imagine impressing when she knew very little about whers or dragons. She had never been a candidate for dragons but she knew that there were a couple that had been dragon candidates and, when they had aged out, they had become candidates for whers. She supposed there would be some who impressed to dragons very young and could hardly imagine how tough it would be to care for a ginormous dragon when only thirteen turns!
“Yeah, I see what you mean! It wouldn’t be easy to come into a Weyr and be thrown right into caring for a dragon. I guess it’s really important to have a couple of lessons too!” Kire nodded seriously at the thought. Well, hopefully there would be another dragon rising soon! That would be wonderful if there was another hatching on the way. Then again, it had only been a short while since all the Queens had Clutched. Kire couldn’t really remember much before she had bonded to Kisk. Everything before that seemed to be a haze.
“Oh, we’re practicing being watches! We’re supposed to be starting patrols soon enough but I thought we should go for walks sometimes and take a look at what we could see.” Yes! Kisk am amazing investigator!
Kisk scrabbled around on the sands, eventually rolling himself in them, gurgling as he tried to dig some holes. Kisk rather thought that if he dug enough holes in the sands maybe he would dig all the way through to a new place! Where would he go if he just kept digging and digging!?

A pleased expression slowly appeared on Aylina's face, something in the way the tall blonde seemed to relax a bit suggesting that she'd been worried about what the wherehandler might have thought about her inexperience. And was quite relieved, happy even, to know she wasn't being judged for her lack of knowledge. "Sounds like awful hard work, bein' a watch, I mean." She commented, her lips still curved in a contented smile now that she felt like she was safe from a scolding of some sort.
Maybe... maybe if she didn't Impress, and was told she was too old to Stand on the sands... maybe she'd be allowed to train to be a watch. Havin' a watchwher like Kisk wouldn't be bad at all, the brown eyed girl thought to herself with a mental nod. Yes, that's exactly what she'd look at if it turned out her time as a Dragon Candidate was for nothin'.
She went silent for a few moments, shifting her weight to her other foot and smiled at the gurgling wher. Shards, he was a cute one. "Think he's itchy or you think it just feels good to roll around like that on the sands for him?" Aylina watched him dig, wondering if he saw or smelled something in the sands and tried to see from where she was at in a particularly futile manner. Well no kiddin', you're no sharding wher and you think you can see. Wool between the ears 'stead of brains t'night. "Think he found somethin'?" She asked Kire quietly, whispering in case Kisk needed complete and total focus on his task.

”Oh no, it’s quite wonderful really. Once you get used to staying up all night it gets a lot easier. I know it was difficult at first and I always felt the need to perform chores during the day but eventually it became a lot easier.” Kire nodded seriously. She enjoyed her job even if she had yet to become a fully-fledged wherhandler. She could only assume that it would get easier with time. Sometimes Kisk was a handful and really tough to keep an eye on but he was mostly just a lot of fun to be around. She loved him more than she’d ever loved anything else.
Kisk kept digging into the sands with more concentration than Kire had ever really seen. His rolling made her giggle, reminding her of how he had hatched and eventually impressed to her. He’d done the same thing on the sands, performing similar antics. “I don’t know, I think he just does most things for fun.”
There was a doubtful tone to her statement. Kisk seemed to do everything for the ‘play’ aspect of it, rarely did he do something because he thought it practical to do so. At the hushed tone of the candidate Kire looked down at Kisk again with wonderment. “Maybe, perhaps we should go see.”
Excitement welled inside her, whether from Kisk or her own emotions, she did not know. She started down to the sands. DIGDIGDIGDIGDIGDIGDIGKISKAMDIG! The calls continued in her mind for a short while, causing the wherling to giggle. Maybe he had found something but he wasn’t concentration on it, rather concentrating on the ‘digging’ part. “Perhaps we can all continue our patrol together and walk around the hatching grounds.”

"Huh, sounds difficult." She liked sleeping during the night time hours and workin' hard the moment the sun started peekin' over the horizon. Maybe she should start looking up and learnin' about the Whers as well, and what all their duties entailed. Dun know much 'bout 'em other than they're guards of the place. She nodded, as if confirming her own idea as a good one. Couldn't hurt none to learn something new, and maybe she'd figure out a way to be helpful with some of them too.
"Well, if he thinks his job's fun, means it ain't much of a pain for him to do, y'know?" Her eyes studied the wiggling, digging form of the black wher carefully. "Means y'don' have to push at 'im or drag 'im to work an' t'do his job." She didn't know, but the comically loyal type like this guy just struck her as, well, exactly like a young canine. The type who were so eager to please they usually tripped themselves on up a bit and messed up, but learned and threw their everything into whatever it was asked of 'em.
A grin spread quickly across Aylina's face as she nodded quickly. "Good idea, I'm dyin' of curiosity here." So what if she was twenty turns? She could knock off ten for the night and just enjoy bein' with others who looked like they knew fun. She followed Kire down to the sands as well, pausing occasionally to see if she could see what Kisk was digging at before stepping quickly to catch back up. "That'd be fine, if the two of ya need to practice catchin' people, I can help with that too." She just wasn't tired, that was her problem. maybe helpin' those two out would wear her out.

Yes, Kire supposed it was difficult! Kisk was pretty clever then for being able to stay awake at night. Although she knew that they had just grown accustomed to the schedule, and Kisk had to be awake only at night, it didn’t stop Kire feeling better about herself and, indeed, prouder of Kisk. In the short time he had been alive, he had already learned so much. She had Brisk to thank for trying to help Kisk and being so patient with the wher. Not to mention Kalesk, their new gold.
Still, she rather thought that night was some of the best moments. Most people were asleep but they were still out and about. One never saw the whole of a place until they had wandered around it at nighttime. Everything looked different so anything she’d learned during the day she had to learn doubly hard at night! Aylina was so nice for saying she was smart. No one had ever called them that before. In Kire’s mind, things that were difficult equated with intelligence.
“Yes, I guess that is true. If he enjoys his job enough to have fun then we’ll do brilliantly.” Aylina was doing so much to boost Kire’s confidence. The older female was right, she just needed to push Kisk towards the right things. As they reached the sands, Kisk came bounding over to them through the darkness with another bugle. “Did you find anything?”
Kisk cocked his head to the side and then turned on the spot to take a look back at the holes he had dug. No remember! Kisk am find! “Well, that’s all right, we’re going to continue our watch! Aylina’s going to join us.” He wandered back over to the holes and dug again, eventually managing to find a piece of eggshell. He nosed it back to the females and then waggled at the thought of someone else coming on his watch. Kisk am like that much! Find something! Big! Not wher, else.
It had some faint colours, probably missed by people clearing the sands of the shards from Couineth’s hatching. It was about the size of her hand. [/blockquote]

Following the wherling was turning out to be one of the most fun things she'd ever done in her time there at Dalibor- she'd have to go seek out more of the two at some point if she couldn't sleep again. Could be fun, knowin' the Weyr inside an' out for both day and night; useful too. A bugle caught her off guard, blinking as she tried to figure out which direction Kisk was gonna come bounding from- and looked impressed when Kire seemed perfectly able to locate her Wher without much issue.
I wonder how much of that's because they've spent so much time together and how much's just natural? Judging by the conversation she was havin' with the little guy, he hadn't found something- or maybe he had, she though looking amused. He was going back over to where he'd been digging and looking back over 'em. Maybe I was right; just young and eager to do everythin', Alex was like that forever 'til he found out runnin' and such was good for 'im.
He seemed to have found something, nosing it back to Kire and herself, Aylina leaned over and checked out the new find curiously. Shell shard from one of the eggs. "So that's what they look like all up close an' such," she said incredulously, looking more than just a little excited. The whole Hatching had been one big mass of excitement, but this was somehow even cooler than bein' up front and crowdin' around like the other candidates had been. She looked at Kire, for all the world seeing the girl as much more informed and experienced than her own naive and completely clueless self was in these matters. "what happens to the shells after the hatchings?"
She looked at the eggshell again and back to Kisk. "Y'found that like it was nothin', you're a good treasure hunter there, Kisk."

Now that her confidence had been built up Kire had no doubts that Kisk was one of the best whers in the whole Weyr. He was, by far, one of the smartest creatures and it was partly this reason that she often deferred her judgement to him. Well, she certainly took a lot of his advice into account and tried her hardest to do what he asked. Kisk was still waggling his body proudly watching his handler and their new friend.
“Oh it’s always so exciting when you’re on the sands but I think the excitement sometimes stops people from seeing all the beautiful shells. I guess it’s what’s on the inside that counts.” Kire petted Kisk on the head resulting in more waggles as the wher’s pride escalated even more. It was strange to think that how simple it was to make Kisk feel proud of himself.
Kisk am once in one! It not broke. Then Kisk break! First! Kisk had forgotten he had already explained his hatching to Aylina once. He had a very poor memory for such things but even if he had remembered the wher thought it important for everyone to know he was the first to hatch. He was even the first to hatch out of the Gold’s clutch too even. First from his own clutch and first from the OtherMummy's clutch! Out of all of them he was first and best!
“Umm…” Kire had heard of it once, “I remember when I was in the Weyr as a child someone telling me that there were firelizards specially assigned to moving every piece of shell. Then they made beautiful necklaces out of them and gave them to the clutchmother! I can definitely see Vesta, my firelizard, doing that. She loves everything to be neat and tidy!”
There it was. Kire’s penchance for believing everything she had ever been told. For she believed even this with all her heart, smiling happily at her explanation. Kire was utterly convinced she was correct in her story.

Aylina grinned as she watched the wher and his handler interact with one another. She wondered if they ever tried to play with some of the dragonets, or if that would end in a fight. ...had they even tried to have the two work or interact with one another before? Maybe Kire would know... there was an awful lot she personally didn't know, so maybe askin' someone else would work.
"First and best, ain't that right, Kire?" She'd remembered when her younger sister was at the age she'd excitedly talk about something, go off on her own for a bit... and run right back up and tell it all over again. Hopefully Kisk felt included in the conversation, and that he was doing a good job. "Firelizards eh? Do they make the necklaces or their handlers do?" ...that was kind of a legit question, in her eyes, she was still trying to figure out just how... smart everyone was; dragons, firelizards and now whers. Her head was gonna get so stuffed full of information, she had no idea how she was gonna remember it all.
"For that matter, what happens if firelizards, whers and dragons meet each other? Do they get along or do the dragons and wher fight and not get along?" Maybe... maybe if she Impressed, and her dragon wasn't too big, she could bring him, or her, to come play some night if they both couldn't sleep. Kisk might enjoy that, and maybe her dragon would too. If she got a dragon, Aylina reminded herself not to jump to the assumption, less it make an ass out of her. "Say, how do you end up Standin' for a Wher anyway? Is it like standin' for a dragon?"

Kire couldn’t really imagine Couineth wearing any necklaces made for her by firelizards now that she really thought about that idea. Well, maybe Couineth would sell it to someone if she thought it would get her some sort of attention. She knew little of the gold dragon but did at least know that she was renowned for wanting all the attention everyone had to offer and basically being a little childish. Nothing wrong with that in Kire’s opinion, so long as the dragon wasn’t scary… “Yep! First is always best, especially in a clutch.”
Kisk waggled at the confirmation of his awesomeness and put his nose to the ground again, following a trail of smells from the hatching. Humans, dragons, some new smell… He’d smelled that particular one down at the lake and raised his head to sniff at it a little more. He didn’t think that smell should be here when they were in such a strange place. There was no water here so it didn’t make any sense at all. Oh well, perhaps there was water nearby.
“Hmm…” She’d never thought to ask that question, “I think the firelizards could make it themselves. Perhaps with a little help from their handlers but I don’t know about that because I would think their handlers were really busy with other things. Unless they’re also assigned the task… Perhaps they get some marks for it or it’s part of a craft.”
With that explanation out of the way, Kire looked back over at Kisk in response to the next question. “Well, Kisk gets along very well with Vesta but not so well with some of the other firelizards. He seems to get along well with just about everything but he’s yet to properly meet a dragon. Maybe when you impress your dragon can be the first he meets!”
Because there was no doubt in Kire’s mind that the woman before her would impress to something. Kisk no like bad firelizard. It attack BestKire. Kisk want eat… It no be doing right thing. Kisk sent an image to Aylina of Kire cowering from a blue firelizard and himself bravely protecting her, a memory that had definitely stuck with him. The very thought of something harming Kire had frightened Kisk enough to remember that particular bad blue firelizard.

The more she was around Kire and Kisk, the more Aylina found herself enjoying their company. They were easy folk to be around, and it didn't seem like either of 'em had any particular reason to... well, be anythin' but who they were. Not bein' stuffy or anything like that, like she'd heard some wherhandlers and dragonriders could be.
"I kinda wanna see that some day, I reckon it's pretty fascinatin' an' all." Trying to imagine it was something else all together though, were the little claws and such dexterous enough to get something like a bead on a string? She watched Kisk snuffling along with a smile, how many scents could possibly be in the area? "Hm, if I do impress, I'll definitely see if they'd play well together, might be fun. He's probably going to be about the same size, maybe a little bigger than a hatchling." She considered the idea and found she liked it.
She jerked as an image came unbidden to her, a frown on her face as what looked like a blue firelizard attacking Kire and Kire scared of the aggressive little beast until Kisk put himself up as her defender. Aylina looked impressed, and more than a little stunned at what she'd just seen. "Mean little bastard, that blue flit. Good thing you're around to keep 'em in line, Kisk." She looked to Kire. "...do they always do that?"
