After a long time Je’kyll had finally found time to see his first ever beast. Requias hadn’t travelled with them to the Weyr but had arrived with some of the transport good. What little political and monetary capital Je’kyll had owned had been spent on transporting the Runnerbeast to him at Dalibor. He walked into the stables and petted the beasts muzzle. “How are you? Sorry I had to leave you so long but I didn’t want you to come between with us.” He muttered to the animal. He could hear Hydeth’s disgruntled rumble from the Weyr. She had never been all that impressed by the fact that he had something that looked like a Herdbeast but was not allowed to be eaten.
Why are you going for a ride when you could go for a fly? Je’kyll smiled in spite of himself and led the Runner from her stall, Requias happily obliging. Would you like to be cooped up for ages in a stall? He retorted casually. He was pleased with the word of the Herders, they seemed to keep the animals well exercised in spite of whether or not the beasts belonged to the Weyr or not. He checked over her and didn’t really find any problems with her. The Beasthealers obviously did a decent job.
Je’kyll wandered back to her stall to grab a saddle and placed it lightly on her back. She was getting a little older now but she was still fairly healthy. He didn’t see too many people going out for a ride these days. He guessed the Riders generally had other things to do and he probably missed some of the Runners when they left the Weyr. Hmpf… Mine, I would very much like to come too. Hydeth… You can just wait there. We’ll go for a fly later. He replied.
Swinging himself into the saddle felt natural for the ex-runner. He always loved going for a ride. It certainly wasn’t the same as being on a Dragon but that was the joy of it all. Fine. I will go for a hunt. I am hungry. Je’kyll shrugged a little. He didn’t mind too much what she wanted to do. He would obviously keep her on mind, there was nothing else he could do, but it would be nice to get away from the Weyr and responsibilities if only for a short while.

Being a full rider was such a nice change from being a weyrling, Tasakhori thought. Even though she'd graduated a long time ago, she still appreciated how much free time she now had. Pandemoniuth loved it too, although she couldn't quite understand why Hers spent so much time riding that runnerbeast of hers.
But he can't fly, Mine! the green protested, twisting her neck to glance at her rider, who was currently engaged in leaping down from her shoulder. Sliding down a foreleg was far too mundane for Tasa, who preferred to jump. For the first Turn or so of their time spent flying, the redhead had acquired numerous bumps and bruises from this stunt. At last she'd figured it out, though, and injuries were now rather infrequent. Not that she even noticed, of course; she was far too busy hugging her dragon's foreleg and scurrying off.
I know! But he's my pony, Pandy! I gotta take care of him and stuff! Leaving her green to ponder that (not that Pandy was really capable of any sort of pondering), Tasa zipped into the stables, making a beeline straight for Miles' stall. The pony was standing still, looking quite bored, but he nickered when he saw her and moved to the door, putting his head over so she could kiss him on the nose. "Hey, there, handsome!" she chirped, rubbing the whorl in the middle of his forehead. "Let me in -- we're going for a ride."
It didn't take long to check him over, groom him, or saddle him up, but that could just have been because Tasa was an expert at it by now. She led her runner out and down the hall, and swung her short self neatly into the saddle. As soon as she was sitting atop the pony (who snorted and shook his head in a show of displeasure at being ridden), the greenrider noticed that there was another person out riding today, and he wasn't far off. Oh, happy day! Normally she had to go for rides alone -- but today would be different!
"C'mon, sweetheart," she murmured, urging her fat pony forward with a nudge from her heels. He protested, but moved into a plodding walk, at least until she pushed him a little harder and he had to pick up his feet. In this manner, they were able to catch up to the other equestrian pair, and Tasa grinned over at the other rider. Even in the saddle, she was a lot shorter than he was, but that had never mattered to her -- she was shorter than everybody. "Hi! Pretty mare... what's her name?"
Not wanting to sit outside the stables being lonely, Pandemoniuth bounded off to go get a snack for herself. It didn't take her long to bumble into the pink dragon, and she warbled a greeting, fluttering after her in just the same manner as a lost puppy. Hello! Is your Mine the person my Tasakhorimineminemine is talking to? He has a runner too! I don't know why people like runners -- I'd just eat them, but Mine won't let me 'cause she says that they're not supposed to be eaten. Do you think the same?

Je’kyll twisted in the saddle when he heard a female voice. He looked about for a moment until he spotted a short, squat pony trotting up to join him and Requias. He hid his distaste and inclined his head to the female good-naturedly. Unfortunately, with Hydeth in a frustrated mood Je’kyll was feeling a little frustrated himself. Still, snapping at her for no apparent reason hardly seemed to be the best course of action. He did not smile in greeting though but slowed the Runner from a trot to a walk to keep pace with the plodding pony. “Requias… She’s been with me for quite sometime.” Je’kyll elaborated. A fond smile played on his lips as he stroked the mare’s mane. He looked down at the other Rider and nodded towards the tiny pony. “And what is his name?”
With the calming nature of the Runner Je’kyll was definitely feeling a little more tolerant of his companion. Hydeth was in something of a raging fit of fury but Requias’ calm temperament served to calm Je’kyll. He felt so calm that he was inwardly laughing at the actions of Hydeth. Requias turned her head a little to take a peek at the pony beside her. She whinnied a greeting and sniffed the smaller Runner. She tossed her head a little, and then dipped it, pleased to be getting some exercise.
Hydeth almost missed the greeting from the Green as she tore her prey apart, spraying blood everywhere. She took great joy in tearing the creatures to pieces and then ate them each rather methodically. She stopped and stared at the Green for a while as the other Dragon warbled a greeting. She swallowed a chunk of meat and whipped her tail about as she deciphered the words from the Green.
I would eat them too… Mine says that thing was here before me though and that I should just accept it. She replied grudgingly. She stamped a foreleg down onto a creature that was running past and then bit down, swallowing it whole. A Wherry. Lovely. She turned her attention back to the Green and studied her for a moment. Why walk when you could fly!? Flying is much faster. He spent many turns perfecting how to fly with me only to go and walk with a Runner.

Pleased that her new companion hadn't immediately snapped at her or anything, Tasakhori grinned, and then paused so that a suitably admiring expression could appear on her face. "Requias? That's a beautiful name! I think it suits her. My pony's called Miles. I've had him forever." The rider reached down to pat her mount's shoulder, smiling tenderly. While always a hyperactive individual, she was more subdued around Miles, if only because she didn't want to spook him.
As soon as the tall mare greeted him, Miles offered a friendly nicker and extended his muzzle to sniff at her in return. He snorted and shook his head, but decided he liked Requias and cocked one ear towards her. While he was in a plodding, lazy sort of mood today, the bay decided that he could afford to liven up a bit, and picked up his hooves, prancing in an effort to impress the other equine.
Grinning, Tasa patted his neck, not at all bothered by the sudden quick motions her pony was making, and shot the other rider a broad smile. "You know, I'm kinda surprised that more people don't have runners. Dragons are great, and I love mine to bits, but it's fun to ride horses too... even if they can't fly." Maybe she'd picked up on the train of thought from her green, who was currently pondering the same thing.
So does MINE! Pandemoniuth announced in a tone that said she thought this was the most amazing thing ever. I wonder if your Mine and my Mine are really the same Mine? Are you real? Bounding after the pink, unfazed by the slaughter of the food animals, the green trilled excitedly, stretching out her nose in an effort to nip at the other dragon's tail. Mine likes to go super duper fast when she's riding me, but her runner is soooo slooooow! He can't go nearly as fast as me! I'm really fast! Are you fast too? We should play a GAME! Games are fun! A fast game, so that we can fly around all quickly and stuff while our Mines are riding those slow runners! She pondered for a moment, apparently missing the fact that most dragons felt rather weighed down after eating, and then warbled gleefully when she came up with a solution. We should play TAG! Tag is fun! Do you want to? When you're done eating? Or NOW! Nownownow! Pleeeeease?

Je’kyll watched the two Runnerbeasts examine one another with a small grin. He was aware that Hydeth was, at that moment, examining the Green Dragon bonded to the woman beside him. She did not speak directly to him about anything but he could still feel and understand what was happening in her mind. She wasn’t pleased still but the chatter from the Green had forced her to calm and decipher everything the other Dragon was saying. Thank goodness.
“Miles… It suits him.” Je’kyll responded after some consideration. It was an almost short, plodding name for a short plodding pony. Very suited to the smaller creature beside them. He wouldn’t say it was cute, per say, but definitely acceptable, perhaps a little different even. Nice, different and unusual. That was what he thought of the name and also what he liked out of life.
“Yep, Requias has been around for a while too.” Je’kyll stated. Requias was bordering on about ten turns or so now. It made him sort of sad to think the mare was getting a little older. Ah well, she’d be right. He petted her fondly on her neck once more as she stamped her feet as though tempted to join in the smaller Runner’s trotting dance. She reared ever so slightly and took to a plodding pace, trotting up and down every now and again. Perhaps she was trying to show off but Je’kyll was more inclined to think she was copying. Requias didn’t often show off but she did enjoy copying the movements of some other creatures every now and again. “Do you think he can keep up?” Je’kyll asked with a mischievous grin.
Hydeth snorted at the silly questions. If Hers was the same as the Greens she would eat the resident Gold Wher. She would have destroyed any dragon that had tried to take Hers before they even got close. She drew herself up a little higher as the Green wandered over to her. I certainly hope that I am real. How then will I devour my foes and decimate Thread? She bared her jaws at the thought.
Hydeth did not want to play tag. But it certainly beat sitting there stuffing her chops and getting so fat that she would never be able to fly again. Why, then she would have to put up with Hers going for stupid Runs with the creature far more often. She would become a blob on the ground with nothing at all to do with her spare time. She shuddered a little at the thought and spread her wings, stamping the remains of the blooded creatures. She began her characteristic swaying for a moment, watching Pandemoniuth with some vagueness. Fine. We shall play some tag. She agreed aftr a moment, I can fly as fast as the wind in the trees!
She leapt into the air, looking below to check whether Pandemoniuth followed.

"It does! I named him," Tasakhori added with an obvious note of pride. And she'd picked his name well, she thought. If Je'kyll had named Requias, he'd also chosen well -- the mare was gorgeous, sleek and refined just as her name implied. Gosh, she was pretty! And she looked to be well-built, too, which Tasa appreciated a great deal thanks to being brought up by herders.
Just as if she'd just heard the most amazing news in the world, the greenrider lifted her brows, mouth opening slightly at the other rider's comment. "Miles too!" she exclaimed in delight, and then frowned slightly, glancing down at the soft neck in front of her. That meant he'd be getting old relatively soon... but she didn't want him to. As far as Tasa was concerned, Miles should be around forever and that was that.
Pushing these unpleasant thoughts from her mind, the greenrider grinned as she noticed Requias' prancing, and lifted red brows slightly. "Aww! That's cute," she decided aloud, and laughed. Miles, beneath her, took the other runner's copying as a challenge, and nickered, lifting his short legs and bursting into an energetic trot. He could be fast and flashy, too! Besides, he shouldn't keep her waiting, right? Not that he was inclined to care, being a rather selfish pony, but if she was going to show off too he might as well give her a reason!
Giggling with delight at her pony's antics, Tasa reached down to scratch his shoulder, and glanced to the pinkrider with a broad smile on her face. "Not if she goes very fast," she responded truthfully, and grinned. "He's not all that fast. But he's fun to ride! Requias looks like she is, too. I'm glad they like each other." She paused for a moment, nose wrinkling slightly, and then the chocolate-brown eyes widened. "Oh! We should be friends! I'm Tasakhori! What's your name? I kind of wish we could just know people's names like dragons can, don't you?"
Unfazed by Hydeth's snorting and fang-baring, mostly because she was too oblivious to really notice it, Pandemoniuth warbled excitedly. You could use a flamethrower! she suggested helpfully, failing to see the gap between her logic and the pink's. Technically, non-real beings couldn't use flamethrowers, but she didn't even notice. I can't wait to burn Thread and stuff! It'll be fun! I can fly all lightning-fast and burn it and then poof between and come back and burn MORE! What are foes? Are they like herdbeasts? They must be tasty. Herdbeasts are tasty. I don't think it would be fun to eat something that isn't tasty.
Lack of enthusiasm was no excuse not to play with Pandy, or so she would have reasoned if she'd thought about it at all. As it was, the green basically took it for granted that the pink was going to play tag with her, and she bounded into the sky after Hydeth, warbling excitedly. Can you really? How fast is it? Is it as fast as me? Are YOU as fast as me? I wonder how fast people could fly if they had wings. Tagyou'reit! The green zoomed in close to Hydeth, bugled an excited challenge, and flicked her across the other's flank, tearing off into the sky. She was fast! She was fabulous! She was Pandemoniuth and she was totally not going to get caught, never ever!

Je’kyll listened to his companion as she spoke. She sure did speak a heck of a lot! Was there something wrong in the water in Dalibor. Two of the three Riders he had met seemed to speak faster than he could even think! G’night had spoken almost every thought he had out loud and now there was this other Rider saying so much. Ah well. He guessed something like that’d probably happen to him if he stayed here too long.
Requias nickered happily at the trotting pony and upped her speed to a trot to mimic the smaller runner once more, tossing her head. Je’kyll masked his annoyance with a blank stare at the Runner but her happiness was contagious. His blank stare slowly became something more of a smile at the comments from the female… Tasakhori. Well, he certainly wouldn’t make Requias run then. He… Almost… Liked her!? Shocking as this news was it made him smile a little broader, working muscles that barely ever got used. “Je’kyll.” He replied calmly, “It’d be an honour to be your friend.”
Requias started trotting a little faster, they were out for a ride so they needed to run! Je’kyll reigned her in just a little, keeping pace with the other two. He was pleased with the company. Why shouldn’t he be happy? He was Rider for Faranth’s sake! He should be pleased about that. Yep, Hydeth was the love of his life and he didn’t tell her that nearly enough. I love you Hydeth.
Overhead Hydeth slowed her flying at the words, confusion flowing through their bond. Was Hers quite all right!? He sounded almost… Sad or something. What a strange creature. She started flying a little faster and with a renewed happiness, but was quickly tagged by Pandemoniuth! She bugled and shot after the larger dragon. She would catch her! Hydeth was the winner of everything. Do not worry Mine. I know. Now I must win this game! For you! Hydeth then shouted out to the Green, Of course I am faster than the wind! I am faster than Thread and I am faster than you!!
Her tone had become friendly once more and she had begun humming softly. She shot after the Green trying to keep up but there was no doubting the speed of the other Dragon. She nearly caught her but lost some speed. She managed to catch up once more and tried to reach out with her wing to tag the Green. I am fast! I will win!! She shouted, dreamy vagueness permeating her thoughts.

Far too oblivious to notice the rider's facial transformations from blank stare to almost-smile, Tasakhori kept chattering on, and when she finally reached the end of her ramblings she switched her attention to the pinkrider at last. "Je'kyll!" she repeated brightly, and then beamed in delight. "Oh, good! It'd be an honour to be your friend too, Je'kyll! Especially 'cause you actually have a runner and ride her. I mean, nobody else does. I dunno why. I don't think having a dragon is any reason not to go for a ride once in a while, do you?"
Miles, nickering to his new friend, tossed his head and flagged his tail, snorting and generally showing off. He didn't care that he wasn't anywhere near the other runner's size. He was handsome, and therefore he had every right to show off his handsomeness. On his back, the greenrider grinned and kept him in check, but let him prance as much as he wanted to, since he really wasn't misbehaving. If he didn't cause trouble, he was allowed to make himself look pretty. Or try to -- he was rather fat and shaggy, after all.
Aha! She was being chased! But that was only proper, seeing as they were playing a game of tag, and Pandemoniuth trumpeted playfully to the other dragon, speeding away. Are not! she retorted childishly, and whipped into a hairpin turn, barely pulling off the maneuver. You can't catch me, never never!
This was proven to be a lie when the pink dragon reached out with a wing and managed to tag the green. Squealing in outrage, Pandy double-checked to make sure she'd been caught, and then lunged for the pink, stretching out her nose in an attempt to return the favour before her opponent even had a chance to fly away. I'll win FIRST! she announced logically, and chirped. I like winning! Do you like winning too?

Je’kyll smiled broader and allowed Requias to run just a tad faster. Sadly, he probably wouldn’t get to ride her too much. The past few turns leading up to his impression had been tough enough but with the new Weyr he needed to make something of a name for himself. Not to mention she had only just arrived after being transported. All of his money was gone so that Requias could join them. Money well spent in his opinion. If she had remained at Fort he would have been incredibly disappointed. She probably would have found a nice enough home with another Runner but he could never truly know whether she was being treated well. “Well, I guess that some people can’t find enough time for them. I mean, I always try but it’s difficult. She only just arrived though. I asked a friend to work on getting her here. I owe them a lot.”
The Runners had always been rather close to one another. It was something he had found in his time. They all seemed to feel an affinity with each other. A connection. They tended to want to do favours for one another but when he had become a healer and, eventually, a rider he had lost some of the weight he held amongst the others. Well, at least he could help them out a little more now by protecting them from Thread.
Hydeth let out a draconic laugh and spun around to get away from Pandemoniuth. She was the fastest there was! And she was smaller than the green so she might even have been able to move faster anyway! Plus, it was a little easier to move around in the air being a smaller dragon. Then again, she was also a little unlucky because she would be outgrown by even the tiny green Weyrlings. Of course I like winning! And I always do, haha.
She looped around, performing some manoeuvres through the air to keep away from Pandemoniuth as best she could. She didn’t want to be caught!

That was a good point, and Tasakhori nodded thoughtfully, watching the other rider's face. "That's kinda true, I guess. I mean, being a weyrling and trying to take care of Miles at the same time was crazy! Wow." Taking care of a dragon and a runner and keeping both in good condition? That had been hard. And she'd even cheated and asked some of the herders to keep an eye on him and make sure he was ridden and everything!
"I'm glad she's here for you! It'd be a shame to have to leave such a wonderful mare behind. Where're you from, Je'kyll? Did you and Requias have to come a long way?" Maybe they were even from Benden, like her! Granted, only her parents were from Benden, and she'd grown up near the Hold instead of in the Weyr, but... that didn't matter, did it?
Hydeth was so not going to win this! Pandy squealed, whipping after the pink. She was used to being the smallest and fastest female ever, and she didn't like being outdone! Granted, this was a great opportunity to try and make herself even quicker so that when Thread fell she would be like lightning, untouchable, a flaming green fury! Thread would cry when it saw Pandemoniuth coming!
You won't this time! the green exclaimed, and streaked after her new friend and rival. The spirit of competition was hot in her now, and she would totally win! She could maneuver as well as Hydeth, if maybe not as fast, and she cut through the air after the pink, bugling a challenge. Soon she'd managed to gain ground, and she powered through the sky, stretching out her neck in a bid to tap the pink on the flank. So close! So close! Could she reach her?

”Fort. We transferred because of a few things but mostly because the leadership was… Not to Hydeth’s liking.” He had nodded in agreement to her comment about caring for runners throughout weyrlinghood. He supposed she, like him, had asked some of the herders to assist in caring for the creature. Although, he’d also had runner friends to care for Requias when the herders were particularly busy. Some of them had even borrowed the mare for their work.
“So it took quite some time for poor Requias to arrive.” He felt back for forcing the mare to transfer but he also hadn’t wanted to leave her behind. He figured things in Dalibor seemed far better. There didn’t seem to be such a conservative atmosphere. He knew that one of the brownriders had transferred, however, and would probably do his best to avoid the man.
Nonono!! You will not catch me! Hydeth had the speed advantage. She would never be caught by the green. She had all but forgotten that her rider had taken the silly runner out instead of her. Now she was almost able to have fun. She bugled, looking over her shoulder at the green.
She was flying at an average speed and tried to pick up the pace. She was feeling a little tired as the green approached and found she could not fly any faster than she was currently. She hissed when she felt herself get tagged by the green and performed a hairpin turn in an attempt to reach the green before she could fly off. Unfortunately, Pandemoniuth seemed to have flown away far too quickly for her.
She trumpeted once more and shot after the green. She would always win! She was a pink and would be triumphant!!

"Ooh. I hear the Weyrwoman's been having troubles with Fort," the greenrider remarked thoughtfully, and then flashed a grin at her newfound companion. "Still, I'm glad you're here instead of there! Dalibor is great! Hydeth's great too, if what I'm getting from Pandy is any good." Tasakhori adored her green, so naturally everything that came through their connection was perfectly sound, but she knew that a lot of people didn't understand her hyperactive green. They thought she wasn't smart. ...Which she really wasn't, but still! The nerve!
"Miles too. Only I came here on a boat with him so he wouldn't have to be alone. It took forever!" Heck, she hadn't even ridden a dragon to the Weyr! Tasa supposed they'd only allowed that because no clutch had been on the Sands and there had been no signs of any queens Rising when she hopped on that boat. Oh, well! "You know, if it weren't likely to make Miles feel all inferior and stuff, I would say we should totally race! But I don't want to do that to him. So! What sorts of stuff do you like to do, Je'kyll? 'Sides ride Requias, I mean?"
She wouldn't catch Hydeth? Of course she would! The green, while not that much larger than the pink, had a bit more stamina, and she was able to summon enough strength to catch up to her opponent. And then... success! Her muzzle contacted the other dragon's soft hide, and Pandemoniuth roared in delight, streaking off in an effort to escape. Hydeth didn't maneuver fast enough to catch her right from the get-go, so she was free!
Pandy planned to use that freedom to the best of her ability. Bugling a challenge to the other female, she shot up into the sky, higher and higher, meaning to get right up into the clouds. And then tag would be extra fun! Playing when you couldn't see properly was always more fun!

Je’kyll could hardly blame the Weyrwoman, Fort was not led by the most enlightened bunch of people. He knew that Hydeth thought little of the Weyrwoman often refusing to acknowledge her title now they had transferred. In fact, she’d rarely spoken to the gold unless absolutely pertinent. Hydeth hadn’t tended to bespeak many riders at Fort either. He nodded in response to her statement. He wasn’t precisely sure what was happening at Dalibor but many Fort riders seemed to consider Dalibor dangerously progressive.
“It took me some time to get a transfer. The Weyrwoman strongly advised against my transfer.”
He was surprised that the woman had tried to keep him in the Weyr. He wasn’t exactly important to them at all. Perhaps it was more that she was actually somewhat concerned about him. Either way, Je’kyll was not impressed by the actions of the woman, perhaps only because of her negativity when he had wanted to transfer.
“Well, if we had some sort of weights for Requias she would run slower. It might be a fairer race.”
Hydeth bugled back to the green in an almost aggressive manner. She would not be beaten by a green! They were always causing problems and being silly. Well, at least this green was not mean. She was a little silly but she wasn’t all that bad.
I WILL CATCH YOU! She called back.
But she was sort of tired. Her head was drooping but she kept on. She would win! She pushed herself further still as they flew into the clouds together. She tried to reach out to the green but missed. She would win!

Well, Tasakhori had any number of things to say about Weyrwomen who wouldn't let their riders come to a great place like Dalibor, but she restrained herself. Je'kyll might still feel some kind of loyalty to his old Weyr, after all, whether or not he'd liked it there and regardless of his transfer.
"I guess maybe she had her reasons," the redhead murmured in a tone that implied she didn't think the reasons were likely to be very good. "But at least she let you come eventually! Which is great, because otherwise I never would have met you." Back to the boundless energy she was known for, Tasa grinned and nudged her pony gently, getting him to step forward and keep up with Requias.
"Handicaps! That'd be a good idea. Only I don't know where to get any, but I can look into it, and then we can race! Think that'd be fun?" She thought it would be fantastic! Dashing along at lightning speed on the back of her pony, seeking glory across the finish line? Best idea ever! Tasa acknowledged that Miles was not that fast, and he was rather chubby to boot, but if she had time, she could maybe start conditioning him... that at least would give him a slightly better chance, right?
You will not! I shall hide in the lake and you won't find me and you'll never catch me! Pandemoniuth declared, and zipped higher into the sky. Unbeknownst to her, this was not the direction in which the lake lay. Had she been a slightly brighter dragon (or paying more attention to her own plots), the green may have realized this. Or she might not.
Casting a glance back at the pink, Pandy was surprised to find the other dragon's energy flagging. To her surprise, she was getting tired, too -- she just hadn't noticed, what with all the flying around and stuff. Puzzled, she chirped, and slowed, leveling out to cut a straight path through the clouds. Do you think there are cloud-dragons, Hydeth? You know, ones that live up here all the time? I wonder if we could find them! Cloud-dragons and sky-flitters and maybe some air-whers too!

Je’kyll figured that even with a handicap of sorts Requias would probably still win. Then again, if the handicap was heavy enough she probably would not even get her hooves off the ground. Well, he needed some excitement in his life and with no Thread this was probably the simplest way to see it. He could always go on a rampage throughout the Weyr for some interesting times but he had come to prefer Dalibor. Perhaps if he took Hydeth back to Fort and then disappeared without a trace…
He pushed the thoughts from his mind knowing they were likely going to encourage Hydeth’s generally violent way of solving problems. Unfortunately, the dragon seemed to consider the only way of solving anything was by eating it. Instead, he looked over at Tasakhori and Miles with a wondering expression, considering how much weight would be fair for the mare to carry. If they got hold of a few bags and filled them with sand…
“Well, it’s simple enough to grab a couple of bags and fill them with sand or dirt. Enough of those would create something of a handicap, at least enough to make it fair.” He shrugged thoughtfully. He was the brains Hydeth was the brawn.
Hydeth pushed onwards lamenting the fact that she had not trained herself nearlyas hard as she should have. She liked blaming Fort for everything and quite happily blamed them for their lack of wing drills. Pandemoniuth was nearby she could see her. Only… The green was talking again. Oh you will never reach the lake!
She was distracted again by the green’s suggestion about cloud dragons. No. What a ridiculous suggestion. There was no way there was such a thing as cloud dragons. Silly green. No. They cannot sleep up here. They would fall.
Her logic was simple but, to her, it was also undeniable.

"That would work! Small bags, I think, so they don't hurt her back," the greenrider decided, and grinned, reining Miles gently in the direction of the storerooms. He moved off her leg willingly, nickering to Requias but heading for the Bowl wall. Sensing his human's anticipation, the short bay snorted and pranced, trotting eagerly forth. He had no idea what was going on, really, but he could tell that it was going to be fun.
For her part, Tasa thought that races were the best thing ever. Pandemoniuth agreed, although she wasn't paying attention right now. And the green was good at them, too! Miles was not, but he didn't know that and his rider did not intend to tell him anytime soon.
Yes I will! You can't stop me! Pandy argued, even though she was going in completely the wrong direction to be heading for the lake. For one thing, she was pointed up, not down. This failed to percolate in her brain, however, and the larger of the two dragons continued on her path through the clouds, chirping.
Cloud dragons couldn't sleep up here? That's silly! Of course they can sleep up here! They're cloud dragons! Cloud dragons sleep on clouds! And if they don't sleep on clouds, they must sleep on the Rim and then come back up to the sky before all the dragons like us wake up so they aren't seen! They're sneaky, you see, so they don't want to be caught, although I don't know why because meeting them would be such fun! It'd be so nice to make friends with the cloud dragons but I suppose we can't unless they actually come down and say hello, since they like to hide and stuff. That makes me sad. We should see if we can find some and make friends with them, don't you think?

Je’kyll turned Requias towards the storerooms. She seemed to have caught onto what they were going to be doing as she pranced happily towards Miles. He rarely saw her acting like a young filly but here she was, cheerful as anything. It was strange that an animal could never frustrate him as people did. Even Hydeth annoyed him at times irrespective of how much he actually cared for her. He supposed it was probably more because runners could not talk back. She trotted along to follow beside Miles. She wasn’t acting quite as disciplined as she may have normally but he was too happy to see her to care.
“She would probably be able to handle it. Then again, I don’t want her harmed. Smaller bags are good.”
If anything ever happened to the mare he would personally take down the person involved and then set Hydeth on them. He was actually rather enthusiastic about seeing Requias run even with a handicap. Hopefully she would still outrun the short, squat pony.
He dismounted when they reached the storerooms and began searching for a couple of unused bags and threw them into a pile as he found them. Requias dipped her head and watched him interestedly before nickering fondly and headbutting him affectionately. He actually laughed.
Hydeth did not like this logic at all. No. Not in the slightest. The thought of a dragon being a cloud frustrated her. She would never be able to eat them if they were clouds. They could do something to harm Hers and there would be nothing she could do to stop them. She hissed angrily and slashed at the air, thrashing around.
They will come nowhere near me and Mine. If they do I will find a way to destroy them. It is good they are hiding from me for I am a fearsome dragon.
She dived down then and started heading towards the ground and the lake, frustrated with the green’s suggestions.
