Agnith and Delilah started their day as usual, with Agnith rocking in her string bed until she flopped onto the floor, and then bounding over to prod her blonde rider awake. It was quite fortunate her always-loud mindvoice was, well, a mindvoice, because it meant the other residents of the room had a chance of sleeping through that soft thump.
Get up, get up! We're missing it! We're going to MISS it![/i]
Delilah yawned and went to open the door for Agnith, and for her part, went about dressing and brushing her teeth in her own time, always mentally in contact in case anything else were to happen.
Agnith, meanwhile, raced down the corridor and burst out into the early winter morning, eyes turned up to the sky. This was one of the best parts of her day, watching dawn happen way up over the clifftops. Hues of pink and lavender made her croon, pleased that today wasn't overcast. Slowly those pretty colors would fade into a gentle blue; they'd be long gone to their chores by the time Rukbat finally peeked up over the Bowl.
Settling down on her haunches, she lashed her tail, wiggling with happiness. Naturally the purple in the sky made her think of one of her fellow weyrlings, and heedless of how early it was, she called out. Shirath! Ohhhh Shirath! The sky looks just like your stripes![/i]

Ooh that silly pink simply would not let him get his beauty sleep. Shirath rolled over and cracked an eye open at the voice in his head. Well, she certainly seemed to know beauty when she saw it at least. Perhaps he could forgive her this time round. He poked his nose over to His and looked at the sleeping Rider for a moment before finally reaching out and prodding him a couple of times. He knew His hated it but he rather wanted to go and find the pink so she could marvel at his beauty even more. Why, what a kind thing to say beautiful Pink. I shall be but a moment and join you in marvelling at the beauty of Pern.
He prodded C’ian once more with his nose and then pushed his head closer to the sleeping Weyrling to watch as C’ian finally opened his eyes.
“SHARDING SHELLS SHIRATH DON’T SIT THERE WATCHING PEOPLE WHILE THEY SLEEP YOU CRAZY LIZARD!!” But Miiiiiiiineee!!! Pink Agnith wishes to speak with meeeee. Oh you are so meaaaann sometimes.
C’ian rubbed his face grumpily having never been one to enjoy being woken by a dragon’s face staring at him. He looked over at the gargantuan Purple and then smiled, getting groggily to his feet to hug the dragon’s muzzle. “I’m sorry, you just frightened me. I mean, you wouldn’t like to see my ugly mug waking you up, would you?” Are you calling me ugly!? Oh Mine…
Shirath hung his head sadly as C’ian’s face dropped in something of an annoyed manner. “Crazy. No, I’m saying I’m ugly. You’re the most beautiful thing on Pern and I love you. Ugh, nevermind let’s go find this Pink of yours.” Do you really love me? Course I do!
And the two of them made their way outside, C’ian still in his oldest clothes, which contained more than a few tears. He honestly looked as though he had lost a fight with a bramble bush… They walked out into the Bowl and Shirath immediately assumed his most flirty walk ever as he approached the Pink. Why, you are right! It is almost as beautiful as myself! Of course, your beauty is not surpassed by the sky either.

Flirting was a bit confusing for Agnith, honestly! She was much too young to understand what it meant for humans, and of course it was far different for dragons. Nobody complimented her like Shirath, though, and she really loved that about him. He was just so sweet! And they could appreciate the world and other dragons together all day long, although he tended to appreciate other dragons in a slightly different way than she did.
Maybe more than slightly.
Agnith happily watched the sky until they arrived, at which time she bounded to her feet to go twine around the purple. You made it! And you brought Yours![/i] she cheered. Don't worry, C'ian, my Delilah will be here soon to talk to you![/i] That said, she focused her full, brilliant attention on Shirath. Nothing could be as beautiful as you are! Even me,[/i] she chirped. Of course, Agnith radiated enthusiastic charm; but she always did, she wasn't even trying. You're really nice to me![/i]
Delilah wandered out of the barracks then, stifling a yawn. "Good morning, C'ian," she said; she was more or less prepared now to face the day, hair brushed and everything, but she really wished she wasn't. At least Agnith usually let her get to bed at a decent hour, even if she was forced to wake early. "I'm sorry if Agnith woke you; she likes the sunrise."

True, true all true. Shirath sure was one of the most amazing dragons on Pern if not the most amazing. Agnith was as flattering as his brother Aldebarath but none of them could match his wits. He was absolutely the most amazing thing to have graced the hatching sands! All knew it and would want him for his beauty. When Agnith curled around him, Shirath crooned happily and returned it with a flirty head rub against her neck settling down.
And none are as cheerful as you my dear Agnith. For your happiness could light up the very skies and put Rukbat to shame.
Oh yes, he was amazing and no doubt the pink would loooooooove him. Everyone would love him eventually. He was just that awesome. “Thanks Agnith. I must say, you are looking very lovely today,” he bowed his head to the pink, a broad grin on his face.
Nothing like the sound of a dragon to wake you up in the morning. Still, he rubbed his face again as Delilah approached and smiled at her. “Wasn’t her who woke me, don’t worry, it was a purple dragon staring at me what did.” He clapped his hands together, swinging his arms back and forth. Now that he was awake he wanted to run! Do something! Have fun! Perhaps Delilah would like to join in with some of his make believe games… Maybe she could clap a beat with him!
“Well! Shall we go for a stroll and search for the rare lizolope!? Half firelizard but with herdbeast horns and hooves!” For he had been searching for the elusive creature for many turns. He was an amazing herder and wished to find and document the life of the rare beast!

Agnith was at the larger end of the scale for pinks, but even so, Shirath dwarfed her; in no time at all, her head would only just reach his chest. That just meant there was more of him to love! She crooned back, nuzzling up against him. What a pleasant morning, with such amazing company to share it with! Do you think so? It would be really, uh, really nice to light things up, in the sky! I bet that's a talent not many people have![/i]
Ah, so literal-minded, especially in the mornings. Delilah smiled back at C'ian, and gave a light chuckle at that. "Perhaps in that respect, I should be grateful my dragon is loud instead of sneaky," she said. "I can't say I've ever woken up to find anything staring at me. That's a little creepy." Creepy, but endearing, especially because it was Shirath who had done it. Being stared at by, say, Ercuth, would be just a touch more...dangerous.
She hadn't spent that much time with C'ian, and her eyebrows shot up at that. "Lizolope?" she asked, sure he was joking. But he sounded...rather serious about it. And Agnith's head immediately whipped around.
Me! Me! Pick me to go on the stroll! I've never seen one of, uh, those![/i]
Well, yeah, because they didn't exist, but Delilah's protest died unspoken. "Maybe we can have a look on the way to breakfast," she suggested, although she was hardly going to be late to chores for this.

Shirath inclined his head towards the pink in what he thought was a flirty, gentlemanly manner. Well, she seemed a little confused but nothing he couldn’t work with. He could figure something out if he really tried, no question about it. Well, you already do light up the sky! When you and I take to the skies to fight Thread it shall say; ‘I cannot marr such beautiful creatures’ and leave before it even has the chance to fall.
Shirath wasn’t precisely loud… He was just overly affectionate. Well, that was the mildest way of putting it. The purple seemed to have no clue as to how he should actually act around others taking flirting as a means to every end. It was a wonder the purple hadn’t taken to flirting with firelizards. C’ian was sure he would try if he was really inclined that way. Still! He was certainly going to be useful when they finally found their target!
Delilah’s plan was simple but brilliant! Of course they should have breakfast first! For if they could raid the kitchens they might just be able to find the Lizolope’s favourite food. Benden Baklava. For the creature had stolen the treats many a time from poor Herders sitting, guarding their flocks. Well, this time they would simply have to lure their target out from its hiding place. “Why yes, what an excellent idea Delilah. They do so love treats! Come Shirath, you know best where these hide!” … I do?
C’ian turned on his purple who was sulking a little at the attention lost from Agnith, head drooped ever so slightly as she seemed more interested in the Lizolope than the purple. And why shouldn’t she!? A Lizolope was a truly amazing thing!
“Why yes, they are amazing creatures and elusive at best. I have seen it only once in my life and that was whilst guarding the ovines! It charged straight past us with a challenging bugle but when we searched it had disappeared.”
The enthusiasm in his tone was evidence of the story told. More importantly, the very way he spoke indicated it was a story of some kind. Sometimes he thought he should have been a Harper instead of a Herder. Yes, I shall assist in finding it. There was some resignation in the purple’s tone but he brightened visibly when he realised that if he found it Agnith would probably love him forever!

Agnith cooed a bit at his pretty words, even though she had some sense even now that that was impossible. Delilah and the Weyrlingmaster had told her all about Thread and how they had to flame it from the sky, and she belatedly realized that was probably what Shirath meant about lighting up the sky. Ooh, she had been silly! So with sweet enthusiasm and no shame whatsoever on realizing she'd made a mistake, she quickly said, And if it does, uh, fall on us, then I'll flame it the farthest and best of anybody![/i]
Half firelizard, but with horns and hooves. Of course it wasn't real, and Delilah had no idea what to make of the fact that C'ian seemed so serious about the story. Then again, maybe he was like Ardith - so imaginative that he got lost in the tales he told. He must know it hadn't really happened.
It was much easier to go along with it when she took it in the spirit of merely blowing off some steam before getting on with another day jam-packed with work and lessons, and she nodded to that. "Disappeared, really?" she asked, going along with it for now. "Did it fly away, do you think? Perhaps if it skimmed low to the ground you wouldn't have seen it go, but it would leave no tracks." Moving off in the direction of the kitchen, she gave Agnith a pat, and the pink fell in behind her, trilling in excitement. She could sense that Delilah thought it wasn't real, but that was no reason not to have fun!
Yeah! We're gonna scare the lizolope out of hiding![/i] she cheered, leaning over to nudge Shirath in a friendly way.

Pleased that she seemed sufficiently enamoured with him, Shirath decided he could partake in the strange game His had started up. Well, anything to keep Agnith’s attention focussed on himself, of course. Turning, he decided he might as well follow His in this expedition. Perhaps if he managed to find the lizolope Agnith would want him even more. It was strange that C’ian’s enthusiasm was flowing through their bond strong enough to make the normally one track minded purple consider a lizolope to be real. Why, yes indeed beautiful Agnith.
So wrapped up was he in his new game C’ian barely even realised that he had created a whole new persona for himself. Now he was a herder and an amazing one at that. He only wished he had remembered something to sketch the lizolope onto… “Perhaps that is a possibility. I believe they do have wings but are incapable of going Between so most certainly, dear Delilah, you may be correct. They do tend to enjoy the scent of baklava but, of course, are inherently curious beings. Dragons can tempt them out of hiding for but a moment before they dart into their hiding places once more.”
Oh yes. I thought I had tempted one out of hiding once but by the time I tried to take a closer look it had disappeared once more. He felt a little silly for saying it but Agnith’s and His’ enthusiasm for the hunt coupled with his own desire to look awesome for the pink meant he was far more inclined to take this adventure seriously.
He softly nudged Agnith with a flirty croon. She had merely made him more certain of her love for him. Yes, that’s right, she’d have to be careful not to be burned by his hotness. Hawhawhaw.

Oh, Shirath definitely looked awesome to Agnith. Mind, she thought basically everyone was awesome, human and dragon alike, but for now, just as he wanted, all her attention and adoration was focused on him. She nudged back with an excited trill. How did you tempt it?[/i] she asked him. C'ian, how do we tempt them out? Shirath, tell me about it! Are you sure it was a lizolope? I bet nothing else looks like one of those, though.[/i]
Delilah started to say something mentally, and then gave up. Agnith loved stories and games, and it was just a game; if she was silly enough to start to believe it despite Delilah's own rock-solid certainty, Delilah would just set her straight later on when it wouldn't ruin playtime. Not to mention breakfasttime. It definitely seemed as if she wouldn't get to sit down for the meal, but she supposed she'd live. "Can't go between," she mused. "So they don't Impress like firelizards do, ever?" These creatures just got stranger and stranger. "Perhaps we can find something even more curious than a dragon for them to be interested in." Admittedly, she had no idea what, but she was curious herself about what he'd manage to come up with.
Agnith nudged Shirath again. You must be a really brave hunter! Not that we're hunting so much as looking. I suppose they aren't very good to eat?[/i]

Shirath really loved Agnith now. Well, as much as a purple such as himself was able to devote himself to just one dragon. He simply wanted to be loved by everyone. And absolutely everyone in the whole world should want him simply by looking at him. In all honesty although he loved giving compliments to all those he knew he sometimes felt they should be entirely unnecessary.
Why I tempted it with my… Ah… Wings. Yes. The sound of our wings beating make them think one of their own is nearby. There are very few lizolopes on Pern and umm… When they hear wings beating they come looking.
Yes, that would do for now. He wasn’t entirely sure what else he could say for he was new to the whole imagination thing. C’ianHis was a little better at it all considering he seemed to live in his own little world of imagination. Sharing his Rider’s mind was certainly very interesting. Sometimes he even seemed to create his whole new world. Odd indeed.
“Yes. Although they do not go Between they are deadly fast. They barely even need to Between to escape the sight of Herders. Shirath is quite right also, they are tempted by the sound of wingbeats. Firelizards tend to see them more often as they are more closely related.”
He was quite knowledgeable about the lizolope having tracked it almost his whole life. Just as his parents had done before him. It was something that was passed on across the generations. Shirath was proving more useful than anything he had ever tried before.
