Just before midday, Shiannah was in the process of working on a carving of a pair of dragons that had been curled around eah other. The entire piece would take her several days at the least to get it to the detail that she wanted it to be. She swept her gaze over to her pink dragoness. Myrith was asleep in her couch, her hide shining brightly in the light.
Normally, she would've been up and about at this time, but Shia had been letting her sleep in the past few days. Her Flight was going to be soon, so she could use a bit of extra sleep to keep her energized when the time came. It made her think. Maybe it was about time to start settling down with someone. Maybe time to find a weyrmate. But she had yet to find someone who interested her in that sense, and from what she saw, no one in particular seemed dreadfully interested in her. If they were, then they were hiding it.
Shiannah got so wrapped up in her thoughts that the blade she had been using to carve slipped, and it cut into her finger. Myrith picked up her head to look at her rider, waking from the small jab of pain. Please be more careful next time. The pink said, though her mindvoice held an irritated note to it. "Don't worry, I'll bandage it up real quick." Shiannah got up and walked into her half of their weyr to look for her first aid kit.
Myrith shifted herself, but knew she wasn't going to go back to sleep anytime soon. No, she didn't want to go to sleep. The wind and the sky were calling to her, begging for her lithe form to join them. She stood out onto her ledge. It's too quiet What? her rider responded quizzically. It is too quiet. She repeated. All of Pern is being much too silent. It's time such silence was broken!
Before Shia could react, Myrith rocketed out towards the feedng pens. Come! All who dare chase! Prove your worth to me! she shouted to the entire Weyr. As she landed in the pens, she found a target and pounced upon a buck, breaking its spine. Blood it! Shia reminded her. Myrith growled, but complied without a fight.
She hadn't even finished off the buck, when she leapt back into the air with a roar. As the chase began, Shiannah sat on her bed, the carving on the floor and her finger still unwrapped. But she didn't feel it. She was with her dragon, only barely clinging to her own body for one last moment to glance at those gathering before letting go.
