This would not do at all! All this mess around the Weyr!? It was despicable! How was it that the two leggers could do so much but not even keep the place satisfactorily tidy!? And look here! A door left wide open and she too weak to close it. Who left doors wide open like this? Untidy people that was who! She turned in the air and chirped angrily at Hers and the strange black thing she loved so much. These people leave the doors open far too much! How dare they! Honestly.
Kire wandered over to the pink firelizard and searched for the mess. It was only when the pink started pointedly headbutting the door that she realised what the problem was. Goodness, how many doors had she closed over the past few sevendays. People just left them open all the time. Well, Kire would fix that. Where people were busy cleaning and fixing things after the fire she would make certain the Weyr stores were kept under lock and key!
Kisk scurried on ahead, catching onto the chore His wanted him to accomplish. Yes, he would shut all the doors because he was absolutely amazing! Amazing investigator! He charged towards a door and the scratched at it sadly when he realised he could not close it. Kisk no know how close! KISK AM SAD! NO ABLE END CLOSE! NOT GOOD! MUCH SAD!
He whimpered sadly, crouched on the ground until Kire walked over and petted him kindly before shutting the door for the wher. “Don’t worry Kisk! I’ll help you. You can find them and I can shut them for you!”
She bent and kissed the knobbly head of the black prompting a new bout of waggles as he bounded down the corridor again to search for new doors. He was so smart! She was so lucky to have impressed the black wher. He knew so much even if he was too distracted to show others.

If only Kisk had known his exuberance was causing issues within the Weyr—had been causing issues, and was about to cause them again, but he couldn’t. None of them could. The stone down here did not echo so full was it of miscellaneous goods and buried beneath the depths of the Weyrwall, so the faint voices of speaking folk within the room were drowned out easily by the noise of firelizard and the mental touch of the Wher himself.
”Shards,” Sebol hissed with exasperation as the door was closed on them for what had to be the fourth time—it wasn’t even like they were down here all that often, but every single time they had been locked in one of the rooms. Sebol had found Xiro’el during the first occurrence in early Fall, Kalenna had rescued the pair during the next just prior to the fire, then again when it had happened for a third time before the cold months had crept up on them. By this point they were all in agreement that there was something more than just addled drudges or doors that needed oiling going on.
Sigard appeared near his head suddenly, chittering in agitation. Yes, again silly Blue, again. This time, however, the ex-Herder knew there had to be a culprit that was still close, so he sent the Blue between and up the stone corridor chasing after whomever had decided to suddenly lock them in. Even through the thickness of the walls Sebolaren could hear the challenging bugle that the Blue barked into the depths. Who had locked his two-legger away? What was this madness?
Turning away from the door to look at his blood-brother with pursed lips, Sebol rolled his eyes. ”Now my perfect record of being at the Stands every night will be tarnished—what will Couineth think? It isn’t faiiir!” Hoping that the joke would alleviate the situation—Xiro’el had to be basically used to this by now, right? Sebol stalked closer to his friend and Cyanrider, reaching past him for the glow basket. ”At least we’ve taken to bringing more glows than we need, could be daylight in here for as bright as it is—don’t you go trying to kiss me while we’re trapped down here, I’m on to your tricks.”

Again? Again? Come on! Releasing a hard breath through his nose that sounded more like a growl than anything else, Xiro'el shook his head and glared at the shelf in front of him. Honestly. All they'd been doing was talking -- well, talking and looking for oil yet again, since Tigreath went through ridiculous amounts of the stuff now that she was nearly twice the height of her rider. And now, just like on that first unfortunate expedition, he was trapped in a storeroom. At least this time there was plenty of light, since every single time he and Sebol came down here they seemed to get trapped somewhere. It was infuriating.
When Sigard appeared, Xiro knew that Avsiran would be quick to follow, and indeed the blue popped into existence above his head, squealing and zipping in circles as he sensed his bonded's agitation. "Go catch 'em!" the trader ordered, and his firelizard vanished again, reappearing in the hallway and racing after his brother. He, however, did not stop at merely bugling a challenge. No, he would save his humans and be brave about it! Warbling imperiously, Avsiran blinked into existence further up the corridor, ahead of the wher and his handler. Chittering angrily, he flashed angry colours into the black's mind, then hissed at the girl and darted at her face. No! Wrong way! She had to go back the other way or he would eat her face! Sigard, come help him! He was going to herd these silly persons like BiggerHis herded tallthings!
Despite their predicament, the cyanweyrling did grin at Sebol's joke. "Not fair indeed. Maybe you'll just have to dash in, take a look, and dash out again." His mood dropped again shortly after this remark with the words Sebol spoke, and he glanced at the glowbaskets with an expression of annoyance. "Yeah, until the door-shutter decides it's funny to ignore the flits and leave us here and they burn out." Pessimistic? Oh yes. Xiro'el did not care at the moment, though.
Truth be told, he probably would have forgotten that Stands incident if Sebol hadn't brought it up again. Fickle, that was Xiro, and while the moment had been hilarious, it also hadn't registered as significant to him. Clearly it had for the giant. The trader whipped around and deftly thieved the glowbasket out from under his best friend's questing fingers, using his free hand to lightly flick the bigger man's wrist up and away. "Aren't you glad I can't?" he inquired lightly, ducking out and away from his blood brother and holding the glow up to illuminate the room. "Shame I'm not tall. Or you're not short. I could get you every time you weren't paying attention and you would be helpless. Then you'd have something to fear."

Kire was so pleased with their work that she was very almost skipping down the hall. She turned and frowned back at the corridor when she heard a firelizard’s bugle but shrugged her shoulders. Turning forward she actually screamed as a blue seemed to jump at her face. Vesta darted forwards at the firelizard to scold him but a little too late. He had flown at Kire’s face. Kire screamed softly and covered her face with her arms, dropping to the ground. “No you are a bad firelizard! Stop!”
Kisk, meanwhile, had stopped when the firelizard had appeared and done nothing more except cock his head to the side in confusion at the barrage of images to assault his mind. Nope! Don’t know. Nope, no, no. He waggled his tail though until the flitt launched itself at BestKire and then immediately whined unhappily. NO THAT BAD! THAT BESTKIRE YOU NO HURT! NO! THAT NOT PLAY. NOT MEAN MY BESTKIRE!
For the first time in his whole short life, Kisk was angry. He hissed softly and growled a quiet puppy growl as Kire dropped to the ground and then moved to stand between His BestKire and the assailant. Vesta had also taken a more aggressive stance and threw herself at the bad firelizard. Kire, had she not been fearing for her life (Yes she was) would have found it intensely curious that Kisk had taken this stance and, indeed, probably calmed him down.
YOU BAD FIRELIZARD! BESTVEST BETTER. Kisk wasn’t sure what this thing wanted but any creature that flew into BestKire’s face wasn’t being nice and would have to go through him. This, as far as he was concerned, was not playing at all. BestVest certainly didn’t play with people by throwing herself at their faces. Bad firelizard! Kisk hissed again and backed up against Kire protectively.

”Yes,” he agreed quietly, with all indication that he was oh so very unhappy that the man couldn’t reach him to molest him more often. For once his height gave him an advantage that Pern wasn’t constantly trying to make pointless by drawing him back to her with disastrous results. Turning away from the Trader, as the man seemed to be playing some coy game that Sebol wanted no part of, the ex-Herder returned to the door to tap on it lightly with his unsheathed blade, the noise making a hollow ringing through the suspended sheet of stone. Hopefully, if the person chose to came back, they would hear the tapping and understand the meaning.
If only Sebol had known that Avsiran was currently attacking the would-be saviours and actual catalysts of the problem. Sigard, typically annoyed with his brother’s inability to handle things tactfully, landed on the ground near the girl and chirped at her quietly. Please help? Please? Pushing away his brother’s thoughts with his own, more concise images of the door, and people inside. People in danger. Wherfolk helped people in danger, and they had caused this in their own way so they had to fix it. Avsiran was bad and obnoxious, but Sigard was not, and his human was not. Please help, please?
