The eggs had her absolutely mesmerized. Though, even the sense of wonder that manifested in her boyish, flirty, Samael heart and the infectious happiness from Belphegor weren't enough to stave off the other feelings. Mostly, those were of fear. And who wouldn't be scared? Standing under the careful gaze of two massive Queen dragons? Oh, it was enough to make her behave alright - not that misbehaving was something she'd do anyways. She felt incredibly small, even in a strong crowd of other girls. She just felt like shrinking up and hiding where she could watch without seeing Callistath or Kalith. They were definitely doing a good job of being imposing.
However, she stayed where she was. Those were the rules. Stand still, look blank, stuff like that. Her eyes were fixed on that one pink egg, though, what with all its movement. Then, it stopped. She blinked. What? Was it okay? Oh, yes, it was, because there it went again! In no time, it had hatched open to reveal a little green dragon. Right there was the breaking point for Sam's attempt at no expression. She couldn't help but smile! She loved kids. Generally, that only applied to humans, but anything young and dependent just set her heart a-flutter with motherly instinct. She just barely refrained from cooing. You're such a big suck, Sam, she told herself. It was true. Even if she tried to deny it, she wouldn't have been able to. All she wanted to do was stare at the baby dragonet forever, eyes wide and adoring. Oh! And then there was another one! A blue! They were both just as cute, in their own little ways.
The green was a tiny thing, of course, and she seemed quite intent on checking the blue out. Was she trying to be... sexy? Oh, dear! And just hatched, too. It was like when the little girls batted their eyelashes at the boys, even if they were only two or three. The blue didn't really seem interested, though, did he? He looked terribly independent already. He'd have an ego, for sure.
Really, it was all just rendering Samael a pile of useless mush, both from the imposing, watching Queens and from the sheer cute quality of the dragonets. One thing was for sure: she wasn't going to make it out of here without wobbley, jello legs, Impressed or not.
---
Tier was ever the chilled-out treehugger. He watched the rocking eggs with calm anticipation. He was readying himself to be overwhelmed by the awe of it. He'd never been to a hatching before. He wasn't a veteran Candidate. This was his first time Standing, and even if it wasn't his last, he wouldn't care. He was here for the show. Like everyone else, the thought of Impressing was extremely enchanting. Who didn't want a dragon? It wasn't a life or death situation, though. If he Impressed, amazing!, but if he didn't, that was fine. Shells, even life or death situations didn't scare him. Living was good, and death was a tantalizing mystery.
Life was just as much a mystery, too. As the first dragon hatched, a darling green, a thousand questions swarmed his mind. Who was she? What did she like? Who would she Impress to? What was her self-proclaimed purpose in life? What was she thinking right now? How did seeing for the first time feel? Walking? Moving? Feeling? All Tier ever knew was how he was feeling and what was going on in his mind. It kept him wondering; kept his mind healthy. There was just all this mystery. Life was really just one big guessing game, filled with all the beauty in the world. Tier wouldn't give up that game for anything.
Then there came the blue, and Tier just kept on wondering. What was this fellow like? Who would he be in the end? That there was a very open-ended question. 'The end' wasn't exactly a set point. He supposed there were many different points in someone's life where who they were could be measured. After all, time was just a big thing of wibbley-wobbley timey-wimey... stuff. It went on forever. People were always changing, too. What beautiful creatures the sentient were - always someone slightly different. Someone new. Even the smallest of events could change someone. No one was the same person forever. They might seem like it, yes, but the beauty and magic of the world was contagious. No one was safe from it. Well - that wasn't really the right word. "Safe" implied that something was bad, and the world was hardly that.
It made him want to sing. Everything made him want to sing. He couldn't right now, though - it would be a tad out of place and would ruin the beautiful mood being set by new life. New life! New beauty! Augh! It just kept coming back to that, swelling inside him, making him weak at the knees and passionate in the heart. Still, his exterior was just a calm, warm-faced Isintier. That changed when the green Impressed, though.
Applause exploded from the stands and from Tier's own hands. How could he not clap? That girl had just Impressed! It was amazing. He could see, right from where he was, the shock that transition to euphoria and to tears of happiness. He could only guess at what that girl was feeling right now, newly-Impressed. Surely it was unlike anything else. Surely it was... well. Surely it was beautiful.
He then turned his gentle attention back to the blue, and then the newcomer - a black - where it settled. Oh, the poor thing. Isintier could sympathize. It was easy to understand how overwhelming all of this could be. The dragons, the people, the noise, but more importantly the emotion of the room. It was just one big, buzzing mass of excitement and amazement. A Hatching was definitely the most uniting event in all of Pern. Everyone was waiting together, hoping together, watching together, and the dragons were coming out into the world together.
Beautiful. That's all he could think. Beautiful.
---
Up in the stands, a certain pinkrider was watching. She was silent, a simple spectator in her own world, but she was there and that was the point. Karath's hatching had not been that long ago - Kesviry could still remember every single feeling from it and the exact order of events. It was easy to relate to the new Impressor. She knew exactly what it felt like. It felt like completion and happiness and everything you always wanted. So many people were going to get to experience that today, and she wasn't going to miss it.
Her doe eyes widened suddenly. There he was! There was Ezra! That was really why she was here, to cheer him on in her own mute way. She was hoping intensely for him. No doubt he would Impress - there were so many eggs. The chances of Impressing were quite high, unlike Noyth and Vhreth's clutches where she'd miraculously Impressed Karath. Plus, he was a good boy. A nice boy. A friend. Smiling at having picked him out, she waved high in the air, hoping he'd see her. [/blockquote]

Lebeth landed amidst other spectating dragons, letting his rider down as was his second nature now. He was in great spirits, greater than before, because today little ones were hatching. Little ones full of life, love, and hope; how he missed those days though they hadn't been all too long ago. Ha! He lived his life how he pleased anyhow, and that was with a lovely sense of attachment to everything all at once. Of course, this made it difficult for him to pay special attention to anyone or anything. He hummed with the others as the eggs were rocking and he was still humming now, though now it wasn't as loud as before. He was a hummer in general, humming his days away. Today his joy was willingly shared with all. He gave a polite greeting to his sister and mother who stood with their clutches below. Good evening, mother and sister of mine! Lovely young ones I'm sure you'll have," His call was not at all imposing. It probably fell in line with all the other greetings the Queens were receiving all at once.
This was the sort of event that L'am had to make himself present for. He was already distraught in the past for missing Noyth and Vherih's hatchings. As a Bronzerider, it was his duty to express interest in the future. It was easy for L'am especially because he was interested in it all whether he flew the bronze color or not. What made it all even easier was his interest in a certain Candidate standing below.
He was silent about the event of his being drugged. He hadn't uttered a word of the incident to anyone and those who asked about Lebeth's frantic cries for help were told that it was just a false alarm. In a way he wasn't really lying; he was in no mortal danger. When he slid off Lebeth's back he stood by the Bronze's side and stared down first of all. Kalith and Callistath probably had their shares of hellos already. He scanned those below in search of one person in particular. It was hard to tell from as high up as he was which person was which. Lebeth, find her. Which one is she?
The dragon stopped humming for a moment and lowered his head a little to get a better glance. Yes yes...I believe that is she, just right there near the back of the female cluster. But look, Mine! That little egg in the front is just about to crack! He started to hum a little once more, eyes sparking at the sight.
But Lebeth was being ignored, he and his egg of interest. L'am was scanning the cluster once more in that more specific location as he started down towards the stands. He could just see her, or so he thought. It was hard to tell because she looked a little different than usual. Now she actually blended in, whereas before she was making so much of an effort to do so that she almost stuck out like a sore thumb. Only in his eyes, maybe. But the look on his face wasn't that of calm relief at the sight of a familiar person. It was that of dead-set determination with a little scorn attached. Anyone else around him would think that he was just impatient for the Hatching to begin, but he had other reasons for letting his attitude slip to this level without being double-checked.
She had drugged him and warned him away. He couldn't remember the details, but Suede revealed the most foggy element of them all. He spent two days thinking that someone was controlling Sonia, scaring her into behaving like she were made of stone. He was determined for those two days to find out just who it was. Suede was the one who broke the truth to him, once he realized what his human was worrying about. Once L'am knew, he wasn't quite the same. He didn't talk to anyone unless they initiated the conversation and he spent a lot of time simply walking around when he wasn't making himself busy with chores and work. Finally, not long before today, he was starting to go back to normal. The only difference now was that he was actively seeking a certain someone out. Someone he had once been avoiding. She made her move. It was what he had been waiting for. Now he had every excuse to proceed his pursuits.
In the meantime, he took a place on the stands with a few Wingriders and a Weyrling or two. He wasn't really paying them much attention, but if any of them caught him, he'd talk to them as if he were waiting to be greeted all along. He eyed one Candidate in particular with grave interest. The one called Sonia.
-------
It was impossible to ignore Felix once he appeared. He was about to shove him to get that bit of space he was making for himself back. Instead, he glared, let the other boy said what he had to, and was actually somewhat pleased that he wasn't being challenged well enough right here and now. It would take more than a wink and a wasted wish of good luck. Dramix didn't reply in kind because he felt that it was the most controlled attack he could make in response.
Mostly he was nervous, but the dark-haired boy didn't show it with all that defiance about him. He looked as if he would pounce upon Callistath herself if she provoked him. His dusky eyes were focused upon the largest egg aside from the metallic one, though he kept glancing back at the largest as if he dared the Queen inside to be a rebel and Impress a tough guy like him instead of some dinky girl. He didn't care what the 'riders warned about awkward flights. Dramix would get around to those when the time came. There was no way he'd take it for a dragon. He was out here just to prove that he could Impress to one of these overgrown lizards even if they tried to place him high upon the stands. Yet with such an egotistical mentality, he still found it necessary to bully his way to the front of the group. As close as he could get without actually being within mother mauling space.
The pink egg that had been swaying upon the heated sands was finally coming to a halt. The movement was driving Dramix mad. He kept glancing back to the tiny thing only because it was the one egg that had been moving all this time. Now he could keep his attentions on the bigger ones again. The sound of cracking snatched his gaze once more as a bright Green stepped out of the shells she had left behind. A Green. That didn't look impressive at all. Not the least bit intimidating. Dramix wasn't interested in the slightest. He gave her mean glares whenever she glanced at the boys, willing her to choose some other chum. She was everything he hated in an ugly, small, and green form. Dramix made up his mind on the matter. No Green for him.
The next to hatch was a Blue. He was dark, which was decent, and not as puny as the Green that earned his ultimate disapproval. He didn't fool around like his retarded sister did. Dramix wasn't ultimately sure how he felt about this one. Though his attitude and shade of blue were attractive to him, he could use a dragon with more size and more bite. A creature that small won't intimidate anyone. Dramix already had a small creature to deal with. Still, he wouldn't be pissed off if the Blue chose him. The Green and all its sisters of the same color could go between for all he cared. Such girly, sissy little dragons. Those were for the weak.
The Green was stalking off towards the girls; an action that Dramix was satisfied by. That's right. Bugger off. Now the Blue was approaching them and nosing through the boys. Though he wasn't as loathed as his sister, Dramix still let his attention return to the Sands when the next egg hatched. A Black out of a black egg. He was small and stupid looking. Not all Blacks were like that, were they? Wormtail was black, but he wasn't stupid. He knew how to do exactly as Dramix told him. That larger creature of the same hide was nothing like his wonderfully submissive flitter. It was a stupid beast. He would not be given any further thought. Dramix turned to the Blue again as he was making his way through the boys. If he didn't Impress to him, he'd be fine. A lot more eggs were still out there, and bigger ones to boot. Dramix might simply Impress one of those beasties instead.

Was it really happening? No, she must have been imagining things. Tieler’s gaze shot to the face of the other Candidate’s, gauging their reactions to what was going on. Everyone looked just as intrigued, if not more intrigued, than she herself was. Most were gasping as the final bits of shell broke away from the first dragonet. Just as Tieler looked back-shortly after the gasps-a beautiful Green emerged. She seemed to be most interested in the males, and Tieler kept a good eye on her as she swayed over towards them. Then they seemed to bore her and she shot a glance at the females. At this point Tieler was holding her breath, not really able to sum up just what she was feeling. Did she want this Green? Perhaps, perhaps not. She couldn’t really decide, maybe it’s because the Green itself was indecisive.
Oh! And then a brilliant Blue broke free from its restraining egg, and the Green seemed to be trying to gain its attentions. What a silly Green, she would most surely be a flighty one, that! When the Blue seemed disinterested Tieler laughed, thoroughly amused by these differing dragonets. Tieler felt for the Green-yes felt-for it seemed disappointed and irritated with the Blue when it turned back to the female Candidate’s. Again Tieler was holding her breath, but there was really no need, for it walked straight up to a blond girl she’d never met before. She’d seen Catori in passing, but that was all. She clapped for her, feeling that it was the right thing to do. Not that she ever did the right thing, per say, but she was letting today be opposite day.
She looked back over to the Blue, her mouth nearly ajar when a Black hatched. It was gorgeous. A larger version of Eclipse. When it went to the boys she felt something akin to... What was it? She didn’t know. Did she ever know? She hated emotions. She failed at describing them, or understanding them, and most of all controlling them. As she gave it a bit more thought she realized it was most definitely disappointment with a pinch of regret.
Regret that she couldn’t be good enough for it. Would she be good enough for any of them? A sinking feeling was creating a wretched pit in her stomach. She wrapped an arm around her waist, eyes narrowing. She wouldn’t give-in to this, it was just stupid nonsense. She finally spotted Lesa when she looked back for the millionth time, and that was because the girl was right beside her. After she greeted her, and claimed that she had been looking for her as well, Tieler smiled sweetly.
”Well I must admit, I was looking for you too Lesa!” she dared to say. So what if she didn’t want to stand here alone? Was Lesa feeling the same as she was? That was the main thing that she wanted to know. She wouldn’t ask, but she’d judge for herself if and when the girl revealed something. ”Yeah, its, uh--,” Should she just say what she was feeling? Fine, fine. ”It’s truly amazing. I’ve never witnessed anything like this,” she replied.

C'fael was ecstatic - R'sey was getting over his sulk enough to talk to him! They'd had a wonderful time talking all through the afternoon, catching up with eachother and plotting how to break this fellis-ring, or at least make it more apparent what was going on (as C'fael, at least, didn't want to hurt F'del if the ring broke too fast - he was too close to A'mor now to want to hurt the other man's best friend that way... even if a fellis addiction was very bad for him). The blond had just finished a run through of his weyr, grabbing his Knights board (R'sey would surely be up for a game!) when two things happened to assure him that the game was going to have to be put on hold. Ansyth began to hum, and gave him a message. C'faelmine, Oveth's wants us to go to the Hatching Sands to help them - Healings.
Shards! Duty called, however, he reminded himself, putting down the board and picking up his additional Healing supplies, the ones he didn't carry around with him everywhere, a supplemental kit. Let's go, Syth. We'd best get a move on, don't want to miss the Hatching! That above all was why they went. Not just because it was duty: it was a Hatching. They wouldn't miss it! Especially not with Lesa on the Sands, and Medusa... Lesa would never forgive him, and well... oh shells, her parents! A hurried thought to Basker set the black blinking between - they could get here themselves, quick enough, he was sure. Two Master Healers, stationed at Healer Hall, right below Fort, friendly to the dragonriders? They'd be here be-timed, if needs be.
C'fael didn't bother with his straps, holding tight to Ansyth with his legs only as the brown surged up under him and away, joining the crowd heading to the Hatching Sands. Ansyth landed quietly beside Oveth, nodding a bow to Kalith and Callistath. No need for more of a greeting, he figured - besides, they were much too busy to get insulted by him. He hoped. The blond head on his neck slid down a shoulder, landing lightly. "Here, B'nyur!" his gray eyes were wide and excited - though he at least took a moment to search out and wink at Lesa as she hurried by. Good luck to her and his patient-girl.

Nyat certainly expected the pink egg that was rocking back and forth almost hypnotizingly to reveal a pink. It was small enough and that kind of thing. So while he watched the pink rock back and forth, he peered around, trying to spot Myra. It didn't take him long to see his friend, and he grinned in her direction. He was glad he'd gotten to share this experience with her, even they were quite far apart. With the two separate groups of Candidates, you could only look in the direction of those of the opposite gender of you, and not watching the eggs on the Hatching Sands was not the brightest idea around.
Shifting his weight to be more on his right foot than his left, Nyat returned to watching the eggs in time to see the pink egg that had, though Nyat wasn't aware of it, stopped its rocking, begin to split open. The green that hatched was a perfectly lovely green, though shadowed in the lighting that she was standing in. She seemed to be looking at the male Candidates, writing off each one as she glanced in their direction. Nyat didn't suppose he was too surprised by the fact that she didn't seem interested in the males, since greens went either way, Impression wise.
And the green was already looking at the girls, Nyat relaxed slightly, going back to eying the eggs. He figured that if she Impressed, he'd be clued in by the clapping, and if she didn't, well no harm, no foul in watching the other eggs. Watching the eggs turned out to serve him right, as a blue and black egg began to rock. He eyed it silently as it split open to reveal a dark blue, who stepped from his egg and shook the shards from his hide.
The green waltzed back onto Nyat's radar when she walked up towards the blue in a manner that seemed to be attempting to be flirty. It mostly looked awkward, from what Nyat could tell, not that he knew much about dragon flirting. Anyways, the blue seemed to be entirely uninterested in the green's attempts. Nyat shook his head slightly, just as amused by the blue as he was by the green's display.
It didn't take long before the green snubbed him, however, stomping off towards the females. Nyat watched the green for a few seconds, then glanced back towards the blue, who was headed towards the males. That was a promising sign. One dragon for the males, one for the females. After a moment, he tore his gaze from the blue to watch the green. He didn't want to miss a minute of this Hatching, and that meant watching the green. Perhaps the green would Impress to someone he knew, and if he'd missed that, what kind of friend would he be?
Then the smattering of applause drew Nyat from his thoughts, and he brought his hands together automatically. Well, it looked the green had Impressed, but not to anyone he knew. Still, it was worth watching. He'd seen the first Impression of the Hatching, and even if he didn't know the girl the green had gone to, it was still nice to know what every dragon had Impressed to.
After another glance in the direction of the blue, Nyat shot his gaze in the direction of the eggs, discovering that a tiny black had hatched from the small black egg while he'd watched the green Impress. The little hatchling had hidden under his large wings, looking almost as if he was trying to hide from the world.
The timid black didn't hold his attention for long. With only those two dragons on the sands so far, not including the green who'd gone off and Impressed, and the blue was actually headed towards the males, not hiding beneath his wings. And if any dragon went on a rampage, it was probably going to be the blue.
So Nyat watched the blue.
--
Rayna didn't bother looking through the Candidates to see if there was anyone she knew in the other group. Even if there were, Rayna didn't particularly care. Not much of anything was important when compared to the chance of Impressing to a dragon. With that logic, Rayna stared at the eggs, silently willing one of them to hatch and reveal her lifemate. The pink egg was rocking back and forth, and then quite still. A few seconds passed, and then it began to rock back and forth, a crack appearing. A few seconds after that, and she was staring as the egg cracked open to reveal a lovely green.
The green that hatched seemed to be interested in the males, so Rayna watched her for a few more seconds before glancing back towards the eggs. While the green looked over the males, declaring each one of them to be unworthy, Rayna was watching the eggs with baited breath, waiting for the next egg to hatch. When the green went to look over the girls, Rayna was blissfully unaware of the fact that the green was looking over the females as she stared at the eggs.
Finally, the black and blue egg in the middle row began to rock, splitting open quite neatly to reveal a nice, dark blue. Rayna grinned at the sight of another dragon, even as the blue stepped from his egg and shook the shards of the egg from his hide. He looked fairly big for a blue, but for all she knew, he'd outgrow that.
The second time Rayna noticed the green (the first being when she Hatched) was when she advanced on the blue dragon. It almost seemed as if the green was trying to be flirtatious, but it didn't come across as flirtatious, it mostly just looked wannabeish. Like the green was wanting to flirt but had no experience, which wasn't very surprising. The blue seemed uninterested as the green circled around him, peering at every inch of his hide, and Rayna watched the interaction intently. Perhaps one of these dragons would be her lifemate.
The thought of her plans was disbanded. The Hatching was more important than her plans; she might just walk away with a newly hatched dragonet today, if everything panned out, if her dragon hatched. What did plans matter when that opportunity was there?
Rayna was dragged back into the present, distracted from her thoughts, when the green turned and stomped off from the blue, seeming displeased. The blue didn't seem to care, heading in the direction of the males as the green headed towards the girls. Rayna followed the path of the green, eyes wide. The green looked over the girls, seeming to be quite a picky little thing about who she went to. Instead of heading quickly for the first Candidate that had grabbed her attention (if any of them had), the green was looking them all over. Interesting.
Then the green moved, Impressing to a girl Rayna had never met. While the girl was disappointed, she was aware that there were more chances to Impress and that this wouldn't be the only dragon that headed in the directions of the female Candidates. So Rayna clapped absently along with the others, turning her gaze towards the eggs, only to discover that that little black egg in the front had hatched to reveal a very small black, that was currently wrapped in his too large wings, hiding from the world.
With the blue still looking over the males, and the black seeming to cower away from the world, Rayna fixed her gaze on the eggs, keeping an eye on the black from the corner of her gaze. [/blockquote]

"T- ta..." Loto replied to Medusa in more of a squeak than words, that blatantly nervous grin of hers betraying her fear as much as the shaking of her hands. She didn't actively try to hide these feelings, shifting from foot to foot as she glanced almost guiltily at her room mate. However, the word heroes seemed to bolster the girl's spirits. Her hands curled into more determined fists, giving a stronger-looking nod. "Ta! Heroes!"
It wasn't enough to chase away the fear, but it was enough to keep Loto rooted in place; not running away from the sands was the better option right now, even as adrenaline told her run away screaming. She didn't run, but she continued to fidget until she was distracted by the birth of dragons.
The green moved, circling her brother in a way that couldn't help but make Loto's scared-looking smile a little less nervous; the green was so natural, so comfortable with herself on the sands that Loto couldn't help but admire her for it. "Uwaah, so pretty-pretty..." Her words were almost whispered, kind of like it was one big secret as her brown eyes took in the sight of the living, breathing dragons. Her heartbeat was still pounding loudly in her ears, following the blue until the sound of applause distracted her yet again.
Koketeth had found Hers- a girl named Catori! Watching the two unite was something that Loto couldn't help but applaud for as well, they seemed so well matched, so good for one another. She shot a grin to one side towards Myra. Whispers hummed all around her, voices that were familiar and unfamiliar as she shot a wistful glance up towards the stands. No S'fa-papa for her, not yet; not the familiar figure of Junaeth, either.
It was the feeling of eyes that pulled her out of herself, causing her to turn her head towards the eggs- the lurking black held her attention for a long moment. His fear was something she understood intimately, and a concerned but nevertheless empathetic furrow of her brow as she whispered. It was almost like she expected to be heard. "You'll be a hero, too." He hatched, right? Onipa'a. Steadfast, the fact that the black was willing to wait- that was kind of steadfast. Maybe he was brave, in his own way.

If anyone had to guess, it would have been that the little pink egg contained a little Pink dragonet. It seemed as obvious a guess as guessing dragon eggs went, which apparently wasn't very obvious. The pink egg shattered to reveal a Green. Xela watched with keen interest. She would like to ride a Green-- quick, agile, the front line when Thread came. However, not all Greens were created equal, and she wasn't so sure she could deal with the stereotypical Green attitude on a daily basis. This one seemed bad, even for a Green. A Blue hatched-- another good, proper fighter she'd keep her eye on-- and the Green immediately tried to go flirt with him. It was all Xela could do to keep from rolling her eyes. Instead of watching the sickening display, she searched the crowd again for T'el. It wasn't hard to find him. Sju, with his massive size and silvery color, stood out from the colorful assortment of dragons.
Xela gave T'el a small wave. She considered pointing at the Green and making a gagging gesture, but that would have been extraordinarily stupid, standing at the front and in full view of Callistath as she was. She liked her limbs intact, thank you very much. There was a time to act out, and there was a time to be polite. Xela knew where to toe the line. A Hatching, as a Candidate, was the last place on Pern to try anything cute. So, Xela kept her thoughts to herself and turned back to the dragonets, faking utmost fascination with the way the Green was slinking around the Blue. Inwardly, she shuddered. She didn't know how the Green could just throw herself at the Blue like that. The Blue earned a bit of her respect by mostly ignoring the Green. Well, at least one of them had some sense, Xela mused to herself. She wouldn't mind Impressing the Blue.
However, it looked like she wasn't going to. He and the Green parted ways, the Green coming towards their group of girls, and the Blue ambling off towards the boys. Xela held her breath as the Green passed her, but, probably fortunately for her, the Green ignored her and went straight to a Candidate Xela didn't know but whose name she knew was Catori. The first Impression of the night! Xela clapped as enthusiastically as everyone else. She was glad that the Green Impressed elsewhere, but regardless, someone had Impressed! It was a happy occasion no matter the dragonet and the new dragonrider it chose.
Meanwhile, a Black had hatched. Unlike the other two that had hatched, he had no desire to get acquainted with the world. He looked quite scared, quite nervous. Xela wasn't sure whether or not she wanted to Impress him. He didn't seem quite as good as the proud Blue, but, then again, he was still better than the coquettish Green. He'd have to get over his fear of the world or he'd never be a good Threadfighter, though. She withheld her judgment on him. She could work with him. But, then again, it was still extremely early in the Hatching. Hers would come. She or he would be absolutely perfect, as Impressions always were.

Look, Mine! It's Ansyth and... Other Healer!
Oveth said brightly, politely lumbering to his feet to greet the Brown. Faranth, Ansyth had grown! The Brown Weyrling towered over Oveth now. Hello, Ansyth! This is your first big Hatching, right? Oveth said conversationally, pretty sure that he hadn't seen Ansyth at the last one. Or maybe Ansyth was there, but not helping him and B'nyurHis with the poor mauled Candidates? He couldn't remember. Oh, well! It was nothing to fret about! "Oh, good, C'fael, you're here," B'nyur said genially, patting the bit of stone next to him. "Sit down! Hopefully we won't be needed, but if we are, these couple of dragonets don't look much like the trouble-causing ones." He paused for a minute to applaud with the rest of the Weyr at the first Impression, a girl to the pretty, vibrant Green. Then, after making sure the next Impression was a few moments off, he continued. "Healing at Hatching's pretty typical stuff. Almost all of the injuries are Candidates, so that's more up your alley than mine anyway, but a couple of dragonets will try to tear each other up occasionally." He paused again to peer down at the newly-Hatched Black, who seemed reluctant to leave his egg. Scared, but healthy, that was good. "Now, if and when someone does get bloodied up, the first thing is to remember your manners. This is still a Hatching and those are still protective clutchmothers. Generally, it's best to wait until one of the clutchparents sends you to the Sands to treat anyone. Of course, if it's truly an emergency, the rest of the rules get thrown out of the window." B'nyur said this all while mostly watching the Hatching, only giving C'fael the occasional glance-- he wasn't saying anything that would come as a surprise to the Healer. "If a kid does get hurt, I'll probably send you down on Oveth, if you don't mind-- Ansyth is a bit too big, even Oveth is pushing it. Hopefully Lesa will Impress something little. But, any questions?"

. And as quickly as she'd blessed the sands with her presence, the Green had chosen, Impressed to a sweet blonde girl that he recognized from his chores. He knew that girl! His applause joined in with the rest of the cavern, loud and exuberant. With that done, his attentions returned to the sands, where the great Blue was approaching the row of males. Immediately, his eyes widened and his chest constricted, excitement swelling up through him in spades. Blue was a pretty colour. He sucked his bottom lip into his mouth to hold it between his teeth, his hands moving to tightly grip a fistful of robe at his side. His nerves were powerful knots in his gut, but he stood as high as he could manage as he followed the progress of the male. Until movement beyond him caught his attention, bringing his gaze to the cowering black continuing to linger on the sands. It looked so wary, so absolutely frightened by everything around it, and Ezra's heart leaped with sympathy. He wanted to be able to just throw his arms about the tiny thing and make it all better! Of course, as scared as he seemed, such a move would probably be not for the best. That black was certainly nothing like Reyith, but still. He was adorable too. His focus did not immediately return to the blue that studied the boys. Instead, it went to the other candidates around him, smiling to each one that he recognized and to even those that he didn't. He was so giddy and he wanted to express that with the others, to perhaps encourage their own giddiness to the forefront. And it seemed impossible to think that any of them might be anything other than giddy. Then he looked to the great clutchmothers, still impressed by their mighty size, and then he was looking to the other dragons that had gathered. Then their riders, and then everyone else. He almost missed the tall girl, but her wave snagged his eyes back and it clicked. His grin was at its brightest in that moment as he dared to bring a hand up to wave back, wiggling his fingers more than anything, before looking away. It felt nice to know someone had come to see him. More than nice, that was for sure. Briefly, he skimmed back over the crowd in search of anyone else he might recognize, anyone else that might have come for him, but found no one. He didn't let this sting him though. He looked back to find comfort in his good friend Kes before returning his gaze to the sands where hatchlings continued to search for their own.[/ul]

Well, Oveth, Ansyth said, as he settled back on his haunches, I Hatched at the last big Hatching. The larger brown gave a draconic grin at the elder blue and said diplomatically, But as you and yours were busy saving lives and healing hurts, I'm not surprised that you didn't remember.
C'fael took the pro-offered seat, pulling one knee up to loop his arms around it, letting the other trail down to the ground - waiting and watching like a feline. "So general Hatching rules applied to Healing rules - be polite if it's nothing serious, but ignore all niceities to save a life." He nodded, "And I don't mind at all, Ansyth is big, the lug. As long as Oveth doesn't mind, it's fine with me. And... she'll Impress whatever she Impresses. She's... a friend. More like her Ma and Da were my supervisors a time or two. She can handle a large dragon, I'm sure, just as well as she can handle a small - she handles that feline of hers well enough, and Halbert's a big fellow. But no questions, nope. This is going to be... interesting, to say the least."

The Blue continued through the males, looking at each of them individually. No. He felt no love for any of them. No affection. No sense of caring. He just didn't like them. Dismissing each one of them with barely a glance until he found... oh, was this it? Was this His? Yes! This boy was, indeed, His. He approached the boy, and felt an instant connection. Love! He could love. He could definitely feel affection, and this boy was proof of his triumph. The Blue approached him and eyed the boy... making sure, but yes, he was sure. With a slight glance at the Black, he looked back at his chosen and Impressed.
R'rasuMine, your Boulimith is glad he could find you. The others are not worth caring about, he said, sounding quite a bit prideful, but quite affectionate for His. The others? Whatever, not important. He didn't care. Like Koketeth, it could be said that he was picky... though in a far, far more selective way than the Green. But to those he did show affection to, there was a lot of it. A confusing type, he was. And full of pride.
The Black watched the Blue Impress, but didn't move from his spot. He watched the other eggs instead, hoping that maybe, just maybe, one of his clutchmates would take pity on him and guide him to where he needed to Impress. Lucky for him, one of the eggs was hatching. The greenish egg in the middle row, the one covered in white lines, had begun to crack open. The cracks were just as spiderlike as the lines on the egg, thin cracks that were barely even noticeable until the egg finally opened. The pieces of the egg just kind of fell to the side and the dragonet inside showed herself.
It was a Cyan, though a Cyan on the smaller end of the scale. Her hide was light, though not a vibrant light like some of the others. It had a more delicate shade to it, and was a very uniform color all throughout. On her face, however, were darker markings on her eyeridges and behind her eyes. She was thin and well-proportioned, though her tail was a bit longer and thinner, giving it an awkward look. She moved forward and looked around, her eyes whirling with hunger. She was a calm type, it seemed.
The Black caught her attention, and she moved towards him. In a flurry of panic, the Black ran towards the Candidates, the girls especially. The Cyan looked hurt. He'd wanted help, and she'd gone to help him. Why was he so upset? But the Black was extremely panicked by the Cyan's odd gleam to her hide, the fact it wasn't normal and scary and scary and so so scary! He ran straight up to one of the girls, wrapping himself around her legs and shaking.
XarcaMine, XarcaMine! Abnormal things are scary. Vantith is scared. Can we please get food and go away from them, please? he cried to her, clinging to Xarca like his life depended on it. The Cyan looked incredibly hurt by the reaction. She had only been trying to help! She just wanted to help him feel less scared, but she'd only made it worse. But she shook it off and instead moved towards the girls. Hers was over there, somewhere. But her attention was captured by more eggs hatching. Determined to not scare off these dragons, she watched as the blue colored egg in the middle row cracked open to reveal a Pink. She tumbled out of the egg and shook herself off, looking very happy. Her hide was a darker shade of pink, though she didn't have any markings. Her body was a little bulkier than most pinks, and her wings were large. The Pink moved forward through the eggs, looking at each of them. She was looking for someone else, apparently, but the Cyan was hidden from her vision by the large Blue-yellow egg. Which began to shake as soon as the Pink walked over to it. She backed up, watching it curiously, as the large egg began to crack open. The dragonet inside poked a brown foot out, and soon pushed completely out of the egg. It was a Brown, as his foot had shown. He was darker along the back of his neck, and the darker line spread down his back and to the tip of his tail. He climbed out of the egg, gave a slight glance at the Pink, and then turned to walk away from her. But the Pink wasn't going to let her big, strong man get away that easily. She walked next to him, happy and prancy, wrapping herself around him at every chance she could get. She seemed dependant already, wanting to be next him and close to him. But the Brown, who had at first appeared very calm... was apparently very easily annoyed. And he looked angry. He spun on the Pink, whirling in a snarl, ready to lash out at her and send her flying. And the Pink still didn't leave him. Just before the Brown could unleash his fury, the Cyan stepped between them, staring at the Brown until he turned away from them. Whatever. It wasn't worth his effort anyway. He didn't want to fight, afterall. The Pink was just annoying and set off his explosive temper. He eyed her once more, then eyed the Cyan. She, being the mediator, continued standing between them, not going to allow any harm to come or any fights to happen under her watch. After a moment, the Brown gave an annoyed snort and turned to sulk somewhere. Satisfied, the Cyan nudged the Pink off towards the Candidates, and she went off herself. The Pink stopped at the edge and began to search, but the Cyan had known who she wanted since she hatched. It had been the sensible thing to pick right away, though she'd just gotten a bit distracted. That was fine, though. Hers would understand. Everything will be fine between them, MyraMine. Your Avith took care of it. Now, may we get food? She watched Hers calmly, ever patient and understanding. [/blockquote]

L'sd hurried to find a spot for the Hatching. Tabeyiith had been humming with the rest of the eggs, distracting L'sd from feeding Shriek. At first, he was slightly confused, but L'sd quickly set him straight. He then turned to Shriek. He couldn't take that thing to the Hatching. It would be too much of a distraction. And he didn't want the wrath of either of the Queens for that.
He quickly offered the firelizard more meat, more than it usually got. His plan seemed to work, the firelizard soon grew full and sleepy. Perfect he thought with a grin. Tabeyiith gave a draconic smirk. He liked most everyone, but this firelizard was a little too confusing. Why must it always pop out of nowhere and scream like that? It also hurt His. That was a horrible thing to do.
L'sd and Tabeyiith took the dozing flit up to their weyr and sat him, nice and warm, in the furs. Hopefully, he'll stay there, eh, Tab? the boy asked with a grin.Tabeyiith agreed whole-heartedly and soon the pair, sans a firelizard, were off to view the Hatching. The first to Hatch was a green, followed by a blue, than a black. All lovely hatchlings. The green seemed very flirty, even for a green, and walked among the males and females, then towards the blue. Finally, she settled on a female Candidate. The black, to L'sd was very cute indeed. The black settled into the eggshell, seeming quite content. It was very interesting indeed to watch the eggs Hatch up here as opposed to on the Sands. He was sure it must be even weirder for the Jr. Weyrwoman, who was watching her dragon's eggs hatch for the first time.
---
Cheko allowed his focus to return to the Hatching once he was sure Polo wasn't going to leave him anytime soon. He managed to snap into attention as a green popped out. Instantly, she traveled to the boy's first. That was weird. But, if she found Hers, it was fine. Cheko blinked at her as she passed him, not giving him much of a glance at all. He was fine with that, though. He was quite sure a Green would be really chatty. Not like Polo. Polo was nice and quiet. Especially considering no one heard him but Cheko.
No, he needed to focus on the Hatching. Polo was there and now, it was Hatching time! His grin was still plastered on his face, but it grew as more eggs hatched. A blue soon came out. It was big and bulky and was probably almost as big as Cheko even now. He seemed to be a little more decisive than the green though and began heading towards the boys. Perhaps this would be his dragon? The very though made him bounce up and down a little, obviously excited once again for the Hatching. All that worrying. What a waste!
The blue was too slow and the green beat him to the first Impression. Cheko gave a distracted clap for the girl. Was he expected to clap for EVERYONE? That would be crazy. Especially once more dragons began hatching. He didn't even know this girl! He decided. He wasn't going to really clap unless he knew someone. And liked him. Like Myra. That shot his head up and made him crane his neck, wondering if he could see her. Or Xela. Or Rosasharn. Anyone.
This act made him think. Had he really only met girls while he was here? Wow...he really needed some male friends...
What was this? A cyan that had just mediated a fight was approaching one of the girl he had just searched for. Myra! He allowed himself to cheer for her. He really did like her after all.

Whatever dragons were beginning to hatch now were being replaced by more dragons, but Dramix didn't let the circulation trouble him. All the smaller and weaker looking ones were leaving with other Candidates, leaving behind larger and worthier eggs just for him. He smirked with a most sinister look as he eyed the remainder of the clutch. There were still plenty of dragons left. Even if they all hatched but one, the last one would be his. How could they resist? All these pathetic lesser dragons were leaving with pathetic lesser people. None of them could belong to him because they didn't have what it took.
It turned out the Blue he tried to be more approving of ended up Impressing to some chum he didn't know. Big sharding deal. While other people might have clapped for these Impressions, Dramix only seemed to sneer and continue being a spectator along with the other Candidates that hadn't been ceremoniously paired off. The Black only proved to be a larger mistake of a living thing when he fled from his own clutch sibling in fear and made his way to the girls. Good. A sissy dragon should go to a sissy girl. It was only fitting. Had he been stuck with the scaredy cat, he would have likely abandoned it. He had no need for a sad creature like that.
To him, the Cyan that hatched before the Black made his Impression looked like another Green. Dramix suddenly wanted nothing to do with her despite knowing nothing about her personality. In his mind, Green was the equivalent of failure. Failure to the dragon species as a whole. He didn't care if they were supposed to be more agile and therefore useful during Threadfall. Do you really think he paid any attention to the use of dragons on Pern? He knew as much as this; dragonriders were saucy bastards that were only useful once every two hundred turns or so to fight off some spores that fell from the sky. Big. Sharding. Deal. That's what flamethrowers were for, weren't they? So what he started to believe, and it was really sticking until now, was that dragons were simply status symbols. You know you're dealing with a pompous wherry's ass when you're dealing with a dragonrider.
So why did Dramix want to become one?
Power symbol. That was another little feature that came with having a dragon by your side. Though Dramix was relatively fearless and had tried to attack handlers and riders before, he did practice restraint once in a while if a dragon looked particularly fierce. It all depended on the kind of ferocity as well. For instance, that Bronze that started stomping around the day Callistath laid her eggs didn't scare Dramix a whole lot, but the sound of Callistath's steady and serious threat made him turn his tail and 'flee' {without any actual running of course}. If he had a dragon that commanded the same respect, he'd have it made. No more trying to pick fights once in a while just to remind everyone who's boss. He'd simply be the boss. {Like a boss.}
Dramix had no interest in the Cyan he mistook for a Green, so he watched the blue egg anticipating a Blue to hatch only to be confronted by yet another color he despised. A Pink. The Searchrider that brought him here rode a Pink. It didn't speak to him, which he was grateful for, but the color itself...and that disposition...it was sickening. He didn't want nothing to do with it. He'd certainly be someone's bottom if he Impressed to that thing. The disgustingly pink creature stopped by one of the larger eggs as it began to make crackling sounds. A brown foot poked out before the rest of the dragon inside pushed through.
Now that was more like it. This dragon was much larger than some of the others that hatched so far. He didn't look impressive as far as color went; Browns were so bland in appearance that they didn't stand out too much. Dramix had probably spotted a few before and failed to really recognize them. Unlike Bronzes they didn't have a sheen to them. They blended in where ever. That could be good, but it didn't do much to help his case. What really won Dramix over about the Brown was his attitude. They way he showed that flirtatious Pink up was admirable. That's right. Shove off pinky. Go Impress to a girl or something. That ought to show her. He wondered for a second if they could hear his thoughts. He wouldn't have thought any different if they could. Dramix was all about sincerity.
The Brown did disappoint him a little when the Cyan managed to deter him from showing that Pink who was in charge. He shouldn't have let that tiny thing stop him. Dramix clenched and unclenched his fists and wondered what he might have been like if he were a dragon. He'd probably be the biggest of them all, stomping about, speeding up this process so that he and everyone else could go home. It was hot out here and he was beginning to sweat it. Even in mid-Winter he preferred the cold to the heat.

Nyat watched the blue advance, continuing to search through the male Candidates, looking for just the perfect male. When the blue passed by him, he felt . . . disappointed, he supposed, but with so many eggs in this one clutch, Nyat bounced back quickly. After all, for all he knew, the blue could double back and pick him, which wasn't very likely, but it was possible. And even if he didn't, there were so many other eggs. There were so many more chances to Impress that he refused to let two dragonets Impressing put a damper on his spirits.
When the blue Impressed, Nyat was watching him from the corner of his eye, and with a smile on his face, he clapped loudly for the boy. Whoever the boy was, Nyat was happy for him. Still, Nyat wasn't going to remain fixated on that one dragon for long. That blue was gone and Impressed, leaving only the black on the sands, and the other eggs twitching.
Turning his gaze back towards the eggs, Nyat watched the black for a second or two, though when the black didn't seem inclined to move from his spot and stop staring at the eggs. When he decided that, Nyat glanced past the black to stare at the eggs, noting when an egg in the middle row began to crack open. The color mostly passed right through his mind, as entranced as he was by the lines spreading out across the egg until it cracked open to reveal a small Cyan. She was a lovely light Cyan in coloring, with darker markings on her face, from what Nyat could tell, though those markings could just be lighting. He wasn't entirely sure, but he suspected they were actually there, not just the lighting. He'd been wrong the first time he'd thought an oddity to the hide was just the lighting, after all.
The calm looking Cyan seemed to notice the Black, moving towards him for reasons unknown to Nyat. He wasn't going to bother trying to figure out why a hatchling did something. His thoughts were smoothly interrupted by the black fleeing towards the female Candidates. Yet another dragon headed for the females, it seemed. The Cyan looked hurt when Nyat glanced back in the direction of the eggs, once writing off the Black as a dragonet who wasn't interested in the males.
A quick glance in the direction of the female Candidates proved that the black had, in fact, Impressed to one of the girls. Yet another familiar face, if not a familiar name. He'd seen the girl that the black had Impressed to around, but he didn't know her personally. Zar something, was it?
Nyat clapped for the Impression of the newest Weyrling, but his attention was already focused on the Cyan. She looked quite hurt by the Black's reaction, from what he could tell.
When the Cyan glanced towards the blue egg in the middle row that Hatched to reveal a Pink, Nyat looked in the same direction, noting the darker, bulkier pink with a nod, watching her movements through the eggs. The Cyan seemed to be hidden from the Pink's view by the large egg she was trodding behind, which began to shake as soon as the pink passed by it. Nyat had to crane his neck to see the Hatching of the brown, who, like many dragonets of this clutch, it seemed, had markings on his hide. The brown glanced in the direction of the Pink, and then was walking away.
Nyat observed this all with interest, especially as the Pink chased after the Brown, prancing near him. Nyat had suspected that the Brown was a calm beast, but his suspicion proved wrong when he whirled on the pink with a snarl, looking ready to send the Pink sprawling. If Nyat had been the Pink, he would've beat a hasty retreat at that point, he reflected when the Pink didn't move.
He was fairly worried about the state the Pink would be in when the Brown was done with her, but even as he thought this, the Cyan stepped between them, staring at the Brown until he turned away, heading off. Nyat smiled to himself. The antics of Hatchings never got old, and here no one cared about how you acted as long as you observed proper etiquette.
The Pink stopped at the edge of the Candidates, searching for Hers, perhaps, but the Cyan moved surely towards Hers, settling down in front of the first Candidate that Nyat knew. Myra. Myra had Impressed a Cyan? Lucky her. Very lucky her. He was happy for his friend, and he clapped his hands together enthusiastically. Somewhere, he was most definitely jealous that his friend had gotten to Impress, but Nyat wasn't going to let that come to the surface of his mind. He was going to be happy for his friend, not jealous.
With that firm thought, he grinned in Myra's direction, just in case she was looking, and turned his gaze back towards the eggs. He was happy for his friend, yes, but he also wanted to see if there was a dragon of his own in this clutch.
--
The Blue was still moving through the male Candidates, Rayna noted in the back of her mind. The dragon wasn't very high on the list of things she was paying attention to, as his Impression to a male seemed assured to the female Candidate. And, in fact, the Blue did Impress to one of the boys, one that Rayna vaguely remembered seeing once or twice, but certainly didn't know. Rayna hadn't really been interesting in knowing people, so that wasn't all that surprising. Clapping absently, it was clear that Rayna's heart wasn't in it. She wasn't particularly happy for the boy, but she wasn't exactly jealous, either. She merely didn't care. It had been clear from when the Blue had first started looking for His that he'd been intending to get a male Candidate
Rayna also vaguely noticed that the Black hadn't moved. He was silently staring at the eggs, as if expecting one of them to come and help him. Rayna looked vaguely amused at the thought, but most of her attention was claimed by the twitching egg in the middle row, one that was covered by cracks, leaving the Candidates hanging as to the color until at last it spilled open, revealing a small, light Cyan. An infamous Cyan, it seemed. How very interesting. Well, not really. Not unless the Cyan decided to head for the females, but since she was busy heading towards the Black that had hatched earlier, Rayna merely eyed the two, entirely uninterested until the Black sprinted towards the female Candidates, wrapping himself around a girl nearby her's legs and shaking.
Rayna didn't particularly envy the girl that the spooked little thing had Impressed to, but she clapped all the same, the same, halfhearted clapping she'd given for the Blue and His. With the Cyan still on the Sands, she was mostly watching the female fighter, only a small part of her mind delegated to figuring out when to clap and the like.
The Cyan looked hurt by the Black's reaction, Rayna noted. She felt kind of bad for the Cyan as she imagined herself being considered scary enough to be worthy of a wild fleeing like that. But that image was gone as quickly as it had come, and Rayna was staring at the eggs, her moment of pity gone as she stared at the blue egg that was twitching. She didn't have long to stare, as a dark, bulky, well, for a Pink, anyways, Pink hatched from her egg.
Straightening up from her slouched stance to watch the Pink's movements through the eggs, seeming to have forgotten about the Cyan entirely, barely making out the form of the Pink behind the blue-yellow egg, which, from what she could tell, had begun to rock as the Pink passed it. Squinting to make out the dragon that had cracked the egg that the Pink had been passing open, Rayna was interested to notice that it was a Brown. A Brown with darker markings on the back of his neck all the way down to the tip of his tail. Many of the dragonets from this Hatching seemed to have markings, Rayna noted.
The Brown walking away from the Pink drew Rayna's attention back to the Hatching as the Pink chased after the Brown, all happy and such. The Brown seemed fairly calm, however, so Rayna figured he could deal with her, and with no drama to eye, she went back to watching the eggs, only spying from the corner of the eye the Brown rounding on the Pink.
Fast as greased lightning, her eyes were back on the Pink and the Brown, watching them eagerly. Hatching drama was the best part of a Hatching! It passed the time very well without letting one think of their lack of Impression. However, Rayna's entertainment wasn't to be as the Cyan stepped between the Brown and the Pink, staring at the Brown until the Brown turned away. The Cyan seemed to be the mediator of the Hatching so far, ending the drama before it could start. Whether that was good or bad, Rayna wasn't entirely sure, but as the Pink and the Cyan headed for the Candidates, she had to admit that she was glad that they hadn't fought. Someone would've had to Impress to the unhappy and probably mauled dragonet, so she supposed it was good that the danger had been avoided.
The Pink stopped at the edge of the Candidates, appearing to search for Hers, but the Cyan did no such thing, heading straight for a female Candidate and settling down at her feet. Rayna clapped more enthusiastically this time than she had for the others, if only because she'd actually been watching the Cyan Impress. Even as her hands came together, though, she was watching the eggs, and eying the Pink from the corner of her eye.
Watching the eggs wasn't so bad. Not very many of them had hatched, and even fewer had Impressed. The odds were in favor of her Impressing, though odds hardly mattered. All that mattered was that your dragonet was out there on the Sands, and if your dragonet wasn't out there, the odds being in favor of you Impressing didn't matter.
With a frown, Rayna shook such thoughts from her mind. It wouldn't do to think of such things! She'd heard rumors about dragonets not liking negative thoughts, and didn't intend to screw with her chances to Impress. [/blockquote]

Matren was every bit as nervous and excited as he had been during the last Hatching, although he repressed the urge to bounce on his heels; he suspected that that would be deemed inappropriate. "They truly are beautiful creatures," he murmured to himself, clasping his hands behind his back to resist the urge to fidget. As the blue passed him, he felt... something brush his mind. But the blue continued on, without glancing back at him. Matren sucked at his lip, but didn't do anything else. After the first Hatching, and the change he had seen in the Ridgerunner Weyrlings, he wanted to Impess as well; the loneliness of the months spent lost at sea still plagued him from time to time. The dolphins had helped, somewhat, but their visits had been sporadic at best, and their communication with him always vague and hard to understand, even once he had begun to learn the meanings behind the various clicks and whistles they used. I just don't want to be alone any more, Matren thought to himself, his gaze flicking away from the eggs for a moment, before returning to them.

Myra was completely stunned.
At first, the Cyan seemed...curious. It had made its way to the black almost immediately, which proved that theory. Maybe it was trying to be helpful? She really didn't know. It was cute though, but then again they all were.
Then the pink and brown seemed to be at each other's throats, and at this Myra flinched. Hopefully there would be no blood on the Sands this day. It would have been sad if a dragonet went /between/ on its first day of life! It seemed so cruel. But as she thought of the negative, the cyan popped into the scene.
It was a pretty bold move on her part, and inwardly Myra was rooting it on. 'Gooooooo you! Show that big mean dragon who's boss!' As if on cue to her mental thoughts. the brown stalked off, and the pink was nudged to the female group by the motherly cyan. Whoever she Impressed sure would be a lucky one!
As the pink eyed her and the other females, the cyan immediately made her way toward...her? 'What? No way. I'm sure it's the girl behi-' A mental voice cut through her thought as they hatchling sat before her, eyes blinking rapidly. "M-m-m-me?" was all the girl could stutter, shakily pointing to herself. When the newly pronounced Avith nodded in calm response, Myra couldn't help but squeal and curl her arms around her. "You're the best!" she chirped, releasing the dragonet in order to escort her away from the crowd at to some food. "I'd love to get you some food!" With that, she beamed in the direction of Nyat and Checko and gave the two boys a thumbs up and a wink that said something along the lines of 'You guys will Impress! I'm proud of you!'
---
That certainly was a good show, for such newly hatched creatures. Katheryne thought that the dragonets were a bit flashy...especially that green and now both the pink and the brown...If she did Impress, she hoped that her bonded wouldn't be like that. What could be worse than having a dragon who was more outgoing than its rider? It would be slightly pathetic, and Katheryne had to dismiss the thought before she became too annoyed.
She clapped for the ones who'd just Impressed, then she turned her eyes back to the eggs. What would hatch next? It seemed the egg shells contained not what their colors represented. And that, to Kat, made it more exciting. How boring it would be if they knew the colors before they really hatched! With a sigh she continued watching, once again wiping sweat from her forehead. This was going to be a long, long day.
---
Junaeth hummed softly as he and H'eath quietly dropped beside A'tra atop the Stands. He was only there to watch Loto, and to make sure that the Hatching went well. Besides, there wasn't anything else to do today, since all activities were stopped thanks to this event...so what elsse did they have to lose?
H'eath nodded toward the fellow rider, then scanned the females for her. And without much searching he found her, nervously standing, awaiting her judgment. Poor thing. He remembered how frightened he was when he was a Candidate. /And you Impressed the best dragon there ever was./ Junaeth interrupted the bluerider, and he laughed silently at the words. "Yes, I did indeed. Let us hope that our friend below gets to Impress as well, shall we?" Junaeth nodded his head once as his wings folded into his body, and the two settled down to watch.
The self-proclaimed heroes couldn't miss their ward's Impression.

More Impressions! Samael was so happy for them. First, that big blue, and then the tiny frightened black. She hoped they'd be alright with their riders - especially the black. He was quite the nervous fellow, wasn't he? That cyan was just trying to help him, after all, and he went and ran off. It was just the cyan, then, and she had Sam's full attention for a while until there were more. They were just hatching like crazy!
The pink and brown that came we just as captivating as all the dragons before them. Then... the brown snarled. That released a couple reactions from Samael. One, she was worried. Dragons weren't supposed to fight! Having two babies fight would just be dreadful... But then again, it was triggering a few nostalgic memories in her mind of fights in the mud puddles and watching the boys aggravate canines so they'd attack each other. These boyish tendencies actually made her feel really guilty right now, but still, maybe it would be amusing? If the dragons fought, that is. Just as long as neither of them really got hurt...
No, Sam. No. You're not your stupid boy-self, she corrected, shoving that from her head, because really - that wasn't very nice at all. It was a good thing the cyan stepped in. Oh, well, wasn't she a hero! It was definitely for the best, because then the pink and her cyan savior went off. Another Impression! That just left the pink and brown on the sands, though... Would he go at her again? Hopefully not.
---
Isintier was infatuated with it all. Watching all of these new dragons hatch into the world and find their lifemates was touching. More intriguing than that, though, was watching them interact. They all had their own personalities, just like humans. No - different than humans. Some seemed far more over-the-top than humans tended to be. It had him hooked, no doubt about it. Even the dispute between the pink and brown had him fascinated rather than worried or shocked. They all wanted to be themselves, without anyone interfering. They knew what they wanted. Their determination was clear. To see something so young be so strong right off the bat was definitely something else. He didn't bother fighting off the warm fuzzy feeling in his tummy. It was most welcome.
Briefly, he looked around to things other than the dragons. He saw Lesa. Was that that dancing Kaitecoon fellow back there? He couldn't see Xlire, though, but he recognized all of the candidates from the lesson not long after Callistath's clutching misadventure. He wished them all good luck in his mind, because everyone deserved a little good luck. Even the snarkier of the bunch did - no one was bad enough not to, in his opinion. Some people were just different and less agreeable. It didn't mean they were bad or lost. With all the eggs, there would be many new weyrlings. They were the hopefuls. WE are the hopefuls. A soft smile touched him.
He clapped for each Impression as it came, and it wasn't out of tradition or etiquette. He really, truly believed they deserved the applause. [/blockquote]

It had taken Sayami a few minutes to realise what was going on when the stables around her seemed to suddenly empty. Realization crossed her face before she hastily rubbed her hands off on a few handfuls of straw, grabbing the bag she'd had nearby and darting out of the stables. Hurrying across the dusty Weyrbowl, she reached into the bag, pulling out the white robe stuffed inside. Shaking it for a moment to try and rid it of some of the wrinkles, she carried on moving, pulling the robe over her head and on over her clothing underneath, adjusting it to cover her legs properly.
Lowering her gaze down to the robe, she brushed at it, removing random pieces of straw and hay that had managed to become attached to the white robe whilst in her bag. Pausing a few steps from the entrance to the Hatching Sands, the pale-skinned Candidate ran her eyes over her robe again, hands brushing absently at her hair in an attempt to make sure that it wasn't sticking up or ridiculously messy. Steeling herself by closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she stepped forward into the tunnel leading to the Hatching Sands, seeing other Candidates moving ahead of her, and also hearing them behind her in the tunnel
Moving out of the tunnel amidst the chattering group of Candidates around her, Sayami was hard-pressed not lock her legs and gaze around at the vast sand-filled area, and the two Clutch-mothers and their riders behind the eggs, which were spread out a short distance in front of where the Candidates were gathering.
Moving forward along with the others, Sayami bowed along with the others, already able to see that a small number of eggs had hatched, and all but two of those had already Impressed. Eyes flickering over the remaining eggs as best she could, given that she wasn't the tallest there, it became obvious that the only two un-Impressed still were the Pink Hatchling, and the Brown Hatchling.

A light smile - Tieler was being sincere about her looking, Lesa felt. The two could actually be tentatively be called friends. Or well, Lesa already would call them friends. Tieler was likely the one hesitant about the distinction. Still she kept her gaze on the blue and black and brown and pink. The green had already been applauded as she Impressed: flirty thing, going right for her brother like that! The Harper hoped the girl that had Impressed her would be able to deal with the flirt that her green was. Lesa never would be able to deal with it - flirting wasn't her thing, and dealing with the men (and women) that would follow after her because of the green would drive her insane - or to become as abrasive as Tieler. Neither would be good.
"Good thing I found you, eh? More fun to take part with a friend." she murmured as the blue made his definite choice, and the black scrambled to the girl he wanted to save him from the world. The cyan dealing with that... bully (Dramix) of a brown and that flirty (again, flirty females here!) pink was gorgeous. And the cyan quickly Impressed. Good for that girl - she'd have a levelheaded bond, at least. Then again, a cyan - they were all levelheaded. It was a given that they had the steadiness of the blues they were like, to balance out their being female like greens.
Lesa stepped to the side slightly, moving out of a late Candidate's way. The blonde girl was lucky Kalith hadn't eaten her, the Harper thought to herself as she moved towards Tieler. Kalith was the stickler for being on time - though it seemed Callistath was following in her mother's footsteps, in addition to demanding a higher form of manners. But they were Queens, they were royalty - it was expected. It was a given.
An absent look, part glare for being late, part just plain awe for their surroundings was directed to the blonde, before Lesa turned back to Tieler, grinning as she moved back that step away.
"There aren't words for this.... it's everything and more than anyone's ever described. No wonder there's so many stories about it," she finally said softly, smiling and clapping and just taking it all in.

The Pink was still searching through the girls for Hers, keeping far away from the Brown. She was sooo devoted to him, and she sooo loved him, but he definitely did not love her. So she would just keep away from him, no problem, no problem. She continued to weave herself through the girls, pushing past Belphegor (who gave a quiet squeak and almost fell over, but she managed to remain steady) and Samael, weaving in between them and through other girls as she went along her way. She seemed to just enjoy having lots of people around her. She loved people! Who needed to be independant when she could have lots and lots of friends?
While she was still going through the Candidates, the Brown remained where he sat, watching the Candidates with a calm eye. He really wasn't a violent sort, he just had a temper and he couldn't control himself sometimes, that was all. He watched the Pink, looking almost guilty that he'd pushed her away so angerly, but then he stood. He was calm, he was collected, and as long as nothing made him angry, he would be fine. The Brown moved towards the males, not in any sort of rush, just taking his time as he walked towards them. It wasn't the attention he cared about, really. He just wanted to take it easy.
As the Brown took his sweet time going over to the boys, the other eggs shook. The egg colored in firery oranges and reds shook carefully, precisely. The dragonet inside moved and the egg snapped in half, falling in shards around a Green dragonet. She was a bit serpentine in her shape, with shorter legs and a longer body, but it wasn't enough to make her look entirely strange. She was very darkly colored with lighter spots all along her hide. It gave her an odd, sort of bubbly look, but this dragon was anything but bubbly, not like the Pink that was still weaving through the girls. This Green definitley knew what she wanted and how to get it. And she would push Hers. Did she already know who Hers was? No, but she was going to diligently search and find out.
But before the Green could make her move, the lightly colored Blue egg in the back row started to shake and cracked open to reveal a deeply colored Blue. His hide wasn't neon, but it was quite vibrant. He was a thin little thing too, smaller than most Blues with dark patches of blue on his forhead and around his face. He looked... happy. Well, as happy as a newly hatched dragonet could look. He was radiating energy, though that might just be because of he noises he was making. Quite enjoying the fact that he was out of that cramped egg, the Blue made odd little trills and noises, testing out his sound range.
This annoyed the hard-working Green, who immediately spun to face him. She gave him the draconic version of a disapproving look, sitting in his path and not letting him move. When he tried to move around her, the Green simply moved to the side to block his path some more. Though he should have been annoyed, the Blue simply continued to make his noises, making the Green work even harder by moving back and forth quickly. Finally having enough of this, she stuck out one of her legs and tripped him as he darted back and forth, sending the Blue sprawling across the Sands and almost into the Brown. It hadn't been done in a mean-spirited way, she just had to show the Blue that what he was doing was wrong. Just pushing him a little in the right direction. Was that so wrong?
Either way, it seemed to set the Brown off, and he spun on the Blue... and tensed. Would he attack? Could he control himself? It appeared that the call of hunger was overshadowing his anger, as well as his desperate need to find someone to control his violent temper. So the Brown ignored the carefree Blue, turning instead to the Candidates, walking straight up to the boy he'd been approaching all along.
M'trenMine, your Esprith doesn't want to hurt anyone. Take me to get food so we can both calm down, his voice was quiet and passive, not strong like his actions would have shown. He just wanted to live peacefully and not let his temper get set off. He was definitely counting on his rider to keep his temper in check, because obviously he couldn't do it himself. He also did sense a lot of anxiety coming from His... but there was strength there, too. They would both learn self-control over time.
Brown: Simple, passive, explosive temper. -Esprith [peace] [8A3324]
The Blue watched the Brown Impress and got to his feet, eyeing the Candidates, and then his pushy Green sister. The Green, ignoring the Blue with all of her will-power, kept diligently searching through the girls. Hers was around here somewhere, she knew it. And the Green was definitely not going to give up until she- aha! there was Hers. She'd just missed her when she'd been distracted by the Blue. Faibeth found you, GaigeMine, she declared triumphantly, Can we go get food, now? she asked, but it was almost a command with the way she said it. She was quite pushy... and would definitely push hers a bit to get what they wanted. But nothing was wrong with a little forced-stress to move them both forward!
Green: Diligent, pushy, strong-willed -Faibeth [weak] [004F39]
The Blue, not taking the cue from his clutchmates, just continued to look through the males at his own pace. Who need to hurry, man? Slow down, there was no rush. He wanted to enjoy life too, like Esprith... he was just lucky enough to have a calm, carefree attitude about it, rather than stressed out. He liked to make noise, too, that was important, and now that the Green wasn't there to push him around, he was free to surf through the males and make happy noises. The Pink glanced over at him every now and then, but decided he wasn't strong enough for her to cling to. He was weaker than her! So she'd just have to continue trying to find Hers. That wasn't a problem. She'd take her time too, and it was okay, because her Blue clutchsibling was also taking his time. So if both of them were doing it, that made it perfectly fine to wait! When the Blue impressed, Tieler had to tear her eyes away. The sight was far too... touching? Ew, had she just thought the word ‘touching?’ She was seriously going to need a long shower after this hatching, and some definite sleep. She snuck a glance at the Blue and his newly impressed rider, her face contorting. To most, it would look fairly odd the expressions she was making after each impression, very odd indeed. It was like she was uncomfortable, yet proud, all at the same time. She really hoped Lesa was paying far more attention to the hatching than she was to her. ’Of course she is, you arrogant girl.' Looks like her mind was still active in putting her down.
The impression of the Black dragonet was harder to watch, for again she had the reminder of her black flitt, sleeping oh so happily on her bunk. She reached her mind out to him, sending intentional waves of love. It put him into an even deeper sleep. She put her arms up behind her head, staring in a very focused-manner at Xarca and her new Black Vantith. It was a perfect match, they were all perfect matches. Even if she didn’t know the person, she got a sense of the dragon, and how much they cared about theirs, and it was just... perfect. She bit down hard on her tongue inside of her mouth, nearly drawing blood. She had to divert her focus off of these feelings and grasp on to anything, anything at all. Her mind fed on the pain, and soon the taste of a hint of blood. She swallowed it down with some saliva, her swallow sounding quite like a gulp. She shut her eyes for an instant, re-opening them to the new place that the Cyan now stood.
It had protected the other, and made a fine name for itself. She had so much respect for it, already, and as such, respect for whom it bonded to. Myra must have been a great person. As each impression was made she knew the names of both the dragonet’s and the Candidate’s that she had not before met. She tried to keep them all in her memory banks, though difficult to do. There was just too many, far too many. She stared at the Cyan and her new rider like she’d done with the Black and his rider. But this time, there was no looking away, and no matter how hard she bit down on her tongue, the pain would not come into proper focus. She huffed out a puff of air, and her arms fell to her sides. She swung them, needing to keep on moving, yes, to be still was a near impossibility.
And here it was the result of all these names, emotions, feelings. She couldn’t stop it before it came, and ran down her cheek. A single tear. It was something completely foreign to her. She touched her fingers to her face, as if not believing it, and when another one fell, she quickly put her head down so that Lesa wouldn’t see. When the girl’s words came about her being her friend, she shut her eyes really tight, tears from the other eye now deciding to spill over and run a race down her pallid skin.
”Y-yeah,” she stuttered, not wanting Lesa to think her odd. She opened her blue eyes slowly. She could feel Lesa looking at her, which was making her heart race. And as Lesa made another comment of the magnificence of the hatching, Tieler cursed herself when she had to sniffle. ”It’s really... uh, it’s really cool,” she added lamely.
When the Pink weaved its way through the girls, she watched it. It had already passed by her; she doubted it’d turn around. And the Brown was far away from her, all the way on the boys’ side. She didn’t even bother to watch him. She didn’t like him for how mean he’d been, and yet she knew she was a hypocrite for it. She was just as mean to people every single day, if not meaner. There was no reason for it, no one deserved it, and she was just a colossal jerk because she could be. Her eyes transfixed on the newly hatched Green, uh-oh! She watched as some near commotion began again with the Brown, and she felt like stepping forward to help, but knew better. Plus, what would everyone else think of her? When the Brown seemed to turn its head, she knew what had happened. It had found His. And then again there was the name of the newly impressed rider, now with an appropriate honorific, and the name of the new Brown. Esprith, she’d watch out for him, make sure he was kept in check through their Weyrling days. If she ever became a Weyrling that is... It was silly to think she wouldn’t, what with two clutches before her! And yet, as the dragonet’s impressed, she lost faith more and more. She knew she had done terrible things, things that she had never even told anyone before, things she could possibly still be punished for-or worse. And yet, here she was today, standing as a Candidate. When another Blue hatched, and seemed to have a bit of a run-in with the Green, she frowned. The Green was really just teaching him a lesson, and even she could see that, but still. It wasn’t his fault that he wanted to hear his new voice, to try it out. If she had wings she’d want to spread them and fly, simple as that. Though her analogy was a bit... weird.
There it was, the Green had impressed! The emotions racked her body, and she ran a hand through her head of deep red hair. She couldn’t take this, it was all too much. She couldn’t handle it alone, that’s what she was telling herself.
”I can’t believe this... Sometimes I wish I couldn’t—I--,” she hadn’t even managed to get a proper sentence out. She was staring up at Lesa hopelessly. Was Lesa her saviour? Maybe, maybe not, but she was completely assured, as of this moment, that she was her loyal friend.

A number of things happened, then. One, there was a dragon right there. ... Two, there was a dragon right there. Three, Belphe was almost falling over, but honestly - there was a dragon RIGHT THERE. The pink had pushed her way right past Samael and Belphegor, and the former's heart just about blew a vessel. It was one thing to see the dragons from far away. It was another to have it touch you. She did put a steady hand on Belphe's shoulder to help her get her balance, but obviously her attention was elsewhere.
"Careful, you," she said to Belphe, though it was rather distant, because Sam's mind was only for three things: dragon, right, and there. Really, it felt like some sort of omen, and really helped to solidify the entire situation. This was real. She did have a chance. A dragon touched her (and it wasn't even from mauling). Granted, it had totally passed her by, which probably would have rendered some completely miserable, but Sam still took it well. Very well. Hey, at least the dragon didn't think she was worth slashing open. It was a start!
Then came a green and a blue. The green was much darker than the first - the difference was quite astonishing. Well, of course, she knew dragons came in different colours, but just knowing that they were sisters, too, made it even more interesting. The blue was brighter than the first blue, too. The personalities between the two newly-hatched were very different, too. The blue was happy, and the green was grumpy and apparently saw fit to rain on the blue's parade. Well. That wasn't very nice. Luckily, after the brown from before had Impressed, the Green went off and did too. Sam clapped for both.
The happy blue was left, and so was that pink. Samael peered at her among the female candidates. Was she alright, she wondered? It seemed to be taking her a while.
---
It was probably impossible for Tier to pay any more attention than he was, even if he glued his eyes open. He was barely blinking his eyes as it was. He didn't want to miss any of it. It really was a sort of 'don't even blink' situation. There was so much to see. So much to take in. If he blinked, there was no saying what he might miss. Maybe the entire hatching of a new dragonet, if it was forceful enough, or a certain look on a dragonet's face, or the second of Impression. Basically, he was far too glued to the moment for his own good, but that was alright.
The new blue was carefree and cheerful. The green was strong-willed and forward. Their mannerisms clashed, of course, but what was life without conflict? If everyone got along, some of the charm would be lost. All of the pieces to a puzzle were different. If they were all the same, then a puzzle would be easy and only make a repeating picture. With different pieces, it was harder, but the end result was a beautiful masterpiece. The big picture. Quite proud of his analogy, he smiled softly and clapped for the brown's Impression.
Then, his mind dissolved to something a little more basic. What would it be like to have four legs like the dragons did? True, he could always drop to all fours and test it out, but it wasn't exactly the same. Humans' bodies were built different. They only needed two legs for walking. Dragons needed four, plus a set of wings for flying. Wings! Wings were gorgeous inventions. What would it be like to fly on your own, without some magnificent beast under you? What a fantasy!
The serious green Impressed, too. Applause rang out through the cavern again, as it ought to. So many of the eggs were rocking now. It kept him guessing. Which would hatch next? Which would Impress next? What colours would they be? He wasn't in a hurry to have them answered, though. There was all the time in the world. Nothing ever needed to rush.
---
In the stands, someone wasn't clapping. She was watching politely and quietly, not a bother at all, but she didn't clap. She wasn't paying enough attention to know when to clap with the rest. Kesviry was just waiting for one thing, watching all the baby dragonets, and that was Ezra's Impression. Yes, she was off in her own inconsiderate world, but that was all she was there for. Otherwise, it didn't mean much to her. It meant far more to the Candidates down there on those hot sands. Who was she to think it was for her, too? It wasn't. [/blockquote]

The Pink was searching through the girls, weaving between them and nearly knocking one of them over. Nyat didn't envy the girl who'd nearly tumbled to the ground. If she fell and ticked the Pink off, there'd be a mauling on the Sands, he imagined, and he wouldn't wish that on anyone. Still, it didn't look like that was going to happen. Number one, the girl hadn't fallen, and number two, the Pink seemed too happy to just maul anyone. Not that that meant anything. A dragonet could seem happy and maul someone anyways. You never knew with dragonets. They were unpredictable little buggers.
With that thought, Nyat glanced towards the Brown, who hadn't moved, simply eying the Candidates with a calm gaze. Despite his earlier display of temper, the Brown didn't look like he was going to lunge at the Candidates and maul them. He was even glancing towards the Pink, looking guilty. Nyat snorted at the thought, but he watched the Brown move slowly towards the Candidates anyways, noting that the dragonet didn't seem to be in a rush. For all that he'd seemed ready to injure the pink, the Brown didn't look like a very hurried dragon.
With a shrug to himself, Nyat figured that he'd have time to watch the eggs, and turned his gaze back towards them in time to watch the fiery colored egg, all orange and red, split in half to reveal a green dragonet. She looked a little oddly proportioned, Nyat noted as he examined her hide, darker green with what looked like lighter spots on her hide. The dragonet looked almost bubbly, he supposed, though she didn't act it.
Anyways, the light blue egg in the back row was rocking, and Nyat glanced towards it in time to see the dark blue hatch from the egg. This one, like the Green, looked oddly proportioned, and quite happy. The Blue dragonet was trilling happily, and Nyat snorted at the way that the blue was testing his vocal chords. These dragonets were quite the odd little things, but then again, this was an odd Weyr, so it was to be expected, he supposed.
He wouldn't have noticed the Green, except she she'd spun to give him a very disapproving look, plopping down in the Blue's path in an attempt to block his path. Nyat shook his head at the creature's antics, especially as the Blue moved to the side and the Green mirrored his action. The Green seemed to get steadily more annoyed as the time passed until she merely stuck her leg out, sending the Blue sprawling and nearly hitting the Brown. Nyat wasn't surprised when the Brown whirled on the Blue, tensing. But instead of attacking, which Nyat had expected, the Brown turned away, ignoring the Blue and stalking up to the male Candidates, seeming to have chosen His long ago.
Indeed, the Brown walked up to one of the males, one that was, if Nyat remembered correctly, the brother of one of the dragonriders who'd Impressed at the Renegade clutching. While he hadn't been there for that Clutching, he did remember it the tales of it quite well. They were rather hard to forget. For example, he'd heard that one of the Hatchinglings had tried to eat His' head, which really supported his earlier thought about this being an odd weyr. Nyat clapped absently as he thought for the brown's Impression.
Odd weyr or not, though, they did have eggs on the Sands, so Nyat shook his thoughts from his head and shifted his weight onto his left foot, going to back to watching the eggs in time to catch the Blue getting to his feet, eying the Candidates and his Green sister. The Green, however, seemed to be ignoring the Blue as she wandered towards the female Candidates, Impressing to one of the girls. Nyat clapped for this Impression absently as well, not paying much attention to the Impressions. Instead, he was watching the Blue, who was looking through the males fairly slowly.
Neither the Blue nor the Pink had Impressed, but the Pink was mostly surfing the female Candidates, while the Blue looked through the males, so Nyat was mainly focused on the Blue.
--
The darker Pink was still looking through the girls for Hers, so it was the Pink that Rayna watched as she pushed past one Candidate, nearly knocking her over, weaving between the females as she went along her path. The Pink seemed quite happy to be surrounded by the girls, from what Rayna could tell.
The Brown was only glanced at occasionally on Rayna's part. She did know that that the dragonet was eying the Pink almost guiltily, but by the time she'd glanced at the Brown the second time, he was wandering towards the male Candidates, taking his time in making his way towards the males.
The fiery egg was rocking, however, and no matter how interesting the Pink was, wandering through the female Candidates, Rayna glanced towards the egg just catching the appearance of a Green dragonet. Her legs looked a little short for her body, Rayna noted, but her attention was mostly claimed by the Green's hide, dark with lighter spots. It took Rayna a moment to decide that the Green looked almost bubbly, though her actions weren't bubbly in the slightest. The Green looked like a man, well, woman, on a mission.
But the light blue egg in the back row was rocking, so Rayna craned her neck to spy a small, deep blue with darker blue patches on his forehead and his face. The little blue looked happy, from what Rayna could tell, and his happy trills and noises added to that judgment. The dragonet seemed all around delighted to be out in the world. The Green whirled on the blue with a disapproving look, blocking his path.
Rayna gave a snort of laughter at the two Hatchlings' antics. The actions of dragons on the Hatching Sands never failed to amuse her, especially when dragonets were being foolish, such as when the Green tripped the Blue just a few seconds ago as the Hatchling darted back and forth, causing the Blue to fall not too far away from the Brown. All thoughts of the Pink forgotten, she watched the Brown, expecting it to lunge at the Blue. However, her expectations were proved wrong when the Brown wandered off towards the male Candidates, Impressing to a boy that Rayna had never met. Along with the majority of the Candidates, she clapped absently, and along with the majority of the Candidates, she was only doing it because it was polite.
The green was searching through the girls now, along with the Pink. Rayna watched them both as best she could, but having issues watching both dragonet, she decided to focus on the Pink, and only learned that the Green had Impressed through the clapping. A quick glance around spotted the Green standing before one of the female Candidates, and then Rayna put her hands together for the new Greenrider.
The Blue and the Pink were both searching through the Candidates fairly slowly, both seeming to be having fun just looking through the Candidates, not seeming to want to Impress yet. Rayna shrugged to herself and went back to watching the eggs. The dragonets were interesting and all, but the Pink didn't seem interested in Impressing any time soon, and the Blue was looking through the males, leaving the eggs to be the most interesting thing to watch. As a Harper, Lesa had been trained in more than just the proper way to sing and what musical notations were and how to make stories sound the best they could. She had been trained in observation and judging, to be able to serve as a judiciary harper like her uncle. It was these skills she used now, not the ones that were more likely to earn her Marks, the singing and writing.
Eggs cracked all around her, and her eyes followed the dragonets making their way across the Sands - but she was paying more attention to the redhead beside her. Tieler was... shaking, slightly, flinching and wincing and crying. Tieler was crying. But her expression... despite everything, it wasn't a look of pain, fully, or fear or anything like that: it was pride and love and pain. The redhead gulped, and Lesa ignored it, sensing the other girl wished it. Tieler's head dropped to her chest - but Lesa was short enough to make out the glow of the still setting sun on the wet tear tracks down her face.
Her eyes were kind behind her spectacles, but she didn't show it beyond that. A soft sigh in commiseration, and a gentle swaying to assure that Tieler's fidgeting didn't involve her getting hit. The Dramix-Brown Impressed while the blonde swayed, thinking. Everything was making sense now. Tieler's twitching at random times in their rooms or during Lessons or when she was talking about them doing something against the rules - it had always reminded Lesa of how she twitched to herself when a saying of her parents came into her head and she had a pang of missing them, missing the Hall. It wasn't exactly the same, but it reminded her of it. A voice in her head. Voices in Tieler's head.
The voices had gotten worse here - and even worse since on the Sands. There was one thing there was more of in the Weyr and on the Sands than anything else, and it was what assured Lesa that Tieler wasn't crazy: she had learned of the illnesses that only came about at their age that involved people thinking they heard voices - but with it only starting at the Weyr, and getting worse on the Sands. Dragons. It had to be dragons. Tieler could hear dragons, like Torene before her.
What a privilege - and a burden. It was a privilege and an honor to hear dragons normally, to be spoken to by any dragon when one is not a rider, or to hear the voice of one's own dragon when one Impressed. Tieler could hear them all - even when she didn't wish to. Had to be a burden. Had to be a burden to listen to the thing that should be private between new rider and dragonet: the first words spoken in Impression. Sightlessly she watched as the green Impressed, pink and blue still walking the Sands.
The Harper turned back to her fellow as the redhead shoved a hand through her hair. "It's alright. It feels odd to intrude - it feels wrong to intrude, but you can't turn it off. It has no switch." A small hand reached out in empathy, grabbing the freeswinging hand, squeezing once then ghosting away, "You wish you couldn't hear them," a small smile, a supportive smile, "but stop looking at it as such a burden, or that it's so wrong-" she broke off, unable to decide how to continue, "look at it as a gift... that for everything, you belong here. We all do." It might not be enough. It might not be what Tieler had been looking for... but it was all she had to give. Words.

Katheryne watched silently as the Impressions continued. Yes. she had clapped for them all. And yes, she was very happy for them. But she was becoming nervous. and fidgety. Would she Impress? Would a dragon find her worthy of Impression? The thoughts seemed to attack her brain all at once, causing her breath to catch in her throat. 'Calm down...' she mentally noted, grabbing her head with one hand to steady her mind. 'It'll be alright. If I don't Impress this time...' she didn't even want to continue that sentence.
So, in order to make herself feel somewhat better, the frantic candidate fiddled with her hair nervously while keeping her eyes glued to the eggs. 'Everything will be fine, everything will be fine...' That seemed to be her mantra for the day.
---
Junaeth crooned happily as the candidates began to Impress. It was a grand sight to see all the little hatchlings appear and choose Theirs. Such a cute bunch of babies to be had! H'eath smiled, clapping enthusiastically for each Impressed pair. His eyes would sometimes slip to the queen egg, and he couldn't help but wonder when it would hatch. That was why many had come to watch. Who'd Impress the next Gold? He hardly knew any of the candidates, but he was sure that they were all decent.
/Agreed./ The blue mentally chimed in to His' thoughts, and the rider just chuckled in response.

You say the hill's too steep to climb, Climb it. You say you'd like to see me, Try climbing.
Blue, black, brown, cyan, green, Sonia tracked their movements, watching their awkward feet across the ground. Some Impressed. Some mauled. Some lingered longer. It was a flow and a flood, one that she let pass. She stood there, motionless, careful to avoid attracting attention to herself. Mentally, she had noted her flitters presence near the ceiling. They had come to watch. She couldn't be angry at them for that. As long as they stayed away from her until the hatching was done, she would be alright. She did not wish to risk the ire of an angry Queen or become the center of anyone's attention. The press of the crowd behind her was enough stress for her. Was L'am there? It wasn't some dopey love or crush that made her ask that question. It was wariness. He had not sounded nearly as put off the last time they had met to leave her fearless.
The hope within her remained dead and buried. If she needed hope to get anything, she didn't need anything. Sonia was stubborn. In that moment, that fact was actually probably more clear than it had been in a while, except for maybe when she'd gone and drugged L'am. She would not let herself hope. She could keep herself from that. Perhaps it was wrong. It did hurt, but none of that mattered. She had to keep going. She had seven hungry, flighty, playful mouths to feed and every reason not to trust several powerful people in the Weyr. The haven of a home she had found was turning into a nightmare. Yet she clung to it, just as she clung to her belief in hopelessness. Low expectations were better than pride. She had her self respect, bruised but intact, and that was enough. She didn't need a dragon. Though she wouldn't mind one.
And who's the fool who wears the crown? No doubt in your own way, And every day is the right day, And as you rise above the fear.
