The black firelizard's Hatching gained a low croon from Akal, and the black flit made a gesturing 'come hither' movement with his tail. Tylar sighed, "You sharding idiotic 'lizard, you're not about to bring in a flit for Impression with little tail movements." he whispered with a hint of annoyance in his voice. Akal gave a low growl, sinking his claws deeper into the padded spot on Tylar's shoulder, almost saying 'I'm going to have a black brother, no matter what you say' and the flit sent an accompanying thought to Tylar, comprised of a single image, two black firelizards chattering to each other. "Silly..." Tylar replied with a hint of laughter to his voice. "'Sides, you missed the Impression." he gave a congratulatory nod towards the boy who'd managed to Impress four flits - four! - and he didn't envy the boy one bit. Akal hissed in annoyance, glaring at the ribby black. That was supposed to be his brother! His! Not some boy's... Tylar would've paid more attention to his flit's anger, but it was the bronze who stole his attention. Imagine the status he would gain from Impressing a bronze flit... Okay, well, maybe not, but to have a bronze firelizard would be to stand with those like the Weyrwoman herself. There weren't very many in this young Weyr that had Impressed bronzes, and Tylar was eager to count himself as one of them. Akal caught the tail end of his thought, and gave another hiss, flashing an angry image to His of a black and bronze firelizard fighting, his eyes whirling with a hint of red to them, Akal lashed his tail from side to side. "Relax..." Tylar soothed stroking the black's wing, not that it was a comfortable contortion, "It was only a passing thought." Akal hissed in annoyance, but settled down once more, and turned with an air of eagerness back to the eggs. One of those would be his black brother, his companion in all walks of life.

I should have known this wasn't real, And fought it off and fought to feel, What matters most, everything, That you feel while listening to every word that I sing.
"Oh, come on;" P'nay grumbled at the sight of four of the little flitters Impressing to one boy who didn't even have food and wasn't even near the front. He didn't even look happy at the pink, black, blue, and green forms climbing on him! Like a cross child, he crossed his arms and hunched up his shoulder, before hurriedly straightening when he realized he was getting meat all over his shirt. He didn't mind much, but he preferred to keep smelly substances off his clothes. Annith would tell him kindly to take a bath immediately after he was done if he started to stink of meat.
W'al clapped, with some sarcasm to the motion, for N'tal, grinning and shaking his head with amusement. With any luck, Gulath wouldn't eat that adorably odd quartet that now hung about the boy. He didn't suppose N'tal would treat them the best, but he could hardly see how they could hurt the grumpy weyrling. "We are simply too interested;" he commented to P'nay. He wasn't bothered. He didn't want four firelizards. He wanted one, and could live without that. In the back of his mind, he was reminded, by himself, that he had worked to do, and he had to shrug that off.
Throwing being disgruntle to the wind, P'nay chuckled and grinned widely. He waved at N'tal. "Congratulations;" he called teasingly, with laughter to his tone. His voice was loud, somewhat obnoxious, cutting over the hum of light, excitable chatter in the crammed weyr to reach the weyrling. Then he turned away hurriedly, so that the back of his head faced the boy. It wouldn't exactly be hard to figure out who had said that, but he didn't care about being found out so much as snickering like an idiot under the disbelieved, amused gaze of W'al. He tried to focus on the eggs.
There was only a flamboyant bronze strutting about, left among the twelve remaining eggs. P'nay considered teasing the arrogant fellow, but he thought better of it. Outside, Annith let out a sigh of relief. He grinned. He really didn't need to get scratched up by the little King flitter or receive a mauling from his watching, proud, coppery mother. He was rather an oblivious fellow, having not noticed that he was all alone and that all of his other siblings that had hatched had bonded. Probably liked all the attention that he got from being alone on the bed. Silly little, egocentric creature.
Why do you do this to me? Why do you do this so easily? You make it hard to smile because, You make it hard to breathe.

Shanza cocked her head to the side, not completely sure what to make of four of her children Impressing to one person. That wasn't normal, was it? She couldn't remember the details of her last clutches very well, but she was fairly certain that this hadn't happened then... but, then again, B'nyur had usually given away or sold her eggs, and he didn't hate anyone enough to give them more than one egg, and only someone incredibly stupid or somewhat suicidal would buy multiple eggs, much less four! Babies were silly, needy creatures that needed constant care and got into more trouble than they were worth. She had seen hers run their bondeds ragged, and that was alone! But, four at once? She saw him look back at the Blue out on the ledge with some of the other dragons. He had a Weyrling dragon, too? She gave a high-pitched, squealing rumble in laughter. That poor thing!
However, she did notice that since N'tal had Impressed four of her lovely children, there were a lot more people for a lot fewer firelizards, which made her happy. Maybe all of her babies would get to bond, after all! They might just have to share people, but the quartet that had bonded to N'tal didn't seem to mind very much. He fed them all and they were now quietly curled up on him. Yes, just like R'ori could share a bed with F'let while her eggs were hardening had been a perfect solution (that hadn't really worked because of R'ori's trepidation), the remaining firelizards Impressing to the same person as some of their clutchbrothers and sisters was a perfect solution, too (that would probably drive said people mad)!
The Bronze was still strutting around, quite enjoying being the only hatched firelizard at the moment. He flared his minute wings and bared his tiny teeth incessantly, as if trying to get people to admire him. And why shouldn't they? He was the best Bronze to ever hatch! Surely everyone could see that. Now that the drama with the four firelizards was over, everyone would have time to look at his strange markings. If he hadn't been metallic, his pale hide and darker markings on his legs and back would have made him like the little twin of a dun runner.
He was so absorbed in showing off that he jumped a good six inches in the air (which was quite a lot for such a tiny creature) when the two eggs leaned on each other at the center of the clutch broke open at nearly the same time. Out rolled two Greens that might have passed for twins if such a thing existed in firelizards, which it didn't. They had the same stocky build that seemed destined to grow chubby and rotund with liberal feeding, with cute, delicate heads and big, expressive eyes. However, one sister's hide was just a shade yellower than the other's, a difference that was only noticeable because they were sitting nearly on top of each other, and the same sister had a large spot of teal on her nose.
The greener of the two immediately leapt into the air, chattering nonsense and flapping her wings crazily. She began to almost dance around, though managing to trip over one of the folds in the furs and fall onto her nose quickly. The teal-tipped Green chattered at her sister and dashed after her, rumbling with laughter when she saw that she was fine. The Green that had tripped jumped back up soon enough and continued to dance crazily, quite humorous with her hatchling awkwardness. Her sister chirped in reprimand and chattered softly to the other one, who seemed to understand. They bent their heads and made soft noises, seeming to almost plot some conspiracy. They could be trouble.
Again completely oblivious of his siblings' drama, the Bronze was suddenly struck by a desperate feeling of hunger. He needed food, and he needed it now! He creeled pitifully, staggering around, panicking. He didn't know what to do! He tensed his hind muscles, ready to scamper off to go foraging, but was blocked by a forceful mental order from Shanza. His instinct was to automatically obey a Queen, any Queen, and when she ordered him to bond to a person like the other firelizards, he followed through with his leap off of the ledge, but this time it was no towards the open skies, but towards the people. His momma had told him they had food!
He bugled commandingly at Tylar's feet, giving the boy a hasty, rainbow-filled look of Impression before sending the Candidate a series of orders that included picking him up and satisfying his incredible hunger. He was so overcome by his appetite that he didn't notice the Black flitter on Tylar's shoulder. His and the food that His had for him were the only things that mattered! Bronze (8B795E), bonded to Tylar (courtesy of Jack)Personality:A simple-minded fellow, this Bronze considers himself to be the best of the best...but doesn't mind admitting that a few others tie with him in some aspects. He is fascinated by natural objects, more specifically stones and rocks, and may carry some around in his mouth if you don't watch him. This Bronze is as loyal--if not more--than a typical Brown. He's a one-person deal, and will give all of his attention to that one person. Watch out though! He's a shade bit protective and will nip anyone who comes too close to His without permission. Appearance: A fairly pale color for a Bronze, this flit makes up for his softer color with a richer, more metallic shine. He's fairly lean for a Bronze, with darker accents around his eyes and zebra-like stripes along his muzzle. He has a single stripe that goes down his back, as well as more stripes on the backs of all four legs. His tail is spaded.

The Bronze drew Tylar's gaze steadily, and he smiled slightly as the creature strutted back and forth on the bed, before it finally began to amble towards the 'Candidates' and then, he began to laugh as the creature settled down at his feet, bugling loudly. The rapid Impression was followed by several orders, and Tylar crouched down, gathering the bronze creature in one hand, and he came willingly enough, if only so that he could immediately attack the food held in Tylar's other hand. "Greedy guts." Tylar commented with a grin as the firelizard's tongue was flicking against his skin.
Akal gave a startled screech, having only just realized what had happened, snarled at the Bronze. Unconcerned, the bronze peered sleepily at the black, who screeched again, flapping at the bronze. It was Tylar's hold on Akal's mind that brought the flit up short, eyes whirling fiercely red, but he submitted, if a bit (okay, a lot) unwillingly. "Stop." his voice was dangerous, firm, and cold. Both flits were brought up short, even if the bronze hadn't done a thing. Yet. The still unnamed bronze gave a quiet creel, still rather hungry. His should feed him, and get rid of that nasty tempered little creature that thought to drive him away from His. Tylar smiled slightly, "Right, more food." he murmured, reaching his still rather bloody and meat juice-y hand to pat the bronze on the head. "Of course."
Akal hissed in annoyance, flashing between, back to His' room in the Candidate Barracks. He would take care of this bronze threat at a later point, but for now, the flit would just . . . scheme. That sounded about right. Just scheme.
The bronze creeled impatiently as Tylar helped himself to another handful of meat, which he promptly dug into, and before long, he'd polished off that as well.
"I don't think we need to weigh in on their hospitality anymore," Tylar grinned, "Let's go towards the kitchens for more meat."
The two wriggled their way out of the tightly packed Weyr, heading down towards the kitchens, Tylar mumbling contentedly all the way. Finally, his tongue tripping over his words, he ended up saying 'Meggo' instead of 'Leggo' as the little bronze was tugging dedicatedly on Tylar's shirt.
This seemed to have far more affect than a simple 'let go' did, and the bronze stopped immediately. "Meggo, eh?" Tylar grinned slightly, but the bronze didn't answer, having dozed off...
((Kinda bad, but oh well... xD I have to go right now... o__o I might edit this in a bit, but my mom's bugging me about swim practice.))

D’lios was here because he thought that he should have a firelizard- he should have at least one of everything worthwhile- but this was madness. Why on Pern had this little Queen chosen to clutch in some boy’s personal Weyr? It was very cramped. And it wasn’t as though it were a small clutch either. There was a large crowd of Dalibor weyrfolk gathered in hopes of impressing one of the hatchlings or even just to watch. Being so crowded seemed undignified, but he would have to overlook it. He would have to overlook almost his whole existence in this place. He constantly faced this new reality with a smile, for he would conquer it and he would overcome it. This is what he had wanted, and he had gotten it. Of course. He would accept the…. Trials that came along with it. At least no one was pressed up against him. Why did I not just buy an egg? he wondered as shells flew and the younger people shrieked with delight. I could have gotten, with no guesswork, a small Queen or King. I could have bypassed all of this.
No! That would take far too long, Mine, and this is what everyone else is doing. Get a little brother or sister now! Perbiath protested from outside. He, on the other hand, was genuinely sociable. Perhaps one of the dragons of the other riders who were gathered here would talk to him.
Perbiath, you only want me to obtain a firelizard so that you can boss it around and make it follow you. I will have one so that it can be trained and useful. Not having one of these creatures around here makes you seem lacking in some way. And I do /not/ need to do things in the way everyone else does. Nor do you. Never stoop to conform to the way of the masses- Great Faranth! Some boy just impressed four of them!
Four!? Perbiath exclaimed, practically dancing. He did not deny any of what D’lios had accused him, nor did he show any sign of having to listened to what he had been lectured on. Impress four, Mine! Or five!!! Five would make you better than everyone!
~~~
Some Blues and Greens…. Oh, what a beautiful Purple! …. A Black and a Pink…. Oh my goodness, Ecco! N’tal was just chosen by four at once! Sol looked on with rapt attention as she described the hatching to Eccolath and sent her pictures of the charming little hatchlings. They were all so cute! She was deeply wrapped up in the event now, despite her initial protests about not coming. She was glad that she had.
Miiiiiiiiine! Please bring home one. Or four! What fun we’d have, Eccolath pleaded. Oh hush, you. Don’t tempt me. You sound just like Pratyba! First of all, I can’t just snatch one up- that’s not how it works. And secondly, poor Hally wouldn’t be happy about it all. Come on, love. Little brother is in your room hiding like always- He’s sleeping! It is the same! If he had a friend perhaps he would not be so shy…
In the weyr Sol pursed her lips and put her hands on her hips. To anyone looking at her now as she reflected only half-hearted disapproval at a conversation that only she could hear she would appear quite comical. She tossed her hair over her shoulders and straightened up in frustration, glancing at the doorway. I would very much like to watch the rest of the hatching, Ecco. Do you mind? A Bronze has just hatched and two pretty little Greens. Do you want to play by play or no?
Eccolath crooned her apologies and relented, knowing she was pressing Hers harder than usual. The Cyan was not a very insistent dragon. Inside, Sol softened, feeling guilty for having been stern with her bonded. The Bronze has just impressed, she offered softly. And the Greens are very pretty. You should see how they chatter and dance. Sol smiled. The two certainly helped lighten the mood. They’re plotting now. They’re just like me and Pratyba!
Friends sing together, lalalala, Friends do things together, lalalala, Friends laugh together, hahahaha, Friends make graphs together, lalalala.
The bronze Impressed to another of the candidates, a boy with an odd black. In proper hatching etiquette, P'nay clapped. He was only vaguely aware of W'al, clapping and intent on the eggs and young flitters. He'd learned of hatchings so long ago, turns ago, almost six. Had it really been that long? He could remember it like it was yesterday. It had been the last egg. All the other dragons, only four because it had been small, had Impressed already before she decided to hatch. He hadn't even though she'd pick him! But pick him she had, his beautiful Annith! He smiled fondly at the memory, the hatching fading out of his attention. Would bonding to a firelizard compare? Of course, he still wanted one. He blinked.
Silly P'nayMine. I love you most, but a firelizard will be a very good friend for you; the yellow interjected into his thoughts in her kind, assuring voice. She couldn't remember the moment of her hatching in quite so much detail, but her ability to remember it was solid enough that she could recall it with a clear clarity to the lovely emotions. He grinned, enjoying feeling her lurking in his mind in her kindly fashion. Outside, she hovered, half alighted on the ledge of the weyr. Kerath was shifting, going to settle on a ledge a little ways from the hatching. She glanced at the purple, being mothering and breaking the tender moment between her and her rider. He chuckled to himself, at her, not minding in the slightest.
W'al glanced at him. He just grinned. The purplerider didn't care that much anyway, more preoccupied with the eggs. P'nay focused. There were two flitters on the bed, along with ten eggs. The pair were green, and they were certainly a pair. They'd been doing shenanigans, so he hadn't seemed to have missed much, but now appeared to be deep in conversation. Could firelizards have deep conversations? If they could, would a pair of newly hatched, awkward greens be capable of that? Oh, what a quandary it was! He might never know the answer! Unless he bonded to one of the firelizards, of course! He eyed the conniving pair with interest, in a way that suggested more amusement than any serious thought.
Green, blue, black, bronze, purple, pink! It didn't matter in the slightest to him! It didn't matter to either of them, the yellowrider or the weyrlingmaster. One in the same as they watched, the two goofy riders, though entirely different and barely friends in the normal world, if such a world existed between all the odd events of their lives, they watched the eggs. P'nay wondered how long this was going to take. He was hungry. Mine, but the poor babies will be hungrier! There might be one just for you, and you will need to feed it; Annith informed him, voice earnest. He couldn't let any of the poor flitter babies possibly die! Ignoring the fact they could go wild, P'nay went with it, chuckling at her and the two green lizards.
Friends help you when you're in danger, Friends are people who are not strangers, Friends help you shift into a new place, Tell you if you've got food on you're face.
For a moment, it was quiet on R'ori's bed, other than the occasional impatient rustle of wings from either of the two Green sisters or their almost inaudible, incessant chattering. Shanza just tilted her head and gave them a curious glance, uncertain of what they were planning but quite reluctant to hurry them along. She wanted to see what was going to come from this! However, the inactivity did not last long, as it tended not to at Hatchings. An egg near the pillow, the one directly under Shanza, began to wriggle in earnest. The Copper adjusted her stance, dropping down onto all four limbs to get a better look at the egg. She thought the two Greens would make it painfully obvious when they had finished planning whatever it was they were planning.
A tiny crack appeared in the tiny egg, almost invisible except to Shanza. She crooned encouragingly, but while the egg kept rocking in earnest, no further progress was made on the crack. A tiny squeal was heard from the egg before the creature inside gave an almighty effort and split her shell. Yes, her, it was another Green, though while the other two were chubby and lime, this one was sleek and a soft sea-green. She chirped triumphantly, wriggling out of the shards and looking around at her newfound world. Shanza crooned in response. The Green looked up at her mother, chirping in happiness. She was so big! And shiny! The chattering of the two other Greens drew her extensive curiosity next. Look! More of them! But they were small-- like her! And not so shiny!
She squeaked cheerfully before going over to greet them, but before she could, the greener of the two Greens, the one that had tripped earlier, threw open her wings and bugled, drawing everyone's attention back to them. They were ready! The yellower, mellower Green hummed a catchy little melody while her sister sashayed across the bed, flapping her wings extravagantly and stopping to preen every few seconds. However, then, that Green began to pick up the annoying little song while the yellower Green drew herself up and gave a deep, throaty roar that sounded anything but feminine. She-pretending-to-be-a-he strutted in a laughably masculine manner towards the greener Green, but just as she (or he or whatever) reached her, she-as-a-he took the melody from the other, like they were passing a baton, and the greener Green gave a scoffing squeal, standing on her two legs and thrusting out a forepaw, pads extended towards the yellower Green in a classic, unmistakable gesture of rejection. The yellower Green slumped down in depression, but her whirling blue eyes gave away how much fun she was having doing this. The other Green huffed in disdain before ambling away.
Another egg hatched partway through the act, though quietly, without much fanfare. A large, fat Pink slithered her way out of her egg and flopped down appreciatively into the soft, warm furs to enjoy the show. She was happy to be out of the limelight and in the shadows, cowardly and slightly shy as she was. The other, sea-foam-colored Green was one of the few that saw her sister's appearance, and she slipped noiselessly next to her, far too enraptured by what the two Greens were doing on their makeshift stage to quell her growing hunger by seeking out a person.
The greener Green playing the part of a female suddenly emerged from off the side, sprinting across the bed, chased by the yellower one, playing the male. They nearly fell off of the bed in their haste, but it wasn't long before they were going through the return trip, the 'female' still sprinting, the yellow going fast but not quite at his previous clip. The greener Green came precariously close to bumping an egg. Inwardly, she wanted to shriek at the stupid, unnecessary prop, but outwardly, she didn't let it affect her performance. She dashed back across the bed, her sister visibly lagging this time. They repeated this a few more times, each time the yellower Green going slightly slower, until, finally, she simply collapsed in the middle of the furs, limbs sprawled everywhere. When the other Green sauntered by in triumph, the 'male' gave no indication of having seen her after being rejected so many times.
As the greener Green flounced past yet again, the yellower one finally heaved a sigh and walked off heavily, the happy little melody slowed down enough to turn mournful. The greener Green gave a confused chirp, pacing restlessly for a moment. She sat down on her haunches, dipping her head and working her mouth, apparently deep in thought. Then, suddenly, she jumped up and chased after the 'male,' crooning affectionately. The 'male' gave her a disdainful look before running off, pursued furiously by the 'female.' They ran off of the bed, clearly ending the scene. The yellower sister began scampering off to find her person, but the greener one couldn't help but scramble back onto the bed, flare her wings, and give what could have been mistaken for a bow. Then, she, too, dashed off after her sister, who greeted her with a gently reprimanding chirp.
However, the Pink and the other Green had already been deciding Theirs, and they beat the pair of Greens to it. The chipper, curious Green was far faster than her lazy Pink sister, sizing up the people and the amount of food in their hands before taking one agile leap, latching her tiny talons securely in the front of Belor's tunic. She chirped cheerfully before scrambling up on top of his head and nuzzling him, Impressing to him and asking politely to be fed.
The Pink took longer, heaving her heavy body to her feet with difficulty that came from hatchling awkwardness. She ambled over to the side of the bed, dropping like a stone before scuttling over to Sol. She crooned once, affectionately but loudly enough, at the Cyanrider's feet. Impression was made-- and it looked like the acting pair of Greens would make their choice within a few seconds, and there were few doubts that they wouldn't follow in N'tal's quartet's footsteps and Impress together.
Ooc: Yes, the random number generator loves you, Kila. <3 I swear I did not put together any of these pairings intentionally! ^^ Green- (4E9258), bonded to Belor (courtesy of Kyril)Personality:Quite the happy-go-lucky green, this girl never fails to have a positive attitude. She isn't hyperactive or excitable, though - merely unwaveringly cheerful. She won't hesitate to try and cheer others up, either, and is quite empathetic and perceptive for a firelizard. She's fairly social, and very affectionate, particularly with her human. Though she enjoys going out and meeting other people occasionally, she much prefers spending time with her own. She's also quite curious, and is entirely unafraid of new situations or challenges. She relishes any opportunity to learn something new, although she doesn't always think her actions through beforehand. Appearance:This little lady is quite small for a green, but well-proportioned and sleek, all feminine charm and grace. She'll be quick on-wing once she starts flying, and she'll no doubt make quite the little air acrobat. Her hide is predominantly a gentle sea-green, like a breath of fresh air. The color is mostly unmarred, but it gets subtly lighter along her extremities, fading gradually into a lovely pastel green. Pink- (FFBBFF), bonded to SolPersonality:This firelizard is lazy. She simply cannot be motivated to do anything, ever. She will rarely venture outside of Hers’s weyr, for the simple reason that doing so requires far too much effort. She’ll barely even get to her feet to find food. Instead, she’ll sit right where she is and pester Hers with desperately hungry emotions and frantic images until Hers complies and runs down to the kitchen to find food for her. She has the intelligence to be manipulative like that, but she doesn’t like to think. It just requires far too much effort on her part! She’s also something of a coward. The majority of the reason she rarely leaves Hers’s weyr unless carried is because that’s too much work for her, but it’s also because she’s a bit afraid. Pink firelizards are but little mites compared to everything else in a Weyr- especially dragons! This Pink doesn’t mind them up close and lying down, but flying through the air? Eek! Other people are scary, too, which is why Hers’s weyr is such a nice place to stay. She also tends to be shier, happy to live her simple life and avoid adventure. However, she adores attention and is often found curled up in Hers’s lap, being petted rather like a feline. Appearance:Her sedentary lifestyle is obvious. She has a fairly small frame, and with the amount of flying around and making trouble the typical ‘lizard does, she’d be quite slim. However, she’s very fat, apparent at birth and only destined to get worse as she finishes growing. She doesn’t exactly carry her weight well, with more flab than chubbiness, and she’s slow and clumsy on the ground. In the air, she manages surprisingly well, though her stamina is almost laughably bad. Her hide is a pale, pretty pink with much darker, almost magenta wingsails, a striking combination.
Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring, Banana phone, Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring, Banana phone.
P'nay watched the intricate performance of the two greens with bright eyes. He didn't particularly pay much attention to the details. At times, he had a lack of an attention span to match Osro. However, he found it amazing, their simple ability to actually do it, the fact that they actually wanted to put on such a performance. It was wondrous! Poor fake male green, always being rejected! He couldn't catch a break, and the yellowrider could sympathize with that sort of thing! He chuckled to himself as he watched the pair with a very focused gaze. He didn't want to miss a single part! He was a very good audience member. W'al wasn't paying nearly as much attention as him from where he stood beside him, for shame!
Even before the pink and the green not involved in the engaging performance bonded, P'nay clapped. The two recently hatched little flitters had hardly been on his radar. He clapped for the ending of the scene that the pair of greens had finished. Then he blinked in surprise to look and see that another candidate had a green and another weyrling had a pink. His clapping slackened off as he watched the newest bonded firelizards and their extremely lucky chosen ones. He didn't care so much about those two. He hadn't even really paid them any attention. It was all the others. Only the two greens, who were amazing, and, he counted, eight unhatched eggs. Neither he or W'al had a single shard. It was a bit depressing, that sort of loneliness in that occasion.
Mine. As always, the warm, gentle voice came back, so reassuring. It didn't matter if he had a flitter or not. He probably would get one though, because he was so amazing, but he'd still be amazing if he didn't get one. The voice said all that, reassuring him. He was buoyed by it, and W'al didn't even notice his moment of sulking, so he received no amused look. He grinned, a lopsided grin, and surveyed the remaining eggs.
In truth, P'nay didn't have a totally awful brain inside his head, and he started to figure things out. Twenty-one eggs. Those two greens, plus three others, and two pinks. A little less than a half of the remaining eggs would contain pinks or greens. Two, no, three blues, and a black. Most of the ones that weren't pinks or greens would probably be those. Huh. What else had there been? One bronze. There might be another King. Probably not. Only a purple, no browns. There had to be a brown. Or another purple! Oh, and maybe an orange! He hummed to himself. The useless thinking soothed him, Annith assisting by helping him recall on what experience they had. The few spare moments passed nicely.
It's a real live mama and papa phone, A brother and sister and a dogaphone, A grandpa phone and a grandma phone too, Oh yeah, my cellular bananular phone.
Engrye felt kind of unattached to the Hatching, really. She watched, but none of the firelizards came her way, no matter how much she tried to hold the meat out to them, to try and attract them to her. Was she just unattractive? Well, to firelizards maybe. Engrye never had any personal self confidence issues, and in fact was rather full of herself, but this Hatching was kind of a downer. One of the boys had Impressed four of the sharding things, and she hadn't even gotten one. That wasn't fair, was it?
When Tylar Impressed the Bronze it only made Engrye's blood begin to boil with rage, but she didn't even turn her head to look at him. Why should he get to Impress a sharding Bronze when he already had that Black of his? A Black that he neglected no less. Why should he get a Bronze? She tried to stop thinking such bitter thoughts, but really, she couldn't help it. What Tylar had said to her the last time they'd talked hadn't bothered her, but the fact that he'd Impressed a Bronze did. Well, it wasn't a dragon or anything, but still. She didn't know if she'd be able to stay here if he was the kind of person that Impressed Bronze dragons. Surely the dragons had better taste than that.
The red-haired girl continued to watch as firelizard after firelizard emerged from their eggs and went to someone else. She pouted indignantly, but kept holding out the single piece of meat, waiting for one of them to come near her. Maybe she should try tempting them more? But she didn't want to attract attention to herself. Which, really, was a stupid reason for not trying to get the firelizards to come closer to her, but that was the truth. She was fine fading into the background, and if she didn't Impress a firelizard then whatever. She didn't need one.
R'ori, on the other hand, was still leaning against the wall next to his bed, watching the Hatching with one eye open. He was really uninterested in it. Firelizards everywhere, all over his sharding bed... and those eggshells, shard it, he was going to be finding those in his bed for weeks! Whatever. Phareon was happy, and the least R'ori could do was let him be happy for once. The Bronze hadn't ever won a Flight before, so he deserved it. I'm proud of how you handled this, Vediameth mused, and R'ori could feel her smile in his mind. He decided not to answer her. Stupid sharding smug dragon, this was all her fault, somehow.[/blockquote]
Oh, Ecco, another little Green just hatched! She’s such a darling, and not quite so chubby as the two that are still huddled up plotting. Those two are trouble for sure! Sol declared as she continued to give the play by play. Oh, wait. I think they’re ready. One of them has even announced it. Like most everyone else in the room, Sol watched as the two little Greens began their antics. Why, it looks like one of them is playing a man and the other a woman. What a good singer that one is. Sol unconsciously took up the catchy tune and began to hum it. Oh no! She rejected her! Him! …Her! Sol laughed in delight and clapped at the little show, moving closer so she could watch. They were quite the little pair of performers, for sure!
Since she had gotten closer and closer to the clutch nestled in the furs of one of her fellow Weyrling’s cot throughout the hatching, Sol saw the slimmer Green slip away and was delighted to find that another flitter had hatched during the spectacle that her sisters were presenting. A fat, lazy little Pink was sprawled inconspicuously in the furs off to the side of the cot, away from the main action. What is it? Eccolath asked eagerly, sensing her riders distraction. A chubby little Pink hatched when I wasn’t looking, Sol reported. Poor thing, I bet hardly anyone has noticed her with her sisters running about. Are they still? Eccolath asked with interest. Now those would be fun little flitters to play with! She hoped they chose Hers too. Yes, Sol said with amusement, going back to watching them chase each other to and fro.
Sol applauded when the show was over and the little Greens bowed to their audience. What personalities for such little creatures, she thought to herself. They’ll surely impress soon now, Ecco. Yes, they’re looking about now. I bet they’re hungry after all that! I- Sol’s thoughts were interrupted as she heard a small croon at her feet. She looked down and was shocked to see the Pink there, staring up at her with hunger and love in her eyes. ”But…” Sol looked to where the Pink had been sitting and then back to her feet. Sol didn’t think she would have been capable of moving so fast. The hatchling crooned again pathetically and sat down on her foot, wrapping her tail around Sol’s ankle. Sol didn’t think she was capable of being that heavy either. ”Why… you weigh as much as Hally does now and you’ve only just hatched,” she said, bending down and scooping up the little dear in her hands. The Pink liked this but was still hungry. She looked up at Sol and whined, opening her mouth and pestering her new bonded with feelings of hunger.
Sol gave a defeated kind of smile and moved over to the bowl of meat, picking up the little pieces and beginning to feed her. ”Why did you choose me, you silly thing? I already have a firelizard.” The Pink didn’t seem to mind this at all and only continued eating, snapping at the food she was offered as if her life depended on it. What a glutton…
MINE! Come show it to me! The Pink little sister picked you? Is she cute? Is she fun? Oh, I bet we’ll have great times. She will not be so afraid as little brother. I will teach her to play with me. Come one, MineOwn!
Irath's eyes lit up as she observed that silly N'tal humanling Impress to four firelizards. He looked far from thrilled, and she felt quite satisfied. He deserved the little rascals! Her lips pulled back in a toothy, mean draconic smile, and her mindvoice radiated with chuckles that she didn't bother to hide from Gulath.
Perhaps Yours really will let you eat them now. Gulath commented, then, that he was sure Tesla would get a firelizard of her own; and despite the fact that Irath most certainly did not want a firelizard, she was strangely pleased that Gulath was thinking of Hers. Puffing out her chest, she flicked her tail idly and sent the blue a sidelong glance. But of course. What firelizard wouldn't want Mineown? She shall have the best of the bunch! Just you wait and see. She couldn't quite imbue her mindvoice with the bravado she had intended; she sounded rather bummed out in spite of her confident words. Those stupid sharding little lizards! They were so annoying. And with so many of them hatching, hers probably would get one...
Tesla, for her part, was quite surprised that four 'lizards had bonded to one human - and was even more surprised that that human had been N'tal! She felt just a little jealous, for a moment, and so did not give him a smile or congratulations as she had intended. But within another moment she had talked herself out of the jealousy; the hatching wasn't over yet, and it wasn't as though the antisocial bluerider had seemed particularly thrilled about his Impression... she wondered, idly, why he'd shown up to begin with. Still, it was be interesting to see how he would deal with them in the future, and since they had lessons together she was sure to see him again soon. It was a curious event, and she did so love those...
Turning her attention back to the bed and the clutch, she watched eagerly as a bronze Impressed, as well as a pink and another green. Her chances at Impressing were dwindling, but there were still many unhatched. And there were still two greens out, who appeared to be... acting? She watched their antics, bemused, and chuckled as they gallivanted about and put on a show. She was surprised at their behavior; it was quite atypical, and certainly just as curious as those four Impressing together earlier. She waited, amused, for them to choose their human, and to see what would hatch next.
The greener of the two chubby, charismatic Greens had jumped back on the bed and squawked urgently at her sister, urging her back up. She'd been struck by the most wonderful idea for a skit, and her sister had to come join her! The teal-nosed Green jumped back up on the bed, causing the greener of the two to chirp cheerfully, but the other grabbed her sister's tail in her mouth and began to drag her off of the bed. She, at least, was getting hungry, and wanted to go ahead and bond before putting on another performance. The greener Green shrieked in anger, clawing at the furs, but she was just being dramatic and was pretending to protest more than she actually was. She, too, was beginning to be bothered by these most inconvenient feelings of hunger. They kept her from doing her best acting! When her sister let go of her tail to hop off of the bed and scurry towards Hers, the more dramatic one of the two stood on her hind legs and put the back of her forepaw on her head in a comically ever-suffering gesture before following her sister.
It didn't take them long to reach their person. It had been decided a long time ago, but they just had to show off what an amazing pair of firelizards they were so Theirs would love them! Of course, neither had really thought of the fact that they had picked the person who would be least happy to have impressed a pair of the most flamboyant firelizards that had appeared in this clutch so far. The greener of the two didn't hesitate before leaping to Engrye's pants and scurrying her way to her shoulder to chatter excitedly in the redhead's ear, while the yellower of the two paused for a second to Impress properly before scrambling up after her sister. They shared a shoulder and nuzzled at her cheek affectionately, both of them making overly loud, loving croons. They wanted everyone to know how much they loved Theirs!
While the two Greens crooned over Engrye and started to demand food, several more eggs cracked open. A White was the first to muscle his way out of his egg. 'Muscle' was the ideal verb to use for the situation because, quite frankly, the tiny creature has the heavy muscling to rival many whers. He held himself proudly when he emerged, standing on his hind legs for a moment to get a better look at the remaining unclaimed people around him. He would not stoop to the level of N'tal's, Engrye's, Tylar's, Sol's, and the other firelizards that had Impressed to a person that already had a flitter. No! He would be His's only firelizard. The firelizard stood up once more, calmly surveying them again. There. He knew who His was.
Just as the White was moving off to Impress, three more eggs broke open, one after another. The first was a Pink, then another Bronze (whose arrival was greeted with a smug little rumble from Shanza-- two Kings in one clutch was nothing to sneeze at!), and, then, a Brown. Only four eggs remained unhatched, but all of them were wriggling with various levels of enthusiasm. It seemed that there wouldn't be any dud eggs in this clutch. The Pink shook the egg goo off of her wings, and, in the process, noticed the two big males behind her. She looked carefully at them for a moment, then turned her head. No... not them. The Bronze gave her an adorably confused chirp, while the Brown stared off into space, looking almost bored. The Pink chirped reassuringly in return before catching glimpse of N'tal-- and the Blue firelizard on his shoulder. Her whole body seemed to relax for a second, almost as if she was a few minutes from sinking into a puddle on the furs, but then she shot upwards again, half-frantic. She dashed over to another one of the eggs and began to claw at it, willing for it to break open.
Meanwhile, the White strode over to the edge of the bed and sat primly on his haunches. He wasn't going to go to His. He wasn't going to dirty his paws on the floor and weave among all of the people like a common feline! Instead, he grabbed His's mind with his and pulled it towards him, locking eyes with D'lios and making Impression before demanding that the Weyrling and Lord Holder come over here and pick him up and feed him! The Bronze began to sniff curiously at the Brown, but neither seemed particularly eager to Impress just yet. Green (66CD00), bonded to EngryePersonality:Charismatic is the best word to describe this Green. ‘Shy’ is not part of her vocabulary; she acts the same towards her clutchsister and Hers as she does toward a dragon she’s never met before. This is probably because she simply adores an audience; anyone will do, in any number, from one to the entire Weyr. And, again, it does not matter to her one iota if she knows any of them or not. This Green is a born performer, with highly expressive body language and a knack for telling stories even without words (though she won’t hesitate from sending images to even perfect strangers to get her point across if she needs to!). She’s always exuberant and energetic, bordering on hyperactive, and never seems to run out of steam, much to Hers’s chagrin. She’s quite the ditz, often bumping into things and flailing about, completely oblivious to a situation around her. She has no concept of subtlety or sarcasm, and Hers or her more intelligent sister will often have to spell things out so she can understand what’s going on. What do you mean, a weyrfull of people lost in flightlust isn’t a good place to act out a story? The Wingleader’s only giving a little speech, surely now is a perfect time to chatter wildly and flap around like she’s possessed! She can be more than a little distracting. However, she does have an unusually good memory for a firelizard, and if something that would make a good story later happens at the Weyr, whether it be simply hilarious or extremely embarrassing, you can bet she’ll remember it and reenact it for all of prosperity. Appearance:With how hyperactive she is, one would expect her to be a trim, shapely little firelizard, but she’s far from it. She tells her stories for food, and as she tells quite a lot of stories, she receives (or steals) quite a lot of food. She’s incredibly fat, to the extent where it doesn’t look like she should be able to fly. However, for her rotundness, she’s actually very cute, with her delicate head and bright, very expressive eyes. She’s distinguishable from her clutchsister only by the slight variation in her hide; hers is slightly more green than her sister’s. Her hide is unmarred by any speckles or spots, but she’ll probably end up collecting her fair share of scars over the years. Green (66CD00), bonded to EngryePersonality:While rather mellower than her sister when she’s by herself, these inseparable firelizards are almost always together, and this Green tends to feed off of the other’s excitement and energy. While not quite the born performer her sister is, she nevertheless enjoys reenacting stories with her sister, always as enthusiastic about it as the other is and just as good at getting her point across. However, she does not seek out audiences; in fact, she gets a bit grumpy if she’s not allowed a few candlemarks of peaceful naptime ever now and then. There is also no doubting that this firelizard has the brains of the two. She doesn’t have her sister’s long memory for stories and anecdotes, but she does have heaps of common sense. She’ll often have to come to her sister’s rescue when she decides to begin acting out a particularly embarrassing story about the Weyrleader while he’s trying to address the Weyr or something, and it is usually her that manages to gently, subtly lead her to the most appropriate places for them to do their acting. She’s also the more easily trained of the two, and her bonded will definitely want to trust her over her sister to fetch things. Appearance:She’s almost a mirror image of her sister: very fat, but adorable with her refined head and big, bright eyes. The only difference between them is that her hide, while bright and unmistakably green, is a tinge more ‘yellow,’ and less greenish, but it takes a sharp pair of eyes to see the difference unless they’re standing next to each other. However, she does have a blob of teal on her nose while her sister’s hide is consistently green all over, which mercifully allows most people to tell the difference between them. White- (FFFFFF) bonded to D’liosPersonality:Without a doubt, this firelizard is the smartest of the entire clutch, possibly the smartest in the Weyr. He, for this is definitely a male White, has an incredibly long memory for a firelizard, rivaling that of a young human child. He doesn’t forget people’s faces and easily remembers distinct personality traits. Worse than his intelligence is his cunning; if there is something that he wants, be it as simple as a particularly delectable bit of food or something shiny that belongs to someone else, he’ll find a way to get it, and he always manages to do it in such a way that no one can every fully lay the blame on him, though many would suspect him of the deed. Sometimes, not even His will be able to every really know for certain of his misdeeds. Needless to say, he’s not the most ethical creature around, and while he knows full well the difference between right and wrong, he decides just to ignore those parameters. He’s also quite finicky. He’s not pleased by what would satisfy almost every other flitter, and he continually searches for only the best things in life. He won’t stoop to eat such things like raw scraps of herdbeast, and only pecks at finely seasoned meat stew. He only sleeps on the softest furs, snuggles with His when His is wearing only the finest cloth (for he can be affectionate because he is fully aware of the fact that His provides for him), etc. If something is to his distaste, he is at least quiet about it, politely turning up his nose instead of making a ruckus. He’s actually quite the snob. Appearance:His hide is on first glance perfectly white, but upon closer inspection, the white is impeccably mixed with the palest blues, grays, and greens. He keeps himself obsessively clean, which is a good thing, since a hide the color of his shows the slightest stains and spots. He’s on the big side for a White, which really isn’t very big at all, but he’s not the prettiest of firelizards. He has a massive, Roman-nosed head on a thickly muscled neck and body that would look more fitting on a wher than a firelizard.
The rambunctious pair of greens had finally settled on a human; and, apparently, they wanted everyone to know it. Tesla watched, amused, as they crooned and fawned over a young girl she didn't recognize; a Candidate, perhaps? She grinned, and turned her attention back to the bed, where a white, brown, pink and bronze were crawling out of their respective shells. Shanza seemed quite pleased with herself, and rightly so! Two kings in a clutch was nothing to scoff at.
However, it appeared that the white had the more kingly personality, strutting about as if he owned the place. He was a muscular little thing, too - quite odd for one of his color. And he appeared to know just who he wanted right off the bat; Tesla was hardly surprised, truth be told, when he waltzed right over D'lios and Impressed. She wasn't over fond of the lord holder, but then she didn't know him well at all despite being his fellow weyrling. Still, it was always the dragon's choice; and, in this case, the firelizard's choice.
The brown and bronze seemed to be hanging back; the bronze was quite endearing, though the brown seemed almost listless. They didn't seem all that motivated to Impress, but she supposed they had time, still. The pink, however, was rather stranger - she ran right over to a yet-unhatched egg and started clawing at it! Eyebrows raised, she considered interfering for a moment - after all, couldn't the little pink do some damage? But Shanza didn't seem concerned, and she'd know best, after all. So Tesla merely rocked back on her heels and waited.
The Greens really were quite cute, now that Engrye got a good look at them. Bothersome, annoying and loud, but cute. They were rather pudgey, though, and almost an exact copy of each other. Definitely not for her, as she did enjoy her silence, but... they were cute. Engrye still held out her meat for them while watching their show curiously, they did like to perform. Oh, one of the Greens was... gesturing for her sister to follow? That was kind of... interesting. They were like twins, and it looked like they were going to Impress to the same person-
Engrye's own thought was immediately distracted as one of the firelizards jumped into her sharding pants and then proceeded to climb up her shoulder. The red-haired girl was immediately sent waves and waves of hunger and excitement and hunger and love and... jeez, this thing was energetic! The other Green followed suit, though she actually paused to Impress first before climbing up to the girl's other shoulder, which offered Engrye a moment of relief that they weren't both er, challenged and hyper. Well, scratch that, the other Green certainly seemed rather hyper in herself. The extremely loud affection of both Greens embarrassed the poor girl, and she immediately started flailing around and shushing the firelizards to try and get them to be quiet, but that only excited them further. Feeding them made them quiet down though, if only for a bit.
Now that she'd Impressed, Engrye backed off a bit and gave the others a bit more room, moving somewhere else to tend to the firelizards. And shards, what a handful they were going to be! But they were pretty cute, she had to admit. It took some coaxing to get them off her shoulders and into her lap so she could properly feed them, and once there, what appeared to be the more challenged of the two began to spin and twirl when she was sufficiently full, dragging her sister into her little show, and the other Green was more than happy to join in.
It was hard for Engrye to resist a small smile at the two, her mouth twitching into a very, very small smile. "Hmm... Twee," she named the more energetic of the two, and then thought for a moment, "Dee," she decided for the other, more intelligent. It seemed perfect, for some reason. The two Greens took no notice of their names and continued spinning, though Engrye could feel it somehow connect in their minds. Impression was odd. But as she watched the two, Engrye sighed again. Shards. Well, at least Kalith's Hatching wasn't going to be for a while, so she'd have some time to get used to them before having to take care of a dragon too. Hey, at least attempting to train them was going to give her something to do, right? Right.....
You'll see, Hold on, To what you, Been given lately.
P'nay watched the entertaining greens as they continued their antics, but then they went and Impressed to some candidate who didn't even look like she would enjoy how wondrous they were. He sighed, beginning to feel truly cross, not even jokingly so like before or disappointed. He had found that pair quite fetching. However, Annith made it hard to be cross. She was there, and he couldn't forget that he was amazingly lucky, lame as he was, to have even her. Thus, his emotions were fleeting and he was quick to perk up and pay attention to what was happening. He felt a flash of sympathy for W'al, who had never stopped paying attention and was still alone. Of course, the easygoing and good humored purplerider still looked to be in good spirits about the entire thing, no doubt enjoying some comments from fun Kerath.
Anyway, more eggs were hatching. At first, it was just a white, who looked to commandingly Impress D'lios, which made him frown just for a second before grinning again and W'al snort. Three more eggs, however, had hatched, so there was plenty with which he could distracted himself. A pink, a bronze, and a brown! The hatching certainly wasn't disappointing. Two bronzes for a clutch under twenty-five was quite Impressive. There usually weren't more than two or three Kings for any clutch! He gave Shanza a smile. The bronze seemed a nice fellow too, though the pink captured his interest. What was she doing? He watched her shift all about, and then attack one of the remaining eggs in a frenzy. He blinked, perplexed. That wasn't normal behavior, and she seemed so desperate. Was the egg in danger? Shanza seemed unworried.
At some point, P'nay remembered that he'd been trying to guess the remaining eggs, and returned to it. He couldn't remember what he had thought before, so he started anew, half watching the desperate pink and half thinking about the four eggs. There definitely wasn't another bronze, and there weren't any Queens. Maybe an orange. There hadn't been any of those. One bronze, one brown, and two bronzes, so maybe an orange? There had been all those greens, and not many pinks, so maybe another pink, or two? But there had only been one black, so maybe a black, but there hadn't been that many blues. P'nay predicted another pink for almost sure, and left it at that after a while. He mainly watched the pink already in front of him, staring at her. Why did she want that particular egg so bad? It was very interesting and fascinating.
Hold on, To what you, Know you got, Hold on.
Finally, the frantic little Pink managed to get some traction on the eggshell and pull it open, either that or the firelizard inside had finally decided to hatch. Either way, the egg fell apart, revealing another Pink. They were, at least, quite distinct in appearances and coloration, with the Pink that had pulled apart the egg being a deep, rosy Pink with a stocky, voluptuous build, and the Pink that had just fallen out of the egg being a pinkish lavender shade and quite slender. The lighter Pink squealed in delight at hatching and reached forward to sniff her sister experimentally, cooing happily. Her sister crooned in return before flapping one still-wet wing, gesturing towards the back of the weyr.
However, they had only made it a few steps before another egg began to crack. The lighter Pink's attention immediately went to the egg, and she dashed over to it. However, when it failed to reveal the firelizard inside of it after a few seconds, she wandered off, bored. Her sister trotted back over to her with a concerned croon, and when that was ignored, a more urgent chirp. That finally caught the lighter Pink's attention, and she scampered over to catch up to her sister. Now that she had her clutchsister by her side, almost all of the rosy Pink's earlier franticness was gone, and she was now her calm, businesslike herself, which was such an odd attitude for a Pink, really!
However, the lighter Pink only made it a few more steps before she was dying of hunger and absolutely had to go find her bonded, like, right now. Instantly she was off to go find Hers, and what could her sister do but sigh and follow? She was getting fairly hungry herself. As they trudged off, the egg that had been cracking finally split open quietly, revealing a little Black. His eyes widened in fright to see so many people gathered around him, but he quickly composed himself and scurried to hide behind his big Brown and Bronze brothers. They were large and made very useful shields!
Meanwhile, the second-to-last egg began to crack, and the very last one was wriggling fiercely. The Hatching wouldn't last too much longer. However, there were still Impressions to be made! Speaking of that, the lighter colored Pink was getting distracted again. She seemed to have decided that filling her stomach actually could wait until after she went to go see the newest hatchling! Her sister didn't notice her absence until she had walked right up to the edge of the bed and launched herself at Teslana, landing quite neatly on her shoulder before noticing that her sister had failed to keep her attention on this very important task.
She gave an apologetic little croon to Tesla before hopping off of her shoulder and giving a loud yelp that almost could have been a bark at her lightly-colored sister. The paler Pink jumped before scampering over and hastily bonding to Teslana before jumping onto her arm and squeaking hungrily, diving unabashedly into Tesla's hand and gobbling down the meat she could access. The rosy Pink didn't do any such thing; in fact, she seemed rather distant. Instead of looking at Hers and begging for food, she was looking... towards the exit? No, wait, it wasn't the exit she was looking at! It was N'tal's Blue firelizard! Quiet feelings of happiness radiated from her. After a long moment, she finally hopped down to join her sister trying to pry bits of meat out of Tesla's hands.
While the Bronze, Brown, and Black sat like lumps in the middle of the furs, content to simply watch their siblings Impress, one of the final eggs hatched, revealing... another Pink. Unlike the other three, she gave a wild shriek of excitement before bouncing (quite literally bouncing) to the edge of the bed and leaping at R'ori. He had a whole bowl of meat for her! And he would love her! She butted his ear lightly with her nose before crooning happily, quite delighted with her choice even though, after this whole shindig, R'ori could not be happy to be walking away with another firelizard. Pink (EE82EE), bonded to Teslana Personality:This firelizard is a little all over the place, to be brutally honest. She absolutely cannot focus on one thing for more than a few seconds before getting distracted by something else. This trait of hers is rather cute and amusing at first, but quickly becomes a pain when one second, she wants to be fed, then just as she’s beginning to be fed, changes her mind and decides she wants a bath instead. She’s quite a ditz and simply fails to remember what she’s doing. But, then again, if it had been that interesting or important in the first place, she would have bothered to remember! However, she’s always chipper and cheerful, but, then again, if anyone’s memory was that bad, they would be happy all of the time, too! She’s also quite the flirt, and easily distracted as she is, she can’t keep her attention on one male for more than a day or two, maximum, before moving on. She’s not very fond of commitment to anything, (except to Hers, naturally, but she can’t even be trusted to be around when Hers needs her to) and that includes males. It would truly take a special firelizard to win her heart, but as that’s unlikely to happen, she’s quite content to flirt around. However, she does not have some irrepressible need for the males, but if there’s one around, she will certainly go make herself sociable. Appearance:She’s certainly a pretty enough Pink. She’s finely shaped, with a very long, slender body with equally long and thin wings. With her sinuous form and refined head, she could almost be called a beauty, but she doesn’t have the patience or attention span to simply sit and preen like many females. Her hide, while still obviously pink, has undertones of lavender to it, giving her a slight purple hue. However, her shoulders and hips fade to a much lighter, pinker shade of the hue, making them look bigger than they actually are. Pink (CD3278), bonded to TeslanaPersonality:This Pink is a rather subdued, businesslike firelizard, a personality that would seem more fitting on a Brown than a Pink. She’s serious about most everything, at least outwardly, because make no mistake, she still enjoys life. She’s just not as exuberant about it as many firelizards. Instead, she has fun in her own quiet, unobtrusive way, whether that’s just spending a moment playing with her clutchsister or Hers, or simply watching the antics of others. However, she’s not good in a crisis, or any stressful situation, actually. She will absolutely lose her head and just cling to whoever is closest to her at the moment. It’s rather funny since that’s the complete opposite of what most would expect from her. She’s unwaveringly loyal, to Hers, her sister, and of course, the love of her life. She always remains steadfast in her affections, and she’ll do anything she can to try and make those close to her as happy as possible. She would never do anything to hurt anyone, and she honestly does try to be a protector of sorts, though when the situation’s dire enough that anyone actually needs protection, she’s useless. Likewise, the one male she’ll ever pay any bit of attention to (flirting wise) is the Four Seasons Blue. She’s almost a bit obsessed with him, actually, and to get close to him is the only reason she’ll leave Hers’s side. Appearance:Although she’s very close to her clutchsister, she doesn’t resemble her other than being the same color. Instead of a light, almost lavender, her hide is a very deep, rich pink that is unmistakably pink. She has broad shoulders and hips, with Pink (C12267), bonded to R’ori (courtesy of Kyril)Personality:True to her color, this girl is bouncy! Always up for a game, she's a ray of sunshine that sometimes might shine just a bit too bright. She's always going and always on the move, ready for anything and everything that life tosses her way. She can be a bit overbearing - but then, anyone who can't handle her doesn't deserve to. She enjoys picking on her human, though never in a mean-spirited way. Nevertheless, she'll be apt to play mostly-harmless jokes on Hers at any opportunity, more than willing to have a little fun at his expense. Also, whenever she gets a whiff of blossoming romance in the weyr, she can turn into quite the little match-maker. Appearance:This girl is quite big for a pink, but fairly well proportioned. She moves gracefully enough in the air, though she's built for stamina more than speed; a bit compact and stocky, she'll be able to hold her own in any future spats she may get into. Her hide is predominantly a gentle, pretty shade of maroon, marred only by a few darker stripes along her back legs and tail. It isn't a bright or blinding shade, by any means, and is quite pleasant to behold.
R'ori was still watching the Hatching with one eye opening. He wasn't very interested in it. When he first Impressed Phareon, he'd really liked firelizards, even if the Bronze was sharding annoying. But after this he wasn't sure he liked them as much anymore. Of course he was going to forgive Phareon eventually, and the Bronze was going to nap in his hair again, but for now he was just pissed off. Sharding Copper hatching her eggs in his bed! Those shells were never going to come out! He crossed his arms and frowned, but continued watching the Hatching for nothing more than because he wanted to see just how many shells he was going to have to clean off his bed.
He'd been spacing out when he was abruptly brought back to earth by a little firelizard smashing into him. Startled, R'ori was glad he'd been leaning against the wall, because otherwise he probably would have fallen over. He could hear Vediameth's light laughter in his mind. Why isn't she going away?! He yelled at the dragon in his mind, ignoring the firelizard that had decided to climb up onto his shoulder. Theres no way I impressed her! Well, you did. Now feed her, the little dear is hungry, Vediameth attempted to sound strict, but there was no hiding the amusement in her voice. But I didn't Impress her! I didn't even have my eyes open! Yes you did. No! They were closed. She can't have Impressed me! But you were watching the Hatching. You can't prove that. Instead of responding to this, Vediameth merely looked away from him, distracting her own mind with something else. Vediameth was right, and R'ori knew he was beat. The hyper Pink had Impressed to her. Phareon noticed this addition and turned his attention away from crooning at his children and over to R'ori. He chirped proudly to his daughter and R'ori, seeming very excited that His had Impressed. Now they could all have fun together! R'ori ignored the Bronze, still angry at him for bringing all this on to the black-haired boy. He sighed, looking at the firelizard that had begun to crawl down his arm towards the food, and he was rather happy that her claws weren't sharp enough to cut through his sleeves. He finally gave in and pulled out a piece of meat from the bowl he held in one hand (a rather difficult feat, really) and fed a few pieces to the Pink until she was happy. Seeing that His had successfully fed the firelizard and apparently grudgingly accepted her, Vediameth finally turned her attention back to them. What are you going to name her? she asked. I don't know... he sounded tired, Asmo. We'll call her Asmo, he finally decided on a name that he felt suited the hyper little Pink. Asmo chirped excitedly in response and happily crawled up his arm to his shoulder, seeming rather happy to be sitting there. Shards... he should have just stayed out of his Weyr all together! But when he finally cheered up, he'd probably be glad he Impressed her. Maybe. Probably. ... not really.[/blockquote]
Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring banana phone, Ding dong ding dong ding dong ding donana phone, It grows in bunches, I've got my hunches, It's the best! Beats the rest!
A black hatched, but he went off to hide with his two bigger brothers, the silly creature! The boys seemed to be letting the girls have the field, and that thought amused P'nay. How chivalrous of them! Of course, the brown looked mainly bored, not as if he had even the slightest bit of interest in his siblings. The black looked to be shy, common enough for blacks. The bronze looked like he really could be chivalrous, sweet in nature. They were quite the trio, and they did sort of look like a trio, all sitting together, all not minding each other, all finding each other useful. It was a sweet picture, the three of them. If only he cared more about that sweetness. Whiny child that he was at times, he wanted a firelizard!
The two pinks, the silly one that had hatched the other, found who they wanted, one of the newer weyrlings. W'al gave Teslana a smile. Even though he wasn't getting any of the flitters from how things were going, just ending up standing there with a fistful of meat, he enjoyed seeing some of his weyrlings get them. Well, he enjoyed seeing Teslana get the two pinks. The thought of N'tal and D'lios with four of them and one intelligent white mildly terrified him. They were enough trouble as they were, even if he and Kerath were dealing with them. However, Kerath seemed to find all of their Impressions amusing. I don't think D'lios will be very good at handling a flitter; he said innocently. W'al grinned.
P'nay clapped for the weyrling, and then for the older weyrling who got the latest, probably final, pink that had hatched. Now there was just the bronze, the brown, and one egg. Four people could be getting flitters still, plenty for both he and W'al, but, then again, someone could end up with two of them, three of them, and then wasn't going to be so many. Still, there weren't that many people left except for the two of them, the two lonely full riders in a sea of candidates and weyrlings. He was going to hit the bit dragon in the sky who determined who flitters decided to demand food from if he ever got the chance. He disliked all of the worrisome anticipation. It was stressful. He felt like a dragon candidate again!
One egg. Just one egg left, and three little flitters on the bed. It couldn't be another pink. What could it be? Another black. It could be another black. Maybe another brown or purple? Maybe another blue? What did it matter! He stared intently at the egg, with a few glances towards the bronze and his friends. He wanted it to hatch. The hatching was almost over, but it seemed like it was stretching out even more. Around dragons, time seemed a fluid thing, malleable and changeable. Everyone knew a dragon could do a lot of thing, even if most didn't know truth from fact. He simply knew that moment, that last moment of Shanza's eggs hatching, felt like it lasted for all of eternity.
Don't need quarters, don't need dimes, To call a friend of mine! Don't need computer or TV, To have a real good time!
A rosy, pretty little pink threw herself at Tesla with a surprising grace for one so young, and in no time was up on her shoulder and happily Impressed. Grinning, absolutely thrilled that she had indeed been chosen, the girl reached up a hand to pet her new firelizard, but didn't get the chance - with a chirp that sounded distinctly like an apology, she was back on the bed and scolding her apparently easily-distracted sister.
And then she was being bombarded by two pinks, and she chuckled indulgently as each claimed a shoulder. She dimly heard Irath's scandalized squeal, and a petulant No!, but she stubbornly ignored her dismayed green, and instead focused on getting both of the new additions to her little family fed. The lighter, more easily distracted pink, dove right into her handful of food almost before Tesla had a chance to bring it up to shoulder level. The more tame of the two (and, privately, the one Tesla was beginning to have more a a soft spot for already) seemed distracted, though, and despite her appetite was ignoring the meal being offered her. Looking up from where the lighter was happily munching, and thankfully not taking a bite out of any fingers by mistake, she followed the rosier 'lizard's line of sight.
Was she looking at the door? No... that was N'tal. Oh, dear. One of his firelizards had caught her attention for some reason, perhaps? Her own pink looked almost smitten. Well, she'd have to do her best to keep her away from that blue rider. She couldn't imagine he'd appreciate a fifth firelizard hanging around (she could sense Irath snickering, here), and that boy would probably do something mean to her little pink. And how was she going to keep Irath from attacking him, then? After a moment, though, the rosy girl joined her sister in eating her fill, and Tesla gladly returned her attention to them. They'd need names!
Care to help me name them, dear? No! Irath had not deigned to join her and greet their new friends; that was quite all right. Tesla didn't mind her sulking and seeking sympathy from Gulath - at least she got along with somebody. As she watched her little 'lizards clean her hands of meat, she took a moment to ponder. She wanted something... something that sparked the imagination, she supposed. Something interesting, that brought to mind the world and its various facets and wonders. Something simple, but something that would affirm that they were indeed hers, and she was happy to have them.
"Arc." She declared aloud, nudging the lighter and hyper-active one. "And... Coil." Another nudge, this one for her rosy, steadfast 'lizard. She would think of lightning storms and static electricity whenever she called their names. How wonderful!
They both, upon finishing their meals, chirruped and intimated that they found their new names acceptable, before lugging themselves up to Tesla's shoulders and wrapping their tails around her neck in a warm, if somewhat suffocating necklace. Grinning, almightily pleased with herself, she cast a smug glance in Irath's direction - that Sharding green was making her just a bit devilish!
Arc and Coil. How about that, love? Lovely. She sneered back, lashing her tail and baring her teeth at the little pink vermin that were all over her human. Tesla giggled, pleased in spite of herself at her dragon's use of sarcasm - that green was smarter than she tended to give her credit for.
N`tal was still trying to figure out how to walk with four Fire Lizards draping all over him. Ian had secured his place on N`tal`s right shoulder, refusing to give his spot up to none of his siblings. Onal had also taken his spot on N`tal`s left shoulder, but sensing his Mine`s decision about putting them on Gulath`s back made him grip onto N`tal`s shoulder tightly. N`tal winced as the claws dug into his skin, and decided in the end to have Ri and Asu ride on Gulath`s back. That was, if N`tal could make it over to Gulath without dropping them.
Gulath, on the other hand, was glad to see Irath`s Mine finally Impress to two little Pinks of her own. His eyes whirled in greens, despite Irath`s obvious displeasure toward the little creatures. See! Your Mine did Impress to a Fire Lizard. And to two of them as well. Your Mine and my Mine will have fun trying to keep them under control, he said. He then sensed Irath`s discomfort more and crooned to the Green, trying to reassure her that it would be okay. After all, if she wanted, she could probably boss them into cleaning her down at the Weyr Lake.
But, there was something about one of the Pinks that was staring off. Gulath followed the Pink`s gaze and saw that it was on... his Mine! Wait, not N`tal. It was Onal that she was staring at. The little Pink seemed to be obsessed with the lazy Blue. Gulath almost chuckled. Look, Irath! One of the Pinks likes Mine`s Blue, he said, pointing it out. He looked over at N`tal, just as the Weyrling was making his final steps toward Gulath, and chuckled again. Mine, one of Irath`s Mine`s Pinks likes your Blue. That is funny! the Blue replied as N`tal placed Ri gently on his back where she would not fall off.
N`tal looked over at Tesla as she held the two Pinks to her. He blinked and stared for a moment before turning his attention to Gulath. "Really, now? I doubt Onal will even Chase females. The Blue is so lazy," N`tal replied.
You would be surprised. Fire Lizards are like us dragons. When given a good reason, they can rise up and do whatever they want. I am sure once Onal is fully awake, that Pink will make him look twice, Gulath responded.
N`tal shrugged as he tried to pull Asu out of his pocket. The little Pink was trying to hang onto the end of the pocket, not wanting to leave the comfort and warmth of where she had tried to fall asleep in. She squeeled when N`tal tugged harder at her for her to get out of his pocket. The scream cause N`tal to let the Pink go and cover his ears. Now that he was no longer tugging at her, Asu crawled back into his jacket pocket and resumed her curled up position. N`tal pulled his hands away from his ears and looked at the Pink confusingly. That Pink was disturbing. Very disturbing, and it unsettled him. Rather than trying to pull the Pink out of his pocket again, he let her stay. "Fine, you crazy things. You can pile on top of me when we get back to the room," he muttered.
Gulath looked at N`tal. N`tal had actually said something sort of nice. Maybe the Fire Lizards would be a good thing for him. Maybe caring for them and the Blue would help him to relax and settle into the Weyr life. Gulath almost said something before N`tal shot him a look. "Do not say a word. Come on. We are leaving. I need a nap, they need a nap, and you need a nap before we start with your special training I have in mind. I am going to keep you in shape so when the time comes, we can get out of here," he said. He turned to look at Tesla, knowing the girl would probably say something and notice them leaving. "Tesla," he said, nodding his head before heading out of R`iori`s weyr. That was the closest thing to a polite way of saying goodbye that he could muster up at the moment.
It was just the Bronze, the Brown, the Black, and one unhatched, furiously wriggling egg left. The Black made an uncomfortable little squawk and began to sidle off towards the people, but the Bronze gently, firmly called him back, and the Black meekly slithered back towards him. All the people were making him nervous! Neither of the other two seemed fazed, though. There really weren't all that many people watching them anymore, as almost all of them had bonded to firelizards, and many had left the weyr by now. Shanza was impatient for this to be done, and she chirped at them as she had at a dozen of her babies before this, but it had the exact same effect as it had before: none at all.
Finally, the last egg broke open to reveal a Blue. He downright marched out of his shell with none of the hatchling awkwardness, holding himself quite proud and tall. He bugled at the other three, who, after giving him a curious glance, straightened too. He stood in front of them on his hind legs almost like a drill sergeant before dropping down onto all fours again and stepping over to join them. He squawked and jabbed until they were arranged in a line facing the few remaining people, the Brown, then the Blue, the Black, and finally the Bronze at the end. Apparently, this clutch had more than one set of performers, because the next thing that happened was rather unexpected.
The Blue began to sing. Well, he wasn't really singing, since he just floated out one short, pure note before stopping. There was a moment of silence before the Bronze hesitatingly repeated the note, squeaking slight, and, finding the range uncomfortable, let it fall a fifth. The Brown was the next to pick the note up, a full octave below the Blue. His note wavered, but with a glare from the Blue, he corrected himself. The bossy Blue firelizard had to jab the Black with his tail before the Black joined in with the other two, his voice quite high-pitched compared to the other two.
Then, the Blue joined in, completing the chord. He stepped forward slightly. While the others were sitting comfortably on their haunches, he stretched up, pulling more air into his lungs and singing out. His voice was pure and penetrating, the tone that seemed to go right to one's heart. It was uplifting. It didn't seem to match the bossiness and crankiness he had just shown. His note changed slightly, weaving up and down, slipping between the others' skillfully, beautifully. It was a simple song, as complex things were beyond these baby firelizards, but it was striking, as enchanting as anything. It was hard to say which group was more talented: the acting duo or the singing quartet.
And as the foursome sang, a lone figure slipped almost unnoticed into the back of R'ori's weyr. It was B'nyur. He was smiling. It had been a long, long time since he'd smiled. He touched Shanza's mind lightly, settling against the wall. It would be a long time until the ghost of the past few months fully left him, but, for now, he was happy. But that wasn't important. The Hatching was important. It was ending, but B'nyur didn't dare get any closer; the last thing he wanted was to accidentally Impress any more firelizards. One was plenty.
The Blue climbed to a final, climatic note, the other three joining him at the top of their range. And, with the final chord, the small concert was over. The Blue spread his wings and dipped his head in a bow, a move that was hastily mimicked by the others. Then, without further ado, they hopped off of the bed, leaving it empty except for hundreds of pieces of eggshell, and scampered over to P'nay. He'd been waiting a long time for them to bond to him, but no matter! He had the firelizards he wanted now. They screeched noisily at his feet for a moment before the Blue launched himself at P'nay's trousers and scampered up, settling on his head, the Bronze and the Brown hot on his tail, settling on a shoulder apiece. The shier Black hesitated before joining them, clutching awkwardly to the front of P'nay's shirt.
And with that, the Hatching was over. Shanza bugled happily and rubbed her head affectionately against Phareon's before pushing off of the bedpost and leaving the weyr unapologetically, not even bothering to take a few pieces of eggshell with her. Nope, she was content to leave R'ori with the mess. Poor boy. Blue (0000EE), bonded to P'nayPersonality:Although there is both a Brown and a Bronze in this group, it is quite obviously this firelizard who is the leader. He doesn’t let his low color prevent him from chirping out orders and protesting wildly if any other does the smallest thing wrong, and, surprisingly, the others generally follow his lead. However, while his posse might be happy enough to do what he says, few other firelizards will obey him, nor will the humans, dragons, and whers he often tries to order around. This infuriates him, and will usually result in him flapping around crazily, squawking angrily and trying to inflict physical harm on the rebels. He can get rather annoying rather quickly. Nevertheless, any annoyance one feels in this Blue vanishes instantly when he (frequently) begins to sing, with or without his three clutchbrothers. He has an absolutely gorgeous tenor voice, with the quality of tone that seems to penetrate one’s heart and uplift one’s soul. In addition, he has a near flawless ear for pitch, and never allows anyone to sing out of tune. He always sings a melody among his brothers, and ensures that their harmonizing notes are always perfectly tuned. He is completely aware of his talent, and flaunts it often. He feels that he should always receive special treatment because of this, and he’s quite the egotistical flitter. Appearance:He’s a pretty shade of medium blue with few variations other than a lighter blue patch on his chest. His chest and ribcage are large, allowing him to pull in bigger breaths and sing more loudly than most firelizards, but the rest of his body is trim and slender. His limbs, neck, and tail are long and thin, giving him an almost feminine appearance. His head also has this same delicate appearance, making him—there’s no other word for it—pretty. Naturally, this doesn’t help him with his whole Blue-flitter-who’s-boss-of-the-world self-image he has going on. His posture is impeccable, and he usually claims the spot on His’s head or on some other high perch. Bronze (9C661F), bonded to P'nayPersonality:This Bronze is surprisingly… non-Bronzey. He is not a King; rather, he acts like some young Prince who has too many older brothers to ever ascend to the throne himself. While he will not hesitate to take charge when he has to, generally he is just as willing to hand the lead over to his smaller Blue brother. All in all, he’s the most friendly and affable of the quartet, working well with the others and avoiding stepping on toes. However, being on his best behavior and submitting to others’ commands so often, especially the Blue’s, seems to rub him the wrong way once in a while, and he’ll between off somewhere to sulk for a day or two that no one respects him as his metallic hide dictates. These phases do not last long, and he’ll return as amiable as ever. He rarely sings for the sake of singing, but when his clutchbrothers begin to sing, who would he be to fail to complete the chord? He has a warm baritone voice, pleasant without sticking out as anything special. The only times he’ll ever sing outside of their group is when serenading a female, especially a Queen, in Flight. While he will Chase fairly often, he can rarely pluck up the courage to spend time with females outside of Flights. He is more comfortable among the boys, and is most often seen with either His or his clutchbrothers. He’s loyal and stays steadfastly by the side of them, rarely venturing off along unless it’s to sulk. Appearance:He’s large, as Bronzes go. His neck, forelegs, and shoulders are stout and thickly muscled, covered in a brighter shade of bronze that’s close to copper, but his haunches and tail are thin and slender, colored a darker, greener bronze, which gives him an oddly proportioned appearance. His weaker hind legs means he’s always a bit slower to get into the air, but his stronger front end and powerful wings give him unnatural carrying strength for a firelizard. This, combined with his tractable nature, makes him easily trainable and able to carry heavier parcels for His. His favorite perch is His’s right shoulder. Brown (5C3317), bonded to P'nayPersonality:This Brown is a typical Brown, mellow as can be. He’s not lazy by any means, but he’s deliberate about what he does, and is not one to waste unnecessary energy. However, he does prefer to watch activity or other firelizards playing from the sidelines instead of joining in the action himself. He’s quietly observant, and more alert that one would think of a firelizard of his energy level, and he has a long memory. But, while he’s intelligent like many Browns, he’s not manipulative or cunning, and tends not to make much from whatever he learns by watching. He just doesn’t miss much, and tends to be extremely aware of the actions, thoughts, and motives of those around him. As is usual for his color, he’s not ruffled by much, and he’s unwaveringly tolerant. He has seemingly limitless patience. He just doesn’t seem to get annoyed, ever, not even when the Blue is being his bossy self or the Bronze is sulking because he doesn’t get to be in charge. He makes for a kind confidant, as he’s a good, polite listener, and acts as the stable base for the rest of the group. His voice is a deep, mellow bass, surprisingly soft and gentle, and is the basis of the other notes in the chord, and with his good ear, his notes are seldom off pitch. He is content to only sing supporting notes, with few ambitions to ever be in the spotlight, though he’ll flaunt his soothing voice whenever someone needs a bit of cheering up or calming. Appearance:He’s a generally nondescript Brown, of average size and muscling. He’s well-made but not strikingly handsome, just the typically-acting Brown that looks like your typical Brown. All of his parts are well-proportioned, which helps to make him a skilled flier, but as he’s not a show-off, that’s not apparent unless one spends a good deal of time watching him in the air. His hide is a rich, warm chocolate color that’s consistent all over his body, with no variations unless he scars himself. His favorite spot is on His’s left shoulder, opposite the Bronze. Black (000000), bonded to P'nayPersonality:There are seemingly two sides to this firelizard. Among the quartet and His, and His’s closest friends, he’s peppy and bubbly, easily excited and noisy. Other than his Blue brother, he’s the one that sings the most frequently, and the only other one that will sing just for the sake of it. His voice is a high tenor, a full octave above the Brown’s deep bass, and while it’s clear and pretty, he has the toughest time of the group staying in tune, especially when singing solo. This means that he often has the Blue on his case about pitch, though he’s so used to this it doesn’t bother him. When he’s not singing, he’s often chattering with one of the others or His, a surprisingly talkative little mite for his color. However, whenever a stranger comes within earshot, he shuts up almost immediately and recedes into his shell, often hiding in His’s clothing or hair. He has to be persuaded, usually by the Brown, to come out to sing and perform with the other three whenever there’s any sort of audience, but he succumbs to the peer pressure more often than not. He’s terribly shy and has trouble making any friends, and he’s perfectly content with staying glued to the side of the Blue, Brown, Bronze, or His and chattering their ear off. He’s unlikely to ever chase, unless he meets a female that manages to draw him out of his figurative shell. Appearance:His color is, well, black. He has an interesting patch of light grey over one of his earknobs, looking rather like he rubbed his head on wet paint, as the light grey is marred by his black hide, making it almost streaky. He’s a small flitter, even for his color, and is less than half the length of the Brown, a good eight inches shorter than the Blue. Of the four, he looks like he should sing the high notes, with his thin, tiny frame and long neck. He’s gawky and awkwardly built, as his limbs and wings look too long for his body, but he manages to move well, both on the ground and in the air despite of this. His favorite spots are usually clutched to the front of His’s shirt or hiding in his clothing or hair, depending on the people and flitters around him.
Butterflies flit from flower to flower, Dancing their happy way, Watching these beautiful, colorful creatures, Is how I spend my day.
The final egg hatched. P'nay watched the blue stride forward with such confidence, and then stared as suddenly the quartet on the bed was singing. They were talented, and it was rather amazing. How could they do that? Their song was beautiful, too, each pitch in tune as far as he could hear. He clapped at the rousing ending, wondering who might get the charming creatures, not thinking to include himself except for a mild thought that he did still like the bronze and the brown was growing on him. Perhaps he might get one of those! Or either of the other two! The best had been save for last, for all appearances! He felt glad to have been at the hatching. His mind was happy, his mood changed for the better.
Then there were four flitters screeching at his feet. There were little bursts of emotions in his head, and he found himself with a blue on his head, a bronze and a brown on his shoulders, and a little black clinging to his shirt. They were all his. He stared at the black, who shifted awkwardly under his gaze. They were hungry. The blue commandingly chattered to him in a high voice. The bronze politely inquired in his mind of food stuff. He hurriedly fed them what he had, and found W'al pressing more into his hand. He shot the purplerider a faint look of apology, but the weyrlingmaster just grinned and was leaving, letting him care for his new friends. After they started to settle with food, he began to consider them.
"Let's see. Annith Jr.;" he decided after a moment, feeding the brown another bit of meat as he named him with grin. He was the sweetest of the bunch and didn't seem all that musical besides singing with his brothers. It only felt right to name the best of the bunch in nature after his charming dragon. None of them deserved to be named after him with his reputation, and he and the yellow dragon were going to be the quartets parents until they were grown and probably beyond them. Parents named their kids after themselves - Fajra and O'sho had Osro and such. It made sense.
What? I don't think that's the best name for him; the yellow dragon tried to interrupt politely. She had been glad that his rider had received such wonderful new friends, but was quite surprised by his first choice of name. Having no ego to her and being entirely selfless in nature, she had no interest in being immortalized and praised by having something named after her. She would happily think up another name for the brown, if her rider wished for her to take part, but she didn't see why the firelizard needed to be named after her. She was fine with being a singular, lonely Annith.
We can call him Junior for short! It's a great name; her rider said winningly. She gave in without a fight. She couldn't argue with the fact he was sincerely wanting to do it because he really did think her the sweetest and most worthy thing, and she couldn't go ruining his fun with the little joke. Feeling accomplished, giving the mellow Junior a little scratch, he turned his attention to the other three. Oh my, four flitters! That was quite a lot, but he just grinned. He couldn't go feeling sad with all the four clinging onto his body. He was simply glad that he had bonded to one at all! He was lucky!
"Now, musical terms. Let's see, what's that word? Oh, rightie! You're A Capella, or just Capella, for short. You all seem the brash sort to need nicknames;" he commended while he scratched the newly named bronze, who happily accepted the name with a faint croon. P'nay knew almost nothing of music, and wracked his brain for ideas for the musical group. They needed names. He peered at the black again. Once again, the small creature wavered under his gaze, though he was growing more steady with him, no longer afraid of the person who he and his brothers had chosen.
"You, my good black friend, can be Stage Fright. We'll call you Stage for short, because Stage sounds tough;" he told the shy little black with a grin, winning himself a slightly off-key trill from the tiny firelizard. He looked up at the blue, who still sat proudly atop his head. "We'll call you Carol Conductor, 'cause you're in charge. Plus, you can get called Carol for short with that and you look like you act like a girl when you get upset;" he explained to the blue, who seemed to like the first part and not understand the second as he responded with a resounding note of agreement.
Capella asked for even more food. Carol demanded more. Stage seemed full, but he could sense that Junior was hungry even if he wasn't asking. Scratching them to sooth them, he moved towards Annith and awkwardly climbed onto her waiting back with the four attached to them. He glanced about, blinking, finding much of his attention taken up his new firelizards. Kerath was gone, meaning W'al was too. He felt a flash of guilt, which he carefully kept from the fair, remembering back to being a weyrling and dealing with a young dragon. Annith, sensing his thoughts since he could no longer keep a single thing she wanted to know from her, reassured him that the pair had gone off fine. With that, she carried them back to the weyr that belonged to them. All of six of them.
Nobody seemed keen on interacting with D’lios, but he was not surprised and almost preferred it. He was very interested in watching the hatching and could focus on each of the little firelizards that emerged. He stood, arms crossed, and kept his thoughts and opinions to himself, though Perbiath bobbed eagerly in the back of his mind.
The two Greens that had been making a show of themselves for some time finally impressed. That they impressed to the same person was no surprise. Perbiath felt a sigh of relief that no one else in the room inside saw. D’lios was immensely relieved that the pair had not chosen them. They were… fantastic, but common. He knew that realistically his chances of impressing something he liked were low (why had he not just gone and bought a sharding Queen egg???) but he still looked with special interest at every high color. The next to catch his eye was a heavily-muscled White, who broke from his egg and faced the world with a pride reminiscent of Perbiath’s, but far more dignified. Very good; Whites were rare. Then came a Pink, uninteresting to him, but a Bronze and a Brown! He stood up straighter, making sure they could see him when they chose.
But the almost-forgotten White had other plans. D’lios felt an indignant tug on his mind that was smaller and different from Perbiath. He looked away from the Bronze and Brown and met the sure eyes of the White. He sat patiently on the edge of the bed, waiting for D’lios expectantly. The Weyrling Holder could feel quite clearly that the flitter had no intention of moving- D’lios was going to come to him. D’lios smiled and grabbed a piece of meat on the way over to him. He could tell that he and the flitter were like-minded already- worthy for each other. Perbiath and he were like-minded as well, but Perbiath was stubborn and bigger than him At the end of the day, if the Brown didn’t feel like listening to him he didn’t.
The White sniffed the piece of meat that D’lios offered him snobbishly. D’lios could tell that he regarded the thing with distaste, but reached forward and took it between his teeth in a dignified sort of way, swallowing the thing down. He would expect better in the future. Scrambling up D’lios’s still outstretched arm he took up place on the man’s shoulder, sitting up straight and looking around. D’lios nodded to him and turned to go, pleased. He had no other business here. Mine, Mine! What did you get Come show me!
