Oh, better far to live and die Under the brave black flag I fly, Than play a sanctimonious part, With a pirate head and a pirate heart. Away to the cheating world go you, Where pirates all are well-to-do; But I’ll be true to the song I sing, And live and die a Pirate King.
As much as she loved swimming with her First Mate and partner in crime, there was something she had to attend to. Something most definitely not right with her and she didn’t like it in the slightest. It had been a while since she had seen her HumanLoot and Hearty almost sort of missed the trio she had left behind. As much as she loved being a captain of these waters in the lake, she liked being a captain on land too. At the moment, the Brass Merpillie was guarding her loot, or at least she thought he was. Hearty was getting slower and slower in the water. Yes, it was time that she put her new loot on land, somewhere no one could find it, where it would remain with her always but not in her cave of loot, no, this would have to go in a special place. A cove where there were numerous caves.
Therefore, Hearty swam her way to the shore, blinking in the bright daylight and looked about for the perfect place where she might leave her loot where it would never be found by any. The amber was slower than normal, as she scuttled her way along the shoreline, away from her cave of loot and towards another spot. There she stopped, almost wanting to sleep where she was but no. There was something she had to do first. Arrrrr!! ARRRRRR!!!!
Yalenia paused, just as Threepwood did and the two looked at one another having heard the familiar shouts from somewhere nearby. It had been a long time since they had seen the pillie but none could mistake that call. None could ever think that call was from another pillie. They had only to find the sharding thing. Hearty had become most adept at hiding, well, anywhere, she was a sneaky sort and generally managed to hide from everyone. Yalenia knew what would come, Hearty would have to clutch somewhere and to be honest? She did not want the amber bonding to upwards of twenty pillies. Thus, with renewed haste, she ran about the lake, Guybrush flying ahead examining every little detail he could see. Threepwood strayed behind, picking up anything Guybrush might have missed and collecting it in the bag Yal had given the blue. It was daytime and she was the most tired she had been in a long time, trying to ensure she wouldn’t wind up with twenty pillies because Hearty hid them all.
It was a bugle from BlueLoot that made Hearty look up and hiss. No! These were hers!! For Hearty sat on a mound of eggs, and protectively moved her body trying to hide the treasures from view. The other BlueLoot appeared and as happy as she was to see them, she hadn’t at all wanted to see them now. She especially didn’t want to see her HumanLoot at this point. Why couldn’t they just leave her alone!? This was her treasure and they were going to steal it again. It was a large area, enough to fit a number of people but sheltered mostly from the view of predators and humans. Unfortunately, not sheltered enough. As Yalenia approached, Hearty called a fierce warning, causing the female to retreat a little. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
These were all hers! All of them! She even swatted at the firelizards fiercly, trying to bat them away from her pile of treasure but some movement distracted her. Arr? As she looked down at the bottom of her pile, the one nearest Guybrush she noticed the movements of one of the pieces of treasure. No! Stop! Nooooo!!! But the shell cracked and something tumbled forth! The newest member of her crew surely! The blue looked about dazedly for a moment, and then spotted Threepwood near his face. Feelers moved as he tried to figure out what this thing was. As he turned, all this was forgotten when he saw the disordered chaos behind him. Nnnnnnnnnnn? Nn nn nn. Nn. With that declaration, the blue started trying to get to his sibling’s eggs, trying to push them into rows. This disordered chaos simply would not do! He could not have this at all. Rows and columns were best and he could not have it any other way. Things had to be perfect.
Hearty hissed and tried to bat her offspring away from her treasure. He would be keelhauled for disobeying his captain. No doubt about that. But he had already managed to take three of the eggs and push them into a row. As he worked he softly made noises, before examining his work and trying yet again to have them in perfect rows. Hearty, fed up with this, scuttled down from her mound and tried to push the blue away from the three eggs just as he managed to grab another one. The Amber managed to push the eggs back where they were meant to be but heard another cracking noise. No! Although if this one was a better crewmember than the last she wouldn’t mind so much. Thus it was that Hearty began a futile battle with her offspring to try to keep her eggs on the pile whilst he tried to organise them into rows from smallest to biggest but she was distracted by the sounds of cracking as she moved about her pile, looking for the culprit.
Quietly, Yalenia sent Guybrush and Threepwood away to find the nearest dragon and send them an image of the hatching. Thus it was, that the blue found Pink Agnith and sent her a detailed image of the surrounding area and all that was occurring within it. Guybrush managed to find a black wher who gave him one confused look before a pink firelizard assisted him, KISK AM BE SEE BUGS!! AM SEE! FIND BUGS SAY KISK BE BEST KISK!!! ONLY DAY SO NO WHER! NO SEE NO WHER!!! KISK AM SLEEP! He didn’t announce it to the whole Weyr, only those minds he knew such as Aylina, Kalenna, Rethalt and Oren. Of course, knowing Kisk a few minds were probably caught in the crossfire considering his lack of concentration.
However, Guybrush and Vesta flew around the Weyr looking for people to inform of this momentous occasion, very slowly for Vesta insisted on cleaning and Guybrush insisted upon examining every small thing around them. Threepwood hoped Agnith would understand the message, she would be able to get people faster than the firelizards.
Back at the hatching cove, Hearty had resumed her battle with the blue very unsuccessfully as there were not at least seven eggs lined in a row.
When I sally forth to seek my prey I help myself in a royal way. I sink a few more ships, it’s true, Than a well-bred monarch ought to do; But many a king on a first-class throne, If he wants to call his crown his own, Must manage somehow to get through More dirty work than ever I do.

It shouldn't be all that surprising to find that Anibrith had a habit of listening to everyone's conversations in the Weyr that she could manage, even the whers. When you're a highly social green that thinks everyone is your best friend, and as the best part you forget half of what you hear anyway, you just didn't think twice about listening in. Besides, Anibrith was a good listener. So, when Kisk found out about the eggs and shouted the information to a few others, Anibrith chirped in glee. Hers and she could use another friend that wasn't going to take over the world with their mutated minisucelness! Was that even a word? Probably not....MINEMINEMINEMINEMINEMINE!!!!!!!!
Laelia, inside the Weyr sitting down helping Belle to clean up sighed and shook her head. What did you hear, find, now Ani? By now the Weyrling was used to the green randomly shouting her name and then quickly not recalling the big news. However, this wasn't one of those times....than Faranth. Laelia my love, my heart! Kisk...I think it's Kisk...maybe it's Kask? NO! Doesn't matter, crazy Anibrith! Anyway....uh, uh, uh............……OH YEAH! He's a wher, nice wher...a bit off. Anyway! He says there are Pillie eggs somewhere, um, ummmmmmmr....HERE!!!
Laelia winced from the onslaught of sensations and pictures Anibrith gave to her mind, calming Belle down as well. The fire lizard had woken up from her oiling daze to trill unhappily. LargeOne was being LargeOne again. Chirping she tugged on Laelia's sleeve with her jaws. Come Mine, come! Giving in, Laelia pushed her hair back from her face and stored the piling supplies away. Please Mine, please hurry. We want one, and by we I mean myself and LittleDragonThing. So, pleeeeaaaaase!!! Calm down Anibrith, I'm going to the place now.
Scooping Belle up onto her shoulder the girl headed out to the given location, stopping a bit away to give the Pillie some room. It was big, bigger than Laelia had thought its be. Biting her lip, the girl rocked on her heels and looked around. Are you sure anyone could come....Ani what it I'm not wan... IDUNCAREIJUS'WANNAROLLIEPOLLIEPILLIEWILLIE!!! Laughing Laelia shook her head. Slower. I. Don't. Care. I. Just. Want. A. Rollie. Pollie. Pillie. Willie.....better? Now can I have one, huh, huh?!? An excited trumpet cam from nearby where the dragonet had landed to watch the hatching. If one wants us. Oh and tell T'von and Moruluth.
Tell them wha.....OH! Yeah, yeah, good idea Mine! MORULUTHTHEREAREPILLIEWILLIESHATCHINGCOMECOMENOW!!! Did I do good, or what? Shaking her head, Laelia went back to watching the eggs under the Pillie, and oh the little blue that had just hatched too.
Perfect.....might have alerted half the Weyr, but it's alright.

T'von busied himself with oiling his dragon on the side of the Weyrling's Barracks. "How's that feel, dear?" Moruluth closed his eyes Oh, it feels wonderful. Cloud, can you get just a bit lower, please? Raincloud nodded his head and scooted himself a little bit further down on Moruluth, and continued his rubbing himself.
That was possibly the only advantage of having a flitt that picked up on everything interesting that other flitts did. And while he only remembered most of them when he saw the firelizard he got it from, this was the one that seemed to stick the most. Thank you so much, Cloud. Moruluth sighed.
Suddenly, the purple's head popped up. Confused, T'von looked up at him. "What's wrong, dear? Did some get in your eye?" No, it was Ani. She spoke so fast, though, that I couldn't make out what she had said. He ran what the green had told him through his mind again, pausing for a second to space out the words.
When he realized what she had said, he stood up. "Moruluth, I'm not quite done yet." The purple looked at him with rapidly swirling blue eyes. Mine! It's a pillie hatching! That's what Ani told me! "What?!" Shaking his head, he quickly began putting up his supplies. "Did she say where?" No, but I'm pretty sure it's at the lake.
T'von quickly placed the oiling supplies back to their place, wiping his hands on the back of his pants."Well, let's go!" T'von trotted briskly, with Moruluth and Cloud following behind him. He saw Laelia and slowed down his pace. "Thanks for telling me." He wrapped his arms around her in a hug, and kissed her cheek. He watched the little blue try to organize the eggs and told Moruluth Tell Teri about this. He may want one. Teri, there are pillies near the lake if you wish to have one. he gently told the candidate.

Agnith had been on her ledge when her quick eyes spotted movement by the shore. Delilah! I am going down! There is a pillie and I want to see it.[/i]
Her wings spread, and she flung herself into the air, circling before she dove. She landed neatly not far from Hearty's newfound nest, but before she could investigate, two firelizards found her. The pink perked up immediately. So that was what she was about! Well, Delilah would not be interested in a pillie, but other people would, and oh, it seemed to be happening so quickly! This would not do. It would not do at all.
Enthusiastically, and helpfully, Agnith bugled to the entire Weyr, Pillies are hatching! Pillies! Uh, they're out here, and they're babies, and they're really cute![/i] Ooh, hopefully people wouldn't be so busy that they could not arrive in time. Or so far away. Maybe she should have offered to give somebody a ride...but then she couldn't watch. She craned her neck to peer at the nest. What a cute little blue one. Oh, hello, Anibrith! Are you going to get a pillie? I am not.[/i]
Delilah, for her part, was sitting with Sebol in the dining room. "You need to eat more," she said, which was what she said every day. "I think you're getting really thin, and - Agnith says there are pillies." This was immediately before the pink confirmed that they were hatching, and announced it to everyone, including Sebol himself. The girl winced, and nearly dismissed it, but then cocked her head, thinking. She jumped to her feet and grabbed his hand. "Come on. You saw what good Starfall and Why did for Day'ar; you're going to get one too. We have to hurry."
---
For Day'ar, it was a good day. At least, it was up until right then. He sat outside the weyrling barracks with his created family, leaning on Ambrith, occasionally nudging Why with his foot when the brown wandered close, talking with L'xon and Rennin. He was alert for signs of Reylia or Sebol or G'dan as well, although since Rennin didn't really know them, he fancied she might flee at the sight of them.
"And that's when the archivist punched him in the face," he said. "I'm sure he had the Hold's best interests in mind, because, you know, it is terrible and insulting to bring a candle into a room full of records. But it went flying, and you can imagine - "
The tale died on his lips, because Starfall had perked up, and sent him an unusually strong wave of determination. "Do not kill anyone," he said, moments before Agnith squealed her information into their minds.
Day'ar had not thought of getting a third pillie. He was quite content with the two he had, and Starfall was hard enough to manage. Though he dove for her, she was off at once, skittering down to the lake to swim along to Hearty's nest, and he scrambled to his feet. "Oh, quick, I think she's going to eat the babies," he cried, and took off running. This could not be allowed to happen. It was bad enough she terrorised people and their firelizards at times, but if she turned a happy occasion into a massacre they would be utterly reviled, and also, it was an abominable thing to do.
He arrived at a dead run and arranged himself along the shoreline, watching closely for Starfall. He had a feeling there would be blood. Hopefully the pillie babies would ignore him. He gave Yalenia a nervous smile, not exactly wanting to admit that he was not here for the amber, but for Starfall duty.

The food on his plate was beginning to resemble something other than edible sustenance, but Delilah was in his ear the moment he slowed down urging him on. He couldn’t fault, much like a stubbourn runner he was still lost somewhere in the grey of disbelief that his dragon was gone. There had been dark nights during the past three months that he had often wondered if he had been meant to follow the Black between, and then there were some days where he was grateful for the peace; that thinking tended to bring out the worst in him where guilt and denial were concerned. It was an uphill battle, but his friends had not abandoned him, as much as they should have.
Again he tried to stomach the idea of eating, the few mouthfuls a day he managed were far beyond what he wanted, but they always insisted he eat more. This was far worse than the fire had been, then it had been a disgusting memory which had kept him from eating, now it was simply pain, and confusion. The Black certainly had left many questions in his passing, and there had been very little closure. These days, Sebolaren mostly kept to himself, or to the stables, whichever could give him the most comfort—Requias’ growing foals were always a small spot of light in the grim darkness.
For one moment he had nearly lulled himself into a quiet respite, and then Agnith’s voice blossomed in his head like an unwelcome glow within the night; her words were almost painful, tracing along pathways that were rarely touched these days even in a Weyr full of dragons, not many had reason to speak to him—very few tried when they encountered the bitterness. Agnith could always be trusted to try, and he couldn’t fault her for that either. Delilah’s hand on his, sudden and warm, startled him into flinching, he accepted it though, and her summons.
How could he refuse her when he owed her so very much? That tiny hand and the woman attached to it could never have pulled him to his feet by force, but in some ways he didn’t mind another person taking charge these days, so he followed silently. Surely no pillie would be daft enough to bond to him, Avsiran tended to stay with his brother and Xiro’el, and Baro kept a quiet vigil from a distance—any creature could see he wasn’t anything worth knowing at this point, couldn’t they?
They weren’t the last to arrive at the clutch location, but there wasn’t anyone he knew who wasn’t bonded, so he did as was typical and shied away from those he was acquainted with to find his own quiet spot hoping to get lost in the general bustle. Pillie hatchings had always been sort of an event at Dalibor, and he wasn’t entirely certain he should even be here.

L'xon's frown trembled, thinking itself better suited as a smile. Had this story of Day'ar's happened in his hold, under his watch, both parties would have earned their reprimands and no one would be laughing. But somehow this past event did not bother him as much. Besides, if the event really had a dire ending, Day'ar probably would have induced his own nervous breakdown already. The Blueweyrling pressed his lips together when they refused to obey, then started tucking them back into his mouth when Day suddenly lapsed out of speech. L'xon constructed a hasty but appropriate "o" of surprise when Day'ar changed topics. Always wary of the man's pillie, he caught Starfall's quick turn for the lake.
What surprised him, really, was Day's willingness to follow her. He knew the babies he was talking about of course, what with Halventh having received Agnith's announcement same as Ambrith. Unconcerned, the young Blue was tucked around behind L'xon and Rennin. His head was angled especially toward the girl and the sunlight: the first so that she could scratch his immature eyeridges and blunt knobs whenever she felt it like it, the second so that what angles and delineations had developed on his face were put to their utmost dramatic glimmer.
"Ah, he means the pillie-bugs," L'xon informed the Candidate. "I guess Starfall wants them...to eat..."
He shrugged. Day'ar had already charged off like the hero he was. Halventh gave him a look for interfering with his potential pettings, but L'xon beckoned Rennin anyway. "Let's go!" Their destination, and their goal, should not have been a mystery. It was only the mechanics of stopping a bloodthirsty pillie that would have to be worked out en route. L'xon checked his feet. Yes. He was wearing his boots today.

Ondine was, fortuitously enough, done with chores for the day and was...well, running. For fun. Around the lake. She was racing/being chased by a certain blue Flitter at the moment, when the commotion started on the opposite side of the lake from where she was. She wasn't quite sure what was going on, other than that there some some sort of activity and that it involved a very strange sounding noise that she might have attributed to...well, some sort of creature. She was made curious enough by that alone, and started to jog over in that direction just in case she could have some fun in that direction.
Ruem, of course, was just as enthusiastic, but decided to fly directly over the lake towards where other flitters were right at about the same time that Agnith gave her call to the entire Weyr. Hearing that, Ondine sped up, feet pounding against the ground in an attempt to get there quickly. Pillie hatching! So that was what was happening. Okay, so it wasn't the same as a dragon hatching, but the pillies were even more rare! She had to see this, and maybe get her own!
Of course, given that a straight line was swifter, Ruem got there first, chittering at people starting to gather and sending an image of the brass pillie fighting with its blue offspring over to Ondine. She laughed at the sight, slowing down somewhat because she was too busy laughing to breathe, but soon enough she circled the lake and found herself staring at the pillie eggs and the mother, needing a few directions from Ruem in order to find the hiding spot. There were a few people showing up that she recognized, and a lot more that she didn't, but maybe this would be fun! Besides the enjoyment of seeing new pillies, of course! Unconcerned with finding a spot on the outer edges, the healer came as close as she could to the hatching pillies without disturbing anyone, but she did still want a good view. Well...why not next to Agnith! Hey Agnith, the pillies are hatching! Nothing the dragon didn't already know, but she was excitable...

{Ooc: Credit to Ruin for Art}
Hearty scuttled around and around her pile of loot, watching as eggs moved and some even cracked. All the while, she was aware of the thieves watching on and kept up a continuous hiss of disapproval each time a new one appeared. She didn’t like them being here and she didn’t like those silly dragon things especially. They were in her space and she knew exactly what they wanted. They were not here to be a part of her crew! They were here to take it! ARR! AR! ARRRRR! ARRRRR! Hearty had begun circling her nest as the blue took more eggs from it. Each time she walked past him she pushed him away from the eggs and tried to steal some back but he was adamant that they be organised into rows. She paused in her obsessive circling as one of the larger eggs started wobbling back and forth.
Yalenia watched as people arrived and mostly ignored her except one person she knew as a Weyrling. Nodding back at the Viridian Weyrling she turned her gaze on two other Weyrlings, eyes narrowing as they displayed a little too much affection. For the moment, the thought was pushed from her mind but the worry and concern for their dragons remained. As a candidate, she’d been informed of what they would need to expect with regards to Impression. This did concern her some but she couldn’t necessarily do much about it.
For the moment, Hearty forgot about the blue as another blue tumbled forth from his shell, rolling out onto the ground and glancing about in a confused manner. It was almost as though if he had a lower lip it would have been trembling as he took in the sights of the people surrounding him. He walked over to his mother and brushed against her leg. Wa? Hearty turned a bit to look at the new blue and ran her feelers over the creature but her attention was drawn by the cracking of another egg, a much larger egg and this excited her for it meant even more treasure. WAAAAAAA!!! WAAAAAAAAA!
The blue was suddenly distressed that he had been left behind and stood there crying out for his mother, sobbing softly. The other blue, his brother, wandered forward and ran his feelers over the other pillie. Don’t cry, he seemed to be saying. The newly hatched blue stopped crying and watched the RowPillie momentarily until he moved off again taking advantage of his mother’s distraction to keep organising the eggs prompting renewed sobbing.
The larger egg broke and a black crawled out. The amber was pleased with this. He would follow her for all blacks followed their Queens! Except the black was not following her. He was still. He almost looked frightened of all the people and then he suddenly turned around to watch the blue pillie at work. Baaaaaaaa! BAAAAAAA! Baabaabaa! Scuttling forth, he watched his brother a moment before he too started pushing the eggs into rows. He seemed quite adamant about this as he worked hard with his blue brother to try to copy the things the blue was doing. After a moment, the blue seemed to get annoyed and tried to shoo the black away, which prompted a swift turn as he went to join his crying brother. WAAA WAAAA!!! WAAAAAAAAA! BAAAA BAAAAA! BAAAAAAA!! WAAA WAAAA!!! WAAAAAAAAA! BAAAA BAAAAA! BAAAAAAA!! WAAA WAAAA!!! WAAAAAAAAA! BAAAA BAAAAA! BAAAAAAA!!
Whilst this din was occurring, another pillie rolled from her shell and took one look at her strange siblings, the two blues and the black before she walked forward to the RowBlue. Mrhrgrgleurgle? Merag Frgle mrhgrg lurgle merag mulgr frg? She watched him curiously for signs he understood but the blue took one confused look at her and then pushed past to continue his work. Confused, the green turned to search for someone else she could tell all the things to.
Back to the blue and black whom were continuing their chorus, the blue seemed upset that no one was with him, not really and started crawling over to the people. They would not abandon him, surely? They would care for him and in turn he could show his loyalty and devotion! He was the most devoted pillie there was but how could people ever leave him alone? How could his mother had left him. It was in that moment that the blue decided he needed a human, not a pillie. He needed someone who would care for him and only him. Pillies were fickle things and they never even liked loyalty. A human, one of these things, would. Waa? Waaaa!? With that, the blue approached T’von’s foot and looked imploringly up at the Weyrling before scuttling over his shoe and creeping up towards his arm. When there, he secreted a sticky substance onto the skin of the boy and sent through emotions of loyalty, and devotion. He would love this humanpet forever but hoped to goodness he would never be left alone ever again.
It was then the green’s turn to be confused. She walked over to the black and watched him intently for a moment before she started speaking again. Mrfrug argle mrgle urgle? Mrgle argle murgle frgl. Rgl argl mrgle mhfgle. Baa ba baa baa baaa? Baaaa ba baaaa baaaa… It became apparent to the green that this black had no news to tell her but seemed instead to be copying what she was saying! How rude! Or at least he seemed to be trying to copy her anyway. He was very unsuccessful. Well she would just have to find new company! Better company! The best there was for this would not do at all. Therefore, the green started walking away but the black followed. When she stopped, he stopped. The green jumped, the black jumped. Frustrated now, she turned on the black and reprimanded him. Mrfrug argle mrgle urgle? Mrgle argle murgle frgl. Rgl argl mrgle mhfgle. Baaaaa? Ugh, men was she right? The green spotted someone who would surely have more intelligent conversation and charged off in that direction, the black following her. She jumped at one point and he jumped at the same point. Now the green hissed a little as she flung herself at Day’ar in an effort to do the same, the black managed to fling himself past Day’ar and run into Yal’s legs, bouncing off and wandering about in a confused, dazed circle.
The green, however, had climbed up Day’ar and sat on his neck, secreting the sticky substance to form the bond. He would listen to her talk and talk and talk and talk. He would love her always wouldn’t he and they would have marvellous conversations for he understood everything. Mrfrug argle mrgle urgle? Mrgle argle murgle frgl. Rgl argl mrgle mhfgle. Mrfrug argle mrgle urgle? Mrgle argle murgle frgl. Rgl argl mrgle mhfgle. Mrhrgrgleurgle? Merag Frgle mrhgrg lurgle merag mulgr frg? Rgle mrgle frgl mrhgrgle merag frgle. FRGLE! Mrgle!!
Yalenia did not want another pillie and so she deftly, with the skill of having handled Hearty for a turn, turned the reluctant pillie towards some of the other people there. The black was confused and alone. He liked being with others, he liked following them around and moving as one with others. These people, they did not have enough creatures for him. Thus the black sat there confused for a moment, not daring to move without the safety of the pack. He didn’t know what to do! It was all so scary and confusing. He spotted a lizard and he liked that a lot. Perhaps if he went to where the lizard was, he would find a new herd. A new flock to move with. They would help him… Tentatively, he moved all the way around the people, giving them all a wide berth as he walked slowly towards the one he wished to bond to. It was scary moving by himself but he had the knowledge that he would be with a new flock soon. Baaaaa? Baaaa! Baa baa baaaaa!! At the last moment, he jumped and flung himself into Laelia’s legs, headbutting them and bouncing back. It took him a moment to collect his bearings before he meekly launched himself at her leg again. It was as though he hadn’t learned. This continued for a while before he finally managed to latch onto skin and form a bond. BAAAAAA!

As an archivist herself, Day'ar's story was a tale of terror – imagine! A lit candle! A lit candle in the archives. Needless to say, her hands were gripping each other so tightly they where white from lack of blood, and her face was a mask of utter horror and fear. Every few moments, a tiny, “He didn't!” would escape her mouth, but for the most part she was silent from horror.
She flinched when the unexpected voice touched her mind, making Bel, sleeping alongside her legs, stir and look up in curiosity – which turned to excitement when Starfall took off. A quick hand was required to keep the pup from tearing off in pursuit of the object of her bizarre adoration - and that was something Rennin would probably never understand, why that canine loved Starfall so much. But Day'ar's quick response, and more importantly, the reasons for it, had her on her own feet in a heartbeat.
She had a lot of experience with stopping your pets from eating other people's pets, after all.
Still, she gratefully followed L'xon, using him as a human shield she could hide behind as the joined the group of humans and hatching pillies, and taking up a stance facing the lake, Bel a bouncing, excited bundle of fur racing along the water's edge, waiting for Starfall to emerge.
It took her a long moment to realize that the reason the pillie sounds were getting louder was...was because one was on Day'ar and was it supposed to be doing that?
“Day'ar, what is it doing?” She couldn't keep the budding panic out of her voice, but Day'ar was the pillie expert, right? He had two, after all! He'd know if it was trying to eat him, right?

Kateros was worried. Someone had said something something about birthing and everyone was excited. Who had said it, she couldn't find out amidst the crowd. She wanted to know in case they needed help! Aha! She caught a glimpse and a bit of commentary of what she thought was the person who said it. Following them at a good clip, she still couldn't reach them before they made it near the lake. Why wasn't anyone doing anything?! The poor woman was outside and all they could do was stand here and stare? She couldn't see anything past the group surrounding them, so Kat started pushing her way through the crowd. What did it matter that she was stepping on toes, someone needed help!
Weyr people were weird just... Kat stopped up short as she stumbled into the clear area around the birthing...No not birthing, a hatching! Of Pillies! She took it all in with a few quick glances. The mother looking grumpy, some of them were rolling eggs and there was a bunch of hatching little bugs. They were so cute... She stood there entranced by them, her hands clasped together. What was it about them that they drew her so? Maybe it was the chance at love, the kind that never left you? That was too deep a thought process for now though.
Once she realized she wasn't standing with the crowd properly though, she turned and tried to squeeze back in. "Excuse...pardon me...Please...let me in..." It wouldn't be right to stand out here, she didn't deserve one of those precious darlings. Giving it up as hopeless, she moved quickly towards Day'ar, happy to see someone she knew and at least could stand being in the presence for a while. He didn't seem happy though, more like worried and kept looking at the lake. Now she was paranoid, and kept eying the lake too. What would come out of it? Shaking a bit at being so close to the water, she tried to pay attention to the hatching.
"Um...problem...Day'ar?" She spoke quietly after a bit, her attention kept getting caught by the... bonding? Would you call it that? She wasn't sure at all, but her attention on the lake kept slipping. She wasn't a very good watch person. Day'ar probably would rather have someone else by his side helping with...whatever it was.
Still she was quite surprised when a green Pillie came over and latched itself onto the young man. Probably not as surprised as he was, but she let out a little laugh, quite hidden by her hood and stepped back. Lucky Day'ar! Now he had three! Or was it four or two...

Although it was kind of Day'ar's friends to surge after him in the spirit of baby rescue, it happened that Starfall had no intention of eating the infants. She lurked in the lake just offshore of the hatching, hissing angrily to herself. This was the amber who had not chosen Why in her silly little run, who had hidden herself away these past sevendays; Starfall intended to give her what-for on the subject of brothers and why they were better choices than stupid mermen. She impatiently waited. Once the little ones were bonded and out of the way, she would attack, and her mind ran through plans of how to do it.
Day'ar only felt the rage, and naturally assumed it was directed at the babies themselves, not knowing that Starfall had held the grudge all this time; in fact he had no idea Why had even decided to chase Hearty in the first place. He wrung his hands anxiously. Usually he could stop her with a word, but in this case...there was just so much going on right now, so many people and firelizards and dragons...
He thought he was safe. That he was far enough away. Suddenly, something struck his leg while he was gazing across the water, and he glanced down with a sharp gasp. "No. Oh, no. No no. Shoo. Not me. Not me, Starfall will eat you, you're so tiny..." He'd nearly forgotten how little the pillies were when they were new-hatched.
She was energetic, though, and industrious. He could hear the vague sound of her chatter as she scrambled up his body, not allowing him to brush her off, and suctioned onto his neck. Suddenly her voice was loud in his mind, and he flailed a bit. This was nothing like what he got from Starfall or Why. She had a lot to say, and with all of it came the undercurrent of vague emotion. There was love and affection, irritation with the copycat black...he tried so hard to understand, tipping his head away from her.
"You tickle," he said, with a sigh. "Seriously?"
Merag mrgle mrf! Drgl argl rag.[/i]
That was quite emphatic, and he said, "I wasn't actually trying to name you, but okay. It's not Seriously, it's...Serah. Hello, Kateros, there might be a problem, we're on the lookout for my grey. Don't worry about it, Rennin, she's just bonding to - "
In the lake, Starfall had watched the green pillie's climb with building fury. Her duel with Hearty was entirely forgotten. This chattering little pipsqueak thought she could come in and take what belonged to Starfall? Take her very person and occupy his time with her silly little words? This would not do at all. With a shriek, Starfall flung herself from the lake, grabbed Day'ar's pant leg, and yanked.
Day'ar was already unbalanced by his attempts to get Serah to at least leave his neck alone, and he had not expected this; with a scream, he fell right off of his rock and splashed into the lake.

E'kiel was actually already in the bowl, so it was a wonder he had not yet found out. But some how, he had missed the message. Laughing, he rolled around in the grass a bit, Rose bouncing around him eagerly barking and darting in to lick his cheek. E'kiel just laughed and qucikly stood. “Come on Rosie! Come on!” He slapped hois hands against his thighs. She puppy slipped into a crouch and waggled her behind. Aldebarath watched with a smile, Rhapsody draped between his wings as usual. She is happy to play. She is good. C'ian is good. Rose turned quickly and bound to Aldebarath, not scared of the many times larger dragon at all. She sniffed around him before licking one claw, waggling as she did. Aldebarath sat up suddenly and gazed at the lake. Oh, E'kiel, there seems to be um... Uh... Pillies. I think that is what they are. The bugs. They hatch. He stumbled over the name, but finally got it out. That did not stop the puppy. Rose eagerly barreled into Aldebarath and playfully gnawed on one foreleg.
E'kiel dusted himself off, through grass stained his knees and elbows and his hair was in true disarray, strands of it pulled from his ponytail to fall in his face. “Oh... OH!” It suddenly dawned on him. He had never ever seen a pillie hatching. “Let's go!” Eagerly he ran over and scooped up Rose, the small puppy struggling in his arms a bit. Carefully, he held her as he fixed his own straps. Once they were set, Aldebarath set off at a quick pace to cover the distance to the lake. It was close enough to where flying would be silly, but far enough away where E'kiel would tire himself out.
As they neared, E'kiel waved his hands. “Waiiit! Wait for me I wanna seee!” In his arms, rose barked uproariously. Only Aldebarath was silent. Apologies Lady and um, Pillie lady. Mine would like to watch... If that is ok with you! I mean, if it's not we can go somewhere else. I am sure he would not be too sad. He has his puppy you see and she could probably use a walk... But if we can, um we would like to watch. E'kiel just laughed a bit and fumbled with the riding straps be had bothered with, hugging Rose close as he slipped onto the ground. “Calm down Aldebarath! We won't bother!” Setting Rose down, she bound off to sniff the others gathered there, poking people with her cold, wet nose and bouncing around their feet.

More and more people started to filter in after that and Laelia barely noticed them. Anibrith? She was a different story. A cheery chirp and warble greeted each and every person, flit or dragon that came within her sights. It was fine, let Hers deal with getting one of those bug-things. Anibrith could certainly handle the crowds.....right. Laelia forced herself to stop checking on her dragonet, not a difficult thing to do once T'von showed up and have her a hug. When he kissed her cheek she blushed and bit back a childish giggle. T'von and Laelia sitting on a cloud....uh, something, something, something.....OHLOOKBUGBABIES!!
Decidedly ignoring the insane green, Laelia watched as more and more pillies began to hatch. She tried to tell herself that it she had gotten through dragon hatchlings this would t be an issue. She was still nervous though. Smiling as another blue followed by a black and green hatched though, the Weyrling reached up to scratch Belle's eye-ridges.
Everything was quite amusing, but from what she had heard of the last hatching it had been much the same. The girl jumped back slightly though when a blue ran toward T'von and latched onto his arm. At first she was about to shout out, worried it was trying to hurt him in some way. Instead, she realized he had attached one. "Congrats!"
OOOOOOH YOURS IS SOOOO LUCKY! Anibrith whined at Moruluth while eyeing the blue with envy. Fluttering her wings she watched as the green found Hers as well. She's sorta like me......oh noes, di..... Ani don't you dare think about making Pillies a part of your flitts-taking-over-the-world-theory! Fine.....INCOMING!!!!!
The green's warning made Laelia turn around in time to see the black pounce toward her legs where it bounced back off before trying again, this time successfully. It just wanted a home! It just didn't want to be alone! -Baaaa? Ba ba ba baaaaa! The Pillie gurgled and whirred as it clambered up her legs, reaching up with its feelers to tickle Laelia's arm. "Easy boy.....Mime calm down." The black made a happy string of noises and gurgled some more, making the girl laugh. It tried to imitate the sound as well. "Yeah, Mime's a good name for you." -Ba!
Oh I wanna talk to it too! Baaaa! Ba ba ba baba! -Ba?

T'von kept his arm draped over Laelia's shoulders as he watched Hearty and the little blue fight over the eggs. The level of organization the little blue had was quite comedic, and everytime the Amber tried to take a few from him, he would go over and steal a few more. The routine kept on like this until another egg hatched.
"Well, look at that. The first two are both blues. I wonder if that's good luck like a bronze first in a dragon hatching." He said it more to himself than anyone else. As the newer of the two blues sidled up to his mother, she went to investigate another egg hatching, leaving the young pillie by himself and crying.
T'von couldn't help but feel a little sad, but he instantly perked up as his borther came to comfort him. The affection didn't last all that long, though. A black then popped out of its shell and began copying the blue who was organizing the eggs.
Moruluth found the entire display quite entertaining. Pillie hatchings are very interesting to watch. speaking to T'von and Laelia. "They are. It's a shame we don't have them too often. Ooh, a green just hatched!"
He kept getting excited over the hatching eggs, that he didn't really notice the blue approach him until it was on his foot. Looking down, he smiled at it. The blue began climbing up him, and he couldn't help but laugh at the way his little feet touched him. "Hey! That tickles!" The pillie got closer to his arm pit, and the only thing keeping him from falling over was his arm across Laelia.
Finally, he came to a stop on T'von's forearm, and stuck himself there. Instantly, T'von felt loyalty, and devotion. He lifted his arm, since it was not the one he had across Laelia, and began feeling slight doubt. "I will never leave you..." he paused a minute to think of a name . "...Loess."
Waaa? Loess looked at his humanpet. Brrraa! He was happy! His humanpet wasn't going to leave him. T'von pried the bugg off of his arm to put him in a more comfortable place. Loess breifly panicked and began to cry, thinking that his humanpet had lied and would leave him now.
He calmed though, when he was placed onto the boy's chest instead. Immediately sticking there, he looked around at Moruluth and Cloud. Waa? he asked them. Would they leave him, too? He would be the best pillie he could be if it meant they wouldn't leave. Moruluth chuckled. No. We will be here with you forever.
As the newfound pillie made himself at home, T'von looked up just in time to see Day'ar Impress the green. "Good on you, Day'ar! That makes another for Starfall to attack people over!" he joked. The black had also made his way to the people, particularly to Laelia.
T'von patted her when Impression was made. "Congratulations to you both. Mime and Serah are wonderful names." He rubbed his blue, happy that he and his friends had new pillies to look after." Waaaaaa! Loess said and snuggled even closer, if that was possible, to his humanpet.

FREEEEEEEEDOM!
There was nothing quite so exciting as being done with chores for the day. And what better to celebrate such a momentous occasion than racing at top speed barefoot along the weyr lake’s shoreline? Nothing, that’s what! And people thought Kaliko wasn’t smart.
She was quite happy with her plan for how to spend the rest of her day. She had also come to the recent conclusion that watching where you were going was for losers. If you couldn’t handle a collision with whatever might be in your way, you just weren’t tough enough. Kaliko would know, too—she’d had to detach her face from more trees than some northerners saw in a lifetime.
But it wasn’t a tree she was on a collision course with this time. She stopped admiring the lake just long enough to glance back in front of her and notice no small assembly of people just ahead, right on the shoreline. And they were wearing shoes! What was the point of going to the lake if you were going to keep your shoes on? Her opinion of them all sank just a little, until she got too distracted to continue judging them when she noticed what they were all gathered around. What…what was that, anyway?
She forgot her plan to keep running around the lake forever, slowing down and pushing her way into the group of people so that she could see what they were all staring at.
“Are those…eggs?” she asked, talking to no one in particular, though another glance around at the people there (who were they, anyway?) changed that, as she soon spotted a familiar face. “T’von!”
She happily shoved her way over to him, not really caring who she might be jostling out of her way, though at least she was giving the eggs a wide enough berth. “These must be those pillie things, right? Oh! Is that one yours?” Her eyes widened as she looked down at the blue he had, grinning. “Lucky! I’ve always wanted a pet bug! I had one once, but I ate it.”

I think... Pillie's are hatching? Poseith called to his rider, his head tilting as he tried to parse out the message it seemed a wher named Kisk had sent. F'ton had just finished toweling off from his bath and was rubbing his still-wet hair with a towel. He frowned, the wheels of his head turning as his dragon relayed the full message. It really... was not very clear. But Poseith got the jist of it: pillies, the bugs that patrolled the lake, were hatching. F'ton had heard quite a bit about them, but had yet to see them up close despite the time he spent in the lake. He rather wanted to go watch this pillie hatching, even if the message probably was not meant for Poseith to here.
He jammed his feet into boots and threw a coat on, then ran out to the ledge where Poseith was watching. The iron knelt down to let his rider climb up into position and then he cautiously launched himself from the ledge. Agnith sends us the location, Poseith added as the pink's call reached him. He stretched his wings out wide to glide across the Bowl and to the place where Agnith relayed the pillies were coming from. He bugled their approach as they reached the halway mark.
By the lake Ablath and A'bar, too, heard Agnith's call. Well, mostly Ablath, but A'bar heard nothing but it shortly after. A'BARMINE. OOOOOOH, A'BARMINE! The green trumpeted and stood, shaking herself out of sheer excitement. A'bar backed away quickly, shocked by Ablath's sudden change from calm state she had been in before.
What is it?
IT WAS AGNITH... you know, the one that's not too bright but really happy! Pink! She's pretty! BUT ANYWAY. There are PILLIES! They're HATCHING! HERE. Ablath then relayed the location to her rider, showing him the fuzzy location from the view of the pillies that first brought it to the firelizard that first brought it to the wher that brought it to Agnith. A'bar shook his head. Bugs were neat and all, but... did they really have to go?
WE MUST GO, A'BARMINE. It is a must! Indeed! Ablath hopped over to her rider and licked his face. A'bar groaned at first, but then laughed and gave a shrug.
"Ah, fine! Away with you!" He climbed up into the space between her shoulders and gave her an affectionate slap on her neck. Ablath trilled happily and took off for the location that had been fed to her in the relatively round-about way.
F'ton and Poseith arrived about when A'bar and Ablath did. A few of the pillies had already hatched and it was a remarkable sight! The greenpair stayed off to the side as the hatching went on, but F'ton approached to where the other spectators were to get a better look.

Teriss was doing chores when the call from Moruluth came. He was actually on his hands and knees scrubbing the floor of one of the many hallways, it was hard work, but satisfying when it was all clean. Inching along the hall, all the way up to his hips was soaking wet with soapy water, and it would have been the same with his sleeves, but he had them rolled and pushed up to his elbows. Wiping his hair away with an elbow, it didn't quite work, and used his hand instead, getting his hair wet, but slicking it back all the same. Using all the muscles in his arm to scrub at the floor, if made from different material, he knew he would have seen his face reflecting in it. The funniest part of all this? This was extra chores he asked to do.
Doing them kept him mind off of everything else. Off of lessons, off of possible new candidates he might have to share his room with. He didn't have to think when he was cleaning, it just was done, and that was it. And when it was done... you moved onto the next project. Teri could loose himself in chores and cleaning, and most people found it difficult to actually complain, especially the people who didn't have to do the chores because he already had them done. He also figured that if he did all the menial chores he could, he'd be allowed back into the kitchen sooner. And the sooner the better... even if he did seem unhealthily addicted to it.
When Moruluth called into his head, tell him that pillie eggs were hatching, he almost spilt the entire bucket everywhere. Instead he tried to think back a thanks to the brilliant purple, and was excited about seeing a pillie hatching. They were cute little bugs! Glancing up at Jelly who had her own little perch in a spot that should have held a sconce, he sent the mental images of pillies. She chirped happily, and got to her feet, already she had a little bit of a belly forming, but that came because Teriss gave her whatever she wanted to eat, and then carried her. She was his little princess, and she knew it. Standing up, he dropped the brush into the bucket, and gathered Jelly onto his shoulder. Pressing a kiss to the side of her head, she nipped at his ear out of love. Returning the bucket and cleaning equipment back tot he correct locations, he stopped by his room first, and changed into some dry pants and a thicker shirt, not bothering with a jacket.
Looking at Jelly, having put her down as he changed, he went to pick her up again, but she had already taken her place upon a pillow, and when she gave a squeak of protest, he knew she didn't want to be moved. Nodding, he smiled and tucked a blanket up around her. Then he was running out of his room and down to the lakeside. He was excited about seeing pillies hatch, and if he was able to have one choose him, even better. Hopefully a dragon wouldn't be upset with the idea of him having bonded to a firelizard and a pillie.
There was already a crowd of people around what he could only assume as the pillie hatching. Getting closer, he looked around for T'von, and saw him, running up, he was about to throw his arms around his friend, when he saw the cutest little blue pillie had attached itself. Grinning, he instead just patted T'von on the shoulder, happy for him.

Hearty watched in disapproval as three of her crew mutinied and moved off. She came to grudgingly accept that there was very little she could do here but as soon as she saw that gray fly out of the water at her child, motherly instincts kicked in and replaced those of a grumpy, pirate captain. Perhaps it was more that she figured if anyone was to keelhaul her crew it damn better well be her. With a hiss, Hearty barrelled past a number of people, shoving everyone aside hissing at Guybrush and Threepwood as she went past, whom had since returned from their task, ordering them to protect the eggs. Then, the mother of the pillies launched herself into the water after Starfall and Day’ar scrabbling to push the Gray away from her first daughter. The creature may have been her sister but by Jove she had no right to attack her children and crewmembers. Damn cowardly mutineer! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
With the abandoning of the nest, the two firelizards took up a vigil with Yalenia stepping a little closer so as to maintain some semblance of order over the pillies. The blue, now left to his devices, had happily organised the eggs into their rows with all of them from smallest to largest. The shards of other eggs were pushed to the side and the blue stepped back to admire his handiwork. The largest egg rolled about a little now before cracking straight down the middle. A brown emerged from the egg, confusing Yalenia let alone some other people she was sure. It remained in a tight ball as it rolled forward, eyes poked out over his back end as he observed the people around him. It one looked particularly closely, they might notice that there had been another brown within the egg but he was remaining hidden from view, hiding under the shells, waiting for the right moment. His brother, the twin brown rolled his way over to the blue who, mistaking him for an egg, tried to push the brown back into place.
This upset the brown who popped out of his ball and looked at him in shock. Ack!Ack!Ack!!! Ack! The brown looked about in a surprised way at all the people and then promptly rolled into a ball again. It was not that he was frightened, no, he was worried about people seeing him and most importantly, he was worried that he might be trodden on! With his hard shell keeping him safe, it was best to just remain in a tight little ball. Then no one would annoy him, right?
Meanwhile, another of the larger eggs rocked about and then stopped. It was still for so long that Threepwood got worried and flew over to inspect it. Poking his nose to the egg, he was not prepared for the egg to suddenly split down the middle in an almost perfect line. It was straight as anything, neat as anything and, even more shockingly, the halves were almost entirely even. It was a brass, the first of the hatching and he looked out at the people watching him with curious eyes. He stayed in his egg for a moment before deciding something. He was not clean! Not clean at all! Truly he needed to wash himself if people were to admire him properly. The brass seemed to shake his head as front legs went to his moth and she started preening himself obsessively. KlkKlkKlkKlk
Guybrush stood vigil over another egg and as he watched obsessively, it hatched into several pieces, a pink stepping out of the shell. If there was to be one thing said about this pillie it was that she was no nonsense. Taking one look at her silly brothers, she seemed to roll her eyes and walk forward purposefully. She pushed past the brown in its rolled up shell almost shaking her head section. Some of these pillies were certainly very silly. She didn’t know what to- oh! Something had caught her eye, it was the brown still in its shell. She could tell it was waiting for something. As she neared it, she suddenly found herself being tumbled over as the brown sprang from his hiding place. The Pink tried to find the brown again but he was gone, hidden from view entirely. It was a scary thought but the pink was clever. She knew the pillie would probably try to attack one of them again. Most likely, he would go for one of the smaller ones, like his twin brother. SeeSeeSeeSeeeee
The pink was correct in her summations and as the dark brown rolled forth again, she jumped forward into his path. He was a fool and not worth her time really but she wanted to help the other brown. She didn’t know what this pillie’s problem was but he would have to deal with the fact that she was here to help people no matter what. The pink was smart enough to help them and intelligent enough to know when people were being incredibly foolish. SeeSeeSeeSeeeee!!! A hiss escaped the pink as the dark brown bade a swift retreat into hiding and again disappeared from view. The pink approached the light brown and helped him to his feet. Come on brother, I think I know just the person for you, was what she seemed to be saying as she directed him towards the people, egging him on softly and helpfully waiting for him each time he rolled into a ball.
The brown was scared of all these big things around him. What if they trod on him! He needed someone to look after him, to watch over him and ensure that nothing happen to him. Someone tall but not too tall because if they were too tall and he fell then what would happen!? His sister was helping him now, directing him towards a person. Someone he rather thought looked nice. Yes, she seemed acceptable. She seemed nice, kind and good. He liked her. She wouldn’t tread on him, would she? Glancing at his sister as though for reassurance, he then turned to Ondine and gulped as he rolled the rest of the way to her and slowly started crawling on her boot, climbing up her leg. The emotions certainly indicated fear but also hope that she would look after him and love him. Ack!Ack!Ack!!! Ack!
The brass had watched this with interest as he obsessively cleaned himself but then he looked at the ground. It was dirty there too! What he really wanted was a swim but he wanted someone to watch over him while he did that because, really? Who wanted to swim alone. He’d seen his mother go into the lake and knew that it would be a very bad idea to swim there at this moment. Therefore, the pillie walked slowly forwards, raised slightly on his back legs and wandered over to the crowd. Every step of the way he was preening himself and looking at people. The pink approached him and greeted him softly. She also knew the perfect person for him as she had seen something on the man’s back as she had walked forwards. Perhaps he needed to be clean too? The brass thought this was an acceptable suggestion and followed the helpful Pink to a man. Unlike the other pillies, he climbed up the back of this man and settled under his shirt. My goodness! His sister had been right! This man was a mess! How could anyone live like this! As much as he enjoyed cleaning himself he needed others to be clean too.
KlkKlkKlkKlk Therefore, the brass settled on Sebolaran’s back and started to work, moving his feelers as he crawled all around the man, shoulders, back, stomach before popping out the neck of the male’s shirt, staring into his eyes, you are not a clean man, he seemed to say.
That just left the pink now. She didn’t want to go back to her brother who was organising things and she still saw the dark brown pillie wandering about so she rather thought she would find something else. She wanted to be with someone here… The pink was smarter than her brothers and although she wanted to be helpful she didn’t want this to rule her life. She wanted something else. Not only did she want to help people, she desperately wanted someone who was smart. The pink wandered around each person until she found someone she thought looked reasonably intelligent. Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… Mmhmm, this person would do. Softly and slowly, the pillie climbed up Rennin’s leg, trying not to frighten her. Yes, this one seemed smart but also looked as though she could use a little help. This one would do wonderfully. The pink was not as abrupt in her impression as some of the other pillies had been and seemed to ask Rennin first whether she would be permitted to sit on the girl’s arm.

At first, E'kiel was quite pleased! How awesome! Baby pillies. Really, you could not get better than that. Except for baby dragons. He loved going to hatchings! They were so small plus he liked to see the candidates. They were fun to watch!
Not all was good in pillie-town it seemed though! He winced Day'ar fell into the lake, attacked by a vile grey pillie! Rhapsody twittered and chattered, from her spot, watching with interest. E'kiel though, was not going to stand about. “Hey hey! Whoa!” He was quick to scramble towards after Day'ar, but stopped to thin for a moment. He had to help! The other weyrling was gonna get killed by pillies! Well, maybe not but dang it E'kiel had to help.
He was a bit wary to try and stop Starfall though. The grey pillie looked awful upset. So he settled for trying to help Day'ar up. So he scrambled to the edge of the rocks and held out a hand. “Take my hand if you want to live!” Ok, that might be a bit much but shells, he was serious!
If dragons could blush, Aldebarath would be a red currently. But no. His eyes just seemed to whirl conflicting colored. Mine I... He started to speak but E'kiel ran off. Uh, E'kiel!...[/i] Again he started, and again his rider ran off. Oh goodness. Aldebarath knew he was going to do something foolish. Something that would end badly. Very badly. Stretching out a wing, Aldebarath just hid.
Rose on the other hand was excited. She wanted to help too! Yes! She would help! The puppy scrambled after E'kiel, intent on protecting him from the awful water and those weird, weird bugs! Claws scratched and scrabbled against the stone. She would protect her feedman! Feedman was friend! In her excitement, she bumped into him, sending E'kiel and herself into the lake with Day'ar and the strange, strange little bugs.
Aldebarath was right to hide, because it just got worse.

(OOC: writing this on a phone and it's a bit tricky. Apologies!)
Agnith's broadcast caught Analucia by surprise. Pillies? She wanted to see it! Quickly putting on an apron and checking her hair, Analucia hurried out of her room. Not quite running, Analucia scuttered onwards as fast as she could while still maintaining proper poise. Pillies! How exciting!
The hatching was not hard to find, especially since people had gathered there already. Analucia tried to see ifs there were people she was already acquainted with. As she came closer, she saw Moruluth. T'von was probably somewhere in the crowd. As she tried to look for him, Day'ar splashed into the lake, earning a look of sympathy from Analucia. If it was that dangerous on the rocks, she would find T'von later.
There, that rock seemed stable enough. Analucia stepped daintily on the rock and then turned her attention to the eggs. Oh, they were just darlings! Hearty was surely proud of them. The neat rows of eggs were certainly eye-pleasing.
And the pillies! Analucia smiled. The blue one that tried to push his brother into the egg row was so far her favourite. The brass and the pink ones latched to people Analucia did not yet know, but she smiled a little congratulational smile at both anyway. Apparently pillies latched onto bare skin? How lucky that she'd put on the dress with the 3/4th sleeves...

Agnith was loud, Reylia remembered all over again when the rambunctious pink broadcasted news of the pillies about the Weyr. She finished braiding her hair - still damp from post-chores bathing - before running outside and heading for the lake. Recath scrambled after her, his oversized wings half-spread for balance. First felines and now pillies, he grumbled softly. Why did his bonded like little creatures so much?
Because I -like- caring for things, Recath. Please don't be so down about them - please? she coaxed silently as she hustled towards the lakeside. It looked like quite a few people had beat her there. And -
Oh shards, Day's in the water!
I suppose you want to help, the black sounded so long-suffering that she had to giggle. Really, he just wanted to keep her safe, and she wanted to go out and do things. But it made her happy; it made her feel validated, after her stupid sire made a mess of things. Recath grumbled a little more at the thought of the man that upset his Reylia. He wasn't important, though. She was the important thing. The spark of a simple idea struck Recath: if he wanted her safe and happy, he needed her brother to be as well. Trundling into the water, he carefully took a sodden fold of Day'ar's too-many-clothes in his teeth and set to work on towing the viridianweyrling out of the water and back to dry ground, in spite of any interference Starfall might offer or potential panicked-Day'ar screams.

The blond started after Day'ar, but a charging adult pillie-bug ran right into the path of his foot, and he had to dance aside to keep from slipping his boot-sole off her back. His shoulders sagged as other people crowded the fallen warrior instead; even a dragon joined in. After squinting at its gargantuan wings for a moment, Lex decided it was Recath, who had Impressed Day'ar's sister. He had heard about her, but never met. And as a coincidental phantom, Sebolaren could be seen beyond the arch of the Black's neck as it hauled in its flailing catch. L'xon had barely seen him after he'd Impressed, the same clutch as Ambrith, and he only now realized how strange that was.
But everyone knew Sebolaren was not a Weyrling anymore. He seemed to have garnered himself a pet today; it was easy to see the baby Brass fumbling up the giant's thinning frame. L'xon could not imagine how a pet would help, nor could he conceive of the dragonless trudging out here for one on his own initiative. It was probably the scheme of the girl beside him. Her, and her loud Pink...
There was pink beside his foot too, for a moment. L'xon took a broad step to the side, but the bug had already moved on. It was something Saia would have liked, but she wasn't here. Without a dragon, she probably hadn't heard Agnith's call. He exhaled, looking over to his shoulder to check the pink's path. Rennin.
"Oh--" he murmured in faint discontent on the painter's behalf. His little noise was drowned out by a cheerful call from T'von, who was congratulating poor Day'ar for some reason. T'von also had something loud and blue on his arm. Lex's thoughts paused there. Day, Rennin, Sebolaren, T'von, Laelia-- his brown eyes flicked back over the last two, following the cant of T'von's arm over the Greenweyrling's shoulders --and more he did not know had taken on the insects, which seemed to be emerging from the lake in droves. Even now a big brassy pillie with a trident stamp on its forehead had clambered into the shallows. It looked like he was trying to assist Hearty, and his many legs reached out to the infant Green, incidentally about to clamp around the Viridianweyrling's face.
That was an adult, but these little pillies were much harder to see. And they seemed to be sticking onto everything in the vicinity. L'xon would not be immune. He started backing away from the water's edge. Maybe there was time to go get Saia, which would at least put him out of baby pillie walking distances for a bit.

In all honesty, as soon as that green pillie crawled up Day’ar, Rennin had been sort of expecting something like this – it was something that Oracle would do, and she and Starfall had a lot in common. But Starfall, at least, was not so randomly murderous, at least. She planned, which made all the difference in the world.
Honestly, if the gray had belonged to anyone else, Rennin would have been a lot more frightened of her than she was.
As it was, she barely made it two steps into the water, vague plans of fishing Day’ar out before the worst of the oh-Faranath-I’m-in-the-lake could hit him, but was cut off by faster individuals – and a dragon. By sight, she knew it was Recath – and he was Impressed to Day’ar’s sister. That was a reasonable solution.
She had just noticed the tickling sensation of pillie legs on her, at that point. The tiny pink bug wriggled her feelers at Rennin, touching her hand lightly – the girl recoiled instinctively, but really, how far could you recoil from something clinging to your leg?
Seeeee? Slowly, carefully, the pink climbed up her waist, stretching out to climb her elbow to her arm. The pink secreted herself down firmly on Rennin’s upper arm while the somewhat horrified painter looked on.
“What? Oh, oh no, what are you…why are you…?”
See! Seeee, seeeeeeeeeeeee… The pink wiggled her feelers, patting Rennin’s arm comfortingly. She was going to have to help with this, first. Her silly human was not being as intelligent at the moment as she knew her new person could be.
“As…as long as you aren’t trying to eat me, I suppose…you can stay there for a bit?” Rennin glanced around for help – Day’ar was quite preoccupied, so she tried her other friend instead, “L’xon. Please tell me you know what is going on?”

More eggs meant more babies, and just like that there were three more impressions. Laelia smiled as she watched them all, wondering faintly if she needed to feed the black that was currently rolling around at her feet. A loud splash made her look up in time to see someone get pulled into the water though. "Oh no, is he going to be okay?" She bit her lip, genuine worry showing in her eyes. Anibrith tilted her head as she crept closer, a funny picture of one would take notice. The green had lowered onto her haunches, squirming across the ground toward Hers and Moruluth's Own. She just wanted a closer look at their newest family member!
Ba. Baaaaaaa? Ba babababa baba. Ba? Mime watched as another BigThing pushed through the crowd to get to His and the other BigThing that was attached to his brother. Pointing his feelers at the girl, he gurgled and rolled around, jumping off the ground in an imitation of her happiness. "Uhm, hello there?" Laelia smiled at the girl, wondering how it was that she knew T'von. Then again when you were friendly and played music, people tend to flock to you, or so it seemed. T'von was definitely someone who people flocked to.
OHHIHIHI! I'm Anibrith, who are yoooouuuuu?!? Do you like Mine's Pillie Willie? I like him veeeery much. Oh he's so cute and adorable and did I say cute? He is my squishy, and I love him because he is my squishy. Isnt that right Baaa? Ba bababa! His names Mime, he likes copying things. I think he's copying you. Oh, oh, oh! I'm Anibrith, did I already tell you that? I don't think I have, hi! "Ani, breath. Sorry she likes to talk....a lot." Laelia gave the girl an apologetic look as Anibrith arched her neck to try and get a closer look at the hatching. Swatting the green hide, Laelia clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth and put her stern face on. "Leave her alone Ani.....talk to your new friends instead."
Baaababa ba Ba!

More weyrfolk had flooded in at the prospect of bonding to one of the sentient insectoids, and Sebolaren was slowly feeling more discomfort at the general rabble. The tiny creatures were quick to be done with their shells and even quicker to wander out into the midst of the growing crowd, and he couldn’t help but be reminded of a dragon hatching. In the very least he was grateful that no one was paying him much attention, something which he intended to promote with his continued sulking near the shadowy Weyr wall. Of course, as was the norm, a chaos-free environment was asking far too much.
Day’ar’s scream was unmistakable and it made Sebolaren flinch, but this was a happy place, and he was surrounded by friends; even as he watched there was at least one dragon going to his rescue. A midnight black soon splashed to glistening with lake water—the broken man looked away, focusing on some seemingly important crack in the solid wall. He didn’t have to distract himself for long. The prickling of tiny legs on his body, beneath the protective layer of his shirt, drew his attention down to his neckline as a shiny little bug skittered its way out onto his flesh. Klkklkklkklk
A moment of quiet contemplation passed between the two, man and pillie, and they could feel each other—even if they could not understand. The idea that he was unclean amused him, because it was true, wasn’t it? He was tainted; not in any way that the bug would know—or care about—but deep inside there was a darkness that had never found peace and seemed to find only more pain. Klkklkklkkk came that soft insistent noise again, like metal spoons in the kitchens tapping together, or talons on stone, it almost pulled a smile onto the corners of his mouth—almost.
The gathering was indeed becoming far more hectic than anticipated, and his firelizards weren’t ones to be left out, especially when they could sense there was another presence with their human. Sigard, always more curious and brash than his larger, younger, fair-mate was the first to approach the Brass, alighting on Sebol’s shoulder and extending his neck up to tap his muzzle on the still-soft carapace. The pillie’s antenna swept forward to caress that blue snout and then the noise came again, warmer within the man’s mind. KlkklkklkklkKLKKLKKLKKLKKKKKK
Sebolaren had the distinct impression that the Brass wasn’t too keen on being touched by something he perceived as dirty, and Sigard probably appeared to fit the mark with his black-striped hide. The chattering came again as the pillie slapped at the Blue with his antenna and scrabbled to the other side of the man’s shirt only to come face to claw with Baro, whose dark blotchy hide gave off the impression that he’d been rolling in lake mud before winging his way over here. KLKKLKKLKK admonished the pillie, his exuberant clanging taking on a hint of frustrated grinding as he held out the final sharp note.
He was certainly not going to find any clean creatures out here! How this man could associate with such riff-raff was beyond him, but he had simply had enough. With one final dismissive glance the pillie rolled himself back under the safety of Sebolaren’s shirt leaving only his antenna trailing out down the center of the fabric. The firelizards gave each other a look of their own, as if determining that this new creature was entirely sun-touched—but obviously full of potential—and decided to go bother some of the other lakeside occupants; Sigard left to find his brother, and Baro, with one last affectionate nuzzle for Sebol, winged away to leave the man in peace. Relative peace, anyway, Sebolaren eyed the debacle at the water’s edge with trepidation and moved further away.
