Oh, where was everyone? Deanni fluttered her wings, looking around the abandoned room Reylia and Saia shared. Happysparklepink had been here with Rollypinkbug and then Leaderbrotherblue had come and taken Rollypinkbug away. And Happysparklepink was gone, and she was lonely and cold. She flitted between, seeking her friend. Maybe Leaderbrotherblue could tell her where she was? Oh, there they were! With Ridingclopgrey. That looked fun! Deanni flew down, clinging to Ridingclopgrey's tail. Wriggling and grabbing with her talons, she scrabbled up to peek over the runner's rump.
She offered a soft cheep of greeting to the cluster of fellow flits. Hello! Could she join them? She saw Leaderbrotherblue and Trickybrotherblue and Happysparklepink and sweetly trilled a greeting. Hello Leaderbrotherblue! Could Leaderbrotherblue explain what was happening? She trusted Leaderbrotherblue to know what was going on. And who were the others? They could be friends and cuddle!
Still hanging to Ridingclopgrey's rump - carefully, she didn't want to hurt Ridingclopgrey - Deanni chirped and trilled. They could let Ridingclopgrey out, and ride her. Because she was for riding! Deanni had seen LovewarmHers riding the beast. Wouldn't it be neat to try? Oh! They could go to the water with the bugs! Or to the babybigflit house - didn't Trickybrotherblue live there with His? Maybe the water was better. Yes, to the water, they could ride and swim and play! Would that be okay, Leaderbrotherblue?

Hmm... This tasted rather nice... Perhaps they had changed the grass they used. She munched along happy as could be, a little tired from standing there doing nothing. Well, that was technically a lie for she had been out in the paddocks only before and that had been somewhat tiring. Stamping her hoof and picking up some more feed she chewed it up happily and nickered at her neighbor. Yes, She had noticed that the food tasted better. She was suddenly aware of something on her head.
Perhaps something had fallen on her, tossing her mane she tried to dislodge whatever it was but realised, after another moment, that something had landed on her back too. Her ears moved trying to follow the sounds until she finally turned her head and spotted a bug on her back. Ugh. Ugly little thing really. Edging her nose closer she sniffed the creature and then, disinterested went back to her eating.
Except she couldn't eat for now there was something on her nose. Her eyes went crossed as she tried to look at the creature but decided she couldn't be bothered. Instead she just raised her head a little to turn and look at her back and rump again. Well... Whatever made them happy she supposed... As long as she could eventually eat her hay.
She looked over at the pony in the other stall and whinnied. Do you know where these things have come from? And why are they on me? She was now aware that there were rather a few small creatures on her. Hey now! None of that! Turning her head she huffed softly glaring at the smallest creatures on her. The bugs appeared to be biting her or something. Stupid things. She stamped her hooves a little more in an attempt to get them to stop but it didn't really move them much at all. Mostly, she just wanted to keep eating this nice food.

For once not guarding their BigPet, the tan currently napping and oblivious to their absence, Hati and her fair first noticed the goings on down near the stables while harassing a wild brown firelizard who’d made the ill advised decision to venture too close to Hati’s home.
The green was torn – continue harassing the fleeing brown, or go to see what was happening down by the fourlegged tall things. If she caught the brown, she might get to eat him… But he wasn’t cheese, and therefore couldn’t outweigh her interest in the goings on below. She shrieked tauntingly at the fleeing brown, one last swoop from Skolpet chasing him between and away. Hovering, she chirped demandingly to her fair, Skolpet immediately taking up position off Hatiboss’s left wing, TinySkadi moving to take the right side. LazyBlack reluctantly fell in with them.
She lead them down, down into a long swoop that soon had them zipping along the ground at goodly speed, chasing the sounds of another group of firelizards. And quite an assorted group it was – notfoodbugs and other flits all over one of the fourlegged tall things that the human sometimes rode around on. The leading trio came in for a graceful landing on the runner’s rump, but Fenis just sort of…stopped flying once he was over Requias. He thumped down in front of the rest of his fair, immediately flopping bonelessly and chirping his intention to not move.
Hati just sat up on her haunches, looking about, then up to the pair by the fourlegged thing’s narrow end. She shrilled a little – what were they doing with this thing? Did they even know how to fly it?
Vigilance, still wearing his goggles and with his fur windswept from the patrol he and his master had just come back from, looked up from where he’d been getting a big drink from the runner trough, he being nearly as big as some of them making it a rather easy thing for him. There was a runner covered in flying death.
Now, Vigilance was a good boy, and his master had taught him he needed to protect runners from things. One flying death wasn’t so bad, but…that was an awful lot of them. But were they threatening? Vigilance didn’t know.
He wandered over, sniffing the whole mess from a polite distance, and barked an inquiry as to the intentions of the crowd of flying death.

Ohgoodness! Was the hoofthing moving? Cassia squeaked in surprise and clung even more to the stringy mane as the runnerbeast tossed her head in an attempt to dislodge the big!blue flits. Why are happening?! The green cheeped in fear and clutched with all of her flitty might until the hoofbeastthing stopped bothering everyone and went back to eating. Oh.
Ok then! Cassia was back to her cheerful self in no time, clambering up the mane to perch on the animal’s neck properly. Hey, she could see lots of flits now! “Prrooo?” she tilted her head at the other firelizards, but especially the little green who was clinging to the hoofthingbeast’s tail. Well, that looked like fun! She could just swing from side to side.
But the thingbeasthoof wasn’t doing very much, Cassia noted. That was slightly disappointing. She followed the big!blueflits because they promised fun and fun things! “Skp!” again, she squeaked, but this time it was out of surprise at the bugthings. How did they get here?! When did they get here? Clearly, they were also wizards.
All excitement and stupidity, Cassia approached the tan bugthing to try and ask it how it traveled all this way without wings. In the process, she had to step around another little green flit, but she didn’t mind. She gave the other green a nuzzle as she passed.
And suddenly there were more firelizards again! There were more than Cassia could count! (Admittedly, since she had trouble counting up to one, this didn't take much). "Eee!" she squealed yet again and gamboled over to the newcomers, especially Hati. What was she shrilling for? Would that help? Could Cassia help shrill too? "Eeeeee?"

Avsiran warbled imperiously when Cassia arrived and landed on the bigthing they were all sitting on. He was sitting on the bigthing's head. This was clearly the best place to be, because he could see everything and all the other flitters and why was Sparkle on the bigthing's face? It looked like a fun place to be, though... the blue trilled approvingly to the pink, and then stretched out his nose towards Cassia. There was lots of space here, right here, on the tallcritter's neck, so she could get pretty close. She just couldn't sit on the head like him! There wasn't space!
And then... the grand plan. The blue bugled a challenge to his brother. He could do better than just riding the largecritter. That was positively boring. Deciding that he didn't want to sit here anymore (no matter how amazing Sigard was), Avsiran launched himself off the tallbeast's head and zoomed for the door. He wasn't sharing his suggestion, he was putting it into action. And put it into action he did -- fluttering over the stall door, the tricky blue seized the bolt in his claws (how simple it was!) and yanked it open. There! Trilling to his friends and brother, Avsiran zoomed from stall to stall, opening bolts and chirping to the runners within. Some nudged open their doors immediately and trotted down the aisle, bound for freedom; some didn't immediately understand and some just didn't care. Avsiran didn't care what they made of their newfound freedom, really... or, no, yes he did. As soon as he'd finished pulling all the latches, he flew back to the tallbeasts still in their stalls and nipped them on the haunches, screeching. Go! Go! Be free, tallthings! Run wild like the wind!
Nameleth was still not interested in the other firelizards -- these hardbugs were too interesting! Too difficult to eat! She squealed, and then scuttled forward to pin the brownbug onto the bigbeast's haunches. Deciding that was boring, the green warbled instead and started pushing them again with her muzzle, trying to make them run. Maybe they were better at being inedible prey than actually being edible!
This was odd. Normally there weren't so many odd little wingedcritters in the stables. Miles, stabled next to Requias, snorted lifted his muzzle over the side of the stall and nickered in response to her whinny. She never wore such odd creatures, that he had seen. It was most peculiar. And look! There went one of her miniature riders, zipping to the door... the sound of the latch sliding open was unmistakable. Ears pricked up, and Miles moved to the front of his stall, watching as the wingedcritter opened his door, too. Glorious! Simply glorious! Whinnying ecstatically, the bay nudged the door open with his muzzle, only to retreat back into his stall as the other horses came swarming past. Well, that was fine! His friend was right next to him, after all!
As soon as the others were mostly done stampeding, Miles whinnied and opened the stall door again, trotting out into the aisle and hooking his head over Requias' stall door to pull it open for her. There! Splendid! She was free now, too. He nickered pleasantly, and stepped out of the way, then trotted to the entrance of the stables and looked back. Well, was she coming? She and her littlepet herd?

More flyfriends, more! Of course he knew how to fly this fourleg, he answered the newcomers with a clarion bugle that echoed into the stoneplace, and when his brother abandoned his post Sigard stretched out between the swivlethings gripping one in each forepaw. Yes! He chattered happily to the fourlegger. They were going to go places, all of them were! See look; darkbrother was freeing them, FREE, everyone would be free to have fun, and he would help lead on the fourleg while the others did what they would do—they needed a base, like a room—but a moving room, one that moved so when they became tired they could rest and they could keep kills on her. Like tunnelsnakes. A nice tunnelsnake would be good; yes—it would be so good.
He watched as his brother loosed the latches and began chewing on the lazy beasts to get them to move. WATCH THE BUGTHINGS he trilled to his comrades. MAKE SURE THEY DON’T TOPPLE. The images were a torrent of fast flashes within their minds as he sent them; flutters of little mudthing and pinkthing falling and being squished: NOT GOOD. Bugthings were stupid, obviously, but entertaining, and his Nameleth was amused—mostly. At least they entertained her somewhat. Sigard snorted at the small fourleg that stuck his head over curiously and then flared his wings, pattering them against the large fourleg’s neck upon which he sat between the swivelthings. ONWARD FOURFRIEND, ONWARD. There was freedom and food and freedom! Did fourthing know that.
Sigard became somewhat less pleased when he realized his brother was releasing every fourthing in the stable, their bonded was not going to be pleased, he had only wanted this fourthing out. Chittering quietly to Deanni he cautioned her to hold on tightly, and snorted for the others to be careful. No jostling now, there is plenty of room, and we will be going! Yes going and free. COME FOURTHING, LET US BE FREE. The stampede was impressive—but Sigard was still not impressed. He barked back at the shortfurrything: Guard against the stampede! Danger!

Oh... the others didn't want to talk. Deanni gave a short, soft creel and twined her tail in the heavy, silky tailhair of Ridingclopgrey. Well, maybe she would just stay quiet and ride back here. It was comfortable and Ridingclopgrey was warm. When Leaderbrotherblue wasn't busy maybe he would say hello and explain what was happening. He did! She perked up and trilled. Yes Leaderbrotherblue, she was holding on! This was good!
Kaydi had watched the flits and runners with one half-interested eye. Well, it was certainly different for the Little Flying Things to be in here. And different for them to sit on one of Them - the Greats, what humans called runners. But when one of the Little Flying Things opened up the stall doors, she whinnied. That was more like it. Maybe the Little Flying Things had their uses. Kaydi gave her stall door a brisk nudge to push it open and clopped out of her stall. Freedom was out the stable doors! She was in the stableyard! There were fences all around though. She had been here often enough. Kaydi snorted, stamping a hoof firmly. Little Flying Thing! Open this gate so that all of the Greats could run like they were meant to.
While this beginning stampede gathered momentum, a very small black firelizard popped out of between, landing on the fence outside the stables and staring. He chittered rapidly with dismay. Shellshellshell this wasn't good. His wouldn't like it if He knew! Jet didn't want His to be upset, it spoiled the prettypictures His thought. Sigardblue! What was this? Avisranblue! The runningrunners would get hurt and Theirs would be upset, why would he do that?

The sound of the doors opening was unmistakable. But she wanted to eat! Ugh. Well she supposed she could deal with this she turned her head and trotted her way over to Miles with another cheerful greeting thankful that he had opened the stall for her. What a thoughtful pony! Why, he was one of the most thoughtful runners in the whole place! She brushed her head against the smaller runner and then turned towards the exit of the stables calling for her friend to join her! She had riders but she couldn't care less about them really. Of course, she would not buck them off for that was simply too mean. If they couldn't keep up with her and Miles then whatever.
Rearing up ever so slightly she cantered her way from the stall at a pace she knew Miles would be able to keep up with. She didn't want to leave him behind after all! She trotted out into the light of day and then stopped to look at the ground. Perhaps there was some nice food here. Nickering to the smaller runner she dropped her head, flicking her tail, to sniff the ground. No this would not do at all. Huffing she turned her head and spotted her master standing there with the seat he used to ride her in his hands. His mouth was open and the seat dropped to the ground as he stared at her.
She whinnied happily at him and started towards him but he was rather a far distance away and she wasn't sure how he would ride her when there were so many of these things on her. Requias turned happily back to Miles nodding in the direction of her master. Oh! Maybe if Miles found his mistress they could go riding together again! Come on! Let's go!
Requias trotted lightly on the spot with anticipation. It would be so much fun to go running with Miles again. Up ahead, she could see a great many other runners charging through the Weyr. Oh she wanted to join them too! There was so much she wanted to do but she wanted to run with Miles. He was her best friend and neighbour!
Come on Miles! Let's go! And she started trotting towards her owner once more.

Eeeeeep! Suddenly the hoofthing was going really fast! With a frightened sqrp of a noise, Cassia skittered back up the runner’s neck to reclaim her place at the mane. Basically, she tried to get as close to the big!blues as possible. She trusted the big!blues to always be right, yes? There wasn’t enough room by the swivelthings, but she could certainly cling to the mane very close to the larger blue firelizards.
As Requias started to trot, Cassia relaxed just a little bit. This wasn’t so bad. In fact, it was kind of like flying! Eeee! She loved flying! It was one of those things that she did that she enjoyed! And there was a little hoofbeast! “Krrr?” she said, tilting her head to one side until the entire world was standing at a ninety degree angle. Well, that sure looked funny! World, why you do that?
The barky thing attracted her attention, but was more or less ignored. He was barking all the way over there! Surely, he was barking at something else entirely unrelated to the firelizard fair that had descended over the hungry Requias. Poor little Jet was chirped at curiously. Why you so upset? This was great fun! He should join in!

Now they were really moving. Onward, fourbeast, onward! But not toward the two-legger, that wasn’t where to go. He would capture her and put her away and then they would need a new transportthing. Or they would have to fly. And who wanted to fly. Calling back to those on the beast with a wailing cry he warned them again not to let the bugthings fall; not the bugthings! And then he went back to trying to dissuade the fourleg from going willingly to her captor. He chattered and bespoke the tinyfourthing who ran beside them. Turn her! Turn her! To freedom; this is fun! No one is being hurt, we won’t be hurt everyone is so safe not the twoleg. Where was bluebrother anyway. Off causing trouble no doubt, but there had to be something more fun to do than this!
Holding tightly to the fluffy hairs between the swivelthings, Sigard threw his large wings forward and covered the fourleggers eyes. There! Find your twolegger now! Find that one now! Turn her, turn her! The call rang out from him as he tried to convince all present to push and pull at her so she would go—go and be free where she belonged! He cooed back at Cassiagreenpuff and barked a happy laugh. Free yes! Wasn’t this fun? Typically he didn’t cause so much trouble, but now he had a fair to lead, and he would lead them well! Yes, and they would go places, safe and wonderful places, and find food! Weren’t they all so hungry? Didn’t they want to eat?
Deanninewbaby was holding on so well, but who was this little, little blackfly. He chittered happily at Jet. Salutations little worryfly, come join us! No danger here, none at all. Relax and enjoy!

Worryfly? He was Jet, the tiny black iterated firmly. HisGess had named him after the pretty coallike stone, and explained it to him. Jet. And nonono this was not alright, not at all. Look at the runningrunners... running! They were not supposed to do that right now! They were out of where they Were Supposed To Be! They would Fall and get hurt! Jet knew all about Falling. HisGess told him when he showed Jet the Flyer. The baby flit took off into the air, fluttering his little wings quickly. He spiralled around the Otherman. Couldn't Otherman help? They were doing bad things! Oh oh His would be so upset and there wouldn't be prettythoughts.
Kaydi did not agree of course - she was free! Running! The Little Flying Thing had opened the gate and now she was free, free to pelt across the Bowl with her mane and tail flowing like banners behind her. She snorted and neighed with the sheer happy glory of running - come, all you other Greats! We will run with the wind! Their grazing home would still be there later.
Deanni chirped her admiration. Leaderbrotherblue was so clever, steering Ridingclopgrey. They would go riding and have fun! Deanni loved fun. LovewarmHers always seemed to encourage it. Fun and cuddling. What an adventure she'd have to tell LovewarmHers when she got back!

Shameless and remorseless, Avsiran offered no silly apology when he returned from his mission. Instead, he fluttered right back to the tallthing, which was now absolutely covered with flitterthings -- where had they all come from, anyway? -- and perched on the strong neck behind his brother. Ooh, this was thrilling! And now all the bigthings were free! Freedom was good for --- oh. They weren't free yet! Ignoring the mass of flitters upon the tallthing's back, Avsiran dove from her neck and darted over the milling crowd of tallthings. There were people coming, shouting, and he didn't doubt that they were here to lock up the tallthings again. No! His tallthings were not going to be imprisoned again!
The gate was sturdily locked, with a latch and a chain, but the blue managed to slide open the latch and free the chain that held it closed. As soon as it was, an enterprising tallthing shoved it open and all of the freethings were free to go! Trilling in delight, Avsiran spiraled up above them and then fluttered back to land once more on the tallthing that BigHis liked to ride, once more ignoring all the other flits, at least for the moment. Wasn't he clever? Now all the tallthings could go and play!
Oh, she was so very lovely! Miles nickered in delight when Requias brushed her head against him, and then trotted after her when she headed down the aisle towards the stableyard. The others were milling about -- milling until the smallbluething opened the gate, anyway, and then they were streaming away across the stone and grass, towards freedom. Oh, and there was the lovely grey's master! Miles whinnied and trotted alongside Requias for a short distance before something occurred to him.
This wasn't what he wanted! The twolegs would catch them and put them back in the stables -- or they would ride them, which really wasn't bad, but he liked to be free! Nickering, Miles broke into a canter and angled in front of Requias, making her turn away from her master even as the smallbluething covered her eyes. Didn't she see? They could have so much more fun if they were wild and free! They could always come back to their twolegs later, and the wingedbeasts that flew overhead sometimes probably wouldn't eat them -- at least, the one that belonged to his twoleg had never eaten any of their kind. Snorting a challenge, Miles did something rare: he engaged his hindquarters and launched into a gallop. It wasn't graceful, it wasn't beautiful, it wasn't elegant, but it was a gallop, and he nickered to Requias as he pulled away from her. Didn't she want to run? They should run together, without worrying about their masters!

Wha... Who? What happened? Where did the lights go? Oh that silly creature must have covered her eyes. Tossing her head, Requias tried to remove whatever was covering her eyes but she could feel them trying to push her and direct her some way. She was not their common wingedcreature to push around. She noticed, however, that Miles had started moving.
Oh! Maybe he did want to run with her! Yes obviously Miles wanted to run with her but he was leaving her behind! No, hold up! She whinnied and then ran after the smaller pony using her nose to smell him. This would have been easier, of course, had there not been a firelizard clinging to her snout. She didn't want to lose her best friend because he was awesome. Pricking her ears to listen to where the smaller runner was, she ran after him eventually catching up with the pony and cantering beside him.
She could feel her mane flying and freedom like she'd not felt in some time. She lover her master so much but sometimes it was nice to just run free if only for a short while. Even if she did have a whole hoard of flitters on her back. She could have dislodged them if she had been that way inclined but she just couldn't be bothered.
Where are we going? Requias whinnied to Miles hoping that, while she was currently blind, he would not lead her into any potentially painful sort of obstacles. But she trusted the pony unlike all the creatures on her back whom she was fairly certain would lead her astray. Requias kept pace with the clipity clop of Miles' hooves running beside him.

Yes, that was it; that was what he wanted. Now they were all together and enjoying the freedom the world had to offer without the twoleggers bothering them. No one would take the mare to the large waters, nor would he be forced to carry stupid messages back and forth, or follow that fearful twoelgger that his bonded stayed with. None of that now; none of it! He craned his head around again to stare at those still clinging to the mare, but then returned his own swirling eyes forward when she tossed her head and crowhopped into a canter to dislodge him. Yes! The smaller fourleg was leading her away, pushing her, he wouldn’t have to keep the eyes covered for long. Foreclaws centering between her eyes, he kept his balance with his great wings—tail streaming behind him.
He could hear the others; even that worryblack—silly, silly creature that he was: He obviously didn’t know that things were perfectly alright. Of course his brother should not have let all the others out, but they’d find their way back eventually: Everything did, and really he couldn’t herd them all together at this point—he was too small!. Having now settled in to the happiness of the moment, Sigard did what he did best—he sang. His voice rose above the thunder of hoofbeats like a wind winding its way through the weyropenings when it blew angrily during the storm. Only once the fourleg beneath him was pointed in the right direction (away from the twolegger) did he remove his wings from around her face and resume his hold on her swivelthings.

Ohfaranth what. What. What?! The hoofbeast was going even faster now, speeding up to catch up to the smaller beastwithhooves. Again, Cassia was startled into clinging all the more at Requias’ mane, especially as the tiny hoofbeast started to gallop. “Qeee?” she said, spreading her wings out to catch some wind. Ohh, this was actually a lot of fun! So long as she held her wings carefully, she wouldn’t be swept away.
It felt so much like flying! But it was sooo much easier! Hey! Maybe if they all did this, they could make the fourhoofbeast fly! The little green tried to fix the image in her mind, all the little firelizards lined up in a row, from nose to tail, with their wings outstretched.
But, in the mind of Cassia, everything was just a little wonky. The truth was, everything looked a little bit like MC Escher made a drawing after having a really bad day. Angles didn’t work correctly and the runnerbeasts were transformed from elegant creatures into something a lot bigger, all eyes, swivelthings and hooves.
