Yalenia had some time to explore and observe her surroundings. She'd been in Telgar, the mountain Weyr as it were, for the majority of her time. This was quite different. The Spring breeze flew through her hair as she walked along the banks of the Lake. She'd never really had an urge to swim before. Sure, she knew how to but seeing the sun reflecting off the crystal clear water made her want to do something. And that something was swim. She walked into the water with all her clothes on and swam around in circles.
This continued for a few short minutes before she noticed something truly strange. She shrieked, probably the first time she had done so in some time, and pulled her feet up underneath her. She flailed a little and swam as quickly as she could away from the spot. She wasn't certain what had brushed past her, all she knew was that she didn't like the feel of it. She looked under the water and spotted a round, Pink bug looking thing.
She back paddled away from it, touched her feet to the bottom of the lake and looked into the water a little closer. "What the... Sharding..." She muttered. She shrieked again when it got a little closer to her and brushed past her leg. She ran out of the water and dropped to her knees. Now that initial shock had gone she was curious. She wanted to know what it was that she'd just run away from.

Abby had been running around the lake to get in some exercise when she heard a girl shriek. Pushing the little bit of hair that had fallen out of the pony-tail she'd swept it back in, she headed over in the direction. She hoped that it wasn't anything serious. Even if it were, it wasn't like she was scared or anything, she just knew that with this Weyr's history, it could be anything really. Finally reaching where the girl was, Abby skidded to a stop. Everything seemed to be okay.
"Hey, what's all the screaming about? Someone would think you're being hunted with all that noise." The wher candidate cocked her head a bit as Dusk squirmed around in her jacket. Popping his dusky gray head out the top, he peeked at the other girl. Squeaking, the firelizard ducked his head straight back in though. "Oh, not you too!" Shaking her head, Abby sat down on a rock nearby the girl. "So, what were you screaming about?" This time Abby's voice was softer, gentler.
The girl was no doubt unsettled by whatever made her scream. The best way to deal with her wasn't to be harsh, but gentle. It was just like with any young runner, and that thought made Abby smile to herself. Casting her gray eyes over the lake's surface, the candidate bit her lip. Everything seemed okay, well except for some ripples in the water. What had happened? Turning her attention back to the girl, Abby started talking again. "So, what's you name? I'm Abetzi, everyone calls me Abby though. I'm a wher candidate."

Yalenia was too focused on the creatures in the water that she didn't hear the call from the approaching girl. She spotted one of the giant bugs and, eyes just above the water, watched it closely. She was more than a little frustrated that she had gotten such a fright from creatures so obviously harmless. She watched them for a little while longer and then noticed the introduction. She turned her head and spotted another female. "Oh, Hi there!" She called back with a hearty laugh, "Sorry I was just looking at these creatures here. One brushed past my leg and unsettled me a little but, well, now that I can see them they're really very fascinating!"
She decided that she should probably properly greet the other girl and swam her way back to the shore. "You know how it is. When you don't see something it can be a little surprising." She continued. She kept her smile well maintained. The girl was some years younger than her but Yalenia was not one to talk down to someone. She held out a scarred hand to shake the girl's figuring this seemed the polite thing to do.
"Yalenia. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

What bug things..."Oh Faranth above!" Abby stared at the bugs as they popped along the surface of the lake. Sidling closer to the water, the candidate first let herself breath, and then smile. "They're so cute." Slowly settling down on the rock, her feet sliding softly into the lake, Abby watched the bugs. "They're...so big." Cute too, yes they were definitely cute, but Abby would be damned if she mentioned that again. Once was enough, twice though? Twice was just too, I'm going all gaga over these things. Much too girly of a reaction for Abetzi.
Dusk crooned as he watched the bugs slide in and out of the water's surface. They seemed like they wouldn't eat him....chirping, the black firelizard dove back into His' jacket to be safe though. Sighing, Abby reached toward the black to pull him out, but stopped herself. Probably better not to till she figured out just what these things were. Turning back to the other person instead, Abetzi nodded her head. "Once when I was working with my dad, one of the runnerbeasts had trotted up behind me. I wasn't paying attention and well, let's just say it wasn't my proudest moment." Honestly, the young colt had scared her when he whinied and she had jumped back, landing on her but pretty hard. Right in front of her dad and some of the traders he was selling to. They had laughed at her for days after that, the memory still made Abby blush and get angry at herself.
Shaking herself both physically and mentally, the candidate shook hands with the newly named Yalenia. "Please to make yours as well. So, what do you do around here? If you were any younger I'd maybe say you're a candidate...but I'm not sure. Never hurts to ask of course." Only to get it wrong right? Abby let her sentence finsh in her thoughts. Getting things wrong wasn't something that Abby liked much really. Though, the only thing that topped that, was not trying for something at all. That was something that the candidate couldn't handle. "So, how long have you been here?" No reason not to continue conversation right? Glancing back at the bugs that still were popping their heads up and down in the water, Abby couldn't help but smile at them. "What are those things anyway?"

Yalenia noticed the Black Flitt and figured that he must be one of the more timid Flitts. Or perhaps he was merely into self-preservation. She smiled at the little creature and looked back at the little creatures. They seemed to be bugs but were quite a bit larger. They were also rather adorable in a strange way. Fascinating certainly but also rather sweet. She laughed jovially at the anecdote imagining herself doing a similar thing. "Ah yes, those Runnerbeasts can be devious things at times." She stated cheerily.
She wiped her face of the water and processed the questions the girl was asking her. She couldn't help but chuckle a little. She seemed rather sweet and cheerful but apparently had a few things on her mind. "Woah, slow down there. I'm pretty young." She replied happily, "I'm actually here for the Whers. I'm also a Smith though and I decided to transfer from Telgar about a sevenday ago when I found out that there was a need for Handlers. I'm guessing that you are also a candidate."
It was becoming closer to evening and Yalenia had some time before her chores would begin. She'd woken earlier so as to have just a little bit of time to explore the Weyr a little. She was pleased that she had taken the chance to do so as she had managed to meet someone new. Now that she had answered the questions she felt that she could ask her own. "What's the name of your Flitt? He seems rather sweet." She asked gesturing to the lump under the jacket.
