(( OoC: Run into and interact with Pash in one single post! FUN TIMES! GO GO GO! Someone else will post, and then I will, and then someone new, and I will, and so on! ))
She couldn't believe how busy it was.
When she had arrived at the dining hall, the line for food was acceptable. She had settled in with plenty of elbow room. But somehow, between the end of the line and the front, it seemed as though the entire Weyr had gathered for lunch. It was ridiculous - people had to have different schedules with different lunch breaks. They had to. With so many people in one place, it was as if everyone had gotten the munchies at the exact same time, and Pash was left to suffer with it. She grabbed her plate.
Pash hoped this wasn't a daily occurrence. It certainly hadn't happened quite to this degree at any of the other times she had gone for her meal. If it was going to become a tradition, she would have to make a habit of eating at unorthodox hours just to avoid this. As she piled food onto her plate, making sure she wouldn't have to go back for seconds, she heard the loud roar of conversation and the scraping of benches as people claim tables prematurely. By the time she got to the end of the serving table, her plate of food was mountainous, most consisting of tubers because it felt like a tuber sort of day. It required both of her small hands to hold upright, which she realized as a mistake right away.
She turned and looked out at the crowd of people around her. Rather, she looked at the first few people near her, and couldn't see beyond those. Pash held to her food for dear life and took a deep breath. Somehow, she had to get out of this mess and to a place to sit, preferably with all five feet of herself intact and her food off the floor. Making it into some life-or-death mission in her head, she set forth boldly, weaving through a mass of people that couldn't even see her down where she was.
It was going well, until... [/blockquote]

{This is totally a drive-by. xD}
"Excuse me!"
From the crowd, perfectly cloaked by the mass of humanity that stuffed the free spaces in the dining hall, a strange man shot out of nowhere and swerved right by Pash, picking out a handsomely large tuber from her tray as he passed. No rhyme or reason, or at least from what the girl could tell. She never met the man and even if she heard of his infamous endeavors, she wouldn't have pinned him to the proper identity without his dragon in tow. If she paid any attention, or spun around in time to see the man before he vanished back into the crowd, she might have taken into account a few details for future's sake--the shock of sandy blonde hair and an impressive affliction known to us as 'the mullet', a scarf that barely knew its place in these warmer days of spring, a coat weather worn by many turns of abuse, and spectacles so large and round that hardly a soul would neglect to notice the color of his eyes. He did not linger. He never did. And he didn't give her a chance to stop him. "I'm afraid I won't be returning it, my dear! Much thanks in advance!"
And with that, he was gone. Whatever would a man do that for?
Well, B'wie was no ordinary man. He was a terribly busy man. He had no time to wait in the same immense line, fairly, like everyone else. He had no time to follow the rules that were never outlined--simply 'assumed'. What he saw, instead of a bewildered young woman, was a tray full of tubers. What he had, waiting just upstairs, was an experiment that required his undivided attention. His empty stomach simply needed to be filled in order to keep the machine running. Pash provided a quick solution to what might have been an insignificant problem. To him at least. But his metabolism would surely thank her and apologize if it could.

"Hey!" Pash choked out. The flash flood of tuber theft caught her entirely by surprise. In the short second it took for the man to come and go, all Pash saw was a pair of nostrils underneath bug eye glasses. He offered something akin to an apology that was more like an unwanted thank-you card, and Pash instinctively clutched her plate closer to her. She looked down and saw that the missing vegetable was one that she picked specifically. It had been nice! Huge! It looked great on the top of her food! Now, there was a sizable amount of empty air where it had been.
"Wherry!" she snapped over her shoulder, whether or not B'wie could still hear her. It was her food. She had waited in line fair and square. One day, she would steal his sharding tuber, and then she'd see how he felt about it. The taste of revenge was tantalizing, but not, as she looked down at her plate, as tantalizing as the remaining hill of tubers and carved herdbeast meat. That reminded her that she had to keep moving so she could actually sit down and eat.
With her plate held closer to her for protection, she started weaving through the crowd again. Then, she felt something against her, and yelped. [/blockquote]

"Oh, I'm sorry," Delilah said awkwardly, having been shoved into the small girl by the press of people. She recognized the other as a fellow Candidate, though they hadn't been introduced yet - and would not be today, or at least not right now, for Delilah had just finished her meal and was rushing her tray to the stack of dirty ones so she could race off to chores. Busy, busy, and only just enough time to apologize for bumping her hip into the other girl's.
Glowering at the man who had shoved past her, she added, slightly waspish, "It's hard in here for someone small, isn't it?" And after that brief moment of hopefully-shared understanding, she was gone in a flash of blonde hair.

Pash wobbled on her feet. He right foot jumped back to steady her, and she found her balance again, and also found a grip on her precariously perched plate of food. "I'm okay," Pash spluttered. There was a proper apology to come with the collision, though, so Pash let it slide. After all, nothing had been dropped and no one had been hurt, so it was alright. She wasn't even sure it had been the other girl's fault; some tall man had lumbered on by who looked a little suspicious. She glowered at him, too.
"Yeah, no kidding," she muttered. She knew the girl from somewhere, she realized - another candidate, most likely - and made a mental note to find her again later. Just when she went to mention it, the other half of the conversation was gone, and Pash continued forth. Being short definitely was a disadvantage sometimes, especially carrying something. She had to be careful, but people tended to look over her head. It was tricky business. Sometimes, though, being so small was best in a crowd - you could slip in between just about everyone and no one seemed to mind. Her tubers were not so slippery, though, and she quite valued those, so she kept to walking slow for the sake of care.
Too bad that didn't mean that everyone else would be careful, too. [/blockquote]

Tris and Emia were trying to weave their way infront of Larka as the candidate clenched her food tray in her hands. It was way too crowded in here! Going sideways seemed to work better at least. Looking around, the dragon candidate tried to see Inali's head among the crowd. She had seen her when they first arrived, now though? It was basically useless. Sighing, Larka turned around again to see a girl ram into her. Tris and Emia chirped unhappily, and while the black flit zoomed straight to His, Emia stayed back. She didn't see any blood but it didn't mean there wasn't any.
"I'm so sorry. I should have watched where I was going." Helping to pick up anything the candidate had dropped, Larka gave a fleeting smile. "I'll just be going now...I'm eating this in the barracks." Pointing to her tray, the candidate skirted away from the girl. Emia landed on the auburn hair of Hers, but Tris hovered over Pash. She had yummies! Diving down quickly, the black aimed to get one of the tasty tidbits. "Tris no!" Larka's shout made him stop half-way though. Hissing, the black gave one final look at the tray before flying over to His again.

Suddenly, a girl came out of nowhere and Pash crashed right into her. She heard her fork clatter to the ground noisily, cursing in her head. This day was just awful! She was running into way too many people. This made, what, three? And she had no idea if she had even gotten a good distance away from the serving table yet, because it was impossible to tell with all the sharding people around. She was really looking forward to finally sitting down. Even if she was at a table with strangers, it would be better than this. She moved to bend and grab her fork, but the other girl had already picked it up for her and apologize.
"Thanks," Pash said, offering a smile back. Another girl she'd seen around in the candidate barracks, and... oh, she was eating in the barracks. "Faranth, that's actually a good idea," Pash said, just as a black firelizard appeared. Her protective, motherly instincts kicked in and she sheltered her food with her body. Then, the other candidate called him off, and a passing man separated the two. Pash kept on walking.
On second though, eating in the barracks wasn't really the best decision. She didn't really want to make a mess. At least here, in the dining hall, if she made a mess it would be easy to clean it up. Tubers and gravy all over bedfurs, though... That would be a nightmare. She should probably just find an empty space to eat here, wait out the crowd, and then return her plate to be washed. She was actually making decent progress getting through the mob, until someone was precisely in the way of where she needed to pass.
"Excuse me," she piped up, hoping they would just move and she could be on her way. [/blockquote]

Most of the time when Qosis moved, other people tended to flow around him like schools of fish daintily dodging some greater predator. Only now he had managed to work himself perpendicular to a current of human bodies, and if he attempted to intrude he would earn entire trayfuls of lunches on his sleeves. But the ways left and right were blocked too, by a populace that was milling more than moving toward their appropriate tables. He already had his food, but could not reach where he needed to go from here.
Whatever Pash said went completely unheard. But Qosis still pivoted around a second later, already stepping one impatient foot forward in the opposite direction. It was the crashing sound and the brief shudders of impact against his tray and stomach that directed his attention downward. At first he saw nothing but his own tray. He shifted it to his left hand and moved it as far out of his personal space as he dared, then peered down at the collapse of another tray and a girl on the floor. A trace of alarm wrenched up his eyebrows and he reached down to seize her arm, pulling her up lightly from the oddly dry stretch of fallen food on the ground.
It was only then he found where most of her gravy and other fluid garnishes had gone: straight into the middle of the fine blue tunic he was wearing. Her tray had hit there, while his had cracked her somewhere about her head. Qosis took a deep breath as he examined her face, his shirt, and then the lost cause of tubers around their feet.
He smiled.
"You have good taste." He stuffed his own tray into her hands: it had a little more meat and a little less seasoning, but highly similar abundance of rootstuffs. The trader brushed his hand toward the great stain at the center of him without quite touching it. With an amiable shrug, he reached down again and grabbed the empty tray off the ground. Then he spotted an opening in the crowds behind Pash, and took one long stride around her. He headed off to gather his lunch-- for the second time.

The lack of immediate response bothered her. All of these tight-packed people were making her irritable. She cough out a louder attempt to get the man to move, but her attempts were quickly ruined. "Excu--" was all she managed to get out before meeting the ground full force. Pain cracked through her head, where something had hit her, and her hip where she had fallen. Her tray of food was nowhere near her fingers where it should have been. She groaned.
Then, she was pulled back up to her feet, her skin protesting slightly against the man's grip. Immediately people rushed in at the spot her sprawled body had been previously taken up, and she felt crowded again. Her relief at being standing again, however, was quickly ruining by the large, ugly mess of food down the guy's shirt. Most of it was tuber sauce. Her face flamed up red; she had really been trying to hold onto her plate well so it wouldn't do exactly that. He did crash into her rather hard, though...
"Oh, Faranth shard it, I'm so sorry," she apologized, even though she knew it was largely his fault, but his smile got her. Tuber sauce on him, and the tubers on the floor. She cracked her own grin and laughed a little. Wasn't this just great! Incredibly appetizing. Then, she found his tray shoved into her hands, and he was picking up the empty one. Pash blinked.
"Woah, are you sure?" she squeaked, but Qosis had already disappeared into the crowd. Pash smiled to herself. Good guy, she mused, and then saw it. A glorious, beautiful break in the crowd. The end of the lineup, the low-concentration collection of people just looking around for tables. With a hoot of relief, she sprang out of the mob and was free to eat. It wasn't her food, but hey -- it didn't make a difference!
