The small black Wher charged his way out of the Weyrbowl and around, through the corridor to the lake. His handler followed behind, towel in hand and something of an exasperated expression on her face. Not catch! Kire no wash Kisk. Kisk bugled excitedly as he ran towards the shore of the lake. He held his tail in the air and gurgled as Kire finally caught up to him. No! You have to have a wash. We just need to get some oil now.
Kire lunged at Kisk to catch him but he jumped out of the way with a Wher giggle and then darted away from her, launching himself into the lake. He splashed about for a moment before Kire finally managed to grab him. He was bigger than he had been and it was tough to keep a hold of the wriggling ball of wher. She held him in her hands and eventually slipped in the mud, falling over in the water, letting go of Kisk. Kire fall! Kisk sorry!
Lucky it was a warm night or else she might just have been extremely annoyed with the little black. As it happened she laughed and splashed water at the black and then grabbed him once more. He wriggled and waggled his whole body, trying to escape her grasp. She laughed at him and tickled his hide. Thankfully it was still just soft enough that it still worked. Kisk just about giggled until he finally got out of her arms.
What had supposed to be bath and oiling night had turned into bath, run and swim night. She would try to finish cleaning him but it had turned into something of a game now. She kept trying to grab the Wher but each time he jumped away from her with a gurgled giggle. “Kiiiissskkk!!” She whined to him.
Kisk giggled again and then ran around her in a circle. Kisk smell! Kisk smell Kisks!! Only one but Kisk smell. Kire took some solace in the fact that the wher he smelled was probably one handled by the Weyr not a wild pack. Lucky!

Nisk fast! Nisk Run! Nikan not fast! The wher was just as hyper as ever as she danced around the bowl with Hers close at her heels. Her young heart pounded in her chest as she ran, occasionally looking over her shoulder at Hers. Nikan laughed and tripped a few times as he trotted after Nisk. Nikan was panting, then again, so was Nisk. The young green was showing no signs of slowing though. Nikan knew he couldn’t keep up with his green for much longer, so he slowed to a walk and laughed as he watched the Green start to curve her direction and do a circle around the walking handler. Nisk circle! Nisk SMART! The wher slowed and then stopped with her tongue hanging out of her maw. Her muscles twitched with the adrenaline of the run, but her eyes only swirled with smooth, soft colors of contentment. ”You feel better?” Nikan knelt down to the ground and rubbed Nisk’s shoulder. The green crooned and rubbed her face on the shirt of Hers. Hot. Nisk hot…HAPPY TOO! The green almost warbled, but then her eyes caught sight of something behind Nikan’s shoulder. Her neck craned and she wiggled away from the grasps of Hers. A growl escaped her throat, but before it ended, it had changed into a whine and her butt began to wiggle happily. BLACK! BLACK! HIII! without saying anything to her own handler, she charged towards the lake where she saw the black now sniffing around. She let out crooning warbles of excitement as she ran, uselessly flapping her stubby wings in her excitement. ”Nis-?” Nikan yelped just as the green shoved past him and started running towards the other wher. The fact was, he could just barely see the other where she was running towards. He could see its handler, but a black wher at night…well, that was a creature hard to see. Now Nisk almost was glowing in the night, her hide was so bright already, which made following her easy.
Nisk charged up to the black and immediately rolled onto her back with a play growl. NISK HAPPY TO SEE! Name you? Nisk is Nisk! Nikan not fast! Nisk too fast for NikanMine! Nisk’s body wiggled happily, her body pushed the soil up around her as she did so. Nikan walked up quickly, almost trotting. ”HEY! Sorry! Nisk is happy! OH! Your…your….your…” He stopped to think to himself. ”KIRE!” He said happily. He remembered her name from the lessons, if just barely.

The water lapped against Kisk’s hide as he stood there watching for any sign of the smell. He stood there rather alert and eventually gave up turning to look at Kire, waggling his spindly body. He skipped around in a circle again and turned, seeing a green wher running down the bank. Kire also spotted the green wher and smiled. She recognised the wher as the one who had, unfortunately, fallen over during their running races! She remembered because there were only a couple of greens in the Wherling class.
Green!! Not SisterGreen but still Green!! He called back with excitement. He remembered that he had a green sister and a blue brother but there were other greens he remembered from the sands. This one had hatched around the same time as he had... But he had hatched first! He seemed to swell with pride at the memory. Even though he had taken a while to find BestKireKiskLove he had still hatched first!
Kisk ran to meet the other Wher with excitement but seemed to get a little distracted and turned to bound back to the water, take a flying leap, and splash Kire. She looked at him, frowning a little but she could never, ever be angry with him. He was simply too great. She got to her feet, doing her best to dry off a little and waved a greeting to the Wherling making his way towards them. Kisk splashed about in the water and finally seemed to re-notice the green and run out to meet her.
What talk? Kisk Kisk!! Kire not fast catch me. He seemed to giggle again at that and literally rolled about on the ground. He jumped to his feet once again and ran to pounce on the green as she rolled onto her back. He bugled again and then turned back to Kire, waggling his tail. Kisk am winning! Kisk am the greatest!!
Kire smiled, having finally remembered the other Wherling’s name with some help from Kisk. “Hi Nikan! Are you out for a swim too then?” She asked in something of a resigned fashion. She’d just officially decided that they would be better off pretending they were going for a swim as opposed to actually maintaining the ruse of giving him a bath. Apparently, attempting to give him a bath had completely failed so she supposed this was second best.
