It might have only been a handful of days since Ausk's hatching; but Randiel was still shell shocked. He'd not been marked or chosen; however, he'd seen and heard someone lose a wheret partner before the bond was cemented. He still heard Newt's cries ringing in his ears occasionally, though he shoved the memories away as he ate his meat roll. He had done exactly what he was supposed to; if he hadn't surely one of the older Handlers would have been after him by now.
Though he was mutely optimistic about the next time he'd stand. Which would also hopefully give his fellow candidates who weren't picked a chance to Impress. As he thought more about Impressing though, the boy muttered to himself and his pets "do you three think I might impress a female Wheret?". Aela and Farkas chirped querulously at the idea while Majere waved his antennae in either what he thought was a mysterious fashion or likely the bug version of the 'I dunno' shrug humans gave.
Majere would have tried to be more helpful really, but worrying about a thing that hadn't happened yet was pointless. It wasn't a problem so why make it so?. But if his human didn't lighten up he was going to majick him so hard. Not that the bug would do it to be mean; but it was hard to solve your person's problems when he kept running in the same sad lil circle. Even Farkas had tried to convince Randi to go see the kid he seemed concerned for; but Randi had backtracked right after. It was honestly infuriating to Majere, and he wasn't the only one if Aela's repeated mother hen antics were any sign.
Though Farkas did eventually sort out that his person might cheer up if more people were near him. Thus the younger blue flit looked around at all the nearby tables and tried to chirp at the occupants to come over to where his human sat. Hopefully the people would see there was plenty of room near Randi. Of course Farkas nor Aela as she too got in on the invite people over act, thought that Randi might want to be alone for once. But Randi mistook the chitters for the duo yammering at one another and so tuned it out. That would surely be his biggest mistake if anyone cared to heed the flits invites. Majere simply watched and waited for the moment; though he was thinking of making an exodus back to his bonded's current room.

The young wherling sat at one of the tables with a small book in hand. Small only because she had only learned how to read properly when she got here. They weren't her favorite things since she prefers a more hands on approach, but she couldn't deny the sort of nice feeling when you quietly read. There are days when she got up and left Saosk to sleep some more, or after a particularily hard day he would be too tuckered out to want to speak to her. So while his sleepy head was on her lap she would pick up a book.
Today Saosk didn't feel like joining her right away just in case he ran into a certain little green. This was honestly the only time she'd seen him that bothered. Normally he'd rant his spikey face off, but he just really wanted to bite down on her and not let go. Or... maybe this is how he was with other whers? But he let his sister walk all over him, sort of, when he hatched. It worried her, even though he does listen to her... but what if she couldn't? What if she couldn't handle him?
Sighing Saowyn shut the book firmly and placed it on the table, and gave herself a swift mental kick. It was thoughts like this that caused her to falter, and caused Saosk to question her authority. She just needed to go talk to someone, probably Audren... she could probably tell her she's just being silly.
A chirp awoke Saowyn from her thoughts and her eyes landed on a blue flit. She leaned forward and looked right to see someone sitting by himself. With a slight smile she grabbed her book and wandered of to where Randiel sat -- seating herself across from him. "Hi!, she greeted cheerfully, "I hope you don't mind, I think your flit wanted you to have some company." she added with a graceful shrug of her shoulders.
Though Saosk decided he had to come fetch his handler, they were supposed to go out right now and she was still in here! The black made his silent entrance and came up to Saowyn's side, standing on hind legs, feet on the table. WHAT YOU DOING GIRLY, SHARDS WE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE. NOW! he bellowed at her green, orange eyes darting to Randiel for a second before returning to his handler. Azal, her brass pillie made his slow entrance crawling off Saosk's head waving feelers at the brown pillie WooOo?.
Saowyn wound her finger on one of Azal's feelers tapping his shiny shell, while she rolled her eyes at her wher. "I'm Saowyn by the way, and this is Saosk." She affectionately scratched at Saosk's head, with a cheeky smile in response to his demands. He seemed to tense up, only because he didn't like others to know he liked Saowyn's attention. STOP....

Randiel had been face-deep in his food as Saowyn approached and spoke. but after a few second moment of choking on a wrongly swallowed bite of food he shook his head and took a swig of juice to swallow better. He coughed lightly as he smiled at her "it's fine, go ahead and sit. Sorry for being so startled there; head was in the clouds I s'pose". This admission of deetdedeness would be met with the light 'wap' of Aela facewinging, as well as the querulous chirrup of Farkas.
Majere for his part just clicked his mandibles a bit then Krekre'd at the arrival of the small black wher. Though he waved his feelers in a surprisingly friendly way to Azal. Well it was surprising to Randi anyway as he looked curiously at his brown pillie then in the direction of the brass. Which led to him seeing the newly arrived Wheret; though he was quick to focus on the end of the black wheret's snoot instead of looking Saosk in the eyes. But of course Randi wouldn't be the occasional rockbrain his family all knew him for if he didn't stand to get a better look at the young wher "well hello Saowyn and Saosk; I'm Randiel and the pink flit is Aela the blue is Farkas and the brown pillie is Majere".
Then his introduction was ended with what was intended to be a well meant observation "has Saosk been eating ok? he seems smaller than the other young whers I've seen trundle about". Of course, not being the wheret's bonded; Randiel had no idea his words might set off something worse than the likely faint for Saosk grousing he'd done at his handler. Though he couldn't help a chuckle at the handler to wheret interaction, noting how the black ball of spikes tensed a bit "is he ok? or just grumpy from too long a nap?". Majere for his part looked to Azal and chittered curiously as his person spoke to Saowyn.
Majere honestly wanted to know if Azal's human was about to take offence at the big blonde idjit's well meant words as the brown pillie issued a secretive Krekre...krekrekre...kre? to the other pillie. Then settled to see if any potential fireworks were aout to occur. Sure he tried to help his person with troubles; but if he just dug himself a hole this little brown was not about to leap in an save him till positively needed.

Genner was not in the best of moods. Then again, he rarely was, recently. The hatching hadn't disturbed him overmuch, however. Wher hatchings were usually violent and messy. What had happened with Newtollen was unfortunate, surely, but not life-altering for the seasoned handler.
One thing that had altered his life, however, was the arrival of Mouse and Gennesk's subsequent need to vet all whers who got around her. In particular, there were a few little hatchlings that made his wher particularly upset. His eyes narrowed as he spotted one of the handlers he wanted to speak to. Gennesk trotted behind him like a big brown shadow, chattering happily in his head. Task is be come! Gennesk is be see Task, is be for dance, is be for guard, Mini-Ana is be safe, delicious-stuff is be safe! The chattering tailed off suddenly. Genner patted his nose, heading over to the table where the candidate and the wherling were sitting.
"Wherling Saowyn, a word," he growled. Genesk loomed over Saosk, glaring down at him, his eyes a triumphant green.
Saosk is be for squish, he told the little black.

Saowyn smiled warmly at Randiel when he introduced himself, and his small gathering of companions. She only had Azal and Wim... but they were more than enough for her especially with her spiky other half. She had dismissed his early apology since she was often lost to her own thoughts lately.
WooooOo? piped up the brass she was absentmindedly tapping. "Oh! This is Azal." she added quickly, earning her a mental brush which was felt strangely akin to an eye roll on Saosk's part.
At first she didn't fully register Randiel's words as intently as she was listening. After all it was so casually spoken she didn't have any sort of guard up. But as soon as smaller was spoken, her eyes sort of went wide and she moved to push Saosk's snout off the table -- just as his eyes snapped to an angry red. Though her sudden nervousness didn't help Saosk's sudden reaction. He almost pushed by Saowyn clambering onto a chair... his eyes boring into Randiel's.
SMALL?! YOU THINK SAOSK SMALL? SAOSK SHOULD STOMP NO WORTH HUMAN DOWN SIZE! THEN... THEN SMOKELESS PUNGENT WORTHLESS WHERRY BRAIN WILL SEE SAOSK NOT SO TINY. he bellowed directly at Randiel clawed feet on the table, and his wings flared threateningly.
That is until his handler shoved him off, back to the floor. SAOSK SHOW THEM! SAOSK SHOW THEM HE NOT SO SMALL. She couldn't stop him from bellowing his thoughts, but she could stop him from doing anything else. Saosk was seething on the floor repeatedly babbling the same thing over and over though Randiel was spared most of it. "I'm... so sorry. He wouldn't have hurt you... not physically.." she quickly apologized as soon as Saosk was seemingly under-control. "He's very..." she paused carefully choosing her next words as Saosk slid still seething gaze to her, " particular about... certain name calling." she explained her eyes searching Randiel's, sorely embarrassed... but she couldn't just hide from everyone.
She should seriously just post a warning around the weyr.
She didn't realize Genner was there until Saosk's demeanor changed suddenly from seething to almost instantaneous submission -- and well Genner growling out her name and title. She twisted in her seat, standing up immediately facing Genner, "sure" she replied her voice light -- though she dreaded it due to the look on his face. Her eyes darted to Saosk, who had tucked his wings in tight and head lowered, though his red eyes had a tinge of orange yellow flickering within them.
The wherling followed Genner off to the side (if he had moved), and waited patiently.
Saosk, clearly threatened by Gennesk's presence, lifted his head up slightly.... not liking how the older much larger wher was looming over him. SAOSK... he began but trailed off before trying again. SAOSK NOT FOR SQUISH!. The mindvoice was like a hoarse forced whisper... like someone trying to angrily whisper at someone but not really whispering.
