S’in was simply smug. And why shouldn’t he be? Being handed that scroll with his promotion on it was like being told he was heir to a Lord Holdership and that he would not get sixteen virgins to deal with as he pleased. Okay, maybe it wasn’t that good… but it was certainly vindicating. All that hard work he and Nemeth had put in was finally beginning to pay off. Not only that, but they had beaten out kings and sub-kings for the spot. As far as S’in was concerned, they all could suck it. Clearly he and Nemeth were much more dedicated, much more suited for the job than they were. He adorned his new knots with all the arrogance he new titled allowed—and then some. He spent some time posing dramatically after he was finished, biding time before his appointment with his new wingleader would draw near. R’len, was it? He seemed like a decent man. Wasn’t he dating that redrider chick? The candidatemaster? Clearly he had determination too. And he had taken on Dalibor’s first ever greenrider wingsecond, which meant he was progressive. All that he knew about the man made S’in as hopeful as a weyrling.
Nemeth, meanwhile, was as implacable as always. Being promoted to wingsecond was simply in the cards for them. It was nothing to feel too prideful about. It was merely what they deserved. They would have to work harder, though, if they wished to make it further in their career. Certainly, Nemeth did wish to go as far as they could. Being promoted to wingsecond suited her, but together they could do so much more. Now they were just being given their chance to prove it.
Stop strutting, S’in. We’re leaving. Her eyes swirled orange with irritation as the green made her way to her ledge. She was going too, of course. Partially she wished to make a respectful visit to her new wingleaders and partially she wished to keep the boy from doing something stupid. He could be so irresponsible when she wasn’t around. She really had no idea what would have become of him without her.
”Keep your panties on… It’s not like we’re late.” S’in strode out to meet her, climbing into place between her neck ridges and securing the riding straps for show before he gave the cue for her to jump. Nemeth surveyed the bowl before she took off from her perch and winged in the direction of the Jr. Weyrleader’s weyr. Being early is a sign of respect. Being on time means we don’t take our job seriously, Nemeth chided with a hiss, ignoring the comment about ladies underwear. He could chide her all he wished about her gender, but he was still inferior to her. It was the one piece of knowledge that kept her from mauling him to death most days.
Nemeth and S’in reporting for duty, requesting permission to land, the green broadcast to the iron Kaezeth as she drew near for a landing. Her voice was stern as always, but respectful. He was her superior and her leader and he deserved nothing less.
After landing S’in undid the straps and confidently dismounted. He bowed to the great iron then strode past proudly, feeling at least a tinge arrogant about his new knots as well as his being named wingsecond to one of the Junior Weyrleaders of Dalibor. ”Weyrleader R’len? I am S’in of Green Nemeth. We’re your new wingseconds. We were told to report to you to get our orders.”

Do land.
Kaezeth rumbled loudly and turned his great, blunt head towards his human's door. Nemeth and Hers are here, he announced, growling and licking his fangs - not out of aggression, but purely out of the juvenile need to make noise. R'len, tucked away at his desk, allowed himself a grin and a glorious stretch before standing. He tugged out a few creases in his breeches and tunic and moved fluidly out into the open weyr.
The iron dragon's posture lifted and straightened as the small green touched down on the ledge. He exhaled loudly and gave a regal snort. R'len, on the other hand, did not look down upon his guests - instead, he was relaxed and gave no indication of being a junior weyrleader aside from, perhaps, his paperwork-induced raccoon eyes. He smiled comfortably because, after all, this was his turf, and he had no intention of making it an unwelcoming one.
"Yes, yes," he said, shaking the greenrider's hand. "It's a pleasure to finally formally meet you. I've mostly been going off of watching you in your exams and drills." Which, really, only showed talent and precision. As for everything else, he was going off of hearsay. "You'll be glad to know that there isn't much more in terms of orders between a wingrider and a 'second. At least, it's not a huge rulebook."
He found a small portion of Kaezeth's flank and gave it an affectionate stroking. "You'll be the replacement me, basically. If I'm sick or otherwise out of commission or get taken out during a Fall, you and A'li take over. During drills, you might lead part of the wing when we split. Really, all I'm asking is that you watch me closely. Take note of everything I do. Learn to be a wingleader, in case you have to be one on short notice." He supplied S'in, then, with a verbal drill schedule, before adding that it was posted down by the firestone supplies anyway.
"I have no doubts about you," he told S'in, "but maybe you have questions? Let me know." [/blockquote]

Nemeth looked up at the larger iron unafraid, but with a healthy respect. He was king, after all. He was king and he was her Wingleader and Weyrleader. And with such a regal greeting from the dragon, it was no wonder Nemeth and S'in alike were surprised by the laid-back nature of the human, R'len. He seemed happy. It was not an emotion either S'in or Nemeth were particularly acquainted with. They felt satisfaction. They felt the pride of a job well done. They even felt the swell of self-importance from time to time. But happiness? Especially happiness that was so blatantly shown? It was a foreign concept. S'in snapped out of his appalled shock just in time to give R'len a firm handshake. This was going to be a lot different than he imagined.
When R'len mentioned his exams and drills S'in raised his eyebrows ever so slightly. While he was certainly an arrogant man, the greenrider had not really expected R'len to have actually watched his exams. Drills, perhaps, for it wasn't like a Wingleader was going to hire a Wingsecond for no reason at all, but his exams? It gave S'in an even greater sense of importance. Not just the Wingleader, but the Weyrleader had watched his final exams of weyrlinghood! Perhaps it was good that Nemeth had pushed them to practice all those times--not that S'in would ever admit that to her.
Everything R'len said made good sense and served to give S'in an even fatter head. Delusions of grandeur? Maybe. But as a part of one of the only greenpairs ever to make Wingsecond? He was sure even Nemeth would agree that not even the sky was their limit. Perhaps... but pay attention, S'in. Everything he says is important. S'in could not agree more. Talk of possibly being a Wingleader tickled his fancy. How could he not pay attention? He paid attention to each mention of the drill schedule, especially the mention of how it was posted by the firestone supplies, and nodded with a tinge of a smile when R'len said that there were no doubts about S'in's and Nemeth's abilities.
"Can't say I ever thought enough about this happening to ever have questions," (yes, he had), "But if I think of any I'll be sure to let you know." It would be a good excuse to meet up with the Weyrleader again, if nothing else. He dipped his head respectfully to R'len, then glanced at Nemeth where she had been waiting patiently while listening to every word. "With your leave, Wingleader?" S'in dared to use the more endearing term, taking a step toward familiarizing himself closer to R'len instead of distancing himself as simply a Wingsecond to a Weyrleader. He gave one of his fashionable smiles that were worn simply for the purpose of others.

"Good, good," R'len nodded. Really, he had no qualms about promoting S'in. He always had faith in the young in and confident. Even he couldn't think of any questions that he, as a hypothetical brand-new wingsecond, would want to ask. He remembered worrying that leading a wing would be some terribly complicated ordeal, but it wasn't. There was a great deal of responsibility, yes, and the need for a tactical mind, but its simplicity was stunning. React accordingly, and ensure your wing knows what you want from them. The flight signals and code were the worst part - but that was taught effectively in weyrlinghood.
He looked at the young man before him and his pale green dragon. He wondered what he had set in motion by choosing a greenrider as his wingsecond. Clearly, Fort would not appreciate it. Fort could not count the issues they had with Dalibor on all their weyrwomen's hands; Roha had cultivated quite a complex disliking for the new Weyr. There had been enough of an unsettling when a cyanrider had been appointed 'second. S'in was the first of his sort to have earned his position. R'len smirked to himself - even his old Weyr, High Reaches, was conservative enough to be ruffled this. He'd been bitten by the Dalibor-brand progressive bug. Oops.
"Yes," he grinned to S'in. "Yes, I'll see you at our next drill. Feel free to stop by any time, of course. I'm busy but excuses to step away from it are good for me." He clapped S'in on the shoulder with a rough and calloused hand. "You have a good day, Wingsecond."
With that, he returned to his work and left the greenpair to depart. Maybe Fort and High Reaches would be upset by this whole event, but R'len was nothing but happy. He was immensely pleased with himself. He felt like a daredevil - a hero - and was nothing but confident in his new wingsecond. He decided, then, that he wanted to celebrate it all going over so well, and sent excited word to his Nimara about it. I'll be on over once I'm done these records, he said to Kaezeth. Tell her that.
And he went about working with a smug little grin. [/blockquote]
