It was a rather nice day really and Fel had decided to take to the lake. Dhanuth padded lightly behind her, carefully stepping away from the mud. Fel did much the same but didn’t seem to mind too much if she got a little mud on her. The strangest thing about Dhanuth was that he didn’t seem to speak too much. She usually had to guess everything based upon his emotions. She skipped along the banks with Dhanuth trotting behind. I feel it.
Fel turned and stared at Dhanuth. He had stopped and was staring up at her. He cocked his head to the side and then looked at her leg. Fel felt herself becoming a little uncomfortable. He’d not said anything to her until now. She turned away from him for a moment but there was no hiding from something that was wholly and completely integrated into her mind. Dhanuth stepped forward again. I had been wondering. But you are strong FelMine. In spite of everything. I would not have chosen you otherwise.
Fel smiled and walked forwards to hug the small Dragon. He would never be as big as the Dragon Xiro had impressed but, well, Dhanuth was the strongest, toughest dragon on those sands. And he would never abandon her. He loved her. She took a seat on a rock and crossed her legs, She opened the bag with food and tossed some meat to Dhanuth, She’d wanted to eat by the lake today and here was the best chance.
She pulled out her own food and sat there happily eating it. She was alone… But she was never alone, not anymore. She smiled at Dhanuth as he carefully ate the food she had given him. Boy was she pleased he was being careful. She didn’t want him to choke or something!
A deep hiss from him made her jump and look to her side. It was a tiny Green Dragon! A Flitt! Dhanuth calmed but his eyes whirled dangerously, keeping a vigilant watch over the Flitt. Aw! Dhanuth! She’s so cute. The Green opened her mouth and looked at Fel expectantly. She must have wanted food! Well, it couldn’t hurt. She tossed a tiny bit of meat to the Flitt. Another one crawled over the rock, a Pink. Fel frowned a little and tossed the two of them some meat.
Dhanuth wasn’t too impressed that there were two creatures distracting His… But they didn’t seem to be doing her any harm. A third one crawled over to him and looked at him. Fel smiled at the pair and dropped some more meat next to the Flitt. Aren’t they cute Dhanuth!? I would be lying if I said yes Mine… Fel pouted for a moment but smiled at the Black happily.
The Flitts seemed to have eaten enough but they weren’t going anywhere… Fel frowned at the three of them as they crawled into her lap and settled down. Dhanuth… What are they doing. You impressed them. I thought you knew that. No! I thought they were just wild Flitts! They’re newly hatched… They’re yours. Can’t you feel their emotions? Now that she thought about it… She could… Uh oh… She finished eating and got to her feet, the Flitts jumped up also and climbed onto her shoulder, with the largest one, the grayish Pink trying to climb onto her head. Dhanuth just watched with interest.

Between her own duties and how busy the new weyrlings were, Atenna had not yet managed to find the time to personally congratulate her little gang of Candidates-no-longer, but they hadn't been far from her mind since the hatching. What were the personalities of those three dragons, all different colors but all amazing? How were they adjusting to weyrlinghood? How wonderful was Impression, truly?
Therefore, as she was prodding Verity along on a walk, she lit up when she spotted Fel and her black dragonet by the lake. Here was the perfect opportunity! Verity balked when they got closer, leashed only because she would refuse to go anywhere otherwise, and Atenna bent to pick her up. "It's okay," she murmured, squinting. Firelizards climbing on Fel...that was odd. She'd thought the girl didn't have any pets, and flits usually didn't behave that way to anyone but theirs.
Waving an arm, she called, "Hello!" to her young friend, and soon enough was right alongside her. Now that she saw them up close, the flits were only the size of new hatchlings, although how new would be a bit of a surprise. "New additions to your little family, I see? I'm so pleased to see you! It was a wonderful hatching." She beamed and bowed a bit to Dhanuth. "You made an excellent choice with this one. I'm Atenna."

Fel looked up and smiled with extreme excitement when she spotted Atenna and Verity. But the Flitts had taken to each attempting to find a place on her shoulder. The Green had taken to simply crawling all over her in extreme excitement while the vibrant Pink now stood on her head, stretching out her wings to show off her colours. Her wings and neck stretched imperiously as she surveyed her surroundings. The Greyish Pink had taken to slashing her tail about glaring at everything, flicking Fel’s head with her tail every now and then. “Oh! Hi Atenna! I’m so happy to see you! I saw you in the Stands at the hatching! This is Dhanuth. Ah!” She fell backwards a little as the large pink crawled over onto her chest and leapt down to land in her lap. She prowled around a little while Dhanuth hissed at the Pink in annoyance. She seemed to settle down a little and merely took to stalking forwards and back, keeping an eye on Dhanuth.
With that sorted out Dhanuth could finally respond to the Friend of His. Atenna he thought was her name. He dipped his head respectively to the woman. Any friend of Fel’s was a friend of his. After he was pleased with his observations of the woman he had deemed her rather decent and clearly someone with whom he would happily speak. Thank you. I am pleased with my choice also. Do not worry, I will make sure she stays safe. We will be strong together. He replied.
Fel, finally in control over the Flitts looked at Atenna and brushed her hair from her eyes. She imagined she looked a little silly with the Pink sitting on her head. “Well, actually… They just turned up and they looked hungry so I fed them. I didn’t realise they were going to impress to me if I did that.” She answered worriedly.
Canines were so much simpler to understand! They didn’t wind up impressing to people when they weren’t expecting it anyway. She didn’t know whether she could look after three hatchling Flitts and one tiny Dragon… But then, she was Fel and she could do anything! She would do anything! Because she was amazing! With that fact established, Fel calmed herself. The Pink Flitt on her head seemed to have settled down to sleep. Fel could feel her curled up on her head.

Atenna snorted as the little fair crawled all over their new owner, and gave Verity a pet. As new hatchlings they were still smaller than she was, yet she clearly feared their energy - and Dhanuth's bulk, even though a dragon would never harm her. "You're okay," she murmured to her pup. "You saw me, huh? I was watching you the whole time, or nearly so. It certainly did take you long enough to hatch, Dhanuth." The suspense had nearly killed her, but she was beaming. It had been so worth it to watch the girl find her lifemate.
Dragons didn't bespeak Atenna often, and it was a strange sensation, but interesting nevertheless. Her eyes lit up, and she grinned at that. "Good. She's a handful, and she needs a protector," she confided, though of course Fel could hear every word. "Just Impressed, huh? Must've been a small clutch somebody laid around here. At least they didn't go wild. Do you have enough food for them? Want me to take a look?" Firelizards were not her specialty, but the beasthealer in her itched to look over the newborns - no matter how obviously whole and happy they were - for wounds or defects. Just to be sure. "That's what they do all right, it's not like Impressing a dragon."
Of course she could. Flits didn't ask for much besides regular feeding, so far as Atenna knew. And while dragons were enormous and required a lot of oiling and such, they also took care of themselves to a certain point. Atenna snorted at the sight of the firelizard asleep on the girl's head. "A lot of changes for you, clearly. But you seem to be handling it well. I knew you would."

“Really! Well, I was so happy to see you there. Oh! It was so exciting. But I didn’t lose hope, not once. One of the Greens walked past me and stood in front of me but then left. That was a little silly. But I’m glad she didn’t impress to me because Dhanuth is much better.” Fel explained seriously. She was pleased she hadn’t impressed to that Green. She had been mean. Perhaps not intentionally but she wasn’t nice to do that to her. The Cyan after that had told her it was all right. From that Cyan she had known that Hers was still coming. It had made her so pleased.
Dhanuth snorted a little at her comment about him taking his time. He let out a dragon chuckle and watched the woman again. Yes. Well I had to wait for the right moment. He told Fel seriously. He wasn’t going to impress with those crazy Pinks running about like that. That one Pink… The beautiful one… She had left him behind to fend for himself but he had found something much better than any Pink. He’d found HisFel. Here she was, much stronger than that Pink. She was small still but he could see strength in her mind and heart, no matter the weaknesses on the surface. He inclined his head in agreement to her statement about Fel needing a protector. Yes, she needed someone to make her calm down. Definitely calm down.
She smiled at the statements about the Flitts. “Well, I can sort of feel their emotions… But they’re really dull. I would be so thankful if you could take a look at them…” She answered with a worried expression. She grabbed the Green in mid crawl to hold her out before her. She chattered away happily as Fel examined her and then held her out to Atenna. She didn’t want any of them to be injured in any way. If Atenna could check them over everything would hopefully be fine.
The large Greyish Flitt had started chattering in a strange, aggressive manner and had jumped from the rock to run around in circles on the ground. Dhanuth was eying her in a suspicious manner, as though trying to ensure it did not attack Fel at all. He would have none of that on his watch. These things were as much impressed to him as they were His. He would see them behave or they would have to face him. They would not ever be silly on his watch.

"We noticed that," Atenna said with a roll of her eyes. "I thought for sure that was yours, but I'm very glad you ended up with Dhanuth." Amusing, that two of her three Candidates had been among the very last batch to Impress; that would be different next time, only because she was going to collect all the Candidates and win the bet with Tedaon and Tasa.
Atenna considered that. Something wrong with the firelizards, or something else? "It could be because now you know what Impressing a dragon is like," she suggested. "Obviously you won't feel them as strongly or sharply as Dhanuth." It was hard to make a comparison about something so personal and private, though; she didn't know what it felt like to have a flit, and even if she found a rider who'd had firelizards prior to Impression, how could they convey the depth of those feelings?
Setting Verity down, Atenna took the little green and ran her fingers over her hide. She felt perfectly normal, and she wasn't lethargic or anything. "What are you going to name them?" she asked, half-watching the grey-pink's antics with amusement. "That one's certainly a strange color, I don't think I've ever seen a pink quite like that before."

I would have hatched sooner if I’d known how popular FelMine was with my siblings. Dhanuth spoke quietly to Fel, following the movements of the Grey-Pink Flitt.
Fel watched anxiously as Atenna took the Green Flitt. She wriggled a little but it seemed more out of happiness than anything else. Tail waggling back and forth excitedly, the Flitt chirped happily at the Beasthealer. When she ran a hand over the hide the Green’s leg began twitching energetically and she trumpeted happily. Well, Fel was feeling a little more confident about that Flitt… The Grey-Pink, on the other hand, seemed to be ill or something. Maybe she was insane. She was now making strange noises, lying on her side, feet moving around in a circle. That is… Interesting. Dhanuth observed mildly.
The Black did not move, however, and dropped his head to the ground, watching the Pink critically, wondering whether he should do anything. He did not move, observing all that was happening around him intending to watch before making any movements. Quiet, observe and watch. Maybe it would all be fine. He looked at the small canine that had been set down. So very small… If he were any larger he would probably never even notice the creature. Although she was no smaller than the Firelizards…
Fel was distracted from the antics of the larger Flitt by the question from Atenna. She looked at the Green for a moment and inclined her head slightly. “Well, I don’t know… She looks kind of pretty, like a plant. Maybe something to do with a forest or something. Plants perhaps.” She pulled the next Flitt from her head, waking her. She hissed in annoyance but, upon being placed on the rock, curled up and just about went back to sleep again.
She would also need a pretty name, Fel thought, but the large Pink would need something fitting her size. Mega something! She was even a tiny bit larger than the Green. Probably because the Green actually seemed a little small for her colour anyway.

Verity backed away from Dhanuth as far as the leash would let her, and strained slightly at it. The green was sweet; Atenna grinned, and soon pronounced, "She's well. Here you go." With that one handed back to Fel, she too glanced down at the greyish-pink. Pretty or not - maybe like coral, Atenna thought, which was kind of a plant of the sea - she did look sickly, and she acted odd. Pinks weren't usually aggressive or hostile, but she rather wished she had gloves.
Oh, well. To help Fel out, she would suffer a few nips if it went that far. Crouching down, she gently laid a hand on the greyish-pink's side, testing her temperature against that of her sister. The other pink was less worrisome, though her exhaustion could be a bad sign, if the eggs were from the same clutch and something was affecting them both. Yet the green was normal as could be...
"Mushrooms," she said aloud. "I think I've seen mushrooms about this color. Or I was thinking of coral, too. Verity, stop pulling." The admonition was gentle, but admittedly she was concerned about her pup - if this flit was mad, Verity might be in the crossfire, which would only make her more scared of everything.

Fel was relieved when Atenna pronounced the Green healthy. That sure was a relief. She wasn’t sure about the pink on her head or the crazy pink. The pink on her head seemed to be sleeping already. Maybe she was just tired from eating a whole heap of food… Fel wasn’t entirely sure. She watched as the Green began wandering about, sniffing the ground almost as though she were trying to explore. Fel then turned her gaze back to the Grey firelizard as Atenna put her hand on her. Suddenly the flitt stopped all movement and lay perfectly still, as though playing dead. Fel frowned at it but she was still breathing and things… Maybe she was just playing before and now she was tired. Yes, that made sense.
I like that name. Fel jumped suddenly at the quiet injection from her dragon, waking the firelizard on her head. The pink squawked indignantly and Fel suddenly had an image in her head of a firelizard waking and sparkling. She clambered down off Fel’s head and onto the rock, spreading her wings. “Atenna… I just saw a picture of her waking up and being sparkly!” Fel told Atenna in shock, “Can they send pictures? Because I think she was trying to tell me that she was getting beauty sleep or something.”
Fel giggled at the thought of a firelizard getting her beauty sleep and looked at Dhanuth. He was watching the green firelizard get closer and closer to him before she finally stepped onto his nose and climbed up over his face. He snorted in annoyance but didn’t move, turning his eyes to watch the canine again. He didn’t know why she was scared of him. He was barely big at the moment! Soon he would be, but not just yet. He flexed his muscles and then moved his head to regard Atenna. He liked her. She was a good friend for His.
When it was clear to the Black Dragonet that Fel had no clue what to name the firelizards Dhanuth decided to speak up. Coral. It is good for that one. Dhanuth announced to the two females, inclining his head towards the light pink who was now wandering around showing off. It is sufficient. Fel smiled at Dhanuth and then looked at Atenna. “One down two to go!” She exclaimed.

As far as Atenna knew, it was quite common for dragonets, wherets, and new-hatched flits to fall asleep after their first meal, sated and content. That didn't especially worry her at the moment. Behaving like this, though...that was just strange. Something might be wrong in the little one's mind, something she couldn't fix, and that frightened her. The idea of being unable to help always set off her insecurities, and the idea of turning to Fel and admitting that she was forever bound to a mad firelizard...the girl would never trust her healing hand again.
She kept one eye on the rest of the lot as she examined the greyish-pink, hoping against hope that she was just playing in an odd little way. "Yes, that's how they communicate, in images and emotions rather than words," she said. "That's a clever way of putting it - you have a smart one, there." The antithesis of the little weirdo playing dead under Atenna's hands, that was for sure. "She is beautiful, though. What did you feed them, and how much? They may still be hungry."
Atenna liked Dhanuth too, so far, and she beamed at the next communication from him. "I'm honored you chose my idea," she said, though it hadn't really been a name suggestion. "Well, if that one's named after something she resembles, the green looks like a leaf or algae or something. This one's rather harder."

Fel was pleased that at least one of the firelizards was smart. The other ones she wasn’t so sure about. The green seemed to be ok but the other pink was just all around strange! She had no clue what was wrong with the strange thing. Still, she was cute… In a strange way. Maybe she was just playing with them both in her own way. Perhaps she was just a little angry. Fel noticed that the firelizard looked over at her every few seconds and then went back to playing dead. Silly thing… Now that she thought about it, the flitt probably was playing she just hadn’t figured out how to achieve that.
Dhanuth nodded to Atenna once more with a small, dragon smile. The pink, Coral, had now wandered over to join the green in climbing on Dhanuth. The black dragonet did not move as they wandered all over his back. It kind of felt nice on his muscles, like he was being scratched or petted. Either way, he did nothing to prevent them in their actions. Coral wasn’t there to explore, rather she curled up once more and went back to sleep having recognised that this creature seemed to move less than Hers. Yes, he was much better to sleep on.
“Maybe… Umm, well, there’s stuff that grows on rocks but I forgot the name.” Moss. “Moss! That’s it!” Fel cried, “Yes, I think her name should definitely be Moss. It’s pretty like she is!” Fel had barely noticed how Dhanuth had offered the word to her as though he was her own thoughts. In fact, she thought the word had come to her from her own mind and not his. They were just one mind. “And the last one… Well, she’s kind of big for her size. Bigger even than Moss.” It was true, the green seemed small for her size but this pink was almost bigger than the green. Perhaps that would change as they grew but at the moment she was also a mega strange, mega strong firelizard. “She’s mega and she’s strong. Megastrong! No… I don’t like that. What about Megatron? Because tron is still a part of strong.” Fel explained happily.
Yes, her reasoning was undeniable! She sure was clever. Atenna sure had been helpful giving her some clues as to what she should name the firelizards. Thank goodness she had run into the herder! “Maybe I should give them more food. Now they have names, it’ll be easier to feed them.”

Whatever the firelizard wanted from Hers, she apparently hadn't figured out how to achieve it yet, because despite her glances, Fel seemed just as clueless about what the sharding thing was doing as Atenna. The Herder continued to examine it, but she was this close to admitting defeat. She had no idea what the grey-pink was doing, if she was ill or mad, or if she just needed more food and had a funny way of showing it. Clearly, Atenna thought, growing more distraught by the moment though she did her best not to become outwardly upset for Fel's sake, she was a terrible Herder and should've worked harder at learning about firelizards. What good was a beasthealer with such an obvious hole in her knowledge?
Dhanuth was a little quicker on the uptake than Atenna, who was about to suggest moss when Fel burst out with it herself. Grinning, she said, "That's a good name, too. Coral and Moss. I still think this one should be Mushroom." Not a very feminine name...but she was just so odd.
Megatron. Odd name, for an odd, odd little flitter. Atenna sort of liked it, and she smiled. "I like it," she said, her voice perhaps slightly strained. Maybe Fel shouldn't be naming the pink, getting attached to her. Perhaps she was about to drop dead because Atenna couldn't save her. Strong as Megatron was, obviously Atenna just wasn't strong enough. "The names help with the feeding? I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Their bellies might be little, but they're very empty."
And maybe more food would rejuvenate Megatron. That would be appreciated.

“Yes, It’ll be easier to feed them because I can talk to them and tell them which one gets what food!” She’d thought that was completely obvious! It was so much easier to talk to them all if they had names. Now that she had gotten over the initial shock of impressing the firelizards she was extremely excited about them. Not as excited as she had been about impressing Dhanuth, of course, but they were all so cute! Not as cute as Dhanuth but fairly close! Definitely close. She took some of the food she had and held it out for Moss as she crept closer, jumping off Dhanuth’s back.
Meanwhile, Megatron seemed to have tired of her strange game and was trying to creep closer to the food as subtly as she could as though trying to still play dead. But she was hungry… This big creature standing there was silly. She didn’t want to be caught! But she wanted food! Strange creatures these people around her. They didn’t seem to know anything! Maybe if she spoke to her sisters they would tell the people what she wanted. The green, now happily eating food, didn’t seem to quite understand her sister. She chirped at Megatron as the pink crept closer, still lying on the ground.
Fel looked over and noticed Megatron. She smiled at the pink and put some food on the ground for her. The pink jumped to her feet, chattering madly and grabbed the food to eat it before darting off to hide behind the rock, eating her food quick as lightning. “Oh! Maybe she was just hungry?” Fel said uncertainly.
Something told her that wasn’t entirely the case but, well, at least it made her feel a little better. Perhaps the firelizard was just really angry about something and didn’t quite know how to contain that anger. Coral was also watching Fel with some interest as though she felt hungry but didn’t quite know what was more important, food or getting her beauty sleep. She may be unable to speak properly. Maybe she speaks another language entirely.

"From what I've seen of firelizards, especially infants, they're likely to fight over it in their hunger," she said with a grin. They had far baser urges than their larger cousins, whers and dragons; from what she'd seen, they mostly focused on eating, and many seemed to have other little obsessions. Gossip and thieving, for example. Hopefully Fel's would not prove as annoying to the Weyr as certain others did, although Megatron definitely had obnoxious potential. If she lived.
Creeping along toward the food was a good sign, and Atenna let her, settling onto her knees for comfort. "Could be," she said, cheering up now that this appeared to be the case. Perhaps once Megatron ate, she would perk up and act like a normal firelizard, or at least like an abnormal one who wasn't in her death throes. "I'm glad to see her that energetic. She's an odd one, I won't lie, but she seems to be healthy, anyway."
Shards, after that pronouncement, the little flit better not drop dead. Atenna would be devastated, though not so much as poor Fel. An angry pink? It was to laugh. Did they even have the capacity to stay angry for that long?

Fel was completely oblivious to the worries Atenna seemed to have over Megatron. The flitt seemed sweet but just unable to quite show what she wanted. She was probably playing but in a strange way. Fel knew heaps of people and creatures that did the same thing. She didn’t seem quite hostile anymore but just… Different. Atenna said the pink was fine and Fel immediately sat up straighter, now that load was off her back. “That’s good then. She’ll probably be the one that protects the other two or something. Maybe she’ll teach them how to play like she can and I’ll be able to understand it better.” She said the second part a little doubtfully but smiled up at Atenna.
Coral had finally decided that food was more important and was now sitting on Dhanuth’s muzzle, mouth open and staring at Fel expectantly. Dhanuth sneezed softly as though trying to make a point. Fel giggled and threw food to the pink. Coral caught it deftly and ate it delicately before climbing back over Dhanuth’s face and onto his head once more. You care for the other creatures of the Weyr? Dhanuth asked Atenna, turning his eyes upon her.
With Fel currently preoccupied with her new pets he figured he might just get a better conversation out of the older woman. More importantly, he wished to distract himself from the tiny dragons crawling upon him, Moss having just climbed up to join her sister. He would have a bath after this for he was certain that they had taken food to eat off of his back.
Megatron was peering curiously around at them all, chattering quietly in her strange way, glancing furtively to the side every now and then as though planning something. After making certain no one was watching her, she darted from her hiding place and out into the open, rolling to hide behind Dhanuth’s bulk and then clambering up his side.
Fel seemed quite pleased to see that the firelizards had taken so kindly to Dhanuth. Or perhaps the other way around… It was great to see that they were becoming friends really quickly! She guessed it had something to do with their bond extending to the firelizards.

Ah, yes, people did exist who were just plain weird, misunderstood by most around them...Atenna had just never heard of a firelizard who was unable to properly communicate with its owner. Coral had done so well with the thought of beauty sleep - and so soon after hatching, too! - and then here was her presumed clutchsister, confusing absolutely everyone.
"A protector is good...and so is them helping her communicate," Atenna said with a smile. Shards, how she hoped Fel had it right! If the poor little thing was mad, rather than strange...
But if anything would know a creature's mind, it was a dragon, right? She sidled over to Dhanuth, ostensibly to examine Coral, but really to speak to him without worrying Fel. Before she had the chance, however, he spoke to her again. It was a thrill, that voice in her mind, and she broke into a smile despite her concerns. "I do," she said. "I'm a beasthealer; I care for anything I can, and I love them all, too. Verity is my - where is Verity?" Glancing around, she tracked the end of the lead behind a rock, where the pup cowered from the firelizards. "She's my only personal pet, though." Lowering her voice, she added, "That one, Megatron...she's all right, isn't she? In the mind? I can't do that kind of healing."
It was adorable to watch the firelizards use Dhanuth as a playground, and Verity eventually peeked out, once Megatron had gone as well. This was unpleasant, and she wanted to go home.

”Yes, I will help her, don’t you worry!” Fel agreed. She was just about running out of her food. Lucky they were rather small creatures or she probably would have wound up empty handed. She was a little hungry too. Maybe she and Atenna could go back to the Weyr and get some food together!
Dhanuth nodded, ignoring the movements of the firelizards on his back. He was interested in how she cared for the creatures without being able to speak to them directly. It must have been difficult to understand what upset them or worried them without being able to speak into their minds. Even the canine seemed to want to tell Hers something but appeared to be unable to achieve it.
Coral chirped happily at the healer as she moved closer to Dhanuth, pleased that she was receiving some attention. Dhanuth also watched Atenna out of the corner of his eye as she neared him and listened to her question. His eyes flicked back to Fel but the young Weyrling seemed far too preoccupied with her new pets. She just seemed to think that Atenna was checking on Coral again.
Dhanuth raised his head a little and turned his eyes of Megatron who promptly screeched and ran to hide somewhere else. He tried his best to send her a message and she did seem to calm for a moment before she sent him an image in return. It was… Odd to say the least. The image she sent him seemed to be skewed and wavy as though she saw some different things. She sent him a clearer message and Dhanuth settled down again. She is different but not insane. Borderline. Dhanuth kept the speech from Fel, knowing that Atenna didn’t appear to want to worry her.
Megatron saw things differently but it didn’t appear to be insanity. I need only calm her. She is not angry but she thinks she is acting in an endearing manner. She believes that this is her being friendly.

Getting food together would be brilliant; with the excitement of the firelizards hatching and Atenna making sure they were healthy, she hadn't even gotten to ask half her questions yet about what Impression was like, how Fel had felt at the hatching, how she was enjoying weyrlinghood and Dhanuth and...well, safe to say they had a lot to catch up on!
Speech was indeed best as a communication tool; even whers didn't have the ability to explain complex thoughts. Bonding to a single creature like Fel bonded to Dhanuth would surely heighten the ability to perceive emotion, and in small part, Atenna envied it; but she'd spent so many years learning to work with animals' body language that she felt entirely capable. Firelizards were just weird, though. Somewhere in the middle - trying to communicate on a human level, not quite succeeding, and she couldn't read lizards too well.
Borderline. Atenna didn't exactly know what that meant, but her eyes strayed back to Megatron. Well, as long as she wasn't insane as in, going to find a way to kill herself or harm others...presumably it would be all right. If everyone was the same, after all, the world would be an awfully boring place! "Thanks," she murmured to Dhanuth. At least the black would keep an eye on the pink for Fel, who didn't need a reason to worry.
Atenna did snort at that, covering her mouth. "Well, now that I know what she's trying for, it is sort of cute," she said cheerfully.

Dhanuth inclined his head respectfully towards the herder and then focussed his gaze on Megatron who seemed to have calmed down now that a larger creature was glaring at her. She slinked her way out of her hiding spot and hissed softly before calming again and trotting her way over to grudgingly join her sisters. Now that he had sorted that business Dhanuth got to his feet and stretched, firelizards clinging to his back as he shook himself. Well, perhaps we should go and get some more food so Atenna may join us?
Fel looked at Dhanuth and smiled. What an excellent idea! Even if they didn’t have time to bring all the food outside again they would at least be able to have some food together. “Yes! Dhanuth says that we should get some more food and then come back out to eat it! Even then, would you like to come with us?”
She was still rather hungry considering that she had just fed most of her food to the firelizards. They seemed to be settling down too now that they were so full. Moss even seemed to have developed something of a belly as she flopped down on Dhanuth’s back. Moss, at least, seemed to want to keep playing but was a little too tired now. Who could blame her? She had just hatched, played around a whole lot and now she was stuffed like a wherry for a Gather. Fel jumped to her feet and petted each of the firelizards fondly before hugging Dhanuth and turning to Atenna.
“Even if you don’t have time we can still walk back together!” She knew how hard her friend worked in the Weyr, how hard they all worked really, so it was sometimes difficult to find time for one another…

"I've got a little time," Atenna said with a grin. "I'd be happy to join you - all of you." There was always a certain amusement to seeing the younger dragonets actually in the dining hall, while they were small enough to fit - and Dhanuth made quite a picture with the brightly-colored firelizards dangling from his dark hide. They were definitely bound to get some odd looks, and Atenna didn't mind that in the least!
Turning to Verity, she gave a light tug on the lead and called, "C'mon, Veri, dinnertime. Are you hungry? It's safe to come out now." But all the cajoling in the world would not entice the small canine to come out into the open with those menaces around, so eventually Atenna grinned and trotted behind the rock to pick her up. "This is supposed to be your exercise, you know. Doesn't work if you won't walk." But Atenna would never drag her along, so if she wouldn't walk, she got carried. Simple as that.
She headed to the other side of Fel, away from the dragonet and flitters for Verity's peace of mind, and grinned at the girl. "I suppose weyrlinghood is busy? And about to get busier, no doubt."

If it was possible for Fel’s smile to become broader it most certainly would have when the herder agreed to join them. She skipped ahead a few paces and then turned to see that Atenna was trying to coax Verity into joining them. Poor Verity didn’t seem too keen on following three firelizards and a dragon but Fel still smiled at the pup sitting in Atenna’s hands. Verity was not as excitable as Lakeeti had been but she was certainly very adorable. Fel looked down at Dhanuth who seemed to have taken the hint that Verity was a little scared of him and had stepped away from the canine. The three firelizards had settled down on his back, Megatron opening her eye every now and again as though ensuring everything was safe.
“Aw, maybe one day Verity will not be worried about Dhanuth and he will be able to take you both for a fly! He’s not that scary Verity”
Fel spoke to the canine cheerfully and looked down at Dhanuth who was walking along beside her with a calm, regal nature. He seemed to disagree with the sentiment that he wasn’t all that scary, however, and shook his head. I may not be scary now, Mine, but one day I will be much stronger. Then I will be as scary as all the dragons in the Weyr.
“Well, he’s not scary at the moment at least. You know, I don’t think he’ll ever be all that scary, he’s too nice.” She whispered loudly to the canine, then to Atenna, “Well, if Verity doesn’t want to come along I’m sure you can!”
Dhanuth didn’t say anything but he knew he would never be all that large. He would certainly not mind giving flights to those friends of His but he was fairly certain he would only be able to carry one at a time as much fun as it would be to carry a whole heap of people and hear Fel’s cheerful chatter with others.
