Yalenia laughed and smiled. "Oh, well I'm also a Wher candidate." Yalenia replied, bringing a gloved hand to her forehead in near surprise. She was more shocked that she had not mentioned something about it. Usually it was the first thing she mentioned to someone. Well... She wouldn't let that happen again. She smiled though at Atenna's slight confusion at being asked whether she had a name for the pup.
With a creature as gorgeous as the one sitting in Atenna's lap who could not keep it? Yalenia almost wanted to keep her! The pup had lasted this long without letting go or giving up so she clearly had a fighting spirit. Even how she sat there with Atenna, trusting her... It was probably a sign of the loyalty the canine would develop as she aged.
"I don't even know what I'd call most things. I'm pleased that the Whers come up with the names themselves." Yalenia replied happily, "I could probably think of one it would just take sometime." She would have loved a Flitt of her own but had never had the opportunity. Not to mention she would have had no clue what to call one. She liked the thought of Moss for a Green or Coral for a Pink...

"Oh!" Atenna said with some surprise. "Are you here for the gold egg, then?" She'd begun to hear rumors about that, to say the least. "Well, I wish you luck whenever you Stand."
The pup needed attention and affection; Atenna could provide the latter easily enough, but with how busy she was...well, that was why she'd never had a pet before. Yet she didn't know if she could trust anyone else with the pup's psychological recovery, either. Stroking the canine's back, she looked down at her, expression soft. Maybe this would work out.
"Usually I deal with animals that either don't need names, or belong to other people," she said softly. "I'll have to think about it. It has to be perfect. I wonder if she had a name before..." It hardly mattered. They'd thrown her away; no piece of her belonged to them anymore.

Yalenia smiled at the comment from the Herder. It felt reassuring to hear comments from well-wishers. "Well, I'd be here regardless but I am standing. And, thank you, sincerely." She replied happily.
She wouldn't deny that she was excited for the Hatching but that seemed to happen every hatching. Still, there were other emotions she felt for the upcoming hatching and most of them were relatively restricted to simply wondering what might happen. She didn't feel nervous. It was really almost awe... Yet she would not allow that to overcome her. She knew the importance of the event. If the Wher chose her she would remain firm and not allow the Gold to control her.
"If she did have a name before... I don't think she'd want to remember it..." Yalenia replied softly, "Better for her to start again. New name, new life and new person who will love her." Her smile broadened if possible. She was sure that Atenna would make a good owner of the canine and even if she didn't have time for the pup, being in the Weyr amongst so many people who did love animals would be good for her. Not to mention that if she spent time amongst the herders she would have no shortage of people to care for her...

Not a mere queenseeker, then. Atenna didn't have the vitriol for those sorts that some did, but it was still good to know. She beamed at Yalenia at that. "Dalibor is a good place to be," she said. "You'll like it here. As a Smith and as a Candidate."
Whoever the wher chose would have their hands full; golds weren't a walk in the park, Atenna did know that much. She never could've stood herself for multiple reasons, chief among them her devotion to her Craft, but she certainly respected those who would, especially for this hatching.
Atenna nodded, managing a smaller, sappier smile as she looked down at the pup, slowly calming from her ordeal. There would be no shortage, once she recovered enough to trust, but she was a strong little canine; she would get there, in time, though it might take turns. Her personality and trauma would make it awfully hard for her to be a working dog, but Atenna was no longer even trying to justify it. The pup needed her, and here she was. "She'll be happy here," she predicted.

Yalenia nodded in agreement. She already liked it here. The ocean surrounding the island and the lake. Telgar had not been all that close to the ocean. She hoped to one day travel down to the beach to take a look but with all her duties and chores that was not about to happen anytime soon. She suspected that if she did not impress the Queen her chance to impress again would be a long time coming as she'd heard that the former Alpha Gold had recently clutched. However, she had time a-plenty. She could get to know the Weyr a little more and perhaps even work the Forges without fear of being told she couldn't stand.
"There will be no small amount of people to make her feel welcome." Yalenia agreed. She removed the gloves from her hands and held them lightly. She would replace them to their place when she left. She didn't want to impose herself upon Atenna too much longer. She didn't want to become a pest to anyone. She doubted many people could annoy or anger someone like Atenna... Except those who didn't care about animals, as Yalenia had just witnessed...
She got to her feet and replaced the gloves then turned back to Atenna. "I shall make an effort to be assigned to Herder chores." Yalenia suggested with a smile, "They do seem to be some of the more interesting ones." The Smith chores she had to do could be interesting at times but, then again, a lot of it was rather basic... At least in the other crafts the basic stuff to be learned would also be new to her.

The red and the gold had clutched together, but there was always the chance that a green would run - Atenna was pretty sure they had a handler here out of a green's tiny clutch. There was as good a chance of being among one or two chosen there as there was at the gold hatching, really. But there would still be time, and when she Impressed, however many months down the road it was, Yalenia was certain to be a part of Dalibor already. And if Atenna was awake, she would be there to cheer the woman on.
Atenna wasn't annoyed in the least, but the movement of the gloves caught her eye, and she rose as well, the pup cradled in her arms. "Thank you," she said. "For the well-wishes and the help both. I would be quite glad to see you around the stables and kennels." She chuckled at that, and agreed, "I would rather be brushing runners than washing dishes anyway. At any rate, I ought to be taking this little one to get some numbweed. I'm very glad we met."
