He didn't take his job very seriously. If it had been implied that he was supposed to be attentive, alert, constantly checking, well... he wasn't. All he knew was that His was away and that he was still back here, on the shelf, overlooking the infirmary. He didn't know where she went. He couldn't bother himself with that right now. She'd told him to 'mind the place.' He knew what that meant, as he'd been told it many times before. Sit there, watch, show people three pictures if they look confused. That was his job.
The brown firelizard Andry was lazy about it. In fact, with his dusty colouring, he might have looked simply like an extension of the wall onto the shelf. Some tumorous, lethargic growth. The only thing keeping him from falling completely asleep were Cleo's words, 'mind the place.' He always obeyed his Mine, because he loved her, but he wished she hadn't told him that. Then he could close his eyes, catch up on some shut eye, and do a whole bunch of wondrous nothing.
Idly, he grumbled to himself. It was a bit of a comic noise, really, because while his voice was deep for a firelizard, it was still a firelizard's voice. He readjusted his wings, shifted his pudgy body's weight, rolled his eyes, and plopped back down. His tail hung lazily off the side of the shelf. Half-lidded little eyes watched the door.

Geree, with her two green sisters in tow, grumbled under her breath. Ever since that Red had shown up, Hers had less and less time for the three of them. Like now, for instance. The monster was getting a bath, and they hated going to the lake with that thing, so they decided to go exploring. Not only that, she had injured Hers! Hers had even been laid up for a couple of days while she healed. The Red dragonet was nothing but trouble, and she wished that Hers would just send her away. No matter how many times they asked her to, Jasra repeatedly said no. Why couldn't she see that the three of them were enough? Or did she think that they weren't?
The little Pink decided to stop thinking about it so much, seeing as they were heading for the infirmary and had no idea what they would encounter. Dioia and Anthe chittered at each other, diving at one another in the air as they began another bought of play fighting. They were too engrossed to really pay attention to where they were going, so they were surprised to enter the darker space of the infirmary. They were soon over it and fighting again, this time heading right for the shelf on which Andry lay, who they had no idea was there. Neither did Geree, as she joined in. Soon they were tumbling about on the shelf in a big pile until they bumped into the plump Brown in a torrent of squawking and chattering.

Akal flapped from the room, screeching in fury as Meggo swept after him. Both were obviously angry, and Meggo, with the edge of his wing burned by a glow, was definitely in a worse mood.
Meggo snapped his fangs after the Black's retreating tail as he chased after that annoying creature that was also bonded to His. He was tired of this! He hadn't done anything to deserve it, other than Impressing the best human-thing available. So he'd already been bonded to an ugly, annoying Black, but he was far better than anything else bonded to His, even that pink looking Purple, but that was not the point.
He was not going to sit around while this annoying Black tried to get rid of him! Meggo's fangs snapped in the air again as they plunged into the darkened air of the infirmary, headed straight for the shelf.
Akal pulled up in time. Meggo did not. Crashing into the shelf, Meggo creeled furiously, shaking himself and getting back to his feet, only a little dizzy. Okay, more than a little dizzy. He swayed on his feet as he glared at Akal, who made a sound that sounded suspiciously like laughter.
Meggo glowered, before turning his head towards the tangle of firelizards next to him, flaring his wings in disgust.

Cue heart attack.
He'd been expecting, say, a human or two to walk into the infirmary, maybe someone with that funny red stuff coming out of them. He hadn't been expecting a ball of chattering, fighting, clawing green and pink! No, no, that wasn't in the books. His hadn't told him about this. He squawked in surprise, being ran into by three ladies. And they weren't even lovely ladies! Andry never really had the enthusiasm for women. Women were just too much work to please, and this... catfight just proved it. Gosh! They were violent!
Just as Andry had just recovered from the scare Geree, Anthe, and Dioia, another one came! At least this one wasn't another girl... It was a bronze. Well, that actually made it even worse. The thing crashing into his shelf was bigger than him! His poor nerves were pretty delicate by now, and his eyes were whirling wildly with agitation. This just wasn't his day. How come this had to happen when he was on watch? Huh? The world was just out to get him.
In an attempt to get it to stop, he put out his pudgy front claws and shoved at the lady-tangle, grumbling. He probably would have stuck his wings out, to make himself look bigger, but it would take too much effort. In any case, he wouldn't be as impressive as the bronze, anyways. It didn't bother him much. He didn't see any reason to be better than a silly bronze. He was fine with being just Andry.
He sighed heavily. Oh, was he supposed to send them the pictures, too? The ones Mine told him to... They weren't humans, though, and they didn't seem to be looking for a healer-human. Ugh... There was too much thinking, too many heart attacks, and too many seconds wasted on being awake! What an awful day! [/blockquote]

Geree quickly climbed to the top of the pile, front end on Dioia and back end on Anthe. She chirped her victory before climbing off of her green siblings, unaware for the moment of the disgust of the two males also on the shelf. Anthe and Dioia were very much aware of the other two firelizards, being very stuck-up and looking down their noses at them. They squawked in indignation when Andry pushed them, hissing and snapping their wings open angrily. They didn't care what color he was or how much bigger than them he was, he would be the loser if they decided he needed to be taught a lesson. Especially since he was quite a bit rounder, their frames made lean and tough from their many bouts of play fighting.
Geree glanced over at Andry, and would have joined in her sisters angry display, except for the fact that she spotted Meggo. Big, beautiful Meggo. This was her first up-close look at a bronze, and needless to say, she found the view very interesting. The brown who had so angered her sisters was completely forgotten as she shifted, sidling up to Meggo and showing off her glistening pink hide. At least Hers still had enough time to give them all proper oiling on a regular basis. She chirped at the much bigger firelizard, trying to get his attention. Her sisters were busy, and besides, she was much prettier than them.

Meggo folded his wings as Akal soared out of the room, making that extremely annoying cackling sound. Meggo sighed, glancing at the brown as the male sighed. He shrugged apologetically at Andry, settling down on the shelf as the two greens hissed and squawked at the brown, and Meggo snorted to himself.
Females were absolutely crazy, apparently. Those greens acted as if they thought they were better than him. Well, that was absolutely ridiculous. He was the best, wasn't he? They weren't better than him, but as long as they were having issues with Andry, and not going off on him, he was fine. They weren't his issue.
Still, he examined the two greens, trying to figure out why exactly they thought they were better than any brown - even a pudgy, lazy brown. They were greens, and browns were definitely better than any green. This was confusing. Meggo frowned, snorting. He didn't feel like figuring this out.
He was so absorbed in this that he nearly missed Geree sidling up to him. Still, it was kind of hard to miss that beautiful pink hide. It was kinda . . . bright, though. Meggo blinked as she crooned, and he tilted his head curiously, crooning in return softly.

What? No! No, that's not what was supposed to happen. He only meant to shove them so they'd go away and fight somewhere else, inside of threatening to streamroll right over him, but they were mad at him now! Was trying to preserve himself such a crime? Honestly, he didn't get it. These girls were crazy. He winced at their squawking and hissing, cringing down until he was laying again.
From his more comfortable position - his weight was more spread out now, thankfully - he looked at Anthe and Dioia and chirped to them. It wasn't quite an apology, but it did sound like he had no intention of getting into a fight (which was true), and that he wanted them to calm down and leave him alone. It was rare that Andry had a bad day, so when one did roll around, it was so much more worse. He felt awful! He had a splitting headache now, too...
He briefly saw Geree getting flirty with the bronze. He was glad it was the bronze, and not him. Girls were all just plain bonkers. Worriedly, he glanced back at Anthe and Dioia with tired, pleading eyes, hoping they'd just leave off it. [/blockquote]

Geree preened at his attention, arching her neck and flaring her wings. She didn't really notice his slight confusion at her attention. How could he not think her hide beautiful, her slim and muscled form perfect in every way? Of course he did. He was a bronze, and he had crooned to her. She let out the firelizard version of a girly giggle and darted around behind him to the end of the shelf, inviting him to chase and play.
Anthe and Dioia were confused. Andry was a brown, and he was bigger than them. Why did he just lie down? He hadn't even challenged them at all. Well he was being no fun. They chittered to each other, not really sure of what to do now. If he had fought them, they would have won and that would have been the end of it, but now what were they supposed to do? Anthe glanced over at Geree for some direction, but she was busy flirting with the bronze they hadn't really noticed up until now. She would be no help. If Andry wasn't going to be any fun, then she supposed they would just have to make their own. Anthe chirped at her sister and hopped right over the prone form of big Andry. If he wouldn't be entertaining, they would make him be. Dioia joined her sister, and they were soon jumping back and forth over poor Andry, but they were careful to not actually touch him. He might get mad and push them again.

Now Meggo was extremely confused. As he watched her arch neck and flare her pretty wings, he tilted his head and pawed through his mind in a valiant struggle to remember anything that might help him in this situation. Things were so confusing! Well, at least he wasn’t dealing with Akal anymore. Akal was being stupid – then again, he always was. At least this pretty pink would be a welcome distraction from Akal. Meggo still couldn’t see why His wouldn’t just get rid of that ugly little black and the pink-purple, but that didn’t matter all that much. Now he could enjoy the attentions of that pink. She was pretty, after all. Quite pretty.
As she darted behind him, Meggo jolted, turning around faster than he would’ve thought possible and watching her head for the end of the shelf, and inviting him to chase. After a moment’s hesitation and a quick glance in the direction of the two greens that were tormenting the brown on the end of the shelf, Meggo pranced cheerfully after Geree, crooning as he went. This was going to be fun, wasn’t it? He was going to show this female that he was the best – not that he should have to show anyone that.

He was confused. He was awfully confused... Women. He'd never understand them. The brown let out a sighing, drawn-out whimper, tucking his overweight self up as much as he could while Anthe and Dioia used him as a runnerjump. Hopefully they wouldn't bump into him if he squished in enough... Trying to be tiny wasn't the easiest of tasks, for him. It wasn't his fault he was pudgy, though. Sure, he didn't get out much, and he ate a lot, and he slept all the time, but it was probably just his metabolism. Yeah, that was it. He didn't mind, though. He didn't need to be gorgeous or anything.
The smart thing to do was ask the girls to stop, or wriggle away, or put on a game face and refuse to take their crap. Andry, however, was too tired and too lazy and had to much of a headache to do anything.
So he just sat there. And sighed a few more times. Eventually, they'd lose interest, wouldn't they? He had a feeling their attention spans just barely existed. Yep... they'd lose interest... Sigh. [/blockquote]

Geree gave a chirp of delight as she Meggo follow. Oh, good! He could see how pretty she was, how much better than her sisters she was. And on top of that, he was willing to play! So many males were boring and no fun at all, as Anthe and Dioia were discovering, but it seemed that Meggo wasn't one of them. With a flirtatious flick of her rump, sending her tail into motion, she lept from the shelf. She turned and called out a challenge, inviting Meggo to try and catch her. This would be such fun!
Anthe and Dioia were having such worse luck with Andry that they soon abandoned him altogether. Why did he have to be so boring! First he was rude, then he just sat their like a lump and wouldn't do anything. Oh well. Looking around, Anthe spotted Geree calling to play. Yay! She gave a little trill and nudged Dioia, pointing with her snout to where Geree was. Dioia gave her own little trill in reply and bounded to the edge of the shelf, launching herself into the air. Anthe hurried to join her, but Geree was having none of it. The fierce little pink would not have her game with Meggo interrupted. She hissed at her sisters and, since Dioia caught up to her first, buffeted her with her wings in the air, forcing her and Anthe back to the shelf. How could Meggo see she was better than them if they got in the way?
Now the two greens sat on the edge of the shelf, looking forlornly at the pink who was normally so willing to play she didn't much care who it was she was playing with. The gave sad little croons and cuddled close to each other. She had been so mean! Ever since that stupid bronze had shown up, she'd been acting strange, not joining in their games with Andry. She hadn't even helped defend them when he pushed! Dioia was most upset and huddled under Anthe's wing, pressed close to her side. Geree was unmoved and simply called again to Meggo, letting him know that she still wanted to play.

Meggo paused only for a second or two before launching himself after Geree, glancing over his shoulder with a hint of pity in his gaze to examine the brown that was being waylaid by the two greens.
He gave a hiss of surprise upon realizing that the greens were gone, and spun around in the air to hunt down those two greens, then he finally realized that they were in the air just behind him. He folded his wings, plummeting downwards and attempting to get out of the way.
Meggo just managed it, and he hovered in the air, beating his wings steadily as he waited for the two greens to move back to their old perch so that he could go back to playing with the pink in peace and quiet and show off his gleaming bronze hide.
Geree called to Meggo again, and the bronze beat his wings a few times to get to the same height as the pink, then crooned a reply.

See? He was right. The two energetic greens did indeed lose interest in time, and Andry heaved a heavy sigh of relief as they went after Geree and the bronze instead. He didn't like the ruckus they made, but at least they weren't jumping over him anymore. That, thankfully, gave him some time to stretch his wings and spread himself out on the shelf, lazily. He was very glad he didn't have to scrunch up small anymore.
The greens came back, though, and at first Andry was worried they'd come to play with him again. It became apparent that they were looking rather dejected, though. He hadn't been paying attention to what was going on, but he assumed they'd been argued back to the shelf to leave the pink to flirt. They looked very sad... Andry wasn't usually one to bother with other people. He preferred to be independent. Still... Hm.
He chirped to the two, questioningly. [/blockquote]

Geree trilled when Meggo crooned to her again and took off, darting through the infirmary. Oh, what fun! A male who wasn't a boring lump was a nice change from her usual encounters. She landed briefly on an empty bed before jumping down and crawling under it to come up on the other side and take to the air once more. A game of chase was the perfect way to forget about the Red monster that was taking Hers away from her.
Anthe looked over at Andry while Dioia peered at him from her shelter under Anthe's wing. Oh, so now he was interested. Now that they were sad and didn't really feel like doing anything. Well, that was changing fast. Couldn't he see that they didn't want anything to do with him anymore. Anthe gave an angry trill and advanced on him with her wings outstretched, making herself look as big as her small green self could manage. But she wasn't alone. Dioia wasn't far behind, hissing her annoyance with the lazy brown. Her wings were flared as well as she flanked her sister. Who did this brown think he was? He ignored them one minute, then acted interested the next. He should just make up his mind already!
