It was a lovely day, the bright spring sun hung high in the sky, and the temperature was just warm enough that jackets were not needed, for the most part. There was even a slight breeze that ruffled the grasses of the Wyer bowl.
Ezekiel had just arrived, his eyes wide as he took in the sights. He had been told to go to the Candidates Barracks, and to check in. But of course, he hadn't. No, the young boy decided he wanted to give himself a tour. He wanted to look around. He loved the out doors, so the Wyer bowl was the best place to start in his mind. Ezekiel walked slowly, looking this way and that, trying to drink everything in.
It was huge! He really would have to walk around and look closer at another time. But his attention was one one thing. The lake. Ezekiel had seen lakes before. The Ocean to! But this was a dragon's lake. That, in his mind, was different. It was something he hadn't seen before. Ezekiel was still a kid, he still got excited over silly little things. So with his pack slung across his shoulders, he ran.
He ran as fast as he could to the edge of the lake, his sandals squishing in a delightful way across the bank. He wanted to feel that underfoot. So finding a rock, he placed his pack on the ground and pulled off the sandals. He thought about putting them in his pack, but they were crusted in mud, so he just set them aside. Leaving his pack and his sandals on the rock, he walked across the back. A shiver ran up his spine, a shiver of pure delight. Mud under foot was just such a fun feeling. It squelched with each step, thick and goopy, with small bugs running across his toes.
He wondered if they were allowed to go swimming. The water sparkled in the noonday light, colors blurring across the surface as dragons flew overhead. It was a perfect day. He had been searched, there was mud, and now there was the prospect of swimming. With a sigh, Ezekiel ran his fingers through his hair, tousling it lightly. Could it get any better?

Corian was cheerful this day. It was rarer to see the teen in any mood other than cheerful however it was rarer still to see him covered completely in mud and crawling along the banks of the lake. Actually, that wasn't necessarily a rare occasion at all. As it happened he was pretending to be a mighty thief hunter. There were some allegations that the boy was insane. There were more still that he didn't even have a mind. Regardless, his actions usually were cause for laughter and ridicule than concern as he never seemed to harm anyone except himself. He crawled through the mud attempting to blend in with the... mud... pretending that he was sneaking up on one of the thieving bandits. He didn't really look in front of him while he crawled and was slightly concerned that he would wind up with some sort of injury... Again... but that was half the fun really.
He stopped and pulled a short stick from his mud covered clothes and looked up a little recoiling slightly to see that he had crawled right up to the foot of someone. A young male for that matter. He jumped to his feet and brandished the stick harmlessly certain that he would have already been spotted prior to his great reveal. "Prepare to meet your maker scurvy thief. Haha. For there is none as awesome as the great hunter Corian. Surrender now!" He half shouted in utter glee.
He probably should have been acting more his own age but, as it happened... Here he was acting like a five year old with no grasp on reality. Still, the blond boy looked slightly younger than him... Probably only in looks than in actual actions. He jumped lightly on his feet displaying his years of training, or rather, his years of jumping around like his feet had caught fire. He must have looked a sight with mud all over his clothes, face and hair...

Ezekiel kicked a stone into the water, watching the ripples radiate from the bank. Was there anything as peaceful as a lake? There was even a waterfall to sooth him. But that calm atmosphere didn't last long. He had managed to miss the other boy, his excitement clouding him. Or perhaps it was his mud camouflage. Either way, Ezekiel was taken by surprise when he lept up, brandishing a stick in his direction. Ezekial paused for a moment, blinking with pure confusion.
Slowly, a wry grin crossed his lips and his brow furrowed. Ezekiel was a master of playing! He slipped into a low crouch, and laughed. “Haha! You think you can catch me, oh great hunter?” Ezekiel says, with a slight mocking tone in voice. “I think not!” With that said, he turned around and scampered off. He didn't go too far though, he stopped to look behind him, making sure that Corian was following. “No one can catch Ezekiel, Master Thief!!” He scooped up a small stick, getting his fingers all muddy in the process. Not like he minded.
He turned around and held out his stick like a sword. Now he was armed. He was ready to fight. The fight would be messy, in all this slippery mud. But there was still the lake, so he could clean off. Not like he needed to be clean or anything, not like it would be important for him to make a good impression on the Candidatemaster. That would just be silly.

Corian grinned stupidly as the other boy seemed slightly surprised by his sudden appearance. That wasn't all, he also seemed thoroughly willing to become covered in the mud by putting up with Corian's antics. Corian wondered why he hadn't met the younger boy before. Then again, Corian wasn't the foremost mind on actually remembering people let alone recognising them when they happened to be a master thief! Of course the boy, Ezekiel, wouldn't want Corian to know his real name. Ezekiel darted off through the mud attempting to lose Corian but he knew these banks well and was nimble on his feet.
This wasn't so much the case as Corian slipped and slid through the mud chasing after the boy laughing as he did so. "You will never escape! Ah! You wish to fight! You shall never best me!" He shouted. Corian lunged with his stick in a playful manner looking more like a performer than a candidate for a dragon. In all honesty, he would probably get into trouble for turning up for his chores covered head to toe in mud. Not that it mattered, so long as he was having fun. Corian wouldn't really aim to harm the Master Thief having learned first hand what damage that could do to someone. He would probably just try to disarm him and then march him to the dungeons!
Corian was concerned that time was getting away from him but he had come out here reasonably early before he was due to perform his duties so he assumed that he would be able to get back to the Weyr by the time he was required. Assumedly the Thief had things to do also so he would give up eventually. All Corian knew was that he would never give up not that easily!

Ezekial didn't try and hide his laughter as his opponent came up, covered in mud. Corian's movements caught him off guard and he slipped a bit, landing on his side in the mud. He didn't care though. He would clean his clothes later. He gropped around in the mud for his stick, finally pulling up the grime crusted impliment. Currently, he looked more mud than man.
“Oh don't be so confident Corian!” He chuckled, shaking his head. “For you see, I am a master!” With that he lunged and struck the other's stick lightly, not intending to hurt him or knock the stick from his hand. After that, he pulled in close to a guarding position. Blue eyes twinkled mischievously as he waited. This was too fun. He was sure he would have to stop playing when he became a candidate.
Technically, he should be meeting the candidatemaster. Technically, he should be putting his thjings in his room. But Ezekiel didn't really have a sense of responsibility. He did what he wanted when he wanted. It had been a long time since any one told him 'no' or 'he had to'. He had gotten too used to being free. Plus, he'd make up for it later. He was sure a wyer like this would need his oh-so helpful inventions.

Corian felt considerably more comfortable when the Thief fell also. They were at the same level which meant that they might be able to just get away with being late for anything. They could say that some thing happened and they were just trapped by a mudmonster. Some creature who would not allow them to pass back to the Weyr before they found for him a purely purple leaf. They could then tell the Candidatemaster that they had instead escaped as the mudmonster returned to the muck from which he had come. It was a believable occurance he was sure of it. Who could prove that there was no mudmonster. Why, Corian himself could be one.
The boy spoke then and Corian flashed a mischevious grin. "Haha, not so fast Master Thief, for I too am a master! Haha! We seem to be matched." He replied in hearty tones blocking at the last moment as Ezekiel lunged. He parried... More like struck back lightly hitting the stick jumping around in the mud and, rather predictably, slipping and landing flat on his face.
Generally Corian was better equipped to deal with this. Generally he was more agile on his feet and less likely to fall but at this moment Corian wasn't necessarily concentrating on his feet but rather the immense amount of fun he was having. He cared not for a bit of mud. As it happened he lifted his head and spat some mud from his mouth in a rather disgusted fashion but grabbed his stick and held it up in a block as he scrambled to get to his feet. "I meant to do that to get you off your guard, Haha!" He stated hastily jumping up and slipping a little once again.

Ezekiel didn't even think of making up a story. He was a boy. A young one like that. Mud was attracted to him like a lovesick wherry. He couldn't help but get covered in the stuff. His opponent’s comical actions made him laugh so hard he doubled over. Mud in the mouth? Gross. But also hilarious.
“Haha! I think that is a lie, good sir!” He chuckles, striking a pose. “You are not as sure footed as you say. So wallow there in the mud! It will make it easier for me to bury you!” Ezekiel got a bit too into character. He was not just Ezekiel. He was the Great Thief Ezekiel! Whispered about in all holds! The scourge of the land, and lover to all ladies! He was, simply put, amazing.
But he wasn't quite immune to being clumsy himself. He tried to go for the 'killing blow' but ended up tripping over his own feet and falling onto Corian. Unfortunately, with the momentum he had, he knocked them both into the shallows of the lake. Sputtering, Ez brushed strands of soaked blonde hair from his eyes and blinked a couple of times to get the water from them. “Oh... Um. Sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen.” A sheepish grin appears and he laughs softly. “Looks like I took us both down with that one.” He scratches the back of his neck a bit ashamed by his actions. He should be a bit more grown up than that. He was a candidate now.
Standing, he held out one hand to Corian. “My name's really Ezekiel by the way. I am still very very sorry for knocking you into the water.”

Corian was about to reply to the statement in indignation and move out of the wat of the Thief's stick but instead found himself slipping down the mud and into the lake. Corian landed on his stomach and then rolled onto his back laughing like a maniac. Well, it had been fun while it had lasted but he suspected that their fun would have to be over for the moment. Ezekiel the Thief seemed to be a little concerned that he was harmed. Corian got to his feet in the water and cheerily splashed his way towards the bank.
"No worries Master Thief I think we should call a truce on this one though." He replied laughing. So, he was really named Ezekiel. Well that was good because Corian wasn't exactly all that great with remembering names and usually called someone whatever they first introduced themselves as. 'Harper'... 'Dolphineer'... Whatever they said their profession was generally stuck with them. If someone introduced themselves sarcastically as something then he was more likely to remember that name than any other.
"I'm Corian. Cori, Cor, Get out of the Kitchen are also names I have been called at some point in my time at the Weyr." He replied taking Ezekiel's hand, "No trouble about the water either. It was a nice day for a swim." He wiped his face of some of the mud which had slowly begun to dry over his face.

Ezekiel slicked his wet hair back from his face and grinned. “Well it's a pleasure to meet you Corian.” He was pretty good with names. Even better with faces. You kind of had to be, when you were as social as Ezekiel was. He waded from the water and wrung out as much water as he could from his shirt. He looked to the skies again, watching dragons zip around, their riders charged with all sorts of jobs.
“They are beautiful.” He sighs softly, his voice full of wonderment. “Doesn't that just look fun? To zoom across the skies on dragon back. I hope I'll be able to impress when the next clutch hatches.” He wasn't sure when that would be though. He heard that a copper had a clutch last time, a batch of seriously angry dragonets. Ezekiel looked to Corian, trying to guess if he was a candidate as well.
Blue eyes flicked to the surrounding Wyer bowl though, and he shook himself a bit, droplets of water and clumps of mud flying everywhere. “So what kind of things do you all get to do here in the wyer?” He hoped it was fun. He hoped there were games, and events. He hoped it wasn't all work. Of course he knew being a dragonrider was a huge responsibility. He just hoped it wasn't boring.

Corian smiled and wiped a little more of the mud from his arms to almost no avail as it simply dried a little and left him with a scruffy, dirty appearance. He didn't mind too much though. The other boy looked not much better off. Only that he wasn't actually covered in mud like Corian. "Great to meet you too Ezekiel!" He replied Often people got sick of Corian after the first few minutes of having to deal with him. It was a wonder some of the dragons hadn't eaten him yet considering how he acted. Although, then again, he wouldn't know if they were laughing or about to set him on fire. Corian followed Ezekiel's line of vision skywards as he looked at the dragons flying overhead.
"They sure are. How anyone could want to live another life I don't know. My parents wanted me to be a Harper. Crazy right. I don't even care if I don't impress... It's just amazing simply being around them." He responded, "I mean usually, here at the Weyr we have to learn things about them and do chores. It's hard work but it's worth it!" Corian spoke more with his hands, waving them around energetically as he spoke gesturing back to the Weyr bowl and towards the sky. A couple of Pinks had flown over head at this moment.
"Oh!" Corian realised something, "You're new then?" Corian pulled a slightly worried face as he thought about this. Perhaps he shouldn't have held his new found friend up with his games... They were probably a few years apart but in mind just about everyone was older than Corian.

He shakes his head, watching as the clouds cover some of the sun's rays the bowl darkening for a few moments. “Not that crazy at all. Every one wanted me to be a Harper too. They say I sing well. But I don't know. I still have growing to do.” He shrugged a bit. “But it doesn't matter now, does it? I'm gonna be a DragonRider! I'm going to protect Pern.” Ezekiel had little doubt that he would Impress. Ezekiel was fairly self confident. He knew that someday, he would have a dragon too.
“I don't mind chores, really. I like being helpful. Having someone want me to help will be a nice change of pace.” He laughed a bit. “Usually people get frustrated when I try and help. I guess I tend to make things a bit more of a mess trying to make stuff to make their life easier.” He shrugs a bit, looking to the sky as the pinks few over. Pinks were pretty. So were blues, greens, browns, coppers, grays.. ect. Ect. He thought they were all just so pretty.
Looking back to Corian he grinned. “Yep. Just got dropped off. I had to do some exploring, I wanted to see my new home.” Ezekiel scratched the back of his neck a bit nervously. “I'm all kinds of jittery just thinking about my stay here. I bet it's going to be loads my exciting than just walking from hold to hold!”

Corian's mouth dropped open in a highly comical fashion when the other Harper turned Candidate confessed he too had been picked for... Singing... At the very thought of it Corian shuddered a little. But, here they both were, two peas in a pod waiting to be Dragonriders like all those people before them. Like those who were currently soaring overhead. How he envied, admired and feared those who had already impressed a dragon. He didn't care what colour he impressed so long as it was willing to cause havoc around the Weyr. He grinned a little at the thought of having a friend who could lift him into some of the higher rooms without a second thought so he could mess with people... Then again... That sort of behaviour would most likely result in never becoming a DragonRider.
He had to stay focused if he wanted to be a DragonRider... But then there were always things to distract him. Mud, Dirt, Sticks... Anything basically... He probably should have grown up by now but he figured that he'd have plenty of time to do that. Once he was a DragonRider he was certain that he would become the best in all of Pern and would protect everyone no matter what the cost.
"You'll have loads of fun here. Dalibor Weyr is the best! Although... I'm sure there are some others that are just as awesome. I've been here for a while now and they don't seem to get too upset even if you do accidentally colour everyone's clothes pink..." He responded. He looked about for a moment wondering whether he should lead Ezekiel to the Weyr so that he wouldn't be late to meet the candidate master. Perhaps he should have thought of this before. What would K'ber do...? Probably he wouldn't be out here covered in mud for starters. For another thing he'd probably be doing something that amounted to actually helping someone.

Ezekiel didn't mind the thought. He used to really want to be a Harper, well, before he got searched. Now he could be a Dragonrider. Perhaps he could still sing. Perhaps he would get a dragon who enjoyed his singing. That would be nice. “So. What do you think you'll impress?” Ezekiel thought over the dragon's colors, and what he had seen. What would fit him best? He mused over the idea.
Ezekiel was growing out of his troublemaker stage. He was not quite as interested int playing pranks as he used to be. He was maturing. He didn't quite need the attention that pranks gave him any more. He now had a purpose. He was going to be a dragonrider. “I think something like a Blue would be cool.” Of course, secretly like most boys, he though about having a Bronze or an Iron. But he really didn't think he was that much of a leader.
The day was starting to wear on, and he looked to his pile of stuff. “Hmm. I should get to the barracks soon. I don't want to be left with a crummy room.” He grinned a bit. “Hey, maybe we'll room near each other. Even if we don't, I bet we'll get to hang out a lot while doing chores and classes and stuff.” Ezekiel grinned a bit. He already considered Corian a friend.

As Ezekiel questioned what Corian thought he would impress he considered it too. He honestly wasn't sure what he would impress. He sure as anything wasn't up to King standard as much as he thought about it. He knew that he could never give orders but the respect would be certainly worth it. Despite all that he would be happy with anything. Having been already left on the sands and reaching an age where he might not be able to impress he would be happy with just about anything even it it was a mutated grey with purple spots and no tail. He wouldn't mind he just loved being around the creatures so much. He thought for a moment as Ezekiel continued to speak of getting a blue.
"Oh yeah, a blue would be awesome definitely!" Corian replied, "I also love the colour of some of the Cyans and things. I've heard that purples have a really playful personality they'd be so much fun!" He looked towards Ezekiel's things and smiled a little. It would be great if Ezekiel managed to get a room near him maybe they could do their chores together too. It would be nice hanging around with someone as fun as Ezekiel. "I can take you to the Barracks. I'll help you carry some stuff."
It was amusing that he was offering help as generally he wanted to cause as much trouble as possible but in this case he was just pleased to be here and excited to have met someone new who he would be able to spend time with. He always loved it when people could actually put up with his antics. Not that he really thought about it too much but he was so pleased that he had chosen to forgo getting prepared for his chores and come out here. Of course, he would need to get ready pretty quick but maybe he would be able to take Ezekiel to the Candidatemaster and then they could do chores together.

He nodded. “Blue is my favorite color. So I think it would be really amazing.” He doubted dragons took favorite colors into consideration when choosing their rider. But hey, he was cool with any color dragon. Hell. He wouldn't even care if he got a dragon meant for a girl! He laughed a bit at the mental image of him tending a queen. That would be silly.
At his offer, Ezekiel smiled enthusiastically. “Yea, I should probably put everything up. I don't want to get into too much trouble.” It would be good to get all his things packed away, so he could get to work. He wanted to prove himself. He wanted to be a good candidate so dragons would want him. He also just wanted to stop carrying his things around. There were several items of great importance in there.
Hefting his bag onto his shoulders, he motioned to Corian. “After you.” He wondered what his parents would say about him being a dragonrider. What would they have thought? He hoped they would be proud of him, and happy. Sure, it was dangerous. But it was good work. He was helping people. He was protecting people. He loved the idea of that. He wanted to make people happy.

Corian hurried after Ezekiel as the other boy grabbed his things and began leading the way to the Weyr. Corian hoped that his good efforts would be noticed but most importantly that Ezekiel wouldn't get into trouble or anything for not reporting straight to the CandidateMaster. He began to lead Ezekiel around the lake thinking about his own colour preferences. "I guess I like the colour yellow. Or maybe blue also. But I've already stood twice and not impressed both times... I think I'll be happy if a dragon even looks at me really." He smiled happily.
Although he had failed at the recent hatching he didn't really mind too much. He was still old enough to stand once more and, if worst came to worst, he could possibly offer his services to some of the DragonRiders and just attempt to assist them in any way possible. Although, generally, he was certain that he would wind up in the Lower Caverns as a staff member if he failed the impressing again. He sighed a little but pushed the thought from his mind figuring that it would be far better to think about the happier things. Like his new found friend.
"The last hatching was really..." He trailed off shaking his head a little. All those little creatures who had just died. They had disappeared so many of them even a Queen. The Queen had taken some of her sisters with her and then the Red. "It was surprising that was all. But, you know, life goes on and it's going to be weird not to have some of those people in the Candidate Barracks. We always get new people though!" He finished speaking on a cheerful note suppressing the other thoughts.

Blue seemed to be a theme with Ezekiel. The tunic-styled shirt he wore was a dark blue, as were the lacing of the sandals he carried in his hands. Around his neck was a thin hide throng that had several small stones, all in varying shades of blue hanging from it. “A yellow sounds pretty.” He was only guessing though. Ezekiel had never seen a yellow. He was sure he would now though.
“I know you will impress. I bet you'll get a good dragon too. You are a good person. There's no reason for them not to like you. The right one just hasn't come around yet.” Ezekiel was very sure of himself when he spoke, his voice light and full of laughter. Her was a true people person. Someone easy to talk to when there were problems, or you just needed to chat.
Corian's words made him frown a bit, and he shook his head. “That bad? I heard a few rumors when we visited a few holds.” She hook his head, tsking a few times. He was horrified when he first heard. He couldn't think of watching the dragons kill each other.
“But hey, I'm here now. We'll go to the next hatching and impress together!” Ezekiel was still young though, and he didn't expect to impress on his first hatching. He had many turns to go before he thought he would impress.
“What about firelizards. Do you have one of those? I want a whole little fleet of them! They just look so so fun.”

Corian smiled a little when Ezekiel expressed his faith in Corian impressing a dragon. It was certainly nice to hear that at least someone else thought he might be a decent addition to the ranks of Dragon Rider. He would have to become a little more assertive in future hatchings and be completely certain of what he wanted. It was the only way his dragon would know that His was strong. Ezekiel was right when he said that the right one must not have come along just yet. Corian's step became a little lighter and happier at the thought. He was sure that Ezekiel would impress something awesome. He seemed to be the type of person who everyone got along well with. That was not generally how people saw Corian. He tended to be more annoying to people than he realised.
Corian just nodded when Ezekiel asked about the hatching. He probably shouldn't have mentioned it, not to a new Candidate in such a way. Not when he rarely actually wanted to talk about it himself. Well, he knew that it happened but he'd never expected the death of a Queen... "Yeah! We can impress together and we can even train together! That would be great!" Corian responded with enthusiasm, "Firelizards? I've always thought about getting some but I dunno. I reckon that thirty would cause the Headwoman to pass out just about."
He chuckled a little at the thought of having thirty little firelizards running around his feet all of varying colours and sizes. He would certainly consider such a thought if he didn't impress. Of course, he would have to acquire them over an extended period of time. Sneak them into his room one at a time so that no one noticed him doing it.

Ezekiel was just a people person. He did his best to get along with every one. He wasn't really a fan of fights or huge drama issues. But he was there if people needed him. Either just to talk, or to be a shoulder to cry on. Ezekiel flicked a bit of mud from his bag, and looked to Corian for a moment. He didn't hear too much about the previous hatching, besides about the large amount of deaths. He didn't feel right just speaking of it lightly though. So many dragonets had not found their one. It saddened him a bit. But he pushed that to the back of his mind. No sense in being sad now. It was better to look to the future.
“I bet our dragons will be fast friends too! Then we can have races!” Ezekiel was already giddy at the thought of racing against Corian and his dragon. Just the idea of soaring through the skies on dragon back made his heart race. All this excitement had an effect though. His lisp was made a bit more prominent, and would stay as such until he calmed down.
“I want a whole thlew of firelithards! Then I can train them to do trickth and preform and thtuff!” He grinned, the ideas of little firelizards tumbling around would be awesome. Heck, if he didn't impress, he would do that! He could be the Great Ezekiel, and they would be his Fantastic Flitters! They would do shows, travel and trade, bringing smiles and merriment to everywhere they went.
That was a good plan. He decided he would keep that in mind. Mulling over all the possibilities. He would probably need lots of flitters though. And costumes. Yes. The plan was coming together.

Corian frowned a little as Ezekiel began to talk strangely. He wondered if it was something he did to be funny. Corian would have joined in but he decided against it. It was Ezekiel's thing, his joke so he wouldn't want to copy that. He would just have to think of something he could do that would be funny. Boy Ezekiel was already someone he knew he would have a lot of fun hanging around with. "Yeah! And maybe when we finish being Weyrlings we can be a part of the same Wing! We can fight Thread together! Save Pern. The Indestructible Duo!" He half shouted.
They were coming closer to the Weyr and the mud that had covered Corian's body had slowly begun to harden. It actually felt really weird with the mud caked onto his skin an in his hair. He wiped some of the dirt off himself as he walked trying to make himself look a little more presentable. Not that it really worked all that well only to make him look even more scruffy. "And we can have our firelithards perform for the whole entire Weyr."
Corian frowned. It just so happened that when he heard Ezekiel speaking in his weird way, with the lisp, he had gotten the word stuck in his head. He brushed it off correcting himself. He hoped Ezekiel wouldn't be upset about it. Corian hadn't meant to do it... "The firelizards can become friends too! We can travel the whole of Pern together!" He shook his head a little annoyed that he had copied Ezekiel without meaning to. He looked towards the Weyr Bowl always amazed by the look of it. It was simply a marvel that such a structure had been built. "So, where are you from?" He asked cheerfully.

He laughed. Today was a rather good day. He had got to the wyer, he was a candidate, he had seen dragons, and now he had a new friend. It just couldn't get any better. He couldn't help but be giddy and excited. The boy barely even noticed his shift in speech. Especially when Corian mentioned saving pern. “Yea! Every one will love uth! We'll be heroth! We'll be the talk of the holdth.” He could imagine it. He would know everyone, and everyone would know him. “No one will ever fear Thread again, becauthe we'll be there!” He had grand aspirations, that was for sure. He seemed to dream big, in every avenue of his life.
Ezekiel felt the mud on his own body begin to stiffen. It was highly uncomfortable. The skin felt tight, and he felt gross. He couldn't wait to soak into a hot bath and scrub the dirt from himself. That was the best part of getting dirty anyways, the bath afterward. He toyed with his bag a bit as he listened, but stopped when Corian said 'Firelithards'. He blinked slowly and turned to Corian.
The he burst out laughing.
“Oh Goth. Tho thorry Corian. I didn't know lithpth were contagiouth.” He had to hold his sides as he laughed, shaking his head. “It happenth when I get excited.” He wasn't quite sure how to explain it, but for his friend's sake, he did his best to calm down. He took a few deep breaths, and cleared his mind. He would eventually have to learn to control his excitement so that he didn't confuse or upset people. Once he felt he was calm enough to talk, he replied to Corian.
“Oh yea! It will be so fun! We'll be a good team. You, me, and a mass of firelizards!” He could see it now! They would be the talk of pern, of holds, of wyers! “We'll have to start looking for clutches! Then try to impress as many as we can. So when we can, we should try to find out who has gold ones, so we can watch them.” He wasn't quite sure how they would acquire firelizards. It would be easier if they were dragon riders, then they could get to the beaches and look.
“I'm kinda from all over. I was born in Paradise hold, but for most of my life I've been traveling with traders.”

Corian was concentrating on what Ezekiel was saying so as to not mistake his meaning a slight frown creasing his brow. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad being a Harper if he was able to travel around with a friend and incorporate firelizards into his performance. It was the first time he had really seriously considered buying a firelizard of his own. Corian stopped as soon as Ezekiel had and turned to look at him with some slight confusion. After just a moment Ezekiel had burst out laughing.
Corian wondered vaguely what had happened. Ezekiel had been messing with his bag for a slight moment maybe there had been something amusing about that. He started laughing a little too although he was still rather confused. Ezekiel began speaking again and explained that he had a lisp. Corian thought he'd heard something about that when he'd been younger.
"Oh, I'm sorry Ezekiel I didn't mean to copy you. It was just something that slipped out." He replied happily, "And we could definitely talk to some of the other candidates about their firelizards! I'm sure they'd be happy to give us one each."
When Ezekiel mentioned that he was from all over Corian wondered what that would have been like. He'd grown up around Benden Weyr so he had hardly seen any other parts of Pern. Sometimes he hoped he would get a dragon who would become a search dragon so that he would be able to see other parts of Pern.
"Other than when I went to Harperhall I've always been in a weyr just about. My parents were Harpers at Benden Weyr."

Ezekiel shrugged a bit, grinning at Corain. “Calm down. I don't mind if you copy me! It's not like I invented it!” He reached over to pat Corian on the back shaking his head. “You worry a bit too much about what you say.” He couldn't help but laugh. “If you continue like that, you will get old fast!” Grabbing Corain's hand, he tugs him towards the barracks. “Come on. Let's run!”
Letting go, Ezekiel bolted forward as fast as he could, though he faltered a bit, clumsy and still unused to his slightly gangly form. His laughter filled the air, light and bubbly. He still was a child. Plain and simple. It was easy to see that the darker events of his past had effected him, but in a good way. He was stronger. He enjoyed every day like it was his last.
As he ran, mud flaked off of him and his hair fluttered. He paused to turn to see if his new friend was following, shooting Corian a mischievous grin and waving one hand over his head. “Hey slowpoke! Hurry up!” He chuckled a bit, brushing hair from his face. Sometimes he couldn't help but be a troublesome little imp. Turning, he bolted into the Barracks, peeking outside to see if Corian caught up.

The problem was, Corian rarely worried about what he said. It just so happened that he now considered Ezekiel a friend and that seemed to be something he was short on. Not that he worried too much about it. His mind was his friend anyway. It had served him well. He smiled happily again and had a renewed skip to his step as he wandered along beside Ezekiel. Then Ezekiel suggested running. Corian was caught off guard for the moment but laughed and darted after Ezekiel. He slipped at one point but dragged himself to his feet again seeing that Ezekiel had just about already reached the barracks.
"No fair! You started too early." Corian half shouted amidst the laughter he was struggling to contain. He thought he saw Ezekiel somewhere in the Barracks watching him so he dodged to the side of the door wondering whether Ezekiel had seen him. He'd get one back now. It wouldn't be that hard really. All he would have to do is wait until Ezekiel poked his head out the door looking for him. Of course, Ezekiel might very well have had the exact same idea. Given that his face was covered in mud any other candidate would probably faint at the sight of him. Particularly if they both happened to be dragging mud through the Barracks. Come to think about it he was probably supposed to be clearing out the Barracks at some point... Keeping his room tidy and all that.
He pressed against the wall listening and watching for any sign that Ezekiel was about to walk out and look for him. Corian could be a little competitive sometimes...

Ezekiel considered Corian a friend. His first friend! That was a coveted spot in Ez's mind. Because honestly, who wouldn't want to be his friend? Ezekiel was awesome! Truthfully, he didn't mind. Ezekiel was used to people laughing at his lisp. Shards. He laughed at it. It really did sound funny when you thought about it. Ezekiel was already excited for the future. He was already excited for the two to be weyrling buddies, though he wasn't even sure they would impress together.
Ezekiel pressed his hands against his mouth, doing his best to stile his giggles. It was really hard. “I'm smaller! I get a head start because you got those long long legs!” He called from the doorway. He didn't think that through though. He had given away his position. Ezekiel waited. Surely Corian would be there soon. But Ez' thought he heard him slip. Did he?
A bit of worry flooded Ezekiel. Did he cause his new friend to get hurt? His mirhtful expression was struck down instantly. A look of concern quickly appeared and he bit his bottom lip. Slowly, he counted to ten. Still no Corian. Hesitantly, he peeked around the corner. “Cor?” He called, his voice fraught with a bit of worry. What kind of friend would he be if he caused his friend to get hurt? What would the Candidatemaster say? And after tracking in all that mud! Ezekiel was more mud than boy. A variable mud monster. Surely, this day would not end well. “Cor? Are you ok?” He called once more, moving to stand in the doorway.
