Fel was barely there a moment when she felt something being pushed into her arms and a shriek. Hands closed around the slightly gooey and soft form of a firelizard. The firelizard crooned softly to her and the other three landed on her shoulders and head to take in the new form. A flurry of images from Coral informed her that the new firelizard was a pink. Another pink to add to their little family. There were now three and poor little Moss all alone as the only green. Then again, Dhanuth was the only male out of all her bonded creatures… Although Ash was also a male. Fel decided not to dwell on those semantics and merely smiled at Ni’on’s statement.
Some meat was pressed into her hands which she promptly began feeding the pink as best she could, fending off Megatron as the much larger pink attempted to steal scraps. Of course, she knew it was Megatron for only that firelizard would attempt to take food from one of the other firelizards. A voice made her stiffen and she almost crushed the infant firelizard as she listened, a dark expression marring what parts of her face could be seen. Low rumbling growls entered her mind and she could hear both dragon and firelizards reacting to the presence of Q’sis.
I could. I know I could.
Fel didn’t need to ask what Dhanuth could do. She already knew. Softly, she shook her head and stroked the new pink. Time. The pink, with tiny claws, stroked Fel’s arm back with much care and love. Fel wasn’t sure what she should call her just yet. Some of the other firelizards… Their names had just come to her! For a while she stood there in silence, thinking. “Strummer is a good name,” She responded to Ni’on upon hearing the cyanrider’s suggestion, “Mine will be called… Flower.” Unoriginal but she was pink like Coral but not quite like Coral...

‘He’d take his chances.’ V’yeri should have known better than to say such things by then; it only ever seemed to tempt fate, and fate was evidently not very good at resisting temptation where he was concerned. He had just enough time to hear the sudden chirp, look up, and endure a second of horrifying recognition before being sucked back into that dark, slimy abyss that he remembered all too well from his nightmares. Oh shells. This time he at least had the presence of mind to hold still rather than flounder like a headless wherry and pound uselessly against the wicked teeth. Still, he could feel the same swell of panic as before, but this time something gave him cause to fight it back as best he could—they said that young dragons were particularly sensitive to strong emotions, and could even be driven between if they were confused and scared enough. Well he certainly didn’t want to be swallowed or bit in two, but shard it if he was going to let Vespasiath feel the full brunt of those fears because he couldn’t keep a grip on himself.
His uncharacteristically unselfish behavior wasn’t going to be much use for long, however, since there was soon a quick flash of light, and a compounded sense of panic that for once hadn’t come from V’yeri. YOU WILL PUT ME DOWN, I DO NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL! V’YERI, V’YERI MAKE HER PUT US DOWN. MAKE HER PUT US DOWN AT ONCE! V’yeri attempted to squirm his way through the horrifyingly squishy walls pressing in on him toward his dragon, somehow managing to get a hand on some part of the viridian’s hide. Don’t worry, it’s—it’s horrible, I know, but—augh! We’ll be fine! I’ve done this before!
Vespasiath began to lash out with every one of his limbs, baby paws scrabbling in futile punches at the inside of Mith’s mouth. If this is a hobby of yours, I do not approve and I also do not wish to be dragged into it! It is not PROPER. At all! And then, as suddenly as they had been scooped up, the jaws opened to dump the pair in…the entrance to the dining hall? V’yeri breathed a shuddering sigh of relief, peeling his black coat back from the second layer of skin his clothes had become, and tried in vain to find a dry spot he could wipe his face on. Vespasiath hit the ground running, or as near to it as he could manage, since he landed on his side—scrambling to get his feet under him and put a good safe distance between himself and the looming tan head. Realizing that his rider had not accompanied him, he deftly trotted back, fixed his teeth as gently and firmly as he could manage at once on V’yeri’s arm, and began all but dragging him backward.
“Firelizards…?” he muttered, following his dragon’s lead with near-dazed steps. They’d survived, again. Somehow. But what in Faranth’s name did firelizards have to do with it? It was hardly a suitable justification for the ordeal he and Vespasiath had just suffered. But he supposed it was still more of a reason than he’d got the last time it had happened. Vespasiath unintentionally gave his arm a harder tug, and he was snapped that much back into reality as the teeth just nicked his arm. Oh, there were people around. “Oh, uh, fine, yeah. We are. Both of us. I think,” he muttered to T’von. He squinted back toward the tan, who suddenly seemed to be upset, and oh look, Mr. Stabby Knives was there too. His favorite person. Maybe he and the mostly-pleasant-but-utterly-ineffectual girl paired with the tan were telling her off or something. V’yeri blinked in confusion for a moment when he started going on about those sharding firelizards too, whatever that meant, but today he was in no mood to argue. He just wanted to get out of this madhouse. So he and Vespasiath kept right on going into the dining hall, and found…another madhouse, apparently—people were absolutely everywhere, all in a big swarm around something he couldn’t see. He really just wanted to go wash off and then spend the next week hiding in the barracks where the tans (hopefully) couldn’t get him, but he also had the suspicion that if Mith figured out he hadn’t gone and seen ‘firelizards’ like she’d told him, she’d nearly eat him again as punishment. So he moved toward the back of the group, hoping no one would think to look behind them in all the excitement.
-----
Taza was not a particularly pushy person, and unfortunately for her, this seemed like the sort of event that favored the pushy. She had thus ended up decidedly toward the back of the cluster of flitter-seekers, leaning a bit this way and that in an effort to find a big enough gap in heads and shoulders for her to see the eggs. A few did seem to have hatched—she spotted a blue with a girl beside a very large egg, and the girl who’d brought the eggs in the first place had apparently shoved a curious pink at the nearest person. She wished she could at least see a little better—even if she wasn’t likely to get one, it would still really be something to see a whole clutch of firelizards hatch.
She turned as a familiar voice came from very nearby, a hesitant smile taking hold. It took a second, but she took the offered meatroll. “Thanks. I’m not sure I’ll get a chance to use it, though—there’s so many people here. I guess I wasn’t fast enough.” She tried to stretch up taller as someone in front of her shifted their weight, inadvertently blocking off her little window into the world of the hatching firelizards. “I guess nothing’ll bring people running quicker than yelling ‘free firelizards’ though, right? Giving away firelizards—only in a weyr.”
She wasn’t sure if talking might be bad for getting a firelizard to come to her—maybe they liked people who were focused on them?—but Taza didn’t have much choice. She had the strong feeling that things would get awkward if more than a few seconds passed between her and Calmere without one of them talking, especially with his hand on her waist like that, standing so close. It wasn’t bad—it might have felt almost back to normal if it wasn’t for the fact that it used to be easy and relaxed, while now she felt a pressure to keep it from dissolving into awkwardness, as if that would be proof that things were hopelessly changed between them. The fact that this new pressure was a change in itself was mostly lost on her. “Oh, um, but don’t you want one too? We could probably split the meatroll; most of the firelizards seem pretty small.”

{I promise that O’hu and I will be good,} Polyth responded with a happy trill. He respected the cheerful green as their leader. He wouldn’t have gone behind her back to get a fire-lizard if she had not given her blessing. He not only respected the green but he liked her as well because she, unlike his clutch-mates, had shown such concern for him after he’d finally broken free from his shell. {Would you wish for an egg, Ablath? I could ask O’hu to bring you one.} The brown asked before relaying to O’hu, {Ablath says we may get an egg.} {Oh good!} O’hu said, {More hide to clean!} {Only a little more.}
O’hu glanced back at the eggs as excitement seemed to pulse through the crowd. The Queen egg was stirring! It fell on its side and that side burst open to reveal a shining copper wing. {I think it is a copper,} O’hu said to Polyth. Not a gold but a copper. He was sure that some people were hoping for a gold but then a copper will still a Queen. The Weyr was led by a copper rider after all! {Yes,} Polyth said almost uninterestedly, {Look there! That black is almost out of his egg. You should go help him.} {I think he is doing just fine,} O’hu said the black didn’t seem distressed like Polyth had. {You like blacks?} O’hu asked curiously, {I miss the company of that little black.} O’hu smiled to himself. His brown had taken such a shine to Tedaon’s Neras.
“Oh…um…” O’hu said turning to look back at M’iles and Th’or. He was not sure they cared really but he felt that they should know. “Ah…Ablath told Polyth that it is okay for us to get fire-lizards.” He looked mildly embarrassed for having interrupted the brothers’ conversation. He laid his hand on Polyth’s head and looked back towards the hatching eggs.

Frayya cringed away as the pink launched herself into the air. It wasn’t that she had anything against pinks but she did have something against a baby with sharp claws jumping through the air. The pink landed harmlessly on the clutch owner’s arms although the woman reacted as if it was anything but a harmful landing. She ripped the creature off her arm and shoved it at an injured woman. She shot a glance at the candidate standing next to her. Her earlier comment was proven true by the woman’s determined rejection of the baby fire-lizard. She obviously didn’t want any more of the pesky creatures. ‘More for the rest of us,’ Frayya thought to herself although she did not want more than one. One would be useful, more was just a thorn in her side.
Frayya’s thoughts cut off quickly as the gold egg started to shake. It was starting to hatch. She leaned forward on her toes hoping that the gold would come to here. The Master Weavers would have to take her seriously then! A gold might just be her ticket back to the Weaver Crafthall. She wanted to go back more than anything. The egg tipped over breaking one of the eggs side. She waited with baited breath as a wing tip emerged but it wasn’t a gold. The glistening wing was irrefutably copper. She felt her hopes sink. A copper might still be a Queen but it wasn’t a Golden Queen. This Weyr might be strange and have a Copper rider as a Weyrwoman but the Weaver Crafthall’s beholden Weyr held proper standards. Despite her disappointment though, she still thought that a copper queen would be better than some pint-sized green.

The copper wing remained posed for a moment longer, before retracting within the egg once again. The black flitter, now fully escaped from his egg, paused in his examination of his own newborn self to watch with interest. A second later, the rest of the golden egg cracked neatly in half, falling apart around the tiny, incredibly shiny copper. She flicked her wings out artfully, and withdrew them again, settling herself in the midst of the still-hatching eggs like the tiny queen she was, gazing upon the crowd, all watching her in, she knew, awe – as was proper. The black, however, made a rude noise at her. She hissed him back, the hiss echoed by Idunn, hovering about above her copper daughter, at the disrespect to the new queen. The black repeated his rude noise, louder this time, and turned his back, flicking his tail dismissively. The copper gathered herself up, more than ready to teach the little upstart a lesson…and got blocked by Hati, who firmly bonked her back down amongst the eggs. The copper looked to her mother in protest of this treatment, but Idunn knew who was boss, and looked away. Hati, making little amused sounds, then walked over to give the little black a nudge into the crowd. The black nudged her back – this green was his type of flitter! Bossing around queens, shucking the standards of “proper order” – he squeaked at her, and she murbled back, mentally pressing him to Impress. He balked a little, but she insisted, and he whipped his head around to view the crowd. He wasn’t too sold on the idea, honestly. Why Impress when he could be a wild flitter, doing what he wanted, when he wanted? None of these people seemed all that…wait, he took it back. That one, RIGHT THERE, was the reason he was going to stick around. Jumping recklessly to the floor, the little black sauntered through the crowd, and equally casually sauntered his way right up O’hu’s leg and to his shoulder. O’hu Hex Code: 060606 Inspiration: Reckless Rebel Irritated, the copper squawked, and reared up, smashing, one by one, into the eggs around her, splitting the rocking shells open and spilling their surprised occupants into the sand-filled basket. Two blues, a green and a very confused purple found themselves suddenly exposed to the light and noise of the dining hall, a little earlier than expected. The copper hissed at them, scattering them away from her. The purple plowed into the pink that had earlier been working her way out of her egg, the larger male effectively tripping over the tiny pink, who was huddled up, patting obscure designs into the sands with intense focus. The purple chirped at her – hey, what was a pretty thing like her doing all alone? – but the pink only warbled distractedly as she moved a tiny rock into just the right position to complete her art. Which the copper then cruelly swiped her tail through, having stalked up to see exactly what was so distracting. The purple chirped a protest as the pink drooped mournfully at the loss of her art, but the copper just stalked to the next table, hoping over to it and striding regally down the length of it. The purple gathered up the pink, herding her with him in the other direction, along another table, over two innocent bystanders, until they both ended up on Veritka’s shoulder. The purple knocked the pink into Veritka’s lap, then gave the human a stern glare – better take care of his sister! – before leaping into the air and circling the crowd. The pink, pulled from her mourning, looked into Veritka’s face and squeaked in joy. Oh, she maybe hadn’t made this person, but he was hers now, and he was the best art of all! Veritka Hex Code: c3188e Inspiration: Distracted Artist The two blues had slunk off together once the copper left, chittering conspiringly to each other. One, with his folded wings edged in a color with a distinct purple tint, suddenly recoiled in offense at something his brother had said, hissing dramatically and turning away, forsaking his brother forever! UNFORGIVABLE! His brother, light colored and specked with an even paler shade, watched him go in utter confusion. What in the world had prompted that? Still, thought regretful, he wrote it off as a loss, and continued into the crowd. He had plans, you see, great plans. And he needed the right people to make his plans come true. Loyal people…strong loyal people. Something in the crowd caught his attention, and he sat up on his haunches for a better look. Hey. That looked strong. It was also quite an appropriate blue color. He leaped from the table to his target, landing on Ask’s back and examining the wher with interest. This thing was pretty good! It would be fantastic – and sure enough, it had another loyal thing already. Perfect. From Ask’s back, the blue flitter looked up and Andru and squeaked, opening his mouth. Time for food, and then on to the plans. Andru Hex Code: 5ccbec Inspiration: Ambitious Mob Boss I AM SORRY YOU ENDED UP WITH THE MORE FOCUSED BLUE VERSION OF HATI, EXCEPT NOT BECAUSE HILARITY His brother, meanwhile, had flung himself into another direction, coincidentally right off the table. He had to collect himself, and then he hissed at the table too. It was so mean to him! He staggered into the forest of ankle and feet, tail and wings dragging as he forced himself to walk on, despite everything working against him! His life, short as it had been so far, was a trial, an unbelievable trial! Finally, he collapsed against a specific foot, looking upwards at his savior. He pawed at Kelsira’s ankle, begging her to lift him up and away from the horrors of the world, and fill the aching void inside him with her love and also her food. Kelsira Hex Code: 519dda Inspiration: Hilariously Overdramatic The green who’d been knocked from her egg, had…not moved. She’d curled up into a slightly more comfortable position and then stared with laser focus into the crowd – she knew who she wanted…but she was so far away. And walking was way, way too much effort. Flying was worse. Maybe she could summon Hers through sheer force of will? Garm scooted in through the eggs and craned his neck down to poke at her, making sure she was okay – she was, she was, just…not ready to put in that much effort. Hey, he wouldn’t be willing to carry her, would he? Hers was just over there… Garm, it turned out, was. Awkwardly and carefully hoisting the green in his mouth, he took to the air – luckily he didn’t have far to go, and she was very small – and landed on Frayya’s shoulder. He wiggled the green at her, forcing her to take the hatchling from him. The green, meanwhile, was gazing up at Frayya, pleased beyond all measure. Yes, this was Hers. She made the effort to spread her actually quite lovely wings and preen a bit for the sake of her new person; Frayya would see that she was just as good as any queen, and easily twice as useful – once she was feeling a little less lethargic. Frayya Hex Code: 5ab42e Inspiration: Shikamaru Lazy, but Brilliant (She is incredibly smart for a firelizard, and especially so for a green.) The purple, by now, had finally spotted something interesting – and offending. He dropped like a rock, landing hard on Calmere’s shoulder. He looked pointedly at the hand on Taza’s waist, and, when his look wasn’t getting a reaction fast enough, darted in and clamped his teeth around Calmere’s nose, hard. Hands off his woman! That done, the purple made the jump to Taza’s shoulders, immediately winding himself into her hair and crooning sweet nothings into her ear. He was here, now, for his beautiful His, and he’d always make sure to keep the chumps away from his number one lady. He was the only man for her, after all. Taza Hex Code: 7a3789 Inspiration: Romatic, Possessive and Protective. Also a greaser but that is just my lol talkingWith the copper still walking the tables – beware to any that tried to get to close to her without invitation! – and more eggs cracking even now, it wouldn’t be long before the next flitter made Impression.

Naraevhyn smiled warmly as the little green booped her nose and demanded food, quickly sending Ranulf to get some scraps. Kraka peered intently at the baby green as Ranulf came back with several scraps. The blue popped them into his mouth and started to pre-chew them for the green, his paternal nature kicking in. He started to feed the green himself, but Nara stopped him.
"No, Ranulf," she said gently. "You chew, I feed, remember?" She gave Ranulf images of Kraka's Impression. Ranulf chirped in concession, sitting back to chew up all the scraps he had. The Green took the food from Nara and nearly inhaled it, deciding that this person was definitely hers. Impression made, Nara smiled. Ranulf scurried down to nose the Green, quite pleased to have a new hatchling in the fair. He checked her over, making sure she was perfect. Nara watched him, her trained eye checking over the hatchling's hide as well.
Do we have a friend?! Simhath butted in excitedly, trying to see through her rider's eyes.
Yes, sweetling. A beautiful Green. Nara sent back an image of the Green in her hands. Outside, Simhath let out a high-pitched trill of joy.
SHE'S PRETTY! Simhath cheered. Nara giggled. The Green warbled and chirped at Nara in curiosity. Kraka squawked at her, causing the Green to puff up. She tackled Kraka, moving at a quick pace, chittering at him. Kraka hissed at her. The Green scurried up onto Nara's head and squalled demandingly, wanting more food. Nara chuckled and offered her more food.
"I think I'll call you Innorvi," Nara murmured, reaching up to pick the Green off her head. Innorvi chirped again, and Nara settled in to feed the Green her fill.

Yrri did not need another flit, but.. It didn't hurt to try. Surely between all the others present, she would not be chosen.
So in came the tom-boy, hair messy as ever, tunic as 're-stitched' as a girl without real sewing lessons might create. A deep blue-black dragonet stalked close to His's heels, tongue flicking to taste the air. Every so often, Yrri stuck her hand down at her side to check if Perith was still near. He was, and reminded His of that with a tender lick to that hand and a nuzzle.
With a smile, she watched the eggs hatch, deep in thought. If human or critter were to come up to her, it might very well scare her! But so many little impressions! It was darling, even to the boyish girl and hatchling blue.
(I know, short shiiiit, but I will edit more in if need be. Tired and ickyyy so this is the best i got right now!! I'll fix it, promise and swear!)

Flit babies were too cute. Laurierd had a bit of trouble to keep herself contained as more and more eggs hatched. She wanted to hug them all. Why were baby animals so goshdarn sweet? Even Lauriesk had been outright adorable as a baby wherlet, with her disproportionately long tail and huge jaws. Of course, Lauriesk was still adorable, like when she slept in front of Laurierd's bed or at her feet during winter months when it was cold, but she was too big to carry. Laurierd wanted to have a small pet she could carry around. A small, big-eared dog maybe, if she couldn't impress a flit.
Lauriesk watched. She lay next to the fireplace, where it was most comfortable and watched the whole congregation in the dining hall. Only her rarely-blinking eyes move, scanning for threats and trouble. Naisk, Mysk and Ask got an extra look and a neutral snort as a fellow wher, but for the most part the crowd wasn't very interesting. There was one of the little people she and Laury had seen in the caves a little while ago, but then someone picked her up. That wouldn't be a threat unless the man made motions of trying to throw the little girl at Laury. Wait. They were passing scraps of meat around. Lauriesk stretched and opened her jaw. Treat. Like treat.
Laurierd was absent-mindedly handing her wher a bit of meat, as a blue flitter landed on her. The cute little blue that had helped its siblings! She withdrew her hand quickly, and gave the blue the scrap. "Ooooh, look! Lauriesk darling!" Laurierd's other hand was on her mouth and she was grinning wide. Her second impression ever! She had attended countless flit hatchings and now this little fellow had actually become her pet! He was so pretty, too. Darkish blue, definitely nice. "Isn't he just the cutest? Look," she continued and petted gently the flit's back, which made him stretch and chirp.
Lauriesk was slightly irritated. She had wanted that treat. On the other hand, it was only a little a bit of meat, whatever. The flit wasn't that interesting, either. What did they even do besides chirp and fly around?
The blue lifted his head. His person's gatorthing wanted something, clearly. She looked like she needed something. The blue liked meat. It tasted good and it was nice and filling. Clearly, there was only one thing to do. He jumped on Laurierd's shoulder and over people until he found a shoulder, which was attached to an arm, which was attached to a lot of meat. Gatorthing was big so she needed lots of meat. Quick as a blue flash, the flit gathered as many scraps as he could stuff into his jaws and on his back, and back he went, dropping only a few bits of meat here and there. Most of it he dropped in front of Lauriesk. He looked at the green and trilled. She should eat, too! Meat was too good not to be shared.
Laurierd grinned. "See, he's not so bad, is he? I think you two will be the best of friends!" Lauriesk gobbled down the scraps in one gulp, and snorted. Hmff. Maybe potential. Blue hamslice weak, she added in an almost affectionate tone, and nudged the newly christened Hamslice under her chin, between her paws, where he curled up for a contented nap.

"Your mischief could have cost the dragon," Q'sis snarled. "You remember what the normal ones do when they're spooked, do you not?" Their tans of course would never manage enough instinct to get spooked, but given that Valha's was perpetually the more anxious of the two, he thought the girl might see better than she did. "Between!" he blared, attenuating the word mentally before either twin got any ideas. "Keep behaving like a wherry and I'll take her from you till you've proved yourself better."
A bold threat, considering he had experimented no more with assuming Mith than Valha had with his Unath. But he would always have the closer, clearer thoughts. Mith had come to him on her own, after all. And Valha had the fuzz of flits to pester her signal. "The lad might be benighted, but he doesn't deserve you tearing his heart away for laughs. And this Weyr cannot afford losses."
He had more outrage in his docket, but time spent in proximity with the other twinrider, and with her dragon so newly calmed by both their hands, stilled it before its birth. As Mith unclenched from her huddle, his fingers stopped and his eyelids drooped, shoulders settling back. "Queen eggs are beyond valuable," he noted, watching Valha from the corner of a weary eye. "Any fancy you'd have wanted for your weyr, you could have had. You could have gone straight to one of the main Halls in the North. The Masterharper would have done you a mural for the Marks you'd have."
Unath ducked her head and tried to poke it in aside Mith's, but there was insufficient room. So the twins' hydra was of one head and one grunting snout. "The bigger of the lesser ones would fetch a pretty too, for Holders' sons that want to try their hands for bronzes. What's left you could have left on the beach. Your queen would still mind them, as wilds do."
Unath's nostrils puffed, a sharp jet of wind interrupting Q'sis' advice. He looked over at her, then waved her out of the tunnel exit. Though Unath surely could not see the dull flash of his callused palm, her nose tugged back out. "Mith," Q'sis said, and walked out into the Bowl, trailing his hand along the pale dragon's side.

Meena was about to enter the dining hall when someone rushed by her with a basket. Eager to see what was going on, hurried after them, arriving just in time to hear that firelizards were being hatched.
Firelizards, Meena knew, were like tiny dragons. Yrri had a couple, and while they were no substitute for having a real dragon, any pet that she could love and care for was good in Meena's book. And of course, miniature dragons were always welcome.
The rumor that they were just giving the firelizards away passed Meena's ears, and she began to push to the front of the crowd. Firelizards! Oh, they were so adorable, and she wanted one, yes she did. Sure she already had Ava, but Ava was a puppy, and besides, Ava was her only pet. When she was away from her room -- like she was now -- Ava was left all alone, and it would be nice, she thought, to get Ava a companion. Meena watched the eggs intently, wondering which (there were so many!) would hatch next.

The one downside to being on Th'or's shoulder was that, well, she was noticeable. Partly because she was up high and he was a big man, and partly because he was really loud. In fact, it was a considerable detraction from the pleasure of the baby flitters and having a dragonet next to her. Also, she was up really high, which was something that she had very rarely been, and she rather liked it! But she didn't like the huge, boom voice that would surely attract attention...
Of course, she ignored that most of the attention right now, from anyone at all, was directed squarely at all of the flitters erupting from the eggs. And especially, of course, at the Queen egg. And not at either the loud and happy Pink that was loving in only the way that Pinks could be; or at the equally loud, tall, happy and...the only way that she could describe it was that he took up space far larger than he actually occupied.
She almost fell off of his shoulder when another man walked up, with a Blue, and called her a Weyrbrat. She was not a Weyrbrat! She thought of how hard she it was to talk to Audren about becoming a Candidate for Wherlings, getting rejected, and then talking to Atenna in order to become an apprentice. Partially so that she wouldn't just be a Weyrbrat. She, suddenly, abruptly, she was angry. “I am not a Weyrbrat, I am an apprentice, use your eyes!” She pointed violently at the cords on her shoulder that marked her as such...
And then she realized what she'd done, and her eyes went big and wide and horrified. And, a few seconds later, she was back to her usual self. She flushed so scarlet at making a scene in public she might have been confused for a Red, and she ducked behind Th'or's big head so that M'iles couldn't see her. “I-I'm sorry! I-I did-didn't mean it!” She'd just gotten so enraged for a moment over being mistaken for the thing that she didn't want to be, at all, ever. She'd totally forgotten herself. Oh, how her mother would be laughing right now.
...actually, her mother just wouldn't care. The thought cut through anger, embarrassment, joy, and every other emotion. Her mother never cared. Never would, unless she took to the skies on a dragon. And she didn't ever want to do that. So...so in her eyes, even her own daughter was simply dirt to be swept into a corner. Perhaps she'd laugh because her lowest-of-the-low daughter had embarrassed herself. But more likely, it would be a wall of apathy.
It was hard, getting excited again after that. Easier, as the first Copper flit she'd ever seen erupted from the egg, but still not something that came as easily as she would have thought. The antics of many of the flitters, however, brought a smile back to her face, but her eyes weren't laughing, no matter what her mouth was doing.

They were all lovely, G'dan noted with a quietly delighted smile. He did like seeing hatchlings, firelizards and dragons alike, their personalities so vibrant even newly-hatched. Seeking familiar faces amongst the crowd - gulp, now that he was looking, there were a lot of faces in this crowd, not inside his comfort zone at all - he edged his way to one that he recognized as having been in his weyrling class.
"Congratulations," he offered to Naraevhyn, looking at the firelizard without pressing too close. Close would be bad, he didn't want to spook the little one. A green, with a rich-hued hide, who seemed quite happy to get as close to her new owner as possible. "She's... she's lovely." He cut himself off from saying more, because like as not he'd somehow make a fool of himself.
The copper's progress caught his eye, and he actually cringed as she set about smashing some of the eggs - what if she hurt the hatchlings inside? - and then came stalking down one of the tables. He edged away. That little one entailed more responsibility than he thought he was capable of handling. Others might have said he was being too hard on himself; after all, he had a dragon and flew Thread, and that was a great deal of responsibility regardless of personality. In his eyes, he was being realistic. Prith had been suited perfectly to him, and they worked as a team - he didn't see that little copper conceding to being a team member with anyone.
No, better that someone else handled that one.

"Ooh, flitters!" Aricelli squealed aloud when she heard the announcement, literally dropping her knitting in excitement. She ran for her door, only to trip over the yarn she had been working with and making a mess of her project. After getting up and rubbing her now slightly sore knees, she briefly considered leaving the knitting as it was on the floor and going to the hatching immediately, before sighing and settling down to fix it. Flitters were lovely and adorable and she wanted one very much, but if she couldn't take responsibility for her own work she had no business being responsible for a firelizard either.
Finally, what felt like an eternity later, Aricelli had salvaged and fixed what she could of her knitting. She set it aside, more carefully this time, and made her way down to the dining hall. Many people had gathered and several firelizards had already Impressed. She took her place with the others, watching the flitters' antics and hoping to be chosen for one.
Shards, the little creatures were beautiful. Aricelli giggled as she watched a very pretty little green one get deposited on the apprentice weaver's shoulder--that was so cute! If she aged out of candidacy--and that was seeming more and more likely, though she tried not to think about it too much--if she at least could have a flitter, it would almost be enough to make up for not bonding.

Oooh, she told you, Clever M'iles of Studious Taceuth! Kallyeith sang out, chortling to herself all the while as her head swung from Shino to M'iles and back again- only to be diverted once again by the sight of all the baby flitters causing their own brand of chaos and frenzy amongst the humans. Ooh, how cute they were! They did look like super tiny dragons! Her claws dug into Th'or's shoulders just a little more, not quite piercing the extra thick padding he'd had the wits to slip under there in case of such an event and stretched her neck out. Look at all of them! Look, look, look, look, LOOK! A green, I like that one- no wait, PURPLE! I LIKE PURPLE TOO! Oh, OH! TH'OR, THERE IS A PINK, LOOK! I WANT A PINK TO MATCH ME! But- OH, BLUES! BLUES BROTHERS, I LIKE THEM TOO. Ooh, Th'or, how are we supposed to choose when I like them all- and look how pretty the copper is! She's so shiny and spirited! Shino, M'iles, Taceuth, we need to get closer so they can see us better!
Th'or chuckled heartily at the young weyrchild's vehement rebuttal toward his brother, gesturing toward her as if mightily pleased by the girl's spirit. "Well said, young Apprentice! Rest assured, M'iles will be sure to remember that for every encounter henceforth, he is the man to see if you need anything, just to let you know. By Faranth, he has more know-how crammed into his very skull than I can possibly fathom!" Another blindingly white smile, he did so appreciate the vast wealth of knowledge his brother often shared with him- he would just be hopelessly lost without M'iles, at times.
Something about his admittedly bad memory when it came to names- unless they did something remarkable to really stand out in his otherwise often distracted, fun loving mind- struck him as funny, and he laughed in his usually thundering manner. A man who could not laugh at his own shortcomings was a man who'd yet to realize and seek out the true strength that waited within him! "And should you need raw strength to lift, well, I offer my services accordingly as well! Together, M'iles and I are undefeatable." And there went Th'or, essentially adopting people into their family. The man clearly had a soft spot for young children, though M'iles probably wouldn't be surprised to know his brother was considering, or attempting to anyway, on teaching Shino... something, he wasn't sure on what yet, but he surely had some sort of valuable knowledge he could pass on to the tiny Apprentice.
Poor M'iles, the man needed a pat on the back when it came to the willful whims of his dear brother.
Kallyeith, ever sensitive as she was, immediately sensed a sort of change in her fellow shoulder-rider. Shoulder-rider! Shino was a Shoulder Rider, and that was a great thing, because she was a Shoulder Rider too! They had so much in common, being girls and being shoulder riders together! Someday, when she was big enough, Shino could be a Shoulder Rider on her shoulders- and they could go be riders together and have all kinds of fun with Th'or and M'iles and Taceuth... Shino, Shino, Shino! You're a shoulder rider on me- and Th'or's name is backwards, but if it wasn't backwards and was proper forwards, he would be Roth and then he is a dragon and we're his riders! He's SPECIAL, Shino! We share the Th'or-not-a-dragon as Shoulder Riders! She chattered enthusiastically at Shino in an attempt to make her happy and smiling all over again. She needed to smile, girls always looked better when they smiled- and boys did too! Everyone should smile, it would... it would... ooh, it would make their tails wiggle! Well, humans didn't have visible tails, but if they did, they would wiggle happily because of the smiles! Her head swiveled, looking to the copper again, and then to Shino, and then to the other eggs and back again. What kind of friend do you want, oh little Shino Shoulder Rider of the Apprentices? There's lots of them! Do you want a green friend? A blue friend? A pink friend? A purple friend? A black friend? A brown friend? A copper friend? A piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink friend maybe? What kind do you want? I will help you get one!
Pulling herself up a little more, she balanced precariously on her front paws, back legs pressing tightly on to Th'or's lower back and hips as she whistle-chirped at the babies who hadn't Impressed yet, and towards the eggs as well. Oh, little flyers~ come here and be friends with Shino the Shoulder Rider of the Apprentices! She likes all of you, so one or two or all of you should come be friends with her too! She'll let you be a Shoulder Rider too, just like us! She called out cheerfully, determined to bring the smile back into Shino's eyes and heart again. This was a happy thing, there would be no bad dark sadnesses in this place, not while she was around to do something about it!

Calmere shrugged. "I suppose dragonriders don't really need the money that comes from selling them," he mused. Maybe he should ask Nimara about compensation, because he really hadn't a clue where riders did get money. The Weyr provided the necessities, of course, but...
He made a vague attempt to nudge their way forward, which ended with him getting an elbow in the rib. Not the most assertive pair ever, were they? "No, no. Let's focus on trying to get you one," he said. "I don't need a firelizard, besides. I've got Triss. Well, I've sort of got Triss. She might choose another dolphineer if I never come back."
Someone stepped on his foot, and he pressed a bit closer to her, more for his own safety than anything else. When something dropped on his shoulder like a stone, he didn't even realise it was a firelizard until there were teeth sinking into his nose. For a tiny hatchling, the little guy sure had powerful jaws, and he screeched in shock, letting go of Taza to flail at the purple - who immediately let him go and fluttered over to his wife, leaving Cal bleeding and in shock, covering his nose with his hand.
----
M'iles eyed the girl's shoulder knots. He hadn't even bothered to glance at them, given her apparent age. "An apprentice, eh? At eight?" he teased. Obviously she must be at least ten or eleven. Goodness, he was in a waspish mood, and the kid deserved better than having his ire toward Th'or taken out on her. That, and it wasn't good to make enemies, even tiny ones.
"No need to apologise, Apprentice. My assumption was rude and you were very right to call me out on it," he said. "Can you see who that purple Impressed to back there? A description of the knots and the person is fine if you don't know them."
Undefeatable. Together. M'iles bent over his recording while Taceuth lifted his head above the crowd to recount the movements of the little flits, and wished as hard as he could that Th'or's name would not need to appear here.
----
In the meantime, though most people would be distracted by the hatchlings and their own Impressions, Drummer and Strummer were still scuffling on the floor, bumping into ankles and risking quick death by trampling. Flute and Piper darted at them to try to pull them apart, but at this stage, none of them really knew what was going on. Drummer was trying to flee and couldn't get the space to go between without endangering himself. Strummer wanted to show him who was boss, and had a good grip on his tail. Flute had a vague, happy idea that Strummer liiiiked him, but this was not the right way to show it, and Piper wanted to protect both of them.
"Stop it!" Ni'on cried, trying to pounce, and quite suddenly the whole group of them popped out of there via the void, leaving him empty-handed. "Oh, Faranth." Strummer needed to eat. Gathering up his sweetrolls, he hightailed it out of there to find the missing quartet.
----
In Mya's lap, her new firelizard was busy eating his fill, peeping out at Mysk in his egg-impersonation state on occasion. He sniffed inquisitively at his person, pawing lightly at her shirt to see what the material felt like, and made a nest on her stomach. Comfy, especially if she kept her protecting hand over him.
Mya chuckled. "I'll call you Curiosity," she decided. She was getting the mental impression he wanted to learn things, to know things, but he was so shy! Well, she could help him. She was good at dealing with shy. Witness the bigger lump beside her. "We can go if you like, Mysk. Mysk? Come on, Mysk, you have to lead me out of here. I can't see anything." His head was tucked down enough that trying to use his eyes actually got her more blackness than her own meagre light perception did.

“It wasn't the first time that little thing had been picked up and packed around – I saw it, I see a lot,” Valha murmured, more to herself than to Q'sis, “He was fine. Isn't that right, my lovely lady?” For once, the total attention of her flitters elsewhere meant that for this pure and beautiful moment, nothing was between she and Mith. No fuzzy little firelizard thoughts – nothing. Just she and Mith. It was for that reason, Valha ignored Q'sis, and even Mith spared him only a glance when he said her name, rider and dragon otherwise utterly focused on each other. It was a little like being drunk. Valha giggled, and Mith licked her. * * * The second largest egg in the clutch, right behind the now-shattered golden egg in size, wobbled a bit, then rocked hard – rolling completely out of the basket on a high bit of sand and shattering on the table below, leaving a dramatically metallic bronze sprawled in the remains of his egg. After gathering himself a little, he shook his head and climbed to his feet. From another table, the copper barked sharply at him, and he straightened, lurching away to follow her. He had duties, and she had rightfully called him out for slacking! Terrible! As he left, another group of eggs started opening up in earnest, spilling their contents onto the table, as more and more of the basket was taken up by broken shards of eggs. One brilliantly shaded green was immediately fascinated by a fragment of her sister's gold egg, lifting it up and staring at it as she turned it this way and that. Another green streaked by on her left side, running up and down the leg of the table twice before returning to see what her sister had, nosing over the metallic shell briefly before turning the barging off into the crowd again. She raced up legs and across shoulders, but then stopped, backtracking and leaving light claw marks as she returned to one particular shoulder. Practically vibrating in place, she started poking Meena in the cheek with her snout – foodfoodfoodfoodfood and then GO. Yes! Now! Meena Hex Code: 35b235 Inspiration: High Energy and Impatient Two pinks had joined the unImpressed green on the table, the first chattering ceaselessly to the second, who simply cocked her head, utterly bewildered. Slowly, the second, a vibrant, brightly colored pink, as opposed to her sister's paler shade, backed away from her chattering sister, in fact backing completely off the table and falling to the floor with a confused squeal. Limping a little, she beelined into the crowd – she may not be too sure of what else was going on, but she knew who would help. She climbed atop Mayalene's shoe and huddled against her ankle, face pressed against Hers and away from the noisy, bustling crowd. Mayalene Hex Code: fc00ae Inspiration: Easily Confused and Overwhelmed The chattery pink, having walked to the edge of the table to watch her sister fall, and not stopping chittering and squeaking ONCE during the whole event, caught sight of...her green sister's shiny shell. She wanted it. Rushing over, she bowled her sister over, perching on her back for just the moment it took to snatch the shell away and clasp it firmly in her jaws, and then she leaped up and into the air, beating her wings wildly to get airborne. She had someone to shooow it to! Behind her, the green shrieked suddenly and violently furious, her eyes whirling from a peaceful blue into an enraged red in less than a heartbeat. She, too, took to the air, chasing after the thieving pink. The pink, ignoring the shrieks behind her, landed against G'dan's chest, stretching her neck up to show him her shiny thing...and a second later the green slammed into both pink and G'dan, howling her fury, and latched teeth into the pink's tail. The pink, now angry herself, shrilled and bit back, catching the green's front leg in her mouth, and effectively starting the brawl in earnest. G'dan Hex Code: f9a2df Inspiration: Noisy Thief G'dan Hex Code: 44ef0a Inspiration: VENGANCE WILL BE MINE Completely ignoring the ruckus taking place between pink and green, the copper continued her slow saunter up and down the tables, now with the bronze playing attendance to her. She was getting...tired of this. None of these things were what she wanted, not...quite... And then she happened to glance up. Ooooh, yes. Yes. She leap lightly to M'iles's shoulder, perching there for a moment to gather herself for her next jump – the next target was quite high, after all – and then sprung, catching her claws in Th'or's shirt and scrambling up to his shoulder. Behind her, the bronze followed, jumping to M'iles and hesitating there, chirping at his perch apologetically as the copper climbed atop Kallyeith – and from there, to Th'or's head. But Th'or wasn't her goal, oh no. No, the clever human who'd gotten this large servant to carry her, oh yes. Clever thing, perfect for her. She reached up to grasp Shino's arm, pulling herself atop it and hissing until Shino held it at the exact angle she desired, posing herself in the most lovely fashion on what was, effectively, the highest point in the room. Shino Hex Code: e68516 Inspiration: Cruel, Possessive and Manipulative (SHE IS THE CONDENSCE TO SHINO'S HELMSMAN, IT THAT HELPS) The copper content, the bronze chirped again to M'iles, before he lauched to Th'or's chest, clinging there. He peeped to himself for a moment, before addressing Kallyeith; might he join her in noble Impression to her human? Th'or Hex Code: 877f12 Inspiration: Valiant, Honorable Knight Only six more eggs were left in the basket under Idunn's watch, all rocking and showing cracks, though no flitters were to be seen...yet.

Meena watched as a couple more eggs hatched and the flits ran this way and that. Ohh, there were so many! A green and white one caught her eye as it climbed up onto someone and started jumping onto peoples' shoulders.
"Hiya!" she said when it jumped onto hers, but then it moved on to someone else. Meena drooped slightly. That one seemed so excitable, and eager to make friends... but then she noticed it backtrack, and hop back toward her. When it stopped on her shoulder, she grinned. "Hey!"
She was greeted with a prod on the cheek, followed by a few more frantic cheek prods. Food! Her firelizard was hungry.
Her firelizard. She grinned at the thought. "We are going to be the best of friends." She said. But her firelizard gave her a look, as if to say 'Just feed me already!'.
"Alright, alright." Someone had been passing around meat earlier, and so she took some and fed it to her firelizard, who gobbled it down happily. "I think I'll name you... Shulie." she said, stating what was basically the first name that came to mind.
Shulie chirped in agreement, and prodded Meena's cheek again. More food! This one was a hungry one. So, Meena pushed her way through the crowd, off to get a meal to share with her new companion.

O’hu’s eyes fixated on the copper wing disappearing once more in its shell. {She is stuck, O’hu, you must go and free her!} Polyth said with obvious concern for the little Queen stuck in her shell. The brown knew what it felt like to be stuck in a shell and for no one to help you. {Look, Polyth. She’s fine,} The boy said as the egg split neatly in two. The shiny creature seemed incredibly pleased with herself as she basked in everyone’s awe. O’hu hadn’t even noticed the black fire-lizard until it made a rude noise at the copper. He sucked in a sharp breath as the two Queens hissed in response to the black defiance. {He shouldn’t do that, O’hu. Queens are meant to be respected.} A green quickly intervened and surprisingly the gold backed off as did the copper although she didn’t seem too happy about it.
O’hu watched as the black took a daring leap onto the floor and began to saunter his way through the crowd. This little guy was certainly going to be a trouble-maker the kind that enjoyed disobeying simply because he could. Polyth wasn’t like that. The brown always deferred to him and his superiors even though he could lead by right. O’hu liked that about his brown though because he didn’t want to be a leader. Who was going to listen to a kid who could barely get a sentence out without stuttering? No one. {You still want a black?} O’hu asked as the black made his way closer to their group. He didn’t know how Polyth would feel about having such a reckless little creature around. {Uh oh…too late!} Before the brown could respond, the black had scurried up O’hu’s leg and onto his shoulder as if that had always been his chosen spot.
The black chittered into O’hu’s ear about the copper. How hungry he was. How he was going to lead all the greens and blues and blacks and pinks against those nasty metallics. All O’hu got was a flickering of confused emotions and images but overall he got an underlying sense of hunger. “Oh dear,” O’hu muttered as he stroked the little black’s head trying to sooth the rebellious rampage. {Can I see him?} Polyth asked tugging gently on O’hu’s pant leg with his jaw. O’hu knelt down and the black immediately began directed his rampage at the brown. You don’t ask you tell! The brown drew back surprised by the intensity of the black’s emotions. {But it’s proper to ask.} He complained. The black made a scoffing noise but still reached out to touch Polyth’s white-tipped nose with his black one. The fire-lizard left the impression that he would teach Polyth the proper order of things. Hermy stirred for a moment to look with interest at the little black but then fell right back asleep. The new weyrling was certainly gathering an interest combination of companions.
“I think I’ll call you Stryd,” O’hu mused out loud completely oblivious to the copper’s trail of destruction through the remaining eggs. He straightened up with the intent of going to scrounge up some food when a deep hissing erupted from Stryd’s. He glanced to his right where M’iles, Th’or, and Shino were. The copper had made her choice and was scrabbling up Th’or to reach the young apprentice. “Shush, shush,” O’hu said trying to muffle the nose by placing his hands over Stryd’s maw. The black flared his wings keen to continue the fight that had been interrupted early. “Sorry, sorry,” He muttered to Shino as he began to back track through the crowd to put some distance between his black and her copper. Someone was kind enough to hand him some meat rolls which he hastily began ripping up in order to distract Stryd. The black’s hunger won out as he stopped hissing and began chomping down on the proffered treats.
***
The shining copper wing withdrew itself into its shell. She was apparently not quite yet ready to make her appearance but Frayya kept her eyes trained on that egg. She didn’t even bother to look at the other fire-lizards that were cracking their shells. Her sole focus was rewarded when not a moment later the egg split in two leaving the copper standing in all her resplendent glory. She didn’t even notice the other fire-lizards emerging from their shells. She wanted the copper.
The moment was spoiled when the insolent little black directed a rude noise at the copper. Frayya shook her head at the little creature’s stupidity. There was no way he was going to win that battle. The apprentice weaver didn’t stop to think about the hypocrisy of that thought. She had spent her whole life defying the Master Weaver’s every wish but then that was different. She was right and they were wrong. The black was clearly wrong here.
The copper’s ferocity as she walked around the tables didn’t deter Frayya in the slightest. A ferocious Queen was better than no Queen at all. A copper that snapped off people’s fingers wasn’t exactly going to win her any favors from the Masters but she was sure she could tame the little beast effectively. She didn’t notice the blue fire-lizard weighed down by the newly hatched green as they winged towards her. Her eyes were on the prize. She almost jumped out of her skin when the blue landed on her shoulder wiggling that pint-sized green at her. “Oh no…” Frayya said, “Shoo!” She waved her arms slightly trying to dislodge the blue and the green from her shoulder. The blue made as if to drop the green and Frayya’s hand automatically darted out to prevent the baby fire-lizard from falling to the floor.
The baby green snuggled into Frayya’s arms like a perfectly primped princess. The young woman let out a disappointed sigh as she looked up in time to see the copper climbing up onto Shino’s arm. She felt the slight flutter of emotions against her mind. Look at me! I am just as pretty. Smarter too! “Come on you little pest,” Frayya said with a resigned look as she stomped off. With the copper Impressed, she didn’t want to hang around and get saddled with another fire-lizard so she moved to the far corner of the hall calling for one of the kitchen staff to bring her some food so she could feed the Pest. ‘At least, she has a pretty pattern on her wings,’ The weaver thought to herself as she took some meat from a drudge, ‘Might make a good dress actually.’
((Sorry for the slight moding of Garm, Chek. Hope that's okay))

While Th'or and Kallyeith were more than delighted when some of the flits apparently heeded their words and headed in their general direction, the man at least was keeping an eye on the biggest of the lot- namely that Copper who'd been a bit of a pill. She needed a steady hand, lest she go rotten and ill tempered to the point she was a danger to all around her. Blue eyes narrowed slightly, following the Copper and clumsily galloping Bronze who'd hatched a handful of moments before. He drew himself up a little more, squaring his shoulders in case he needed to run interference on that shiny little lady should she want to attack his charge perched upon his shoulder.
Kallyeith, naturally, was a big fan of this idea and was practicing her vigilant face. Her eyes whirred orange for an instant as the pink and green started fighting, neck arching up as she whistled in their direction, as if calling a time out between the two of them. Hey! HEY! You two, NO! NO FIGHTING! That's bad manners and your dam will be embarrassed by this! I know you guys can get along and there's a misunderstanding, so stop fighting and go find your people or I'll find them for you! She ordered with a snort of emphasis, just in time to squeal herself in surprise when, one after another, the Copper and the Bronze leaped from M'iles, oh how grumpy the clever brother of Th'or's was right at the moment, he needed to cheer up, but Taceuth would most certainly help him get into the spirit of things! Copper went climbing up Th'or, and then on to Shino! Kallyeith's eyes widened, fang filled jaw dropping in comical surprise as she watched the shenanigans unfold. Shino... SHINO YOU HAVE A LEADER SHOULDER RIDER ON YOUR ARM! Congratulations, she's a Queen of Shoulder Riding, err, well... maybe more like Arm Perching... the glorious Shining Queen of Perching! She's so pretty, what's her name? Does she want to be friends with everyone? Do you like her?
Th'or grinned at M'iles, jerking a thumb up at Shino as if M'iles hadn't already noticed and seen everything already. "Looks like our little Apprentice has quite the destiny ahead of her, wouldn't you say, brother?" Queens of any sort were important, and it appeared that Shino was quite certainly meant for important things in the future, and was starting with a little spitfire of a flit. He waited for the Bronze to follow the Copper's lead, and found himself staring into the handsome flit's face. An incredulous look appeared on the strong jawed Weyrling's face as he observed, fascinated, each little move and sound the little one made.
The pink looked excessively pleased, eyes whirrling blue and green in delight as she chirped at the flit, imitating him in her multi-toneed voice as she looked to Th'or and bobbed her head. Th'or! Ooh, my wonderful amazing favorite Th'or, we have a fine new friend! He is truly magnificent, just like you! He wants to be our friend and come home with us, so he can, right? Right? We need to name him, you have a name for him right?
"Hmm..." Th'or pondered to himself, feeding the meat roll to the rather hungry- though rather polite and well mannered- flitter and watched him take hearty, dainty bites out of the thing, neck working and bulging with every bite. "Magni?" He offered the name as more of a question towards the bronze, the firelizard's head raising for a moment, cocking to the side as if pondering the name himself. After a moment, there was a slight shake of one head, as if he were saying the name were not quite right. Blond brows furrowed in thought, trying to figure out just what he could name the little king. "....Megingjoro?" He perked up a bit at that, though there was still hesitation filtering in from their very newly established bond. The bronze looked to Kallyeith for aid, a noble cheep of inquiry to the lovely lady for her assistance, if she would be so kind.
Kallyeith studied their new friend- and he was the baby of their growing family! How glorious it was that she was no longer the youngest of them all! She definitely wanted another meat roll, maybe six of them, to celebrate this momentous occasion. ...Oooooh, I see! Th'or, you almost had it, fear not, for I have his name now! His name is Jarngreipr, though he says you can call him Jarn for short- but only privately, because he thinks Jarngreipr sounds much, much more noble. I kinda agree, my Th'or, he is a very noble fire lizard, just like us! I mean, we're not fire lizards, but we're still noble!

Q'sis strode out ahead, as he usually did after telling someone to follow.
Knowing they would oblige.
A few steps and he realized, without turning, that Valha and Mith had remained behind like a couple brown leaves caught on the archway. He knew because Unath had stayed too, and was watching the pair of them and giggling when Valha did, though Unath's giggle was too low for human ears and rattled the earth under her paws instead. All his advice on the profitability of flit eggs had become so much char in the wind.
Q'sis stomped back to Valha and seized her arm, dragging her off her dragon. He patted Mith's cheek in the course of his departure.
"I need to talk to you," he insisted as he pulled her into the well of the damp, cold Winter. "We will go to the weyr. And if you cannot keep the wool that counts for your brains straight, I will bar Mith even from the ledge." He'd dragged Unath out to crouch beside them, and stabbed a finger at the subqueen's extended arm. "And you will be staying until I've said what I need to, and you have responded in a way I find appropriate. Now get on."

One moment G'dan was watching the firelizard antics with amusement, admiring those that had Impressed and generally being a silent observer. The next moment, a chattering pink was attached to his chest, and a shrieking, outraged green had collided with both of them, sparking a biting, clawing fight with him as the battlefield. Clinging to his shoulder, Rhodi whistled his protest. No no no, little ones! No, no fighting on his tallone!
Dark eyes wide with dismay, G'dan uttered a breathless protest of his own. "Hey... hey, stop that. Stop." Awkwardly he pinned the green with his arm, long, strong fingers pressing at the hinges of the vengeance-wreaking creature's jaws to force them open, releasing the pink's tail. He repeated the action on the other side, prying the pink's mouth open to save the green's foreleg.
Naturally, both squalled and struggled, trying to resume their brawl. "Stoppit," he muttered to them. Faranth, what a scene. "Rhodi, get food." That much he remembered from both Jet's and Rhodi's hatching: once they had food, they stopped caring about anything else. The bronze lifted off of G'dan's shoulder, swooping to snatch clawfuls of scraps from a bowl and bringing them back. Immediately the hatchling spat halted in favor of creeling for food.
A scrap to the pink, a scrap to the green; while they chewed voraciously he adjusted his hold on them to deal with them both more easily. Murmuring soft reassurances and projecting affection, the greenrider turned his full attention to dealing with the double handful that chance had given him. He spared a rueful smile for a passing thought: Day'ar would never forgive him for Impressing more of the winged companions.

Ohno! We are quite fine with littlepurpleone and beepbug, Ablath returned to the little Polyth without consulting HerA'bar, who had all but collapsed into bed. Beepbug is brown, like you! I'm sure you will like him. Maybe MyA'bar will let me take him to Lesson sometime. I don't think so, though. But you shall have to show me your littlelizardfriend when you find him! Or her! Take care, Polyth! After a short burst more of her kind affection for the little brown, Ablath retreated from communication and instead focused on Beep that had gone and decided to steal a pair of A'bar's trousers. No! Beepbeep! You cannot do that! Beepbeepbeep! She cooed at him, trying to get the brown to put the pants down. Since he said Beep all the time, Ablath had decided that it must be the brown bug's own language and she was intent upon learning it.
"Oh, hello there," Andru got distracted as Ask wandered up next to him with a blue firelizard. Ask looked rather taken aback, Andru thought as he promptly fed the flitter a few scraps from his plate. Ask no know, there was a faint grumbling in the wher's mindvoice and Andru laughed. Andrusk no laugh. Tell Ask. What thing?
"He's a firelizard," Andru told the blue as he continued to feed the infant firelizard that had taken such a liking to Ask. Ask snorted. Lizardthing. What do? Ask sniffed the blue gingerly. He's a friend. A pet... Andru tried to explain, although the words weren't coming. One further reason why he wasn't meant to be a Harper, he decided. Ask, however, seemed to be making his own mind about the tiny blue thing perched upon his back. Lizask. The word roused some interest in the blue, who took a break from gobbling down mouthfuls of cured meat to turn and stare into the wher's reflective eyes. The two stood blinking at each other for some time, then the feeding continued as normal.
Do you like him?
Ask no know. Will see. Ask food now?
Andru looked down and saw that between himself and Lizask his breakfast had been completely devoured. Might as well.

Kallyeith's hyper and loving coaxing of the little girl to smile again was yielding small bounty. Her mother's apathy was old news. She'd known that for years, even while she was small and in the creche. Even worse, she had that option in front of her. The child of two dragonriders could Stand without needing to be searched. But 10 had come and gone without joining the ranks of the Candidates because, whatever happened, she was terrified of flying. And one couldn't have a dragon without fighting Thread. That was kind of the point! So she wanted a Wher instead. But she knew that decision would ensure that if her mother's respect, or care, ever came...it would be a hard and uphill slog.
And perhaps she wanted that, instead of the ease of being something worth caring over simply because she rode a Dragon. But for her, now, accepting that was still hard. Remembering why she'd done what she had done put a little bit of sparkle back into her eyes, but her mother was something best not thought about for now. She smiled, but not with her eyes, at Kallyeith, the red of her face fading, M'iles apology getting an absentminded nod. Wait a moment. She frowned as she thought about what the Pink just said. Th'or backwards was...Roht, not Roth. Maybe this was one of those times where you didn't say anything?
And what kind of flitter did she want? Oh, she definitely wanted one, but which? But she knew what to say in order to make the Pink happier...and maybe stop trying to cheer her up. She felt bad, thinking that thought, but she just didn't want to smile and laugh right now. Oh, I think a Pink flitter would be wonderful! Mostly because they seemed like the most fun ones, watching all of the clutch impress. Her eyes were on the Copper though, watching the little Queen act like one. A little empress from fables, owning her slice of Pern.
But Impressing to a Queen was hardly likely to happen, especially to someone like her. Maybe one of the little Fighters though, that would be nice. And far more realistic. She wasn't commanding or strong, she didn't have any of the qualities she'd heard that Queens liked. She was painfully shy and unsure of herself, which was hardly something Queenly. So she kept an eye on the fighters, on the Pinks and the Greens.
And only became aware of the Copper, and the Bronze now attendant to her, when they began leaping over to where M'iles, Th'or and she were. The noise of the crowd helped with that. And then the Copper was a few inches away, climbing up Th'or. Now, this man, he was a man worthy of a Queen. Strong, self-confident, big, he'd draw all of the attention in the room to him and his Queen. All of a sudden, there was a Queen on Th'or's head, reaching up for her arm, pulling herself onto it...
And there was a sudden flood of emotions that coursed through her as the little Copper hissed up at her. Up with the arm, didn't she know better? Shino complied before she even thought about it, raising her arm up so that the flitter truly was the highest point in the room. The Copper posed, wings outstretched, impressive, truly the center of attention. Yes, she had found the human for her. Said human was currently staring at the little Queen, unable to quite believe what had just happened. Until Kallyeith's voice broke in, confirming that she'd Impressed to this Copper.
But...she didn't...never thought...Shino had a difficult time collecting herself, until the Queen hissed at her. What was she doing, clever little human? Clearly, she was shirking her duties. After all, the best flitter in the room, even beyond her mother, needed to be fed. With only the choicest bits, mind you, since she was the Queen. Finally, the human responded to the Pink dragonet on Th'or's other shoulder. Uh...she wants to be fed, and she isn't very nice... But what was her name? She should feel excited, shouldn't she? And she did, but not nearly as much as she should have. Actually, it was kinda weird. Her head felt kinda fuzzy right now. And everything just seemed really far away.
Name, name, right. She thought for a moment, and then spoke. “How about Peixes?” There was a momentary pause as the flitter digested this, and then a flush of content pleasure. It was a good name that her clever little human had given her. A name that reeked of imperial power, of servitude of others, of wonton abuse of that power at a moment's notice. A name that, perhaps, others had suffered under once, under glorious rule. And better yet, a name that conveyed none of these things to those who did not know, or understand. Yes, the perfect name for her.
She had small worries, though, about this clever human she had Impressed to. Clearly, there was work to do in order to make this human into a proper representative of her Queenly powers. She had her work cut out for her, and she would tolerate no slacking in her drive. The first thing to do would be to give this girl-child some confidence. Since Peixes was brimming with it, perhaps she should share? Haha, what a joke. No, she would force Shino to become a possession worthy of being under the Copper's claw.
She whirled, wings outstretched, staring at the girl. She was hungry, and there would be food. Or she would take that food from those who were less than her. Actually...she barked a command to the newly named Jarm. If there was not food coming from Shino, he would do as was right and give her the rest of his meat roll.
The little apprentice was properly horrified by this idea, passed to her only as an afterthought, and flushed. “N-no! I'll get you food, don't take any from your b-brother.” Of course, now she was way up high, and couldn't get down. Oh dear, she'd have to ask for someone to help her. Because she couldn't help herself like she wanted to. She was only barely cognizant of O'hu's apology, and had other things on her mind. Like where he'd gotten those meat rolls. “C-can someone please b-bring me food for Peixes?” And not have it stolen from her brother. Hardly a glorious start.
And then it started to sink in. She had a flitter. She had a Queen flitter impressed to her. And to think she had only wanted a Fighter. It was...it was...
If she hadn't been holding onto Th'or with her other hand, she was quite sure that she would have fallen. As it was, she was feeling quite faint as the wonder overcame sadness and apathy. She'd have to make sure to take care of Peixes very well, but not spoil the little flit. Somehow.

Like most of the crowd, Kelsira watched eagerly as the new queen made her appearance. She didn't think she'd Impress the little copper, but she was curious to see who she chose. Kel's curiosity turned to disbelief as the little menace started to break open some of the eggs surrounding her. Thankfully, it seemed as if the hatchlings inside were ok, they just were entering the world sooner than they would like. Irrationally, the miner found herself irritated on the new hatchling's behalf. Whomever the copper chose would have there hands full, there wasn't a doubt about that.
Nearby laughter drew her attention to a pair of blues chattering at each other on the table. Glad to see at least some of the clutch getting along, Kelsira raised a surprised eyebrow as the blue with the darker edged wings hissed and moved away. Wondering what had set him off, she chuckled as he tumbled off of the table.
A scratching at her ankle caused her to start before looking down at her feet. The little blue was drooping at sadly at her feet, his wings and tail dragging. "There's no need for that", she crooned softly picking him up. Cradling him gently in one arm, she gently scratched his eyeridges and was rewarded with a happy chirp. Musing on a name, she fed him the scraps of meat she had until he sighed contentedly. "Hmm, how's Agate sound?"
The blue flit looked around imperiously. Clearly his person appreciated him! With an affectionate nudge, he hopped up Kelsira's arm to her shoulder for a better view.

Naraevhyn flashed G'dan a grateful smile as she fed Innorvi, who wriggled her way into Naraevhyn's tunic. With her tiny green head poking out of the woman's neckline, Innorvi was nearly sated. She was content in her person's shirt, relishing the warmth and closeness.
"She truly is, G'dan," Nara said quietly to the greenrider. "Distinct, like your Prith if I recall right." She watched the Copper, her focus quickly broken by the Pink and Green dashing to G'dan. She stifled laughter and flashed him a smile.
"Congratulations," she said. "A pair in a flash, you lucky man." She offered the bowl of meat scraps she had to G'dan, gesturing to her Green. "Innorvi is sated, you can have these." She smiled once more, turning her attention back to the Copper. "Oh look! She Impressed. Lucky, lucky... M'iles, I think that is."
Nara glanced at the final six eggs as Ranulf curled his neck around hers to nuzzle at Innorvi, completely missing the Copper's true Impression to Shino. Naraevhyn reached up to stroke his wings as she pondered the eggs.
"What do you think the remaining eggs will be?" she asked G'dan.

Naitia
It was only grudgingly that she stood still and watched the flitters hatch. The effort of keeping Fancy from coming over to them was beginning to give her a headache. It seemed the little pink really wanted to come and see what was going on. Naitia knew better than to let her though. The little pink's presence could upset the queen or the babies. Some firelizards might easily give in to their bonded's wishes, but not this one. She knew what she wanted and would get it! With a mental push the pink went between, arriving above her head with a proud squawk. Look everyone, she had overpowered her human pet!
At that moment Naisk, who had taken a few steps back, commented, Naisk's must learn more control. Immediately she snorted in displeasure while attempting to wave Fancy away. I have plenty of control, she snapped at her wher. I control you, don't I? Much to her surprise she needed to get a laugh from Naisk. Naisk does what Naisk wants, he corrected her. Just happens to be well behaved. Naisk's will be doomed if she gets troublesome mini-dragon.
For a moment there was silence, which was soon shattered by Naisk adding, no need worry though, Naisk will control. Tiny dragon will be Naisk's. Not Naisk's like you Naisk's, Naisk's like also Naisk's. This got another snort from Naitia but no further response. Instead she chose to ponder her wher's words. Was her control really that weak? Yes.
Shut it, you.
Kurin Tag Meena
None of the Firelizards approached him, disappointing Kurin to no end. What, was he not good enough for these creatures? Logic said no, these were tiny hatchlings looking for food, they probably weren't judging. Yet another part of him said he should feel like they were trying to judge him, like getting left alone was a personal insult. That was what his persona would act like after all. If he wanted to keep up appearances he should get his irrationality on. But he didn't want to, not now. Yet he couldn't stand there doing nothing, he had to be someone at least one person remembered. Eventually a idea struck him and he began to scan the crowd.
It wasn't long before he spotted Meena and walked over to her, a fake lazy grin on his face. She was cute enough, definitely enough to attract some attention. And that was just what he was going to give her. "Hey there pretty lady," he called. "Nice firelizard you have there. Cute, all stripe like." There was a moment of silence before he slowly said, "you know, she'll rise one day. Maybe if I impress a king he can chase her, bring about a all new generation." This was accompanied by a rather suggestive wink. Meanwhile he was thinking, oh Faranth, please don't be one of those girls that likes to punch when insulted, please don't let that be considered an insult.
