"Huh? Wha? What time is it? Go away. You stupid Wherryheaded creature get away from me. I don't care what you want. You are able to find food for yourself. Go away and leave me alone." She hissed as the Blue flit continued to try and get her out of bed. He wasn't giving her any kind of images or anything like that, but was rather just harassing her. He seemed to want her out of bed and badly, but didn't seem to be hungry or anything. She gave her pillow one good heaving throw and missed the Blue, but only because he popped between. "You stupid cheating thing. Get back here. If you can harass me then I can harass you. Get back here you sharding creature." She hissed at him again, but he did reappear in the room, and she was ready for him. She lobbed her remaining pillow at him and managed to hit him, but he then started to chitter and carry on, sending her images of eggs and of people entering the sands.

"What's all that about? I thought the queens here didn't let candidates on the sands prior the hatching. Hey get back here." She sighed. He had vanished to faranth only knows where leaving her wondering what was going or what he was going to do or steal. He was always taking things from others to add to his horde of random things. With a huff and a puff she sat up and looked around. Well it seemed she had accidentally overslept and was late for chores, but she climbed out of bed and looked into the hallway to see what was going on and it seemed several other candidates were walking out of the barracks and it seemed toward the sands. She stopped one and asked and sure enough there was a touching going on.

She had a mini panic attack and then rushed back into her room, slamming the door behind her. She then began tossing her clothing all over her room trying to find just the right outfit. She'd try one this top and those bottoms then that pair of pants with another shirt. She sighed, but decided on a harper blue tunic and a light tan pair of tighter trousers. She then stepping into her boots and laced then as quickly as possible.

With a huff she spun out of her room and went down the hallway. Without looking to see if anyone else was in the hallway, well there was and she bumped into a fellow female candidate. She hissed at the girl "Watch where you are going." She spat at her. She then stomped off leaving the other girl standing in shock. Once in the bowl she headed right for the sands and frowned slightly it. Was close to noon, how had she managed to sleep so long? Probably because of how long she'd been doing her chore the day before. Whatever. She needed to clear her mind and smile because she was about to reach the sands and needed to be on her best behavior for when the rider or riders of the females greeted her. She reached the edge of the sands and looked around. A few other candidates were there and then she smiled and hesitated, but then bowed slightly to the rider on duty and then she waited. Having no idea whatelse to do.

Q'sis chewed on the inside corner of his lower lip as he stared up from the Sands at the new Candidate's pants. His stubble on that side undulated slightly, though the action would have hid under a full beard. From her legs, his eyes traveled to her dark, klah-colored face. It was lit with faded freckles. He pondered the possibility of the plague sending Searchriders even among the Holdless, but dismissed the notion. Any trader girl would know enough to wear a work-skirt.

And she didn't have any tribute for him. He'd heard that yesterday there was a girl that brought a tribute. Something hot and tasty, which Valha had neglected to save any of for him. Though he'd been accustomed to food-bringing as a man's position, in that instance it had reminded him of Samael, and left him hungry for more.

But this one had nothing.

"Curtsy properly, then you may come down," he instructed, though he immediately turned to the broiling creche of eggs and how well Anya executed her apology would apparently be left to his imagination. He picked up a cloudy pink egg that both dragon mothers had been ignoring for the better part of the morning and turned it over, using his wrist to check the different sides of the shell. Unath was lying over on the side of the cavern with her back to the brood. The pink egg wasn't too troublesome to turn. It was less than the length of his leg, while its largest siblings stood almost to Q'sis' chest.

He performed the same trick with a nearby dun egg, which he tipped over and rolled to its new position rather than attempting to lift it. He dug out a little black and white egg who'd been buried sometime in the night and leaned it back up against the dun. Then he deigned to look back up at his guest. "Touch what you want," the rider snorted, though he had a mildly resigned look about him. At some point certain riders had allied to indicate that he could not simply run the unworthy- also known as girls -off his Sands, and the consequences had been sufficient not to change his mind but to curb his response.

Besides, standing among the eggs, his primary concern lay in safety, and the rest of his mood remained quite elevated in their presence. It was harder to anger. So he did not confront the girl so much as he prowled the outskirts of her investigation, waiting for an excuse. "Are you Igen?" he inquired. The desert holders sometimes had a deep dusk to their hides, like his own people.

She watched him chew on his lip and frowned slightly, such an unhealthy habit that one. He then made a quip about her curtsying and her frown grew, but she did the best curtsy she could in her pants, which she had noticed him eye balling since she had walked up. What was wrong with pants? Sure a work shirt was nice, but on the hot hot sands pants seemed to be the better item. Plus if she fell pants were better protection. They also would flap up if somehow the heat from the sands created an updraft. Which in her limited knowledge of the hatching sands might just happen.

"I'm sorry about that." she said even once he had turned his back. Oh how rude, but then again he'd been trapped in the hot cavern with not much contact and some men really did expect women to dress a certain way and he seemed to be one of those. Normally she would lay into him with a lecture about women being equal to men and all that jazz, but she didn't think this was the right time. So she just smiled and followed him onto the sands.

She watched as he moved eggs, dug one out, turned some, and moved some again. He then spoke and told her to touch whatever egg she wanted. Well she had ended up closest to the dun colored one so she reached out and held her hand over it. She hesitated for a moment before placing her hand on the warm leathery shell. She smiled as she did her best to send happy warm thoughts to the baby inside. She then pulled her hand off and was about to touch the black and white one when he spoke to her. "Not that I know of, but my family didn't tell me much about them. I was born and raised in the South." She told him before placing a hand on the black and white egg. She kept it there for a while enjoying the feel of the shell under her hand.

The big dun egg had nothing to say back to Anya, but its panda neighbor rustled under her palm, the hatchling inside curling against the shell. Q'sis grit his teeth at the mention of her actual birthplace- and its apparently dubious nature -but said nothing. Unath's head swung backwards from where she lay on her side till her eyes pointed at the activity within the clutch. The mother dragon's jaws moved, but not in any meaningful way, more like the bob of a throat when swallowing. She was masticating the air.

Scratching rang up from a tiny peach-pearl egg not far from the cluster Anya attended. Q'sis went over and bent low to fold his own huge palm over it. The egg settled. "Only another sevenday until they're ready. Most will be taken by you girls, even if they're fighters who would be better served by boys. I don't blame you entirely for that. The Weyr's Searchriders have grown incompetent and desperate after the plague." He picked up the small egg, resting now, and coveted it close to his chest. "But if you fail to death any one of my off, you won't have to worry about taking yourself Between. I will come for you." He replaced the egg, then pointed at the erratic wiggle in a swollen violet specimen. "That one seeks attention. Go pacify him."

The tanrider touched the heel of his palm to his forehead, turning a bit away from the girl. His little threat had not been entirely planned. Maybe the cavern made him heatsick, or Valha needed to rise and relieve him of his watch. But he'd seen worse when he was younger, in that place he'd asked Anya about, and he had not lost his head then. No: his words had been a resolution. Inherently incompetent as they might be, these girls would raise his dragons or they would face consequences.
