A light summer's rain fell, barely disguising the heat, though it did hide the sun. A dark green splashed about in the water, the figure of her rider almost invisible when compared to the much larger dragon.
See, AkiraMine? This is how the summer days should be spent! Together! Happily, the green spread her wing for a moment, showering Her's with water as she shielded Her's from the rain. Akira smiled, ducking under the water to avoid the drizzle from Coreth's wing. When she resurfaced, she responded slowly, grinning, "Well, Coreth, I am having fun." Grinning, she began to stroke towards the shore smoothly, hauling herself onto the beach and twisting her hair up into a bun. The pudgy young rider wore her favorite pants, though they were soggy and clung to her body, and a loose black shirt. She flopped on her back in the sand, missing the feeling of the skirt on her bare skin, and grinned lazily. After a moment, the green swam to the shore as well, crooning lazily as she curled up on the sand beside Her's. AkiraMine, where is Sea? The absence of the flitter was something, Coreth felt keenly. She missed the little green firelizard who quite enjoyed to sleeping on Her's shoulder. As long as it made Her's happy, Coreth was happy, unless she was sharing Her's, which was a whole different story. "I have no idea." Akira responded slowly, rubbing her eyes with her hands absently, sending out a mental call as she did so, summoning the lighter green firelizard. After a moment, the green came winging over the horizon, crooning as she settled on Akira's shoulder. Coreth relaxed, crooning again. There is your little Sea. she said happily. Sharing Her's with a firelizard wasn't so bad, as Sea would never replace Coreth. Coreth knew that much for sure. "Indeed, indeed." Akira said with a grin, adjusting herself on the sand so that she could lean against Coreth's side, trying to ignore the sand that was working its way under her clothes. Coreth gave a final, happy croon before letting her eyes drift shut, croon fading into a sleepy rumble as Akira rested against her side. The moment Coreth dozed off, Sea was off with an apologetic croon in Her's direction, winging away. Akira was the only one awake, she realized, smile spreading across her face as she scrabbled up onto Coreth's back. If she sat just like this, she could pretend that she and the green were flying through the air together, instead of sitting in the sand all alone. Akira really wanted to talk to someone. She was almost wriggling on Coreth's back at the thought of conversation. Being alone was so boring![/blockquote]

Ugh.
Rain.
Dekistee peeked out from the dining hall in the direction of the Weyrling Barracks. Why did they have to be so far away? She wanted a nap! The dining hall was much too loud at this hour! Ugh! She touched her hair unhappily-- she had spent almost a candlemark this morning putting it up in an intricate, tightly-contained style that would escape the clutches of the summer humidity, but rain? No hairdo behaved after it got wet! Dekistee sighed. Stupidly of her, she'd left her pretty little umbrella in her room. She was somewhat tempted to have Daibunareth fetch it for her. The dragon was curled up in their room, napping. He was still young, and he was exhausted-- Dekistee had found him this morning up on the rim of the Weyrbowl. Apparently he had been there all night-- he'd wanted to see the watchwhers make their rounds. Dekistee frowned. Unlike Teruth and Izkeeyerdeth, he was having no trouble fitting into their room!
She repeated the question she asked herself every day: why had the loathsome little Black chosen her, of all people? She didn't like him! She wasn't entirely sure he liked her! He was a creepy little thing. A day where he strung three words together was a rare one indeed. And he was always watching! {Daibunareth!} she called, even her mindvoice shrill and imperious. {Bring me my umbrella!} There was no response from the Black. Dekistee hadn't expected one. She just got an image of soft, hazy purple sleepiness. {I know you're going to come out to see the rain! You might as well bring me my umbrella while you're at it!}
Daibunareth did not deign to give her a response once again. He merely got to his feet and grabbed the gaudy pink umbrella in his mouth, careful not to break it. It didn't bother him that Dekistee treated him more like a subordinate than a partner. He knew how she was. She wasn't sure why he'd picked her, but he knew why. She was pretty to look at. It was ironic, really, that Dekistee, superficial as she was, had Impressed the one dragonet that cared for little past visuals. In a way, they were made for each other. Certainly no other dragon would be able to put up with Dekistee. They'd all be miserable with her. He liked to think that he'd made her even prettier. Through long, slow, soft suggestions, he'd gotten her to wear slightly less make up, look slightly less like a made-up doll.
Daibunareth trudged out into the rain. The wetness didn't bother him. It merely intrigued him. It was hard to say that Daibunareth was capable of loving anything, but weather was one of his favorite things. It was magnificent and beautiful and different every time. There was always something new to look at, to observe. He moved slowly towards Dekistee, taking in the rain, ignoring her hums of impatience. Finally, he reached her, and he handed her the umbrella, trying not to wince when she opened it and strutted outside. The bright pink didn't fit with the dark, soft colors of the rain. It stood out. It was ugly.
Daibunareth walked calmly after Dekistee. However, it didn't take him long to notice a Greenpair swimming in the lake. Now, they fit. The dark green hide of the dragon and the black clothing of her 'Rider matched the dark gloom of the weather. Daibunareth stopped in his tracks, just watching. The Greenpair exuded a sunny yellow happiness that stood out like a sore thumb from the darkness, but unlike the pink umbrella, it was not ugly. One bright spot in a dim world? That could be beautiful. Visually poetic, if one would.
Dekistee caught Daibunareth staring. She sighed in a very dainty, ladylike way. Why did he have to do that? It was so awkward! "Daibunareth!" she trilled, but the Black ignored her. They were quite close to the Greenpair. Dekistee looked at them, but failed to find the same fascination that her dragon did. "Eww, Daibunareth!" she said, not bothering to keep her voice down. It wouldn't exactly be hard for the Greenrider to overhear them. "Why are you staring at them? They're not even good-looking! Look at how fat she is! And that get-up! C'mon, let's get back inside!" she whined. She waited a few seconds (Daibunareth was trying to send her his fascinating image of the sunny yellow feelings amongst the darkness, but she was purposefully ignoring him) before striding off angrily without him. She wasn't going to get herself soaked just because the crazy Black dragon that was unfortunately bonded to her wanted to stare at an ugly Greenpair.

The dark form of the black watching them would have been missed entirely if his rider hadn't spoken up. Akira glanced up at the sound, half expecting the woman to be talking to her, since she hadn't been keeping her voice down at all. Hmm... That name sounded like a dragon's name, though. Her eyes lighted on the form of the black. Of course. After a moment of thought, she prodded Coreth with her foot.
The green stirred, grumbling to herself. Coreth opened a single eye, What is it, AkiraMine? she questioned, not quite happy, but not angry either. Akira paused before responding, listening carefully to the blackrider's words. "Why are you staring at them? They're not even good-looking! Look at how fat she is! And that get-up! C'mon, let's get back inside!" The words took a bit of time to sink in, but once they did, Akira looked rather annoyed, "Fat? Hah. I'll show her fat." she muttered to herself, annoyed, "Get-up? What get-up?" she added a moment later, shooting a glare in the black's direction, only to notice after a moment of squinting, that the rider was gone. Coreth snorted, Oh, relax. It's what's on the inside that matters, AkiraMine. Willing to give whoever it was the benefit of the doubt, the cheerful green turned towards the black that still stood there. Hello! I am Coreth! Might I ask who you are? Made all the happier by knowing she wouldn't have to share Her's with the black's rider, any insults that the blackrider might have directed at her (she hadn't been paying much attention to the blackrider's words) rolled right off her. Akira was distinctly less forgiving. She wasn't fat! She was just slightly rounded! Still, she slid lightly from Coreth's back and offered a smile in the black's direction, wondering why he still stood there. His rider had already left, as far as Akira could tell, so why was he still there? "Hello!" she called towards the dragon. It wasn't his fault his rider had been so insulting. [/blockquote]

Daibunareth was not a stupid dragon, but he rather appeared like it. It took him quite a long time to respond to Coreth's friendly greeting. As a rule, the Black didn't like interaction with others. He much preferred to be on the outside looking in. Actually being a part of something meant that he lost his favored position as an observer. It was unnecessarily difficult to see the pictures when one had to interact with someone else. He was willing to just watch Coreth and Hers for candlemarks at a time, but he was most reluctant to actually talk to the Greenpair. Conversation was too messy. There were too many layers, too many rules. The pictures were clean, simple, beautiful.
He stared at Coreth for nearly a minute before responding. And, even then, he only said Daibunareth.
Another several long seconds stretched by before he deigned to add Starseeker Weyrling. Mine is Dekistee. He continued to look at Coreth and Akira. It was only a degree less intense than a stare, but it was a little disconcerting nonetheless. He felt a small, nagging feeling that he should say something to account for His's rude behavior, but he did not. He understood that His did such things fairly often. It would be unnecessarily complicated to apologize for her each and every time. She should learn to do it herself. Daibunareth would not get involved. Still, His's abrupt departure was bothering him, and not only because she needed to say something. Having one full dragonrider pair and one lone dragon looked strange. It wasn't right. There should be two 'riders for two dragons. Symmetry. DekisteeMine, Daibunareth said quietly to her retreating form. Come back. Or I will tell Izkeeyerdath's about... Daibunareth did not have to finish the thought. His came stomping back immediately, clearly unhappy about being forced to return. Daibunareth was equally as displeased at having to stoop to blackmail like he had, but it had been necessary to make everything look as it should. Dekistee had heard Akira's friendly greeting, thinking it had been directed to her instead of her dragon. "Look, can we make this short? This is the most last thing I want to do! I would never be caught standing here in the rain with some ugly, loser Greenpair! I have better things to do!" Daibunareth winced, bright yellow unease infiltrating his normally emotionless, dull blue-grey eyes. His radiated aggression and a most unladylike manner. It was creating a rather discorded picture. Daibunareth didn't care much for words, but her awful grammar wasn't helping much. They can share the bright spot, Daibunareth said to Dekistee quietly, trying to share the wonderful image that had attracted him to the Greenpair originally. Once again, Dekistee ignored the picture, but she had to at least hear the words, even if she didn't want to listen. All she knew was that her dragon was blackmailing her into being here. "Ugh, fine. I'm sorry for calling you fat," she said, but no one could mistake her apology for a sincere one. {Can I leave now?} she whined to the Black.
