Reki had spent most of his day doing nothing, which was bad. He felt like he didn’t do enough around here, he was always out and about, looking for things to do. Every now and then he would find something to do, a quick job for a rider or a small favor for someone. Anything to keep him active and occupied. This afternoon he had failed to find anything to do, so he had taken to cleaning his room. It was a easy task as it was already clean. But he cleaned anyway, a bit of sweeping and a bit of reorganizing of his chest and everything was set.
He had just finished cleaning the underside of his bed when he heard the call. Despite the harsh tone of the call and the warning to be on time, he took his time and finished cleaning the under side of his bed. After finishing he opened his newly organized chest and took out the appropriate garb for the hatching. He dressed at a calm pace, making sure that the robe was clean and in good condition. It should be, as this was the first hatching he would ever have worn it to.
When he got to the sands he was surprised to see that he was not late. Just on time. Looking around he noticed some of the riders and candidates, but most of them he didn’t know. He had buried himself in any work he could get his hands on since he had arrived and not really socialized. Later, he might try to get to know more people. He bowed to the two queens, expressed his joy and awe of being at the hatching, then walked calmly to the group of boy candidates.
The more he saw of the eggs and more his excitement grew. His stomach twisted into a knot of anticipation as he waited and watched the eggs, wandering what each contained, and which, if any, he would bond with. So many possibilities, and all of them life altering. He refocused on the here and now, so he wouldn’t miss anything and so he wouldn’t get swept up in his own twisting maelstrom of thoughts. He watched with growing excitement as the first egg, a pink, hatched, then the second, a blackish blue color. The first produced a vibrant green, the second, a large, deeply colored blue.
Reki chuckled as he watched the interaction between the two hatchlings. The green was a flirty one, trying to get the blue’s attention. The proud blue just waited patiently for the green to move on. Which is just what it did, moving on to the group of female candidates. As the blue approached the group of male candidates Reki watched it, hopeful but not to expecting. It would probably just pass him by. There were still many eggs left on the sands. He was aware of some applause, the green had probably found its bonded and impressed already. He didn’t join in on the clapping though, he just watched the blue. His breath caught as the blue stopped in front of him, such a deep blue hide. Overall a good looking dragon.
When the blue looked back he was sure it was going to just move on, so he was surprised when all of a sudden he heard. R'rasuMine, your Boulimith is glad he could find you. The others are not worth caring about. Reki stared at the blue for a second, before it all clicked. “Boulimith! Im glad too!” He watched his bonded, forgetting what was supposed to happen next.
Food! Mine we must get food! I am hungry! Boulimith said at the same time that Reki remembered. “Right you are, come on, lets go….” Reki searched for a name that was shorter than Boulimith, which was too long to say every time. “…Bou!” Bou? But mine! Im Boulimith! Bou protested. “Yes that you are, and Bou.” Reki said back , chuckling. They walked together to the table of meat, there were already quite a few candidates, sorry, weyrlings there, with their bonded. Reki fed the bite sized pieces to Bou, slowly , the handful of meat disappeared. With his other hand Reki stroked Bou’s leathery hide, helping remove muck and similar debris left from the egg. (sorry for the REALLY late post)

The Hatching Sands were quiet except for the Cyan that was near the golden egg, although it seemed that even she had quieted down a bit. Callistath moved back from her daughter's egg, allowing the egg space to move and shake, though she kept an eye on the Cyan, making sure she wasn't going to do anything bad. This was important. A Queen was about to hatch. Someday, she might be Senior Queen of Dalibor. The egg shook and shook, as the dragonet inside tried to escape her shiney prison. They were neat little lines, moving in a delicate pattern down the egg as it began to break apart. Piece after piece fell away, until finally, the Queen was revealed.
She unfolded her wings and placed them neatly, though slightly awkward, on her back, getting used to her body. Her hide was a dark, burnished gold, and she was, indeed, a Gold. She was larger than her mother had been as a hatchling, though she wasn't an extremely large Gold by any means, meaning she would eventually be the largest dragon in Dalibor, a bit ironic, as it was. Her hide was a uniform, dark gold, though she did have slight varations here and there, and her feet were a bit lighter than the rest of her body. She took a step... and she suddenly wasn't a lady anymore.
The Gold looked like she definitely knew what she was, and she was enjoying every minute of it. She glanced over at the weak Cyan... and sniffed. Ew! Gross! She was so gross! The Gold was way better. Way, way better! And everyone agreed, because she knew they would, because they were all watching her. It appeared that the Gold had absolutely no trace of her mother's ladylike attributes and was instead... a complete brat. There was really no other word to describe her. She even looked like a diva, turning her nose away from the weaker Cyan and towards the other Cyan. Stupid little things with weird, ugly hides. Her hide was prettier! Everyone was watching her! And not them. Definitely not them.
So the Gold had to teach her little Cyan sister a lesson! She walked towards the Cyan, her step lacking even a semblence of grace as she towered over the smaller dragonet. The Cyan gave a huff and locked eyes, not cowering or backing down. No way was she letting herself get intimidated by this brat! It was, essentially, a standoff. Both being fairly stubborn, it went on for a good while... but then the Queen found herself growing bored, so she lashed out at the Cyan... who darted away, dodging between the eggs to escape. Good thing she was fast. That Gold was not going easy on anyone. But she was very, very pleased with herself, and if dragons could smirk, she would definitely be smirking. Or at least laughing.
The Cyan moved towards the boys, intent to Impress and get away from that crazy thing. She didn't take long to pick, as her choice was fairly obvious to her. The best of the best! And she'd steal him away from that ugly Gold thing, because she was just that good. Nevermind that boys couldn't Impress Queens. Whatever. Didn't matter. She was totally stealing the better Candidate, so hah! Your Ressouth had to pick you, D'ixMine! Only the best, and only I could find you! So whatever. She doesn't matter. and the Cyan gave a rather obnoxious laugh at this, clearly trying to make herself feel better and definitely not bothered at all whatsoever. Queens were dumb, anyway!
Cyan: Haughty, intelligent, obnoxious. -Ressouth [to remind me] [367588]
With the Cyan gone, it was just the Gold... and the weak, ugly thing she was completely ignoring because it disgusted her, for some strange reason. Maybe it was the sympathy it seemed to get? The Gold wanted sympathy too! Not fair! She huffed around on the Sands, flaunting her beautiful golden self. The eggs didn't seem to care that the Gold wanted the sands all to herself, because the very light egg in the back with the light green and blue spots had split open. A very lightly colored Green walked out, cleaning herself off before walking forward. She, being smart, walked as far away from the Gold as she could... but, alas, as Hers was female... she found herself walking straight into the prancing Gold's path.
And the Gold was so not pleased at this at all. The Green kept walking, keeping her face straight and her eyes forward. She didn't want to deal with the Gold... but the Gold wanted to deal with her. Annoyed that there was another dragon on her Sands, the Gold stalked forward, towering over the Green as she had to the Cyan... or at least, she was trying to. The Green gave her an almost emotionless glance, and then unseen words must have passed between them... because the Green was off towards the girls and the Gold was, essentialy... throwing a temper tantrum. She stopped around and huffed, kicking up sand and making angry noises. Ugh! How dare that stupid Green ignore her! Not fair, not fair! It wasn't fair! Like an embarrassed parent (not even like, that's what she was) Callistath quickly put an end to this very unladylike show with a stern noise and a very obvious, though unheard, scolding that made the Gold huff in annoyance.
The Green walked with a sway in her step, quite happy with the Gold's temper tantrum. Serves her right, yes? The Green was definitely not going to be messed with, oh no. And not that she would go after others, either. It was just that the Gold had attacked her, and she had defended herself in the best way she knew how... with sass. Apparently it worked surprisingly well. The Green continued through the girls... and felt strange. They had odd feelings. Something she couldn't place. What was it? She knew that Greens... flirted, yes? Flirt? Boys? But she didn't feel anything. In fact, she didn't even want to glance at the males. She didn't have the capacity, it seemed. The Green lacked the capacity to love.
And as such... finding her lifemate was proving difficult. The Green's happy mood dampered as she moved through the girls, trying to connect herself with one of them. But they all had that. Love. She kept searching, as she wasn't the type to give up, though... it was difficult. However... ah. There. This girl... there was something different about her. She felt for it. Connected with it. She didn't love it, because she couldn't love it, but she felt for it. Sympathy? Affection? It was something... but it was there. And that was all the Green needed.
SoniaMine, your Aimeth.... she paused, thinking. How to phrase this? She restarted. SoniaMine, can you love your Aimeth? It was an odd thing for her to say, especially for the dragon that had just sassed a Gold, but so be it. She had to fill that void somehow.
Green: Sassy, strong, unable to love. -Aimeth [be in love with] [d0f0c0]
The Gold was alone again, and had gotten over her scolding. But while she continued to show off in front of her loving, adoring people... another egg began to hatch. The tan egg in the back began to crack, as quietly as possible. The dragonet inside didn't want to cause a show, it seemed. It just wanted to hatch in peace. So the egg cracked, and cracked... and splintered away... slowly. The dragon inside poked a foot out, then another, and then a head. Finally, out of the egg came... a... uh. Well, it looked almost like a Brown... but the coloring was tinted almost a peachy pink. Plus... the dragon was female. Her body was lithe and thin, most certainly not the bulky build of a Brown. Plus, she was extremely large in size, reaching sub-Queen level, which was far larger than a Brown. She looked like an elegant little lady. She walked forward, and Callistath watched her, the anger and annoyance at the Gold forgotten by her daughter's hatching.
The strange, extremely oversized, female-Brown? walked sturdy on her legs. She seemed quiet, but not shy... just quiet. She watched and listened, obeying her mother's little nudge and walking forward a bit more. There was a Gold over there. She knew of her only importance too, but wasn't arrogant at all. She knew her place, and the Gold was higher than her. She would follow and obey, and more important, she would protect. She would protect the rules, especially, but she would protect those important to her. And she moved very quietly, not wanting to disturb the Gold or attract her attention in a bad way. She had grace, though, making up for what the Gold definitely lacked.
She appeared to have no idea of how her appearance must make everyone else feel, though. The shock, perhaps, of a... mutation? Was it even a mutation, or just a girly Brown? It was unsure. She simply watched the Gold, respectfully waiting for the higher-ranking dragon to Impress before she did. The law of the lands must be upheld, and she would watch over them. Even if no one else knew what she was.

Tieler made a hacking sound, her hands placed on her knees, as soon as the dark-Gold beauty came into sight. Oh man, what was a matter with her? She stood erect, placing her hands on her hips. She was staring, there was no other word for it, and using her deep inner-strength to keep her mouth appropriately shut. The Gold was big, for a Golden dragonet; by no means massive, but more than decently-sized. Tieler had never bothered to do this before, but she left herself completely open to the Gold’s feelings. And then it came... the need for power, the need for dominance, and it made her stand that much taller. She felt all the prior years of her life flooding back to her, but instead of bad memories, she was seeing it all as nothing short of brilliant. She’d had power, she’d had dominance. But she could have more; this Gold had more than she’d had. She traced her tongue along her lower-lip, lively blue eyes now nothing short of determined as she watched the Gold and Cyan battle it out.
She scoffed, her right hand bawled into a fist. ”Come on,” she whispered, ”take her down.” And then the Cyan fled, right to... wait, what? Dramix? Well, well, she had never seen that coming. He had seemed like the type who would get an airheaded Bronze. But each dragon had a different personality, despite the coloration of their hide. The impression hardly took any of her time away from the Gold when it was the only one left upon the sands, save the weak Cyan. Tieler fed off of the Gold’s whole being, actually releasing a chuckle that sounded creepily dark.
And then a Green hatched, and the oddness of this Green made her watch it. As it walked to the girls she gave it a peculiar look, her head tilting slightly to the side. She felt like asking it: “Do you know that you’re special?” Yes, even though it was a Green, it was special. She felt that, right away. And as it walked past her she was not surprised. Whatever made this Green so magical, so special; it did not belong to her. Once the dragonet made its choice, she wasn’t even really surprised. She just felt stupid for not having realized it sooner, that it’d head straight to this one. And when she heard the words of the dragonet, about being loved, she gave way to fresh tears. It was only a couple this time, and she managed to wipe them away quickly with the sleeve of her robe. Never again would she cry like this, not for a very long time, she promised herself this right now.
”Congratulations Sonia!” she called over everyone, looking back at the small girl. She clapped loudly, hoping that everyone else had the sense to be as well. Otherwise she’d start going through her list of names and deciding whose butts needed kicking. She offered the girl a playful wink, and then the Gold sucked her in again. And it was like she was a different person, well, no, not different, just incredibly in-tune. With Tieler never giving anyone else the time of day, and always wanting to be treated royally, it was amazing that she was having this intense episode.
She couldn’t even curse herself, for she enjoyed feeling this, and knew she would never feel quite like this again. Once the Gold impressed, all possibility of seeing it on its own, like this, being whom it felt it had the right to be, was going to be gone forever. Her heart ached, for she felt so much stronger, and lustful, with this newly-hatched Queen traipsing about.
If only Master Harper Yendev could see her now, what would he think? Would he be proud? Would he be giving way to tears himself as he saw how intently she was watching these dragonets, and feeling their impressions? She loved being here, on these hatching sands, and she wished that these moments could be the rest of her life. She would never forget this day, she wouldn’t let herself. She would let it make her stronger, she would let this Gold make her stronger—even when it was gone, impressed to whichever person it would impress off to. She flashed Lesa a toothy-grin. Oh how she hoped it was her friend. No one deserved it more than she, from Tieler’s point of view! She was sure there were other perfectly eligible girls in the crowd of female Candidate’s, although. She wasn’t going to steal their hopes and dreams, not this early on in the game. The Gold still had plenty of time to choose...
And then, what happened next was something so strange and confusing that her head was spinning. One of the eggs began to rock, and crack, and she was only listening rather than watching. Then, when the dragonet tumbled out, and she heard the gasps, she gave a quick peek. This time her mouth was ajar. What... in the world... Well-um-what was it exactly? It looked a bit pink, like maybe it was blushing, and yet it clearly had some Brown in there! But ah, a female, she was definitely a she. She sized the dragonet up; unable to not give it equal attention to the Queen what with the questions it posed. Were Brown’s no longer male? Was it a fluke dragonet? Had something gone wrong in the egg and two dragonet’s had meshed into one? Okay, now she was just being a bit silly! But by the first egg, what was this one before her? She looked over at Lesa, eager to discuss it with someone else, to get her nagging thoughts out of her head! ”What do you think it is? I don’t think anyone really knows! The other dragon’s don’t know, my word.”
When it made its way up alongside the Queen, she watched, for it was all she could do. Tieler hated being oh so confused.

– and then there was a black, but it had absolutely nothing to do with either of the clutches. The sudden appearance of a black flitter startled him, made him flinch before he could recognize the tiny beast that crooned and nuzzled with affection. A fantastic grin stretched wide over his face as he tilted his head and shrugged his shoulder up. He straightened out once the creature was gone, picking himself up as much as he could to instantly look over the stands in search of his friend. Khemres had come to see him too! It was beyond exciting and, when he managed to find the albino, he lifted a hand to wave to him, once more with merely a wiggle of his fingers. He was blessed, two of his friends had come to see him Impress! He had the greatest friends in all of Pern, no doubt. Another sweep revealed no C’lin still, but he refused to let this bother him. He had two of the greatest friends in all of Pern there, he couldn’t complain! His eyes widened with the arrival of the Queen, a large Gold, and he was so caught up in her that he couldn’t even begin to grasp the haughtiness in her step. She was beautiful and she knew it, he couldn’t see anything wrong with that. His eyes held to her as she walked along the warm sands, watching her as she adjusted to herself and her surroundings. He chewed idly at his lip and he could feel his chest tighten with that familiar sense of nervous anticipation. Not that he held any chances, the Queen would Impress… well, a Queen. And Queens were typically girls, in his experience. But he wanted to know who the next Junior Weyrwoman would be! Anybody would be. His attentions wavered from the Gold as she lashed out at her Cyan sister, certainly not lady-like behaviour in any way. Nothing like her mother! His focus drifted then, from her to the dragonet she’d attacked, following the Cyan right to the boy she’d chosen to Impress and he clapped loudly for the both of them, a bright grin back on his features. And when he looked back, the Green had Impressed and then an egg hatched to reveal… well, it was a dragon, at least, he knew that for sure. His brow furrowed as he tilted his head slightly in confusion, studying the little beast as she carried herself quietly and with a grace that almost didn’t seem to match her large size. ”Is that a Brown?” He questioned in a whisper, leaning over a bit to glance to the boy at his side before looking back. And after a moment of uncertainty, he brightened considerably and stood tall once more, his focus now entirely on her. She was pretty too, large but graceful and quiet but confident. She was unique, and unique was a great thing to be.[/ul]

Fascinating new thing, You delight me, And I know you're speaking of me, Fascinating new thing.
The cyan continued to struggle her way across the sands, blissfully unaware of what was happening around her, lost in a tired, dreamy world all her own. Her queenly sister threw her temper tantrums, but she remained safely up in her head. Though her limbs were beginning to ache, she continued forward. It was going to be a long journey to the candidates, a long journey she didn't even know she was making, but she would make it. Eyes darted over the crowd, her mind so easily distracted by sights, ignorant to the sounds she heard but barely processed. A flash there, a sparkle here, her head repeatedly snapped from side to side, her thoughts half forming about each thing only to be forgotten as something else caught her attention. She was drifting, fading, but she had been weak from the beginning. She could only get better.
Fajra was staring fixedly at the giant, feminine brown that was wandering across the sands, expression closed and emotionless, but Kalith's eyes remained fixed on her own eggs. It would be no problem. One more new mutant from Dalibor's sands wouldn't do anyone great harm. The brownish blue egg in the back row of her clutch was beginning to wiggle and twitch. It seemed in no great hurry, moving slowly. Still, cracks did eventually start to form, making a spiderweb across its mottled surface. The cracks grew slowly larger, their growth unsteady, until, at long last, the egg shattered into a variety of pieces. Out tumbled a very dazed and confused brown, the force sending the just born hatchling sprawling out across the sands, slick with egg goop and blinking out at the gigantic, bright, confusing world that now surround her.
Yes, her. Like the pinkish brown that already had come into the world, this brown was both bigger than a male representative of her supposed color and slighter of build. However, unlike her adoptive sibling, their relation awkward and all the more confusing with their sudden appearance, she was not pinkish. She was a uniform pale, beige-like color. From the looks of it, she was not a brown, no matter what color her hide was. She and her niece, as it actually was, were something entirely different. Not that the hatchling was aware of such a fact. She wandered a few steps forward, getting sand all over her belly, but she didn't seem to be catching onto what was happening. While her expression and movements suggested at a sweetness, she was definitely not the sharpest tool of the shed, despite being larger than most reds.
The mottled green egg beside the shards of the broken brown and blue one began to rock. Each of its movements was precise and well timed. Soon enough, cracks began to form and then the egg split neatly in half, allowing the hatchling within its confines to step forward. He was a handsome beast, well built and quite large, only a small bit smaller than the beige female that was wandering about the sands. He regarded the world in front of him with dour interest, his long tail settling limply to the ground behind him. The efficiency of his hatching did him proud, but he was not about to act in any sort of cheerful manner. He held himself in a sort of tense but slumped manner, somehow managing to mix seriousness with an intense dissatisfaction with life. His great size only made it all the worse. His manner made him seem like a less than poetic poet.
Oh, also, he was bright, bright green, one uniform, brilliant shade of the color across his entire body. That was a bit of a problem, given that everything that had been said about him before absolutely contradicted that fact. He was male, boringly serious, the size of a red, and green. Beyond that, there was also a slight gloss to his hide, beyond the liquid that coated it, as if he was a King, though he was not. He was no munchkin bronze, though purists could hope, no giant green. His aspects did not fit together, yet there he was, standing upon the sands for the world to see, one of a handful of dragonets on the sands. While he did not outshine his golden sister, he was hard not to notice. Really, he was bright green, the color enough to burn out one eyes. The color didn't suit his personality. Real greens had their color down right.
Unlike his siblings, the brilliant male green did not waste time. He did not care that he was a new color, though that was a fact that he did notice and found a little strange. This was no time to waste with celebrating. He had things to do and people to find. With a dour expression upon his face and seriousness in his every motion, he marched forward. While he noticed the others, his gaze past over them as if they were nothing. Mere factors in the equation, he cared only about the answer. The gold thought herself important, but there were thirty other golds in all of Pern. There was only one of him. Larger than a brown, he was no King, but he could easily fly her one day. It was not about pride with him. It was about odds and understanding all the numbers that played around him. He was not a cheerful or exciting individual. He was no playful little green.
Upon reaching the males, as no female was appropriate for him, the masculine bright green began his inspections. He was quick about it, not wasting any time. He knew which one he wanted. He just had to find that one. Four inches too short, two inches too tall, too pudgy by a good many pounds, too skinny by just a few, the male green selected his rider by a strict set of values, having already noticed who he wanted though he would never believe such a thing. One couldn't simply sense who was needed. That was preposterous. They had to be found. He may have been empathic, but he sure as heck didn't believe it. At long last, he found the boy in the haystack. He gave a snort of disapproval. That had taken far too long in his opinion. They were being inefficient. As somber as ever, Impression giving him little joy, he addressed his new rider.
B'lorMine, your Neth will need sustenance momentarily. His voice lacked passion, though not emotion. A vague disapproval radiated off of him, as if nothing would be good enough, not by arrogance but by the sheer laws of science. With that business taken care of, the hatchling turned to address the public at large. I am a viridian. Not a green, I repeat, a viridian. V-I-R-I-D-I-A-N. I would appreciate it to be referred to as such. He was dead serious, voice commanding. He was most definitely a lesser King, much like a brown though a bit larger. Who better to name his color than himself? He was no green and he knew that. Though he lacked the bluish tinge of the name he had chosen, he believed it be a fitting reference besides that. Done with his announcement, he turned his dull eyes back to B'lor, expectantly waiting to be fed with efficiency.
Fajra tore her eyes off the green, returning them to the two female browns on the sands. He says that he is a viridian. Kalith did not sound like she entirely approved. She had named the last color that had hatched there, after all. The cyans had been aptly named by her and it was her Weyr. What sort of name was viridian? Fajra soothed her with one thought. Verde. They could nickname them verdes or something. Viridian was very scientific, though not entirely accurate. It wasn't worth arguing over, given that they had other things to worry about. The Queen and her rider's eyes both locked on the two female browns that were out on the sands. With the viridian named and quite possibly a one time incident, that left one thing to worry about. What were these feminine browns? Did they have a name? A new color. With two, they were a new color.
Fascinating new thing, You seem naked, On a temporary circuit, Fascinating new thing.

Just as she suspected, the gold egg hatched, and out stepped a gold dragon, though she was considerably darker than her eggshell. As soon as she was out and about, it was apparent that she was just a total brat. A blind man could tell! Samael simultaneously scoffed and found it amusing, though the amusement part seemed dominant. Who did she think she was? Oh, right, she was a Queen. Sam supposed that she had the right to act like a total brat, or... no. Maybe not a total brat. She had the right to act like she was the best, to an extent, and the right to act like a lady and a leader. 'Brat' was just a juvenile form of that. Maybe she'd grow out of it? It would depends. Sam had known some kids that had been awful brats when they were little, but were fine when they were older. Some just stayed brats, though. Hm. Well. It would depend.
Another think when as expected, too, which was that the gold and the cyan butted heads. Eventually the cyan went running, and Samael sniffed. The cyan should have gotten out of there earlier, silly thing. There were so many horror stories about angry golds on the Sands. Luckily, the cyan got out of it unharmed and went off to Impress. She didn't know the boy, but wasn't he one of those ones that always looked grumpy? Or stuck up? There were a few nasties in the bunch. It was probably good she didn't know them personally.
A green hatched and made a point of eliciting a big fit from the gold. Well, there were some... plucky dragonets today. Staring contests with the girl, butting in front of the gold, generally annoying the brat-gold... Admittedly, the temper tantrum was a source of entertainment for Samael. Her face was squished into a rather confused-amused mess, eyebrow quirked, half-smiling, as she watched the little gold kicking up sand and whining and huffing. Her mother soon scolded her, which was good - that's how you got kids to stop what they were doing. Otherwise they thought it was fine. The green Impressed, and then that left the gold and that floaty little cyan over there.
Wait, though. What was that?
Googley eyes on the she-brown, Samael's mind got away from her, running. It looked like a girl? But it was brown? Wasn't it too light to be an actual brown? Browns weren't girls. Was it a new colour? Or maybe she just hadn't heard about this one before? It was a possibility. Sam wasn't exactly in the loop in terms of Weyr-happenings. She wondered, though, if it was just a rather feminine-looking, abnormally light-coloured brown. Or a mutation. Or something else entirely? She could tell everyone else was wondering, too. Luckily for the she-brown (was it even a she?), it had the sense to politely wait for the gold to take her pick of the girls. Samael felt rather relieved at that. She really didn't want to see any fighting. Nor did she want to feel the urge to go in and mother the bratty gold and get her to shape up. These aren't kids, Sam. They're DRAGONS.
Then there was another one! From Kalith's clutch. Two similar oddities from two different clutches? Samael didn't know if that was considered weird or not by the masses, but it was definitely weird to her. She looked a little... slow. Still, though, she looked alright with it. It wasn't frustrating her. She was okay despite her apparent detachment. She supposed, then, that it had to be a new colour, because it would probably be like getting hit by lightning if two browns both happened to be feminine and awfully light-hued, at the same hatching. Well, it was definitely weird, but that was okay. She'd roll with it.
It wasn't hard to miss the green that hatched - she was so bright! Or... what. A huge, manly green? What was with all these genderbending dragons?! He definitely didn't act like his eye-blinding hue, either. This just kept getting weirder. She watched him go off and Impress, to the boys, and then... was that his voice in her head? A viridian? A new colour, then. Huh! This hatching was just full of surprises. With a bit of a confused smile, she just accepted it. Days were allowed to be strange.
So there was the cyan, the two pink-brown oddities, and the gold now. The latter definitely had Samael's attention now. She watched the little Queen, with less amusement and far more plain intrigue now. Of course everyone was eager to see who the Queen went to. Even Sam wasn't exempt from that. Well, she was eager to see who every dragon went to, but right now her attention was all for Goldie. [/blockquote]

Everyone was silent as the gold egg began to shake and rock; even the spectators were silent. The Queen egg was hatching, after all. Lines spread across the eggs, which slowly broke apart to reveal a dark gold dragonet. She seemed graceful, with the way she unfolded and refolded her wings. And then the Gold took a step, glancing in the direction of the Cyan, sniffing before she turned her nose away from the weaker Cyan in a very . . . royal manner, almost. As if she considered herself to be better than everyone else, particularly the Cyan from Kalith's clutch. She didn't look as pretty now. She looked more like a spoiled brat.
And with that thought, Nyat watched the gold lumber towards one of the Cyans, towering of the Cyan dragonet much like the Cyan had towered over that green not that long ago. But unlike the Green before, the Cyan didn't cower. Instead, the Cyan locked gazes with her Queen and stared. And stared. And stared.
Nyat only watched for a little bit before glancing over his shoulder to eye Kalith's clutch. More eggs were shaking now, but only the Cyan remained, still journeying towards the Candidates. It seemed to be taking her a while, though he supposed that that could be because Callistath's clutch was hatching so quickly.
He shrugged and glanced in the direction of the Cyan-Gold standoff, and was surprised to see the head of the Cyan as the dragonet darted between the eggs and sprinting up to the boy Candidates. It didn't take her long at all to pick, as she hurried up to one of the boys, Impressing. Nyat's hands came together for the Impression, though he had to say that he didn't envy the boy who'd Impressed to the Cyan beyond the fact that they had Impressed.
And with that, it was only the Gold and the smaller Cyan on the Sands, though Nyat did sneak a quick glance in the direction of Kalith's clutch to be sure that he hadn't missed any of the Copper's clutch hatching. He was fairly sure he hadn't missed any Impressions, as the applause of the remaining Candidates ought to have alerted him to this.
The Gold was almost entirely alone on the Sands for then, but it wasn't going to remain that way for long; another egg had cracked open to reveal a lighter colored Green. She seemed to be a smart thing, and was walking as far away from the Gold as possible. It seemed to be fated, however, that the Green pass the Gold's path on the way to the females, and the Gold wasn't happy about that at all. Nyat wasn't really surprised by the fact that the Queen Hatchling wasn't happy by this. She didn't seem like the kind of Queen that would be happy about some dragon crossing her path. Especially not a Green, which the Green seemed aware of.
When the Gold began stalking forward, doing her best to cow the Green into obedience like she'd nearly done with the Cyan, the Green merely shot the Gold a glance, and just like that any issues were avoided. The Gold stomped off to throw a tantrum, kicking at the sand angrily and making angry noises. The Gold Hatchling did, at least, quiet down when Callistath scolded her, and Nyat glanced away from the Gold in time to see the Green that hadn't been cowed by the Gold in the slightest Impress to one of the girls. He clapped for the girl, absently, but he clapped all the same.
And once more, it was only the Gold and the Cyan that was still making her way towards the Candidates, and the Gold was showing off for the Candidates, it seemed, when another egg began to crack open. The tan egg was cracking open slowly, quietly, almost as if it didn't want the Gold to notice its hatching. Or maybe it didn't want to make a show out of its Hatching.
Still, instead of watching the Gold, Nyat craned his neck to watch the egg hatch. Out of the egg came what looked like a Brown, except the dragonet's hide wasn't brown; it had a pink tint to it. And that dragonet was definitely a female. She was slender and lithe, without a bulky build. Yes, she was definitely a female dragonet; a little lady to make up for what the Gold lacked?
And she was a lovely thing, yet another new mutation originating on Dalibor's sands, like the Cyans. Or was she just a fluke? Was he wrong about her being a female and she was just a very large and girly Brown? Well, no matter what, she was a lovely girl-brown. Even if she was just a fluke, she was an interesting fluke.
Nyat glanced towards Kalith's clutch and was startled to see that the Cyan was still making her way to the Candidates. Dang... It sure was taking that Cyan a while, but maybe that was just because she wasn't sure who Hers was. That could possibly explain it, no? Anyways, Kalith's eggs were rocking. It wasn't just Callistath's eggs that were Hatching. The Copper Queen of the Weyr's eggs were rocking as well; and one of the eggs cracked open to reveal a very beige looking brown.
A second glance at the brown revealed that she had a very feminine build. The dragonet wasn't burly like a brown in the slightest, slenderly built and very feminine looking. Another female brown, it seemed? Dalibor's sands sure were creating quite a few oddities today. First there were more of those Cyans that had only originated from Dalibor's Sands, and now there were these girl browns that looked to be about the size of a red hatchling.
But another egg was rocking, cracking very precisely, each movement seeming to be well timed, if a dragonet's hatching could be well timed. Soon enough, the egg cracked open. The first thing Nyat noticed was that the dragonet was a blinding green coloring. The second, third, and fourth? He was a male, about the size of a subking, and had a subtle metallic glimmer. That dragonet was absolutely blindingly green, however, and that was what stuck with Nyat.
A male green? And that in and of itself made the dragonet more interesting to Nyat than those female dragonets. A male green. A new mutation, much like the female browns, but this one was blindingly green. Blindingly. His thoughts repeated this observation over and over, as it was a shocking one. It had shocked Nyat, and he was sure that the other Candidates were just as startled as he was. Two new colors from this Hatching? And it wasn't even over.
The male green had reached the males, seeming to judge the females unworthy of him. It didn't take the dragonet long to Impress, and Nyat's hands had barely begun to come together when the male green's voice echoed in his head. I am a viridian. Not a green, I repeat, a viridian. V-I-R-I-D-I-A-N. I would appreciate it to be referred to as such. A viridian, huh? A viridian. Not necessarily a fitting name, considering that the name implied there was a bit more of a blue tinge to his hide, but whatever floated the dragonets boat, eh? And almost immediately after that, Kalith affirmed the dragonet's statement, though she didn't sound entirely approving. Now that the mental announcements were over, Nyat forced himself to remember to applaud for the dragonet's Impression, despite the fact that he was torn between watching the Gold, the Cyan, and the two female brown. He doubted the Gold would be happy that dragonets were encroaching on her Sands, but that wasn't his issue. Golds didn't go to boys. -- Rayna, along with most of the girls, was watching with baited breath as the stands fell silent. The gold egg was twitching from side to side, rocking back and forth. The dragonet inside it would be revealed very soon, as lines were spreading out along the egg. Rayna was aware that she was holding her breath and forced herself to breath as the gold egg spilled open to reveal . . . a Gold. A deep gold color, her hide was, and while she wasn't a large gold, she wasn't a small one either, and she did look to be bigger than Callistath was when she'd hatched. The way that the gold unfolded and replaced her wings, however, seemed very refined and ladylike. Her ladylike manner disappeared an instant later, however, when she took a step forward, sniffing in the direction of Kalith's Cyan, before turning her nose away in disgust, as if the Cyan was beneath her. Now the Gold looked less like a refined lady and more like a . . . well, a spoiled brat. And now she was lumbering towards Callistath's Cyan, the one who'd been eying her egg with something most likely sinister in her mind, looming over the Cyan in a similar manner to when the Cyan had tried to loom over the Green that was barely smaller than her, but instead of cowering as the Green had done, the Cyan stared back, not at all scared and a distinctly stubborn creature. The staring contest went on, and Rayna was nearly done with the whole thing and ready to go back to watching Kalith's Cyan make its way to the Candidates when the Gold abruptly grew bored and lashed out at the Cyan, who, with a dazzling show of reflexes, dodged through the eggs and ran up to a male Candidate, Impressing to the boy. Rayna clapped for the boy, watching the Cyan for only a moment after her Impression, but by the time she'd begun clapping, Rayna was already back to watching both the eggs and the Gold. With the Cyan's Impression, it was only the Gold and Kalith's Cyan on the sands, the latter still journeying towards the Candidates, and taking quite a while with it as well. The Gold was haughtily ignoring the other Cyan when yet another egg began to crack open, revealing a lighter green. She was a fairly smart thing, avoiding the Gold's path as best she could, but Hers was among the females, it seemed, which meant she'd have to cross the Gold's path, which the Gold was most definitely not happy with. That didn't really surprise Rayna; this Gold wasn't the kind of dragon that really wanted to share her sands, or even her path, it seemed. Rayna watched as the Gold stopped forward, seemingly intent on cowing the Green into obedience, unlike her failure with the Cyan, but much like the Cyan, the Green was unafraid, merely shooting the Gold an unemotional glance as she continued walking forward. Rayna watched the Gold, interested in seeing how the spoiled dragonet reacted, and wasn't disappointed by the Hatchlings antics; the Gold dragonet immediately threw a tantrum, kicking at the Sand and making infuriated noises, though she did quiet down, when, looking like a mortified parent, Callistath scolded her. A smattering of applause alerted her to the fact that the light Green had Impressed. At least someone had been watching something other than the Gold's show, Rayna thought with an inward snort as she clapped for the girl's Impression. Otherwise, she would've missed the dragonet's Impression entirely, and would've definitely looked rude, and despite not really being a lady, she didn't like being rude. Now that it was only the Gold and the Cyan on the sands, and the Cyan was still making her way, slowly but surely, towards the Candidates, the tan egg was cracking open quietly, as if whatever was inside didn't want anyone to notice its hatching. Rayna straightened up from the slouch she'd naturally assumed so that she could see the egg's hatching. Yes, the Queen was interesting, but she didn't seem ready to Impress, so Rayna figured there was no harm in peering at the eggs, especially one that was Hatching. Out from the egg came . . . a brown? With a pink tint to its hide? And would you look at the dragonet's feminine build? Was that a female brown? But browns weren't female? That dragonet was definitely a female, though. Browns were burly, muscular, sorta like a tree trunk, you know? And this dragonet was . . . girly looking, Rayna decided. A new mutation, then? Or perhaps a fluke. If it was a mutation, though, it would be one of a rapidly climbing number of colors that originated only from Dalibor's sands. Anyways, with that Hatching over, Rayna shrugged off the awe. This dragonet might just be a very feminine looking brown, and not a new mutation at all. With Dalibor's clutches, you never knew. And besides which, she wanted to see if anymore of Kalith's eggs had Hatched. It was hard to watch two different clutches hatch without focusing on one, and Rayna had been focusing on Callistath's clutch, she noted guiltily. She was lucky to have glanced in the direction of Kalith's clutch in time to see another of her eggs rocking back and forth, cracking almost as soon as Rayna glanced in that direction to reveal a beige brown. Just a brown. And then Rayna looked at the brown again. The dragonet, like the other brown looking dragonet on the sands, had a feminine build. So . . . these weren't browns, were they? They were bigger than brown hatchlings, bigger than most red ones, too, if she remembered correctly, but smaller than most orange hatchlings. So, a new sub-queen, perhaps? Even then, the surprises of this Hatching weren't over yet; another one of Kalith's eggs was rocking back and forth in a well timed manner, as if the dragonet inside was getting out in the most mechanical way possible. The egg was cracking open precisely, and rather quickly, from Rayna's point of view, it was cracking open to reveal a blindingly green dragonet. Well, that was the first thing she noticed about it, anyways. That it was blindingly green. The second thing she noticed was that the dragonet was a male; it was kind of hard to miss. Much like the female browns on the Sands, this green dragonet was masculine, not feminine like his green cousins (were they even cousins?). It was, like his hide, very obvious. It had just taken her a moment to look beyond his very green hide and realize it. Immediately, the male green was headed towards the males, deciding that the females weren't worth his time, it seemed. That rankled slightly, but Rayna shrugged it off as the dragonet Impressed, pasting a smile on her face as she applauded for the Impression. She didn't have long to clap without being interrupted, however, and her hands stilled as the green male's voice spoke in her mind. I am a viridian. Not a green, I repeat, a viridian. V-I-R-I-D-I-A-N. I would appreciate it to be referred to as such. He was declaring himself a viridian, was he? He didn't look like he had the blue tint his name implied, but perhaps there were more viridians on the way, and they had a blue tint to their hide or something? Or maybe he just liked to sound scientific. Whatever the dragonet wanted to do was fine with her. New colors weren't her problem. It wasn't as if they were her eggs on the sands. People didn't even lay eggs. And besides, with Kalith affirming her hatchling's statement, he was a viridian now, no matter what people might think to themselves about the male green--viridian. Rayna had to correct her thoughts about the viridian. She couldn't exactly call it a male green mentally anymore, or at a key time, she might slip up and call the viridian a male green in public. That would be foolish of her, she had to stop the habit in its tracks now. With that thought, Rayna forced her attention away from the blindingly green viridian and eyed the Queen. She wondered how the dragonet would react to sharing her sands with even more dragonets. She hadn't reacted very well to that green, after all.[/blockquote]

Her still-dripping eyes were focused blearily on her sandals, wild and wicked imagination mixing with her unrestrained feelings. Medusa's hand in hers was a comfort to her, giving a low sniff as she glanced over at the other girl as applause thundered around them as Impression followed Impression; catching the sight of the now newly-named I'tier and his Blue, the dragons that seemed so fond of Tieler and Lesa bringing her attention back around to the female portion of the Candidates.
She looked at the red-headed zombie and blinked the tears down her cheeks, she and Lesa were holding hands, too! Were they scared, too? Of course, neither of the girls were paying Loto much mind because they were enraptured by the sands and the dragons on them. Hesitantly, she lifted her eyes to see what there was to see, and she was frozen by it. Her eyes widened, her brows raised as she blinked her eyes clear with a shuddering breath.
"T- ta!" It was a weak-sounding, breathless noise caught between awe and fear as those elegant, spidery streaks crossed down the golden egg. The birth of a Queen was underway, and she couldn't help but allow her mouth to run. "Usa, look-look!" She'd lightly nudge Medusa's side roughly [but not meanly], pointing at the great golden egg as if the whole malarkey weren't blatantly obvious.
It didn't actually become real malarkey until the proud little diva was hatched, the sheen of her metallic hide holding Loto's eye for a long moment. She watched her prance, and watched her flaunt her beauty as a beast, the reaction to her siblings earning a startled but relatively quiet yelp from Loto. The large girl ducked behind her much smaller companion, curled over Medusa's shoulder and peering out at the hatching group with wide eyes.
Things had room to get weird, and that's exactly what they did.
Wide eyes that had predictably and belatedly noticed Kalith's hatching clutch for what seemed like the first time, and the sight of the other hatchlings. Her attention had not been halved, but successfully stolen as she uncoiled from behind Medusa. Her figure relaxed a fraction, put at ease. "She's so pretty." Whispered words that were likely meant for her room mate as she took in the sight of the lightly pink-licked female brown, sitting patiently at the whimsy of the more temperamental gold.
The beige-toned snaking browned female brought a smile to her face, an intake of air clearing away the tears that had been streaming down her cheeks so shamelessly. The bright, masculine green that moved with a purpose away from the girls and towards the boys caused her to turn her head and follow him to where he united with the newly-dubbed B'lor. Her hands moved together in easy applause with the tying of a new bond and a new color.
"Viridian..." She repeated the color he'd given them all with a certain awe, taken in by these exciting new colors more than she'd been wooed by the newly-hatched gold; it wasn't favoritism so much as the awe at the new life that took on more than one demention as she turned her head to eagerly take in the image of the brown-toned females. Their colors were as of yet unnamed, but she couldn't help but feel proud for them.
The newly-hatched Gold's temper was something that had slipped her mind.

Enerveth had Impressed to her. Enerveth had Impressed to her. Olivia could have jumped up and down if not for the fact that her legs felt weak and buttery. She collapsed. “ Enerveth, why, I know you didn’t do anything wrong! I forgive you!” Enerveth breathed a sigh of relief, The Cyan just… I’m hungry. “ Yes, of course, let’s get you food.” Olivia said, and smiled down at her dragon. She had been good, she had been good and had received a Green.[/blockquote][/ul]

Hatching. Impression. Hatching. Impression.
This was the cycle. A dragon would hatch, find Theirs, and Impress. It was a glorious event, to be sure, but Kat was getting antsy. There were quite a few eggs left, to be sure...But still...What if she wasn't picked? She knew that there would be other Hatchings to attend but...
What if she wasn't good enough?
What if she wasn't good enough to ever be a Rider? Or to have a Bonded? The girl's eyes went wide as she watched bonded pairs walk off the Sands happily. How that must have felt! Would she ever get that feeling? If there was one thing on Pern she could wish for, it would be to have a dragon. But the dragon picked the human, and not the other way around.
Eggs cracking caught her attention. The pale girl swiveled her eyes toward the sound, watching the dragons pop from their shells. There was a cyan on the ground now, but it seemed confused. There were also two...browns? Wait. Were they really browns? Their hides seemed brownish, but they had weird splotches on them. And they looked really feminine. Girl browns?! How did that even happen? Dragons sure were amazing creatures.
Kat watched as the brown...ish? creatures roamed the Sands. Regardless of their color, they sure were adorable! And then there was that bright flash of light...Where was that coming from? She quickly turned in the direction of an eye-popping gree-err, viridian dragon. That's what he wanted to be called, so she had to obey. "Such funny creatures..." she mused, all scary thoughts from before replaced by the oddities of the dragons. Even if she didn't Impress, just seeing them around the weyr would be nice. Maybe she could even become friends with their riders! That would be nice, too.
Oh, the older green had Impressed! To...Oh! Olivia! Kat clapped excitedly for the girl, and shot her a large grin. When had that one even gotten on the Sands? All these hatchings were happening too fast for her small brain to keep up with. She was truly happy for her new friend, though. She really did deserve a good dragon friend!
Then there were gasps as Kat's head turned back once more to the eggs. What was going on now? Since she'd pushed herself toward the back of the group, she had to inch her way closer to the middle in order to get a better look. The gold had hatched! No wonder everyone was watching. Kat understood that they outranked every other color...but she wondered why everyone thought they were so amazing. To her, they were just another dragon. But it wasn't like she thought of dragons as insignificant or below her. The complete opposite! Dragons were creatures that Pernese couldn't live without! Every dragon, regardless of color or rank, should be treated equally!
So, while everyone else seemed to fawn over the gold, Kat decided to pay more attention to the mutated browns. They were different and exciting! With quick, quiet steps she retreated back to her place toward the end of the group, just far back enough to where she could watch the eggs, and to where the dragons could see her. She didn't want any attention on herself, anyway.

Belor had been on the Sands for some time, but had found none of the hatchlings worth his attention. No Kings, meaning none of them were for him, meaning he was getting bored. Of course, he didn't show it. Both of the Queens showed obvious dislike for the candidates. How could he blame them after what some of them had done? That being said, he was going to do absolutely nothing to attract their attention. He had bowed to them both when he arrived, a good and proper bow with the respect these great dragons deserved, and taken his place among the males. Zelen was on his shoulder, cheerfully looking out at everything. Hers was excited about this, so that meant it was a good thing and she should be excited too. She occasionally walked across from one shoulder to the other so she could have a better view of the hatchlings.
The one that really caught his attention was the Queen egg. That dragon and her rider could become prominent figures in his future, so the Gold's decision was of interest to him. More interest than the others so far, anyway. But she seemed...off. That she liked being the center of attention too much. He was all for being proud of your own superiority, obviously, but not when it stretched the bounds of showing off like this. She was alienating everyone with her behavior, not just those not worthy of her time. Hopefully whoever she chose would be able to show her the error of her ways. The next dragonet to catch his attention was what looked to be a female Brown with a pink tint to her hide. That was odd. Was this a new Queen color, or sub-Queen, or just a girly-looking Brown? It was hard to tell, but her existence was soon confirmed by another hatchling of the same color and shape. So it looked like there really was a new mutation, which was interesting by default. But they were all taking their time in Impressing, none of the three were even making their way toward the Candidates yet.
Other hatchlings continued to Impress, but one flash of blinding green drew his eyes back over to Kalith's clutch. At first he was ready to dismiss the appearance of yet another Green, until he noticed how large it was. And how definitely male it was. A huge, male Green? Or a different color entirely? It was, once again, difficult to tell what this new dragon would be like, but the faint glossiness of his hide didn't escape Belor. Was he a new King? Belor watched intently as he moved across the sands, noting his serious manner. If he was a King, Belor wanted him. What better way to prove his excellence than Impressing to the first of a new color of Kings. The bright hatchling went directly to the males and began looking them over appraisingly. He was methodical in his inspections, searching for any faults and moving on when he found them. This gave Belor hope and he couldn't help but stand a bit straighter as he got closer. If he was looking for the best, he would stop at Belor. He just knew he would. And he did.
]B'lorMine, your Neth will need sustenance momentarily. Belor, now B'lor, smirked. Of course Neth had chosen him. He ignored the air of disapproval around his dragon as his happiness and sense of smug satisfaction took precedence over any other emotions. I am a viridian. Not a green, I repeat, a viridian. V-I-R-I-D-I-A-N. I would appreciate it to be referred to as such. Viridian, eh? Well, not the most accurate name in the world, but he was obviously not a Green despite his color, so he had to be called something. Zelen stretched her neck out as far it could go to get a good look at what she now considered to be her larger brother. She liked him alright, but she being the more cheerful sort, she would like pretty much anyone.
After Neth's public announcement, B'lor led him over to the food. This way Neth. Let's go. It was odd, having another creature in his thoughts in this way. Zelen was a constant cheery presence in his mind, but now he added an intelligent and dissatisfied presence, crowding his head with the emotions of others. The two personalities of his creatures were so far apart it added to his slight disorientation, but he knew what needed to be done and would do it. Now that he had what he had been waiting all this time for, he could really begin to make his way up in the ranks. He grabbed some meat and placed it where Neth could get at it, waiting for him to begin.
Neth didn't approve of the way he was being fed. Why not just let him eat his fill on his own rather than give him portions like this? He found the reason why in His' mind, but he still didn't have to approve. He could control himself. He didn't need this coddling. I suppose this will have to do. He said to His and began eating, quickly finishing so that he could have some more. He ate another three helpings, B'lor was being overly cautious with their sizes, before he reached a comfortable sense of being full.

The pace started to pick up again. And, soon, the Gold hatched. She held many people in awe and she seemed to know it. Cheko, however, wasn't one of those people. So what? She was a Queen. There was another Gold and a Copper on the Sands. Sure, she was a new Queen, a new future leader for the Weyr. But, still. It wasn't too big of a deal.
Instead, he found the egg that hatched shortly after much more interesting. It looked kind of like a brown. But kind of pink too. And it was a girl. Well, that seemed to be what it was. And soon, one Hatched on Kalith's side too, followed by a male green. What was going on? Cheko had no clue, but at least they held his attention better than the Gold. The two girl browns seemed to want to hold off on Impressing, but the green male marched right up to the boys. Cheko felt the dragon look at him with judging eyes as he stalked past him. That dragon was much too serious. Cheko was glad it wasn't his. Could Cheko be serious? Yes. But not in the same manner as the dragon.
Cheko watched as the "green" Impressed, then announced to everyone that he was, in fact, not a green, but a viridian. Ok, whatever. Green...viridian...whatever floated his boat. Still looked green to Cheko.

The arrival of O`sho seem to trigger something. Kela saw Fajra relax a bit at the sight of the Sr. Weyrleader nearby, even if it was for a short bit. Then the Copper Queen was beginning to move slightly. The Copper Queen moved her wing back to reveal that her eggs were beginning to move. Kela`s heart began to pound once more. She had a feeling that Kalith`s eggs were going to Hatch today. Lately there had been a lot of double Hatchings, starting with Kalith and Nikianeth`s Clutches, but the sight of these eggs moving brought some renewed joy to Kela`s heart. More eggs were Hatching, which meant that there was a possibility that she was going to Impress today! Hopefully! She smiled lightly. She could not decide which eggs to keep her eyes on now. Both sets were wonderful looking!
Then Kalith`s first egg Hatched! And the egg revealed a Pink! An interesting but adorably cute Pink with spots. Kela giggled slightly for a second at the sight. No, she was not laughing at the Pink because she was weird looking, she was laughing because the Pink was very unique! Kela had to keep reminding herself that dragons did not always Hatch out normal looking. And they were very unpredictable at the same time! And not only was there a Pink on the Sands but another Cyan! And she was just as spotted as her sister. They could have been twins if their colors were not so different. Well, they were sisters anyways, so it worked out well in their favor. Kela straightened herself up some, watching the little dragons take their first steps into the world.
The Pink Impressed to one of the girls near her. “Congrats,” Kela whispered lightly at the sight of the new pair. Kela did not feel jealous or heartbroken that she had not Impressed yet. Kela was taking this with some stride, trying to be patient and calm about this. She had been to several Hatchings where she had learned that dragons will Impress to who they wanted and felt like they suited their needs. Kela continued to watch as the new dragon pair made their way to the feeding buckets, the little Pink seem to still be bouncing up and down with energy. That Pink was definitely very energetic. The Pink reminded her of one of the children she usually watched. The child always wanted to play Tag of Adventure with the rest of the children.
There was another sound of clapping as another girl made her Impression. This time it was to the little Pink that had been weaving her way in and out of the Candidates. Good for you, little one, Kela thought as her smile continued on, never wavering one bit as she watched the Impressions continue. Another Impression was made by the Green that was on the Sands now. She felt a little sorry as the Green was shoved by the Cyan, but the Green took the chance to make her Impression here and now. And to another girl that was also on the Sands. There sure were a lot of female Candidates on the Sands. Kela wondered if this was the normal for a Weyr. She had heard stories of times in the past when females could not Impress for a long time. Maybe this was the reason: Females were making their comeback after being pushed away from the Sands too long. Well, whatever the reason, Kela was glad they were here for the dragons to make their Impressions.
There was a sudden quiet on the Sands. She could hear the sounds of held breaths once more. Kela felt like it took her two minutes to turn her eyes on what was going to be one of the main things in this Hatching. The Queen egg was moving now. The Queen was about to Hatch. Kela never forgot about the Queen egg, but her attention had been caught by the Hatching and Impressions of the other dragons. Crack! Crack! The Queen stepped out with pure elegance! And it was a Gold dragon! Just like her mother! Kela felt her heart skip beats. The Queen was here. The Queen was here! As the Queen moved, she was determined to teach the Cyan a lesson it seemed. But the Cyan argued back. Kela worried about the Cyan. She did not want to see the Cyan get hurt! But the Cyan quickly moved and Impressed to… a boy this time! Kela began to clap for the young man.
Another egg began to move now! This time it was a Green dragon. She was very light in color. The Gold was no longer alone on the Sands. But the Green did not seem to care about her Gold sister, which caused the little Gold to start getting angry. But Callistath stopped the incident by separating the two. Kela was happy that a fight had not ensued. She did not want any dragons to get hurt, though both dragons were very lovely. The Gold was interesting indeed. She wanted attention. So Kela turned her attention onto the Gold. As she did so, another wave of applause sounded through the stands as the Green made her Impression, and to a girl that she had seen around that had many Fire Lizards. That girl was going to have her hands full now.
Crack! This Hatching was going quickly. Another egg Hatched. Another Brown! No, wait, something was very different about this brown colored dragon. Kela did not know what Callistath knew, so Kela continued to believe that the dragon was a Brown. And the Brown was very reserved. She appeared to be waiting on her Gold sister to go on and Impress. Kela smiled. Her attention back onto the Gold dragon, she waited for the young Queen to make her move. Queens did not need to be hurried. The Queen would take her time and move when she felt like it. Kela stood patiently, waiting for the Gold to make her move. She wondered which girl would Impress the Queen. Any girl who got her would be very lucky. Very lucky indeed.
More eggs Hatched. Another Brown Hatched, but had the same reserved feeling that the other Brown had. She wondered who these Browns would Impress to. After all, it did not seem unusual for a girl to Impress a Brown since there was another female BrownRider in the Weyr. What was that girl`s name? Durian, she believed. She did not see the girl around often, but she remembered her because she was different from many people. A Green Hatched on the Sands next, but something was also unusual about him. Things were definitely beginning to feel very different on the Sands. Since the Hatching of the Gold, things felt like they were going in a different direction. What was this unusual feeling that Kela was beginning to feel? She was not sure. She was not trying to let it affect her as she kept her eyes on the Gold, wanting the Gold to Impress so she would be safe.
She heard rumblings. The Green had moved and Impressed to one of the boys. But, wait, she heard Kalith call out to the audience that the dragon was not a Green! That the dragon was a… Viridian? A male? Kela knew that this Hatching was beginning to feel different. A new mutation had Hatched onto the Sands. It had been several Turns since a mutation had Hatched. The last new mutation to Hatch had been a Cyan. But Cyans were beginning to be reverie as a normal color now. Not many people were looking down on them with suspicion. Kela felt her heart beat hard inside her chest. If there were new mutations on the Sands, what were these Browns. Were they normal or were they mutations? She was not sure, and there was no way of knowing until they Impressed.

Predictably, the Queen was not very happy with these new arrivals. The pinkish browns behind her she didn't care about, simply because of the fact that they 1) totally blended in with the sand and were thus invisible to the Gold and 2) were quiet. The Gold was louder! She was more important! Stupid new colors were stupid and not fair to her! This was her time in the spotlight... how dare they take it from her! The Viridian's arrival definitely just made her even angrier and more annoyed. She began to kick up sand again, whining out loud and throwing yet another tantrum. Entirely embarrassed by her daughter's actions, once more, Callistath sharply berated the Gold, staring deeply at her until the Gold shrunk away from her mother's scolding.
Visibly chastised, she sulked down to the Candidates, clearly intending on taking her anger out on them. It wasn't FAIR! She slashed at Tieler's legs sharply, claws digging into the other girl. Then she skipped a few and moved on to Kela, continuing her rampage. Not FAIR! The Gold continued to whine, she never got what she wanted and it wasn't fair! She raked her claws down the girl's arm and kept moving. Next in her warpath was Katheryne, pushing at the girl with her forepaw and knocking her to the ground. The wounds she left weren't enough to threaten the girl's lives... but definitely enough to scar. No girl in her path escaped, the Gold was letting her rage boil as she took out her anger on the Candidates. The female Brown was also moving, however. She, perhaps, wasn't the brightest either, similar to her sister of the same mutation, but... she knew the rules. And rules were really the only thing she fully knew and understood. You obeyed rules. You followed rules. And you protected rules.
So she slowly followed after the Gold, eyeing the Candidates as she quietly searched for Hers. She paused by Tieler, but after a moment, she moved on, following in the Gold's warpath. The Gold wasn't even close to being done yet. She moved on the Medusa and stopped, staring at the girl. Was she right for her? No! No no no no no no no! With an annoyed whine, the Gold slashed out again, clawing at Medusa's legs. She glared at Loto, but simply huffed angerly and stomped off, her frustration slowly ebbing away. Hmph. It still wasn't fair, though! And picking up on some of the girls thoughts only served to make her temper rise again, as she whirled on Samael.
She walked towards the girl with as much haughtyness as she could muster, planning on doing some definite damage to this girl, unlike the marks she'd left on the others. That would teach her! But before she could move, a pinkish blur pushed her to the side, standing in front of Samael. It wasn't a smart thing to do, but the oddly colored dragon wasn't exactly the smartest ever... and, first and foremost, she would protect the things important to her. It was the only time she would ever dare to break the rules she revered so much, if she had to protect. She would obey, she would listen, and she would protect. The strange female repeated her mantra in her head. The Gold gave an exaggerated headtoss, and continued down the girls. She slashed half-heartedly at one of the other girls and kept moving. Whatever. She was still better! So much better! At least she wasn't a stupid ugly weird mutation, so nyeh!
Now she was looking through the girls seriously, whining mentally about how entirely unfair this was and how the other stupid dragons could have waited so she could pick from all the stupid girls! Not fair! Definitely not fair! She huffed through the girls, knocking into them on purpose when they had stupid thoughts that annoyed her, but none annoyed her as bad as Samael had. There! Aha! Perfect, perfect, perfect! Giving a little triumphant sound, the Gold stomped over to her chosen girl, standing in front of her, looking extremely full of herself. Everyone is soooo dumb, RaynaMine! You and your Couineth are way better than any of them! Waaay better, she paused, and then realized... oh wow, she was really, really hungry! And I want food. Feed me noooowww! she whined, like a child. It didn't seem like this was something she could grow out of, either. Hopefully Rayna would be able to control the Gold... and not let herself get walked all over.
Gold: Whiney, bratty, immature. -Couineth [whine] [D4AF37]
With the Gold safely Impressed and her attention away from the girls, the pinkish brown colored dragon turned to face Samael. Naireth will let no harm come to you, SamaelMine. She will not be allowed to hurt you. the dragon's voice was calm, but firm. But we must listen to her, she was especially firm about this, not even realizing just how contradictory her words were. Rules were all she knew. The world? How to behave normally? She had absolutely no clue. It would be up to hers to teach her that life wasn't just about toeing the line.
Callistath watched the brownish dragon Impress, her eyes whirling with intense emotions. She had Impressed. Her daughters were both safe, though she seemed to care a bit more about the brownish pink dragon... and not her bratty daughter. It was an important moment. She had been the first of her color, and Kalith's had been the second. The large Gold gave a glance to Kalith, then looked back at everyone else. They are called Tans. They are female, she christened the new color as "Tan", seeming pleased with them. Unlike the Viridians, the Tans were very much like their name. They were tan. They were also larger than Reds, though far smaller than Coppers. They were most certainly lesser Queens.
Tan: Subservient, protective, focused. -Naireth [civil servant] [EDC9AF]
Avalle eyed the newly Impressed Queenpair and the newly Impressed Tanpair. She made a note to approach the Queenpair after this was over. But it wasn't over yet, even if the Sands were empty on their side. The large, camo-colored egg that had been next to the Queen began to shake and crack, the dragonet inside very intent on escaping the prison. The egg snapped open with a large craaaack! and the dragonet inside walked out, his steps precise and his whole body sharply forward. Yes... it was a he. And he was also green. It was obvious he was yet another one of those Viridians, as his hide was a yellow-green. However, unlike his uncle, he wasn't a uniform, solid color. He was, similar to his egg, almost camo in shade. Yellows and greens rippled over his hide. He was also large... smaller than the Tans, but large for his, er, new color. Maybe? It was actually rather difficult to tell.
The second Viridian seemed just as straightforward and serious as the other had been, and made to walk directly towards the boys... but stopped. Something was wrong. Something was off, and it was making his temper boil. This. This was it. Those... those shells. Those remaining eggs. They weren't straight. They were knocked and splayed and fallen over everywhere. And it made him angry. With stiff, obviously angry movements, he began to sort the remaining eggs and hide the annoying, uneven eggshells in the sand. Obsessing completely over the eggs, it was as if nothing else existed. He was on a rampage, though a far different rampage than the Gold. The only thing that filled his mind was straight straight straight straight as he pushed the eggs... to the chagrin of Callistath, who swatted him away from them with her tail.
With the eggs uneven and him not being allowed to fix it, the Viridian boiled even more. This was not a laughing matter. Nothing was a laughing matter to him, ever. He wanted to fix the eggs. He needed to fix the eggs. They needed to be straight and perfect and absolutely straight. Perfectperfectperfectperfectperfect. It seemed like he was overloading, not being able to fix the uneven eggs. And as the Viridian was busy obsessing, the eggs were starting to hatch. The small, purple egg with black marks had begun to shake and cracked open to reveal a Black. He was a solid black color, though he had lighter, almost purpleish patches on his tail. He looked a bit innocent as he looked around curiously, remaining by his eggshells.
The Viridian still appeared to be dealing with his extreme OCD as the Black took some hesitant steps forward. He seemed like a playful sort, blissfully lost in his own little world. That left only a few eggs left, though the hatching wasn't over yet. There were still Candidates to Impress, and there were still a lot of eggs on Kalith's side of the Sands.

So they were Tans. Odd, but still really cool. Katheryne watched happily as the mutated dragon followed the gold around, as if it was her servant. It was slightly annoying at first, but then Kat couldn't think that way. Although she'd never be someone's servant, she was as quiet as one. That was a bit annoying in itself. She really needed to grow out of her shyness.
But before she could really rant to herself, the gold was upon her. At first she was confused. Why was that little brat coming toward her with that look? That look was definitely NOT a good look. At first she took a tentative step back, but more soon followed as she tried to get away from the gold. It was going to hurt her! Suddenly she felt it; a hot, clawed paw to the stomach. "Gah!" she yelled, falling to her tailbone on the sands. They were still hot, and she was already getting a sunburn from the sun...The gold wasn't finished, though. She kept shoving more out of her way, until she was finally stopped by the newly named tan. 'Thank Faranth.' Kat hissed inwardly, looking at the two Impressions that seemed to happen almost instantly after that.
She would have clapped...but something wet seemed to be dripping on her. With large eyes, Kat took a glace down at her right leg...and regretted it instantly. While she was pushed down, the gold's leg had fallen upon her own, and her claw had just enough force to pierce her skin, leaving a semi-deep hole. It wasn't going to kill her, no, but it hurt. A LOT.
It felt like someone had stuck a dagger in her leg! Katheryne wanted to scream, but she just held it in, using her now sunburned hands to cover up the hole, which was dripping the dark sticky blood. Great. No dragon would want a girl who smelled of blood! Tears began to well up in Kat's eyes as she slowly shuffled to her feet. Blood still dripped from the puncture, but she didn't even care anymore. She was a mess! Her hair was frizzy and ruffled, white robe was stained with blood, pale skin now red and irritated by the sun's rays...just GREAT. This was not the way she wanted to cry, but she would not let anyone hear.
So there Katheryne stood, toward the back of the group, looking a mess while tears rolled down her face. The sand below her was streaked with blood and tears, but she didn't care. She was ashamed, sad, and as soon as the hatchings were over, she was going to run out of there as fast as she could.
Like any dragon would want her now.

What came next had been completely unexpected, and far from ‘magical’ or ‘special.’ The Gold, whom had been chastised a few times by Callistath, decided that it was time to go on a rampage. Stop! Come on, stop! she was yelling at it, and then it was standing before her, regarding her, and Tieler knew there would be no stop-not yet. She was about to become the Gold’s victim. It slashed at her legs angrily, hollering like a warrior. With a near scream Tieler fell, a few slanted gashes in her left leg. She gritted her teeth, placing her hand right across her cuts, the gushing blood soaking her hand. Her head dropped to her left knee, and she rocked, trying to bear the pain. She felt like calling for Lesa next to her, but she knew the girl could not do anything to take the pain away. No one could take the pain away...
She tried to pay attention to the impressions, hearing the vicious Gold impress to Rayna. Go figure, talk about karma. Hadn’t that been the girl she’d harassed in the hall? Yes, yes it was. Tieler breathed heavily, trying not to appear like a baby. She hadn’t lifted her head, continuing to rock, as if somehow that’d help. With a burst of cold air, Eclipse was above her, hovering with his over-sized wings. The black flitt creeled, having broken the rules that His set, because his was wounded. Certainly she wouldn’t be mad, and she’d understand that he needed to be here now. He dropped to the hot sands beside her, whirling up sand with his back winging. He sent happy images to her, of the lake, of Halbert, of Lesa. She inhaled deeply, appreciating his efforts. She was glad he was here, with her. There was no way she was impressing now. Eclipse would be all that she had when she went back to the Harper Hall.
It was her own fault that this had happened to her. She had practically been trying to feed the Gold’s psychotic behaviour. She had been focusing so intently on it too, and it wasn’t her dragonet. No, it was Rayna’s. She was glad that she hadn’t impressed it, or Lesa. Lesa deserved a much softer dragon, one that was kind, and thoughtful. Not that handful of a creature. Good luck to Rayna, she’d need it. Likely the seventeen-year-old was happy though, no matter her dragonet’s attitude, she was going to be a Weyrwoman. I’d rather be a Harper, Tieler thought, sending an image to Eclipse of Master Yendev, and her closet-room. Eclipse seemed confused, cocking his head to the side. He creeled again, loudly, thereafter he nudged the side of her leg with his small head. He took to the air again, beating his wings with all his might. He was trying to get anyone’s attention that he could so that His could be aided.

Yup, as Nyat had thought, the Queen was very unhappy with the new hatchlings. However, she didn't seem to notice the female browns, as he'd decided to call them until they were named by either Callistath, Kalith, or, like the Viridian, by themselves. She was throwing a tantrum, whining unhappily and kicking at the sand until Callistath stared at her until the other Gold shrunk away from her scolding, still looking as annoyed as ever as she stalked towards the female Candidates, eyes filled with red.
Right then, Nyat had never been happier that he was a boy. The way the Gold was watching those female Candidates was almost predatory, but not quite well thought out enough. He wasn't at all surprised when she began her path of mauling, claws ripping into this Candidate and that one with no apparent rhyme or reason. He really didn't envy those girls. Really.
The female Brown was also moving, however, headed towards the female Candidates as well, intending to Impress to one of them, he figured, eying each one of the Candidates that the Gold had mauled. She paused by a distinctive red haired girl, and paused, but kept moving, chasing after the furious Gold, who continued mauling Candidates left, right, and center, before whirling on one final Candidate, but the female Brown was having none of that. She moved with surprising quickness, moving between the Gold and the Candidate. The Gold tossed her head before moving on angrily, slashing at yet another Candidate.
But she seemed done being angry, seeming to look through the Candidates with the intention of Impressing for the first time, and surely enough, it didn't take her long at all to Impress to one of the girls. He remembered his manners, sure enough, and clapped loudly for the Queen's Impression, hands only stilling for a second or two before another smattering of applause signaled the Impression of the girl brown.
Nyat wasn't going to be allowed to call the 'girl brown' a girl brown much longer, as Callistath's voice was resounding in his mind, They are called Tans. They are female, Tans, huh? He rather liked the name, and unlike the name that the Viridian had given himself, it actually fit. That's what they got for letting a male green name itself. It gave itself a very unrealistic name. Still, he kind of liked the name, even if it didn't exactly fit.
Anyways, another egg was cracking open; the camouflaged looking one. The egg snapped open pretty quickly to reveal a green, but very male looking dragonet. A Viridian, then? Another Viridian, it seemed, with a yellow-green hide with yellow and green markings scattered across it in a camouflage manner, much like his egg. His eyes were shot with red, however, and he seemed very angry about the . . . eggs? He was sorting the eggs and burying the eggshells in the sand, obsessing over the eggs and trying to straighten them, it seemed, at least until Callistath swatted him away with her tail.
The Viridian looked furious about this, but Nyat's attention was captured by an egg cracking open to reveal a Black, who, unlike most blacks he'd seen, had purple-y patches on tail, though those were rather hard to notice against his dark hide as he, like his Viridian brother remained by the eggs, though not for long. Soon, the black was taking a few small steps forward. He seemed to be lost in his own world as he ambled forward.
Only two of Callistath's hatchlings remained on the Sands, but there were always the Hatchlings from Kalith's clutch; the female brown--no, the tan, and the Cyan. There were still chances to Impress. He wasn't going to let this get him down!
--
Yes, as she'd thought, the Gold had not been happy with the intrusions on her Sands, though she seemed to have missed the female browns. Maybe because they were quiet? Anyways, the Viridian had set her off, and she was throwing a tantrum again, kicking up at the sand, looking sullen and all around spoiled, until Callistath berated her Gold daughter.
With that, the Gold was headed towards the Candidates. For a moment, Rayna thought that she intended to Impress, but the moment the Gold moved for a redheaded Candidate with her claws, she realized exactly what the Gold intended. Rayna scooted back a bit, feeling selfish in her actions but not really interested in being mauled. If that meant someone else got mauled, well, she'd feel really bad, but being mauled would be very counterproductive to whatever she was going to do in life, especially if, as people tended to do, they were going to take her appearance into consideration.
The Gold raked at the Candidates, ripping into flesh with no rhyme or reason. She'd skip a Candidate or two, then randomly lash out at another, without seeming to have any particular reason for picking this Candidate or that one to maul her. The female brown, however, was following after the Gold, and Rayna was hard pressed to keep an eye on both of them so that neither could sneak up on her. Most of the Candidates with any lick of sense were backing up with her, trying to avoid being in the Gold's warpath.
The female brown had paused by the redheaded Candidate that had been the first to go down, but with what appeared to be a shrug, she was moving on, following behind the Gold Queen. The Candidate seemed to be skipping past more and more Candidates, simply staring before stalking past a Candidate every now and then. Her rage seemed to be ebbing.
But then the Gold whirled on another Candidate, looking more angry than before, stalking forward haughtily. Rayna edged back another step, as the Candidate was fairly close to where she was standing. If the Gold kept moving there was only a few Candidates (five or six, if Rayna was counting correctly) between her and the Gold's path of violence. Right then, Rayna wasn't sure whether moving back would anger the Gold more or save her from being mauled if push came to shove; probably the former. Her eyes followed the Gold's movements towards the girl before the female Candidate, but before anything could happen, the female brown moved like greased lightning between the Gold and the Candidate that she'd set her sights on, effectively stopping the Gold from mauling the Candidate. Rayna wasn't sure what had made her choose to stop the Gold from mauling that Candidate and not any of the others, though if she had to guess, she'd say that the female Brown was getting tired of all the blood or something?
The Gold backed off after that, moving through the girl Candidates, seeming to actually look through them instead of merely lashing at whoever caught her fancy. And then the Gold stopped. Right. In. Front. Of. Her.
Rayna's eyes widened, and it probably crossed her mind that it was a mistake, but that was proved wrong when the voice resounded in her mind, sounding highly full of itself and distinctly whiny. Everyone is soooo dumb, RaynaMine! You and your Couineth are way better than any of them! Waaay better, There was a pause, and then the dragonet before her went on, the feelings of hunger originating from the hatchling before her were broadcasted loud and clear, And I want food. Feed me noooowww! Couineth. Couineth. Her Couineth. She was beautiful. And she wanted food. "Of course, Couineth." She tried out the Gold's name with a beam. She'd Impressed! A dragonet had chosen her. With that thought, Rayna smiled delightedly, and led the Gold towards the buckets of meat that were provided for the new weyrlings. I want food nooooow! Couineth asserted in her mind, staring at all the dragonets who'd Impressed before her, stealing the spotlight that should have rightfully been hers. And besides which, one of them had probably taken the best bucket of meat. It wasn't fair. With an unhappy flounce, Couineth moved closer to Hers, eying the food. She should've gotten the best! How dare they try and take the meat that should've rightfully belonged to the only Queen of two clutches? Rayna reached for one of the buckets of meat, grabbing it with a grin, Don't worry. I'll get you the best food. It was meat. It wasn't all important. Besides, this was the best meat, fetched exactly with the Hatchlings in mind. Couineth stared at the meat for a moment before deciding it was worthy of her. She was hungry. Any food would be good, really. Not that she wouldn't complain about anyways. It's not the best, Couineth snapped sullenly, The best was taken by one of those new colors. They should've waited so I could've had a pick from all of the meat! Like the girl Candidates. They could've stopped being self-centered long enough to let her pick from all the female Candidates, instead of the ones that were left overs from all the hatchlings who'd beaten her out there. Rayna shook her head, offering the Gold her first bite of meat, followed by another and another. Couineth didn't nibble at them delicately, instead she ate them as quickly as she could so that none of those ugly new mutations could steal her meat. Her meat. Not theirs. She was so much better than them! They didn't belong there, stealing her spotlight when she'd been supposed to be in the spotlight all alone. Well, as long as she got food, she supposed it was . . . okay. Maybe. It better be the best food. All these stupid dragonets stealing her spotlight, her food, and her Candidates. They all should've been available to her. Grumbling mentally, the Gold ate. At least she wasn't one of those stupid new mutations. Everyone would always see her as Queen, no matter how may of those stupid things popped up and tried to steal her spotlight. The thought cheered her up quite a bit as she continued to feast upon the meat provided to her by Hers.[/blockquote]

I said the joker is a wanted man he makes his way all across the land see him sifting through the sand
So I'll tell you all the story 'bout the joker and the thief in the night
The Sands were getting rather boring, what with the more uninteresting beasts prowling about. Dramix yawned, finding himself fixed on the Cyan that was now fearlessly approaching the Gold egg. What was it with the stupid thing? Did everyone have to worship the big shining oval? Likely hating on the thing only because he knew he couldn't Impress to the creature inside it, he was not letting up on the mental insults. Sharding sparkle-faerie.
But the Queen egg was hatching with or without his blessings. The shells gave way to reveal, quite predictably, a Gold. Just like the mother. Dramix shook his head slightly and looked just as disapproving as usual. She had the air of a dragon that knew she'd be Queen someday and it was sickening to look at. Diverting his eyes back to the Cyan, he was able to catch the Gold's disrespect and the Cyan's reaction. Now things were getting pretty interesting again.
There was a standoff, finally, and it was actually bringing a small smirk to the boy's face. Who'd back down first? He put his money on the Cyan, only because she was much smaller, but he had to admire her spunk. She wasn't going to let some prissy faerie queen boss her around just because her colors didn't match. It was a shame the Gold would probably win this though. Dramix wanted her to lose--screw improbability. He wanted to see the big bad get put away by the little dragon that could. It reminded him of someone he wouldn't dare speak of.
The standoff lasted long enough for the suspense to mature into something respectable. It didn't appear as if the Cyan was going to let the Gold intimidate her so easily. Out of all the smaller colors, so far the Cyans seemed to have it right. None of them were too loud or too stupid. None of them presented any detestable personalities so far. The Pinks were the worst, the Greens were in close second, and the Blues were either tolerable or just as intolerable as their sisters. Blacks now...he wasn't sure. He had seen one so far and compared to Wormtail they were cowards. Dramix didn't hate cowards as much as he seemed to show it, but he didn't want to Impress one. He had enough to deal with on his own. What he needed was something that complimented him. Something that would strike the same amount of fear into others as he did. He wanted a dragon that wouldn't step down just because the enemy was larger or more powerful. Fearless was the key word. That Cyan's temperament in a larger dragon's body would have been perfect.
Just as predicted, the stare-off was over the moment the young Gold grew bored of all the standing around. She swept at the Cyan, who ducked and ran off looking peeved, and almost seemed to smirk at the work she had done. Oh, how perfectly pompous. Dramix didn't have enough room for such an egotistical giant. Once again he tried to come up with many reasons why he should be grateful that he couldn't Impress the Gold. Glaring at the young Queen on the Sands, Dramix only hoped that such a stupid hulk would Impress to someone just as stupid. Then he'd teach his dragon how to deal with stuck-up morons like them.
Your Ressouth had to pick you, D'ixMine!
Had to...who the hell was talking to him now? What'd they call him? He turned sharply, though the voice didn't seem to come from any particular direction it simply had to have been from out of his sight. Only a coward would sneak up o--
Only the best, and only I could find you! So whatever. She doesn't matter.
D'ix was simply staring, fixed on this dragon that was too close for comfort. His expression was a wary one, as if he were some sort of bear being flashed a fish by a tall woodsman. The laughing didn't help this creature's cause, sending a shiver up his spine. Not because she made him uneasy, but because the sound of laughter coming from nowhere was disturbing. He recognized her as the dragon he had fancied for her personality; the Cyan on the Sands. She was talking to him and laughing to him, though he didn't see her mouth moving at all. It's probably that telepathy crap they were going over in class. So that would mean he had Impressed. He found himself craning his neck slightly to stare at the Gold at the corner of his eye. No, she didn't matter. She could between for all he cared. Such a useless waste of a hide.
But he Impressed.
Come on; lets eat! Forget her! You got me and I got you. I doubt that anyone could stop us. Ha! I'd like to see them try! Ressouth added, slapping her tail down upon the Sand to add an extra oomph to her words. She also added a rather talented impression of a villainous laugh, but ended it abruptly to half circle the boy she had chosen once. He was perfect to her. All the other people here were too complicated--to the point that they had been diluted. Soggy like cereal that's been left in the milk for too long. Her D'ix was still crispy and filled with the most punch. She could definitely break some doors down with a human like him.
D'ix was still stuck where he was, feeling a plethora of strange feelings he had never experienced all at once. It all amounted to shock and perhaps just a little awe, sprinkled with a sense of closure and then topped over with indecision. Should he accept this creature? It was weird. She was weird. A little obnoxious too. He didn't expect her to be. She didn't look like she would have been, but then again when she was out there he couldn't hear her voice in his head. It was loud and abrasive, and the more he thought about it the more he found himself disliking Ressouth. He wasn't used to being approached with such a familiarity. The whole moment was foreign altogether. D'ix was starting to regret his coming out here. He got himself into a mess he didn't expect! No one warned him! No one told him he'd be standing here, letting fate tie him to some strange psychic creature that he couldn't just discard without feeling a little sick inside. He was considering it! He wanted to lose this Cyan at once, but he had at the same time this curiosity to see what it was like not to. His external gruffness returned, which gave Ressouth the incentive to grin and start strutting beside him like she didn't give a damn about what anyone thought of her. Maybe she wouldn't take it so hard when D'ix asked for some space. He felt like he had been in a relationship for months and needed 'some time alone'.
"So what does this mean?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at her as he turned to follow her out. He had forgotten what was left of the Hatching completely. He wouldn't have gone back to try and Impress another if someone forced him. This one was weird enough. D'ix was getting irritable just thinking about it.
Ressouth suddenly spun round to face her human, ducking her head a bit as if she were curtsying. It means all you ever wanted, of course! To be respected! To be feared! To be invincible! We can't go wrong, you know. You're the best one out here and to tell the truth, I am too, she said with a wink. I'd like to see her top that! She nudged her head in the Gold's direction before huffing and turning once more to press onward. Better get to the food before that big fat Gold eats it all up! I bet she would!
He let her go a few feet without him before D'ix found himself following her. Damn her voice was obnoxious. He'd have to tell her to keep it down a little. He admired her spirit but at the same time it made his eyes twitch involuntarily. Perhaps it was that voice. Her attitude was also very feminine...she reminded him of a spiteful girl that made fun of other girls behind their backs and sometimes even just loud enough for the other girls to hear. Oh Faranth he hoped that was not what he was sentenced to deal with for the rest of his life. How does one fire a dragon? He'd have to ask in the next class.
Then, like a public service announcement, another intruding voice popped into his head.
I am a viridian. Not a green, I repeat, a viridian. V-I-R-I-D-I-A-N. I would appreciate it to be referred to as such.
Both D'ix and Ressouth turned their heads towards the 'Viridian' on the Sands.
"He's Green," D'ix concluded, brows knit in annoyance.
He's a showoff is what he is, Ressouth complained. Viridians probably think they're cool because they're new on the scene. Let him enjoy it; I bet a million of them will have hatched by the end of the Interval. She gave a mean little chuckle before she and her human turned back to head for the food.
"You know, minus the sound of your voice, you're not half bad," D'ix admit. He then reached the buckets before Ressouth could, as the Cyan slowed down and tilted her head at the opinion her human had of her.
There's only so much I can do about that!
Can you see the joker flying over as she's standing in a field of clover watching out everyday I wonder what would happen if he took her away OoC: BTW Thank you Nia I LOVE HER!!!!!111!! *frsrs*

Medusa found herself watching with wide eyes, forcing herself to concentrate. To lose her concentration meant to go back - back into the memories, even as they replaced themselves with good things: her life now to her life then. But she would rather not go through it, and forced herself to stay alert - to stay with what was going on.
Loto's words and nudge (ignoring her own habitual flinch at being hit - still hadn't fully gotten over that) caused her to look to the gold egg. Almond-shaped eyes blinked, and she had to giggle as Loto jumped behind her. Couldn't really protect the other girl from the goings on. Temper-tantrum from the gold caused her to shake. Scary getting in the way of such a creature when it was angry. The quieter hatchings caught her attention again - she wasn't interested in the gold, for all she made herself the center of attention: personality reminded her too much of Agrius - me!me!me!me! all the time, and cruel.
Dusky pink caused her to smile - especially when there became two. They were adorable, the two unknowns, going about their way calmly. Bright green took her eyes from the two that near blended in with the sand. Big and bright and green. Duh. Still she watched as it moved unerringly to the males, Impressing.
That watching was her downfall: she didn't pay attention to the gold. And paid for it. One moment she was staring at the gold. The next she was on the ground, bleeding. The smallest of whimpers was pulled from her throat - would have been nothing, if for one thing. Bone.
Papa had hated it when she whimpered or cried. So she didn't. She wouldn't. But only once had he cut her so deep that he exposed bone to air. Her one scar - her back. And that time she had been beaten so bad she had gone unconcious. So now, now that she felt the pain of air on bone! Faranth! But still there was only the whimper. Just one whimper, no more. No rocking, no keening, no movement or sound but that one soft whimper, and the automatic rush of sand-burnt hands to cover bleeding flesh.
She didn't even notice the other hatchlings, concentrating on keeping the pain in - and refusing to submit to the memories that attempted to swamp her.
--
Lesa stared first in wonder. Then annoyance: if the gold dragonet had been a feline, she would have had her nose whapped. Bad! No carrying on like that. She sighed, looking at Tieler and shaking her head. Pity the gold was so... childish. Yes, the gold was a child, fresh from the shell - but there was being young, and there was being a brat. The gold was being a brat. Ugh.
The Harper looked again in awe as the pinky-brown hatched. What color could it be? Reminded her of the roses her Ma planted in their small quarter-courtyard, a dusky, near brown color - like the dragonets. Dusky rose. It would work, until an official name was given. The dusky rose was cute, she admitted, and nice and quiet. Then... a second dusky rose! Well! She blinked again, and glanced to Tieler. What a chance, to be at a Hatching with a new color! Blonde hair flowed around her as she turned her head again, catching sight of an... impossibly large green. Woah. Now, that was different.
And, she realized quickly, male. Heh. No real chance for that one, male and that large. Impossibly bright fellow... and going to one she had heard about while here, and at Hall. Belor, a Holderbrat. Joy - all she had heard said that he was an insufferable prig who wanted everything he could have: rank was everything to him. And here he was with the first Viridian. Oh, he was going to be fun to deal with, she was sure. She was beginning to pity the Weyrlingmaster, dealing with this group.
At least Dixie had gotten a Cyan - sure, that Cyan had been the bossy bully Cyan, but still - Cyans had drive. Perhaps a dragonet would drive would be good for him: let him get to that potential she could feel he had. Whoa! Lesa was jerked from her thoughts by screams. What?! Blood. Blood on the sands - and a rampaging gold. Oh, Faranth.
Somehow she wasn't surprised that the female went straight for Tieler. She'd called her friend a dragonet-magnet for a good reason. Still, would've preferred it not be for something like this. She dropped to her knees beside Tieler, adding her hands on top of the girl's. "Shards, Tieler," she said softly, "It's gonna be okay - they don't look that bad - just hold on." The Harper leaned her head away from her friend and breathed deeply, calling on her training. "C'fael!" It was a yell loud enough to rival any scream that had come across the sand. She didn't say it - but the message was clear in the one word. GET YOUR ARSE DOWN HERE NOW, HEALERBOY!
--
C'fael leapt to his feet at the gold beginning to maul. "Shards," he swore, looking to B'nyur, "And it'd been going so well." Nimble fingers grabbed up his kit, and he took two steps to Oveth, before freezing. "Faranth," he swore again, and swung back to B'nyur. "Not life threatening... I gotta check with Fajra and Avalle." The young man sighed, walking to the edge of the ledge.
"Permission to come on the Sands, Weyrwoman?" He asked politely, sighing at the delay. Girls were bleeding - he had to go help them! A wince as he heard Lesa's yell. "Harper has lungs on her," teeth flashed in a grin as he called back to B'nyur, smiling grimly. Gallows humor - yes, no one died. But still...

The Queen hatched. The new colors hatched. It was all very exciting, and a sense of wonder filled Xela, but there was nothing for her to say that hadn't already been said. The Queen. Unlike most girl Candidates, Xela willed her to stay far, far away from her. She didn't want to ride any sissy Queen. She didn't want to spend the rest of her life watching eggs sit on Sands and catering to the needs of the rich and powerful of Pern. She didn't want to be stuck in a lowly Queen's wing aimed with only a flimsy firethrower. No, not her! She wanted to fight, be the best, not let a single strand of Thread get by her! She wanted to be on the back of a zippy little dragon, darting this way and that, in the thick of the action!
Then, while everyone else was fawning over the newly hatched Gold, and Xela was doing all she could to repulse her, all hell broke loose. The Gold went on a rampage, striking down at least half of the remaining female Candidates. Xela knew better than to get in her way, and she was light on her feet, jumping out of her way. She'd rather not get mauled, thanks. The chaos ended only when one of the new, big light brownish dragons (Xela thought they had been very oddly colored Oranges at first) jumped in front of Samael. Finally, the Gold Impressed to Rayna. Xela rolled her eyes. Awesome. A brat of a Queen to a brat of a girl (she hadn't forgiven her for the 'pipsqueak' comment yet).
However, Xela did have another score to settle. She had been lucky and quick enough to be one of the few to evade the Gold's attacks. She sauntered confidently over to where Tieler was lying on the ground. "Oh, wow, looks like you're the one who ended up as dragon food, huh?" Xela said, clucking with fake sympathy. She paused for a minute before dropping to her knees and tearing a foot of fabric off of her robe (it was far too long, anyways). She pressed the white fabric to Tieler's cuts, trying to help a little bit before the Healers came down. She was strange like that. She didn't like unsettled scores, but she didn't like people to suffer for no reason. The Gold had shown quite clearly that Xela was the one readiest to Stand, not Tieler. And now that that was clear, she was going to help Tieler. Hopefully the redhead would have come to her sense by now.
----
"Tans? Viridians? In each of the clutches? Goodness, what did they put in the water?" B'nyur said light-heartedly, happy to see the new mutations. Each of them brought something new to Dalibor. The Cyans had already proven themselves as highly valuable parts of the Weyr. One of them, young as she and her 'rider were, were already Wingseconds of the Sr. Weyrleader's wing!
However, there was no time for C'fael to respond before the Gold went on a rampage. Immediately, B'nyur was on his feet, and he put a steadying hand on C'fael's shoulder. The gesture proved unneeded a second later, as the Brownrider remembered to wait. B'nyur scanned the Sands, but while the females the Gold had mauled all had to be in serious pain, none of them looked in danger for their lives. He mounted Oveth nonetheless and gestured for the Brownrider to get up behind him. "Indeed she does! We're gonna need more than one Healer for this mess," he said, waiting keenly for Kalith's or Callistath's permission.
Oveth was poised to jump off the ledge, but B'nyur kept him waiting. He did not know Callistath well, but he touched Kalith's mind, ever so gently, to get her attention. He knew that was all the asking she would need. They waited.
---
L'ven was appalled by the behavior of the young Gold, and while Valleth was not so disgusted, he was a little shocked. Callistath was the only Gold he ever knew, and he was so used to her wonderful, lady-like manner that anything else was foreign. {She's young yet, hopefully she'll grow out of it,} L'ven said. Hopefully, but Hers is going to have a tough time controlling her...
Valleth mused. Mine, come with me Valleth said, while he flew over to where the newest Weyrlings were feeding their dragons. His Gold daughter might be a brat, but she was still a Queen, and he was still proud of siring her. Besides, with so many now, they needed supervision. No one was watching the new Weyrlings feed their dragons, and someone had to tell them not to stuff their dragonets full of food. Valleth settled next to them. Only eat until you are just satisfied, Valleth instructed them, lowering his head to meet their level. It was unbelievable, that the eggs he had watched for so long were now itty bitty little dragonets. As soon as you feel full, stop, he added, eyes whirling happily. "Don't let them gorge themselves. Otherwise you'll be cleaning up dragon puke all night, and I know that's not how you want to spend your first night as Dragonriders!" L'ven added to the Weyrling's human halves. "Especially you, miss," he said to Rayna, whose Couineth was doing her best to eat every single bit of meat there was.

So here she was, in a debilitating position, and at least thankful that her friends were with her. Friends meaning Lesa and Eclipse of course, and when Lesa dropped down to the sands beside her she wished the blond didn’t have to have her attention diverted from the hatching. Just great, there was nothing Tieler hated more than vulnerability. It was deserved for the lame and... Well, children. But even children should have tough skins, so says Tieler! “I’m fine, really! Honest Lesa. It doesn’t look bad because it’s not.” She winced, and seemed very frantic when Lesa put her hands over her own to try and slow the bleeding. She was getting bloody too, gross! She took her blood-covered hand off of her wound, and leaned back, her arms extended behind her for support. She didn’t want to see pity in Lesa’s eyes, so she acted as if her friend wasn’t there; forcing herself to keep her eyes on the remaining Tan dragonet, and newly-hatched Black. Now that her head was lifted, she didn’t dare put it back down weakly. The new mutations were quite a sight, quite a sight indeed! She didn’t bother acknowledging the other Viridian, it was acting mad. Oh how appropriate it’d be if it went to Loto.
She continued on doing the whole “no pain, no game” act, and then Xela came bounding up. Now, at first when she made the jibe about being dragon food, she had a vision of dragging Xela down to land flat on her butt. Though having Eclipse attack her would be much easier. As if sensing her unease, Eclipse dove at Xela, making sure to come just shy of her head. He only wanted to scare her. Tieler snarled at the girl, ”There’s still plenty of dragonet’s still to hatch, you’re just asking for it.” Really she was referring to her communicating with them to maul the girl, but Xela wouldn’t comprehend this.
Tieler would not even begin to give her the satisfaction of letting her think she’d won, in any sense of the word. Tieler still had plenty of fire left in her, for years to come, and she wouldn’t mind lashing out at this girl on a later date if she kept it up. But then Xela was ripping a piece of fabric from her robe, and attempting to help out, and Tieler merely sighed. Great, how could she attack her now? Generally she made a rule of not attacking people who were trying to make things easier for her.
Eclipse calmed down once he saw that Xela was helping His, and perched himself on the young girl’s shoulder. He crooned his thanks to her, feeling that Tieler’s emotions had calmed. He put his face to her cheek gently as a means of apologizing. Well, apparently he’d done a good job, someone was caring for His! He chirruped triumphantly, glancing from Lesa, to Tieler, and then finally Xela.

Just like that, all the amusement or respect or interest or anything that she had for the Queen was thrown out the window and replaced with fear. Intense, heart-pounding fear. There came the violence... She swallowed hard against the lump in her throat, wincing at each outburst. The gold was moving down the line of girls, making it a veritable warpath, slashing at everyone in her way. She was getting closer. It was ridiculous! She was such a brat! Why did she have to do this?! None of them were doing anything! Wait... Dragons could... touch your mind, right? As the seething gold settled in front of her, it hit her. She hadn't exactly been thinking kindly of the Queen... Ohshards ohshards ohshards. Her stomach squirmed.
But then she was... saved? Her stomach was still tied in knots and her heart was still threatening to break her ribs, but the gold tossed her head, huffed, and headed off. Instead, there was one of the she-browns standing in front of her. She had knocked the gold out of the way! That wasn't smart. Nervous, she glanced at the gold, but she wasn't coming back to hurt the she-brown. That was good. She wouldn't want the kind thing to get the world of pain that had been coming in her stead. She really ought to thank--
Naireth will let no harm come to you, SamaelMine. She will not be allowed to hurt you. But we must listen to her.
WHAT. She'd Impressed? Well, why else would the pinkbrown have saved her? Immediately all she felt like doing was crying. She was all choked up, and was about to say something when there was an interruption from Callistath. Tan... Her Tan Naireth. Hers. Her dragon. A dragon which, by the way, was staring rather fixedly at Samael, nice and proper and waiting patiently.
Samael stared back.
"Do... do you want food? I'm supposed to feed you, right, Naireth?" she choked out, tears welling up in her eyes. She wiped them away. You're such a baby, Sam.
Naireth took a few moments to mull that over. I am hungry, yes, SamaelMine. She peered down at her stomach, as if she was a little unsure of that... but then she looked right back up as Samael, who reached out to touch her, just to make sure she was real. The fact that the gold had went and Impressed definitely didn't register because, frankly, Sam didn't care. She just cared about Naireth. Feeling Naireth's hide beneath her fingers, she smiled. Yep. Real. Wow. And wasn't Naireth a subqueen, then? She was a female, and she was big, but she wasn't shiny. Huh. However did Sam manage that?
Well, c'mon then, Nai, Samael said, testing out the mindlink and a nickname.
Naireth hesitated. Who is Nai?
You are, silly!
...But my name is Naireth.
Having gotten up to leave, Samael paused and turned to look at the tan. Oh... alright. C'mon, then, Naireth, we'll get food.
Yes, SamaelMine. Naireth said, obediently trotting after Hers. When they arrived at the food buckets, Sam sidled up next to Belphegor and Chistesth and grabbed a bucket of meat for Naireth - the bucket farthest away from Couineth. Naireth didn't seem to care or notice the gold's presence. Handing a piece of meat to the tan dragonet, Sam said, Eat up, kiddo!
To which Naireth replied obediently, Yes, SamaelMine. [/blockquote]

C'fael nodded, swinging up behind B'nyur - certainly easier to get on the smaller Oveth than on his Ansyth! The brown grumbled at the comment, but knew it was true - he was large. But he was a brown, he was supposed to be large! The blond shook his head as much in laughter at his dragon than in pity at the plight of those below them. "This is going to be a mess... so many of them, and still so many still to hatch, we're going to have to leave them. Can we give them anything? Or just numbweed, since we don't want their minds away in case their dragonet hatches?" These were probably things C'fael should have asked before, but he hadn't expected a problem of quite this magnitude to occur.
Gray eyes swept the sands and he was forced to stifle a laugh, lips twitching. Lesa was at it again, giving what-for to a girl who had come to help her. Ah, that one. She'd always be his 'little' sister, even if she was just barely older than him - twelve sevendays. He knew that rankled her, but it was too good not to use, and so true, either way.
--
Lesa merely rolled her eyes at Tieler's statement, shifting her position until Tieler's leg was lying in her lap, made easier as Tieler pulled her arms away. The leg in her lap let her put her whole upper body weight on the limb: more pressure meant less bloodflow. "Yeah, I meant not bad as in they won't be too scarring and she missed all arteries and bone, so you aren't going to bleed out or have to worry about infection on the bone." The Harper snapped, teeth clenched as she shoved downward. "Good that you're lying down - but lie all the way down. Keeps your leg higher than your heart, will slow the bleeding, and I've got no way to revive you if you faint on me - then you'd miss all chances of Impressing."
Her head shot up at the additional voice, and she used her left upper arm to shove her hair back, away from the wound and her eyes so she could better see. Bad move, as Xela shortly swooped in with her robes. Lesa hissed, the expression of dislike more akin to felines than humans rising from her naturally - blame Halbert for that one, one of the quickest things he responded to when he did wrong. "Are you crazy?" She ripped the cloth off the wounds, returning her free hand to join her right, which had never left the wounds. "Thank you for trying to help, but no! No matter how clean you claim your robes are, they have dust and dirt and are fibrous - don't want fibers in the wounds, do you know how easily that can lead to infection?!" A snarl and flash of eyes behind spectacles before Lesa returned to her work, grimly pressing down hard. Slowly - too slowly for her liking, the skin around the wounds was whitening, losing bloodflow. Good, for the moment. "If you really want to help with that, tie it around her leg above the wounds - tourquinets aren't the best things, but if it's not on for too long it'll at least help slow the bleeding. Unless you're just here to gloat that you didn't get hurt - if you are, then leave." Sure, Lesa was a bit gruff: certainly gruffer than she was normally. But it was the little bit of Healer!Lesa coming out to play. Had to happen, considering the situation.

She wakes up scared of getting old, She don't feel no shame, She know's so many pretty boys, And they are all the same.
Sonia remained where she was, stock still, and the hatching continued on around her, as she expected. It was boring, perhaps, but she remained on her toes, unaffected by that niggling emotion. The cyans were interesting, she supposed, as she'd never seen one up close before, the color not found in flitters at that time, but she felt dull standing there, listless. Her firelizards were excited, but they were not in control of her. Faranth help her, she did not have to be hopeful if she didn't want to be! She would not be disappointed. She would not be crushed. The sands burned at her feet, but she dug her heels in stoutly, expression never changing but thoughts whirling. She hated this, living in his Weyr, trying to figure out expectations. Too many turns, it has been too many turns. Not that it mattered, she'd keep on going, stubborn as ever.
SoniaMine, your Aimeth . . . There was a voice in her head. It came suddenly, surprising her, making her chin jerk up. It wasn't a picture or a feeling. It was a voice, so much stronger than any she had heard before. A green had stopped in front of her, a green with a pale hide and a splotch on her head. Aimeth. The dragonet tried again, speaking once more to the tiny, staring, motionless candidate. SoniaMine, can you love your Aimeth? It was an odd thing for her to say, really, it was. Though she hadn't noticed it before, Sonia quickly picked up on the fact that this green, her Aimeth, had sassed the gold. She had noticed the bratty Queen, but she hadn't noticed that. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. Sonia frowned vaguely. Their meeting wasn't emotional, but there it was. The thing that Aimeth could not feel, stretching between them.
Yes, I love you; Sonia said, the oddest smile brightening her features as she straightened. Her flitters crowed their delight, but attempts to descend were met with a will of steel. No scenes. Just her and Aimeth. The green cocked her head in confusion, not sure what to do by that point. No one to fight, no one to bother, what was she supposed to do? This was love, this thing rolling off her rider, but there were other things. She liked those things better than the love. That was just a fix for a hole and once it was filled, she was good to go. Her rider tilted her head as well, regarding the hatchling in front of her with surprisingly soft eyes. In that moment, she was open and she used that time to process what was in front of her. The love she was felt was absolute, but it was changeable, adaptable, and made by her. Perfect. She'd Impressed. Her Aimeth.
Someone called out. Sonia turned with a start. Aimeth shifted to look as well, expression brightening and tail beginning to lash behind her with interest. Who was this? Tieler. The tiny now weyrling easily identified the other girl and hurriedly turned away, focusing her eyes down. Her dragon, on the other hand, was quite content to stare over at the odd girl, hunkering low over the sand with dominance in her eyes. Of course, Sonia quickly put a stop to that. Time for food; she chided like an irritable den mother. She did not want attention, not even with a dragon by her side. Up popped Aimeth, staring at her rider in surprise, following after her when she began to shuffle off the sands. That was an interesting walk. Hers could move much more fluidly than that, but she chose not to do that. Interesting. That was what Aimeth liked about hers.
At the meat, the weyrling quickly shoved a bowl under the green's nose. She got to eating without delay, seeing no point in wasting time with such a menial task. Sonia eyed her eating dragon quietly, crossing her arms in front of her chest. She was a keeping quiet. That was best. She had yet to figure out what she was going to do with being a weyrling. That was the problem with not hoping. I bet you can love. It was an odd statement, but they were an odd pair. She had picked up on that, Aimeth's inability to feel love. Everything else was there in the swirling of their Impression, but not love. Raising her head slowly from her food, the green blinked up at her rider, licking blood off her muzzle. It must have been frustrating, staring at them. Both of them had strength with how they dealt with each other, but their emotions remained primitive.
No, I can't; Aimeth said, sounding quite sure. She really couldn't. While it did dishearten her slightly, it wasn't truly a bad thing. She was arguably psychopathic, unable to feel anything towards others aside from her rider, but she felt no great urge to begin amoral conduct. Staring blankly across at her rider, she was somewhat put off by the fact her obstinate sass did not apparently bother Sonia. Of course, she really should have expected it. That was what she had wanted. However, to be faced with it, a glint in her rider's eye, was another thing entirely. She shifted back from her food slightly, ready for an argument. This was going to be fun. She wasn't going to lie in order to agree with anyone. That was pure folly. She couldn't feel love and she was more than happy to make that clear. Her tail swished a warning as her interest grew.
Can too; was Sonia's retort. She substituted physically sticking out her tongue with a mental picture of the same, leaving her expression composed and managing picture thoughts quite easily thanks to her flitters. In fact, there they came, effectively putting an end to the argument. Eulo, Ruy, Jary, and Zola settled themselves on Sonia, radiating joy. Olya, Esti, and Ife landed upon Aimeth, cheerful greeting her. The green dragonet blinked in surprise, distracted by this surprise. Little cousins and lots of them, full of love. Esti crooned sweetly to her bonded's new friend, sneaking forward to offer friendship to this creature who made theirs so secretly happy. Bored and tired of being bossed around, Eulo whacked Sonia in the back of the head, earning a scolding. Aimeth, returning to her food, instantly decided that the gold was the best.
On the sands, a broody Kalith was less than sympathetic to the plight of some of the candidates. She was quite possibly going to kill her granddaughter later on, but she didn't care that the gold had mauled their whiny bums. In fact, she was considering eating the one with the annoying flitter herself! She offered C'fael only a glower, daring him to come closer. Her sands. Hers. Not the whiny candidates. Don't. We have more important things to deal with; Fajra told her, eying the new tan, lips pursed. Callistath had done them the honor of naming them, though one had come out of each clutch. Another viridian had popped up too. What were they going to do with these new oddities? The Weyr had enough issues as it was. It seemed unlike that these tans or viridians would magically be able to figure out what was lurking in the lake.
That girl's a genius, Whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh, I think she's serious, Whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh.

Already her heart had hiccuped into her throat and sunk back down to her stomach, with all the pull of a gravid rock. The vicious but quick sound of claw on flesh made Loto wince away, raising up one arm over her face as though that very human gesture would protect her from the raging and angry newly-hatched Queen. All she could hear was the thundering of her pulse
The sands had been marred and darkened by blood and water; tears, Loto realized, of which were not her own. Loto was standing in the middle of a bloodbath; the streaks of blood on the sands twisted in her gut and her mind, reminding her of the red above the river who had betweened when she had first set foot into Dalibor. Her eyes were on the bronzed sands, not entirely notcing the retreat of the Gold's menacing shadow.
The coppery smell of blood became familiar, causing her to numbly lower her arm to swallow the scene closer to her feet; the huff of the new Queen and the girl she'd Impressed- Rayna- was lost to her at the sight closest to her heels. Medusa was hurt, bleeding, and soundless. Wasn't it worse when they didn't make any sound at all? S'fa-papa had always said that... that...
Onipa'a. Be steadfast. The word and the phrase had ingrained itself into her, and it was instinctively that she knelt by the smaller Candidate; she was no dragon, but she still squatted by Medusa with a certain arch to her back that couldn't help but make the girl look almost protective. So she was, running a soothing hand over Medusa's back. She didn't know anything about healing at all, though her brown eyes moved fleetingly over towards where C'fael and B'nyur were.
"Taa..." The sound was as much soothing affirmation as the girl could muster, letting her hand stop over Medusa's back for a moment to be a simple, comforting pressure. "It's okay to cry, y'know?" She passed a look that didn't really mask Loto's worry at the sight of all that blood. She might have seemed brave were she not shaking both in body and vocal tone, but she still hadn't run screaming out of the sands.
Unable to really look at Medusa's wound, she kept her attention out on the sands to defend her room mate if that's what she needed to do. She swallowed harshly, though whether or not it was to swallow her fear or to swallow the vomit that was pooling in the back of her throat was anyone's guess. She knelt shaking pitifully like a leaf, but she was still there, and that was more than most would have expected of her.
She turned her head to regard the sight of Lesa and Tieler, as well as the girl who she didn't know crowding over them. She saw her ripping her robe to help stop the bleeding, and did not imitate her. She looked almost sheepishly back at Medusa before putting her height and heft to some use. She had brawn, even if she didn't always have brain. She used this to her advantage.
She supported Medusa under her arm first, sweeping the other Candidate up bridal-style in a manner that looked entirely effortless; though the long huff of air she gave afterward hinted that lifting another human being might not have been that easy. She rocked on her heels, backtracking several slow and careful steps so that she was standing sympathetically close to the bleeding and lonely Katheryne.
She was awkwardly silent, awkwardly still, until that word came up and out of her mouth again. "Onipa'a." It would have been out of character not to grin, and what had been almost bizarrely sober for her softened into something a little more gentle. It was a power word for her, and maybe it could be a power word to the likes of anyone else who heard it. "It means to be steadfast." It was like she was trying to make conversation amongst the female candidates who would listen.
