ooc: before fire ^^
Being pitched head first into a dragon’s neck was not Z’is’ idea of a good time. Rubbing his head he frowned and peeked around Hephaeth to see what had made the dragon stop so abruptly. The two of them had been out for a brief flight and had returned to the Weyrbowl now, looking over Hephaeth’s shoulder… Well, standing and trying to see around the dragon, he could see a group of Runners leaving the stables. He was accustomed to somewhat bumpy landings but this was entirely different. Hephaeth eyed the creatures as they all passed by him apparently on their way out of the Weyr.
It ith rather thtrange I cannot eat them. They look tathty… I think the runners would be rather upset if you ate their transport… Hmpf, they are the oneth leading them patht hungry dragonth. Well, you can eat now. Yeth, ath thoon ath thethe thingth are out of the way.
Z’is smiled and climbed his way out of the riding straps. They were so close to graduating that he couldn’t help feeling excited. It was nowhere near the excitement he had felt when impressing Hephaeth. He climbed back onto the dragon and started removing the straps and loosening the harness. It was getting later in the evening and Z’is supposed they would not have time for any more flying. Part of him, so accustomed to routine, itched to go back into the kitchens and start assisting with dinner but the other part knew he had to at least ensure Hephaeth was sorted out first.
After a few minutes he managed to remove the harness from Hephaeth and the blue ambled his way awkwardly towards the feeding pens. Z’is took his eyes from the dragon for only a moment and when he had looked back up the blue had tripped over and was not sprawled on the ground. It looked rather amusing to see a near full grown dragon on the ground like that but Z’is felt panic as he rushed forwards.
That ith thooooo embarathing Mine. I hope no one thaw… Don’t worry, I’m sure they didn’t
Looking around, however, he saw more than a few concerned faces.

It was time for Calyth to eat. The green had been quite proddy these past few days, more than usual, which meant the pair had fought more seriously. The camo-coloured green was traveling a good distance behind her rider, as if she didn’t want to be recognized as being with her. Tristen ignored her completely, figuring her green to be a hopeless fool of a dragon. At this point she was wishing she’d just impressed a jovial pink. Anything would be better than Calyth’s incessant complaints and vies to find herself the perfect blue. She wasn’t even sure such a blue was out there with how much attention the green liked to be paid. Come rising, Tristen was sure that most dragons were going to want to clear the area. It was better for her anyways, she was not looking forward to Calyth’s maiden flight. She wished that she could clear the area come the big day also.
Calyth was looking around, and Tristen peered at the green over her shoulder. Probably looking for her next victim, the teenager decided, rolling her eyes in disgust. Calyth ignored her, feeling her irritation, and not at all caring. It was then that the green spotted the darker shade of Hephaeth’s hide. Yes, he would do! She liked that he was dark; it was a calming shade to look at. It appealed to her eyes. Calyth changed course so that she would intercept the blue, but by the time she’d done so he had fallen, and was laying there looking absolutely ridiculous. She snorted, having expected a prince, not a clown.
Some dragons... she grumbled to Hers. Tristen stuck her tongue on the inside of her cheek and shook her head, gazing skyward as if saying: “Why?” Figure’s the one thing Calyth decided to say to her had to do with her and her alone. Selfish creature that she was.
Tristen was passing close to Z’is, and she was far more polite and sociable than her dragon. ”Hey,” she smiled, noting his dragon sprawled in front of him. ”Is he okay?” she asked, chuckling softly. It was hard not to laugh, but she didn’t want to be rude. ”He’s cute,” she added, not wanting him to think she was making fun of his dragon. She wasn’t really capable of making fun of anyone. At least to their faces.
Calyth passed right by the three of them, now solely focused on getting herself a nice plump herdbeast to feast on. Socializing was most certainly not her thing when it proved to be of no benefit to her. She remained quiet whenever Tristen talked to someone, and the people figured that she was just being traditional in talking to her rider alone. If that’s what they thought they were wrong, sadly.

Oh no they had seen. Oh and it was one of his sisters too. How embarrassing. She would probably tell all the other dragons in his class how clumsy he was. Hephaeth dropped to the ground and pulled his wings over his head in embarrassment. I will never come out Mine. I am abtholutely mortified. Oh thith is worthe than when I wath knocked over on the thandth. Oh thith green will think me a proper fool now. Pleathe take me to my room tho I can be left to my mithery. It’s not that bad. I’ll bet she just wants to know if you are all right. Noo she ith here to mock me.
Z’is looked down on his poor blue and petted a wing before turning to his classmate with something of a resigned smile. It was rare for the blueweyrling to smile but in the face of his dragon’s distress he tried anything to cheer him up. Perhaps his classmate and her dragon would be able to assist in some way… “Oh, ah yeah… he’s fine just embarrassed I think.” Yeah. Thankth tell her I am fine and that I wish to leave now. Take me to the hidden depthhh of Between. Now you are being ridiculous… “He says thank you. He was going to eat but now…” Oh yeth! I wath going to have food!
A blue head snaked up from beneath the wings and he looked over towards the feeding pens. But now his sister was over there… Maybe if he showed himself to be sufficiently coordinated she would like him. He needed only to catch himself the best wherry there was. Or maybe to catch her the best wherry there was. That would show how great he was. She would not think him so silly then. Hopefully she wasn’t one of the silly dragons in his class. Although, from memory, Calyth was one of the more sensible greens.
Oh Calyth, I am tho thorry. I did not mean to fall in front of you. Perhapth I can catch you a hersbeatht?

”As long as he’s okay,” Tristen said, biting her lip while observing the blue. She was really trying not to chuckle. She could tell that the blue was shy at the moment based on the fact he still hadn’t risen. ”He’s most welcome, I’m sure he could join Calyth in getting something to eat,” she offered, begging her dragon not to protest. Knowing Calyth, she would. Even though poor Hephaeth was a blue, his behaviour was not sitting well with the haughty green. She was grumbling to Tristen about this being a pity party and it was making the young girl feel bad.
”She would love to,” she added rather purposefully, basically informing her dragon that she didn’t have much of a choice. And well you be conversing with him, tell him that I also am interested in shoving my head into a pile of steaming dung. A blush fell over Tristen’s face, but she ignored it, turning around so that she could escort her green the rest of the way to the feeding grounds.
She turned back to look at Z’is, trying for a smile even though her face was numb. ”Coming?” This time she did chuckle. Calyth was walking ahead of Hers, or that was until she stopped to look to Hephaeth, for he was bespeaking her. Is this one trying to imply that I’m incapable of catching my own food? Wherrybrained waste. And then she was on her way again, and had she let Tristen hear what she’d said to the already mortified blue there would have been a full-blown fight.
”I’m sure Calyth and Hephaeth will get along." She was trying to cover up the fact that her green was a demon. Calyth only ever thought about Calyth, and what was best for Calyth. She didn’t even consider her rider a lot of the time. Silly dragon was going to have to learn the hard way. Tristen had tried many, many, times to remind her that they were stuck together and there was nothing either one of them could do about it.
With a down stroke of her wings, Calyth was airborne, moving at an even pace over the fields. She would find a herdbeast, a large one, and then eat it right in front of Hephaeth while mocking his efforts. Whether she felt guilt was a fair question. Tristen was left with wind-blown hair from her dragons takeoff. The multiple shades of green splotching Calyth's hide lit in Rukbat’s rays. She wasn’t focused on her beauty right now; she was far too set on making a kill. And there it was: A herdbeast that would suit her needs. Claws aimed to kill; she dove down, trying to be silent enough not to startle the grazing creature. It hadn’t caught her shadow from up above. Calyth was lucky. Could have just been that the herdbeast was incredibly stupid though.

Hephaeth could not have possibly been more embarrassed. He had made a complete and utter fool of himself before this elegant green and had probably insulted her in some way. She was not replying to his offer and the blue could only look anxiously back at Z’is, shoulders hunched miserably as his head drooped sadly. How was he ever to gain her favour? Well, she was probably one of those silly greens anyway. Perhaps he didn’t want anything to do with her. Hephaeth shuffled away from Calyth his mortification slowly becoming anger.
Hissing in something of a rage, he took to the skies with some clumsiness and flew, rather wobbly, to the opposite side of the pen to take down his own herdbeast. Grudgingly, he settled down to eat it, watching Calyth grumpily. What, she was probably one of those stuck up greens or something. Hmpf, he wanted to stay here. Forever. And ever. And never speak to his siblings ever again. Although… She did look pretty…
Many of Hephaeth’s emotions seeped through their bond as Z’is’ face turned a bright red colour from his dragon’s embarrassment. He tried to cover it as best he could by forcing an awkward smile but he was worried it probably looked more like a grimace. “Hephaeth has always been a bit of a loner….”
They were rather suited to one another in that sense. Both of them tended to be on their own together. Odd enough as that was to consider… That’th not true… “I think he just needs some time… How is your training going?”

Calyth was not at all concerned about whether or not she’d upset the blue. All she cared about was that he had offended her in some way. What way she wasn’t even completely positive of at this point. Ah, yes! That was right. He’d made her feel incompetent, no; he’d acted like she was incompetent! She was Calyth, the most desirable green in the Weyr, and on Pern no doubt. For him to even suggest such a thing made him a fool! She didn’t fraternize with fools. Her rider was partly one, but she was doing her best to fix that. She didn’t watch him when he took to the skies, or made a kill. She was too busy tearing into her own now. The creature had easily fallen under the pressure she’d applied to snap its neck. She was ripping into the fresh flesh, its blood warm going down her throat. When she did look to Hephaeth, after a few bites were taken, her maw was dripping with blood. Her eyes whirred a red. There was no way she was going to stop having a grudge on him. He’d messed up. Big-time. She snorted indignantly and went back to eating, raging in her mind.
Tristen could feel the power that her dragon assumed when making her kill, and how much she enjoyed that power. It sent a chill down her spine. She really hoped that Calyth came to forgive Hephaeth, but she doubted it. If only she could make her dragons treatment up to Z’is somehow. She looked to him about the time his face was reddening. At least he had decided to follow and not leave her and her green to their devises. She couldn’t blame him if he’d decided to. Calyth was a handful. It looked bad on her that she couldn’t control her sometimes. His smile was forced, anyone could’ve guessed. It didn’t look at all natural. She reached out to lightly touch his arm, trying to express to him that she truly was sorry, and not a bad potential friend.
”Calyth is a loner, most definitely,” Tristen told him truthfully. The green never spoke to anyone besides the male blues, hoping that they’d notice her, and dote on her all day long. Then she’d get fed up with them, or they wouldn’t be as perfect as she wanted, and she’d rage. Goodness, she really had to keep her from flight. Could they get banned from the Weyr if Calyth hurt someone? She pulled her hand away, not having left it there very long. ”I’m sure once we become part of a unified wing he’ll feel a bit better? It really makes it easier to associate with a group of people you’re otherwise designated to.” She wasn’t too sure on that, but for Hephaeth’s sake, she hoped so. ”I haven’t seen you around a lot, of course, I haven’t really been around myself.” She sounded like she was apologizing, or about to. ”Sorry for not having said something to you sooner.”
”Yeah, time might do him some good.” He was asking about training, and it was her turn to blush. She looked away, gazing skyward, and then all around, as if she’d find her answer out there somewhere. ”Well...” she trailed off, blushing faintly. ”I don’t know if you can really consider it training. Calyth thinks she already knows everything, and she doesn’t exactly listen.” Now was one of the times, especially, when she was glad that Calyth was too preoccupied to feel the need to chime in.
She smiled at him genuinely, ”What about you two?”

Z’is just watched the blue worriedly. Hephaeth didn’t seem at all inclined to speak again. He was too mortified at his mistakes that Z’is wondered whether he would ever recover enough to speak with the green again. It wasn’t so much embarrassment as it was now a distinct sort of surliness. Well, at least he could speak with Tristen. Ah… Easier said than done in some ways. Unfortunately, Z’is had never been good at maintaining a proper conversation…
Unfortunately, out of the pair, Hephaeth was the more talkative of the two. Well, he tended to keep Z’is talking through sheer annoyance but in his current state he was unlikely to offer any proper prompts. Instead, the blue was tearing into his meal with relish but the rider could tell it was something of a show. Hephaeth was almost trying to mimic Calyth to make himself feel better.
“No wonder they’re getting along so well…” He said it quietly, looking between the two dragons the faintest smile playing on his lips. It was there for the barest of moments before he nodded, feeling slightly reassured. Yes, hopefully when they were assigned a Wing they would be able to make a few more friends and feel far more comfortable with their station. As it happened, the Weyr was so huge that he had always struggled to find his place amongst it, never feeling comfortable with the Weyrlings. Well, there was always time for that to change. “I was a baker for a few turns. Uh… Searched before Noyth and Vherth’s hatching…”
Z’is ran a hand through his hair anxiously. Perhaps he should have made more of an effort to get to know people… It was certainly worrying that she didn’t seem to have seen him all that often… He nodded in response to her redirected question. Hephaeth wished to prove himself and actually worked very hard. The poor blue would never have the balance to show his flight capabilities, unfortunately…
