C’ian wandered through the Weyrling Barracks in search of a friend! Shirath was good and all but C’ian needed them to meet some more people. Well, he didn’t actually like the fact that he was alone in a room… Shirath was with him, of course, but when Ez had been his roomie… It had been heaps of fun to be sure. Oh mine! We must find so many people who want us. Where did that beautiful Orange go? Or the gorgeous Tans. I would love to meet them again. They would want me, they surely would.
Shirath padded behind him, Cirrus sitting on his head. It was the first time C’ian had seen the little Flitt actually pay attention to just one thing for more than a minute. The Blue had been acting as such for a few days now as though entirely uncertain as to what Shirath was. Shirath didn’t seem to mind the attention just adoring the love he received from the Flitt. C’ian turned to face the purple and grinned cheekily. That’s what we’re doing! We’re looking for Ez!
C’ian petted Shirath’s muzzle and turned to run down the corridor. Shirath tried to follow, a little awkward on his feet, wings stuck out in order to steady himself a little. It was almost as though he had grown in the past few days following his hatching. Mine! I cannot be expected to keep up with you. Don’t leave me!! I don’t want to be alone!!
C’ian stopped and turned as the Purple slowed to stand beside him. He laughed at the Purple and shook his head. Why would I leave you behind!? He asked incredulously, Ah, nevermind! I think this is Ez’s room! So we’ll go and see him! You’ll like Ez! We can go for a walk. It’s going to be heaps of fun!

Worry and slight fear rolled in his eyes, the colors taking over to blot out the calm green that rarely touched it. Slight gaze was cast to his wings, making the Black worry even more. E'kiel mine, they will uh, heal right? I will be able to fly ok, right? Even mentally, his voice was shaky. Claws clicked against the stone floor as he stood, Stretching his wings to inspect the stitching once more. Aldebarath rarely spoke, but when he did, it was always full of worry. Mine? He asked again, looking to his young rider.
Pink hide squirmed in E'kiel's hands as he grit her teeth, his brow furrowing deeply with concentration. Tongue poked out a bit from his lips. Finally he gave up and tossed his hands in the air, splattering oil everywhere. “Rhapsody calm down!” He snapped, glaring at the pudgy Pink firelizard. As if laughing at him, she chirped and rolled around, getting oil all over his things. Taking a moment to calm down, he turned to the Black, his expression instantly softening. “You will be fine, I know it! Even if your flight it a bit rough, we'll take care of it. You know I will find a way.” Reaching over, he scratched his dragon's eye-ridges, neither really minding the oil that coated his fingers. He still hadn't got used to speaking to Aldebarath with his mind. And neither really minded. Aldebarath liked the slight musical quality of E'kiel's voice, and E'kiel just loved to talk. “We should go see Cor and his dragon soon. We haven't really talked to any of your siblings. Don't you want to meet them?”
Looking at His a bit confused, Aldebarath let his head droop a bit. Um... I don't think they will like me. I mean, I am not very good at talking and stuff. Plus he was scared. Just a bit. Ok, maybe a lot. But he didn't want to tell E'kial.
“Of course they will! I bet Cor will like you a lot. There's no reason why anyone wouldn't. And you won't get better at talking unless you talk. Silly dragon.” He grinned a bit and hugged the odd Black. “You'll be fine, and I'll be with you.”

C’ian looked back at Shirath who was readjusting his wings. He wanted to look his best for the new friends! He arranged himself in as beautiful a manner as possible and then looked expectantly and anxiously at the door. C’ian knocked on the door and then, without waiting for a response, opened it and stepped inside. Good thing he’d managed to get the right room! He practically bounced into the room, Shirath following. “EZ!!” C’ian half shouted and stepped forward to the younger male, “Hello!” C’ian bowed to the black and straightened with a broad smile.
Cirrus chirped happily and darted into the room to look at the pink. Oh! There were so many new things in here! And a large black firelizard! How strange! It was strange enough that there was a large purple firelizard hanging around them now but this one was even weirder. And it was with the one His had spent time with! Oh my! So many wonderful new things! Strange creatures and wonderful things to look at and play with! Cirrus took to the roof, fluttering around the ceiling excitedly, chirping every other moment. He turned and flew over to friendHis and chirped a greeting to him before taking off again to search the room. Hello pretty pink! Come play! He trilled to Rhapsody.
Shirath, meanwhile, had spotted the black dragonet. Not what he was expecting but he could certainly work with that. It was a little crowded but Shirath would make do with that. He pulled his wings into his body and turned his head suggestively to the Black. My you are a handsome, strong fellow. He tossed he head in what he seemed to think was a seductive manner and then settled down on the floor, tail flicking back and forth suggestively.
C’ian rolled his eyes at the purple and looked back at his friend. E’kiel was what he’d heard from people. The two had impressed together, just as they had hoped and they would be Weyrlings and eventually they would fly together! They would fight Thread together and save Pern! Just like they had wanted. Shirath didn’t seem too keen on fighting Thread, not wanting to get his hide messed up, but C’ian sure was excited about saving Pern alongside E’kiel. Oh Mine, you were right, I do like him!! I can show him how to be wonderful like me! He will surely want that! “Oh Shirath! He fancies himself something of a romantic.” C’ian explained to the other Weyrling, “How are you! I am so excited to have lessons! They are going to be so great!!”
He really was going to feel lonely without a roommate. Shirath was wonderful and he loved the purple but it would be so different without another person to go to chores with. Oh well, maybe he and Shirath could sleep over sometime!! He thought that might not be allowed but the thought did make him feel cheerier.

Lifting his head, E'kiel instantly brightened at the knock on his door. Whiping his hands on his pants he was about to call out when the door swung open. “Cor!” He cried happily, tripping over his feet a bit as she got closer. He to bowed, although his was a bit theatrical, with one arm sweeping gallantly beneath him.
Straightening up, he laughed a bit as Rhapsody instantly shot up, launching her chubby self into the air to meet the pale blue. She chirped a few times, as if asserting her dominance. She was the princess here! She was the princess everywhere. Seeing the Blue eye the Black, she landed, prancing over to jump on his tail. He was hers! Her big black firelizard! She trilled happily before darting off after the Blue again. Time to play! Time to play!!
Aldebarath had done his best to hide when he heard the knock. He was currently curled around his Couch, trying his best to blend into the shadows. For most Blacks, that might work. But with his oddly brownish hide it didn't work well. When Rhapsody landed on him he crooned a bit. He liked Firelizards! He liked all kinds of small animals. Carefully, he looked at C'ian, then Shirath. Oh no. The Purple was getting close to him. He backed up until he touched the wall, his eyes whirling in slight worry. What was this Purple doing??? Oh uh... T-thank you. He stumbled over his words, unsure of what to make of this situation he had found himself in. Aldebarath wanted to hide behind E'kiel. He wanted to just hide and talk to the firelizards.
E'kiel watched with growing amusement, grinning a bit. “It's ok Aldebarath, he's not going to hurt you. This is Cor.. I mean C'ian, I told you about him, remember? He was my roommate before you found me!” E'kiel still got giddy when he said it. He and C'ian were dragonriders! Just like they had wanted to badly! “Shirath huh? He's pretty! Wow, a purple. I was so happy when I heard!” He smiled, he wished he had been there. But Aldebarath needed him.
He had to stifle a few laughs when C'ian explained. “A romantic huh? Aldebarath is kind of the opposite. He's really really shy.” So the Purple had been trying to flirt? Poor Aldebarath, E'kiel could feel his confusion and concern. E'kielMine, what do I do? Do I uh, talk? Are you sure it's ok? I don't know what to do E'kiel strode over and placed a hand on his dragon's muzzle. It's ok, Shirath is a sibling. Everything will be ok. Just be yourself, say what you think needs to be said. He stroked's Aldebarath's eyeridges a bit until he calmed, his eyes returning to their faint blue-green. “I've been good! We've been getting Aldebarath's wings checked up yo make sure they heal right. I can't wait though! I heard there was only one dud. Our class is going to be huge!” He was so excited he could barely contain it. “And I heard a boy impressed a Tan!”

Cirrus seemed thoroughly pleased that the pink was willing to play with him. He too chirped and fluttered about Shirath’s head before rejoining the pink in the air. They were telling one another what interesting things they had found, right!? His had brought back something very interesting to play with. It was very strange. The first night the big firelizard had tried to speak to him in some strange way. Apparently they were now stuck with and had to love one another. Some creatures were so weird! He chirruped to the pink again and then set about the room searching for new and exciting things occasionally flying up to pinkfriend to play some strange version of tag. It basically consisted of him tagging her and then getting distracted by something else.
C’ian almost giggled girlishly as E’kiel bowed to Shirath. The purple probably didn’t even know what had happened he was too interested in the black. C’ian probably should have told Shirath to calm down a little but he was way too excited! He took a seat on E’kiel’s bed without waiting for an invitation and looked at the two dragonets for a moment, noticing the wounds on Aldebarath’s wings. “Oh! I hope he is all right! I saw that happen. Silly cyan. Well, I’m sure you will heal up nicely and show everyone how well you can fly!”
Shirath just about winked at Alderbarath and slowly crept closer. I will show you how to fly! It is very simple. I am pretty amazing so if you just watch me then you’ll get the hang of it. “I wouldn’t listen to him if I were you Alderbarath, he’ll start getting ideas.” Shirath looked at C’ian with a hurt expression and turned away to sulk, head drooped a little. But I am making friends! You told me to! That ain’t gonna make you many friends Shirath.
“Yeah! A boy did impress a Tan. I don’t know his name but word is he’s very much attracted to females.” C’ian explained with a laugh, “Shirath flirted with just about every dragon on the sands before he came over to me.” It was not flirting Mine, it was being friendly. I needed to show them all how it was done. C’ian wasn’t sure what it was but Shirath seemed to cheer up and had turned his attentions back to the black dragonet.

Rhapsody flew ratehr close to the large Purple firelizard and trilled. He was pretty! Not as pretty as her of course. But pretty none the less. How strand it was that the Blue and her had gotten the same gift! Because the big Firelizards were for them, right? Of course they were! She flew up in a corkscrew motion, then zipped ofer to tag the Blue before darting off. She hadn't have time to play with too many other firelizards!
E'kiel smiled a bit, warmed by his friend's concern for his dragon. “Yes, that Cyan wasn't very nice. But it's ok! I'm going to make sure they heal up nicely, and then we will out fly her in class!” He boasted a bit. Just judging by the Black;'s build, E'kiel felt he would be a fairly decent flier. “I still can't believe I missed your Impression!” He smiled. “I'll make it up to you. I'll cheer you on when Shirath first chases.”
Aldebarath was starting to calm a bit. This wasn't so bad. It was scary, and the Purple was a bit odd. But not so bad. You fly? He asked, ruffling his wings a bit. They hadn't been taught to fly yet! Was it because his wings? Had he ruined His' chance? A small bit of worry spiraled into his eyes. When did you learn that? Did we miss the class? He ruffled his wings again as he stood and paced some. He looked to C'ian when he spoke some. Still a bit worried. But, if His' friend said not to listen... It only occurred to him now that they Purple may have been simply putting on a show. Sitting down again, he looked to the other. E'kiel grinned a bit. A boy on a Tan? How odd! Their class would be so cool. “Really?” He laughed a bit. “You will have to watch him C'ian. Maybe one say we'll see a Hatching with a clutch he fathered!” E'kiel could only imagine the interesting children that Shirath could father. They certainly would be as interesting as the clutch they stood for.

“Ah it’s ok, Aldebarath needed to get his wings fixed. That was the really important thing.” C’ian replied kindly. He knew that it would have been annoying to have to leave or something but at least now Aldebarath would definitely be able to outfly the cyan who had harmed him! He would show them all how great he was, no doubt. C’ian laughed at the comment about Shirath chasing. “I’ll expect to see you cheering then!” He wasn’t sure he would truly notice it considering that he would probably not pay much attention to anything other than the Flight itself…
Shirath looked closely at the pink as she flew in close to him. She was also very pretty but a little too small and her thoughts weren’t nearly strong enough for him to actually contact her. No, the black was much more interesting to him. He did watch the pink curiously as she flew up higher and then tagged His’ pet. Oh no. I do not need lessons. I could just about teach them. You won’t get off the ground because your head’s too big. You are jealous that I am amazing. Shirath replied to His.
Shirath seemed to cheer up a little and stopped sulking when he realised that Aldebarath must have liked him! He had not walked off to leave him alone! The black must like him! Definitely! Oh he was so excited. He edged a little closer to the black with a coy dragon smile and a wink. C’ian looked over at the purple with some wariness. He didn’t want the purple to get the wrong idea and scare the black. The other dragon seemed a little anxious.
“Oh dear, I keep forgetting about that.” C’ian responded with a laugh. Any clutch Shirath fathered would be very interesting indeed. He’d probably try to teach them all the wrong things entirely by accident. It genetics factored into it at all and they wound up with his personality the Weyr would certainly be extremely interesting…
Cirrus turned in surprise when the pink tagged him whilst he was examining a shoe, apparently having forgotten he started the game. He then turned back to chase her, getting distracted every not and then by different things. Eventually he managed to get close enough to tag her back but kept near her looking at her in interest.

Laughed a bit, sitting on the edge of his bed next to C'ian, looking to the Purple and the Black again. “It really was.” It was easy to tell E'kiel adored his dragon. He was protective of the small black. Highly protective. He would go to great lengths to help him shine as he should. That Cyan? He would deal with her and her rider. He'd make sure Aldebarath proved that he was better, but he wouldn't push Aldebarath too much. He would lead him gently. His attention reverted back to his friend though, a broad grin crossing his lips. “I'll be the loudest!” He too was sure C'ian wouldn't hear him. But it was the thought that counted, right? “Doesn't mean I'm gonna let you wing if Shirath and Aldebarath chase the same dame though.” Nothing wrong with a little friendly rivalry, right?
Aldebarath crooned a bit at the Pink and her friend. How he loved them! They could all fly! How he wanted to fly! He could only dream about it, but hopefully he would be able to soon. Then he could hide. He could hide very well. I can't wait to fly! The black stopped quickly though, his enthusiasm even confusing himself. I mean, If it's ok for me to fly and such... He felt bad for his outburst. How could he be so rude? And to someone he didn't know well? He didn't want to talk about himself or things he liked. He was fine listening.
Aldebarath wanted to be enthusiastic about his dreams. For he dreamed about flying every night. He couldn't wait. It made his wings tingle to think about it. The Purple's odd approach made him give His a slight look of confusion. Was this ok? He wasn't sure if this was a proper way to act! He just gave him a faint, wary dragon-y smile.
E'kiel leaned forward a bit, stretching some as he laughed. “Won't they? I wonder if Aldebarath could ever father a clutch... I don't even know if he'll chase. I think he might worry and fret too much.” It was like he had forgot about what he said earlier. When thinking about it, Aldebarath would be the kind that would rarely chase a dragon he didn't know. He would want to introduce himself, make some awkward conversation. The idea made him want to laugh. He felt he was better with the fairer sex than his dragon was.
Rhapsody trilled lazily and looped in small circles, the chubby firelizard tiring out some. When he tagged her back, she landed on the bed and curled up, making herself comfortable. She kept her eye on the Blue though! He was new. He was interesting. He also had his strange Purple-Lizard and His, though Rhapsody knew of the Blue's. He had been with them in other room. Other room was smaller than this one.

It was great to be with E’kiel again if only for a little while. He half wished they could be roommates. If Shirath were only a little smaller perhaps they could have been roomies together. He was pleased that Aldebarath seemed to be getting better. Hopefully the wings would not have any lasting damage but they seemed to have healed fairly nicely so far. Regular check ups would hopefully fix any other problems. Of course, he wasn’t a healer so he could only assume that everything would fix itself.
Of course it will be ok to fly! I shall soar through the air like a beautiful rainbow. None shall be able to compare with my beauty. Do not worry; you too shall look absolutely beautiful in the sky. Your wings are only harmed because you fell from the heavens. Everything will get better. Shirath winked at the black in what he assumed was a charming manner. The compliments were the best he had. It would take him some time to think of others.
“I think he would be able to. I’m sure he’ll be more confident when he’s older. There are a few whites and grays about that he might be able to chase. Oh it would be great if he and Shirath fathered a clutch at the same time.” C’ian smiled. He didn’t really think too deeply about what Shirath Chasing would mean for him. Much of that stuff seemed to fly straight over his head.
Cirrus chirped unhappily when he noticed that the pink had tired of playing. He tagged her a couple more times as though trying to convince her to keep playing but then noticed some more interesting things. He took to the roof flitting about the light and then darted down to take a look at some of E’kiel’s things. It was the same stuff he had seen before but they were now in a new place!

E'kiel also missed Rooming with C'ian. He didn't know his new roomy very well. He hadn't even spoke to the boy. Maybe when they moved to their own Weyrs, once they had graduated, they could room next to each other. Though E'kiel didn't know how likely that was. But by then they could fly, so they would only be minuets away from each other either way. It was an exciting idea. He already knew he and Aldebarath would work hard to do their best.
Aldebarath was not quite prepared for what the Purple would say next. Such nice words! If dragons could blush, Aldebarath would have been bright red. His eyes whirled in pleased colors, he didn't quite know what to say. T-thank you. He stuttered a bit, tapping his tail lightly against the ground. He wanted to say more! But he knew he couldn't speak and prettily as Shirath did. Being around the Purple made him feel... Funny. Almost like what he felt for his rider, but different. He couldn't understand it well. So he buried the feeling the best he could, although his eyes still had that pleased blue-green color.
“Yea, I sometimes forget that Whites, Grays and Yellows can clutch! That would be fun. I don't know if there would be many eggs, but I think it would be nice. They could help teach the new Weyrlings together! It would be great fun.” Of course, that's not how is usually worked. But maybe, they could try and hope and wish. That would be good enough for E'kiel. Neither boy really thought much on what chasing entailed. E'kiel was just starting to notice both girls and boys, and that he could have things other than friendly feelings for them. But he still wasn't sure how he felt about it.
Rhapsody rolled on the blankets a bit, trilling. She wasn't tired of playing, but she wanted to watch. To watch this Blue poke around her stuff. Yes, because everything was hers. Not E'kiel's. She claimed it all.

What was this? The black had thanked him!? Did that mean the black… loved him? Almost as much as His loved him. Shirath seemed pleased with himself. He flicked his tail about with a draconic smile and then nodded majestically before turning his eyes on His excitedly. MINE MINE!! I think Aldebarath likes me! I think he loves me! Oh I feel wanted. I am so beautiful that everyone will want me, even that silly orange.
He huffed at the memory of the sands and his sister abandoning him. She, like the iron, would never know ShirathLovin’. Their chance had long since passed. Now he had love to give to every other dragon in the Weyr and they would feel remorse for leaving him behind. He was the best dragon in the whole Weyr. He turned his gaze back on the black. We shall show all the others how wonderfully we can fly. We will top every class, dear Aldebarath.
He didn’t add in the fact that he would most definitely be the best in the entire class. Aldebarath probably knew that anyway. He was wonderful after all. That’s great Shirath. I told you you’d like E’kiel, didn’t I?
C’ian nodded. It was great that there were so many dragons to chase. “Oh yeah! And I bet that our Weyrlings will be the best on the whole of Pern. They’d defeat Thread all by themselves!” He didn’t know whether they would ever be able to lead together, he wasn’t sure that he wanted to lead ever, but he was certain that any children Shirath and Aldebarath had would be amazing. Hopefully they would impress extremely well. He’d have to keep an eye on all that.
Cirrus finally landed on Shirath and looked into his eye, chirping happily at the purple as though inviting him to fly in the air. Shirath flexed his wings slightly but hung his head when he realised he could not fly here.

Aldebarath did love him! Kind of. It was hard to explain, but he liked the Purple. Was that ok? The black was a bit confused by the emotion, but he decided that was not something he would worry about. No, of all things he could worry about, he figured that thinking too much about the emotion would just confuse him more. He moved to bump lightly against E'kiel, looking at his. I like him Mine. I like them. They are nice and good.
He sat and flicked his tail happily. Maybe it wouldn't be bad to meet his other siblings. He would have to thank the Green who had helped him too. Aldebarath ruffled his wings a bit. We will, won't we? We will be the most beautiful in the sky, right! He would look good in the sky, or at least he hoped he would. He and Shirath would impress their hatchmates and they would get friends!
I'm glad you like them, I knew you would! C'ian is my betstest best friend. So I knew you would like him. Shirath is very very nice too. It couldn't have got better for E'kiel. He reached over and patted Aldebarath on the head. He was glad the black was coming out of his shell some.
E'kiel didn't really think much about chasing. Well not actual chasing. He thought about the babies, and how cute they would be. The actual implications of chasing? They flew over his head. “Oh I know! We would have the best class of Weyrlings. We'd teach them to do all sorts of cool things!” The other thing that flew over his head? The fact that the Clutchfather's didn't teach the new Weyrlings. But it didn't stop him from daydreaming. He was sure if Aldebarath chased he would be good about it. No dirty tricks.
Rhapsody rolled over a bit and snuggled into her blankets, still watching the Blue as well as his human and his odd Purple firelizard.

Shirath continued to sulk for a while about his wings not being large enough to fly and drooped his head as he watched the firelizard take off into the air. How was it that this tiny creature was able to fly and he could not? He felt the blue land on his back and then run around like a mad wher and cheered up a little upon hearing what Aldebarath had to say about flight. Yes, the black was right! How foolish he had been to get distracted by the blue. Of course we will! You will be able to blend in with the night sky. The beautiful night sky! So mysterious and unknown just like a certain black dragon in this room.
Shirath winked at his black brother flicking his tail once again in a cheerful way. He seemed pleased with his new friend. It was even better because he felt that the black liked him! He shuffled a little closer until he was a couple of lengths from Aldebarath and stared into the black’s eyes. My goodness, what is that in your eye!? It looks like a sparkling jewel. Oh. No, that is your eye and it is more beautiful than any jewel on Pern.
C’ian thought the continued flirtation from Shirath was probably wasted but he figured he would probably hear them repeated more than once over the years they would be together. He smiled. No matter what happened he was certain they could help any of the Weyrlings if they needed it!
“Even if we can’t teach them we’ll be able to help some of them out later on. I guess that’s the good thing about being in a Weyr, you do get to meet everyone. I haven’t actually seen too many riders myself but I am definitely going to be the rider who wanders about trying to talk to everyone. Offering useless advice.”
He laughed lightly at the thought of offering harper advice to a candidate or Weyrling. Even if Shirath never managed to have children he would be able to help out the Weyrlingmaster, surely! One could never have too much help after all!

Firelizards were amazing. They could fly right after hatching! Such instinct. Aldebarath got all starry eyed just thinking about it. He watched the blue, casting a glance to His' own pink. She sat like a rock. Dull and boring. She wasn't being a very good host at all. Depressing. Still, there wasn't much Aldebarath could do about her. He was distracted by Shirath though, sitting up when the purple spoke. He hung on every word, his eyes swirling quickly at the compliment. You think so? Now Aldebarath couldn't think of anything but the night. Him, blending in well with it, darting between stars. Ok, so perhaps he had a small vain streak.
He ruffled his wings eagerly. Oh! Why couldn't they get bigger? He wanted to fly so badly! Despite the affection he felt for his brother, he was a bit startled when he got close. Was there something in his eye? Oh no! He hoped it wasn't something that would blind him! That would be just his luck. He shuffled a bit, but stopped when Shirath continued. He was temporarily speechless. The purple was so kind. He crooned happily and flicked his tail. It is nothing compared to your vibrant hide! Shimmering like the sea when Rukbat is high! Oh yea. He just brought it. The best he had. Or at least, he thought it was good. Aldebarath hoped the other thought it was good too.
E'kiel grinned, trying not to laugh to hard. The black's words were a bit much. But then again, he was young. Hopefully he would get better. E'kiel doubted that they would sway the purple with them, they were just too cheesy. “Looks like they are having fun.” He chuckled scuffing his feet against the floor a bit.
“That's true! We can always help, even if it's just a little bit.” Reaching over, E'kiel nudged Rhapsody some, and was rewarded with her rolling over some to kick at the air. Giggling a bit, he looked back to C'ian. “Even if he never fathers a clutch, I'll be happy helping all other weyrlings. I just... It's important, to help them the best you can. I mean look at us! We know so little. I'm so grateful to those teaching us, and some day, I want to teach too.”

Ohhoho, a challenge? Challenge accepted. He would out charm the black for he was Shirath, amazing and beautiful at Rukbat. His hide glittered like Rukbat’s rays. Well! Shirath saw what the black was doing. He was indeed a worthy opponent, definitely worthy of his time. Well, perhaps he had been mistaken in his assessment those to whom he would devote his time. Aldebarath was proving everything he had thought at the hatching wrong. Perhaps he would not pay attention to the greens and only them. Maybe the Cyans too… Aldebarath certainly served as an example contrary to his former beliefs.
I do think so. I believe that in the shadow of the night you could soar through the air and take whatever you wanted. Shirath purred, Thank you kindly for your compliment. I certainly hope to one-day fly in the same light, above the sea.
He couldn’t believe how enthusiastic he had become over something as simple as his hide being complimented by another dragon! He knew that his hide was wonderfully amazing but to hear it from another dragon lifted his spirits more than he would have thought possible from such a comment. Aldebarath was such a quiet dragon but seemed to be feeling more confident. Of course that was him, it was all him! He, Shirath, was an amazing purple who would teach all others how to do everything!
C’ian grinned, his eyes unfocused while he thought about finally flying on the back of a dragon, a dragon that he was bonded to no less. Now that he had impressed Shirath he knew just how much work it was to care for a dragon but it was all worth it. To see Shirath happy and watch him grow because of the work was something C’ian would love. Seeing other Weyrlings accomplish things they had was also something to which he looked forward.
Even if they didn’t have the chance to actually train them it would be exciting to watch them once more. “Perhaps we won’t be the youngest in the Weyr soon. Maybe the youngest gold will also rise? Then maybe we can help them out! Shirath and Aldebarath will be a lot older by then. Maybe they’ll even be able to fly!”

Aldebarath didn't know what he had gotten himself into. This would be a Charm-off. The black had a hard time even thinking up that last one. For words, you see, were not his forte. He couldn't think of anything that was his forte at the moment though. But the purple was saying so many nice things! He wanted to say nice things too.
Thank you again, you are far too kind. He thought hard, trying to find a proper compliment for the purple. Oh but he couldn't think! His brain was so fuzzy feeling. He snorted a bit. He would need to think of something proper... Ah! He had it! Of course, I would only be able to do so if I had the stars to guide me, and your eyes are as bright and glittering as any star. Oh yea. He was such a draconic Casanova.
This was fun! He had found a friend! Because surely, Shirath was a friend. He looked over to E'kiel and wiggled a bit. Oh mine! I am so glad they came to visit! This is so much fun! He hadn't expected to like any of his siblings. Not after that Cyan and her claws. But he did! Shirath was great fun to be around.
I told you it would be ok. E'kiel grinned. He was quite happy the two were getting along! It would have been awful if they hadn't. But why even bother thinking about it? They were having fun, and E'kiel got to see C'ian again. It was a shame they couldn't room together.
“Yea! I mean, she's getting old enough, I think. So maybe soon there will be even more weyrlings. Can you imagine? We'll be able to help them a lot more! I just can't wait. I'll be able to see another hatching, it just sounds so exciting!” He already loved hatchings. The excitement, the joy, they were just amazing. “We should sit together and watch it. We should be able to fly by then.”

Shirath was amazed at his sibling. He had changed his opinion about everything he had surmised about the other dragons during his hatching. This one was intelligent and even though his hide was not as brightly coloured as some of the other dragons it was still good and mysterious. Each new compliment made Shirath determined to try harder but flattered him to no end. He flapped his wings in a satisfied fashion and tried to act bashful, waving a claw as though to wave off the compliments. He turned his head to the side with a wink at Aldebarath.
My eyes will only shine because you are flying beside me my beautiful brother.
C’ian could think of at least three things wrong with what Shirath was saying but didn’t have the heart to tell him to stop, it was far too hilarious for him. What amused him even more was that Shirath didn’t seem to mind that he could hear every word of what his dragon was saying. He would have paid a great deal of marks to hear what the black was saying back. He smiled at Aldebarath, pleased that Shirath hadn’t managed to scare him away. Hopefully he wouldn’t become too confident and edge closer to try out some of his more… physical moves. C’ian was surprised Shirath hadn’t tried more than compliments just yet.
“Yes, she must be pushing on at about three turns now. It will be interesting to see which dragon will manage to catch her. Another junior Weyrleader will certainly be helpful considering how soon Thread will fall.”
He couldn’t believe that he would actually be fighting Thread himself. There were so many riders that had trained their whole lives to never battle against Thread. Of course, he knew it was not merely a case of fighting. It would be dangerous but he trusted those who would teach him and Shirath how to fly and fight. Once Thread had fallen they would be able to fight it with more knowledge. Hopefully they would then be able to pass this knowledge onto others.

He was doing so well! At least, he thought he was, judging by his brother's reactions. This was quite fun and a bit challenging. He liked it. Looking to the bed, he crooned at Rhapsody. She needed to stop being so lazy! She should sit with him and watch. Yes yes. She should watch him wow his brother!
You are far too kind Shells! He couldn't think of anything to say back. His mind wracked as he looked to E'kiel. Would his know anything to say? No... He was sure E'kiel didn't know what to say either!
Meanwhile, Rhapsody rose her head. She stared at the two giants. They were odd. But they were pretty. Lazily, she stretched much like a cat would after it's nap before waddling to the edge and taking off. She swooped leisurely around the two before settling between Adlebarath's wings. What were these two giants doing now?
E'kiel grinned at the dragons. Oh how hilarious they were. At least, Aldebarath was. He was trying so hard to be suave. He could feel the slight confusion and worry that welled up every bow and then. The black was doing better though! He hadn't expected him to get on with Shirath as well as he did. He had misjudged the subking. For that, he was sorry.
“Yea! She's got to be around that. I've only seen her in passing but she's huge! Well, all the queens are pretty big. But she looks full grown. I don't know many brozens and irons though.” He said with a bit of a sigh. He hadn't met any of them yet. “But it will be exciting none the less. Another Weyrleader would be nice.” The idea of Thread made his stomach knot. He didn't like the thought, nor the idea. It felt like stage fright, and he did not like it.

Yes! He had won this time! Outcharmed the charmer. Apparently, Shirath had not realised it was he who had begun the charm off in the first place. Holding his head higher he crept forwards a few more paces.
Shirath, buddy, I don’t think you should be trying too hard. Aldebarath isn’t the right type for you. HOW DARE YOU! ALDEBARATH IS AS MARVELLIOUS AS ANY GOLD! That’s not what I meant. But Shirath would hear none of it. HIS HIDE MATTERS NOT!! How very dare you sir. Shirath… You won’t be able to chase him in the skies is all I meant. Why not? I am as fast as any other dragon and will surely manage to catch any I so choose to catch. Alright then! Have fun but just remember not to worry him too much with your insanity. I am not insane! You sure are. You chose me for Faranth’s sake! What does that say? It says that I have taste. All of that shall also be applied to the most beautiful dragons in the whole of Pern! Aldebarath is one of the lucky few Mine!
C’ian shook his head with a wry smile but turned away from the insanity that was Shirath to respond to E’kiel’s comments about Couineth. It would be strange to watch from the stands this time but he would be sure to turn up. He didn’t know any of the new candidates but he hoped that he might know at least one by the time Couineth’s clutch hatched. Even if he knew none of those there he hoped to pay some attention to the hatching. He almost couldn’t wait to be the one watching as opposed to the one freaking out in the middle of the sands.
“It’ll be good to watch the hatching for once and not be worried about whether or not a dragon will choose us though. Plus, there’s the feast afterwards which will be really exciting!”
You think with your stomach like a hatchling Mine. Better to think with my stomach than something else.
Shirath didn’t know what His meant but decided to turn his attention back to the beautiful black before him. He wasn’t sure what C’ianHis had meant about Aldebarath ‘not being his type’ but somehow he thought it wasn’t his initial conclusion. That is quite all right. Is that firelizard yours? That one’s mine. He turned his eyes on Cirrus who was now investigating Rhapsody with interest, chirping at her as though asking what she was doing.

He had been out charmed, it was sad but true. But then again, Aldebarath had to admit, he wasn't the best charmer out there. But still! Shirath had out done him. He couldn't argue with that. Mine! I lost... But I do not mind! Shirath is far better at compliments! Oh, well congratulations on loosing I guess! I'm glad you had fun.
Aldebarath pranced in place happily, his tail wiggling happily. Yes! He did have fun, lots of fun! And he would have more, especially with his new found friend. Rhapsody was not so eager. With his wiggling, he had disturbed her, standing, she dug her nails into his flesh a bit, just enough to hurt. Not enough to do damage. It got his attention though, and Aldebarath calmed down.
“Yea it will. It will be relaxing. Momma Lyr is gonna be there! I think I'll see if I can find her daughter in the stands too. She's really really small. So we should watch over her. She'll have Momma Lyr's Firelizards too. So they will be fun. It will be nice to watch and relax. We won't have to worry half as much this time!” He chuckled a bit. Yea. He was scared at the last hatching. Scared he would be left standing, unwanted by a dragon while everyone else would impress. But no, he had aldebarath. E'kiel gave the black a fond glance. He was so lucky.
Yes, she is mine. Her name is Rhapsody, she likes to think she is in charge. There was a small draconic laugh behind his words. Rhapsody was in charge, Aldebarath bended under her will fairly often. How could he not? She was so small, she needed all the help she could get!

Shirath had all but forgotten about his outburst and the hideous claims His had made against Aldebarath. At least Shirath wasn’t the type of dragon to sulk for too long when there were compliments to be said and flirting to be done! Shirath was very much aware that he had achieved something here today whether it was merely forging a friendship or developing something more. Holding his head higher he turned smugly to look at C’ianHis.
She is most lovely! Such a wonderful hide but not as luminescent as yours dear brother! I wonder, I do not think I saw you on the sands at our hatching for I would have noticed your beauty.
C’ian rubbed his forehead knowing he would eventually have to address the issue of Shirath flirting with everything that moved. At the moment, however, C’ian was far too enamoured with the purple to do anything about stopping him from his antics. Besides, it was funny! If someone asked him he might try harder to rein Shirath in but until that moment he would sit back and laugh at the ensuing chaos. At least until it came back to him…
“Mumma Lyr? I don’t think I’ve met her. She’s a candidate though? I will sit beside you then and cheer for her! I am certain that if she’s your friend then she will impress,” C’ian grin returned, “either way, I’m sure it’ll be fun to watch. We’ll have to bring klah and food for everyone!”
He wasn’t going to another hatching without food if he could help it, even if it meant he had to sit right at the back he was not going to starve there. None of that now, he would be bringing food and anything else he could sneak in to make the time more comfortable.

Aldebarath was starting to think. He had made a friend! A firend! He hadn't expected that. E'kiel was good ta making friends, not Aldebarath. Aldebarath sat back and waited. He waited until they were alone to speak, to move. He didn't much like attention. But... He did not mind Shiraths. No. He liked Shirath's attention. It was nice, and he said so many kind things. Thinks Aldebarath knew had to be true. For Shirath would not lie. The black knew this.
Rhapsody crooned eagerly, climbing up to sit between Aldebarath's head knobs. The big purple lizard amused her. He was bigger than her black. But her black was better. He was hers. She liked her black. He let her sit on him, and he was easy to boss around. Yes. She liked him very much. Happily, she trilled at the purple. He must know how nice her black was. Yes. He must.
She is! Rhapsody is very pretty. I like the color pink she is. He was very happy with his Firelizard friend. She was fun to watch. He was rather protective of her, for she was small and could easily get hurt. Oh, I was in the Infirmary. One of our, uhh, cyan sisters decided to claw my wings... He was happy they were healing though. He hoped they would be better by the time they would fly.
E'kiel chuckled a bit. He found Shirath to be rather amusing. Reclining back a bit, he stared at the stone ceiling of his room. He wondered if Aldebarath would chase. He was unsure on that, really. The black was just so shy and quiet. Maybe with some urging, he would. But E'kiel wasn't going to think of that at the moment.
“Yea! Momma Lyr is the best. She made sure I was healthy, and fixed our shirts. She was one of the older girls on the sands.” He couldn't wait to cheer for her. The older girl was always kind to him, well, she was kind to every one. Which made him hope she Impressed even more. “Yea! We'll have a little party in the stands and cheer for everyone. Won't it be odd to watch the dragonets stumble around, but from a different perspective?”
E'kiel didn't know if he would be able to think of food during the hatching. But maybe it would be different. He wouldn't be on the sands, so maybe he would get hungry. When you stood on the sands, everything went so fast. There was so much adrenaline and fear and worry. Perhaps the Stands would be different.

C’ian was interested in this Lyr person if only because she was clearly a friend of E’kiel. Any friend of E’kiel could no doubt be a friend of his. Plus, E’kiel seemed to have a good judge of character and C’ian certainly trusted his former roommate and still current friend. He hoped she would impress this time around for E’kiel had made no indication that she had impressed and would be in their Weyrling class. What was more, C’ian had made an effort to remember most of the Weyrlings and he couldn’t remember her name… It was rather unfortunate but C’ian had never had a good memory. Hence why he had failed as a Harper.
He sincerely hoped that Lyr, this friend of E’kiel’s, did impress at the next hatching. It would hopefully mean a lot more Weyrlings to fight Thread, which must have been heartening for the Weyr especially after they lost a great many Weyrlings to assassinations only recently. C’ian had not known those whom had passed but he felt the loss in terms of empathy for those who did know the Weyrlings and the Weyr as a whole. He pushed the thoughts from his mind hoping, knowing, things for their Weyrling class would be much better! They would have only Thread to concern them.
“It will be hilarious! If I had been in the stands and watching some of the dragons from our hatching I would have been laughing myself silly. Of course, I just about did that anyway when I was Standing. Took all my concentration to stay focussed and I don’t have a lot of concentration to begin with.”
Shirath’s head followed Rhapsody as she landed on the Black. He wasn’t sure whether he liked the thought of a firelizard sitting on him. The Blue, Cirrus, didn’t seem to do anything else except dart around near the ceiling in an extremely excitable fashion. Looking up at the creature now he was upside down and trying to walk on the ceiling, wings flapping oddly in an attempt to fight gravity. Plummeting a little every now and again he did, at least, seem to be enjoying himself.
Why, what a foolish Cyan. She must have been so jealous of your wonderful wings she sought to make herself better. Egoistic dragons like that are beneath the both of us!
The irony of that statement was not lost on C’ian as he grinned wryly.

E'kiel really couldn't wait. His head was already abuzz with the ideas og the hatching. He needed to meet more candidates. He wanted to meet as many as he could before their eggs hatched. That way he wouldn't be such a stranger anymore. It was odd. He felt social, but when it came time to actually interact with people, he was a mess. E'kiel mulled that idea for a moment before he felt a bit of weight on his shoulder accompanied by sharp claws.
“Hello there Rhap.” There was a cheery note to his voice as he lifted his fingers to stroke the pink flitter's head. He canted his head a bit, 'resting' it atop the pudgy pink firelizard. “It really really will. Can you imagine how we looked? I'm sure I went through like, five different expressions when Aldebarath came up to me! And I stammered and stumbled with just sounds. Not even words! Sounds!” Or, at least, he thinks he did. His memory of the impression was kind of fuzzy, now awash in fog of fondness. “Oh man. I bet the big gold momma would have haaaated us if we laughed! She was not a happy gold that day. You would think she would be, with her babies all impressing and none of them attacking each other enough to drive them between.” Sometimes, dragons confused the young man.
Aldebarath mentally frowned a bit when Rhapsody left. He hadn't even felt her at first. She was being so flighty today. It was odd. The pink usually stuck with him, seeing her favor E'kiel sometimes bothered him. Was he no longer comfy enough? Had he done something wrong? He hoped not!
To soothe his mind he looked to Shirath's firelizard. The blue was decidedly odd. A peculiar little fellow. His eyes whirled with mirth as he gazed at the firelizard trying to walk on the ceiling like some kind of bug. He settled himself on the ground, curling up a bit as he listened to Shirath. It seems she just didn't like me. I, uh, guess she doesn't like me much. But that isn't too bad. I don't think I want to know her anyways! He was suddenly aware that he said that a bit more viciously than he had intended. Lowering his head a bit he sighed, a tad bit ashamed of himself. I mean, I guess she is lovely to, um, other dragons... But I don't like her. I have you as a friend. That is better than... 20 of her!

C’ian grinned as E’kiel said that Callistath probably would have been displeased with them if they had laughed. Well sure, perhaps she would have been but laughter was the best was to heal anything! If he had been laughing then eventually Callistath would have had no choice but to laugh too. Such was the logic of the childish mind that was C’ian. Probably he would be laughing himself silly at the next hatching from the stands if they weren’t careful. Hopefully there would be a whole hoard of purples to keep him entertained.
“Callistath would probably have eaten us. Or maybe even that crazy green would have. I think Ercuth was her name.” Shirath had, at least, told him that one of the more aggressive greens on the sands was called Ercuth. C’ian could hardly remember much of what had happened but he did remember that there were at least two greens who seemed less than cheerful and yet another Cyan.
C’ian jumped to his feet suddenly and with energy. He grinned at E’kiel and bounced on the balls of his feet with excitement. “I was practically jumping for joy when Shirath approached me. We should go for a walk too! Maybe to the kitchens, I’m starving!”
As though to confirm this fact, C’ian’s stomach had been rumbling through the whole conversation.
What a kind compliment! Why, Shirath could never have felt so wanted by another dragon unless he had impressed them. C’ianHis was right, this dragon was almost perfect for him! Well, Shirath would probably think this until he found another dragon with whom he could flirt… Either way, he certainly liked Aldebarath quite a lot! Perhaps she is lovely to other dragons but with her supidity on the sands she will never get to know the best of her siblings. You. Thank you kindly, I am so fortunate to have you as a friend too.
Oh yeah, he was awesome.
