You can't touch this!
It was very late afternoon, and Oorth was fast asleep on her weyrledge. If her very matte orange-pink hide was glowing at all, it was noticeable by few. Certainly the Pink was not one to act proddy. Pratyba was trying to teach herself how to juggle. She thought it would be easier to teach herself with something light and floaty rather than hard, round objects, which was why socks kept landing on her head in her attempt to juggle them. It was obvious she had stolen them; they were all different colors and sizes. Some of the smelled quite atrociously, but that didn't bother her in the slightest.
Then, suddenly, Oorth woke up. Hmm. She felt quite queer. She wanted to be up in the sky. No, that wasn't quite right. She wanted to be up in the sky with males. Lots and lots and lots of handsome males! Yes, that sounded wonderful. And she wanted to put them all to shame with her amazing flying skills! Oh, this sounded like so much fun!
Her eyes snapped open and she sprang to her feet, startling Pratyba. The Pinkrider couldn't help but see Oorth's bright purple eyes. "Er, Oorth? Are you Flying?!" Oorth paused, then brightened still more. Oh! I suppose that is what this is called! Yeah, I'm Flying! Oorth squealed with utter delight. She seemed as surprised as anybody that she was Rising. She sprang off of her ledge. She was not going to blood any herdbeasts. First, because she wanted to fly, not eat; second, because she already had plenty of energy; and third, because she was currently unaware that that was the proper thing to do for Flights. The shine on her hide was still subtle, but it was abundantly clear from her trying-very-hard-to-be-seductive body language and her brilliantly purple eyes that she was Rising for her maiden Flight. The Pink circled around the Weyrbowl. She let out a bugle, playful and daring and challenging, but undeniably one of Flight. She would bend some rules and snap others, but some she had to follow, including the calling of the males. Oh, boooooooooys! she trilled alluringly, Who wants to come play? And with that, Oorth was off. Or, at least, she tried to be off. Flying away into the sunset was not as easy as romance tales made it out to be, especially when also trying to look over one's shoulder for possible suitors. CRASH. Oorth, momentarily blinded by the low evening sun and not paying a great amount to where she was going in the first place, collided head-on with the very solid stone wall of the Weyrbowl. Any dragon would be dazed after a crash like that, and Oorth nearly fell into the lake by the time she got her wings back together. But also being Oorth and especially being Oorth with a healthy amount of flightlust running through her veins, she shook off the crash with unnatural ease. She peeled out of the fall and skimmed across the surface of the lake, deciding to go the other direction, away from the setting sun. Meanwhile, Pratyba had completely become Oorth, not that there was much of a difference between them to start. She grinned wildly as her suitors came into her weyr. She was not scared about this Flight, not was she concerned in any sort of manner. She was Pratyba, after all. Nothing worried her! But she was Pratyba no longer; she was Oorth! And now her pretty, lovely boydragons were coming in to try for her attentions! Well, they would have to do more than just stand there if they wanted a piece of this tail! As they came in, she threw the socks at them, three or four apiece. "Juggle!" she shouted happily at them, enjoying bossing them around. Her males would need to have some serious skills if they wanted a chance to catch her! Only the best could juggle and chase at the same time! She trilled again to her males, making sure they knew she was now going this way. It was a much better, sexier direction. She (successfully this time) swooped over the rim of the Weyrbowl and sped off towards the encroaching nightfall. She was not Pern's most graceful or elegant of dragonesses, but agility and speed were her fortes, and she was planning on making her males eat her dust! Catch me if you can! she called out to them again, putting on yet another spurt of speed. Now the games could really begin! Fresh new kicks, advance You gotta like that, now you know you want to dance So move outta your seat And get a fly girl and catch this beat!

My best friend gave me the best advice He said each day's a gift and not a given right Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind And try to take the path less traveled by That first step you take is the longest stride
Ever since his failure the day of Callistath's Flight, Daedalouth had been working, which was odd enough for him, but he had been pouring all of hi strength into preparing for the next Flight. He had his eye on one dragon in particular, one that had made an impression on him that no other dragon could. The Pink beauty, Oorth. She was more than a grand lady, she was a dragon that a male could enjoy spending time with. She was his best friend in all of Pern, and he would be there for her. The Golden Callistath was forgotten as he prepared himself, body and mind, to Chase his true queen.
This time, K'rin was perfectly fine with his dragon Chasing. There was no reason for him not to be. A Pink was much more attainable for him than a Gold, plus, he had some history with this particular Pink and her Rider. They were an interesting pair to be sure and K'rin knew what Daedalouth felt for the Pink. More than a best friend fondness was in his Purple for the strangest Pink in all of Pern. He wasn't surprised when he noticed the subtle change in her hide, the slight glow that was developing as the days passed by. Daedalouth had been preparing for this from the moment he lost the Gold, but today there was no training. For the past few days Daedalouth had been crouched on his ledge, watching the weyr of Oorth and Hers for anything that may have been her Flying.
If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Would you live each moment like your last Leave old pictures in the past? Donate every dime you had, if today was you last day? What if, what if, if today was your last day?
When he saw that flash of pink vault from her weyr, he was in the sky not a moment later. No words were needed between him and His as he followed his friend into the sky. He crooned to her, letting her know that he was there, and almost shot out to catch her when she collided with the weyrbowl and fell. But she caught herself and decided to change directions. Daedalouth grinned and followed, allowing his tongue to loll out of his mouth. This wasn't a formal affair, not like Callistath's Flight. This one would be fun, real, actual fun would be had today, and Daedalouth couldn't wait! He followed her as she left the bowl, shot out beyond the weyr, and called a taunt back to them. The other suitors were invisible as he Chased his best friend through the sky. She wanted speed? He'd show her speed! Not this early of course, he hadn't completely lost his sense, but he kept a reasonable distance from her and matched her speed. Oorth had almost limitless energy, as Daed knew from personal experience. It wouldn't do to waste all of his in the first leg of the Chase and be spent come the end. This would not only be a hard game, this would be a long one, and Daed was ready to play!
Against the grain should be a way of life What's worth the price is always worth the fight Every second counts 'cause there's no second try So live like you're never living twice Don't take the free ride in your own life
When Daedalouth left, K'rin also walked out of their weyr, closed the door behind him, and sped to Pratyba. Daedalouth's lust was strong, but there was more of an excitement in it than there had been the last time, and this excitement bled into His and made him eager to reach Pratyba, glorious, beautiful Pratyba, before any of the others. And so he did. No one else had arrived when he got there. More than just his excitement, Daedalouth's joy leaked into His and brought a grin to his face when he saw her. It wasn't entirely his dragon that made him so eager to see her. He liked Pratyba, more as a friend than as a love, but it made him glad to see her nonetheless. It was the Flightlust that exaggerated those feelings into ones of love and adoration, bringing him to the same place as his dragon. Luckily for him, he wasn't entirely gone when Pratyba chucked socks at them and demanded that they juggle. As it was, he almost took a particularly smelly one to the face before he ducked and caught it behind him. Well, if she wanted them to juggle, juggle he would, he thought as he straightened and grinned crookedly at her. Some of the others might struggle with this skill, doubly so as they split their minds between themselves and their dragons, but K'rin had gotten rather good at it as a young man. It was a skill he had kept up into adulthood, and it was about to pay off. He could feel Daedalouth's amusement at this unexpected turn of events before he focused completely on keeping up with Oorth, and he began to toss the balled up socks into the air and catch them in a smooth motion. Granted, he too was hampered by being partly in the room and partly in the sky, but he was able to manage it with a certain amount of flair.
Their failure at the Flight of the Gold was forgotten as they lost themselves in the moment, both of them thoroughly enjoying themselves for one of the first times in a very long time.
If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Would you live each moment like your last Leave old pictures in the past? Donate every dime you had, if today was you last day? What if, what if, if today was your last day?

We are young Heartache to heartache we stand No promises, no demands Love is a battlefield
We are strong; no one can tell us we're wrong Searchin' our hearts for so long Both of us knowing Love is a battlefield
Lio was starting to come close to being listless with life. He remained active with his duties as Wingsecond to R`len. Lio, no matter what was bothering him, always put his Weyr before him in certain matters. He was trusted with Wingsecond position and he would continue to to show that he was worthy of such a position. But with the recent set of rejection and other things, Lio had become very anti-social. He refused to leave his weyr other than for food or work. He was beginning to look thin, losing sleep from the lack of nutrition and from just staying in his weyr most of the day. Mikidith had become worried about his Rider and was not sure what to do now. He wanted to help his Rider, but it had seemed that Lio had fallen harder than he had ever felt in life before.
You're beggin' me to go, you're makin' me stay Why do you hurt me so bad? It would help me to know Do I stand in your way, or am I the best thing you've had Believe me, believe me, I can't tell you why But I'm trapped by your love and I'm chained to your side
Mikidith had stayed active, though he was not as social as before. This was not from choice. Mikidith spent his days watching over Lio and making sure the man was not going to do something more harmful to himself than he already did. Mikdith worried about Lio`s recent addiction to wine. Every night he would get several glasses of wine and get himself so drunk that he passed out on his cot, in the furs, still in his clothes. Mikidith had even attempted to set up some “blind dates” for the BrownRider so he could find some happiness in life. Lio was not sure anymore. He started to stop believing in the goodness in life. Mikidith could see the man changing. Lio had once had been this bright, happy, just loved life sort of person, never once had a mean word or thought. Now he had become this dreary, lifeless, and hopeless person. He was still kind to others. Meanness was something he was never known for.
We are young Heartache to heartache we stand No promises, no demands Love is a battlefield
Mikdith raised his head up as soon as he heard the call out for another dragon Flight. Mikidith had stopped entering Flights recently, almost giving up because of their past history. It was sad to say that this several Turn old dragon who was older than the Jr. Weyrleader`s dragon had never won a single Flight. Not once. And in the past, the Brown had shrugged it off… until they had come to Dalibor. Mikidith had always himself to become attached to some dragons. His Mine had become attached to some Riders. At the other Weyr, Lio and Miki had never felt these strange tugging inside their hearts as they had at Dalibor. In the end, both dragon and Rider had been left with broken hearts, cast aside not once but three times. Mikidith was concerned about entering another dragon Flight. If he lost, their hearts would break even more from sheer disappointment.
We are strong; no one can tell us we're wrong Searchin' our hearts for so long Both of us knowing Love is a battlefield
Lio looked up and felt a chill crawl down his spine. There was another Flight. Mikidith was taking a little attention to examine the female. But he also felt the dragon`s fear to join the Flight. Who could doubt this big Brown who was nothing but a lovable oaf? The last Pink dragon he had Chased had been Gyth, the dragon that was bound to R`ish. Lio`s heart sank deeply. Gyth has rejected Miki. Annith and Eccolath had reject Miki. Lio had been rejected several times by many Riders. He felt the tears well up in his eyes. Painful memories were coming to him as he seemed to shrink in his seat. Could he take another Flight if the Brown decided to Chase? The dragon had been kind enough not to join any of the recent Flights, especially the Queen Flights. But now this Pink dragon had caught his attention and Lio feared and knew what might be coming next.
We're losing control Will you turn me away or touch me deep inside And before this gets old, will it still feel the same There's no way this will die But if we get much closer, I could lose control And if your heart surrenders, you'll need me to hold
He was right. Mikidith turned his head and looked at his Rider, his eyes starting to fill with purple dragonlust that was coming over him. He crooned lightly, feeling his Rider`s fear and sadness in him alongside the feelings that were rising from a desire to Chase this cheerful, energetic, and wonderful Pink. Maybe this Pink, Oorth, could renew in him the positive feelings he had for Pinks once before Gyth`s Flight. Mine, I want to Chase. Please. I will Chase for us both. I will try my best. Let me have this chance. How could Lio ever say no to his dragon? Lio was a strong person, but he could never say no to his Brown when the dragon only meant good in his life. He closed his eyes, wiped away the tears, and stood up, taking a deep breath. Go! he said, turning to leave his weyr and make his way to Pratyba`s weyr.
We are young Heartache to heartache we stand No promises, no demands Love is a battlefield
Mikdith bugled, letting Oorth know that he was joining in on the Chase, the fun, the Flight. This Pink did not blood. She did not need to. She was so energetic that she was going to allow her own natural energy guide her through the skies. She also had a desire to just fly. Well, he would fly with her. He was Mikdith, a Brown of the skies. He loved adventure, to have fun, and enjoy life. She seemed a perfect fit for him. She would be fun. Never dull. Always a comfort in life whenever the skies let loose their waters. He bugled to her and crooned to her. He was not going to lie to her. He told her of his plight and told her of his desires. He wanted happiness in life. She was happiness. Would she allow him the honor of being his happiness? He promised to be there for her, to join her in anything she wanted, to make her happy. But the decision was going to be left up to her. He pumped his wings. There was already another sub-King dragon there, a Purple, who was calling out to her. He had to try. He wanted happiness in life, for him, for Lio, for her, and even for her Rider.
We are strong; no one can tell us we're wrong Searchin' our hearts for so long Both of us knowing Love is a battlefield
Lio took deep breaths as he allowed Mikidith`s feelings to guide his down to Pratyba`s weyr. There was already another man here. As he rounded the corner, he saw her. The first thing he thought to himself was that she was beautiful. No, this was not dragonlust coursing through him. Any woman who was beautiful he acknowledged. Each woman was beautiful in their own ways. Pratyba beauty was wild and enchanting. Her dances seemed to be in step whenever her dragon`s wings flapped and moved her through the sky. Then something crossed his vision as he reached out to grab it. It was a sock. Why was there a sock in his hands? Then he heard her call out to them, telling them to juggle the socks as a few more were thrown at him. She was different. He liked it. He felt a little happier already to be around someone so different and yet so full of life. Where had his happiness in life gone? He hoped he could retrieve it again in this Flight.

The waiting blue was a stark contrast to the Rising pink.
Where Oorth was all energy and joy, Eondith was silent; calculating. He watched her every move carefully. Everything about him was completely still, building up the energy for when he needed it. His intentions were far too impersonal, though. He wanted Oorth solely for her body, and not for her mind. He would not argue his point, but if he did, his grounds would be simply primal. That was all it was, and all it needed to be. Dragons flew to mate. Dragons mated for the sake of mating. Humans, on the other hand, mated to love. It was a whole different matter. He didn't need to have a deeper, more emotional connection to it. His body wanted this. Both he and Oorth were welling up with flightlust, and that was all that mattered. Oorth's crash didn't even compute with him. That didn't matter. Only the flightlust did.
He didn't bother to warn R'fus - his rider already knew. As Oorth began her Flight and Eondith followed, silent as the deepest darkest corners of the lower caverns, R'fus acted the opposite. He was still. Rigidly still. He knew how Eondith was, what with all the chasing, but usually it didn't bother him. It was bothering him now, though. He knew exactly why, too. Kio. Sharding Kio. Everything was sharding about Kio now, and he was in denial about it. It was wrong, it was weird, it was just... stupid. Plain stupid. The impossibility of such an asshole having such an influence on his life was appalling. It wasn't happening. It just couldn't be, because it was impossible. However, this 'impossible' event was keeping him in his room. He didn't want to leave. He'd stay there, deal with the flightlust by himself if he had to, and that was that. He... wanted Kio. That's it. Oh, Faranth damn it. "Yer such a baby," he snarled to himself, and got up and left. Staying was ridiculous and only confirmed what he was trying to disprove.
He didn't go into Pratyba's weyr, though. He stayed just outside the door, pressed up against the cold stone wall. He didn't really want to go in. He didn't really want Eondith to win. This was odd, though, because he was used to it. He was used to Flights and what they entailed, but somehow this was eating him up. Rhyolith's Flight hadn't done this to him, even. Why? It was too confusing. Too confusing-- oh. There he went. He was Eondith, now. Entirely Eondith.
The blue pushed himself. Oorth, the sole object of his strongest desires, was ahead of him and gaining speed. It wouldn't do to fall behind. His chances would be ruined, then. He had to keep up with the rest of the pack, which was currently a purple and a brown. The fact that both outranked him didn't matter. This wasn't about endurance or power. Oorth was fast. It was about speed. As the smallest of the current three, Eondith had a bit of an advantage, or so he'd like to think. He was a blue. He was the balance between stamina and agility. He could catch her.
He would. [/blockquote]

Cold on a mission so fall them back Let 'em know that you're too much And this is a beat, uh, you can't touchOorth continued to zip forward, very much enjoying this game of chase the dragoness so far! She was never a serious dragon, and the Pink had not a single vicious bone in her body. She had no intention of hurting any of her suitors should they not come up to snuff, nor of thoroughly testing them and making a logical, calculated decision. She was a joyous, free-spirited dragon. Lust was coursing through her body, but as of yet, it was fairly controlled. The urge to play was warring with her urge to mate, but even Oorth knew that she needed to fly a while longer before choosing her victor. She didn't want to choose yet, though! She was having much too fun with the dragons that had decided to Chase her!
There were three of them, so far. Purple Daedalouth was the first to answer her call. She recognized him immediately from their day at the lake, and she greeted him with a happy squeal. They were friends! And here he was to play with her again! Did she want him as her winner, though? Well, he had as good a chance as any, if he flew well! But why was she thinking so far ahead? She was just going to enjoy his presence now! She'd deal with later, well, later!
Second was a Brown she recognized but didn't know as well as Daedalouth. She knew he had been at Dalibor for as long as she could remember! Why had she not met him? Well, she was meeting him now! What was his name? It took her a moment... flying and trying to remember names at the same time was very hard work! Mikidith! That was it! And he was a Wingsecond, too! (She was quite proud of herself for remembering that.) How nice to have him here! She needed to see what he could do!
The third dragon was a Blue whose name she had no chance of remembering. But she was just as happy to have him here as the other two! She was happy to have all of her males! He was impressive so far, small and speedy like her! But she was done just looking at her males and going fast to elude them. She was more creative than that!
They were flying over the wild forest of the western continent now. Oorth ducked lower, brushing the tops of the trees. Then, she gave another encouraging bugle to her males before slipping into the forest itself. She was tiny compared to the males, but, even in the waves of desire that clouded her already-faulty judgment, she made sure to only pick paths that were feasible for even the two big sub-Kings. Games like this were no fun when half of the players couldn't participate because they were born a little bigger than most! Who said she just because she was running a contest that she couldn't be considerate?
Pratyba-Oorth only saw two suitors, but she knew she had three! Where was the third? She grinned happily at Mikidith and Daedalouth before looking around her weyr for her third. She could not let him miss out on the festivities! Finally, she looked just outside of her weyr, where she saw Eondith. There he was! "Silly, you're missing the fun!" she said cheerily before grabbing his hand and attempting to pull him into her weyr. She wanted to make sure the other two knew she hadn't deserted them, though! Pratyba-Oorth danced first to Mikidith, then to Daedalouth, and placed a quick kiss on each of their cheeks, but she was careful to bounce away before they could react. She didn't want them to catch her yet!
The Pink ducked and weaved between the trees, obviously quite at home. Every tree was a wonderful obstacle that presented a new challenge for her suitors and a chance to show off herself! Lithe and agile as she was, she cruised easily through the course she had laid out for herself and her males, but they had no chance of catching her here! Nope, Oorth was nowhere near her decision yet! But, she was getting claustrophobic in here, fun as it was! It was time to get back where they could all stretch their wings! Oorth suddenly darted upward and pushed several branches out of her way in her haste to get out of the forest. If the other males weren't careful, those branches were going to snap back and smack them right on the nose!
She burst out of the forest and flew upwards for a while, relishing the bite of the nippy evening air on her hot hide. However, she soon grew bored of simply going up, so she turned around and shot downwards once more, skimming just over the heads of her males. Satisfied she had thrown them for a loop, she suddenly boomeranged upwards once more and shot off with all the speed of a perfectly fresh dragon. She was young and fit, and she was Oorth. Her energy was indefatigable. Give me a song or rhythm Making 'em sweat That's what I'm giving 'em Now they know You talk about the Pinkpair, You're talking about a show!

He was probably far too serious about this. He was far too serious about everything, really. Anything Eondith did was done with a purpose. Otherwise, it wasn't worth his time. He wasn't playing around here. Oorth might be, but the blue definitely wasn't. He was dead serious. Even with two sub-kings as his opponents, there was nothing in his mind that hinted that it was useless or futile. He was smaller - he had speed. They were large and had stamina. They'd just have to see which was more important.
The forest barely registered to him. He didn't hesitate at all. Wherever Oorth went, he followed, swift and careful like his small, streamlined body allowed for. The trees in his way weren't fun. They were just a challenge. It seemed, though, that Oorth was specifically darting through places big enough for the brown and purple that also followed, which just made it even easier for Eondith. He liked being small. He liked being fast. The best way to do anything important was to do it quickly.
Back near Pratyba's weyr, R'fus-Eondith had been found out. The human's thoughts stirred briefly - worried and reluctant ones - but the dragon was the dominant personality. This was Oorth's rider. His should follow her. The cheer in Pratyba-Oorth's voice did not go unnoticed. It was rather unexpected, actually. He wasn't exactly used to dealing with such happy personality types. It was actually a little refreshing, but it's not like R'fus-Eondith's face would show it, and nor would his voice. Just like the dragon, the rider was silent and serious. He simply allowed himself to be dragged inside the weyr, reacting no further than that.
Eondith's lightning-fast reflexes proved a bit of a drawback. Oorth had rocketed upward and he was quick to follow. The same went for when she dove back down and then climbed back up again. It had slowed him down, really, and he probably looked ridiculous, switching direction of flying so quickly. Briefly, his teeth were bared in a snarl at his own delay. Oorth knew what she was doing, so her switches were swift. Eon, on the other hand, was left to react only after she did. It had put him behind.
No matter, though. It's not like he would let it get to him. When she was flying decidedly upward, he followed suit, wings propelling him upward. There wasn't room for self-pity in a Flight. There was only room for determination. He just had to follow. He had to. He wouldn't let himself do anything else. All he wanted was Oorth. His mind and eyes fixated on her, Eondith pushed himself. There was no way he would go out without a spectacular, passionate fight. [/blockquote]

Y’nis, as it usually seemed to happen, suffered a rather rude awakening at the hands of his bonded. The two had been dozing in the Weyrbowlpeacefully before, quite suddenly, Y’nis found himself thrown off of Yusriyath. Yuuuuuu! What the shards, man? Y’nis whined, rubbing his rump. Going from your tummy to the ground in two flickers of a candlemark is so not fun! But Yusriyath was not paying attention to his. The first thing that had gotten his attention (and woken him from his sleep) was a large shower of rocks from somewhere above. It had jolted the Purple awake and thrown his rider into the grass, but the pain now seemed unimportant as he stared up at the beautiful streak of Pink that was zooming away into the sky. Y’nis sighed dramatically as his bonded’s eyes began to match his hide. She is so pretty Mine! Did you see her glow!? Yu cried, rising to his haunches and flapping his wings with excitement. I have to chase her!! he bugled as he threw himself acrobatically into the sky and began to pursue. It was all a game for him, as it always was, but he would be the most enthusiastic, willing participant around.
As Y’nis hobbled to Pratyba’s wey, bottom throbbing, Yusriyath quickly made up for lost time. Joyriding was his hobby and speed was his main asset. If the flight was not interesting however, he was in danger of drifting off, flying ahead just to fly or straying away to be entertained by something else. This flight seemed promising, though. As soon as he reached the trio of followers, the Pink beauty that lead them dove down into the trees. What a fun game! Yusriyath had done this many times before in the wilderness. He sighed as he wove through the trees, feeling the foliage breeze across his hide. Being a Renegade was perfect for him. He craved this feeling of freedom and excitement. Who was this daring dragoness that challenged them to such adventures? He had to know. He had to see her!
Snaking forward and bypassing his suitors, he finally saw Oorth’s radiant Pink hide flashing through the trees before him, the same Pink to which he had opened his eyes. He bugled excitedly to announce his presence. He was late, yes, and a Renegade, but was that was how he rolled, and he didn’t care enough to change it for anyone!
When Oorth shot up he followed smartly, narrowly avoiding the snapping branches and only doing so because he had such experience in the wilderness. He had been smacked with branches MANY times before. Up he followed, marveling in her wake. How pretty! Up and up- he bet he could go higher! Seized by the challenge, he pumped his wings and surged forward with a huff, blood pounding with adrenaline. He began to call to her again and then backwinged in surprise when she turned and almost smacked into him, letting out a squawk instead. Confused for only a moment, losing his place in the process for sure, he growled, smiling if ever a dragon could, and shot off after her. He couldn’t guess what would happen next, so he was interested. So interested. He trilled with glee as he followed, cutting the wind. Oorth, master of the skies!

Mikidith bugled happily when she took notice of him. He never really expected females to notice him anymore. Not with the recent developments in his life, he did not blame females for not looking his way. But she looked at him! But she also looked at the Purple and the Blue. The Purple and the blue were very flashy with their stark, bright colors than his chocolate colored hide. He was a dull and as brown as dirt. The Purple and the Blue had at least some color in them that made them attractive. What chance did he have? He had courage! He had gentleness! He had compassion! He was adventurous if given a chance! And he was just a big oaf that was a bit laid back, but in a good way that made others relax. He wanted to be the dragon that Oorth could hang around with and, if the mood strikes her, to go off on adventures with her. He was ready! He was Mikidith!
Hello, Diary. It has been a while. Life has been tough, but I am holding on. No one said it would be easy, and I believed them. I just never understood how it got so far.
Another dragon entered into the fray. Another Purple, and a brightly colored one too. Miki`s heart began to sink a little. How could he stand out? How could he, a dull colored dragon, stand out to this bright and gorgeous Pink? As his mind was trying to think of ways to impress her, she ducked into the trees of the forest below. Determined to keep up with her until he had a plan, he turned his wings slightly to allow himself to glide down into the forest and followed the Pink Queen. The tips of his wings hit branches, causing little cuts to appear on his wings and wing tips. A little bit of ichor began to show, but it was like a paper cut to a dragon: The ichor stayed in the small wounds and never bled out. Miki ignored the small pains as they were nothing compared to the bigger pain inside him.
I flew today. The gray clouds called out to me. I wanted to see beyond them. There are no blue birds or rainbows like the song. What I saw was something I never knew.
Lio`s eyes watched as Pratyba danced away from him and K`rin. In his hands he was trying to juggle the socks the best that he could. The socks were just too soft and too light that they often fell on his head, his shoulders, and his arms. Every now and then he got something going, but only for a minute until a sock decided to move in another direction. Then he noticed Pratyba moving further away. Where was she going? His eyes changed to that concerned look for a minute until she reappeared. But this time she had another male behind her. And there was a second arriving. He recognized the last Rider as one of the previous Renegade Riders. As much as he was filling up with jealousy, Lio knew that they all deserved a chance and that this Flight could end up anyones.
I saw the world today. It was big, blue, and bright. There were billions and billions of bright lights. Each light signified a life that existed. I wonder how brightly I shine.
Oorth had pulled up and back into the skies after feeling claustrophobic. Mikidith, though not as fast as a Blue, made the turn upwards with the best of ease as he could. He was already a little far behind, what with one of the Purples in front of him. Ah, Oorth, she was pretty. But she was not going to put up with one dragon who said that a female was pretty to every female. Mikidith had never won a Flight, so, again, it was never unknown what would happen to him should he win one? Sure he would be devoted to that female, but what did that really mean? That he would hold her forever in his heart and still go Chasing OR would he actually settle and stop Chasing if he found a female that considered him worthy. He was not sure and there was no way or knowing until the first thing happened, which was the hopeful and entertaining idea that a female (particularly Oorth in this moment, which he hoped in a great deal that she would choose him) would choose him as her mate.
It got cold today. The sun had ducked below to shine on the other side. I came back down to the ground. The dirt never felt so hard below my feet. But I left my soul in the sky.
Mikidith suddenly had an idea. It was going to put him behind, but maybe it would make him stand out. He bugled, calling for her attention and the attention of the males if they so desires. He brought his wings closer to his body and tilted his head up, making for the sky and the clouds. He found one cloud and began to move around it as much as he could. He weaved in and out of it, making holes in the white pillow. He pushed his wings, pushed his strength, and tried his best at his plans. When he finished and made his way away from the cloud, they holes that he had made in the cloud resembled the outline of a heart. Not a perfect heart, but the best that he could. He returned to the group of males, but flew above them, and hoped that maybe his little stunt would be noticed.

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go So make the best of this test, and don't ask why It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time
When Oorth acknowledged him, Daedalouth called back to her with a happy rumbling sound. She was glad to see him! She was happy he was there! How could he lose now? She was gorgeous and no one else was good enough for her, no one else knew her, no one else had spent time with her and played with her and had fun with her. He was the one she knew, and he would be the one to win in the end. All he had to do was not mess this up.
He stuck close to her as she lowered to skim the trees, tongue still hanging out of his mouth as he followed after her like a lovesick puppy, and followed as she went down to move among the trees. A moment of worry flickered through his mind, what if he couldn't fit the places that she wanted to go, but it was gone in a flash. Of course beautiful, brilliant Oorth would pick places that everyone could fit. Another Purple showed up as they weaved through the trees, but Daedalouth just saw it as someone else who would show Oorth just how good for her he was. Now she could even compare him against another Purple and see that even among his own color, he was a cut above the rest.
K'rin continued to juggle his socks with a stupid grin on his face as he alternated the heights to which he tossed the socks. He was getting just as much enjoyment out of this Flight as his Purple for once. It was slightly difficult to keep from dropping something as he juggled, but he was managing. He came dangerously close to losing it as Pratyba skipped over and planted a kiss on his cheek, escaping before he could react. His face changed from a grin to a shocked expression as he faltered with his juggling, nearly dropping one of the socks in his surprise. As he regained his balance and got the rhythm of the movement going again, his grin returned. It was so like Pratyba to tease them like this, and he was loving it.
Daedalouth followed close to keep that bright pink hide in view as they weaved among the trees. Nothing would keep him from Oorth, not a tree and not any of these other males. When she suddenly shot up out of the trees, he was right on her heels, and earned a whack from the branches. However, he took it in stride and simply continued to follow as she went straight up. She surprised him again as she shot back down right over his head, making him turn hurriedly to follow. He could feel the beginnings of strain in his wings, but it would be some time yet before it actually caused him any trouble in his chase. Daedalouth simply knew that he had to take it back a notch, following at a safer distance so that he wouldn't waste energy continuing on the incorrect course while his beautiful Pink Oorth went somewhere else. She shot back up and this time he wasted nothing going the wrong way and followed. She was making this just as much fun as he had expected it to be, and it wasn't over yet. Knowing her, it would be a while yet before she made her choice. He couldn't wait.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right I hope you had the time of your life

She continued to evade them, flying upwards for a while, then darting off to the side or switching directions every now and then to throw them off. But a change had come over Oorth. She no longer regarded her males strictly as playmates. She was beginning to look at them like the suitors they were. An urge was growing inside of her to pick just one of them, and she would pick only the best of the bunch. This had been, hopefully, a more fun and enjoyable competition for all of them than normal, but she was fooling no one. It was still a competition. Her neck was almost permanently craned so she could look over her shoulder and behind her, watching the males' every move.
Eondith was the first to emerge from the forest. He was the quickest, but he was still not as quick as her! He wouldn't be allowed to catch her, yet. Perhaps he hadn't been the smartest, following so close and making it nearly impossible to react to her switchbacks in good time, but she didn't need smart. He was determined, and he pushed himself as close to her as possible. He knew how to play tag! You didn't wait for your quarry to get tired and slow, you flew as fast as they did and tried to catch them! She trilled approvingly back at him, praising him for his speed and intiative.
Then, she heard another bugle. It was strange; she didn't recognize it as belonging to any of the three that were here so far. She looked around, and immediately the dragon's shockingly bright purple hide drew her attention to him. She vaguely remembered him. She knew of him, but she didn't know him. Well, then! Another new friend for her to make! Fortunately for Yusriyath, Oorth didn't remember him being a renegade, and also fortunately for him, she didn't particularly care about tardiness. She was just happy that he was here now! And he was impressive so far, he made up ground fast and paid her a very nice compliment! She bugled a welcome to him, praising him for his spontaneity and his kindness.
A more familiar Purple dragon drew her attention next. It was Daedalouth, and, like Yusriyath, he was clearly enjoying himself. He had followed her doggedly this whole time, but he still recognized it as the game it was. And she knew him. She liked him. They were friends. She knew that he was fun and sweet, so maybe she should pick him? But she didn't know if she wanted to pick him! She just didn't know! All of them were so wonderful! She didn't want to have to pick yet! But when she did, she would definitenly keep Daedalouth at the forefront of her mind. He had earned her attentions and already proved to be a good dragon. She crooned again at him, praising him for his loyalty and playfulness.
Then, another bugle drew her attention to the last dragon of the bunch, who she just noticed had somehow got left behind. It was the Brown, Mikidith! How had he fallen back so badly? Then, she noticed he had not fallen back, he had chosen to stay behind. She watched him carefully as he dove in and out of the clouds, though half of her mind was still intent on avoiding her other three suitors. When he finished, she squealed loudly and nearly flew into his wings right then and there. He had made a heart for her! How sweet and wonderful! But while he had obviously won her favor, she was not quite done yet. She didn't want her decision to be premature! But she simply adored what Mikidith had done. She bugled to him, making sure her voice carried over to where he was, praising him for his risk-taking and his creativity.
Oorth's human half almost ignored Eondith, as he was being boring! However, she was delighted by a new arrival, Yusriyath's human! She darted behind him and half-hugged, half-tackled, all-glomped him from behind, but before he had a chance to whip around and catch her, she had danced off again, out of reach. She blew another kiss at Mikidith before seizing Daedalouth's hands and dancing with him for a moment, making him twirl her. But then she was gone again. She hadn't chosen yet! She was still playing with her males!
The light was fading fast now; it would soon be night. Oorth was getting slightly bored of plain tag, since it was clear none of them could catch her! She was very, very near her decision, as even she was having difficult ignoring how tired she was getting. But she wouldn't let that bother her! They still had time for a quick game of hide-and-seek before she chose one of them! Oorth darted into one of the dark clouds, rising ever higher. She trilled and crooned to her males every few seconds, coaxing and encouraging them, making sure none got lost while searching for her. The Pink slipped from one cloud to the next.
The Flight was drawing to a close. It was time for her males to bring their all to the game and win now! Mikidith had set the bar high. Could any of the others leap over it to reach her heart? She was sad that she would soon have to say good-bye to three of her lovelies, but also elated that one of them would momentarily be hers!

Daedalouth followed his Pink Oorth beauty through the sky, turning it up a notch as he barrel-rolled and flipped in the air behind her, trying to get her attention. From his new position among the pack he was better able to respond to her changes in direction and had time to use his agility and show her what he could do. But someone else had decided to do something to get her attention, and she was liking that better. Now was the time to get serious. Anyone could make a heart in the clouds. It wasn't that hard. It took true skill to make an actual picture. He darted through the sky, making lines in the clouds as he moved, drawing something better that Oorth would like more than the silly heart of the Brown.
Once it was done, he followed after that brilliant pink hide and the sound of her calls. She was making them find her now, changing the game from tag to hide and seek. How fun! But Daedalouth was beginning to get tired. He had to push, straining to keep up. Using all of his strength, he followed her at the same speed as before, when he had been directly behind her as they darted through the trees. He pushed and willed his muscles to use every last ounce of strength to keep him in contention. It would take more than a picture of her drawn in the sky to convince Oorth that he was enough. He had to stay in the game until the end. He would be there for Oorth to choose. If he could just make it she would pick him and they would fall from the sky, twined together in love. As long as he was there, she would choose him.
K'rin was having the same problem as his dragon. The juggling was making him tired. Luckily, Pratyba solved that problem by grabbing and dancing with him. They twirled for a moment, and then she was gone again, leaving him off balance from their brief contact. It seemed to him that she had made the most contact with him, giving him the idea that maybe Daedalouth was right and Oorth would pick him. He hoped that she would. Pratyba was beautiful in a way that was so different from any other woman he had known. It was an inner beauty that radiated, screaming "Look at me!" in a way that could not be ignored. He leaned against a wall of her weyr and sighed as he watched her move. He was being hopelessly romantic, just like Daed, but it wasn't as if he could help himself. His mind was more dragon than man and the lust was taking control. He wanted this Flight to end, to know who was the winner, to be the winner. He didn't just want it for himself, he wanted it for Daed. He wanted it for both of them.

She had trilled to him! Eondith felt something swell in his chest. It was a warm feeling, like heated syrup in the morning or a soft summer day. The poetry came from his human half, he supposed. Anything ridiculous like that was always R'fus' area - Eondith would have no such association with useless things like that, unless he had a right and proper reason to. He got very little joy out of doing things for nothing. Sometimes, though, he would do seemingly useless things, but that's only because he would have invented a solid reason for it on his own. Currently, he was inventing one such reason.
The brown obviously had a leg up right now. Eondith had only spared one fleeting glance at Mikidith's cloud handiwork, because it would do no good to give any more attention than that, but it was obviously Oorth was infatuated by it. That put the blue on edge. Most flights were purely about speed and strength. This one, however, was turning into an art contest and he wasn't going to be the only one who missed out on it. Unlike Mikidith, who did it out of the blue, and Daedalouth who followed out of competition, Eondith was left to follow out of trend. It was what everyone was doing. If he did not take part, he would slip down and rank. He was already lower as it stood, being blue while the others were all sub-kings.
It was just logical to show off, too.
So he acted. He was the fastest, thanks to his size. He could afford to lose a bit of his lead. He could make it back up. With all the energy in his chest pent up from staying silent the entire flight, he let loose a carefully controlled whistle, in a short little melody. With one powerful thrust from his wings, careful maneuvering, and a twisting body, he spiraled his body through a loop-de-loo before tucking his wings and dropping at a forty-five degree angle. At first, it seemed like suicide, but Eondith knew what he was doing. He had planned it out. He did everything with purpose.
Eyes darted around the trees. It was late autumn, and most leaves had fallen to make way for winter. However, a few trees still clung to their precious ambered leaves, and that was Eondith's goal. Swiftly passing by, he snapped up a branch in his jaws. With the speed he was playing at, it came free immediately, though with a bit of a lurch. Immediately he climbed again, pushing himself to his utter limits to win the lovely lady his heart so beat for. Behind him, the leaves from the branch between his teeth streamed out in a ribbon of orange and red. They were all gone fast, and hopefully the effect had been seen, but he wasted no more time. Dropping the unnecessary weight that was the branch, he pushed up to fall in with the other suitors.
R'fus-Eondith seemed like he was beginning to relax. It was hard to tell, for at first the signs were faint, but the infectious energy Pratyba-Oorth was radiating was getting to him. Eondith's addition to the festival of stunts in the air was also affecting him. He felt a little lighter, a little less bogged-down by all his fickle worries, and a little happy. However, the faint smile that emerged and the soft eyes that followed Pratyba-Oorth did not compare to anyone else's happiness. He was still partly Eondith, of course, and Eondith was all concentration. His body fueled his every move. He lusted for Oorth like his life depended on it. Briefly, too, his mind interjected and pointed out that it would be good for His, as well. No one knew R'fus' stress like Eondith, and the blue knew how ridiculous it was. It wasn't necessary. He needed to let loose of his tension. What better way than this?
So he flew. He may not have been the flashiest in colour, or the biggest or the highest ranked, or the cutest, but he flew. He had speed and agility on his side, with a nice dose of stamina, and a small streamlined body. He could do this. The only question was whether or not Oorth would take him, but he was hoping with all of his being that she would. He could barely contain this need for her. Though he was silent, his heart sang for her. Every beat of it was for her. Every pump of his wings was for her. He, in his entirety, was for her, if she would have him. [/blockquote]

Y’nis’ hike to Pratyba’s weyr from the Bowl had begun grumpily but quickly excelled. Yu was having fun in the air so Y’nis found himself practically skipping to the Pink Rider’s room. The sight that awaited him was chaos. Pratyba’s room was unkempt and full of Riders attempting to juggle- what were those? Socks? Had he worn shoes very often Y’nis would have been suspicious, but instead he was delighted. At at least some point all of the Riders were failing miserably. Smelly balled up socks rolled across the room and Riders precariously balanced the rest. Some of them weren’t half bad. But the thing that completed the scene was Pratyba herself- dancing around and directing the chaos. She flitted from person to person, encouraging and flirting and jumping away. She spotted him in no time flat and before he knew it she was behind hi, jumping or hugging or some type of glomping him in welcome. A wide, goofy grin covered his face. He whirled around to get her back but she was gone, off to the next fellow. Y’nis entered willingly now, delighted with the unorthodox situation he had stumbled into. Go get her, Yu, and keep her in the sky. This is crazy fun!
Yusriyath agreed. One dragon had emerged from the forest before him, but he was unabashed. Yusriyath wasn’t worried about such a trivial thing as his place in line. Like Oorth, he craned his head to watch Mikidith. What was he doing? Making a heart in the clouds? Yusriyath roared his approval for his contender’s daring move, thinking it exciting and fantastical despite the fact that it surely counted against him and the others. What a good idea! He wanted to do it too. Yusriyath almost lost his focus and veered off towards Mikidith’s clouds, but a call from Oorth recaptured his attention. Oh yeah!
As if in response to Yusriyath’s whims, the beautiful Pink beacon of his eye shot up into the clouds. Practically beside himself, Yusriyath put on speed and rocketed after her. He was not tired yet- there were many a time when he had had to fly away to survive. Besides, he was not focused on such trivial things as fatigue. Thinking about it always made it worse anyway. Breaking into the clouds was blinding but refreshing. The moisture in the air and the sun in between their fluffy playthings made his already flamboyant hide obnoxiously bright to the eyes. The thrill of the chase (and the chase itself) was enthralling. Trilling and trumpeting, Yusriyath looped and dive and spun in maniacal circles. In the clouds and out again. The game of tag was still on and Oorth was it, but she was looking back. He called out to her again, flapping his wings to fly ever closer. Faranth, she was a fast one! How wonderful a playmate.
Yu! You need to impress her if you want to win, Y’nis reminded him from the ground, now romping around Pratyba’s weyr like it was home. Picking up lost sock balls her hurled them cheerily at his competitors. Oh yeah, impress her! Yusriyath forgot to do that a lot, all too often getting caught up in the moment. Maybe that was why he never won... Casting his eyes about absentmindedly he searched for something to do. The others were making shapes in clouds and flying bravely, but who needed to compare. Seeing a small, puffy cloud up ahead, an idiotic idea struck him and he zoomed forward. The cloud was going down. As he approached he opened him maw wide- wide as it could go- and the cloud rushed in. Snapping his jaw shut he swallowed it whole. Good, right? Back on the ground Y’nis began to laugh hysterically. That was Yusriyath’s talent then, making people laugh. Brilliant.

I feel a hunger It's a hunger that tries to keep a man awake at night. Are you the answer? I shouldn't wonder when I feel you whet my appetite With all the power you're releasing It isn't safe to walk the city streets a Anticipation is running through me Let's find the key and turn this engine on.
Mikidith soared above the rest of the males, watching Oorth as she turned around and saw his work of art. She thrilled happily, thoroughly pleased with what he had done. He had won favor in her heart! Mikidith bugled with happiness, glad to see that Oorth could see that he meant it for her and that he really was a lover. Aw, what a darling Pink. She was already beginning to renew something deep inside him. Something he had not felt in a long time. Maybe it was that feeling of being negligence. He had Chased so many times, showing his heart, but always being rejected in the end. This time he had went out on a limb for Oorth, Oorth the dragonese who was pure in action. He had worn his heart on his sleeve and shown her, hoping she would accept him for who he was and maybe together they would find happiness in each other.
I can feel you breathe I can feel your heartbeat faster. Take me home tonight! I don't want to let you go till you see the light! Take me home tonight! Listen honey Just like Ronnie sang: Be my little baby!
The other male dragons began to move. Daedalouth moved and made a dragon in the clouds. Eondith made a ring out of leaves. Yusriyath at a small cloud in his mouth. The sight of this annoyed Mikidith greatly, but he did not show it. The other dragons, except Eondith, had stolen his idea to try to Impress Oorth! The question was if Oorth was going to accept this! But Mikidith, despite his anger at the other dragons for stealing his idea to use as their own, hoped that his heart in the clouds would impress Oorth. A heart was a symbol of love, a love that Mikidith was willing to give to her if she wanted it. The heart was the holding cell of love, a love that Mikidith wanted to experience with Oorth. He crooned to her, letting her know that he was willing to give her his love (not the same love as he did for his rider, but something that rivaled it) completely if she wanted it.
I get frightened in all this darkness I get nightmares I hate to sleep alone I need some company A guardian angel to keep me warm when the cold winds blow! I can feel you breathe I can feel your heartbeat faster. . . . Be my little baby!
While the other male dragons were swooping and flying around, Mikidith had moved up again. But he had not done this to get an advantage. It had just happened. He had to figure out what he could do to further impress Oorth. He had to think. Oorth was very energetic, beautiful, wild, and amazing! He needed to show her that he was worthy to be her mate! He would go on adventures with her. He would do crazy things with her. He would do loop-de-loops in the sky with her. Wait! That was it! He had to show her that he was worthy. He flew back up into the sky, gaining height, and tucked his wings in as he began to dive. To other males, the dive might seem as an attempt to catch Oorth, but when he flew by her, giving her enough space, it was obvious that it was a bit suicidal! But half-way in mif-dive, he arched his back and did a backward loop in the sky. He did several, showing her that he was willing to do much for her.
Just like Ronnie sang I say just like Ronnie sang: Be my little baby baby my darling! I feel a hunger it's a hunger!
Lio watched Pratyba dance around again, still trying to keep the socks in the air as he continued to juggle. She had gone off and found Y`nis hiding about. Then she stepped over to him and… kissed him on the cheek. Lio almost did not catch one of the falling socks, but it landed on his wrist and he was able to move his fingers to get it tossed back in the air again. Lio could almost feel his heart sliding down in his chest some when he watched Pratyba grab K`rin by the hands and start dancing with him. Was this Pratyba`s way of saying that K`rin and his dragon would win? No, he would not believe it. Nothing is completely decided till the end. And she let go, which assured Lio that there was still a chance. Pratyba was merely being playful, which was probably a good way to stem off the Flightlust. But Lio wanted to reach out and pull Pratyba to him, to hold her and just feel someone`s warmth in his arms again. That was all. He just wanted to hold someone in his arms again. And it was an innocent gesture in thought too since all he could think about was hugging Pratyba.
Take me home tonight!... Take me home tonight!... Take me home tonight!...

Oorth was disappointed. Why were all of her males flying away from her? They were supposed to come find her, come catch her! Didn't they know the rules of the game? It was called Hide-and-Seek, not Hide-and-Fly-off-in-the-Opposite-Direction! She understood that they were trying to impress her, but good grief! One didn't find the hiding dragon by pulling off fancy tomfoolery and luring the hider out of her spot! You found the hider by looking for the hider! Daedalouth was the only one looking for her! The others were off showing off somewhere!
It was lucky for the males that Oorth was easily distracted, as she plain forgot her frustrations with them when she caught eye of what they were trying to do for her. Instantly, she was awed, like she had been when Mikidith had drawn the heart in the clouds. That was fine! They didn't have to play Hide-and-Seek! They could have an art contest instead! That was just as much fun, right? And it was more fun because all of them clearly preferred to play that instead!
First, Eondith created a beautiful spray of orange and red leaves. Then, Mikidith made some loop-de-loops. Daedalouth tried to copy Mikidith and draw something in the clouds, but Oorth didn't see the finished project because she saw Yusriyath eat a cloud! Now confident that they were done showing off, she darted off again for one final sprint. She was definitely getting tired now, and she knew it was time for her to pick one suitor. But which? How could she possibly decide?
She continued to fly onward and upward as quickly as she could, which was not so quickly now that she was so exhausted. She was nowhere near Pern's most graceful or elegant flier, but her form was downright sloppy now. She turned around, almost flying backwards so she could get a good look at her males. The handsome Blue. The bright Purple. Her good buddy. The good-looking Brown. How could she choose between them? They were all so wonderful!
After a few more seconds, though, she had decided. The choice seemed obvious to her once she had made it. She wheeled in midair to dive towards her chosen suitor, when...
WHAM.
For the second time that Flight, Oorth had crashed headlong into something. This time, though, or whether because of the combined effect of both crashes, she knocked herself unconscious and fell to the ground while a very chubby, very confused wherry flew as fast away from the scene as he possibly could.
Pratyba-Oorth was confused. Her other half had chosen, and yet she didn't know who she was supposed to choose! {WHO DID YOU CHOOSE?} she demanded of the Pink, and, obviously, got no response. Oh, well! She picked up one of the socks and threw it back at Y'nis-- throwing things at competitors was cheating, and it was bad (though admittedly very funny, but still... bad!)-- before snatching K'rin-Daedalouth and attacking him with kisses. She had no idea if his dragon corresponded to Oorth's choice at all, but he'd do! So, completely forgetting about Oorth and leaving her unconscious dragon somewhere on the ground of the Western continent, she dragged K'rin back into her weyr. Hers. Yeah, you can't touch this I told you, you can't touch this Too hype, can't touch this Get way outta here, you can't touch this!
