When I was just a little girl I asked my mother what will I be "Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?" Here's what she said to me:
Que sera, sera Whatever will be will be The future's not ours to see Que sera, sera What will be, will be.
It started to worry her rider when Raeterith slept in that morning. The Green often woke before Rhysia, nudging her rider awake with gentle words of encouragement. When the Greenrider awoke to nothing but silence and a progressive sunrise, she sighed and decided to let Raeterith get all the rest she needed. Perhaps she was still weary from the trip they took to the beaches yesterday. She had been mentioning an agitation in her soul that she couldn't shake and Rhysia intended to ask a healer about it when she returned to the weyr. What she was told, she refused to believe what she heard. Sudden, unprovoked agitation at this age in a female dragon suggested the time to rise was near. It was something Rhysia didn't enjoy thinking about. She did not like the idea at all and it made her absolutely terrified at heart that someday it would happen, with or without her consent. She just kept on hoping that Raeterith would be a special case. Whites seldom flew if they flew at all, so why couldn't her Green be just as peculiar?
So she started her day off in complete denial, changing into fresh clothes so the duo could leave the weyr as they did every morning and return only when Rukbat was about to set. The Greenrider's temper was short that morning as she fought to get her riding gloves on and tinkered with an old belt that was starting to come apart with wear and tear. The sea air tended to make her leathers more brittle, but it wasn't going to stop Rhysia from enjoying her seaside pleasures of swimming and sand castle building. Maybe today they'd take a special trip to the mainland to help herd around some beasts for the holder folk. Raeterith enjoyed chasing those stupid creatures around and Rhysia simply enjoyed the sport of riding alongside on a runnerbeast that one couple lent to her as they assisted the run. The two started to get involved with all sorts of small side-projects that involved the outside, non-rider world. They felt unique that way, and all the pressure of being part of the hive was shaken off. It felt liberating to get away as often as possible, whenever possible. It was like running away from home every morning without the guilt when you come home at night. Sometimes they did get in trouble for not doing their duties about the weyr, but that was only if they were caught.
Well, today would be all about the capture, wouldn't it? Or so it started as the petite Green opened her eyes and felt that agitation within her spike. She was hungry and desired instant gratification in that respect. Instead of her usual slow and steady start to the day, Raeterith crouched and sprang towards the ledge of the weyr, her wings snapping open when they had the space to and her claws digging into the stone in a passionate grip. It is time, mine. I must feed, then I must fly. Even in her strict command, Raeterith managed to sound rather sorry for the inconvenience, but she was not sorry enough to hesitate any longer. She dove off and swept towards the pens, where in no time at all she would have her prey screaming at her claws--this Rhysia knew all too well.
"Oh Rae," Rhysia cried, leaving her hair untied to jog towards the ledge. It pained her to see this all unfold most inevitably, but just as weyrling training informed her, she was suddenly overwhelmed by emotions that were not quite her own. They became hers just as simply as Raeterith had when she had Impressed to the Green on the Sands. Suddenly she too was hungry, and she too wished to fly, but she did not lose herself just yet. It was absolutely important to make sure that Raeterith blooded her kill, and it wasn't going to be easy considering that her Green knew no other way to work rather than quickly.
The prey stood no chance as a lithe, clawed demon dove from the sky and dragged it into the ground. As Raeterith gave out what sounded nothing short of a war cry, Rhsyia attempted to use this opportunity to take control. Blood it; don't eat the meat. Blood it, please, or you might be lost. The mental plea was desperate more than commanding, only because the Greenrider didn't have it in her heart to use words of force on her beloved dragon. Fortunately, even in her volatile state, Raeterith hissed and clamped her jaws around the neck of the still-live creature, sucking out its blood before she extended any courtesy to killing it. This passive aggressive beauty was no joke, and was not to be taken lightly. Where pleas might work for one, another must pay.
She did not go after another beast, for a Green of her size needed no more than one. As her spring green hide became more vibrant than ever, contrasted by the bloodstains that colored her maw, chest, and front claws, she spread her wings wide and made herself take as much space as her little body could to show herself off. It was her turn to fly, and they would all listen closely. She was not going to repeat herself. Pushing herself off the ground as if she rejected the existence of gravity itself, she let out one powerful bugle for a creature so dainty, but of course compared to any larger dragon it wasn't nearly as alarming. She didn't mean to take the spotlight from the Golds, Coppers, and so on, and on, and on. She was no better than they were, but today was her day after all.
Raeterith hung in the air for a moment like a fixture, barely needing to make an effort to stay in place with her idle wing flaps. She needed to give her boys a chance to collect themselves, or they hadn't a hope in all of Pern to capture her. She was fast--too fast for anyone to catch. So they would have to learn. She could be patient, but for how long? If her suitors didn't come out to play, she would leave them behind.

H'to was deep in sleep, but Lanith, no, Lanith was awake as he looked to the sky, watching the burning orb of Rutbak raise. His radiant blue hide glittered as the light hit it, giving them the look of a large statue, carved out of sapphire. A sound grabbed his attenton, though, and his head snapped up even more.
H'to was smacked with a wall of sudden intent from his blue dragon, and awoke with a start. The black haired rider raised himself in his bed and looked in Lanith's direction. What is it, Lanith? the BlueRider asked as he rolled out of the bed and walked towards the dragon. Lanith did not answer his as he listened to the world around them. His eyes were dull in color, but soon, dapples of light purple began to dance. Mine, Green Raeterith Flies! Mine I must chase! I must! The blue snarled as he lifted himself and spread his wings. Deep rumbles shook his massive chest in eagerness as he bent his legs, ready to take flight, then lept into the air. His wings beat the air with his massive sail like wings and circled over H'to's weyr for a moment, then headed off towards the green.
H'to sighed as the feeling of flightlust begain to flood into his chest. He had to move fast, and change before he lost himself in the lust. He changed his shirt in a hurry, and that was all he worried about before he left his weyr and headed towards the green rider's weyr. He had never met the green rider before, but his lust led him on towards her weyr.
There she was. Lanith could see her spring green hide. It glittered like dew soaked grass. She moved like a blade of grass in the breeze. Oh, how beautiful she was. Lanith was determind to show his love to her. He opened his maw and let out a call to her. His call was deep and musical as he called to her, almost as if he was reciting a poem to her. No poem was good enough for her, though. Nothing written on parchment was good enough for the green goddess of the sky. Your Lanith is here, Beautiful green of the sky! He cried to her as he admired her hide and how she moved. Only he was good enough for her! He just knew it! He was like a brilliant slice of the sky, and her of the ground. They were perfect for eachother! He had to make her see that!
H'to walked into the weyr of the green rider and sighed deeply. The lust was almost unbearable now. It boiled in his chest like a pot of hot water. His skin tingled and began to sweat as his heart rate picked up quickly. His blue eyes looked around the weyr and found the green rider. Beauty. She was beautiful, or was that Lanith talking? H'to wasn't too sure, all he knew was that he wanted her, and he wanted her BADLY. He clenched he jaw shut tightly as he bowed to her, just as Lanith sang to the flying green. He would flatter her, just as she be by all.

Tabeyiith had made a full recovery from Enlith’s flight. It had been long enough and the excitement of the strange creatures His had obtained had pushed the failed flight from his mind. There was not a lighter blue scar on his nose from the vicious attack from the green, but the blue had no particular care about his beauty. He was a very sturdy blue. That was enough, right?
Today, he was curled up on his ledge, taking in the sun. Shriek, who had been a little better with his attitude lately, was curled up on top of the blue’s head, his tiny body rising and falling gently. His behavior had spiked back up when L’sd had brought the pillies home, but the bug creatures weren’t a big enough threat to him. :L’sd was glad the fire lizard hadn’t seen them during “Impression”. If he had seen the two cling to him the way they had, the blue flit would have surely tried to outdo them, screaming the whole time and probably scaring off most of the pillies.
Luckily, he had calmed down. Today, L’sd had rose early. Well, that wasn’t really out of the ordinary. But he wasn’t lazing about like the blues. He had just returned from ashort swim with the two pillies at his side and dried himself off fully, changing his clothes and running a comb through his long hair.
As he put it in a runner’s tail, he walked up and playfully slapped the forelimb of his dragon. Don’t sleep Rukbat away now, Tab he teased lovingly Or else you’ll get fat and lazy. Come on, wake up. Let’s do some drills.
And wake up the blue did. A sudden awakeness jolted his eye open. :The eyes were swirling purple. Mine, Raeterith rises. Let us follow.
But Tab, we just chased a little bit ago. You don’t want that to happen again,do you? L’sd protested, allowing the startled blue flit, who was disturbed as the blue rose onto all fours, to take refuge clinging, not as painfully as before, to his bare shoulder.
But Mine, this is the lovely Raeterith and Hers. We know them. It will not happen again.
Well, that could be the case. This would be Rhysia’s first flight. He liked the girl well enough. Though hadn’t spoken to her much recently. He had been so busy with Swimming Practice stuff and now the pillies. He sighed and gave a short nod and Tabeyiith was off. He answered her call with one of his own.
There was already another blue in the sky, but that was no problem. He would not be done in by the older blue. The other probably had more experience but Tabeyiith had seen Raeterith in drills during Weyrling Lessons. He knew some of the tricks the Green would probably have in store. He flapped his wings furiously, following his challenging call with a sweet croon to her. She was so beautiful. Her green hide was so light and lovely. Oh, he wished she would choose him.

But two suitors, and yet Raeterith did not react to the low turnout with disgust or rage. In fact, she nearly seemed complacent, as if she either expected or preferred less of a following. There was something classic about two males flying after the same female. This Green was neither jealous nor prideful. She had integrity, which was a trait that many dragons dismissed during flights. She had class, and anything short of it would simply be ignored. Either one or none of these boys would be winning her this afternoon, and despite her human's reservations, she did not mind either outcome.
She did not speak or appear flattered by the croons and calls of her two suitors. The Green dipped and soared behind them, semi-circling them to make her first examination. Yes...Tabeylith she knew well. He was a clutchsibling of hers, and they had taken classes with one another for two turns. He had grown considerably over time. As for Lanith, she was unfamiliar with the older Blue, but he was just as impressive as the darker dragon. That, or Raeterith couldn't quite make up her mind. She didn't want to make it up now. Neither of them were worthy of her if they couldn't even catch her.
At the weyr, Rhysia stepped back from the ledge, aware enough of herself to know how dangerous it was to stand there. Then she was enraptured by Raeterith once more. She turned, expecting the riders to be there, and they were. It was happening in the sky, and here as well. Realities were merging, intertwined, and she faced her prospects with the same scrutiny that her dragon utilized. Approaching on light, quiet feet, Rhysia neared H'to and stopped when she was just a foot away, smirking to him before disregarding him and moving on to L'sd. Her eyes remained on him slightly longer, but there was no smirk as before. A short sensation of discomfort took over, a sliver of disappointment at the empty spaces, and then the urge to move on before any of it could take hold.
Up above, the steadily impatient Raeterith dipped away from the males and faced them from just under a couple of dragonlengths away. It was a short space for dragons their size, who could cover it in seconds. She was taking a risk, but she believed they would need the head-start. She was quick after all, and she did not intend to slow down for their sake. Only the male that could catch her would win her. Short on stamina, one could succeed. For just one great stretch however, she wanted to be unattainable. The Green gave out a call, nothing too spectacular, before she dived away and picked up speed. Then off she went, flying towards the sun, attempting to chase it. Whipping her tail about to keep steady, she dared to crane her neck slightly and glance over her shoulder towards the males, in case they didn't get it. The race was on.
Rhysia also glanced back at her boys, after turning their backs on them for a moment. She was far enough for her gaze to cover the both of them, but she waited for either of them to make a move. So far she didn't think either of them would do it. They were too shy to touch their prize so early on. It was a bad omen. It was in bad taste. But she dared them nonetheless.

Lanith watched the green beauty with whirrling eyes. His throat released warbles of excitment as he eyed her. She was going to be his! He wanted her! He deserved her! His breathing increased in pace as he watched her begin to dance away. It was on. He let out a roaring hiss to the other, darker blue, and let his wings beat the air with much power. His tail lashed out behind him like a whip, towards the younger blue. A silent challenge from Lanith. He dared the other blue to try to get the green beauty from him. His wanted her, and would get her. Sure, Enlith's flight didn't end well for him, he still had the pale scars to prove it, but this spring green beauty wasn't like Enlith. This beauty was better than Enlith. Yes, Lanith was sure of it!
His wings beat the air, sending massive gusts of air whizzing below him. The sound was almost deafening as he chased after her. To add to the booming sound of the wind benieth his wings, deep growls echoed from his chest and throat. Purple stained his eyes.
H'to's body shook as he looked at Rhysia. Such perfection. Such beauty. He couldn't help himself anymore. His feet wanted to carry him closer to the prize. It was like she was a magnent. A beautiful magnent and he was the metal. As she circled them, his arm formed goosebumps. His spine tingled and his jaw clenched. Her eyes lingered on him, if only for a second. The sight made his heart race and his jaw clench more. There was only now. Only her. Only himselg.

((Sorry a reply took so long. I got so wrapped up with school I kinda forgot. ^^'))
It was only two. And Raeterith would not turn on them so violently. Yes, this would go much better than the last one. She flew past, examining him. Tabeyiith tried following her with his head, but didn't turn too much. She had to see his stunning body. He wasn't a little blue anymore. He had grown completely and was strong. As she looked over his competitor, he turned to face her, calling again to her sweetly. She was a lovely lady, that was sure. His only hope was to win her. What he lacked in flight experience against Lanith, he hoped he could make up for in youth an determination. He must catch the pretty Raeterith!
L'sd watched as Rhysia danced towards the two men. First, she went to H'to, giving him a smirk before she came towards L'sd. She did not smirk at him but gave him a slightly longer glance. L'sd's cheeks grew red as he realized he had started to stride forward. That he wanted to. He stopped himself before even a step. He had not won yet. But how he wanted to win.
He took a loose hand and ran it through his hair. Oh, when would Tabeyiith catch her already. It was so weird. These feelings that came to him. Not that Rhysia had ever been unfavorable to him. No, she was pretty. He just never focused on those feelings. They were odd to him, one so focused on work. But it was natural for dragons to rise, right? And natural for them to chase. So, Tab was just doing what he needed. And L'sd felt what he was supposed to.
Tabeyiith could not bother himself with His's feelings of mild confusion. He had been confused before and L'sd had helped him. But this was the lovely Raeterith! L'sd would understand when it was all done and they had won. Suddenly, the lovely green darted forward, away from them. She was a fast one, that was to be sure. He suddenly felt a woosh overhead as the other blue's tail swung over him, just barely missing him. No, he was not going to get in on this again. He ducked under the older blue and set forward after Raeterith, traveling under Lanith instead of fighting to be on the same level as him. If he could catch up to the green, he'd be able to fly up from under her without too much trouble.

They must have made the right choices, because Raeterith didn't turn on them with ferocity for taking chase. She might have been more of a lady than most her color in flight, but if either of them backed out, she would lash out and turn this into a massacre instead. It was her time, and those that did not at the very least respect that would pay in blood. But they did well. They tried to catch her. She honestly didn't think either of them could succeed if she didn't make the choice herself. But who to choose?
Tabeylith was familiar to her, and due to her stronger bonds with the past, something familiar was always in her favor. However, she couldn't count out Lanith yet, who was obviously experienced and far more eager than the younger Blue. She had to toy with them first, because nothing quite brought out the true nature of a dragon like their moves in the air. Raeterith was ready to dance with her suitors, instead of resuming this silly game of tag. Neither would catch her if she had, unless one of them could reserve enough energy to take her after she was burnt out. The Green was once the fastest and most precise of her class, but after drills she needed to take more frequent breaks than her peers. There was a price to pay for agility, and every fighter knew it. Raeterith had to keep this in mind during this maiden flight, because playing tag like a Gold wouldn't suit her style in the slightest.
But enough logic. As the desire to dance and twirl about her suitors grew, the Green grew impatient with all that thinking. It was a time to feel. She turned skyward only to loop behind the two chasers and dive towards the sea. By the waves, she wished to weave, but all the while she called to them, keeping it clear that they were more than welcome to join her. She dove in low enough to brush the surface with her tail, trailing a light spray of water just behind her. Then he rose again, twirling, hardly waiting for her boys to close their distances in whatever unique manners they preferred.
Rhysia could feel the ocean's spray on her cheeks, though they were as dry as they had been seconds ago. She could smell the sea, the beautiful sea she often frequented, and she knew that there would be no other proper place for Raeterith to visit. After all, it was their sanctuary, and the boys were being let in on this big secret because just one of them was worthy enough to share it with them. She moved about the room, light on her feet, as if dancing with a ghost that kept drifting ahead of her. Then she paused and remained fixed on H'to, slowly wandering up beside him and passing her hand over his as if to say "Come see something amazing with me."
At that moment, Raeterith was doing nearly the very same thing with Lanith. She flew towards him, as if she planned to collide with him, but swept just underneath him and let the tip of her tail trace his belly. She kept going to make a u-turn for Tabeylith, but for him she began to slow down and flew beside him, assessing him closely before she made a noise much like a thoughtful hum and practically brushed him when she rushed past him at a sudden, higher speed.
Her rider had also moved on to L'sd in this manner, slowing to his side and running her hand up his back before getting close enough to brush her head against his collar affectionately. But just as her dragon had, she moved on, and her back was turned to them both as she and her dragon waited for them.
They were getting tired after all, she and her Raeterith. The Green would make her choice soon, or the choice would be made for her.

Lanith could feel his wings burning with slight exaustion. But he would not stop. He couldn't stop, not yet, not until she chose. And she would choose him. His eyes watched her, tracing her every movement, watching how each muscle moved in her body under her spring green hide. It was as if he was a wolf, watching its prey with hungry eyes. He wasa wolf, he was more than a wolf. He was a dragon, a prince of the sky, watching his princess with longing and need. Need that burned like a wild fire in his limbs and body.
He watched as she dove towards the water. Only for a moment did he only watch. He would show her his ablilities. He launched himself backwards, then fell into a dive. He dove after her and let out a roar. His voice echoed with no feriocity, only longing. His voice sang to her, telling her of how her muscles made her hide ripple like fresh spring grass in the wind, and how she glittered like the most elegant gem. When he silenced, he was silenced by surprise as sh drifted past him, touching him ever so lightly. His body trembled and his nose flaired wildly. He watched as she drifted along side of the other, still surprised by her actions. His surprise was short lived. As soon as he admired her originality, she was off again. He let out a rumble, warning the other again, then pressed forward, harder, with more determination. Her touch had given him more strength, it seemed.
H'to did just as his dragon as Rhysia touched him. His body shivered and goosebumps formed as if he was just touched with a icy breeze. His heart raced and a heavy, dreamy sigh escaped his chest. He felt his jaws clench with lust as he watched her dance away again. He wanted to run to her and embrace her. He wanted to be hers, and wanted her to be his.

The sea. That's where the lovely green was headed. L'sd love the sea as a former fisherman and Tabeyiith had taken a liking to it when His wanted to visit. The sea was a perfect place to go, yes! Tabeyiith-L'sd seemed to grin as a salt breeze blew on their face. Surely, this locale would give them the advantage. Well, they didn't know their rivals very well, so it could not yet be determined. But the young blue pair weren't feeling out yet. Tired? Yes. But they had some fight left in them. And what was more refreshing than a sea breeze?
Tabeyiith allowed Raeterith to do her beautiful acrobatics. He was going to stay course. Stay strong. Conserve his energy for the final chase. But with his wings beating rapidly, it was clear he wasn't giving up. He crooned to her lovingly, watching jealously as she moved to the other blue. No, come to me. He could only hope. She seemed to play with him and circled back to Tabeyiith. Yes, that was much more like it. She flew beside him for a bit, staring at him. His eyes swirled at her with lust in them. She must know that he wanted her so much!
He was about to make a move when she shot forth at a high speed. Was this to be the final chase? Using his advantage of being closer than Lanith, he took after her. He was going to lose this one. This flight would be his first victory.
L'sd was finally loosening up as he, through Tabeyiith, felt the cool sea on his face. The two were so very connected now. But the coolness didn't seem to diminish either of their lust. He gave an almost dark look to H'to,a strange thing for him. He was generally not one to think badly of others. But he wanted Rhysia. Yes, he wanted her. A grin came to his face as she brushed down his back, sending a shiver to him. Oh, that wasn't fair. As if to top it all off, she rubbed against him and left. He put a hand to his collarbone, feeling so warm and chilled at the same time. Her touch was so light...he needed more.

Raeterith was exhausted, but she kept that to herself. The Blues were right behind her, and one would surely catch her if she tried to outlast them now. She saw what they had to offer, and she made up her mind. She might have made it up long before the start of this flight kicked the trio into the skies, but she planned to make her choice as clear as crystal. Long have there been so many a flight in which females have torn their suitors apart until the one left standing was victor for the luck of being well out of the way. Raeterith had passion, but not in anger or frustration. She was stern when she had to be, as she was now, teasing the two Blues to make them work their hardest and getting to know them for how they truly were. It was easy to cut around the corners in that case.
Lanith wanted her badly. He had voiced his desires quite clearly. He was a strong prince, and he knew what he wanted and what he had to do to get it.
Tabeylith also wanted her, or he might have folded now. He was her age exactly, born on the same day. She knew him since they were little. They had time to grow together and make memories of one another.
So the victor was obvious.
Raeterith leaned into Tabeylith's path and slowed herself down to fly beside him, butting her head against his neck like a kitten, crooning to him, and close enough to catch. Close enough because he was chosen, and she didn't want to accidentally tear him open with her unusually sharp claws like she had accidentally done to her own once. She twined her tail around his to make up for it, affectionate as if she were striding down the hall with a high school sweetheart. To a dragon that valued the past above all aside from hers, she chose a dragon that she remembered.
Rhysia turned and closed the distance between herself an L'sd with light steps, embracing him as if the ground all around would give way and he was the only anchor left. She wanted him, needed him, and loved him somehow, grateful that she had chosen someone she knew rather than someone she had yet to meet. She was gentle, like her dragon, careful as if trying not to cause any alarm. She touched her lips to his neck, planting delicate kisses and pressing her body close. They wanted to be taken now, to leave the world behind them. If Rhysia had been aware of what was going on, it might not have been easy. She might have tried to convince Raeterith to abandon the males altogether. But her first flight was too overwhelming. She was taken to the skies by her dragon, and for now, that was where they remained.

Tabeyiith, though an inexperienced young dragon, knew what he should do. He knew that he had won very quickly. He wasn't one to brag to the losing blue about his victory, but a quick glance was sent in Lanith's direction as he adjusted himself to lock onto Raeterith. Lanith should leave now. But Tabeyiith was not going ot push the other blue away if he was silly and did not want to go. Instead, he turned back to his lovely green prize. He crooned sweetly to her, wrapping his tail more tightly around hers. Oh, he was so happy. He felt like he could be lifted by the elation inside him alone. Yes, they could be together, falling to the Earth.
He wrapped his wings around her. They fell for now, but he was strong. He would care for her. For she was his beautiful prize. She had made him so happy. The other green he had chased was long forgotten except for the scars she had left. What a nasty thing. Of course a familiar dragon was better. Especially sweet sweet Raeterith.
L'sd's pride made him swell his chest out as he realized what was happening. They won? His overwhelming lust as a result made him forget all embarrassment, though the tinge of pink still did not leave his cheeks. Before he knew it, Rhysia was there, holding him as if life itself depended on it. He sighed lightly as she gently kissed him. He reached down and lightly grabbed her chin, using care despite the strength and urge within him. Gently, he lifted it and kissed her deeply, tightening his grip on her. From here, it was an easy bend and lift to have her in his arms, lips still locked together. Yes, he needed her too. Gently, he carried her away to the weyr, as elated as the blue in the sky above them.
