Corian attempted to stifle his laughter as he heard Ezekiel calling out to him in a somewhat tentative manner. He wasn't sure whether this was the best of ideas... He didn't want to stress Ezekiel out too much. Then again, he was just having far too much fun right now. He took a deep breath trying to calm his laughter shaking a little from the effort of it. He held a hand to his mouth and the other held his stomach keeping the laughter as contained as possible. He heard Ezekiel call once more and footsteps as Ezekiel moved towards the doorway, at that moment Corian jumped around the corner and into the doorway.
"RAAAAARRRR!!" He shouted and then fell about in fits of laughter.
He gripped his stomach a little thankful that Ez had actually thought to wait for him but also touched for the concern his new friend seemed to hold. Of course, if the situation had been reversed Corian was pretty sure that he would have run right past Ezekiel searching for him. He was a little thick like that sometimes.
"Haha, I definitely got you that time!" Corian half yelled in elation.

Oh no. He must have been hurt. Furrowing his brown, Ezekiel bit his bottom lip. Oh great. How was he going to explain this? Maybe he could lie! No... Ez was a terrible liar. He could never keep his story straight. Letting go of the doorway, he went to take a step out when Corian jumped out at him, roaring. Ezekiel's eye's widened and his jaw dropped in a look of pure territory. He scrambled backwards, trying to get away, but only managed to fall on his butt.
He sat there for a few moments, tears forming at the edges of his eyes. Ezekiel was silent, too shocked to actually speak. Slowly, he blinked up to Corian and his expression changed. Lips twisting into a smile, she picked himself off the dusty floor. “Wow... That was pretty good.” He chuckled a bit nervously, running one hand through his hair., loosening a few chunks of mud that fall to the floor shattering. He wasn't quite sure what to say. His chest still hurt a bit, his heart still beating rather frantically, like a flitter in his chest, trying to run away.
Ezekiel wasn't used to being scared. He wasn't used to fear. It was kind of alien to him, and he didn't like it. But he couldn't fault Corian. It did look like fun, scaring others. Looking back to his friend, he grinned, canting his head to the side. “So, what's it like, being a candidate and all? Have you seen anything cool?” He wanted to change the subject. Shift it away from his fear. Silently, he brooded a teensy bit. He's have to get back at Corian. In a friendly way of course. Yes. A bit of friendly revenge.

Corian laughed and clapped Ezekiel on the back kindheartedly. "You should of seen your face! So great!" He grinned happily. He thought perhaps Ezekiel had been a little more worried than he had thought but they always had to be doing these kinds of things to stay on their feet. Well, that was Corian's warped logic anyway. As it happened, he generally thought that anything he did that was even remotely childish was benefiting his reflexes in some way for combatting the Threadfalls later on when he had impressed a dragon.
"Oh being a candidate is great fun! I mean apart from the really early morning chores... You just have to search for the fun in everything. It may take a while. It took me a year to make raking leaves fun without jumping in them..." Corian trailed off then shrugged a little.
He walked lightly with a slight bounce to his step almost trying to act a lot younger than he actually was. It was as though he wanted to go back to the times when he was so much more carefree, not worrying about the fact that he had already been left on the sands twice now.

Ezekiel laughed a bit uneasy, he still couldn't believe he had been so concerned over someone he didn't know well. He was quick to cover that up though a wry grin taking it's place. “I bet it was priceless!” He wasn't taking it so well internally though. He was young, and his emotions bothered him. He was male. He was supposed to be steely and indifferent, charming to the dames, but a rock they could cling to when things got touch! Not some emotional, worrying pansy! He wasn't some girl!! He patted Corian on the back though. “Master prankster right here. Better watch out for this guy!”
He had to distract himself from his internal thoughts though, and did so by listening to Corian. He nodded a bit, answering with soft 'Hmms' and 'Yeas'. As he listened, he snooped around for his bag. He had dropped it in his worry. Finding it, he scooped it up. “Really? I bet that can be a bit of a challenge. But It will be so much better when we are working together.” He wiggled his eyebrows comically. “We'll get it done lickity-split, in the blink of an eye, in two shakes of a lamb's tail!” Ezekiel's capricious nature was shown, bouncing ahead a bit, he turned. “So, do ya got a roommate yet?”
Ezekiel didn't worry too much about being on the sands. He was Ezekiel? What dragon wouldn't want him? He bet they would be fighting over him! He'd have to beat them off with a stick!

Corian had started almost skipping through the corridors in his excitement by now. His bounce had become far more pronounced. He didn't currently have a roommate and he was wondering when he would get one. He thought someone had mentioned the fact that they would need to assign someone else to his room but he'd just assumed that it would have been another candidate who was already at the Weyr. He laughed at the thought that Ezekiel and he could team up. It would be even more amazing if they impressed dragons that were like them.
At the thought of dragons Corian remembered that he had to ensure he was more confident when he was on the sands. Last impression he had not accomplished that at all far too distressed by all the death of the hatchlings. Next time he would be sure to impress.
"I don't have a roommate, maybe if you ask the candidatemaster about it he'll let you be my roommate." He replied happily, "And then when there is a hatching we will be able to go together."
He thought they might need to get to see someone soon so that Ezekiel could properly begin his time at the Weyr. The two of them being crafters meant that Corian could help Ezekiel become a little more accustomed to the fact that he would become a Dragonman. When he had arrived, he'd been under the impression that being a Rider would be relaxing. Even though he still thought that there would be glory he realised that there was more to being a Rider than betweening all throughout Pern in the blink of an eye.

He liked the idea of having a roommate. It sounded like fun, even more so if he knew the person before hand. It was rare for Ezekiel to not like someone, be he didn't want a roommate who hated him. The idea even made the boy deflate a bit, his shoulders drooping.
“I'll have to ask! I hope we can room together. Then you can help me learn about the chores around here. It's probably more than cleaning up, and feeding runners.” He grinned a bit, remembering his small duties. “I hope I fit in... I don't want to end up messing things up.” The boy gave a small smile, putting his hand on Corian's shoulder. “I'm glad I met you Cor. You are really cool, and a good friend.” He looked to the Barracks, at all the bunks and chests. So other candidates lived here. He wondered if any had any stories to tell. He still had a love of stories. “So where would I find the candidate master?” He should check in. Find out if he could get Corian as his roommate. He didn't want to get into trouble.

Corian smiled happily when Ezekiel said he would have been happy with becoming his roommate. It seemed as though he would have far better ways to pass his time now that he had a roommate. They'd hopefully be assigned to the same chores so they could wake each other up. He certainly hoped that was the case as he quite generally failed to wake up on time for some of his earlier chores. Generally speaking, however, he got up in time to get a whack over the head with various instruments as he ran through the kitchens getting food before he had to clean something.
"I'm really glad that I chose to come out here today." He replied quietly, "If I'd chosen to stay inside today then I wouldn't have met you." He smiled immediately, now that the serious part of the day was done. All five seconds of it. Corian paused for a moment and frowned trying to think of where the candidate master would be. Generally speaking, the rider would probably be in his weyr but somehow Corian figured it wasn't going to be appreciated if Ezekiel wandered into a personal weyr.
"He could be in the Weyr bowl..." He replied thoughtfully, "Or perhaps in his personal Weyr but I don't think it would be a good idea to go there... He's probably in the Weyr bowl though because he would have known that you were arriving."
ooc: should we start winding it up...?

Today was just amazing. Not in a million years would Ez have thought that he could be a dragon candidate. He was so giddy, he almost missed what Corian said. “I'm just glad we became friends. I bet we'll do all sorts of awesome things later too. We'll be the talk of the Weyr!” Of course, the silence that followed gave Ezekiel time to think, and that was never good.
Fiddling with his bag strap, he started to wonder. What would his like be like now? New friends. New adventures. And hopefully soon, a dragon. Closing his eyes, he imagined what it would be like to fly. In his head, he was astride a young blue, and thread was falling. He could almost feel the weight of a thick jacket on his shoulders, and the cold wind whipping his hair. But it wasn't cool for long. As a clump of silvery thread neared, the blue belched a cloud of flame, searing the thread and sending a backlash of hear in Ez's face. It was wonderful.
Corian's words burst through his daydream suddenly, leaving Ezekiel looking wide eyed and a bit confused. “The Weyr Bowl? Oh yea! I'll have to look there.” He grinned a gap-toothed smile, readjusting his bag on his shoulder. “Thanks for all your help Cor. I don't know what I would'a done with out you.” Wiping his muddy hand on his pants, he held it out, his delicate fingers still speckled with dried mud, the nails all chipped and obviously chewed on.
{Yea, sorry about taking so long :C Ezekiel is the hardest character for me to write X.X So sometimes it takes me a bit to formulate a decent post for him that I don't hate.}

{haha, it's cool. I get like that with all my characters don't worry (: }
Corian grinned his special, lopsided grin and thought of them being the talk of the Weyr. It would be so much fun if they both turned out as wingriders in the same wing and fought thread together. For Corian he wasn't certain what he would want. A blue, yellow, purple, green or white any colour would have been amazing. He felt so much more confident about the next hatching now that he had someone to stand with on the sands. When they both impressed together they would be like some sort of mischievous gang. Not being bad per say but rather enjoying what time they had before they have the weight of the whole of Pern thrown on their shoulders. Thread. It would certainly be a wonder to be all that stood between Pern and its ancient foe...
As Ez held out his hand to shake it Corian took it cheerfully, his hands a little rougher than Ezekiel's... Probablt from all the times he had spent climbing things and scraping his hands. Their muddy hands matched one another and Corian laughed a little at the sight... He hoped Ezekiel had some sort of plan in mind for what he would say to the Candidatemaster when they met. He thought about suggesting that he had slipped when he'd arrived but he wasn't entirely certain. Certainly, he didn't think it would matter too much just so long as they didn't drag mud all throughout the Weyr. "No problem! If you need anything else I'm always around..." He paused for a moment, "You may want to change your clothes before going to the Weyrbowl..." He laughed jovially and withdrew his hand. There were places around to wash if Ezekiel needed them but Corian was probably already late for his next chores. It didn't matter though because he was living the good life, enjoying every moment of it.

“Oh of course. I'm certainly going to hunt you down. Can't let you get into trouble with out me.” He was so excited, he hadn't even thought of what he would say. In fact, he had somewhat forgotten that his clothes were dirty. When Corian mentioned it, he looked down in surprise. He was right! He needed to change! “Oh yea. Maybe I’ll wipe myself down to. Minimize the dirt to skin ration.” He laughed a bit, the movement causing a bit of dirt to flake off. Picking off some of the more caked on mud, he motioned to the halls.
“Uh, where can I go to change and maybe rinse off some?” He cocked his head some, even more mud falling from his hair. Ezekiel hadn't really noticed how muddy he was until now. No wonder his movements were a bit stiff, and his skin was kind of tight. Corian was just as bad as he was, if not worse. The two would certainly be a handful.
Opening his back, he riffled through it. What outfit would he wear? Something nice for sure. Perhaps one of his older gather shirts and clean pants. That sounded like it would be best. Of course, something in blue. Most of his wardrobe was some shade of blue.

Corian laughed and clapped Ezekiel on the shoulder with good humour. It was great to have a partner in crime for his future antics. Certainly, he didn't intend to always get into trouble, just when there was something amusing around he couldn't resist just messing around with everything in sight. To have someone else to do the same thing... Well it would be just great. Of course, he didn't want Ez to get into trouble for anything but... He was sure that there wouldn't be too many problems. He hadn't been in too much trouble throughout his last couple of years at the Weyr.
He thought for a moment about where Ez would be best to go to change. He wasn't sure but he figured his own room would be the best option. Even if Ezekiel wasn't assigned to be his roommate he could leave his things there so he didn't have to carry them around the Weyr. That was, if he was happy to do that. "Sure, you can use my, or our, room to change if you like. You could leave your things there too." He replied smiling. He didn't want Ezekiel to give a bad impression to the Candidatemaster before he even had the chance to go crazy with Corian. He began leading the way to his room, it wasn't too far away and there were places to wash up down the hallway. "Follow me!"

He was jostled a bit as the older boy clasped his shoulder. He looked to the other and chortled some, happy to enjoy the good times. Who knew what the future hold. Ezekiel liked to live in the moment. Not in the past. Not in the future. But in the now. When Corian offered his room, Ez bowed gracefully. “Why that sounds just perfect. Thank you Cor.” Cheerful smile was flashed, with a knowing wink. “Guess I should get used to the place. I can't see how my request would be denied.”
Hands were slipped into his pocket, and he looked over his shoulder, awaiting Corian. They set off fairly quickly though. S they walked, Ezekiel let his eyes wander over the area, making little landmarks in his mind so he could quickly map out the place. It wouldn't be good if he ever got lost. “Hey Cor. What kind of chores do we do here? I mean, I unmucked wheels, cleaned horse hooves, and helped forage. But I don't really know what you do in a weyr.” He was a bit perplexed. Did they help clean dragons? Did they help in the infirmary? He couldn't figure out exactly what a candidate would do.

Corian nodded in response to the statement about the request not being denied. It was true that there was a certain benefit to knowing ones roommate and he highly doubted that there would be any good reason to deny the two a friend around the Weyr. It would hopefully be the case that the two of them would wind up with the same chores and be able to wake one another when there was a hatching. He wasn't late to the last one but he lived in fear of missing one no doubt. He couldn't bear the thought of sleeping through the impression of His.
He thought for a moment about the question. The chores he'd had to to were rather varied and he tried not to think about them too much, just doing whatever he could. Of course, that made him rather vague at best whilst performing his duties. It was, perhaps, one of the reasons he hadn't really been assigned to one specific duty. Then again, he listened to whatever people had to say and obeyed them, just in his own little way. Once he was answering to a King or a Queen he knew he would do nothing else. He knew that he would listen to their every order and carry them out no matter what. So, he might as well have as much fun as he could right now.
"I've been on kitchen duty, laundry duty, stable duty, firestone duty and just about any other duty you can think of." He laughed a little, "I guess one could say I was a duty aficionado!" He smiled happily pleased that there was something he was good at... Even it he wasn't all that good at the intricacies of each specific chore. "If you're with other people chores are a lot of fun. It's just tough to find fun in every chore though..."

Canting his head to one side, he listened to the list of the chores Corian had done. He nodded a couple of times. Well, they didn't sound too bad. Stable duty would probably be the worst, but they boy had to help with the runners for the traders. So even that wouldn't be terrible. He couldn't wait to start. He couldn't wait to meet every one and make lots of friends.
When they reached the rooms, he peeked in, all kinds of curious. Well, it was sparse. But it was nice. It would be weird, sleeping in something other than his little cot in the wagons. Part of him missed the colors, and the little lanterns that hung, always alight, low and flickering. It didn't smell the same, either. The wagon always smelled like that night's dinner. Usually rich meat, spiced with pretty much what ever his foster-mum could put in it. He could almost taste it. The thought made him feel a pang of homesickness.
He stood in the doorway, a bit dazed from thinking, but he managed to look to Corian, blinking a bit of water from his eyes. “Uh... Which one is yours?” He asked, motioned to the two beds in the room. Ezekiel didn't want to put his stuff on the wrong one. That would look weird. Especially if someone decided to peek in.

They reached the room and Corian poked his head around the door as Ez asked him which bed was his. He grinned and darted into the room gesturing to his side of the room, the left. There was a little bit of clutter around his side but mostly his mess was hidden under the bed. A cursory glance from someone walking past the room would make it seem tidy. A closer examination of the room would soon tell the tale of woe that was Corian's room. Clothes hidden under the sheets of his bed or on the floor but this was mostly it. He didn't see the point keeping them all that packed away if he was just going to get them dirty again. Still, if Ezekiel wanted him to keep his side of the room neat then he would, of course, endeavour to do so. At the moment it wasn't too bad.
He looked back towards Ezekiel and noticed something. He seemed upset. Corian wasn't exactly accustomed to reacting well to another's emotions. As it happened he stood there awkwardly for a moment and then grinned a little. He'd just have to distract Ez from whatever happened to be upsetting him. He gestured to the other bed. "So I guess that one's yours. I've kept that side of the room pretty tidy actually..." He ran a hand through his head in some confusion. It was odd that he had managed to keep one side of the room in near pristine condition but had some clothes littering his side. He made to pick a few up and throw them into a box-type-trunk at the end of his bed.
"But there's a washroom around the corner there so you can go and change your clothes no problem." He smiled encouragingly at the younger boy hoping that if there was something wrong he would be alright. He also hoped that it had nothing to do with the fact that his own side of the room was a little messy. Something told him this was not the case but Corian was never all that tactful when it came to helping people who were feeling a little down.

Ezekiel looked to Corian's skde and chuckled a bit. “That's genius. That way, no one can get on you about cleaning!” It even took him a few moments to notice the mess. Ezekiel was sure his side wouldn't be too bad. He had learned to be tidy. He fiddled with his back for a moment, before setting it on the bed to the right. The quarters were huge compared to what he was used to.
Taking a seat on the bed, he set down his back and dug through it. Clothes were pulled out, all folded rather neatly, and set in small groups. Shirts there. Pants there. He looked at the few outfits he had, judging them, before pulling one from each stack and tucking them under one arm.
“I've heard the washrooms at Weyrs are pretty nice. Much better then splashing around in a lake for a while between holds.” He laughed some. He could tell that his emotions were bothering Corian a bit. He hadn't meant to make the other boy uncomfortable with his slight melancholy. So Ezekiel gave Corian a reassuring grin. “I think I'll go wash up and get changed. First impressions are always important.” With that, he stood up and wandered to the washroom, intent to look his best.

Corian smiled happily when the mess wasn't vindicated by Ezekiel at all. It made him feel better about himself. At least Ezekiel seemed happier now. He was smiling back at him so Corian figured he had little to worry about. It was probably just him reading too much into things. If something was really wrong he was certain he would know what to say to his friend. He stayed standing for a moment as Ezekiel walked over to the bed and began pulling things out of his bag. Corian decided against changing his own clothes. All the mud was just about dry now and would flake off. Besides, it wasn't like he was on kitchen duty or anything so he doubted there would be a problem if he was a little bit dirty. He also didn't want to dirty another set of his clothes.
He nodded a little but not entirely able to understand. Corian had always been in a Weyr with his parents as Harpers in Benden. He had never really had the chance to see how other people around Pern lived and was always really interested in how they lived their lives. Not to mention that he found just about anyone absolutely fascinating. Corian took a seat on his own bed. He would leave with Ezekiel for his next set of chores and hope that nothing happened to Ezekiel. He was almost certain that he was actually a little late for his next set of duties. "Yes, and I think you'll make an excellent first impression!" He replied happily.
Ezekiel wandered off to the washroom and Corian waited for a moment stretching. He then jumped to his feet and headed for the door. "I'm going to have to go to my next set of chores now. I'll see you later!"
