Kire hadn't felt this excited for a long time. She held the two small eggs in her hands with such care she had only shown the dolphins back in the Dolphinhall. She cradled the two soft eggs in her arms as though they were more precious than a child and, to her, they were. They were indeed precious especially since one of them was for her roommate, Camea. She had decided that Paget's orders of 'go share' should be carried out. Not that she wouldn't have anyway but she had always thought that Camea would want another friend.
She had Myth already but it could never hurt to have another little creature to run around the room. Now they would have three flitts! She almost skipped for joy but stopped herself remembering what she held in her hands. They were not about to hatch so they were still delicate. She rounded the corner, watching exactly where she was going with such caution she had never shown prior. She imagined this would be how she treated her Wher when the next hatching came around. Of course, she did worry a little that the draconic kind wouldn't really like one another but she figured she had plenty more time to worry about that. For the moment, she needed to get this egg to Camea.
"Camea! I have something for you!" She called out to her roommate in cheerful tones. They needed to find some warm sand or something. She was holding them close to her so they would remain warm and she'd come directly from the Hall... She wrapped them a little in her shirt keeping them always close to her body. She couldn't afford for them to get cold now. "Don't worry little ones... You just stay warm." She spoke soothingly to the eggs as she came to the door of their room. It was closed. She tapped it lightly with her foot.
"Camea, if you're in there I need you to open the door please!" She called. She was so excited she could barely contain it any longer.

"Camea!" Camea roused with a start, having been writing a letter to her parents as they she was wont to do at least once a season. Myth, too, jolted from where she was napping on the wher candidate's bed and squawked irritably. The girl looked over at the green flit and sighed. Oh, Kire... the more time Camea spent with her the more she realized that the girl really was a dumb as dirt. Not a terrible person to have around, though. Perhaps she had forgotten how to turn the door handle? A snark grin tugged at one of the corner's of her mouth at the thought.
"Camea, if you're in there I need you to open the door please!"
"Okay, okay! I'm coming!" She found herself replying in a more irritable tone than perhaps was needed and she slipped up from where she was sitting and all but stalked to the door. Initially upon opening it she was glaring, but upon seeing what Kire carried her countenance brightened and she opened the door wider to allow the other girl in. "Where did you get those?" There was eager interest in her voice as Kire entered. She cleared a spot on her bed, making a make-shift nest out of some of the sheets. Now that there was a purpose, she seemed to move quite quickly, her mind and body moving faster than usual.
"Nevermind, it doesn't matter... We have to get something warm for them so they don't get too cold. Hold on-" with that she ran out of the door without further explanation, leaving Kire alone with Myth. The green flit, too, had taken a sudden interest in Kire and she hovered over her shoulder, looking at the eggs with cooing chirrups of interest. While she wasn't the brightest of flits, she knew what those semi-elliptical shapes meant... more of her! And more of her meant more of her kind to bask in her beauty!
It took a while, but Camea eventually returned with a bucket full of some sand and a few bits of wood and some flint. Immediately she went to work setting up the bucket and the wood so that there would be a method of keeping the sand, and therefore the eggs warm. Kneeling in front of her work, she gave Kire a stern look meant to stifle any questions as to where she might have gotten such supplies before she continued working.
"Here, we should set them in here to keep them warm... and can you start a fire?" She practically tossed the flint at her roommate's direction on the floor, holding out another steady hand with which to transfer one of the eggs to the sand as soon as Kire saw fit to hand one to her. She never bothered asking whether or not one of the eggs were for her... of course one was! She doubted Kire would have been so excited about it if that hadn't been the case.

Kire was grinning despite the annoyed glare that greeted her when her roommate opened the door. She barely even noticed it... In fact, she never really noticed anything. Kire wasn't exactly one to dwell or even recognise any emotion other than happiness. She didn't need to explain what it was that she needed as Camea stepped aside with a wondering question as to how she had managed to get the eggs. Her smile broadened. In fact, if she could smile from ear to ear she was certain she would. She was about to answer when Camea when she made a little nest on her bed. Kire stared at it blankly for a moment, Myth fluttering around over her shoulder chirrupping and looking at the eggs.
Of course! She had to keep them warm. That was what she had been thinking only a moment before and what Camea had just stated herself. Yes, that was what she needed to do. She'd almost forgotten about that. Silly. She placed the eggs carefully in the little nest in an almost motherly fashion and then looked towards Myth. "You can have two new friends!" She told the green happily, "That will be wonderful won't it?" She smiled happily at the Green and then looked back to the eggs.
Camea had by now bustled back into the room. Kire wasn't entirely certain where she had found the supplies but she decided that she didn't really want to know. She nodded though, in response to Camea's question. "Yes, I think I can do that." She replied. Camea had her hand out now and it took Kire a brief moment before she realised what she wanted. She took one egg from the nest and passed it to her roommate. She then knelt on the ground and started making a fire. "The Werybrats found them out at the Beach... They were giving them out in the Dining Hall and the Harper gave me two." She stated after a moment, "So I thought you'd want one."

Myth whistled happily when Kire mentioned that she'll have two new friends. Well, of course she would! Everyone was Myth's friend, in the eyes of the green. She landed neatly on Kire's shoulder and chittered encouragingly to the eggs, almost as if she expected them to hatch right then and there. Why were they keeping her waiting? When nothing happened she pouted, eyes turning a brooding yellow as her tail flicked with some agitation behind her dangerously close to Kire's neck.
Camea waited a tick before making a motion with her hand for Kire to hand the eggs over. Shortly after she sensed the feeling of the delicate weight of a tiny egg in her hand and began the work arranging the eggs properly (which shouldn't have taken as long as it did, considering she only had two to arrange). Myth, too, had taken off from Kire's shoulders and was pretending to fuss over them too, scratching at the sand with a dainty claw as if it would help anything.
"Ah. Leave it to kids to find a nest," she replied to Kire's explanation matter-of-factly. The wher candidate shuffled back a bit to look at her handiwork as her roommate worked on the fire. At the other girl's second comment Camea smiled as Myth gave a trill, "Aww, how kind of you to think of me! Thank you, Kire." It was feigned enthusiasm, but much happier that Camea seemed to be most of the time. After all, she was getting a flitter egg. Respect and gratitude were in order to reward the desirable behavior. Maybe, she began to think, Kire wasn't quite as bad of an acquaintance as she had seemed over the past several months. While not the brightest, she had a kind heart. Naive, but kind. Camea could use that.
"How many were there?" She asked, wondering if maybe she could weasel out the locations of the other eggs from her roommate so she might scope out the competition.

Kire laughed a little as Myth seemed to chatter away to the eggs after landing on her shoulder. Soon she would have her very own little firelizard who would sit on her shoulder in the same way... Yet it would be different, because the Flitt would be hers. Myth seemed a little upset that her friends didn't pop out of their shells as soon as she began chatting to them. In some ways, Kire felt a little the same. Of course, if they had hatched now there would be no doubt that something was seriously wrong. She felt something touch the back of her neck and realised it must have been Myth's tail. She merely reached a hand to rub the spot where the green had flicked her.
It took only a moment for the green to fly away when Camea started arranging the eggs. Kire realised then that she'd stopped trying to make a fire. She started a little and then began working on getting it started. A couple of sparks appeared but not enough to actually get the fire going. When Camea mentioned something about the children Kire nodded knowing exactly what she meant. Of course it would be the children who found the eggs... They seemed to have a sixth sense for just about anything that might offer them some amusement. When Camea thanked her Kire stopped and looked for a moment at Camea and then smiled a little sheepishly. "It was no trouble... And I think there were around twenty. I wasn't close enough to count. The hall was packed but there were a few larger eggs that were given to some of the Weyrlings and Riders. I think there was one really big egg that went to a candidate but I don't recall who it was." She replied after a moment.
By this point a few more sparks had appeared and the little pile had begun to smoke a little. It took a moment longer before she had some embers. She blew on them lightly and eventually managed to get a small fire going. She was pretty pleased with her efforts considering that she rarely ever had to start her own fires.

"I... see..." Camea worked her fingers against each other, interweaving them as she half-watched Kire as she attempted to start a flame. A spark flew, but nothing as of yet. However, a spark was all she would need. It was all she ever needed. A spark of thought, a twisted smile, and a devious plan could go a long way. Twenty eggs. Larger ones were given to weyrlings and riders, but there wasn't much she could do about that. They were housed in completely different locations. People would notice if a candidate was snooping around. But one "really big egg" went to a candidate? Well, wasn't that something? Stealing would be noticeable, though. There was no chance in such a plan. But maybe if she just happened to be around when it was hatching? No one could blame her for that.
"Excellent." The wher candidate congratulated her roommate at getting a fire started, staring into the tiny licks of flame with an expression of sheer anticipation. "Now... we just have to wait."
Myth twittered and landed on the ground near where Camea was kneeling. She stalked over slowly, but like a cat, then propped herself up onto Camea knee as she arched her neck to peer over at the eggs. When she saw once again that they hadn't hatched yet she snorted grumpily. Well, what kind of stupid eggs were these! They didn't even know they were in her glorious presence! Her tail flicked irritably as she climbed up the rest of the way onto Camea's lap and spun around a couple times before curling up in a resting position. One green eye peered up at her bonded in a not-so-innocent fashion as she tried to steal attention away from the eggs. They were useless lumps of rock! But Myth was here! Myth was real! And she was the most lovely!
Camea shooed the flit away and stood up to admire their handiwork. That should keep the eggs nice and warm, for sure. Myth squawks indignantly as she circled the room over and over again. Why didn't the two girls want to pay attention to her? She could fly! See? Much better than silly eggs that couldn't fly! But Camea paid her no mind, placing a hand on her hip and continuing to look down at the eggs.
"They should be turned every so often to keep them equally warm," Camea told Kire matter-of-factly, enjoying the time she had where she could flaunt her knowledge of flitter eggs to someone else. "And we should make sure the sand doesn't get too hot or too cold." She backed up toward the door and leaned with her back against the frame. A smile curled up on her face as she tilted her head at the sight of Kire and the bucket and the eggs. Well, she was sure that Kire would like to stay with them a bit longer. Silly girls with no flitters liked to do that sort of thing. But as far as Camea was concerned? Well, she'd rather have Kire look out for them. She'd do a good job, and Camea had better things to do with her time now that she was up and about.
"You want to take first watch? I have to attend to something..." She flashed Kire a bright grin as Myth landed on her shoulder and then, without waiting for a reply, she slipped out the door and into the hallway. Now... who was the candidate that had had that "really big egg" Kire was talking about?

Kire nodded and sat there looking at the eggs for a while. She wasn't too keen on leaving until she was certain that they were warm. She smiled at Camea as she was instructed on how to care for the eggs. Camea really was so smart. Sometimes Kire wished she knew as much as her roommate. At least they might have been able to go through Wherlingship together. That would be absolutely amazing! With their firelizards and Whers they would be a perfect team. Kire saluted a little to demonstrate she knew what was happening but more to show that she was serious about these eggs. Even though it had been in jest it was also an indication of her desire to follow others. Without someone telling her what to do she generally got lost.
It was then that she noticed Myth trying to get attention. She wanted to give the Flitt the attention she wanted but Kire also knew that paying attention the the instructions given were even more important. So she smiled at the Green and then looked back at Camea as the other girl decided to leave the room. Kire knew that there were now two little creatures counting on her and she had to protect them no matter what. "Yes, of course!"
But Camea had already gone and Kire was staring at the eggs intently, watching them closely, legs crossed and hands in her lap really and sincerely happy.
