Do not contradict your Weyrwoman, Mine, Orisinth warned, having received Mirith's words. The bronze looked at his Gold, then, letting her know he'd passed it on as well. He went back to listening in.
Didn't plan on it, Oris, K'rid replied.
"It is a little bit of an odd decision," K'rid said, backing up Mina. "A fighter as a wingsecond? Even in a small Weyr like this, there has to be a few other bronzes or browns around that could do it, or purples. Since when do things like that change?" He sounded impatient, as always, for an answer and a better explanation than had been provided.
Lury, Jr. Weyrwoman of Fort, nodded in agreement. Fort held tight to the old traditions, conservative as it was. The thought of a cyanrider as a wingsecond wouldn't even have been entertained at Fort.
Issole of Benden, however, had other ideas. She raised her eyebrows at the news, her eyes sparkling with happy surprise. "Well! Good for him, I say. Doesn't matter what colour, you know. Just like people, dragons can act different. Cyans are new, anyways. Female fighter or not, we can't just lump them together with flighty greens. The two must be pretty impressive, I trust." At that, she smiled at Fajra, approvingly, fully trusting the Dalibor Weyrwoman's decision. [/blockquote]

Home, is this the quiet place where you should be alone? Is this where the tortured and the troubled find their own? I don't know, but I can tell this isn't you, your cover's blown, Oh no, don't you dare hang up this phone.
Before her own weyrleaders or the Dalibor Weyrwoman could interfere, Lili stepped forward to prove her worth. She smiled accommodating at the cheerful words of the Benden Weyrwoman but didn't dare leave her course of action. "How big is Rhyolith?" She posed the question casually but it was clear she had some point to her inquiry. While straightened up, she still sat her weight back like a feline.
"31 feet, give an inch;" Fajra said, making it clear that Rhyolith wasn't under that length in any way. She explained with no great enthusiasm, simply clearly detailing the facts. "She is the largest yet, but her sisters are not much smaller. Sister, now. The others are much younger." The hint seemed well placed.
"My Azeuth is smaller than that, and we have still acted as wingseconds in a satisfactory manner." Lili glanced at P'pin, who offered a firm nod of agreement to her words. She held no formality about herself, but she showed a clean militaristic strategy to her behavior. Deria gave her a subtle poignant look, which she ignored, wrapping up in her own time. "One or two blueriders in a Weyr have often served as wingseconds. Even browns can be fools. Even greens can speak wisdom." The statement sound proverbial, though it had no clear place of origin.
Turning away from Lili, Fajra looked to Issole. The other Weyrwoman's cheerfulness grated on her slightly, but she liked the support that Issole offered. While Lili's words had been useful, she figured that moving quickly away from them would do everyone some good. "They are a magnificent pair. We'll see if they might be able to make a later appearance." Fajra glanced at Avalle to give the task to her, gaze cool, suggesting nothing. The junior was the cyanrider's classmate, so it was only fitting. From there, her eyes swept out again. The issues she had wanted out were out. Each added passing second beyond the necessary was a bomb filled with political shrapnel. "Anything else, or can we adjourn?"
Give me space so you can drown in this with me, Hey, give me space but I can't breathe, Give me space but I can't sleep, Give me just one inch, I swear that's all I'll need.

Mina settled, appeased enough by the analysis of others. She was not one to split hairs for no reason. While she still wasn't completely sure about such a decision, she knew other Weyrwoman in her Weyr that at one point or another had sought the counsel of what some termed the "lesser colors". She herself, nor K'rid, would likely allow such an arrangement as a fighting dragon for a wingsecond, but what these Weyrleaders did about their own Weyr was their business, she supposed. Autonomy in the Weyrs was important. High Reaches' policies in no way should affect Dalibor's. So she held her tongue, she remained silent.
However, she didn't expect K'rid to. So when Fajra called for a possible adjournment to the meeting, Mina made no move at all. She and K'rid should seem on the same side, and no matter what he said it was her duty to follow him, just as he had followed her in her own actions. They were a team, a unit, even if she was not overly fond of him. He was a fine man, she had to admit. She had no overwhelming complaints about him, and she trusted his mind well enough as was fitting. As if to stir him to speak or make a decision for the both of them, she placed a kind hand again upon his thigh. It had become some small way for her to communicate to him without words or dragons.
Mirith, on the other hand, was now snuggled quite close to Orisinth on their shared ledge. Since the immediate danger had passed, she was now somewhat bored with the proceedings. The minds of men were often silly to her, but because Mina was invested in the inside discussions she always kept an ear upon them and would still chime in occasionally. For that moment, though, with things seeming to be temporarily at peace, she enjoyed the collective warmth of hers and her weyrmate's bodies.
'Hasn't Dalibor other questions to address?' The gold asked both her rider and her bronze weyrmate simultaneously. 'With such a formal meeting, it is rather short of them.' Mina couldn't say she disagreed. But it was no longer her turn to speak. Let someone more experienced do the talking, she thought. Having no prior experience with Weyrleader meetings, she felt the piece she had spoken was the only contribution she should make. Unless, of course, something came up she felt more strongly about. But, like Mirith, while she still felt cheated out of answers she was becoming less and less interested in the proceedings. Her eyes scanned the other occupants of the room now, as if inquiring of each of them to say something.

Roha knew many of the Weyrleaders here - she had served on council with plenty of them, although they changed as the turns went by. She was one of the older women here, nearing fifty three - her dark hair was lined with silver and she had wrinkles at the corner of her eyes and mouth. However, old as she was she was a Weyrwoman - a Senior one, and she would not be disrespected here. Dalibor was a new place, and a new time - they would bow to tradition as the rest of them did. O’sho was speaking, and Roha turned to him then, for you see, they had history.
O'sho was Roha's second Weyrmate - he had beaten N'car after the much older Ironrider had slipped up. O'sho had been a Junior Weyrleader for some time then - this was before Lury's Gold had even hatched - and Roha had always found that things ran slightly... Smoother when the Bronzerider was the Junior Weyrleader. He was an asset around Fort, and sooner than later Ezelth had decided that N'car's Iron was done... And when she rose the next time, she didn't choose him. Instead, Roha found herself wakening next to O'sho. She liked him, and for a small amount of time like liked him. But she had never had time for that in her life, and quickly put that aside, relying on him as a Weyrleader.
Which was why, a few days before Ezelth rose, when he put in his application for transfer to the new Weyr... She was not particularly happy. It was a stab for her, a stab for Ezleth, and a stab for Fort, her own child. She granted it - how could she not? But when she did, she spoke to him with none of the comfortableness she had had with him in past times. It was a betrayal, in her eyes, and she would never forgive him or Dalibor. So, when he spoke, she only seemed to get colder, shoulders stiffening and eyes flashing. 'Our words are not meant to be insults, Roha of Fort. We have no cause to lie to you or any of those assembled. Fajra, Avalle, and I will speak only the truth to you. D’ror was half the leader of the Renegade faction, and he was very much alive and capable before the events that we have hitherto described. His weyrmate, Varya, was much the same. We would be more than happy to speak to you personally after everyone who wishes to has had a chance to speak and all the issues that are brought to the table have been discussed. Now, what else would we like to discuss?'
She wanted to strike something, and Ezelth was raging, tail dancing faster than a cobra and a steady growl rising in her throat. She saw the other Queen's readying themselves for a fight and rose herself to her full height, half mantling her wings. Let them DARE. She was Queen - older than most there, larger than most their as well. She would only bow for Kalith, and in that she had no choice - this was not her home. But Her's was angry, and they were disrespecting Fort - something that the pale golden beauty could not and would not take lightly.
It was Lury who spoke next, quiet and calming next to her. 'Roha, surely, it is better that D'ror was dealt with before he could put too much of a bad name to Fort. It's alright.' The Weyrwoman only shot a glance at her Junior Weyrwoman and waiting, sitting down. This was not over. Ezelth, please explain to Bradith the next time that Lury decides to question me in public I will personally make sure to transfer her to the most miserable place I can think of. She would scold the women later, but it was all about image when it came to the Weyr's - a Weyr united, following under the leadership... She should have taken one of the older Junior Weyrwomen, but Lury was a strong girl who was focused - and had never been Weyrmate's to O'sho. She figured it was good for the younger women to learn - next time, she wasn't so sure.
Ezleth complied, growling softly to Bradith - You know better, little Queen. You do not question the Senior Queen's in public - if she must talk, it will be of support. We cannot show weakness to these people, or they will throw it back in our face and say that Fort is weak. That is unacceptable, and you should have restrained Your's.
Roha ignored everything else, to that point. The Cyanrider being Weyrsecond made no difference to her. It was not until Fajra spoke the last words did she rise again, making it quite clear that she was NOT finished. 'Anything else, or can we adjourn?'
"One thing, please, Weyrwoman Fajra. Bronzerider O'sho." She would not call him Weyrleader - in her opinion, he had left her and Fort, and did not deserve to be a Weyrleader. Her words were clear, clipped, polite - but her eyes burned with steel fire. "Fort believes that you have no right to lay claim to the renegades - if it was, indeed, our fault that D'ror was alive, I say that you return to the renegades to their home Weyr and let them deal with them as they see fit. You have no right to sit on traitors to the Rider name. And, O'sho of Dalibor, your words did insult us. D'ror was dead - my Queen and I both sorrowed for him and his Brown, because he was one of the only faithful men I knew." A snub to him, and she was pushing on. "Fort does not care if Dalibor plays with their Wings, and I say it is a fair chance for every rider. If this Cyanrider has the ability to push ahead of the rest, it does not matter. But Dalibor will have no love from Fort if you do nothing about these traitors, and although we grieve for the Rider's you have lost, you have no claim over them besides as murderers."
