Everything was amazing! She was amazing! Dhanuth was amazing! And they were going to try out some new things today! Some new chores. Dhanuth walked ahead of her, almost checking whether it was safe for her, muscles tense under his hide. Apparently he was trying to show how strong he was as they made their way into the Lower Caverns. Fel was loathe to leave Dhanuth anywhere by himself… He was just too tiny! So he came everywhere with her, even to the Creche. She would ask him to sit outside, of course, but she wanted him close by. Who knew when a wild Wher might attack!? She had to make certain he was safe.
Dhanuth, on the other hand, thought much the same of His. She was strong but there was still the matter of her leg. He had no doubts but sometimes she seemed smaller than the others. Together, when they were older, they would be the strongest there was! But first they needed to grow to be strong. FelHis would do just that. Here.
Fel stopped at the words and looked down at the small Black Dragon as he sat down. She could hear the children already and wondered whether Kida was there anywhere. Well, she’d been asked to bring some new toys so here they were. She so wanted to hang around and play with the kids but she wasn’t so sure whether having Dhanuth hang around the children was such a good idea. She knew that sometimes the dragons cared for the Weyrbrats but… Well, she didn’t want them climbing on Dhanuth. He was too little! They might crush him! As she entered she noticed Dhanuth curl his head around the corner and watch her intently, surveying the area and, most importantly, the children.
Dhanuth wanted to make certain everything was safe for His. His tail flicked about agitatedly as FelHis spent time talking to the adults. He did not want her spending too much time there. What if the children jumped on her or something? She could fight for herself but he somehow thought fighting with young children was frowned upon. He crept forward until he was half standing in the entrance, eyes swirling with concern.
And she’d started talking to some of the children.
He guessed he’d probably be there for a while...

Driving through town just my boy and me, With a happy meal in his booster seat, Knowing that he couldn't have the toy, Till his nuggets were gone.
Osro had been playing with two dragon toys when Fel arrived. He continued, oblivious to her. While of schooling age and an apt enough student, he was not the most observant of fellows when he found something that interested in him. His attention span was not anything of particularly great length, but when he focused on something, he focused on it completely and utterly. Right then, the object of his attention was smashing the two plush dragons together in some sort of epic battle of friendships. It made perfect sense! All dragons were friends, but friends fought too! He fought with Julien, one of the boys from the lower caverns, all the time, but that didn't mean he didn't love Julien and care about Julien with his whole, whole, whole heart. He cared about Julien a lot. He had a big heart too. He also fought with his sister all the time, but she hardly counted. She was only half his age. She was a little kid and slept all the time. He was a big kid.
However, when Fel began to talk to the children, Osro looked up. He didn't particularly care about Fel, though he did want to say hello to her. He wanted to smile at her. What he cared about Dhanuth. All weyrbrats have a sixth sense for dragons when they're under the age of nine. Once you reach apprenticing age, you have to act cool. Until then, you exploit your dragondar. As the unofficial, and overly kind and most likely terrible, king of the weyrbrats and the son of the weyrleaders, Osro could sense a squishy, lovable dragon at a hundred paces. He let out a squeak at the sight of Dhanuth and got to his feet, abandoning his tous as his face split into a smile of joy and excitement. He trotted right over towards the tiny dragon, red hair flopping up and down on his head as he hopped and ran across the room as if it were an obstacle course to get to Dhanuth. "Hi dragon!"
We got back home and I went to the barn, I bowed my head and I prayed real hard, Said Lord please help me help my stupid self, Then this side of bedtime later that night.

Dhanuth looked at the boy who had approached him with a curious stare. So much for remaining inconspicuous… He inclined his head slightly. It couldn’t hurt to talk to him. He observed the child a short while longer as though trying to judge whether he would prove frivolous and interesting. Well, he seemed rather intelligent. Hello squishy humanling. He replied calmly. He sniffed curiously at the boy for a moment before peering around him at Fel, checking that she wasn’t being attacked by the tiny Humanlings.
Fel was almost being attacked by them but not in the way Dhanuth was worried about. She was being plagued by questions about candidacy and Impression. Not that she minded too much… She loved talking to and being around the younger children. She was, after all, practically a child herself. Only a couple of turns older than some of the eldest children. It was those closest to becoming candidates that seemed to take the most interest in what she had to say. She looked over at Dhanuth and spotted a red haired boy standing near him. Eyes widening in worry she wandered over to the boy.
He is fine FelMine. He will not do me harm. He is a small, humanling. Fel kept a wary eye on the pair and, eventually, flitted over to join them. She couldn’t help but feel worried about Dhanuth. Even if he was the strongest Dragon there was he was still tiny! She needed to look after him.
But there were so many children around her that she wasn’t entirely sure whether wandering over to Dhanuth would prove useful in the slightest. He would probably be crushed amongst the children. That and Fel was worried about pushing over the smallest children. They were almost as small as Dhanuth. Well… Just be nice, okay Dhanuth? I’ll come over soon… I am always nice.

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black, Why you never see bright colors on my back, And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone. Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.
Osro just grinned and grinned and grinned at the bluish-tinged black, hardly bothered by the fact that he didn't talk much. He was getting to the point where he could actually reconcile the fact that blacks didn't tend to talk much with the creature in front of him. Besides that, he wouldn't have minded even if he hadn't know that blacks weren't the chattery sort. He was content to simply LOOK at the little dragon and TALK to the little dragon. When the little dragon actually talked to him, he giggled in his squeaky, childish voice, his body many turns away from making it cracked, and he clapped out his joy. He was practically wiggling with excitement; he'd always been an exuberant, cheerful child. A dragon's voice in his head didn't bother him, but that didn't keep it from being exciting! And apparently, he was squishy! And a human . . . human . . . humanling!
"Hi little black! You look kind of like a firelizard. Except even the Queens are smaller than you. A really big black firelizard. Or a very small dragon. Which is what you are." The child's logic was solid enough, even if not particularly useful and potentially insulting if not taken the right way. He didn't mean to cause offense, but he had little filter on his mouth. When he talked, he talked. Whatever he did, he tended to focus on it solely and pour himself into it for a minute or a candlemark or an afternoon. Osro had noticed the black looking over at the girl talking to the other children, so he glanced over at her too. However, his gaze returned to Dhanuth quickly, as if his sight were a magnet and the black was the north pole. "Is she your rider? Who did you come to visit? Riders visit all the time, but only that one with the purple ever had a little dragon."
I wear the black for those who never read, Or listened to the words that Jesus said, About the road to happiness through love and charity, Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Dhanuth almost smiled in his draconic way upon seeing the child’s excitement. He knew that Fel had something of a similar way of acting. Sometimes he just about jumped in excitement because of hers. As it happened he found the actions of the boy to be rather amusing. He’d seen reactions similar to that amongst his newly impressed siblings. He listened to the ramblings of the boy and cocked his head to the side curiously. Yes, he supposed that he was something of a small dragon. Perhaps even a big firelizard if one were inclined to think as such… I’ll get bigger. He started defensively.
He didn’t mind too much with the boy telling him he was rather small but he had just wanted to make it clear that he was going to be really huge when he was older! Perhaps not as big as his iron brothers but he would be stronger than them definitely. He had chosen the strongest, smartest person on the sands to help him grow bigger; Fel had definitely fit all that and more. He nodded when the boy asked him whether Fel was his rider and looked over at her again.
He wondered who the ‘one with the purple’ was. Perhaps he’d have to find out. He could only assume it meant someone with a purple firelizard but there were definitely plenty of those flying about. Fel had finally managed to disentangle herself from the children and made her way over to join them. “Hello!” She greeted cheerfully, “How are you? Was Dhanuth being nice to you?” She petted Dhanuth lovingly on the head. She wondered who the boy was. Dhanuth rarely bespoke people but when he did it was usually only a little and when he thought it worth his time. Of course I was! “I brought you all more toys!” She told him.

She wore that dress like it was a Saturday, Pretty as a summer rose picked in the morning, And he held her hand like it was a mystery, One he couldn't quite believe.
Osro did not notice Dhanuth's defensiveness about his size. "Yes, you will;" he chirruped in response, perfectly agreeable to the fact that the black was liable to get bigger with time. "So will I!" Just like the young dragon, he was very proud of the fact that one day he would be big and strong, just like his mommy! And his daddy! Strong like mommy, not as sometimes scary as her like daddy. He puffed out his chest as far as possible; then Fel came over and he let out the breath he'd been holding in his little body to first look proud and then just to look silly.
"Hi! I'm very well, thanks and stuff;" Osro said, greeting Fel with his exuberant, bright, sunny, half-toothed smile. He saw weyrlings going around all the time, doing their chores and having lessons, but he never really got to talk to them, so he was super, super, super happy to meet her! "He was being very nice;" he assured the blackweyrling. He like Dhanuth! He was a very talkative black!
Osro didn't care very much about toys right then. Talking to Fel and Dhanuth was much more important than mere toys. He was almost SEVEN. Sometimes there was more important things in his life than toys; he was too old to play ALL THE TIME. "Do you have any pets?" He liked animals. His mother's bronze, Afzal, was annoying sometimes, always following him around and trying to tell him what to do, but he found flitters fascinating when they popped up. "I got to help hand out a clutch of firelizards eggs once!" Once being not that long ago in the grand scheme of things but quite a while ago in his young mind. Sometimes he found it very hard to keep from simply letting anything that he wanted to say from simply bursting out of his mouth. "Where were you born? In a Weyr? Or a hold?"
Just walking with him, They were high up on a hill, Something to say, and daylight to kill, Time slipped away, the way that it will.

Dhanuth nodded; satisfied that he had made his point. He would be extremely strong one day. He was strong currently but soon he would be much bigger than the boy before him. He would be as strong as his iron brothers if not stronger. Certainly, he would show his sisters. He had begun flexing his muscles in an almost subconscious manner. He looked up at Fel and then settled down a little to watch the two children. After all, Fel was still rather young. He liked that they would grow together.
Fel was rather surprised at the young boy’s energy. Then again, that seemed to be what children were like. She smiled at him. “Well, I’m glad he was being nice.” Fel nodded firmly, “Did you!? Did you get a firelizard for yourself?”
She knew that there were wild clutches around. Probably the female fighters had abandoned some of them. Even some of the wild golds seemed to leave their eggs at times. Perhaps it was merely based on the individual firelizards. There might have been some pinks or greens that protected their eggs but she thought it far less likely.
They were many questions. Dhanuth observed mildly, speaking to His.
Fel nodded cheerfully though. She was only too happy to answer them! “And I was a trader. So I wasn’t raised in a hold or a Weyr.” She replied, “But it must be exciting in the Weyr with all these people around you.” [/blockquote]

Just our hands clasped so tight, Waiting for the hint of a spark, If Heaven and Hell decide, That they both are satisfied.
"No, I didn't get one. I already have Afzal. He's a bronze and annoying. He's my mom's flit, but he always hangs out with me;" Osro told Fel, answering her question with a roll of his eyes. He loved Afzal, like he loved everyone in his family. He loved Kalith, mom, dad, Tiroshel, Daidoroth, Afzal, Fiera, and even Oblivion, even if Oblivion didn't love him back, but Afzal was definitely more than a little annoying and clingy on occasion. Osro wasn't quite old enough yet to understand that the creature meant to protect him. He still thought that he was the one who protected the lithe King from all the little wrongs of his little world. However, he did suppose, scrunching up his face a little, that he did want a firelizard and that clutch would have been a good opportunity to get one. In the end, it didn't truly matter. His little life continued and smiled away at Fel.
The boy's eyes widened when Fel mentioned that she was a trader, though his smile only broadened as his jaw slackened. A trader! He'd seen traders before and heard about them, mostly good and occasionally bad, but he'd never actually met one in person! At least as far as he knew. To him, dragonriders were usually just dragonriders. He barely associated his parents with their pasts, though he was aware that he had an uncle that was a bronzerider at Bay and another that was a blackrider. "It is really exciting. Dragons everywhere and everything;" Osro said, but he was less interested in himself and more interested in her. That was partially because he was a kind individual and partially because he was fascinated. "What's it like to be a trader?" He stared up at her, wide eyed. She'd seen the world! He'd only seen Weyrs in his short life.
You and me have seen everything to see, From Bangkok to Calgary, And the soles of your shoes are all worn down, The time for sleep is now.

Fel knew that some firelizards could certainly be a handful. She had overheard there was one owned by a Weyrling that tended to steal things. That would have been a tough firelizard to handle she imagined. Lucky she didn’t have anything like that and Dhanuth didn’t seem likely to turn into a trouble dragon. He was rather quiet and calm. Fel smiled at Osro’s scrunched up face. She wasn’t sure what had done it but imagined it must have had something to do with the firelizards.
“He sounds sweet, watching out for you, making sure you’re safe. Maybe you’ll be able to get another firelizard for yourself sometime.” Seems rather common, firelizards looking after their humans. Dhanuth told her quietly.
She hadn’t ever thought her life all that interesting. It had never crossed her mind that being a trader was something all that glamorous yet the obvious interest from the young boy showed her that perhaps her former life had been somewhat fascinating. She had visited a number of Holds around Pern, not to mention that they had stayed in places most people may never consider homely. It was odd to think that she had never once truly lived in the same place longer than about a sevenday.
“Oh, I travelled around a fair bit but it never seemed all that important. I didn’t really get to meet too many people because I was too young.”
She pursed her lips at that. She had been a part of some small stalls in Holds but she had never been able to go into the Weyr with tithes. She’d always wanted to visit the Weyrs but until she had been searched she had never seen a dragon up close.

Been filling up for days, It's heavy on my mind, Fighting all the time, We'll never find our way.
Listening to Fel, Osro GUESSED that MAYBE it was sweet that Afzal looked out for him and cared about him. He wasn't so sure that he liked this sweetness, though, even if that was what it was. He could take care of himself. He didn't need to be babysat by a firelizard. However, he quickly let go of that deep wondering. He was too little to care about exactly what Afzal was trying to do. He focused on happy things, ever cycling back into a state of brilliant good cheer. "Maybe I will;" he said, beaming at the idea of one day having a firelizard of his very own. He had big dreams for his future. One day, he'd have a firelizard. One day, he'd ride a bronze like his dad or his uncle. Or a black like his granddad and his other uncle. Or a green like his grandma and his aunt. One day, he'd ride a dragon, a beautiful rainbow dragon who was even more rainbowrific than Irith. One day.
Osro nodded sagely along to what Fel said about her past life as a trader. He understood being too young all too well. He smiled up at her. "You aren't too young now. Now you'll get to meet lots of people. A whole Weyr full of people! And once Dhanuth is real big, you'll be able to go out and meet everyone on Pern, and I'll have a dragon too, so I'll be able to come along. It'll be awesome;" he told her, waving his hands in the air to nonsensically illustrate what he was saying. One of the crecheworkers was calling for him, smiling in the insincere way he hated and waving at him as if that would cajole him into joining the others to play. He ignored her. Fel was too cool for him to be obedient, as if he was ever that obedient to anyone. He was easily distracted, too adventurous and too curious for his own good. He wanted to live life. He wanted to see the all of Pern.
But one day you'll fall down, And there won't be anyone, To pick you up again, One day you'll fall down.

The young boy fascinated Fel. He had found a whole nest of firelizards with others and yet had not taken one for himself. Clearly he was a generous soul. Or, perhaps he was just a little too young to have any selfishness. In a place like this, where just about everything was shared, it must have been rather normal to give generously. Although, there were few who would give away all the eggs they found. She supposed there must have been a couple of other children in the Crèche who had firelizards from the same hatching.
Well, he seemed like a caring sort and she hoped he would be able to get his very own firelizard. Hopefully in time he will also have a dragon! He seemed to hold the same opinion for Osro started speaking of a time when Dhanuth was older and the two of them could go flying together. She hoped he would impress a dragon. It sounded like it would be absolutely super! It would be awesome fun to go flying around with another Rider when Dhanuth was older. Perhaps he would be able to stand in just a few short turns.
“Yes! Now I will be able to fly all over Pern visiting people and I bet you'll be able to do the same! It would be amazing if Dhanuth was a good Searchdragon and then I could see others as happy as I was when I was Searched.”
Dhanuth looked up at Fel with a somewhat confused expression. He wasn’t sure whether he would be able to choose those Candidates most likely to impress. It seemed impossible to figure out just who would be chosen by a dragon who wasn’t himself. It would be… Interesting.

Oh, I swear this town gets smaller everyday, And I'm waitin for my chance, I'm gonna break away, I'm so sick and tired of being told what's good for me.
"You never know when a dragon will be a good searchdragon or when they'll search;" Osro said sagely, nodding at her with a very serious expression on his face. He didn't know exactly what he meant by what he was saying, but he knew it was important and true. He was parroting the wisdom of weyrfolk, the sort of bits and pieces you heard and picked up if you lived around dragons. However, despite this serious bit of advice for Fel, Osro was never without an optimistic turn on whatever was happening. Pessimism didn't suit his friendly nature. "I bet Dhanuth will be a really, really, really awesome flier though. He'll go nroooom right through the Wastes! Right around the world! Nrooooom!" He illustrated his point by sticking out his arm and running about the room, grinning as he careened around toys until he returned to Fel and put his wings away.
Breathing hard, Osro smiled up at Fel. Then he smiled at Dhanuth too, reaching over and giving the black a pat on his neck. "You're going to take really good care of Fel." He sounded very confident of this fact. Fel and him had only just met, but he already assumed that they were friends. He made friends easily, at least on his part. "And Fel will take care of you!" It was like he was giving them his childish blessing for a happy, long life together. More Weyr wisdom. With a cheep and a bit of cold air, a bronze appeared over Dhanuth's head and descended to coil around Osro's neck. The boy sighed. Afzal had come to see what he was doing. "I am making friends;" he grumbled at the bronze. The flitter looked over at Fel and Dhanuth, then turned his stern gaze to his young adoptive master. "I'll go back to playing soon. Stop it;" Osro scolded, hands on his hips.
Angel carry me, oh, so far away, May my body never touch the ground, And if I promise you that I'll be back someday, Will you set me free so I can fly away?

It was now, speaking to Osro, that Fel realised she knew very little about the Weyr in which she lived. She wasn’t sure whether he had thought of the snippet of wisdom himself or whether he was just repeating something but either way, it was certainly something she would have to remember. Glancing sideways at Dhanuth, she smiled. Well, if he was a good Searchdragon then she would be able to fly all over Pern. They would be able to fly together!
Exactly like that. Fel resisted the urge to join Osro as he zoomed around the room but giggled and bounced on the balls of her feet instead. She was still a kid but now she was also a Weyrling. She needed to make sure she stayed a little bit composed and mature. Besides, she didn’t think Dhanuth would like it if she ran around the room like a dragon. “Yeah! And maybe one day you can come with us! We could all go flying around Pern together!!” She half called out to him as he zoomed somewhere on the other side of the room.
When he returned Fel smiled so happily feeling considerably more confident about her own suitability to be a Rider. Dhanuth rumbled gently and pleasently when the hand was placed on his neck. “Thank you Osro!” Yes, thank you.
Dhanuth had bespoken the boy again with a small nod of his head. It was odd but he rather liked the child. He was interesting and certainly enthusiastic about life. That was good. Dhanuth looked up as a firelizard appeared and snaked his head a little higher to better examine the bronze.
“Oh is this… Afzal? Hello!”
