Well, apparently there were firelizards. Imagine that. Normally V’yeri might have been intrigued—and, he supposed, even now he was at least a little bit intrigued—but he could only be so excited about baby firelizards he could only get a glimpse of now and then. Especially when he was still very unpleasantly wet and sticky. He sighed, wiping a hand ineffectually across his forehead and turning to his dragon, who hadn’t said a word since they were dumped in the dining hall. Are you all right, Vespasiath? Well, I know ‘all right’ is probably not something terribly applicable to either of us right now, but you know what I mean.
I just don’t understand! Why would she do that? It doesn’t make sense, not at all! There’s no…no order! No sense! What is happening to society? This last sentiment was nearly a wail, and while V’yeri wasn’t quite sure how to respond to it, he was at least glad that his dragon seemed more concerned with making sense of it than actually hurt. V’yeri shrugged. Oh, I don’t know. She’s done it before. Will probably do it again, too, though next time it won’t be us, I promise you that! She’s a tan; I think tans are just like that. Best to steer clear of them.
Vespasiath didn’t seem terribly satisfied with this answer, but apparently had decided to continue mulling it over on his own. After a minute, though, he lifted his head slightly as he caught sight of a shiny copper firelizard climbing up the arm of a little girl sitting on their fellow weyrling’s shoulders. Quite a lot of fuss over a gaggle of rather unintelligent creatures, he huffed. Though they are better than that insect you keep, at least. V’yeri’s lips tweaked in a smile. People here do seem to like having pets. Though firelizards are quite sought after, you know. There isn’t a child in Pern who doesn’t go through an egg hunting phase at some point in their life. Vespasiath snorted. Very few of these look like children. V’yeri shrugged. Growing up is overrated anyway.
------
Even if Taza only got a glimpse now and then, she could tell that the firelizard hatchlings were all very beautiful. They were a proper rainbow of colors patterns, with no two exactly alike, and from the sound of it, many had quite the boisterous little personalities as well. She felt Calmere try to nudge them forward through the crowd, though it seemed to be quickly enough abandoned as a hopeless endeavor. There were just too many people already gathered, and Taza was no more the shoving type than her husband. Not that she viewed that as anything other than being polite, for the most part.
She flashed him a sheepish smile as thanks for the effort all the same. “Well, if you’re sure.” Her hand tapped idly against her leg. “Do weyrs have dolphineers? I mean, ones like this at least that are pretty close to the water might have some use for them. But I guess we’ll see how the candidate thing goes for us first, huh.” Taza hadn’t thought much about the future since she’d arrived at the weyr—she had her hands full just dealing with the present. She could probably deal with working on the mess that was currently her marriage, or getting used to living in a weyr and the possibility of becoming a dragonrider, but it was much more difficult to try to do both at once.
She brightened, though, attention brought back to the firelizards as a beautiful little mottle-skinned purple went swooping over the crowd, his baby wings carrying him clear over everyone’s heads. Just as she was about to point it out to Calmere, though, to make sure he noticed too, the purple seemed to crumple and fall out of the air, right above them. She felt a pang of alarm—had he somehow hurt himself? Was he too young to be trying to fly?—and lifted her hands ineffectually in a too-late effort to catch him, but he’d already landed…on Calmere’s shoulder.
Before she even had time to wonder if he was okay, the little purple was up and moving, and—biting Calmere’s nose, apparently? “Hey!” She frowned at the purple—whoever he picked would have to teach him some better manners! That thought went out the window, though, almost immediately, when the purple sprung right over to her shoulders and crooned at her, just as sweet and gentle as could be. Her expression softened, and a smile spread over her face as she slowly lifted a hand and stroked her fingers down his perfectly smooth newborn hide. “Calmere, look! Aww, he wants to be my firelizard! I’ve never had a pet before. Are you hungry, little guy?” She pulled her hand away from him to gingerly break off a very small piece of Calmere’s meat roll, and lifted it to his head for him to examine.
The purple gently took the offering, careful not to bite Taza’s fingers, though the meat was gulped down his throat almost as soon as it was in his mouth. He crooned his appreciation to his perfect, beautiful human, waiting for more. “I don’t know why he bit you—you must have scared him somehow. He wouldn’t have done it otherwise, right little guy? He’s just so sweet! I guess I’ll have to think of a name for him, huh?” The purple nuzzled his head against the side of Taza’s neck with another warble, though he turned just enough to let him see a flicker of red roll through the facets of his eyes while he hunched down a little, unfurling his wings just a little. He knew that guy’s type, and he was going to keep an eye on him!

After the first few lizards made their Impressions, T'von gazed at the remaining eggs. He glanced over and noticed the slimecovered viridianpair had decided to join them. That was good. Maybe something will help improve their day a bit after the incident with Mith. Whatever possessed her to do that, T'von would never know, and he doubted anyone at all would. No harm was done, though, so it mattered little.
He took his eyes completely off of the eggs to look around at the rest of the crowd. There were definitely quite a few people here, even several weyrlings and their dragonets, besides V'yeri. Looks like hatchings of any type draw people like pillies to water. T'von mused, hearing a mental chuckle from Moruluth.
It seemed that the eggs had decided it was time to give another round, as more flitts started popping from their shells. The flash of a copper wing made him smile, and he wondered who the little queen would go to, if i didn't go wild. The wing retracted back in soon after, and a black had wriggled his way out of his shell. But then the copper's shell slpit open revealing the tiny queen that was inside.
After a brief spat between the two siblings, the green had managed to nudge the black towards Impressing, and T'von grinned. Impressions were always nice, especially to a little black like Raincloud. Though the two hardly shared personalities, it seemed. Once the black was gone, the copper seemed to go on a rampage, and began smashing eggs as she walked by them.
T'von's grin widened as he saw the confused purple, reminding him of a very tiny Moruluth. He chuckled when the purple ran into his sister, who appeared to be working on art of sorts. After the copper had destroyed the work, the purple did the noble thing and brought the pink to a person to bond with.
One of the blues had made his way to one of the wher handlers, while his brother went, quite over dramatically, over to a woman. The green, though seemed to be rather lazy, and had to have another lizard carry her over to her bonded. She did have pretty wings, though, T'von thought. And after the purple bit someone's nose only to go to his mate and Impress, it left the copper all alone for a time.
It did not last, as a bronze soon joined her. He was quick to join her, as more flitts hatched away. One green in particular seemed intrigued by the golden shards of egg, while another was hard to keep track of, the way she was zipping about. She even ran up his leg and hopped off of his shoulder before finding her bond.
Then there were two pinks, one of which fell off the table and dashed away, while the other stole the shard of egg from the green. Which ensued in a chase that ended in the chest of a rider. T'von shook his head and looked at the remaining hatchlings. With a few hops between people's shoulders, the copper had found the one she had wanted with the bronze in tow. However, the bronze decided to attatch to the tall, pink weyrling instead,
With all of them Impressed, T'von looked at the six remaining eggs. They all seemed to be very active, so there wasn't likely to be a dud amongst them. One never knew, but T'von kept his hopes up that there wasn't.

It had actually been quite a lucky coincidence that, mere sevendays before, Sebolaren had been able to pay a short visit to Dalibor right when Ayla was going to clutch. Obviously he couldn't take the eggs back to Keroon with him, risking their lives between. Just as obviously, it would be nice for Ayla's children to be born and live at the place their dam would eventually call home once again. And so Atenna had taken charge of the eggs, keeping them warm and protecting them as they hardened.
There were four of them. One was quite large; the other three were much smaller, but much the same size as one another. She was working in the pens when the call for firelizard eggs arrived in her mind. Valha's clutch, she remembered vaguely. Yes, this was perfect! Much more fun than passing the hard eggs out to friends.
It took her a bit to make her way to her quarters and fetch the four little eggpots, and then she finally arrived in the dining room. The hatching was finishing up, it seemed, but not quite over yet, which was exciting. That meant the babies would have so many choices of who to bond with! Atenna made her way toward the cracked shells and the six remaining eggs and deposited her own beside them. The big egg gave a little wobble, and she grinned.
"Extra eggs from orange Ayla!" she called, and then hastily skipped back. None for her, thank you.

Idunn and the rest of the mob watched Atenna approach, not raising a fuss when she deposited several more rocking eggs next to the remains of the gold's clutch – instead, Hati poked into the basket, touching the four eggs one by one, and then licked the last one, the largest one. She chirped, and then settled on the edge of the basket, proprietorially, nosing into Idunn's way when the gold, impatient, moved as if to shove them out and away from her eggs. No, these were under Hati's protection now. Idunn hissed, but settled instead on arranging her eggs on the side of the basket away from her absent orange sister's. But her eggs were so busy hatching, that when she picked up one of the littler eggs in her mouth to move it, the cracked bottom gave way, spilling a little green out onto the sand between her mother's front paws. The little dusky green squalled as soon as her rump hit sand, snarling up at her mother for having the audacity to drop her. Idunn responded to this complaint by dipping her head to thump the little green right on top of her little green skull. Dazed and offended, the green decided to take her chances away from the gold flitter, and weaved off into the crowd. As this was happening, one by one the last five eggs were cracking open – spilling out a second green there, a pink backing out of her shell here, and a blue behind Idunn's tail. The three stumbled together in the sand, nosing each other in interest – but then the pink bit the blue right on the snout – lightly, but apparently enough to offend the blue, as he backed up, sweeping open his wing to usher the bright green away with him, and threw a little sand at the pink with a flick of his tail to compound his disdain. She squeaked, unhappy. She just wanted to him to know she loved him. Teeth were best for that. The little green, meanwhile, spotted what she was after, and leap onto the back of a walking man – scrambling up to Kurin's shoulder to complain in his ear about all the terrible things that were happening today. Kurin Hex Code: 85af1d Inspiration: Pessimistic, Quarrelsome and Proud The pink, left with her mother and the last of the eggs in the basket, tried to go visit her cousin-eggs, but Idunn lifted her by the tail and dropped her by her last two still in-egg siblings. One was moving, the other wasn't, and it was the still one she investigated first. She tipped it, and it rolled much easier than it should have – there was a hole in the bottom, and no flitter inside to be found. Right at that same moment, a tiny black flitter settled himself inside of of T'von's pockets. T'von Hex Code: 111111 Inspiration: Secretive and Ghostlike The pink, confused but willing to accept this, moved on to Idunn's last egg – shoving her snout in a crack and cheeping excitedly to the flitter within – and also trying to nibble her affection on any part of her sibling she could. He, for it was a he, responded by backing out the other side of the egg, a brown rump cracking through and leaving the pink stuck with her head in the egg while the brown made his escape – until he tripped over the edge of the basket and when sprawling face first into the tabletop. The blue and the second green made their way along the table, skittering to the floor with as much dignity as the tiny pair could muster, and went their separate ways. The blue strode through the forest of feet and legs, pausing to watch one woman attempt to shoo away a pink that was not from his clutch. He looked, somewhat despairingly, at her wher, then stepped over to settle between Naisk's front feet, waiting for his human to stop being embarrassingly silly and feed him. Naita Hex Code: 5d5d9d Inspiration: Formal and Reserved The brown worked his way along the floor, having gotten there by slipping off the table, avoiding tripping over people's feet and such – with little success. At one point actually stumbling right over his smaller green sister, he worked himself up to an awkward gallop, trying to catch up with the person he wanted – she was moving away! This was so hard – he wanted to stop and look, and sniff, and maybe taste all the things, but he had to catch up! He didn't want to be left behind! With great effort, he launched himself forward, wings spread, and finally reached his target, wrapping himself around Meena's ankle and panting with exhaustion. Meena Hex Code: c0aa4a Inspiration: Curious and Clumsy The green, recovering from getting splattered on the floor by her bigger brother – though she could honestly understand his distress! - hissed to herself and sat up groom herself, quickly making sure that her appearance was still in perfect order. Contented, she simply walked the last few feet to her choice and patted his foot with one of her paws, politely waiting for him to direct his attention away from the pink he'd already Impressed. She patted again, just slightly harder, when Veritka didn't look down fast enough. Veritka Hex Code: 09e40a Inspiration: Disciplined and Polite Finally yanking her head free from the brown's egg, the pink, the last unImpressed flitter of Idunn's clutch looked around the nearly abandoned nest, took a moment to nibble lovingly on her mother's wingtip, and then set off into the crowd like all her fellow hatchlings, leaving a bit here and there to certain folks in the crowd, letting them know she loved them, but they weren't for her. Finding a fascinating greenish twitchy thing, she lovingly bit the end of Vespasiath's tail, then ran up along his back, using him as a springboard to leap at V'yeri, mouth open and ready to deliver unto her soon-to-be-person the most affectionate and loving of bites possible. V'yeri Hex Code: b22a6d Inspiration: Loves ALL the Things, Bites ALL the Things With her eggs hatched and her children Impressed, Idunn disappeared between, off to find herself some food – Hati barked at the rest of the mob, sending them off after Idunn to keep the gold out of trouble. Only Meili – who couldn't between, even after all this time – stayed behind, humming quietly as Hati presided over Ayla's eggs. OOC: That's it for me, everyone. Enjoy your babies! But stick around for Cath giving out Ayla's four, alright?

Veritka was entirely entranced by the flit hatching. He had never seen a hatching of any sort at all in his life, and he was both delighted and disgusted by the tiny, goopy creatures scrabbling their way out into the world. He held his gristly scrap of meat almost idly and, when one of the tiny creatures peeped near him and tugged at it, it almost pulled free from his fingers. He looked down in surprise to see a pink chewing at the scrap. She ate a little and then paused to look around, distracted.
"Oh!" he blinked. "Here, eat some more!" And a wiggle of the meat brought her attention back to it. She ate a little more but got bored and climbed up to his shoulder. "You're so tiny!" he told her, but she was busy pawing at his hair. Too short, she decided. She couldn't do anything with hair this short! She sighed wistfully and looked around the room instead. "Tiny Meeka," he said, and the name stuck. Veritka smiled and chanced a touch, feeling the dry stickiness of her newly-dried skin. So small!
And in his distraction with the distracted pink, he didn't notice the green approaching - or much else that was happening, for that matter. She tapped his foot and had to tap again before he saw her. "Ah! I'm sorry!" he squeaked. He handed her the rest of his meat. The green, so polite, was almost taken aback by the startling motion - but cheeped a thank-you and ate carefully.
Meeka and Mali, he tought. And Veritka. He smiled big and wide. He'd just Impressed! Well, sort of - just to firelizards. But still! He was so happy. "Meeka and Mali," he told them, but Mali was still eating, and Meeka wasn't paying attention. [/blockquote]

Perhaps spurred by the presence of other hatchlings, all four of Ayla's eggs twitched, rocked, and started to crack. It was the smallest which hatched first, however, and a tiny black nose peeped out of the shell, sniffing gingerly at the air. It only took a few moments for him to recognise Hati's presence, enormous and commanding, but did he cower? No, he did not. There was only one mob boss here, y'see, and it weren't no big green! When he emerged fully from his egg, it could be seen that he was a gorgeous creature, his dark wings clouded like a night sky with a strange lightning-like marking along one wingsail. And it was like lightning that he struck, his teeth sinking deep into the very tip of Hati's tail, which was the only piece of her that he could fit in his mouth. Hati immediately put him in her mouth, and there he remained, squalling. Another head popped out of the next smallest egg, and the tiny green flapped her little wings, grass-colored. Her eyes were red, but she only peered about astutely, her head snapping back and forth as she zeroed in on each person in turn. All she could think about was murder, but she had a rather skewed perception of what "murder" meant. She wanted to rip and tear and eat and definitely there had to be blood. Definitely. Bobbing her head, she fluttered out of her egg and began to stalk a particular person. She landed briefly on Naraevhyn's shoulder, but flitted off it in a moment, landing in Meena's hair. There she became grossly entangled. With a raptor-like screech, she flailed angrily and at last careened into the air and went sprawling into Aricelli's chest. Her talons dug into the girl's collarbone, and she shrieked up into Aricelli's face. HUNGRY! She needed blood! She needed to maimmurderkill! Lapping at the blood her claws drew, however, she already knew that Aricelli would not be her prey after all. Aricelli was territory. Aricelli was home, and her vicious instincts would protect her. Aricelli Hex Code: 5A8A49 Personality: Velociraptor, Audrey II Hati appeared to be thoughtfully chewing the black, but his outrage made it clear that he was still alive. Meanwhile, his brother hatched, a lovely midnight blue. Blinking round at the world, he gave a great yawn. Oh, it was so bothersome to have to rescue everyone all the time! He stretched his tiny body and went through a whole routine before turning to pry the black out of Hati's jaws. The black could not possibly have been less grateful, and went reeling off, guns a-blazin'. The nearest target happened to be Meili, who probably wouldn't understand why he suddenly had a tiny baby black poking him in the side and trying to get him to agree that Hati was the worst. THE. WORST! When this failed, he snorted. Had to get somebody on his side. Right away. Fortunately, there was a perfect candidate nearby. Temporarily injured by Hati's enthusiastic chewing, he went careening off and crashed into Naraevhyn's cheek, talons catching at her hair to hold himself up, and peeped commandingly into her ear. See here, he was late to the party but obviously he was in charge of everything currently attached to her, including any food she might have about her person! Naraevhyn Hex Code: 0A0F16 Personality: Commanding, Mob Boss The blue had rescued his brother, and so he settled back on his haunches with a yawn. He would just wait and see who here looked most like they needed a hero, and then make his leisurely way to them. In the meantime, a sunset-orange wing flailed out of the shell of the biggest egg.

Meena suddenly felt something wrap itself around her ankle. She looked down. "Oh! A second one! I'm so sorry, I didn't think more than one of you would want me." She reached down and picked up the brown, placing it on her unoccupied shoulder.
He was still panting, and collapsed on her shoulder. "Oh, poor guy..." she pet him with one finger. Then, Shulie pawed her neck. Meena turned her head. "Oh, are you still hungry? That's right. Let's find a place to sit." Tray of food in hand, she found a table and took a seat.
Shulie ran down her arm and sat by her hand, ready to be fed. The brown, however, was still tired. Meena had to lift him and place him on the table. "Wait your turn, Shulie." She said, patting Shulie on the head before turning to the brown. "Hmm, what to name you, now..." she fed him some of her meat roll. She watched him lick the remnant of the meat roll off her fingers.
"Taran. I think I'll call you Taran."

Aricelli started as a very small green rampaged around and settled on slamming into her chest, then bit back a yelp as the green's claws dug into her shoulder. She could feel all too well its desire to rip, to tear into something alive, glorying in blood and feasting on carnage. Aricelli winced at the pain and covered her neck, trying to protect her main arteries from being slashed.
The green's desire to kill abated suddenly, and it struck Aricelli that this was the firelizard she was meant to Impress. This bloodthirsty flitter was hers to raise and keep from killing everything! At least she was no longer trying to harm her. She rushed to grab some meat--with it still dangling from her chest--and offered the food to the firelizard, wincing as the actions irritated her scratches.
The green gobbled all the meat offered down hungrily before climbing onto Aricelli's shoulder, growling agitatedly. She grabbed on and flapped her wings. The meat was not alive, not bloody enough. She was not satisfied.
"Shh," Aricelli whispered, futilely trying to soothe the green. "This is all there is. You want to eat something live, you'll have to hunt for it yourself. Outside." She glanced at her flitter's side and wings. They were quite pretty, resembling blades of grass under an evening sky--rather incongruous for something with such a violent nature.
"I think I'll call you Dusk," Aricelli said when the flitter had settled down a little, only for her to screech angrily directly into her ear. "Augh! Okay, okay, I'm sorry you don't like that name! How about Ilta?"
The firelizard sniffed slightly and settled back down, so Aricelli supposed that the name had been accepted. She stroked it tentatively and sighed, hoping that Ilta wouldn't completely destroy everything in her room.

T'von blinked as another woman had decided to bring in another four eggs into the group before skittering away to a distance. Not everyone was so keen as he was on bonding to the little things like he was, and it was a really kind gesture for her to do such a thing.
He nodded his thanks, then peered at the now ten eggs. He smiled when a little green tumbled from the back of her egg while it was being picked up. After a brief scuffle with her mother, the green darted away into the sea of people.
By this time, all but two of the eggs had hatched, and they all nudged and sniffed at each other curiously. It soon ended as the blue had been offended by the pink's nip. He shooed away the green, who clung to a passing man, and left the pink all by herself. T'von blinked when she rolled over the one egg that hadn't been rocking with it's siblings, only to find a hole in it's bottom.
It was then he felt an odd weight in one of his pockets shift itself. He peered down inside it, surprised to see two glowing orbs looking back at him. The tiny flitter gave a small croon, begging for food from his spot.
Very carefully, T'von reached into his pocket and pulled the little firelizard out, much to the black's disdain. He had been hiding, after all. Maybe he didn't want to be out where he couldn't slink away, and besides, His's pockets were quite cozy. "What on Pern am I going to call you?" He said lightly. He turned to grab a few pieces of meat to feed the black, but when he looked back, the flitt had moved from his hand, and settled himself against T'von's neck. "You're a sneaky one, aren't you?"
His response was a small cheep, and T'von smiled. "You're just like a black mist. Here one second, gone the next. And I think I'll name you that. Mist." He began popping small bits of meat into Mist's mouth, who watched everyone silently, curling closer to his bonded's neck.
Being preoccupied with his new pet, T'von missed the bonding of the brown and green, and looked up just in time to see the pink leap upon the slime-covered duo. Seeing the weyrling Impress, T'von had an idea. He asked one of the drudges if he could have a pair of towels, and when asked why, he just pointed to the viridianpair.
Upon realizing this, the drudge nodded his head and went off. While he was away, T'von went up and plucked a piece of the queen's golden shell and placed it in his pocket, just so Greedo won't have a fit. When the towels had been given to him, he made his way over to V'yeri. "Here. Not sure how much this will help, but it'll get some of it off, I'm sure. Might as well give her something nice to cling on to." He handed one towel to V'yeri, then held the other towards Vespiath, offering to wipe him as clean as possible.
Meanwhile, he glanced back as the other hatchlings made their ways out. "Ohh, those are some pretty ones." T'von said, marvelling at their unique markings. He shok his head at the black that was pulled into the orange's mouth. He felt that the viridianpair next to him would know how that was like.

[disclaimer: short post is short]
Mayalene had been entirely caught up in the image of the hatching by now, her body teetering on the edge of her seat. That need to keep a firm and safe distance however still overran any other part of her that wanted to get closer. Fingers itched, flexing against her legs as she trembled for a moment, her body poised to do something and yet her brain would not allow it to happen. It seemed that fate would help her though as a brilliantly colored pink raced toward her, squealing as it clambered into her lap and huddled there under its wings. Peeking out with its tiny nose sniffing delicately at the air, the firelizard wound its tail around Mayalene's arm and chirped hesitantly as if asking for something. For a moment the rider sat there dumbfounded until Selenth finally nudged her to do something. Taking the meat she had, the young woman broke a piece off for the little creature who nibbled an even smaller portion off, chewing it slowly while still partially hidden beneath her wings. "I think I'll call you Mouse." The pink simply squeaked in response, nibbling off another but of meat.

Naraevhyn watched on as the last of Idunn's clutch hatched, followed by the first of Ayla's. The black drew her attention when Hati stuffed him in her mouth. Well, it served him right, pestering Hati like that. She remembered her own first meeting with Hati and how poorly that had gone until Valha had arrived to save the day. Innorvi chirped inquisitively at Nara, burrowing further into her tunic. Embarrassed, Nara pulled the tiny green out of her underthings and stuck her in a pocket, mentally ordering her to stay put. She was sated, she needed to sleep now. Nara missed the black flitter's rescue at the hands of his blue brother due to another green landing on her shoulder. She wasn't surprised when the green took off again, leaving her for another. The black's subsequent crash into her face startled her, his talons in her hair caused her to swear at him. She gently took hold of the little lightning-struck black, checking him over. Noting the injuries made by Hati, she sighed. Oh well, that could be handled. He flapped his wings violently. Now see here, that wasn't how he was to be treated!
Ranulf chirped scoldingly at the black as his antics scared Innorvi. Innorvi scurried out of Nara's pocket and right back down her cleavage, leaving the Greenrider moderately irritated. She took a piece of meat and offered it to the Black, which he took and devoured. Now that was more like it! His mind pressed against Nara's as he demanded more food, opening his little mouth wide. He was the boss, see, and all the meat was hers. He mentally ordered Ranulf to get more when the remaining meat Nara had was exhausted. Ranulf looked to Nara, who acquiesced. Ranulf went to get more meat while Nara regarded her willful, mafia-esque black.
"You and I are going to go rounds, are we not, Thorun?" she asked, a perfect name arriving in her mind instantly.

The Blue blinked lazily at the humans still gathered around the egg remains. My, my, they had waited such a long time for his sister. Such a long time, oh but he was so very happy just sitting here. They continued to look at him, expectantly, and he in turn looked at them, and well, nothing really seemed to be getting accomplished. Sighing softly, the Blue lurched to his feet, drying wingsails fluttering closed as he turned to the largest egg, and his trapped clutchmate. Well someone had to be the hero, and since he was obviously the only hero here…it had to be him…which was just such a bother. Except he didn’t get the chance to be the hero, all of that effort wasted and with one final shudder his sister—because she was in-fact an Orange—broke through her shell victoriously: Landing right on top of him. She was like daybreak, wingtips nearly the colour of a crisp winter sky, that slowly faded into the shades of morning.
Oh! Well hello, he chirped softly. For one moment the Orange surveyed everyone with detached curiosity, the next her head was coiled down to her Blue brother, once-green eyes swirling a bright red as she softly hissed at him. He would get on with it before she made him. Well that was unladylike wasn’t it? Returning her gaze to the humans, her expression smoothed back into what they would expect: Inquisitive, happy, and perhaps even curious. She wasn’t any of that, but there was no need for them to know. From behind her the Blue shook off the last of his trepidations regarding his sister—she was no damsel in distress—before he began trudging the long distance toward the humans—and food. The Orange, staring from face to face, began moving up as well, though her motivation was to pick someone who had something to give her, she didn’t care at all who that someone was.
As she hopped forward, one of her forelimbs caved in an overturned shell, and her delicate flesh tore from the force, expelling drops of ichor. Her demeanor changed immediately, and her anger was directed not that the shell, but at her brother. Stupid creature! She spat venomously at him, lashing out with wings and teeth. If he hadn’t been walking near her, she could have chosen a better path, if he wasn’t so stupid she wouldn’t hurt! The Blue fell back against his sister’s wrath, eyes swirling with yellow alarm. He had tried to save her, this was madness! He was away from her in a flash, because he couldn’t be expected to save anyone else if he couldn’t even save himself, and as the distance between them grew, the Orange calmed. Just as quickly her demeanor changed, angry reds washing to soothing greens as she paused for a moment to clean her cut.
Safely away from his obviously crazed sibling, the Blue’s forward momentum slowed, and he continued on to food at a leisurely pace. Surely someone here would be more appreciative of him, surely someone required one such as he to deliver them from certain peril—in his own time of course. Yes, yes, someone…but which someone. Ah ha! There was a beast, a dangerous beast and a human that needed saving, and look, another courageous Blue like himself was busy at work to best it! His target found, the Blue leapt mightily onto Ask, crying his head off. DIE BEAST, DIE—I WILL SAVE YOU HUMAN CHILD. Then, as suddenly as the assault began, it ended, and the firelizard looked up at Andru with a heavy exhale that could only be a sigh. He was just so hungry, and this beast was just so large, could he maybe save the human another time, after food?

That left the Orange, and she absolutely did not want, or need, any of these humans. She did, however, have want and need for food. As tempting as it was to simply go her own way and find something to eat herself, these creatures were obviously waiting to fall hand over foot in her service, and who could pass up an opportunity like that? Seeing that her Blue brother had so easily found one of these people for himself, she decided the best course of action would be to procure her own, but instead of basing her choice on what she could give to these two-leggers, she asked only what they could give her. Without actually asking, because it wasn’t as if anything they had to say was important. This one here, not only did it have an ugly beast much like the one her Blue brother was attempting to murder (hopelessly she would add), it also had another of her kind. Which meant this one was able to properly sustain and feed many creatures.
Which meant she could work her way in and claim the dragon’s share of all the spoils. So these would be hers from now on. Her human, her ugly thing, and her fellow firelizard. Now there was only to work her way into their hearts, and she knew just how to do that, oh she knew just how to do all of that. Dainty as could be, tender and sweet, she hopped her way over to Laurierd. Suddenly sweet, and kind, and affectionate, the Orange’s eyes swirled a bright happy green, her mouth slightly open in an approximation to a human’s smile, the ones they had been flashing her, they must enjoy this look—so enjoy it human creature, enjoy it and give me food. Yes, yes, fall into my claws little human. She had made a good choice, she would play the parts all too well, she would be fed, and cared for, and then—then there were other things to be done.

Another batch of eggs hatched, and suddenly Laurierd, still happily cooing at all the little flits found another cute hatchling in her arms. A beautifully orange little flit that seemed to be smiling at her, even, and cuddled to her neck. Laurierd gasped. After years and years of failing to impress a single flit, she suddenly had two? She grinned and petted gently the orange's back. "Oh, you're so cute, yes you are! Here you go--"
Morsel.
"Huh?" Laurierd offered a bit of meat to the orange and looked at Lauriesk, confused. The orange hummed and nabbed the meat bit daintily from her subject's fingers. Yes, yes, the human was already falling for her charms. Soon she would be feeding her only the best bits of meat like slices of liver and carrying her everywhere. Excellent. She wasn't sure what liver was, but she was pretty sure it was a worthy food for her.
Orange Morsel. Lauriesk stared at the flit in Laury's hands. Even Hamslice glanced up.
"Ooooh, what a nice name! Are you a little Morsel, are you? Yes you are! Yes you are! Look, Hamslice, now you two must play nice with Lauriesk, right?" Morsel squaked, trying to object to the name - she was Her Highness Morsel, Queen of the Weyr - but the squeak only elicited more cooing and a suspicious look from uglything. Well, perhaps she could wait with the title. After all, now she should wrap them all around her tail, charm them utterly so she could get on with her plans. One day, one day the whole Weyr would recognize her as the supreme queen and serve her.
But for now, she had work to do. Curling her tail a little and pawing at Laurierd's nose adorably, she trilled softly, eliciting another round of coos and a reverent whistle from her blue fellow. Yes, give me more meat. Pwease.
