We keep drifting on and on Across this barren wasteland Seared earth laid waste On another plane of existence
Blinding brilliant light Alludes to the illusion of serenity
By sunset, D'ix was afflicted with something akin to worry. Akin, due to the simple fact that a day spent without Ressouth was bliss in itself--no nagging, high pitched voice cutting through his thoughts and no input on matters that did not apply to her. It was supposed to be relaxing, but the dark-haired Cyanrider spent most of his day dreading her stirring rather than seizing the opportunity to make something of his free time. He could have spent the last few hours hunting a certain Wherling down just to settle an old score. He could have pushed around a few Candidates without having to mind Ressouth's desire to eat one of them. She always took his fits to the extreme, insisting that he wouldn't acquire the proper respect until he leveled his approaches up. The same old song and dance would supposedly fail him, according to the Cyan's bottomless wisdom. Wisdom that she imparted to him whether or not he asked for it.
But all day, he felt like he had something on his back that refused to get off. It was stress enough to anticipate his dragon's rising. He suspected today might even be the day and so he was at his most unstable. Just a glance could throw him into a fit, and it seemed as if everyone could sense it. He didn't want anyone to look at him. They didn't have the right. He shoved others back if they came within a foot of him and he mostly spent the day responding in grunts or growls. Even Drix kept away, mainly due to Wormtail's tales of caution. Though the Black would soon look up to the Blue for strength, he was the elder and he felt he should at least let the younger flit in on their human's behavioral habits. Drix didn't fear his human at all, but he knew better than to annoy him at this time. The two stayed in his weyr with a sleeping Ressouth. While Drix spent half the time sleeping or chirping off the ledge at passing flitters, Wormtail watched Ressouth from the shadows, tiny eyes pale with fear.
The sun was disappearing over the horizon, and many dragons were returning to their weyrs to retire for the night. Wherhandlers were preparing for 'breakfast', and Candidates were lead to their Barracks with a morning's worth of chores ahead of them. D'ix was sitting in the dining with the same cup of klah he asked for about an hour ago. His desire to move was all but wiped out. He wanted to be near no one, in peace and quiet. As Wherhandlers began to enter, he started contemplating the idea of leaving once the entrance way was clear. That day, he was excused from drills because of his dragon's absence. Healers didn't bother to offer checking her out. Either they knew she was likely to rise that evening, or they were going to give it another day because the dragon annoyed them just as much as the rider did. No one in Dalibor liked D'ix or his dragon. They never gave anyone a reason to. They were nearly as ostracized as the Renegades that were integrated into the weyr a few turns ago. That was just the way D'ix liked it.
Dreams of fire started to burn through Ressouth's sleep-calmed mind. Everything--the trees, the weyr, the stones, and the sky--all ablaze. It might have been devastation, or a disaster to any creature with the proper capacity for pity or remorse. But not Ressouth. She started the fire and danced in its flames. She watched her brothers and sisters burn with impish delight, especially that Golden mistake of a clutchsibling. They all burned, until nothing was left. Just fire and smoldering ashes, yet the cries never ceased. They called for her, with her name specifically. Ressouth has risen! Ressouth has risen! All hail! All hail the mighty queen of dragons! Yes, even as they burned. And her rider stood upon a hill glowering at the chaos with the same fire in his eyes. Smiling down upon her and proud. Proud at last.
Suddenly the scent of rain, damp and heavy, invaded her senses. Thunder in the distance rumbled, and a drizzle flashed and started to kill those flames. The dream ceased. Her eyes began to open. No fire. The sky was dark instead of orange and bright. It was raining very lightly, with the promise of a storm on its way. But the inferno that seared her heart was still stoked on high. No. This would not do. It was her time to rise, and there would be fire. She would burn everything down with flames so hot that water would never put them out.
She stood, whipping her tail indignantly and cracking the dresser that was unfortunate enough to be in its path. The pain didn't even reach through to her. The Cyan cleared a few feet with a spring to the ledge and dug her claws into the edge whilst emitting a powerful roar. CHASE! CHASE AND PREPARE TO BE BURNED! She would be taking a trial by fire to a whole new level. No average male would do for her. She was the Cyan queen, no, a goddess in her own right. Only a king would be fit for her. Not necessarily a Bronze or Iron. Even if she considered herself divinity, colors meant nothing to her. She'd be calling the kettle cyan if she did. She knew even the smallest dragon could have the biggest balls (in a matter of speaking), and she would settle for nothing less. Let those eggsacks keep their lumbering trash. Ressouth wanted real quality.
D'ix felt her before he heard her. He started to feel feverish just seconds before she woke up. If he had the strength in him, he would have crushed the cup in his hand, but he had to settle for flinging it across the hall to take satisfaction in the sound of its shattering on the wall. Several startled guests looked his way, but they knew better than to say a word. He didn't need a dragon's eyes to tell them what sort of mood he was in. Some even began moving away on instinct. Then he started for the door and they all parted, like the waves before Moses. None of them wanted to get run down. The boy was a freight train and he was headed for his weyr, where he blindly made his way to a stage on which he wanted clear of other human beings. He wasn't the one looking for a suitor, but he couldn't help losing his mind to his dragon. Part of his rage was his own, but it was being replaced by the intentions of his weyrmate.
Ressouth flew towards the pens and collided with an unfortunate herdbeast, ripping him open like a psychopath. She wasn't even eating it at first; simply flinging his organs everywhere as if she were trying to get at the ground. D'ix did not tell her to blood. It was her fault she was getting into this. He was already pissed. He didn't even think of it. Lucky for him, the Cyan was bloodthirsty. She swallowed a liver before clamping her jaws around the carcass's neck and sucking it dry, then she tossed the mangled thing aside and took off towards the bowl.
The poor bastards didn't see her coming. Nor did they have any time to anticipate her. The Cyan shoved past anyone in her path, utilizing every part of her body that was necessary to get at her goal in the swiftest possible manner. The desire to fly irked her, but her goal was infinitely more important. She dug into an exposed pile of firestone and chewed down a mouthful, whipping around a few times as she did to make sure the males weren't going to try and get fresh. Patience. They needed to be patient even if she wasn't. Turning to chew another mouthful, she swung away and sent stones flying when her tail followed suit. With a sprint and a shot into the sky, Ressouth was finally airborne. FLY, YOU FOOLS! Fly and bathe in flames with me! She let out a stream of fire to make that last part very clear. Sure, her stamina would be cut short by the extra weight inside her, but it was worth putting these lizards through a true test.
So show me what it takes To fall asleep on the eve of destruction
Set ablaze like the plague in our brooding creations Look up and align with the fire in the skies

Alatira was growing increasingly uneasy, watching her dragon stare out into the rain. She'd seen this sight a few times by now, and she knew what he was planning, what he was watching, although he said nothing to her. The black was motionless except for the slight turning of his head, scanning the Weyr for signs of his hopeful mate. His rider had given up fighting him by now, him and his infernal urge to Chase.
It didn't mean she liked it. She'd had a long day, deliberately working to tire herself out in the hopes of getting a good night's rest. For the past few sevendays, she hadn't had that, too caught up in emotional struggles that she really didn't care to think about right now. And naturally, her dragon was adding another conflict to the already raging battle that occupied her heart and her head.
"Do you have to Chase, Shiragath?" The rider's voice was weary, unwilling to try and fight her dragon's will at this hour. Her black didn't respond, staring as he was into the coming night, and he remained absolutely still until an echoing roar shattered the quiet of the damp air. Then, and only then, did he turn his head in the direction of the sound, eyes beginning to whirl red. I will take you to her weyr, he suggested abruptly, and his rider gritted her teeth, swinging herself up onto the dark neck. Shiragath launched himself into the air, broad wings sweeping wide, and unerringly glided to the cyanrider's weyr. Alatira slid from his neck, dropped onto the stone, and turned to watch as her dragon sped away. She completely ignored the man who lived here; he was none of her concern yet.
Ressouth, glowing and beautiful, was not hard to locate in her place by the firestone sacks. Shiragath was unfazed by the sight of her devouring the stuff, and he drifted in lazy circles, waiting for her to finish. He knew better than to get too close before she even took off, and he intended to be very careful during this Flight. Depriving His of her dragon was not something he wanted to do -- but he did want to chase this bloodthirsty beauty. And he did, the second she sprang into the sky: one of his wings snapped half-shut, bringing him around to face her, and then he shot forward, silent as ever. But his blood was singing with tension: he knew that playing with fire was likely to get him burned. He didn't care. Alatira, standing motionless on D'ix's weyrledge, didn't care either once she lost control to her dragon. She twisted to face him, glassy gaze locking onto his face, but she said nothing and thought less. Their dragons would sing this ballad of fire; she had no obligation to narrate.

It was a nice evening. I'tier had finished his evening meal a candlemark or so earlier, and wing drills even before that. The rest of the day was left free for him and Verith to relax. Calm evenings were a tradition with the pair; whenever they could, they would simply sit there, watch the sun go down, and occupy themselves with whatever lazy tasks they saw fit. I'tier was strumming his guitar idly, not really putting any effort into being brilliant. If any sort of intriguing tune came to him, though, he'd pursue it a little, putting a few half-thought-out lyrics to them. You should sing a song about me, Verith had suggested earlier, looking at His with wide, adoring eyes. As a result, most of the words I'tier mumbled out were something along the lines of "big lazy blue," or just Verith's name over and over. Both of them enjoyed silly little songs like that; there was much laughter that evening.
Eventually, I'tier's wandering songs slowed down, and soon he set his guitar aside. Verith had dozed off; the blue's sides expanded calmly. I'tier allowed himself to simply watch the sky outside from his bed. It had started to rain, if barely. He liked the rain. The hushed patter of raindrops from outside was a welcome noise. He took deep breaths, trying to time his with Verith's, smelling the earthy scent. He loved the smell of rain; to him, it was beautiful, a marriage of land and sky. He saw dark wet spots forming on the lip of the weyrledge, imagining a time where Verith had stuck his head outside, only to pull it back and be sopping wet. I'tier was just about ready to fall asleep himself, but just as he closed his eyes, Verith shot upward.
CHASE! CHASE AND PREPARE TO BE BURNED! The cyan's voice rang through Verith's head. On his feet now, he swayed, and turned whirling eyes to his rider.
Verith? What is it? I'tier asked, jolted fully awake by his startled dragon.
I'm... I'm not scared! Verith protested, but he was. It showed in the pale hues of fear that mixed in his eyes. N-not at all. I'm not. But... Ressouth's upset. [/i] Ressouth? I'tier stood. Admittedly, he was a little worried. He had a sneaking suspicion as to what this was all about; why else would Ressouth bespeak Verith? Verith had never Chased before. Of all firsts to choose... Ressouth? Why Ressouth? Everyone knew the cyan. She and her rider were infamous among the Windweavers. I'tier respected them, since they were living creatures like him, but that didn't mean he liked them. There was never any reason to be so angry all the time - not with a world as beautiful as this one. I... I've got to help Ressouth, Verith said, a feeble try and determination in his voice. I'tier did not argue; he simply rushed to his dragon's side and clambered up behind Verith's third neckridge. I don't want her to be so upset! The blue scrambled out of his weyr and clawed through the air. His claws clicked and slid on the slick surface of Ressouth's weyrledge, and as soon as I'tier was off, he leapt into the sky. I'tier swayed on his feet and stumbled into the dry part of the weyr. As Verith flew, his emotions intensified. The blue was scared and concerned at the same time, but he meant well. Ressouth had always been an angry sort of dragon... Now, she was more upset than ever, and it stabbed Verith in the heart. He was a sensitive soul - he couldn't stand to see her so mad. She needed to calm down. She needed to stop being such an ugly, unlikable dragon and calm down, and he wanted to help her do that. He needed to. And his need to help the cyan translated into lust in I'tier. D'ix was so different from him, so wild and forceful. His temperature was rising as he looked at the man across the room. So different... It was amazing. The intense lust coming from his rider confused Verith. It was too similar to what he was feeling... was it lust he was feeling? Something else? He couldn't quite figure it all out. He was feeling a great deal of things, and he was already getting stressed because of it, but he forced his body to keep flying. He could see Ressouth in front of him. He felt the cool rain on his hide, but inside, he was too hot for comfort. Then, Ressouth screamed at him again. The fire that spewed from her mouth scared him; made him falter. FLY, YOU FOOLS! Fly and bathe in flames with me!I'm already f-flying! Verith choked. She really needed to calm down! He hated how angry she was. What, did she have no self control? She probably just hated everybody. Verith just wanted to fix that. He just wanted Ressouth to be happy... calm and happy. If only he could catch her! Then he could help her...[/size][/blockquote]

Feeroneth was napping. Or had been, honestly, for the slender purple was waking up, stretching massively (or as massively as a purple about the size of a large yellow could). His wings spread out as far as they could, and each eyelid blinked back until Feeroneth arched his back, scrunching up and finally turned towards His, pinkish head tilted to the side. T'larMine, why are you sleeping? I want a bath! I can't be appreciated for my beauty if I'm dirty! [/i] The purple bent to cleanse his feet of some imaginary dirt, flexing his claws against the stone as he did so to ensure that there wasn't any dirt on his feet that he'd missed before. T'lar wasn't sleeping, actually, but shot Feeroneth a baleful look all the same when the purple's voice reached his mind all the same, "I was only almost asleep..." T'lar muttered, groaning to himself as he slowly sat up, a yawn escaping him as he slid out from under the furs, glaring at Feeroneth. You can't go out like that![/i] Feeroneth sounded aghast at the idea, recoiling from the sight of T'lar's wrinkled clothes. Get changed right now![/i] Feeroneth demanded, looking exceedingly offended. Sure, appearances weren't everything, but they did matter and today was going to be important! Huffing, Feeroneth continued to stare at T'lar until the man stalked away to get dressed, muttering loudly as he went about how they weren't going anywhere. T'lar returned, changed, and Feeroneth examined him, and then sniffed. You will have to do.[/i] Feeroneth decided firmly, his voice seeming to come from a million miles away. T'lar recognized the symptoms almost immediately. Lust. There was going to be another Flight, it seemed. Of course. That was just his luck. Rolling his eyes, T'lar glared at Feeroneth. "No. You are not chasing whoever this female is!" As always (did he ever learn from the past?), T'lar expected Feeroneth to simply bend to his will and remain curled in their weyr until whatever Flight it was was over. No! Ressouth calls! I must answer![/i] The purple gave a bugling cry towards the beautiful cyan, then glanced towards His. Come. I will give you a ride and then I will chase! She deserves someone as beautiful as I![/i] Feeroneth waiting until His was settled upon his back, then launched himself into the air, wings beating to carry him towards Ressouth's weyr. Well, at least the purple wasn't making T'lar walk to the rider's weyr, as he often did, T'lar figured with a sigh as he slid down from Feeroneth's back, the thought already fading into the misty darkness of his mind. What had he been thinking about? T'lar didn't fight the lust and instead leaned back against the stone wall, staring at the cyan's rider with an intent gaze. The rider was . . . beautiful? That was the best word for the cyanrider, T'lar thought mistily as he stared at the cyanrider. He didn't know the man's name, but T'lar knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that he wanted the man. Or Feeroneth wanted his dragon? Did it matter? They were practically one and the same, despite T'lar's inhibitions about the male rider, which had been stuffed into some faraway corner of his mind. Feeroneth, meanwhile, simply watched Ressouth, basking in her beauty. Someone as lovely as her deserved someone as beautiful as him! Sure, being beautiful was typically a feminine attribute, but you couldn't deny beauty when you saw it! And Feeroneth was beautiful, right? Right? And Ressouth was beautiful as well! She wasn't as beautiful as Feeroneth, but . . . She was beautiful, even as she devoured the firestone, and Feeroneth remained still, watching her until she launched herself into the air. The rain against his hide hardly bothered him as he watched intently, waiting for the signal, waiting for Ressouth to summon them into the air. And sure enough, it came. FLY, YOU FOOLS! Fly and bathe in flames with me! And with that, Ressouth was in the air, a stream of fire issuing from her muzzle that Feeroneth watched intently. Feeroneth bugled, throwing himself after her. He was no fighter, and certainly wasn't as fast in the air after her. Being the only purple in Ressouth's Flight so far was going to leave him with some disadvantages, but how could she not choose him? He was beautiful, she was beautiful, they obviously belonged together! Feeroneth didn't remember any of his other failed Flights. Ressouth was all that mattered. She was all that made his heart beat in that moment. She had to pick him! The other dragons were pitiful, ugly excuses for dragons! They didn't matter, they didn't deserve the beauty that was her! Obviously, Feeroneth was the most beautiful of her chasers! Ressouth had to pick him! It was the only option, the only outcome, that made sense, Feeroneth figured. After that, however, he focused his attention completely on Ressouth, tuning her other suitors out. She was the only thing that mattered in the world! That was how beautiful she was! She had to pick him! Two beautiful dragons had to be companions![/size][/blockquote]

Ressouth glared at her suitors as they arrived, betraying none of her silent satisfaction as they joined the ranks of the possibly damned. Black Shiragath had the guts to face her as he took his position, and her only response was to cough up a small flame where he hovered not seconds before. She needed to keep them all on their toes, because she would not make herself as easy and available as her Gold sister surely would some day. She was absolutely nothing like her! She was the true, spitting image of perfection! No other fighter took her attributes as seriously as she did! All of those dancing, singing, witless sisters of her's have weakened these males. She could tell as Verith joined the fray--frightened, uncertain, and skiddish in nature. Brave perhaps, or extremely stupid. Ressouth spun round on the two males and shook them up by striking past them and curving around, just in time to hear the call of a third suitor, and behold one of the Pinkest Purples that resided at Dalibor. So this is what it comes down to? Curse those clutching females and their pathetic offspring. If fighters were able to clutch, only true warriors would stain the skies with their hides.
The Cyan shot away from the three and took the lead, building up speed whilst burdened by the weight in her stomach. In retrospect, if she had been in her right mind, she would have realized this was a terrible idea in practice. With only a couple of good charges left in her, she had to make them count soon if she wanted them to count for anything. She took the chase up, up, and up before changing her mind and spinning downwards. With rocks in her belly she swung round and let loose a wall of flame towards the three while they were diving after her. It'd take either an expert maneuver or a ballsy charge through fire at this point. She doubted the ones closest to her would be able to attempt the former with any success. As Ressouth turned away and began to level her flight out, she coughed up a small puff of ashes. This wasn't good. In her passionate ascent, she forgot about the fact that she would have to discard the used up firestone in her stomach. Now was not the time. She cried out, against her silly limitations, and held her breath for as long as she could on the matter. She would make at least one more good flame before giving in. She wanted a proper test for her mates. One wall of fire was simply not enough. She had to save the last charge for the one male who thought himself worthy when he most certainly wasn't.
Back on the ground, D'ix was lost to the flight and barely aware of other presences in the room. He felt the same rage, lust, and intentions as his glorious Cyan. Combined with his initial reluctance, he was in a volatile state. As people entered his room, he vaguely noted their presence and scowled when the last of them showed up. None of them appealed to him. He wanted them all to stay away from him. If they really wanted to be anywhere near, they had to prove themselves worthy. He backed away from Alatira, eyes on her yet beyond her. Then he swung around to see I'tier and T'lar, giving the both of them looks that were just as unfriendly. What were they doing? Standing around? Staring? Why? They weren't doing at thing! He'd make them move. He'd put their loyalties to the test.
Ressouth was feeling just the same. Like her suitors weren't doing enough for her. At the moment she took it all in silence, but the anger building up inside her was only amplified by the pain in her gullet. The next turn of this flight would be a dangerous one. Someone was surely getting hurt if they haven't been already.

Shiragath did not fail to miss the flame that Ressouth spat at the spot where he'd just been, and a flicker of nerves tensed his body. She was dangerous, oh yes -- but she was so beautiful. She and the flames that could burn him so easily... he loved them both. Even when the cyan shot by him, sending a spurt of adrenaline into his veins, the black couldn't help but want her. Obviously she meant to threaten, to frighten, to challenge -- but he rose to it admirably, refusing to back down despite his pounding heart.
Not a single move she made went unnoticed. Eyes swirling red and violet, Shiragath tracked every one of Ressouth's motions, not missing a single twitch, a single wingbeat. He followed her into the sky, ignoring the other suitors -- he was older than the blue, and had lost other Flights alongside the purple. Neither were worthy of his consideration right now, not with the cyan beauty climbing into the sky above him, and so he cut them both out of his focus.
Attentiveness proved to be a good thing. Never mindless even in the worst of situations, the black noticed instantly when the female dropped down and began to spin earthward. Knowing her danger and embracing it, he reacted instantly when she spat flame towards her suitors. While he was close to her, closer than he would like to the flame, he was also an expert flier. Broad wings snapped wide and flung him higher into the air, buying him the precious split-second he needed to whip himself aside and avoid being set alight. It was a near miss, though; the heat scorched his belly as he rushed by it, even if he managed to avoid the flames themselves.
It hurt. Focused as he was on Ressouth, Shiragath nonetheless noticed the pain, and the resultant twinge of concern from his rider. He brushed off both, reabsorbing Alatira's consciousness into his as he shot after the cyan. Though he couldn't really remember, he had a vague feeling that this had happened before: another female had decided to make her Flight dangerous. That was why he had those scars on him now... she'd thought he wasn't doing enough, wasn't that right?
Even if he couldn't remember the sensation of claws ripping into him, it wasn't hard to imagine. Instantly the black shifted away from passive chasing, and lunged after the cyan, throwing caution almost to the winds. While he still didn't speak, and gave no stupid roar to announce his intentions, he began almost to dance for her - spiraling through the air, twisting, lunging, darting from side to side. Part of it was a desire to show off and show her what a good flier he was, but it went deeper than that: he was afraid of her flames, and he didn't want them to touch him. He'd been flying fast for the entire Flight, but now he kicked it up a notch, darting through the air with a speed his fellow suitors couldn't hope to match. He registered their presences only enough not to collide with them: the show he put on was all for Ressouth. Dip, dive, spin, twist, roll: every wingstroke brought him closer to her, but he wasn't foolish enough to try and capture her while she still had firestone hot in her belly. No, the black was too canny for that: he brought himself closer and closer, pushing himself as hard as he could to both keep up and display every acrobatic maneuver he'd ever learned. Surely it would count for something; at the very least his constant maneuvering might keep him from getting set alight should she take a dislike to him or another of her suitors.
In D'ix's weyr, Alatira stayed where she'd been set down, out on the other rider's weyrledge. She barely registered the arrival of the other competitors, her glazed eyes fixed only on the cyanrider. The blackrider was as intent as her dragon, but in a different way: though she burned with lust the same as he did, it was somehow not the same, though she couldn't explain how or why. She didn't care to attempt it. Her bonded's wariness extended to her; she jerked back when Ressouth's flame singed at her black's belly, snapping momentarily out of her trance. She twisted to face the rain, looking for Shiragath, before his consciousness once more assimilated her own, and she lost control again.
His dancing and darting infected her, too, but she hardly moved. When she did, it wasn't in the swift, erratic movements of Shiragath: her motions were slow and deliberate, cautious as his were not. Less a dancer than a predator, she drifted nearer to D'ix, pale eyes gleaming with lust. Easy movements, slow and easy -- she approached him, drawing closer at the same rate that her dragon did to Ressouth. No fear, now, just an animal wariness to keep her alive. What he was thinking she didn't know, didn't care. All she knew was that she wanted to get closer, just as Shiragath wanted to get closer to his cyan beauty, and everything she did was towards that end. Just getting closer... hunting him, as Shiragath hunted Ressouth. In her, it was far more obvious.

Verith snarled. It was an unnatural look on the sensitive blue's face, but it was all he felt like right now. The overwhelming tangle of emotions was bothering him. Yes, he wanted to help Ressouth; yes, he hoped that Shiragath and Feeroneth made it out of this okay because he cared about everyone; yes, he was scared witless by the very cyan he was chasing, but the fact still remained that he was chasing her and he wasn't going to quit. I'tier always told him that his worrying would be the end of him. Here, Verith acknowledged that. He couldn't keep worrying. Worrying made his flying sloppy; made him weak. He wasn't going to get stupid Ressouth to relax if he couldn't even catch her! He was snarling partly at her, for making this so difficult, and at himself for being so soft.
He would have liked to ignore Shiragath and Feeroneth, but he couldn't. Even the subtlest movements they made were caught by Verith's keen senses. It made things harder, since his attention was unwillingly split three ways. The black and purple were his competition. He respected them, of course, but he really needed to catch Ressouth. What were they in it for, anyways? They just wanted Ressouth because she was Flying. Verith needed to help her. In fact, as far as he was concerned, she had needed his help since they had both been born. She'd been scary then, too. She had shoved him. It was that shove from the stupid cyan that made him run to His I'tier because he had been startled. She was smaller than him then, and still was! She should have been weaker because she was a girl. He was stronger because he was a male. A blue. He was going to give her a piece of his mind by catching her - someone needed to tell Ressouth how much she needed to calm the shells down.
He followed her devoutly. There was passion coursing through his veins as his wings carried himself upwards, higher and higher after the beautiful monster of a dragoness. Shiragath was ahead of him, Feeroneth somewhere beside or behind, and Ressouth, always in front. And then she dropped. It all happened in a flash; she began to fall, and then flipped around, spewing fire straight at them. Verith let out a terrified cry. His gut reaction to move was not quite enough. He twisted out of the way, but he was still falling. His leg and tail were caught by the edges of the licking flames and he screamed. She smell of burning flesh trailed behind him, but he couldn't stop. He was already headed downward. He had to follow Ressouth.
But he was fed up. She was being so ridiculous! So angry! Childish! Mean! And she was so stupid, too, for swallowing all those rocks before a flight. Verith snarled again, a loud bark leaping from his throat. She needed to calm down! He couldn't stand seeing her so upset, and dragons were getting hurt because of her! Did she not notice? Or did she just not care? Neither of those reasons were any good. Brash courage was swelling up in Verith's stomach and in his aching muscles. He couldn't take it anymore.
You... You're so infuriating! Verith choked, lust-filled eyes glued to the cyan as he chased her. You drive me crazy, Ressouth! You're so... so angry! And stupid, and mean! And no, I'm not giving up, actually, because you know what? I want you, and even though you scare me, I'm not leaving. He felt a renewed energy inside himself. He felt incredibly invigorated after finally speaking his mind. He didn't care if she burned him up or made him bleed. At least he had told her what he thought of her. He was just being honest. Perhaps she would admire his honesty or his dumb bravery. Perhaps she wouldn't. It was all up in the air, and that's all Verith could say for certain. But Faranth, he really wanted to catch her. He'd let her simmer down, do whatever she wanted to do him, and he'd close his eyes when she had to cough up her used firestone, since he knew that he, personally, would be a little embarrassed. He'd do all of that, just for her, if he could catch her. But if he couldn't, well... too bad. She could be dumb and angry with someone else.
Everything Verith felt was transferred to I'tier's human body. The pain, the lust, the energy. I'tier's mouth was watering, his heart pumping ever faster. The very thought of D'ix made his body ache and throb in the most delightful way. There was a soft, seductive smirk on his face as he slowly moved towards the other man. He took his time, keeping his distance as if to tease D'ix. He was also teasing himself, really; all he wanted was to grab the cyanrider right then and there, but he couldn't let himself do that yet. He still had to wait... He was still in the sky, still Verith, still chasing. [/blockquote]

Feeroneth was completely unaware of her distaste for him in his haze of lust and the rather illogical convictions that the beautiful cyan had to love him. The fact that anyone could dislike him didn't occur to him at all. It made no sense! Feeroneth was amazing and fashionable and beautiful and surely Ressouth recognized that! The purple chased her quietly. He was small for a purple, and that gave him an added edge when chasing a cyan like the lovely Ressouth, but Feeroneth was not as maneuverable as the black and the blue that also chased Ressouth. Feeroneth wasn't going to let that stop him, though!
Ressouth flew upwards, so Feeroneth followed. His wings beat powerfully, carrying the lavender shaded purple upwards as he chased and chased. The travel upwards was hard, but not as hard as Callistath's Flight. However, the golden queen's Flight could not have been father from his mind. The moment that Feeroneth lost Callistath's Flight, she was forgotten. His worship of the beautiful golden queen in that moment had been quickly replaced by his worship of this equally beautiful cyan. Her vicious mannerisms simply made her all the more beautiful and that was all there was to it, in Feeroneth's mind. His wings snapped powerfully to drive Feeroneth upwards after Ressouth.
And then she was going down, spinning. Feeroneth, in all of his self-absorbed Feeroneth-ness, didn't realize what was going on until the flames blossomed out of her mouth, headed straight for her suitor. The purple gave a startled cry and did his best to dodge. This was where his size was even more of a disadvantage than before. Feeroneth didn't manage to get away, not by a long shot. The flames connected with his form, and while Feeroneth managed to get his wings and most of his upper body out of the way, the flames licked at his tail and his front legs. The smell of burning hide from multiple sources reached Feeroneth's nose and the purple hissed to himself as he struggled to right his flight path around he pain.
It was hard to think straight. Feeroneth's judgement was definitely compromised by the pain, but he still followed Ressouth. Her beauty was hypnotizing and sang louder than the pain that filled his body, drawing him onwards. He could still fly, so he was still going to chase! Feeroneth wasn't going to lose. Not now, not ever. He was beautiful and she was beautiful and couldn't she see that he was beautiful? Of course she could. She had to be able to!
That conviction was what gave Feeroneth the strength to continue to chase, despite the pain. And it did hurt.
Feeroneth snarled softly at the black's dancing. The other male came close to colliding with the purple a few times and it wasn't fair! That stupid black could dance and Feeroneth couldn't and it . . . wasn't fair! If Shiragath's dancing proved to be more beautiful than Feeroneth himself was...
No, he couldn't think like that! He just had to show Ressouth that even though Shiragath could pull off a few fancy moves, Feeroneth was more beautiful! Beauty went with beauty, so obviously, Feeroneth would have to win Ressouth. That was the only thing that made sense, particularly in this topsy turvy flight! And his feet and tail hurt. Feeroneth wasn't going to let that distract him, though! He was going to see this through to the end and he was going to win!
Of course, Feeroneth was beginning to lag behind both Shiragath and Verith. He was both tiring and hurting and that didn't make for a good combination when one was chasing a dragoness as dangerous as Ressouth. [/blockquote]

The boys were still trying, even after all the grief Ressouth was promising to put them through. Inside her, the stones underwent their rapid chemical changes and plagued her with a pain akin to heartburn. She was not done testing the limits of her suitors. Though it hurt her to twist around, the Cyan did just that. Black Shiragath was showing off his agility, Blue Verith DARED to challenge her, and Purple Feeroneth was still failing to impress or offend her in the slightest. How he failed to stand out at all! It was worse than attempting to show off or tell off. He was mocking her with his silence, thinking it would be easy to win her. What, because of his size? Because he was a Sub-King? Noooo he had it all wrong. She would push him the hardest to make sure he was worthy of the Cyan queen. Nothing lesser would do!
Snapping her wings out and turning towards the lumbering Purple, she was speeding right at him as if fixing to collide. At the last moment, a glint in her eyes, she ascended just above him while blasting down at him with the last of those vicious flames. It wasn't as strong a shot as the other two, nor was it close enough to kill the creature. Phosphine poisoning was serious business. But to scare him--to set him straight--it was all she was truly aiming for. She wasn't going to add murder to her list of offenses that evening, no matter how careless her actions were. Ressouth was, after all, an intelligent creature. She might have been a rash at the start of this flight, but she was not going to charge down the path of destruction.
Turning away from the preoccupied Purple, her attention switched to the ballsy Verith, who dared to speak against her like some condescending adult. He was no older than she was! Who was he to boss her around? Couldn't he see that this had nothing to do with him? This was supposed to be a test alright, so all because he stepped out of line, he wasn't going to be disqualified. Still, she had to teach him a lesson. She had to put him through his own trial. How dare you, Verith! I am as brilliant as they come! I will not settle for a weak mate! I am not like my sisters to any extent! She started to dart towards him, fixing to hit him with whatever was left. She could not produce another flame with the ashes choking up her insides, so instead, she spewed those very ashes before him, obscuring his sight and turning swiftly away to leave him in the dust.
She was still hurting, exhausted from carrying those stones inside her. She had to be more enduring than that. Taking a quick note of Shiragath, she swerved away from him and tried to put as much distance between her and the Black as possible. She had nothing left for him but her own claws, but suddenly she felt the need to flee rather than to fight. The two males she attacked would be recovering soon, so she suspected, so she feared. She didn't really mean for any of them to win. They couldn't! She was too great for the lot of them! She hissed, then she tried to roar, but instead began to cough up more ashes in a small fit. Ressouth had weakened herself! No! she cried out indignantly, between choking up on dust and trying to fly away as fast as she could carry herself. You're not ready! None of you! Keep away from me! She wanted them, but she couldn't admit it. She wouldn't. She was far too proud a dragon to do so.
D'ix eyed both I'tier and Alatira as if they were preparing to murder him. He took a step back, then two forward to growl at them defiantly, but was slowly and surely being backed into a corner. He had mixed feelings about this, just like his dragon. He wanted to choose one, but he was too proud to do so. And the way they eyed him like a piece of meat was both unnerving and a turn on. Then he shifted forward to shove them away so he could retreat to another corner and make his decision without their hovering. He wanted to leave the room. If they really wanted to have him, they'd give chase. He wasn't prepared to go down for any of them, but at the same time, he would have been lying if he claimed not to want it. He felt tired, sick, and conflicted. Any minute now the flight would surely come to an end, but someone else would have to be making the decision for them.

In the corner of his eye, he saw the flash of fire as Ressouth went for Feeroneth. Verith's heart clenched up, and for a second he free-fell through the air before his wings began to work again. He hoped the purple was alright, and if he wasn't... Well, that was why he was chasing Ressouth. She needed to learn a few lessons of her own. Verith had meant to be kind about it - he really had - but there was no room for that anymore. Each move Ressouth made was the last straw and the blue snapped a little more each time. What had he been thinking, anyways? He couldn't help Ressouth with kindness. She wouldn't respond to it. He should have known that! Ugh, he was just as stupid as she was. Watching Feeroneth get attacked and Shiragath show off, he realized that they were all pretty stupid. He was just being honest.
Then, Ressouth turned on him. Her voice was screaming into his head, and all he wanted was for it to go away. I'm not weak and neither are you! he snapped, but there was doubt in the back of his mind. Was he weak? He was a blue. A male. Sturdily built. He shouldn't have been weak... Ressouth definitely wasn't weak and she was even smaller than he was, and a female! At least, she wasn't usually weak, but she had flown with all of those stones in her gut and he could tell she was tiring. In pain. Dumb to have swallowed firestone before a flight! It was original, he would admit, but dumb. He moved to surge forth, to rush at her while she was close, and then he couldn't see.
His eyes stung. Ashes had exploded forth from Ressouth's mouth, rendering him blind and in pain. His second eyelids had closed reflexively, but a split second too late. He shrieked, writhing in the air. His burned leg and tail and his eyes all combined into a throbbing pain that gave him little room to think. He hated that she was so angry! He hated that it was partly his fault! Everyone just needed to calm down, or dragons were going to keep getting hurt! He cried out again, thrashing, trying to see through the cloud of dust. Eventually, he fell far enough that the ashes abandoned him; through irritated eyes he could see Ressouth flying away. He saw more ashes spewing from her maw. He saw that she needed to quit, to fall with someone, but she wasn't going to.
She yelled at them again. Told them to go away. You're not ready, she had said, and pain sparked in Verith's injuries and in his chest. Not ready? Wasn't he ready? Maybe he wasn't. Maybe she was right. Maybe Ressouth, as dumb as she was, as mean as she was, was right. But did it really matter if he was ready? He didn't even know how he could possibly tell when he was ready. The only way to know was to try. It was better to regret having done something than to regret not having done it in the first place. Partly blind, barely thinking, Verith gave a final push forward. The harsh wind and the cold rain bit at his exposed flesh, but he didn't care. All he cared about was Ressouth.
I just want to make you happy! he barked, voice aching with the sheer amount of sincerity he felt. With a feral snarl, he collided hard with the weakening cyan. He twined his tail with hers, pain lancing through him as bare nerves touched foreign flesh. He grabbed hold of her body, her wings, her neck. He didn't bother crooning to her - he knew it wouldn't help. He had her now, and that was all that mattered. Maybe she'd like him, just for these few moments. Maybe she would feel good. Calm down. Be with him. This was what he had wanted: a chance at Ressouth and a chance to change her. If it didn't work, oh well. If she hated him, it would be no different than any other day. It was all up in the air as they fell. Verith wasn't ready for any of it, but he'd deal with life as it came.
In the dry darkness of the weyr, I'tier moved to D'ix before anyone else could get to him. He grabbed the man's collar and drew him in. He kissed his choice long and hard, pressing his body tight up against him. He throbbed with lust. Verith had taken Ressouth for his own and I'tier had taken D'ix, but the bluerider shifted his lover so that he, instead, was the one up against the wall. He still held D'ix's collar, but a sultry smirk of submission had crept across his face. Unlike his dragon, I'tier was entirely ready. Come what may, and come all dragonlust, he could at least say that he would enjoy this. [/blockquote]

She thought the Blue was done. Ressouth was more wary of the Black left unscathed than the two she sabotaged. She hadn't believed him. In her mind, other dragons couldn't compare to her strength. Physically, she was no force to be reckoned with, but she was devious and cunning. She was ruthless. She was not going to be an easy mark for anyone to take advantage of. Chest burning in pain, the Cyan huffed out another cloud of ashes before spiraling down and out, away from the males with Shiragath most in mind.
When it was Verith's noise that screamed into her mind again, she couldn't resist looking back. A near-fatal mistake. The Blue she thought subdued was closing the distance between them at an alarming rate. His eyes were irritated, but his aim was true. Ressouth cried out indignantly and attempted to turn and out-fly him, but it was already too late. He collided into her, wrapping himself around the feisty female before she could squirm out of his grasp. Release me! Release me now! Y-you can't have--you shouldn't have! She hissed and thrashed a few times, but it caused her more pain to resist, and the feelings of lust that started this disaster grew exponentially. Ressouth began to relax. She refused however, to be happy simply because Verith demanded it. You'll make me happy, she growled, the tone of her voice now civil, yet resolute. An order. Something she was willing to follow through with as long as Verith understood--Ressouth bowed to no dragon's will. Turning her tail and fleeing was one thing, but succumbing was another. She did enough of that with Hers. Forgetting the other males, mainly for the fact that they stopped mattering the moment the Blue was victorious, Ressouth did exactly as the Blue wanted. She calmed down. Only under the condition that he would do as she demanded. If he failed to impress her, she would surely make him sorry.
D'ix's eyes snapped to I'tier as the Bluerider moved towards him, faster than he had done before. Coming in for the kill, no doubt. The Cyanrider was already cornered, which was no mistake, but his decision was being made for him and he was no less prouder than his dragon was. Grabbed by the collar and drawn into a kiss, D'ix bit back defensively, but the attack was nothing but a sudden stab of passion. He didn't want to remain dominated. Like Ressouth, the terms were his own, no matter who the victor happened to be. I'tier was just lucky he got the picture before D'ix slammed him back into the wall instead. He kissed back hungrily, forgetting the other riders in the room and himself entirely. If he had even the foggiest recollection of the man he was supposed to be, he would have thrown the Bluerider out and dealt with the lust some other way. Without help. Without strangers all over him. Yet he came to terms with this, long before his dragon's maiden flight. Because she was a Cyan, this would be happening to him often. It was far better to give in than to be aware of your own vulnerability.
