She sat on the bank, scared, shaking, shivering and everything in between. She couldn't move, and she didn't want to move. Tears stained her cheeks as she sat there, looking into the water. Her blue eyes were dim, almost as if she had be defeated.
Defeated was a weak word to be using. She looked more like a lost kitten, who had been beaten and tossed off of a moving cart. Small lines of blood striped her neck, chin, cheeks and chest. All were burning reminders of what had just happened, and a few still bled down her skin.
She shivered and coughed as more tears broke to the surface. She curled her knees to her chest, holding her breath with pain as she did so.
Nothing but a beaten beast, she thought as she buried her face into her knees and let the tears rush from her eyes.
I want to go home...Back with mother, She added more as tears streamed onto he pants. Truthfully, she wanted anyone she already knew wouldn't harm her more. She wanted X'ni to drop dead, and she wanted to wake up from this nightmare.

Late night found Frino restless, seated on the cot in his room, bored and looking around for Wrynri and Rethy or anyone that might be entertainment, really. Frisk didn't count - she was great and all, but the green wher could only provide so much companionship before Frino wanted a few human companions.
Frisk's happy? The green, who seemed to have heard the bored tinge to this thoughts, spoke quietly. Frino grinned, reaching out to rub the green wher's head. He was rewarded with a happy rumble before he spoke, "Yes, I am, darling girl." He grinned, flopping onto his back to stare up at the ceiling as Frisk worked her way up onto the bed beside him, crooning happily and trying to figure out why Hers found the ceiling so interesting. While she did that, Frino sighed, dropping his head back so that he could look at the wall. The world was all upside down now. Cool. But Frino wasn't very interested in that. He was bored now. Bored, and lonely to. For all that Frisk was great, things got lonely after a while. Ooh! Frisk idea! his thoughts were interrupted by the joyful voice of the spring green young wher. "Yes, my dear?" he rolled onto his side to look at the green, who had already launched herself from the cot and was sitting by his feet with happily whirling eyes. Go lake! she cried out delightedly, gazing adoringly up at Hers. Somehow, Frino didn't have the heart to say no to that adorable creature. "Very well, Frisk." he smiled as she leaped happily to her feet, hounding into the halls, Frino hot on her heels. In this manner, they made their way outside, Frino relying on Frisk's direction to guide them through the dimly lit hallways. It was kind of lonely this late in their day - most of the wherlings were sleeping or keeping quiet in the halls. Who that? Frisk questioned, breaking the silence. Frino glanced in the direction that Frisk was staring towards, eyes narrowing at the small form seated on the lake shore. "I have no idea, Frisk. Shall we go see?" He was happy to finally have some company, and wandered in the direction of the form. As soon as they were within speaking distance, he hailed the girl, "Hello!" Frino cried out, waving his arm in the air. And then his hand dropped to his side as he recognized the girl, and could finally make out the bloody scratches on her neck as he approached from the side. His normally happy eyes darkened, and he jogged up to her, fingers curling into tight fists? "Catori? What happened?" Frisk looked concerned as she peered up at the female Candidate. She okay? Frisk queried of Hers, butting her head gently against the girl's arm. I doubt it, Frisk. Looking worried, Frino gazed at his friend, losing the mental debate and reaching out to touch her shoulder lightly, trying to offer her comfort.[/blockquote]

Catori seemed oblivious to both Frino and his little Frisk, until Frisk touched her. She let out a yelp and shielded her face.
''No! Please, X'ni!'' She cried out as a sob escaped her. Her arms shook. She had never been scared like this before. She waited for that cold and fooling voice to hiss at her again and to feel his hands on her once more, but they never came.
Slowly, Catori lowered her arm to look into the face of the Green Wher. She immediatly recognized it. She had seen the little beast running around with Frino.
Frino.
Her eyes looked up slightly to see Frisk's handler standing there, his hand on her shoulder.
''Frino!'' She yelped as she threw herself at him. She wrapped her arms around his chest tightly and buried her face into his chest. Sobbing soon shook her body once more.
''Don't let him hurt me more...Please,'' She begged through his chest. She shook her head. For what reason? She didn't even know. She just found herself saying a silent no, over and over again.
''I will never look at another guy again... if it means he stays away!'' She muttered into his shirt.
She soon turned her head sideways, resting her cheek on his chest and reached out to Frisk. Tears made her face moist, and her eyes were still wild with fear. Her hair was a mess, and some strands were clumped with little bits of blood.

Though he was starting to get worried as she seemed to not notice him at all, the moment Catori began to speak, Frino's jaw clenched, and he gritted his teeth, anger obvious in his stance, "Tor? It's me, not X'ni. Really." For all that his voice was gentle, the arm that wasn't touching her shoulder clenched again, and his dark glare swept across the deserted lake. Oh, he had half a mind to hunt down this X'ni right then and hurt him. However, the other, stronger half of his mind was definitely of the opinion that staying with Catori would definitely be better.
But oh Faranth, he was angry. Though he'd only met Catori a few times before this moment, she was still his friend, and Frino protected his own. And obviously, he'd failed her. Somehow, he'd have to make up for it. Of course, he could also see her arms shaking, and that angered him even more.
At his side, Frisk had picked up on his emotions, and in a rare occurrence, her eyes whirled with crimson, What wrong? She bespoke the female Candidate, butting her head against Catori's arm again. When Catori turned towards him, the light of recognition in his eyes, and cried his name, he breathed a silent sigh of relief, only to realize an instant later that things still weren't good when she buried her face in his chest, sobs shaking her body. Slowly, Frino wrapped his arms around her, eyes narrowed as he looked over her head. Her words echoed in the air, and for a moment, he chewed on his lower lip, "I won't." Frino tightened his grip around her shaking body, "I won't let him hurt you." Promises were promises, and this was one he intended to keep. His light green eyes glinted with an inner steel and he rested his chin on the top of her blond head, rubbing her back slowly. His shirt was getting damp, which meant she was crying. When he got his hands on whoever this X'ni was, that man was going to regret what he'd done to Catori - even if he wasn't sure what exactly had been done to the Candidate. "Don't make any promises like that." Frino muttered, pressing his lips together. Judging by what she was saying, and the panicked way she shook in his arms, whatever had been done to her was fairly bad. Frisk gazed silently up at Catori with worried eyes as the Candidate reached out to touch her. At a mental nudge from Hers, the sober green stretched up to nudge the top of her head along Catori's palm, surprisingly . . . not happy for such a usually happy wher. Of course, that was probably because she was picking up on the chaotic mix of emotions from Hers.[/blockquote]

Catori could feel comfort coming back to her atlast. The warmth of Frino and the sound of the little wher made her smile slightly as another tear rolled down her face.
''I-I guess I got...What I deserved,'' She sniffled as she finally released Frino and sat back. She flinched as she moved, pain shooting everywhere. Her eyes watched the Wher for a moment. She noted the colors in its eyes, all whirling around.
''F-frino...'' She looked over at him, worried now. She saw the red, more like crimson, color in the young wher's eyes, which could only mean he was angry.
''I am sorry...Please...don't be mad...I-I didn't mean to do anything wrong...'' She looked down, more tears escaping. She KNEW she had upset Frino somehow!
The one person who cared enough, and she upset him, making him mad at her, and his Wher too! This night just was not working for poor Catori.

"C'mon now - don't cry." Frino brought his arm up to brush the tear from her cheek, "If you insist on crying, I'll insist on tugging that pretty blond hair of yours." he could feel his shirt getting ever soggier as tears rolled down her face.
"And as for getting what you deserved," he paused, biting his lip absently as she pulled back from him, letting his arms fall to his sides like leaden weights, "I don't think that's true." he shook his head slightly, reaching out to touch her cheek lightly. "Really." he stated firmly.
Mine unhappy. Frisk questioned, tilting her head so that her rapidly whirling eyes focused on Hers. Why? The green was confused. Why was Hers angry when nothing had happened to him? Frino took his attention away from Catori momentarily when his wher spoke to him. Well, Frisk, he began slowly, Catori is my friend, and when someone hurts my friends like that, something has to be done. And I'd really rather not leave her.The green had to admit that only the last part made sense to her. After spending several seconds puzzling over what he meant by something being done, she glanced up at Hers. Understand! It wasn't a lie, she figured, as long as Hers didn't believe it. They were, after all, mindmates, and she couldn't very well lie to him. Good. He was aware, in the back of his mind, that she didn't and that he'd have to explain it more later, but Frino could hear Catori talking again? "Yes?" he glanced in her direction as soon as she spoke his name, latching upon the nervous hint to her voice and narrowing his eyes slightly. Whoever this X'ni was, he'd be paying. ...Wait, what? "Catori, have you lost your mind?" he reached out to tilt her chin upwards, "Look at me." he ordered her, "Do I look angry at you?" he paused, "Because I'm not. I'm only angry at the spawn of a wherry who did this to you."Frisk looked confused again, but kept her mouth shut, gazing up at Catori with happy colors whirling through her eyes and only the slightest tinges of red touching them. Not mad. The green assured Catori. "See? Frisk isn't mad either." He let his hand fall reluctantly to his side again and smiled, "Now. Are you okay? Do we need to go down to the infirmary or anything like that?" It was clear he was worried about her - at least to him, anyways. He hoped it was clear to her as well.[/blockquote]

Catori choaked out a soft laugh. She used the back of her hand to wipe away some more tears as she shook her head.
''I can't move. I don't want to move,' She muttered softly as she sniffled. She moved her legs slightly, stretching out a bit, and grimaced in slight shot of pain, as if proving her point.
''As for losing my mind...'' She sniffled again and forced out a smile, trying to reassure her friend. She felt better now that he was here, and now that she knew someone did care about her.
''You know very well that I lost it long ago,'' She smiled a bit more, but her brows were still furrowed.
