[/I] It was just before dusk, and the light was already fading into a deep purple that lined every building, landmass and reflected off of every shiny surface. Stars had not yet begun to shine, and Rukbat was just on the horizon, nothing but a orange crescent in the distance. The angled glow caused there to be an eerie glow over hills, making there odd shadows that seemed to dance in the remaining light. Foranith sat next to the lake, watching the water as she listened to the frantic thoughts of Hers. Hers was in the Weyr, reading something. What it was, she didn’t care. She didn’t agree with his reading. She believed that he needed to have more fun, to spread his own wings and fly, to be happy like she was and sing it out loud! But, she knew that her thoughts were just thoughts. She would never ask hers to change. No, not ever. Not even if her life depended on it. He was too perfect, even with his faults, he was perfect. Hers was the only Perfect one out there. No one else, dragon, human, or wher, was as perfect as her F’in. It was these thoughts that traced themselves in her mind as she watched the orange and purple light in the water. The ripples caused the colors to blend, and soon, the colors seemed to paint themselves in her eyes. Still dancing, still waving. Slowly, as the orange in the water faded ever so slowly, the orange began to vanish from her own eyes. F’in still didn’t understand it all. He and Foranith had been in this weyr for almost two seasons now, and he still didn’t know the history of the weyr. In his opinion, that was bad! How could he live somewhere and NOT know about their history? Not know about what made them what they were now? It was annoying to him. Sure, the weyr was still young compared to others, but that wasn’t the point. The rugged man had been so focused on his studies in the last few days, he ignored the brightening of his Green’s hide. Even as she watched the colors of the lake, he was oblivious to the rising feeling in the back of his mind. ”Cree-ted…?” He muttered to himself as he tried to count how many turns the weyr had been in existence. His head began to hurt, and get blurry. He raised his head from his papers and looked around, frowning. For? He asked mentally, worried. The forest green dragon didn’t answer, but the feeling grew stronger. F’in wandered to her ledge and looked up, looking for her. There was a roar in the distance, and he understood. Like a piece to the puzzle that falls into place,
You could tell how we felt from the look on our faces,
we was spinning in circles with the moon in our eyes,
The room left them moving between you and I,
We forgot where we were and we lost track of time,

[/I] Foranith let out a massive singing roar as the purple began to dance with some blue of excitement. Her striped legs threw her into the air and she headed towards the feeding grounds. The whole way to the grounds, her voice vibrated with song. She took down one beast, and stood over it for a moment, still singing happily. Blue-d it! Now, Foranith! F’in’s mind bellowed at the green that held her dead prey with a single foot. Fine! Be that way, Mine! Foranith’s song was now mixed with annoyed growls as she blooded the beast. That was all the green needed. She wanted to go! Her wings itched to be in the air, and her voice wanted to sing loud in clear in the purple sky. So she didn’t hesitate. Her striped legs threw her into the air once more, and her song grew in volume. Come on, boys! Come sing with me! She sang to them, crooning and dancing in the air for a moment, waiting for her first sight of a male, then darted towards the sky. F’in calmly organized the papers on his desk again, then moved away from it. He moved closer to his bed, just as the lust began to blind him. A smile was on his face, but it wasn’t a normal lust smile. It was a smile that showed that he loved the feeling. The feeling of the lust. The feeling of being so close to His Foranith, and eventually, the feeling of the winner on him. Yes, this was all perfect to him. What a better way to end the day? Softly, he began to hum a soft tune, mimicking the dark green that now had the sky painted in her eyes. He hummed more and more as he almost danced around the room, waiting for the chaser’s riders. He was eager to meet more of the riders in this weyr, and what was a better way to meet another person than to sleep with them? Oh, there was no better way. His heart was already racing like a drum, drumming the beat of his and Foranith’s song. Like a gift from the heavens, it was easy to tell,

Meyhineth had been perched on the ledge of his weyr, rigid and moody, glaring down the scene of Dalibor before him. He wasn't impressed. In fact, he was hardly ever impressed with anything, but he was particularly unhappy with the world at this one moment. Brekken, sprawled out belly-up on her bed with the furs haphazardly thrown over it, could feel the waves of discontent rolling off him like a tsunami, and she figured it was best to stay quiet. She did, however, stay positive herself. She knew that if Mey's poor mood got to her, and she got grumpy too, he would just get worse and nothing good would come of it. She rolled over on her bed every now and then. It was hard to stay comfortable; she wanted to move but she didn't know what to do.
Then, she sensed a change in Meyhineth's mood. It was still getting close to dark, and the dragon barely stood out against the purple sky that was slowly fading to blue ink. He perked up slightly. At first, Brekken was confused as to why, but then she heard the female's call and she understood immediately. The very thought of a flight made her ache with temptation. She sat up in bed, feeling heat building up in her body already. Meyhineth was still stock still where he sat. She could see him through the door.
Who is it, Mey? Brekken asked.
Foranith, he snapped. Her rider... Her rider is the one who speaks funny. [/i] They had seen the pair around. They had seen everyone around. Meyhineth's mention of F'in was not a kind one. Brekken could visualize his nose wrinkling as he grimaced, even though he was turned away from her. He could sense her confusion as to why he was chasing. He rarely chased. She knew he was picky. Meyhineth got defensive. She can SING, Mine,[/i] he snapped, wings flaring. She can dance and she can sing and she's singing to ME, Mine!Woah, cool it, lover boy, Brekken said. She was hurrying to him to mount. C'mon, take me to the right weyr.But I want to go NOW! he hissed. What if I don't want to take you? Ooooh, BrekkenMine, queen of everything, of course I'll do what she says! The sarcastic tone in his voice burned. She could feel how badly he wanted to chase her right this very moment. Drop me off, then go! Brekken snapped back. Reluctant in every way, fuming as he flew, the blue barely made it to F'in's weyr before he broke. Brekken only had a split second to jump off before Meyhineth shot off again, following furiously after Foranith. He called loudly to her. It was a forceful noise. He pushed himself to lessen the gap between him and his serenading beauty and cried out to her again. Foranith! he said, voice loud and almost painfully present. Foranith, I need you! His voice ached with longing. He pushed and pushed, wings working in a way they hadn't in a long time. His eyes were set on his beautiful green. He had chosen her. Many females flew, but Meyhineth hardly ever chased. He only chose the best. He only chose those that he really, really wanted, and that he needed to love. Already, his feelings for Foranith were growing beyond carnal lust. He wanted to be nice to her. He wanted to be that dragon she cuddled with. He wanted to be there for her and have fun with her and love her. He cried again, though this time the sound was more of a whine. He really wanted her. Brekken, infected willingly by Meyhineth's emotions, swaggered further into F'in's weyr. She heard him humming. It was beautiful noise. She wouldn't deny it - she wanted to jump him right then and there, but she held her distance. This was a flight, after all. A competition. May the best man win, she thought to herself, licking her lips. Or woman.[/size][/blockquote] |

There was something in the air that evening, lurking at the back of A'fel's mind even as he went about his daily tasks, doing all those things that needed doing for the care of a strong young blue dragon. Not that there'd be too much until he was formally assigned to a wing, but that just meant he had even less excuse to let those chores go undone.
He was oiling a fresh-mended harness when Pirath roused himself in the outer weyr, hauling himself off his couch with a mental growl and leaving without so much as a by-your-leave. When A'fel sent a query, all he got in response was a growl of urgent need.
Understanding dawned.
Who - ?
Foranith sings to us, Mine, the blue hissed into his rider's mind. She sings to me. She calls, and I will answer. She Rises, and I will Chase her. She Flies, and I will catch her!
The blue stayed perched on his ledge while the green fed, crooning in a clumsy sort of harmony with her song, full of his own yearning. When she coiled to leap into the air, he stretched out his wings. For a moment he stood poised, his hide a deep, even blue, smooth and unblemished, gleaming in the waning light.
Then he leaped, wings snapping down, and he gave Chase, crooning even as he rose with powerful wingbeats. His position on the weyr ledge gave him a head start that he pursued aggressively, winging his way toward the green, straining to stay just above her. He noted another blue, delayed by the act of dropping off his rider. That one wouldn't matter. He, Pirath, would join the Chase without delay. He would be the one for Foranith.
A'fel stumbled over to the outer weyr and onto the ledge, looking over the other weyrs. Flight-lust swam in his mind, dizzying, intoxicating; but he needed to resist it for just a moment longer, if it was to reach any true satisfaction. Which one is hers, Pirath? I need to know which weyr is hers!
Mentally snarling at the interruption, the blue nevertheless gave his rider an image of the weyr that the green called hers. The one that other blue had gone to.
That was all A'fel needed. He ducked back into the corridors, working his way through them, counting doors. He'd never got lost during Flight before, and he didn't mean to start now.
And when he found the greenrider's weyr - he knew, for a certainty, that it was the right one; how could he not? He saw the other man, about his age, pleasing enough to look upon - not someone he'd had the chance to know yet, but was there any more thorough way to know someone than through the union of their dragons? There'd be time for clumsy spoken introductions later.
With the need for concentration behind him, A'fel drank in his dragon's lust eagerly, feeling a shiver as it raced through him. Pirath sang to Foranith with each beat of his wings; so, too, swaying on his feet, did A'fel hum in soft harmony to the green's rider. The bluerider soared with his dragon, now, feeling the flow of air over his hide, the strain in his wings, and above all, the heart-pounding need.
In this exquisite moment, they were one. Dragon and rider, each seethed with the same burning need - the need to fly, to Chase, to win.

L'am was just leaving the kitchens, heading for his weyr with a calm and complacent Suede on his right shoulder. It was a very lazy day for the both of them. After exhausting themselves for the past couple of weeks after the attack on the Weyr, the Bronzerider was taking a much needed break. This didn't necessarily mean that he was dropping every obligation; he still gave himself work to do, even if it wasn't his own to do in the first place. But he took it easy compared to his weight of work before. A yawn escaped him, as he reached for his dragon's mind back at his man cave. The Bronze was very preoccupied these past couple of days, as if he was trying to think of some sort of scheme. Lebeth was terrible at keeping secrets, so when L'am actually asked him what was on his mind earlier that day, he found out that the Bronze was preoccupied by the idea of mating.
It was a heartbreaking shock to hear it from his aloof and childlike friend, but the initial surprise quickly gave way when L'am began to understand the nature of his dragon's inquiry. Dragons were flying and he wasn't sure if he was responding as he should have been. He was having trouble understanding lust even though he thought it had it all figured out when chasing Izkeeyerdath. L'am told the Bronze to put it all out of his mind. There's no sense in chasing if you don't want to mate, and there's no shame in celibacy. It would make things far easier for the boy if he didn't have to chase every dragon that flew and he made it as clear as he could that he was actually proud of Lebeth's personality for what it was. But his dragon brought up yet another unexpected response. What about Aimeth's? If I can catch Aimeth, you can finally catch her rider too. His rider froze and blushed at this. But his reply was, what he thought at the time, enough for his Bronze to drop the subject. Bronzes don't chase Greens. I'd rather.../catch/ Sonia the hard way.
Well, he thought it sufficed, because Lebeth didn't bring up the subject again for the rest of the day. They flew around and locally distributed information to the folk around Dalibor that pertained to security and precautions. Lebeth was even thrilled to play with some children at a local hold, and Suede was enchanted by a Pink in flight and quick to chase. He didn't really care when he lost. The trio found that playing with the young was a great way to unwind for a while. If they were their own kids however, it might not have been the case. Playing with other people's kids was more fun.
Upon entering the weyr, L'am could hear a call outside, which sounded somewhat musical for a summons. "Hm...looks like a late flight. The whers are going to be edgy tonight," he said to himself, sipping at the large cup of klah he brought from the kitchens. He planned to stay up a little later than usual tonight to write a letter to his uncle. It had been a while since they exchanged stories and L'am had quite a few to tell.
Lebeth was getting up however, his eyes a strange swirl of green and purple. Foranith! She's a lovely Green! And her singing voice is marvelous! I ought to chase her. I ought to try!
A glare at his dragon was all he had to offer, at first. Names quickly surfaced in his roll-a-dex of a mind. Green Foranith of F'in; Mayday Wing. You're kidding. "Stop that. You shouldn't. We've already talked about this. Bronzes don't chase Greens. They're too quick." His voice wavered, but the command was unshakable. Lebeth locked eyes with his rider before defiantly spreading his wings.
I must try! If not, I will never learn. I feel something, mine. I think this is it! Her song is so beautiful and it would be rude not to praise her! The Bronze made a running start before leaping out of his weyr, flapping his great wings hard to try and push his speed. He knew he was a big, slow creature, but he had to try. Greens were quick. Aimeth would be quick too. He had to learn how to catch Greens because he had to catch Aimeth for his rider someday! Besides, Foranith was well worth the effort. He could see how playful she was, and her song so exquisite. He crooned back at her in his baritone blusey fashion. He was anything but blusey about her, though. He would strive to catch these little leaping queens.
Why? L'am felt the disorientation inside him. Part of him was completely against this flight and the other was keen on knowing how well his dragon would fair. But how wrong was this! Chasing a Green! And the rider a male! L'am had no problem pretending to be interested in men for either amusement or personal gain, but sleeping with one was simply not on his agenda. What would Sonia think of him? How many baths would he have to take to wash away the smell! It was the smell that really got to him. Other men simply had their own musks. It never appealed to L'am in the slightest. But the most important question of all was WHY WAS LEBETH CHASING SO MANY DRAGONS? Faranth must have been conspiring against him on this one. Suede fluttered off his flustered human's shoulder and settled on the bed, watching L'am with a tilt of his head. He didn't understand why his human was so bothered by this, but he wanted to make him feel better. He just couldn't think of how.
L'am didn't want to go to the Greenrider's weyr, but he'd be a damned fool if he didn't He didn't want people to know this bothered him as much as it did, and it seriously did. The only thing that kept him from going on a little rampage or into a private tantrum was the fact that Bronzes rarely caught Greens. Fighter ranks were just way too fast for them, and they often chose something closer to their size. He made his way, with the utmost reluctance, to F'in's weyr. When he got there, he tried to keep to the shadows. Lustful feelings were only at the base of his mind, because Lebeth didn't really have them as strongly as other dragons did, or as he had when Izkeeyerdath flew. L'am hoped with every fiber of his being that his dragon didn't win, this time not caring if Lebeth knew it or not.
And the Bronze did. He just chose to ignore it. He was doing what was best for the both of them! Living in the moment, and chasing now so he could chase better in the future and do them both proud. He sang along with Foranith in hopes that she would know all the better. He would do his best for her.

K'var was lounging on his bed, halfway between sleep and waking, with his flitter curled up on his chest. The tiny green was fast asleep, her fat little belly rising and falling. Argotath had curled up on his couch to sleep, but something disturbed him. He lifted his head, his blue eyes whirling with traces of purple as he cocked it to one side.
Mine... I hear her, Argotath said, picking himself up off his couch. K'var blinked and rubbed his eyes.
"What?" he asked. He sat up, careful not to dislodge Bip, and gave his dragon a curious look.
I hear her. She sings beautifully, Argotath responded. The stocky blue regarded his rider curiously, then looked out into the night sky. K'var grinned, realizing exactly what his dragon was talking about as lust began to rise in him. He quietly woke his flitter, then sent her between to wherever she wanted to be that wasn't where he and Argotath were. After some complaining, the flitter went to go bother other firelizards.
"Good thing you had two herdbeasts today, you're going to need that strength if you're actually going to win."
It is Foranith, Argotath replied, fidgeting anxiously as K'var slowly got dressed. The rider's actions slowed even further as he mentally thought of who belonged to Foranith.
"Oh shards," he said. "Isn't Foranith's rider male?" he asked.
Why do I care? Get your other skin on and MOVE! Argotath blasted back, his eyes picking up a touch of red. You know some riders are males. And you know I will Chase when I want to Chase, even if you do not like the rider! Grumbling, K'var fastened his pants, tossed on a shirt, and leapt onto Argotath's back. He clung to some vertebral spikes as Argotath graciously sailed him over to F'in's weyr before taking off.
Argotath may have appeared clumsy on the ground, but the stocky blue was a marvel in the sky. Bugling his need as he and his became one, he soared after Foranith, beating his wings powerfully. He was Argotath, and the skies were his! He roared at his loudest possible volume, taking off like a streak after the males that dared chase the one he wanted. Eyes whirling a mix of red and purple, he cut through the skies expertly, trimming his wings enough to speed him up as he sought to catch up to the male dragons and surpass them.
LEAVE MY SKIES! he roared. Foranith is mine. I will sing with her and we will sun together. As if to punctuate his words, the blue crooned gently, finding a bass note that provided a nice counterpoint to Foranith's song and the other males' replies.
Within F'in's weyr, K'var fidgeted. He tried his best not to inhibit his dragon, but Argotath had decided to Chase and to win, and so he knew he had little choice in the matter. He groaned as he realized he was checking F'in out and resolved to get drunk the next day, no matter what the outcome was.

Mine, is Foranith on the list? F'reki was roused from a light doze by the question from his dragon. Girieth was laying at the edge of their weyr, his head hanging over the edge as he watched the Bowl floor with great interest. The tip of his tail was flicking, back and forth, back and forth, with increasing agitation while F'reki's drowsy mind struggled to put together an answer.
Foranith? Isn't that a green? F'reki's lack of knowledge was answer enough for the big blue. Girieth surged to his feet, balancing lightly on the edge of the weyr. F'reki's mind cleared abruptly as a surge of lust ran through him, staggering him as he tried to go to Giri, who turned to him to show eyes whirling dark purple.
She bloods! She sings for us, Mine! She sings for us to Chase her! Beyond the bulk of the blue, F'reki could see green Foranith leap into the air, several blues pursuing her as soon as she caught air beneath her wings, She is so beautiful...I will Chase, Mine!
Then you'd best get me to her rider's weyr, Girieth! Quickly now! F'reki's heart beat in excitement as he embraced Girieth's lust, wrapping it around himself and making it his own. He grabbed a flask from near his bedding and then swung quickly to Girieth's neck, not bothering with straps, or even putting a shirt on, as Giri plunged out of their weyr, gliding quickly to the green's weyr.
Girieth barely landed, gripping the ledge long enough for F'reki to slide to the floor before he pushed off, the beat of his wings sending his rider stumbling into F'in's weyr. The powerful strokes of his wings quickly let him gain ground on his competitors, and their lovely, lovely prize.
Several a bronze and several other blues were already in the air, and one, one had the audacity to tell them to back down? Back down from such a beautiful creature?
Madness. He would Chase, and he would win.
He worked his wings harder, sacrificing a little momentum of the Chase to quickly gain altitude, taking him spiraling up high on thermals from the still sun-warm cliffs below above the rest of the males. He'd never catch up with that lovely green in a straight Chase with as much of a head start she and the other males had, so, once he was high enough, and had a good angle, he folded his wings and fell into a steep dive.
The dive took him into the thick of the males. He flared his wings and leveled out, the residual momentum from the dive shooting him forward and out near the front of the pack, just several dragon lengths behind the glowing, singing Foranith. He half roared, half bugled, the sound rising to a clear tenor note that wove itself into the songs of the other dragons.
F'reki, in F'in's weyr, raked his eyes across the greenrider's form, taking him in. Good looking, gorgeous even! Somewhere, he knew that it was mostly the lust talking, but F'reki didn't care. He growled lightly, shooting a glance at the other riders gathering, and then locked his eyes on F'in once more, wallowing happily in Girieth's ever-increasing lust.

Just another night at Dalibor. H'cup ate dinner, then went back up to his weyr to polish his riding straps and maybe work a bit more on his new buckle design. Tuthleth seemed a little restless, but H'cup didn't pay too much attention. It would pass, and Tuthleth sometimes got fidgety for no real reason that H'cup could detect.
Mine.[/color]
"Hmm?" H'cup said, focusing on his buckle and not his dragon.
She sings.[/color]
"Who sings? What are you—" An all-too-familiar surge of lust rolled over him. "Oh." Damnit, a female was rising and Tuthleth wanted to Chase. He had wanted to get that buckle done tonight, but there was no resisting a Flightlust-addled dragon…and really, who would want to? H'cup conceded that to himself, in a small, private corner of his mind, but he still regretted the lost peaceful evening as he clung to Tuthleth without riding straps, just long enough for the black to deposit him on an unfamiliar weyr ledge and take off after a fading green speck.
H'cup closed his eyes as he ventured further inside the weyr, banishing thoughts of his planned evening, and letting himself merge with his dragon and get carried away in the thrill of the Flight.
Tuthleth was at a disadvantage in the Flight, the smallest Chaser for the lovely Foranith. She had several blues, and even a lone bronze—Tuthleth couldn't keep up with them in a long Chase. But he could outfly them. He was much more agile than his larger brethren, and that's what he staked his hopes on. If he could just get closer to Foranith, he could outmaneuver her and claim the singing beauty for his own.

Rukbat was sinking slowly below the horizon, pulling a vanishing act on the world. Feeroneth was crouched on their weyr's ledge, seeming intent on watching the sunset. His lavender tail twitched idly every now and then, and for a time, T'lar's world was peaceful. Akal and Meggo were sleeping. It was almost bed time for T'lar as well, but for then, he was basking in the peace of his two rivalries sleeping, for once. Whim and Rolly and Akal and Meggo... Sometimes, T'lar wondered what he'd done to deserve this crappy luck.
When Foranith's song reached Feeroneth, the small purple reacted almost instantly, his head jerking up and lust dancing into his multi-faceted gaze. T'larMine. Foranith sings. She calls to us... [/i] Still, the purple didn't move. Not just yet - Feeroneth wanted to be fashionably late. Even for a Flight, that kind of thing was important. First impressions were important, Feeroneth figured. And he was determined to make this Flight perfect. His presence would make it significantly closer to perfect, obviously, but he would have to make it even better by being fashionably late and adding just a bit more fashion to the Flight. Obviously, every Flight that Feeroneth was going to participate in would have to be fashionable. After a long few minutes, during which Feeroneth's lust surged into T'lar's mind, Feeroneth threw himself into the air with a loud bugle. Your Feeroneth is fashionably late for you, Foranith.[/i] Feeroneth proclaimed loudly, flapping powerfully after the pretty little green. He didn't need to blood any herdbeasts! This lust would be enough to propel him forward. It gave him all of the energy that he would need. T'lar was on his feet almost instantly, stumbling towards Foranith's Rider's weyr. He was starting to become an old hat at this, he figured with his bleary mind. Feeroneth had chased so many greens, it seemed... Many of them were ridden by males, yes, but luckily for T'lar, Feeroneth had yet to win a single Flight. There were blues and a black in the air. Feeroneth promptly wrote them off with an air of disgust. None of them compared to him. At the sight of the bronze, however, Feeroneth hissed unhappily. Lebeth! His own bronze clutchsibling. Perhaps His' dislike of Lebeth's rider had rubbed off on Feeroneth, but Feeroneth was not a fan of Lebeth and probably never would be. With a huff, Feeroneth made a silent resolution. He was not going to lose to Lebeth. The bronze was far too childish for Foranith to pick, but even if Foranith did not pick him (though why she wouldn't, Feeroneth couldn't even begin to guess - he was her most fashionable option, after all), he wouldn't let her pick Lebeth... Not that he could do anything to change Foranith's choice, in the end. But that didn't mean that he wouldn't try his best to make her pick him! Besides, Foranith was far too beautiful to not pick the loveliest dragon out there, and that was obviously Feeroneth. Of course, he didn't realize how egotistical he sounded. In his mind, Feeroneth was the best choice because he, of all dragons, was the most fashionably minded one out there. Obviously, he was going to be the best, no matter how often His might try to say otherwise. And if Foranith didn't believe that he would fight for her, well, she had better look at his scars! Feeroneth hadn't really fought to get them, but whatever! How would the lovely Foranith know? With a croon, Feeroneth chased after Foranith, completely ignoring her other suitors. Paying attention to them was below him, and besides, Foranith was enough of a beacon that she made it hard to focus on anyone other than her. [/I] Foranith craned her head back over her back and wings to look at her suitors. A blue was the first to arrive. Oh, how handsome he was, and he even showed her, begged to her, that he wanted her. Well, of course he wanted her, she was Foranith the green! Then it was another blue, then the third slightly surprised her. A bronze. Of course she was flattered by his arrival, but she didn’t really like Bronzes. They were too…kingly. No matter. She would watch him. More males arrived. A few more blues, and a black. Oh yes, she was quite thrilled with the outcome, and let her voice reflect it as she tore higher into the darkening sky. Then a voice grabbed her attention. She craned back to look again. A purple. He was handsome! Oh yes, but he was late!! HOW DARE HE!? She was infuriated with his lack of speed and good arrival time. Red burst into her bright purple eyes as she looped herself around. She would not take him down for the count, no not yet, he was too handsome for that, but he would learn his lesson. She went into a dive towards the purple and darted past him, letting her talons rake along his back and top of his head. Never! Be! Late! She sang to him with a snap of her jaws. Her nose flared as she continued her dive for a while. The red melted most its way from her eyes. The real me is a Southern girl

[/I] Her dive finally leveled out, and turned into a corkscrew pattern back up towards the sky. She circled around each male, looking them over. Occasionally, red would dart through her eyes as she noticed something she didn’t like about that male, but she would move on. The last male she inspected was the bronze. He was handsome, then again, all of the males were, but something wasn’t right about him. She circled him a second time, trying to put her nose on it. Then the scent reached her. She wanted to gag! He smelled…CLEAN! She became furious once more. Her singing stopped and was replaced by a furious roar as she launched herself at the bronze, latching onto his back. Her talons raked at his hide and wings, while her maw bit down on a head knob. Even his taste was clean! How disgusting was that?! She wanted to throw up! She bit down hard on the Bronze’s head knob, then once she was certain he had learned, she pushed off of him, letting her hind foot push into his face as she went and her tail whip him in the nose. Stupid bronze. You speak and it's like a song

[/I] Foranith started her song again, now happy that her chasers were pure, and perfect. Her eyes returned to a smooth, creamy purple that showed no other colors. Her wings kept pumping her upwards again. She was beginning to feel tired now, but she wasn’t ready to choose. Just a little higher. Just a little more distance. Then she would choose her winner. She would choose her male vocalist. F’in loved all the pretty faces. Only one female rider, and the rest were males. How nice. Each one had a different face, but each was beautiful in its own way. He started to walk around them each, letting his hand trail long their necks, backs, faces, arms, and really any other part of them he could touch. He liked the feel of their skin on his, and tried to think who would have the best feel later on, but Foranith’s wants were more clear in his mind. Just as the green attacked the Bronze, F’in looked at the bronze rider and threw a punch into the rider’s face. ”geet oat o’ her!” He barked through a pause of his humming. His eyes narrowed for a moment, then he moved on. He didn’t want to look at the bronze rider any more. He disgusted him now that he had a closer look at him. Eww.

Pirath pressed the advantage of his quick start, holding just above Foranith - enough height to follow her into a dive, if it came to that - and leaving just enough space between him and his lovely quarry that he could watch her movements, watch for her to commit to a maneuver that would give him a chance to catch her. If he came too close, she could twist away; nimble he was for a blue, but he knew she was smaller, lighter, more agile. If he wanted to catch her - and he did, of course - he would need to be smart.
Smarter than her other suitors. The blues did not worry him. They had tarried, where his sole priority had been to rise, to fly, to Chase. And the one who thought to order him away from his Foranith was hardly worth even contempt. Worth keeping a corner of his eye on, to be sure he didn't get caught by an unexpected attack, but no more than that.
A bronze... hardly worth caring about. Too big, too slow, too cumbersome in the air. He would catch Foranith long before a bronze could get close enough. And that silly, stupid purple... waiting before joining the Chase, as though that would make him more likely to catch up.
A black, though... that black gave him cause for concern. Small, nimble, like Foranith herself only more so, and Pirath knew that this black was a deft flier indeed. Pirath needed to keep him at bay, if it came to that, for long enough that he tired.
And then suddenly Foranith was turning, whirling about! Pirath cupped his wings, tilting upward, then furled one in close, tilting over to that side and tumbling into a wing-over, then stretching out his wings as he dove down to recover speed, now going the opposite way. His wings ached from the strain, and he'd lost height by the time he was on Foranith's tail again, but it had worked, turning him about faster than merely banking over possibly could. He saw Foranith diving for the purple, and strained to beat his wings faster, to catch up - and then he exulted when her claws raked the stupid, tardy sub-king, and again when she rejected the foolish bronze.
Bugling in triumph as though it had been his claws to bite into his larger rivals, he flew on - harder, faster, straining to regain his height before the other blues and that tricky black could get any close.
Blues and a black to worry about, now. Out of the corners of his vision, he spared a few motes of attention for his blue rivals, and a few more dedicated to that sharding quick black. But by far most of his attention was on the true star of the evening, on lovely Foranith and her resonant song. With the scuffles fading into the past, he let his voice sink back into a low hum, seeking out a harmony with Foranith's song, thrumming with each quickened breath, with each frenzied beat of his wings.
In the greenrider's weyr, A'fel barely even saw the other faces. The only one that mattered was that of Foranith's rider. He didn't know the man's name, but right now, that didn't matter. He was appealing - of course he was, with the dragon's lust pounding in his mind. But even the distant corner of him that was still A'fel, not Pirath, enjoyed the sight of this man. And when those fingers slid over him, he leaned into the touch with a croon that was a fair match for a dragon's, as good as his voice could manage. Yessss. Let Foranith-and-hers see that Pirath-and-his were both suitable, both the right ones to choose.
And though he ached when F'in's touch and attention moved on, he hissed with an echo of his dragon's joy at seeing the bronzerider punished for his intrusion, his presumption.

L'am was starting to become one with his dragon, though he fought against it to the best of his abilities. He had a harder time assessing the reality of what was going on around him, as everything started to make sense only through dragon's eyes. He knew for certain, like a chant playing over and over in his head, that he did not want to win this flight. He did not, did not, did not.
A certain Bronze couldn't have cared less, even though he was way out of his league in this chase. There were many smaller, faster dragons than himself, and that Green would have had to be delusional to choose something several times larger than herself as a mate, especially when he was known as the village 'boy in men's-clothing'. Lebeth continued to sing, but it tapered off as he tried to catch up with everyone. How hard it was! He didn't think it would be so difficult to catch up! Even Feeroneth was leaving him in the dust with less effort. But the big boy didn't give in just yet. He was too captivated by that Green, imagining for just a moment that it was Aimeth and it was utterly imperative to catch her. Why did his human fight him on this? Why did he insist on chasing the girl if he didn't intend to catch her dragon in flight? Lebeth had to be prepared, because sometimes he knew what was better for his rider. He had to look out for him.
As he watched Foranith chastise his brother for showing up later than she would have liked, Lebeth tried to push himself to move faster. That agility was simply unreal. There was no way he could do half those maneuvers without setting himself back. This was nothing like a Goldflight at all. Or a Red. Lebeth was getting tired from pumping his wings as quickly as he could. There was a lot more air they had to move, being as massive as they were. The wind was working with greater force against him. The Bronze tried to focus on what he could do however, and winning that precious singing Green for himself. Humming again, he knew the flight would be short and she would be examining them soon. He had to look his best. Maybe he wasn't quick, but he did try to be ever so nice.
Foranith reached him last, and he whistled a friendly note to her as her eyes passed over him. He didn't notice her nose give a twitch, or the reddening of her eyes. He only became wary when she suddenly pounced upon him too quickly for him to respond. The Bronze cried out when claws raked at his back, though they didn't do as much damage to his bulky sections as they were doing to his wings. The thin membranes were being punctured by her hind claws, as she was gnawing on one of his head nobs like a mad wher. Lebeth forgot about the flight and heaved himself while in the air to jerk her off his back. The tiny demoness was tearing him up! His eyes flashed for a moment before he quickly remembered an old promise. Lebeth tried to shake Foranith off desperately, growling and hissing all the while. Excuse me please! And I'll be out of your skies! I don't need to be torn at like prey!
She finally pushed off him and he dove out immediately after, both hurt and offended. If he could have cried, he would have been ready to. It just wasn't fair. What did he do wrong? He was trying his best and she didn't even give him a chance. Would Aimeth do that to him? No doubt. He had seen her stand up to him on calmer occasions. He should have listened to his rider. His rider! In pain! Lebeth roared and beat his stinging wings powerfully as he sped back towards the weyr. Shame Lebeth, then shame on you, but shame his rider, and there would be hell to pay.
The punch to the face was both highly unnecessary...and unpleasant. Later on he could thank F'in for shedding him from the standings early on. No offense, but chasing other guys was none to appealing. He would have dodged it if he wasn't trying to contact Lebeth shortly after he was jumped by Foranith. Just as his dragon, he could feel claws at his back. It was quite unsettling until he realized his dragon was going to be alright. It was just a flesh wound, and Lebeth was rightfully bowing out. But as he was slowly getting his head back on straight, the Greenrider's fist connected with his nose and sent the Bronzerider backwards and on to the ground. He could see the sneers hear the hisses from the other suitors, but he also saw plenty of red. Breathing through his mouth, and knowing this feeling from having had a similar assault in the past, his nose was broken. Again. As if it wasn't crooked enough. Wincing, L'am did a little crabwalk out of the weyr and let himself stay planted just outside ripping off pieces of his shirt to help stop the bleeding. Mentally, he cursed an uncontrollable stream. Worst night ever. And it was a nice day too, up until now. He could still feel Lebeth, and how that Bronze was both worried and upset over his rider's injury. I'll be fine, Lebeth. Focus on landing safely. Hey, at least you won't be going to the infirmary alone.
It was highly unnecessary! Such a cruel thing to be done to Mine! I shouldn't have chased. Greens are crazy! L'amMine, are they always this crazy? Did I do something wrong?
No...but you shouldn't have chased. Save it for dragons you know. Then you'll know what you're up against. It was a huge part of the problem. The attack could have been better avoided if they hadn't taken a bath for a week, but they didn't know of the pair's insistence on remaining 'earthy'. L'am couldn't stand musky smells, and his own scents were just as controlled. He got up, afraid to blow his nose because the last time it caused a blood clot to get lodged into his sinuses. Faranth knows how irritating that feels. He made his way to the infirmary and tried to think of the more positive side of all this.
At least you don't have to lie with a man.
Yep. At least there's that. Leave it to Lebeth to see the brighter side of life. Even with a bloody knob and some battle scars.

The violence unfolding around him made him falter briefly. Foranith had attacked a latecoming purple and the bronze. It was the first time Meyhineth had bothered to look around at the other suitors. With the purple and bronze out of the running, there were only other blues, and a black. He gained some confidence in figuring out that he was the largest dragon still left, though not by much. Still determined as ever, he followed Foranith's dive and resulting climb as closely as he could. His partial tail had always hindered him slightly; there was always room for a little more maneuverability that a few more feet of tail could have given him. He didn't care, though. He didn't have to be perfect. Foranith didn't have to be perfect, either - but she was.
Throwing a nasty look at Argotath, who had had the nerve to try and tell them to leave his skies, Meyhineth gave a roar to Foranith and surged forward. Who did Argotath think he was?! Thinking that Foranith was his and that the sky was his. The sky belonged to Foranith, and Foranith belonged to no-one! Not yet, at least. She would belong to whoever she wanted to belong to. Meyhineth wanted her, that was a given, but he wasn't going so far as to call her 'his.' He was a sensitive beast. He knew how ladies thought (because he thought like one, too) and they probably didn't like being claimed by some brute! She could choose whoever she wanted. Meyhineth loved her, so he respected her.
He was also trying really sharding hard to impress her, though. He flew hard and fast, showing how he could balance even with part of a tail missing, and showing how speed could belong to bigger boys, too. He cried again - another whining sound of longing - and watched her soft green hide lit by the setting sun. She was so beautiful... He just wanted to do everything with her! They could swim, and talk about things, and go on romantic flights, and feed each other the best herdbeasts, and have baths together, and do everything! He swooned at the idea of it. It would be so nice! Just him and his love... Foranith.
Brekken was feeling the same aching longing. She wanted F'in. She wanted to feel his body with hers. If not F'in, then someone else, but she wanted F'in over everyone else. She felt his touch and sighed, biting her lip and then smiling wide. "You tease," she said sultrily. She liked that. She was very sure she would like everything about him. If only he would choose her... Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't. She knew how flights worked. But she sure hoped he would.
Foranith, the blue breathed, to feel her name in his mind again. He pushed his body even further. [/blockquote] |

Girieth had dropped into a steady position above and a little ways back from the lovely Foranith, after his initial showy dive to catch up with the chase, knowing his own limitations even as the lust burning through him urged him closer, closer. He was too big and too old to really keep up with the lovely green's agility and speed, not like the black or some of the other blues, and if he wanted to have a reasonable chance at winning he'd need to use all his skill to impress her, to catch her.
He knew his major advantage was how long he could stay in the air; if he could outlast everyone but Foranith, or if everyone tired and slowed before him, victory was his. He cast a speculative eye over his competitors, considering them; the bronze was even less likely to win than he was; stamina, yes, but far too large and and slow to really be competition. He was promptly disregarded. The blues were interesting, definitely a threat, but the black was the most worrisome. He'd seen him in the air, and knew with that one there was a chance he could simply out fly the rest of them and claim Foranith.
And, oh, a purple was arriving late. He wasn't the only one to notice him, either; he banked sharply to follow as the green they Chased swung about and towards the purple. Girieth warbled a laugh when she punished him for his tardiness, but quickly settled back into his bold, wooing song as he folded his wings tightly to his body, letting himself drop into a controlled fall when she continued her dive.
He pulled out significantly sooner than she did, trying to maintain a good height on her, his bi-colored wings catching the air and pulling him quickly out of his dead drop. It wasn't enough, as Foranith rose faster than he could, circling him and moving on, and he swung into a wide circling pattern to follow. Too far away, but he was gaining height quickly; was it worth the risk of being so far from the main competitors?
He closed as she mauled the bronze, the sight making him roar, pleased at the sight of a male falling from the Chase, despite it being the one least likely to win in the first place. When she rose again, seeking greater heights, he was close on her tail, just behind another blue, strategy forgotten as his great wings beat the the air furiously, his lungs straining from the climb, his song still loud, unwavering.
F'reki shivered as the greenrider ran his hands over his face and neck, catching briefly at the trailing hand to press a kiss to the back, his gaze heated as his eyes followed the man even when he'd moved on to the next rider. He growled again, lowly; the attention given to the others irritated him. He laughed when the bronzerider was driven from the weyr, exulting in his dragon's pleasure at the loss of a competitor, but still unhappy with how many others there were.

Feeroneth gave a pleasant croon when Foranith craned her neck back to examine him. The hint of red entering her gaze didn't clue him in to the fact that she was angry. Feeroneth never payed much attention to those other than him, even during a Flight, though he probably should, particularly during a Flight.
So, when Foranith rounded on him, he was rather startled. The Purple gave a startled cry when Foranith's talons ripped into his hide, causing ichor to drip from his body. Her mental cry made Feeroneth give a soft huff, but he didn't respond other than that. Indeed, in seconds, he had completely forgotten her reprimand and was focused almost entirely on Foranith once more.
Two parts of his attention were focused on things other than Foranith. One part of his mind had noticed just how sharding much being mauled had hurt, and another part of it focused upon Foranith's other Chasers. Upon observation, Feeroneth had to admit that she would have to be crazy to pick anyone other than him, obviously.
In fact, she seemed to have caught onto that. Foranith, in all of her beauty, was circling around the males, inspecting each one of them in turn. Feeroneth gave a pleasant croon when she circled around him, dipping and diving and all around showing off as she circled around him, doing his best to prove that he was, in fact, the best option available for her. She would have to be insane not to see it, but Feeroneth wasn't going to give Foranith any excuses for not picking him.
However, he watched with an avid gaze when she circled around the other males, and a very pleasant croon escaped Feeroneth when she seemed displeased by Lebeth. In fact, he gave a delighted crow when she chomped down on his head nob. One suitor was down and out already, Feeroneth thought delightedly when Lebeth plunged from the sky, down and out of Foranith's Flight.
In a few mere seconds, however, Feeroneth had completely forgotten about Lebeth and was once more entirely focused on Foranith and her remaining suitors. As a Sub-King, he was the highest ranked of those Chased after Foranith. That didn't mean much, but it was a bit extra, Feeroneth figured after a long moment. Something more to prove to Foranith that he alone was the best of them all.
Feeroneth began the long climb upwards, chasing after Foranith. He could feel his wings beginning to tire, but as long as she was moving, Feeroneth was going to chase after her. His pale lavender wings beat heavily, carrying Feeroneth upwards. He wasn't the fastest of her suitors, but Feeroneth knew that he was the most lovely. Obviously, she would have to pick him. The other greenflights that he had failed in didn't occur to Feeroneth in that moment. He had banished them from his mind the moment that they happened.
Meanwhile, back at F'in's weyr, T'lar watched F'in with hungry eyes. He huffed slightly beneath his breath as the man made his way up to each of the riders, touching them each in turn. T'lar, though he would not wish for it later, longed for F'in's touch, and he gave a hungry growl when the man made his way up to him, his hands sliding along T'lar's skin.
At the sight of F'in punching L'am, T'lar gave a pleased snort. Not only was F'in punching his least favorite bronzerider, he was also getting rid of some of T'lar's competition. He appreciated that - it would make impressing F'in and Foranith that much easier. [/blockquote] |

Argotath exulted in the Flight, in the Chase. He crooned his want, his need, as other dragons joined in. He barely gave the arriving Purple a second glance, knowing he was much better than this beast who was a couple shades off from being a Pink! He was Argotath, true to his colour! His hide was such a rich blue that he was unmistakably Blue, how could Foranith miss him in the skies? He snorted to himself as a bronze joined in, recognizing him as the dragon belonging to the one His wanted to punch in the face one day. He swooped in close to Foranith as she circled him, whirling about deftly as she doubled back to take on the Bronze. Argotath roared triumphantly as Foranith took Lebeth out of the running, knowing there was one less dragon in the air to outfly.
Argotath eyed Feeroneth again, eyes whirling red as he took in the sight of this would-be-Pink of a Purple that dared Chase while he as in the sky. How dare he come along, with his lavender self all late and such?! That was an affront to Foranith, and Argotath would not have this, not now, not while he was Chasing this beautiful Green bit of starlight. He pulled his wings close and dropped back, reaching out with his foreclaws to rake at Feeronith's face, his lack of his rightmost toe on his right foreclaw likely saving the dragon's eye from his wrath. Like a feline, he gripped hold of Feeroneth, kicking his back feet to rake his claws down the same marks Foranith had left on his lavender hide. He chomped down on one of the Purple's head knobs, not sparing any of his teeth.
She may be merciful. I am not. Suffer for your offense!! he hissed. With a disdainful snort, he let the Purple go. He swooped back into the Flight himself, flapping his wings powerfully. Already they ached, but he wasn't going to lose sight of his goal. He was determined to win, regardless of who stood in his way. He'd lost precious time, though, by mauling the Purple.
Back in F'in's weyr, K'var had given himself fully to Argotath's lust. There was still part of his mind that screamed 'no' about the whole thing, but it was a tiny fraction of his consciousness. He purred sensually as F'in touched him, reaching out to touch the greenrider's waist in return. His blue-green eyes travelled over the man's body, and he all but laughed at L'am as he got punched in the face. He didn't like L'am much, so he enjoyed that blow considerably.

Tuthleth followed the lovely Foranith in her dive, bugling as she raked the late-arriving purple. He wasn't out yet, but any sign of disapproval towards another male was good news for him! He showed off a bit as she corckscrewed back up, matching her agility better than the larger males could. This was his only advantage. He had to make sure she saw it, even as his wings started to ache.
He tried echoing her song as she savaged the bronze. One less competitor for him! And it was the largest of them, the one who could keep going the longest. He had a better chance now, though he was still the smallest. But with the purple having been raked, and then savaged by one of the blues, he surely wouldn't last as long as he otherwise could have. And the blues were easier competition. Hopefully, Foranith would choose soon, though, before he was forced to truly pit his stamina against theirs.
H'cup leaned into F'in's touch, but didn't touch back, even though his hands twitched and he ached to. Not yet. Not until Foranith chose. He exulted with Tuthleth as the bronze was savaged and his rider punched. One down. They were that much closer.

[/I] Foranith’s wings were beginning to tire. Her breathing was becoming heavy, and her muscles screamed. Her chasers were catching up with her slowly, and she did not like that. There was one other thing she didn’t like. That blue, Argotath. He was claiming her before he could catch her, and he too HER role as main punisher of the males in HER sky! No! She would not allow that any more! She twisted around once more and collided with the blue swiftly and danced away from him again. She didn’t waste any more energy than that on him. He wasn’t worth her time. She didn’t want him. He didn’t deserve her. In fact, he disgusted her. With a snort, she pushed on harder, just to get to her highest point before claiming her male, her singer, her music. Cause everytime we touch, I feel the static

You make me rise when I fall [/I] F’in looked at the men and the one young woman, a smile on his face. He knew what Foranith was thinking, and he now knew they were going to choose. He wouldn’t let the others know that yet. Not until Foranith was done with her flight, would he let them know what they were thinking. So, he kept walking around them, looking at them, longing for one of them. 'Cause everytime we touch, I get this feeling

I need you by my side Foranith finally reached her peak. The last glow of Rukbat was vanishing, and stars were beginning to light up. It was time now. She would claim her winner. She would give her reward to the best of the males. She started to slow herself and circle them again. Her eyes were bright as could be, and were still pure of color. She danced around until her eyes landed on her winner. She darted towards him with her last bit of pure energy, and claimed him as her own. Pirath, You are mine, and we will fill the night with our beautiful songs, She crooned to him as she wrapped herself around the blue male. She felt complete now. He was Hers, She was His. HerOwn was HisOwn, and HisOwn’s was HerOwn’s. It was a perfect match, and would be a perfect night. F’in did as Foranith and circled around the riders. He smiled more and more, then the signal was given. He was allowed to claim his prize. Oh how he wanted his prize! He sashayed over to A’fel and wrapped his own strong arms around the Blue rider’s waist. Like a happy school girl, he pressed his mouth to the other man’s with a happy croon. It was about time. The sweet, sweet taste of perfection.

Flying hard, straining to keep up with the twists and turns of a nimble green in the air, was taking its toll on Pirath - especially since he was flying a little fancier than usual, trying to cut across Foranith's curves close enough that he didn't risk going the wrong way, showing himself to advantage by drifting ever so slightly in front of her, if off to the side, before slipping back into position in the Chase. He'd not be able to keep this up too much longer, he knew; if she didn't choose soon, he'd have to make one last grab, then - the thought stung - concede.
It stung, yes. But that sting galvanized him. He might have burned through his stamina to the point that he didn't have very much left, but he wasn't out of the Chase yet. He could still win. He would win, would prove that he was best for Foranith, and right now, she was all that mattered.
But why was that sharding purple still Chasing? Hadn't he learned? Even if Foranith hadn't torn into him as badly as the bronze, she'd still made her disapproval plain.
At least the purple was a suitable distraction for that other blue that presumed that he, not Foranith, owned the skies tonight. Even if Argotath rejoined the flight, he'd lost time, and he'd shown that he didn't really think Foranith was as important as she was. Bad, bad - and Foranith showed it, too! Pirath spared his breath for flying and crooning, rather than uttering another bugle of delight, when she shoved off of Argotath, but he felt a surge of excitement all the same.
And then, shining in the last of the day's light, Foranith was turning, choosing - and - yeessssss... She was twining around him, he around her; he - not any of the others - was hers, she his. He wrapped himself tight around his new mate, thrumming with satisfaction and pleasure.
On the ground, in the weyr, A'fel, unable to sway the flight with anything but the intensity of his need to bolster his dragon's, let that need course through him unimpeded. He ached for the green's rider, needed him, so badly he could hardly stay on his feet. His dragon's fatigue burned in him in turn, tingling in parts he didn't actually have - but above that, the need returned to him in turn, redoubled.
Then the moment of all importance, the moment of tension, the moment of choice - and the choice was made, and the greenrider was gathering him in close. He wrapped his arms around the man in turn, one hand against his shoulder, the other down low, meeting his kiss with urgent hunger, rival suitors forgotten.
Who needed words? Who needed names, even? They had their dragons, and they all had each other. In this exquisite moment, that was all anyone needed.
