Well… Shirath was certainly interesting to say the least. C’ian pursed his lips as he stood ankle deep in mud. The Purple stood a little way off, head tilted to one side and surveying him as though he was insane. Maybe he was! Either way… Shirath didn’t seem keen to play his games. But… C’ianMine. I do not understand. There are no beautiful maidens to save… There’s no one there! You said we would save beautiful maidens. “It’s a game Shirath! You use your imagination and make things up. It’s fun, trust me!” C’ian called back to the Purple. Shirath looked at the mud with distaste and then back at His. Perhaps there was something wrong with his Human’s mind. It would not be the first time he’d questioned the mind of His. Then again, he definitely liked the distracted thoughts. Everything stayed interesting with C’ianHis. He walked forward a little but backed up when he felt the mud between his feet. What is imagination though.
C’ian stopped and stared at the Purple for a moment. It’s where you pretend something is happening! And right now beautiful Dragons are in trouble! We have to save them! I still do not see them Mine. They are not here. C’ian sighed and walked up the bank to sit beside Shirath. He smiled and flicked mud at the Purple. Shirath recoiled, pawing at his nose. You made me diiirrrttyyy!! How are all the beautiful Dragons going to see my beautiful hide nowww.
C’ian laughed at Shirath and hugged him. You don’t need them! You have me now! And I love you no matter whether you have a little bit of mud on your face. Maybe someone would come and join them and Shirath would want to play. Perhaps he would want to make himself look strong. At the moment he was sitting with his wings displayed and his neck stretched out. He was so beautiful! Everyone should be able to see his beauty no matter where they were!
Well! I think maybe we can sit here then. Wait for the next time when we’re asked to protect the Weyr. Oh yes, when Thread falls and I can fly. I will be able to fly soon. And I will be beautiful! Everyone will want me! [/size]

Zeke was enjoying the afternoon sunshine, Bai padding along behind him with all the gangling grace of a beast too inclined for self-image to be nervous. The Iron wasn't prissy by any means, not even close - but he was still learning about what the world was around him, discovering all these new places and things that His had long since seen and experienced before.
He was arrogant to some extent, but then again Zeke knew all too well that it was a trait that made him that much more endearing. He would be a leader, one day. It was a fact of life, and while the former Drudge did his best to keep his bonded humble and grounded, there were times when it was apparent quite obviously that the dark-maned Westerner was disinclined to discipline his Iron too harshly. Bai kept him on his toes, and he was grateful. He broke up days filled with chores, chores, chores, lessons, and more chores; he brought a reason to continue, and to live, to the 20-turn-old, and there was something to say for that. Zeke wondered every day how he'd ever gotten on without the Iron by his side. While Bai had his periods of impossibility, there was no point if he crushed the spirit of one he intended to spend the rest of his life with. It was a life that took both of them to live.
It is nice out today, Mine. You have Chores to do? I did 'em earlier. While you were sleepin'. 'Member? Ah, yes. Where is m- the Flitt? Kee's pro'ly wanderin' somewhere. She'll be 'round eventually, I'm sure. She annoys me greatly. She's also pretty fond'a you, last I checked. Be nice.
Bai huffed, shifting his wings off his back to carry them slightly raised. The breeze was nice, and he wanted to feel it. Rukbat could be so sharding -hot- some days. As much as he refused to admit it, Baihujinth enjoyed the walks he took with His. He looked forward to the days they would be able to ride together, when he could fly. He'd seen how His was afraid of heights, a little.
He'd told him stories before, of when he'd been Searched from Western Hold, and come here on Blue Argotath. The big Blue that Bai had seen from outside the Weyr sometimes, sitting on his perch on His' quarters. Wayyyy up on the cliff face, so high that Bai had to crane his neck back to see it. One day His would be up there with him. The thought of it filled the Dragonet with pride, and in turn drew a small smirk from the six-foot man walking with him; there were no secrets between the pair, and Zeke saw clearly what Bai was recalling, and what he was thinking.
One day, Mine. Yeah, Bai. One day.
As they approached the lake's outskirts, Bai groaned mentally.
Mine, it's my brother, Shirath, and His. Do we -have- to go say hello? Yeah, Bai. B'sides, it's your brother. Why wouldn't you wanna go say hi? But he's -weird-, Mine. Always crooning about being pretty, and flirting with me, and I don't even -like- boy dragons...doesn't he realize he's supposed to fly girls? He's no diff'rent than you, Bai. There's place in this world for ever'body. B'sides. He works hard. I've seen C'ian an' him doin' chores an' what not, just like ever'body else. They're gonna be part'a this Weyr for a long time. Better get used t'em. He's jus'....what's the word... Eccentric? Annoying? Vain? Arrogant? No, arrogant's you.
Bai scowled, and Zeke laughed outright, raising a hand to wave at the fellow Weyrling and his Purple. As they approached, he flashed a beaming, half-crooked smile their way.
"Afternoon, you two. Enjoyin' the sunshine, too, eh?"

C’ian sighed a little and subtly wiped more mud on the purple. He was too busy showing off to no one that he didn’t seem to notice the mud. C’ian giggled quietly as Shirath turned his gaze upon him finally figuring out that His had just covered part of his hide. Noo… That’s not pretty. I am purple and beautiful. This isn’t right. Oh no! I see my beautiful brother and you’ve made me dirty.
Shirath turned his gaze upon the approaching iron and attempted to remove the mud from one of his beautiful stripes. He watched as the iron approached him and got to his feet with a wink. He coiled himself up and then stretched out as though trying to show off all his colours. Rather unfortunately, this meant he managed to get a little mud on his tail. He keened softly to His as C’ian laughed at him. Getitoffgetitoffgetitoff!
C’ian was practically rolling around in the mud, laughing at the purple. Shirath didn’t seem pleased and pushed him with his nose so he rolled face first into it. It was Shirath’s turn to laugh as he turned his attention back to the iron. My I better alert the runners to tell the Holds to stop looking for their stolen treasure. I just found it.
C’ian had managed to sit next to Shirath by now and was containing his laughter as best he could. He waved a greeting to the Ironweyrling. “Ah hello Z’dyn. How’s Baihujinth today?” Shirath was now trying to act as flirty as possible, crooning every now and again. He should reprimand the purple but, unfortunately, any attempt merely resulted in a very sulky purple.

Zeke's eyes glittered with good humor, and he crossed burly arms over his chest as Bai settled down beside him. The Iron tilted his head, peering over the pair curiously, before mentally nudging His.
What are they doing, Mine? Playing? 'Course. What. You never played b'fore? Not....like that. Shirath is being mean to his... No, no. C'ian is playin' with him. He was putting mud on 'im when we came up here.
The movement was swift, so much that Zeke never expected it. Bai leaned a shoulder into His' hip, knocking the unsuspecting Ironweyrling into the water. The resulting splash shot straight for all three, and Bai settled himself on the shoreline, looking smug and quite amused - if not a bit drenched, but the oil on his hide sheened it into thousands of diamond-like droplets.
You'll pay for that, Ironass. I am prepared for your onslaught, Mine!
As if to back up that statement, Bai's stance shifted, and he crouched down on the sand. Zeke treaded water, eyeballing the Iron before looking back to C'ian and Shirath.
"Arrogant as always, I think. Causin' trouble. Shellin' mischief-maker, that one. Thinkin' I'm gonna be in this water lots longer'n I thought. You two swimmin'? Fig're Shirath's gonna want to get that mud off'a 'im, y-"
Zeke was cut short by a wave of water straight to the face, from Bai's subsequent cannonball. Like a giant shark, he circled His, tail sticking up out of the water. The Ironweyrling was overcome with laughter - once he was through coughing, that was. He stripped off his shirt, thankfully his tunic was already back at their room. The wet white mess of linen was balled up and tossed unceremoniously onto the shore. It would only hinder his arms and weigh him down.
"Oh no, Dragon Shark, Haaaaaaaaaalp!"

C’ian grinned as the iron pushed his partner over into the mud and jumped to his feet. He ran towards them and then dropped onto his stomach, skidding in the mud until he landed in the shallows of the water. He could feel distaste from Shirath and turned to see the purple looking distinctly disgusted as he seemed to debate whether walking into the mud was such a good idea. C’ian laughed at Z’dyn and then jumped back to his feet once more and splashed into the water.
“We’re swimming now!!” C’ian called back, laughing. If you come into the water your hide will shine again. Shirath seemed dubious but he needed to look brave before his gorgeous iron brother. Hmpf… I would not need to swim if you hadn’t made me so dirty. Still… His had a point. He needed to get clean as soon as he could. He closed his eyes and charged towards the water, loathing the feeling of the mud in his claws. He splashed into the water. Oh. Well, this isn’t so bad. I rather enjoy this.
“AHH!!! DRAGON SHARKS ATTACKING!! SWIM Z’DYN, SWIM!!!”
Shirath looked thoroughly confused, staring at His. He seemed to squeal in shock and then splashed through the water in an effort to escape from the elusive Dragon Sharks. They sounded terrifying and he wanted nothing to do with them. If they caught him he would be eaten for sure! Then how would dragons ever want him. Maybe Baihujinth would protect him!
Except he couldn’t reach the iron, the dragon shark was in the way. It was far too scary for him to handle. But C’ianHis was moving away even further, swimming out of the way of him. Were the sharks following!? Don’t let them get me! Save me Baihujinth! Save me gallant iron!!
C’ian laughed loudly as he swam away from Shirath pleased that he was joining in, even if it seemed to be by total accident that he had cottoned on to the game. Actually, C’ian was pretty sure Shirath hadn’t realised it was a game.

Zeke nearly drowned in laughter, as Bai's tail hooked around and headed straight for Shirath. The six-foot-tall burly Westerner flicked several of his braids out of the way, cackling like a lunatic as Bai's tail went to wrap around his brother's forelimb, and drag the Purple in a dunk under.
The Dragon Shark has you, silly Purple! Face the might of the Iron-ender! Raaaaaawr!
Bai popped his head up out of the water, shooting Shirath a broad, toothy dragonet grin. The roar at the end of his comment was vocalized as something close to a good-natured squeak, which served only to make Zeke laugh even harder. By the time Bai fully surfaced, standing on his back legs and treading with his front, his bonded was losing it.
"C'ian!? D'you see those two? You'd think they'd come from the same egg, let 'lone the same clutch!"
Is this "pretend" Mine? Yeah, Bai. Yeah, it's pretendin'. Doin' right well, too. Jus' 'member, don't go scarin' Shirath too bad.
Zeke treaded water a few strokes away from C'ian, blue eyes turning towards the other man with a broad, but still lopsided, grin.
"Sorta day makes ya forget life's anythin' but fun, eh?"

Shirath shrieked as he went under and started flailing about in fear. Oh no, what was the beautiful iron going to think of him now? He had swallowed some water and managed to push his head back up drawing in a huge breath. Had his brother pushed him down because he loved him? It was the only explanation! The iron must have finally been returning his affections. Baihujinth had never outright rejected him, which clearly meant the iron wanted him!
With that established Shirath seemed to become braver. He was still confused by the whole concept of pretending something was happening but he understood a little more. He had to fight the dragon shark and protect His! Then, with his bravery, he would show all the others how beautifully wonderful he was. I shall protect you Mine from the dragon shark!
But Shirath didn’t seem to know what to do. He floundered for a moment and then looked over for C’ian but His had disappeared. Suddenly, he felt something grab his tail. He shrieked again and turned to see His climbing along his tail.
“I will stop the dragon sharks from attacking. This purple one seems sillier than the other!”
C’ian felt the confusion of the dragon as he flailed a little but he seemed to finally understand what was going on as he shouted to His and Baihujinth. Oh yes! I am a dragon shark, and, ah um… I will eat you all! C’ian laughed as Shirath tried to dunk Baihujinth but seemed to only manage to dunk himself. He flailed again and then turned to wrap his tail around C’ian and drag him under.
C’ian broke the surface spluttering and then swam towards Z’dyn as Shirath tried to chase him. “They’re everywhere! Swim away, swim away!”

Zeke laughed outright, pretending to panic and swim towards deeper water. Bai cruised along just under the surface, his spines breaking the shimmering boundary like a crocodile - his head and tail continued to be raised just above it, as he headed to Shirath's vicinity.
Much to Z'dyn's surprise, his Iron actually spoke audibly for them all to hear.
"I will vanquish this vile beast! Quickly, Shirath! To Mine! Be prepared for your end, evil being!"
Zeke's laughter was like a cannonshot; loud, rich, and boisterous across the water's length, echoing into the reaches of the Bowl. It had been some time since he'd been able to just unwind, and amuse himself with things much more casual than work. It was a refreshing change, and it was welcome in the face of what they had coming. When Threadfall began, he suspected that time outside would be short, if at all - at least when they weren't fighting it. It would be far too dangerous. He treaded water easily, the movements rather effortless for the upper body strength he had.
"Swim, Shirath, swim! Dun let 'im get ya!"

It was odd to hear another voice in his mind, one that was so obviously not Shirath. Shirath was almost lyrical and over the top with his speech so to C’ian this voice was very obviously different. C’ian grinned realising how much of an honour it was to have another dragon speak to him. Sure, he’d heard the Queens summoning them for a clutch but it was rare, and awesome, to have another dragon speak directly to him.
As time passed it became increasingly apparent that Shirath had no grasp of the concept of imagination. He would possibly learn it, shards with C’ian as his bonded he would definitely figure it out, but at the moment he seemed thoroughly confused. He flailed about in the water a moment longer as though trying to keep away from everyone. He didn’t seem to know whether or not Baihujinth was on his side or not. He also seemed thoroughly hesitant to dunk His under the water. I will show everyone how wonderful I am by ridding Pern of these foul beasts!
C’ian found it interesting that Shirath seemed to be copying his brother as though he thought this may make the iron love him more. Regardless, it made him laugh even harder… until he felt something wrap around his ankle and yank him under the water. He flailed about in shock and managed to free himself spotting the purple dragon nearby. Apparently Shirath had decided that tails could be used for more than flirting.
“Ah they’ve got some sort of invisible hands to grab us! I think they’ve turned Shirath into one of them! No! We’ll be next if we let them catch us!” Shirath growled playfully as C'ian tried to swim away from the purple.

Baihujinth shifted, crocodiling his way through the water - notably with his tail up and twitching to and fro. It looked like a wagging canine's, and only served to make Zeke laugh so hard he couldn't think of anything else.
"Bai, you're killin' me...oh shells, my ribs hurt, stoooooooooop!" Oh no, Mine. There is no hope for you this time! Your brother's gettin' the hang'a it, I think. This 'make believe' thing you speak of, Mine? Mmhmmm.
Zeke flattened himself out, holding his chest as he floated in the water on his back.
"Oh no....oh dear...I think....I think it got me...arg...ahhh...."
With that, the burly Ironweyrling backflipped under the surface, swimming under the sun-light barrier and heading towards Shirath. Circling the Purple, he poked at his hip, before he grabbed C'ian's ankle and went to jerk him down under the crystalline surface.
He came up for air a few moments later, blowing water in a wide ark through the air. And looking for his Iron.
"Bai.....Bai, where'd you go...." Bai?

Shirath bugled triumphantly and flashed a wing out of the water in a manner that he seemed to consider incredibly irresistible. He looked over just in time to see his iron brother disappear under the surface of the water. That looked to be brave. He was a brave handsome dragon… Perhaps he should do the same. He ducked under the water, wings still poking out of the water like two large flags. He paddled under the water with his eyes closed convinced that if he opened them they would be ruined.
C’ian spluttered as he broke the surface of the water and looked about. All the others had just about disappeared from view but, turning, he spotted Shirath’s wings moving backwards through the water and then around in a circle. Z’dyn broke the surface then and C’ian realised that the weyrling must have pulled him under the water. He grinned, rather determined to get him back but stopped when Shirath popped his head out of the water and looked about seemingly confused.
“You’ll not trick me dragonshark! I know what you’re playing at over there. Trying to lure me over.” Nooo I am hiding treasure. You better not come over here. He broadcast it to the two males and then looked about distracted, But where is my ally…?
Now that C’ian came to think of it, he hadn’t seen the iron hatchling in a little while. He frowned and ducked under the water, trying to see where the dragon might be hiding. He didn’t particularly like the thought of being snuck up on by a dragon that seemed almost twice his size and three billion times as scary but it was impossible to prepare himself for any possible sneak attacks considering that there was very low visibility under the water.
He broke the surface again and looked over at Z’dyn with some worry concerned that something was amiss. Shirath had taken to paddling about, chin in the water and wings waving around like strange, purple flags.

The movement was sudden, almost explosive. Zeke shrieked loudly when the Iron erupted from the surface behind him, sending a wave rolling past the pair of Weyrlings with a triumphant bugle of exhilaration.
I got you, Mine! I got both of you!
Z'dyn gripped his chest, coughing and treading water with one hand. He flopped back against the surface of the water, lungs full of air to keep him buoyant, but both hands across his heart.
"Shard it, Bai, like t'gimme a heart attack. Sheeeeesh."
He closed his eyes, and when the Iron swam over to check on His, Zeke grabbed his head just behind his jaws, and exhaled. Both Weyrling and Draonet vanished in a splash beneath the surface, and a moment later he came up laughing, Bai flailing slightly before swimming circles around both His, and C'ian. The Iron looked back towards the pair of wing-like sails protruding from the water, and started towards him, once more taking up his crocodilian position just beneath the surface.
Here I come, Shirath! Swim, swim, fast as you can!

C’ian splashed through the water in surprise and then swam as swiftly as he could away from the dragon shark. Unfortunately, it was rather difficult to get away from a creature that was almost larger than him. He was stuck as the iron circled about them and then looked over at Shirath’s wings as they moved somewhat ominously though the water.
Shirath kept kicking his way through the water convinced he was hidden from view. Perhaps if he managed to sneak up on his iron brother he would be so in awe of his amazing awesomeness. To Shirath, the two followed one another naturally. He was not expecting to be seen by the other dragon and immediately breathed out into the water creating a whole load of bubbles. He threw his head up and snorted the water out of his nose before he trumpeted and swam as swiftly as he could from the larger dragon.
I am the fastest swimmer in the whole Weyr. You are only lucky that you’re such a beautiful looking dragon shark or else I would have won a long time ago.
He puffed himself up proudly and then swam away, closer to C’ian. The weyrling reached out and jumped onto the dragon, lying on his back. Shirath flailed before his back sank and only his head was still above the water.
“Haha! I have subdued one of them. We must be careful to take them to the Weyr for further study! WOAH!”
Shirath had suddenly paddled forwards and flipped about throwing C’ian towards Baihujinth. He flew rather spectacularly through the air while the purple dragon watched on in amusement. Apparently Shirath was slowly becoming accustomed to the actions of His and the make believe game they were playing.

The uproarous laughter from the Ironweyrling when C'ian exploded into the air from Shirath's back echoed across the lake. He grimaced at the landing, before he found himself in much the same predicament - apparently Baihujinth had witnessed the event, and taken it upon himself to mimic his brother. Zeke was in water, and suddenly found himself airborne.
"Bai, nononononoNOOO HOOOOOOLY SHAAAAAAAAAAAR-"
The collision on his back drove all the air out of his lungs, and for a moment he laid there in agony, before a sharp inhale proved he wasn't down for the count after all. He flexed his limbs, making sure everything still worked, and laid his hands over his chest with a mutter of less-than-approvable language.
You are all right, Mine? Countin' m'ribs, Bai. Gimme five. Five? Less'n six an' seven, more'n four... Oh. Counting, yes? I see. I will not toss you anymore, Mine. I am sorry it hurt- Didn't hurt me. Just scared me a li'l. I'm fine.
Z'dyn pulled his body forwards, removing himself from a floating position and back to treading water. He swam a bit stiffly towards C'ian and Shirath, Bai swimming up beside them. He seemed a bit out of breath, and his back was red from the impact with the water.
"I'm gonna take a breather, 'f'it's all right. Last one knocked the breath right outta me."
Pending C'ian didn't try to stop him, Z'dyn moved to pull himself up on the shoreline and splay out on his back, hair disheveled out behind him and pulling an arm over his face to block out some of Rukbat's rays. Bai motored around the pair, curious as to what they were up to.

C’ian floated for a moment on the water, attempting to lure Shirath closer to him so he could get back at the purple. Shirath had other things in mind, it seemed, for at that moment he seemed more than happy to show off for Baihujinth once again, flapping his wings and smiling at him in what could only be described as a feline watching its prey. Apparently Baihujinth had been paying some attention to Shirath for Z’dyn was suddenly thrown through the air and landed in the water with what sounded like a ‘smack’.
C’ian cringed at the sound of the other Weyrling hitting the water and watched him with concern as he floated there one his back. “You right?” He asked with concern but his question was answered almost immediately. He nodded with a small smile and watched Z’dyn swim his way over to the banks. He wasn’t smiling because the iron Weyrling had been injured but rather simply because they had managed to get dragons to play such a game with them. He would have never ever considered that a sub-king would play like this, let alone a king…
Is yours fine…? Shirath asked Baihujinth doubtfully. He certainly did not seem Ok… He spotted His swimming over to the banks and then flapped his wings in something of a shrug. Well, if the other human had managed to swim to the banks it meant he was not about to collapse any time soon at least. Then again, he was lying on the banks very still.
C’ian splashed his way out of the water and then collapsed next to Z’dyn, sitting and looking out at the dragons. “Well, lucky you two came along, Shirath was struggling with the concept of pretending something was real. He had me extremely worried there for a while.” C’ian commented cheerfully.
He didn’t know what he would have done if he had impressed a dragon who happened to be particularly against playing the games he was prone to making up. Shirath wasn’t at all what he had expected, but he still loved the purple.

Zeke grinned, peeping out from under his arm at C'ian. Brow raised, he chuckled quietly and shook his head.
"Know the feelin'. Baihujinth's got 'is days. Somedays, playful like that. Would never know, stuffy as he gets sometimes. Always so serious. Works hard like I do, understands it plenty fine, jus'....well, a little bit stern. Still tryin' t'teach 'im that it's all right t'relax sometimes. I know he's an Iron an' all, but what good's life if y'can't unwind sometimes?"
He sat up with a slight grimace, rubbing at his lower back before leaning on his knees, squinting into the sun to look out at the pair still swimming. Bai evaded Shirath for the most part, but the Iron seemed much more at ease around his Purple brother than he had been. Zeke pulled the mass of his sand-riddled hair from his shoulders, only to have it fall back across them. He dug at the ground between his bare feet with a sigh.
"It's a test, ever'day, I tell you. Amazin' how much it changes things, havin' 'im around. You go from livin' life for yourself, all'a sudden you got this other mind with you. This whole other thin', t'protect an' keep up with. I can't wait for 'im t'get older, but same time? I don't want 'im to. He knows what t'do, on a lotta things, but other stuff, not so much. But Bai, he don't give me a load'a shards for workin' all the time. He gets it. He sees his Daddy, an' he gets it. It's...jus' what we do. I mean...I'm not so smart's t'understand a lot of stuff, but I know we're facin' a whole lot of work. I guess this...just somethin' t'unwind, b'fore all that gets started, ya know? Get t'know his clutchmates, people we're gonna be workin' with out here."
Zeke dug his heel in, eyeballing his toes briefly before he let his gaze linger on the Purple and the Iron once more. Bai's gangly form swept swiftly through the water, and the Dragonet was quickly adapting his makeshift swimming lessons into something a bit more refined, just like he'd be one day. The former Drudge was proud of his bonded, and the fact that Baihujinth had thought enough of him to pick him, out of the dozens of more than worthy others that had stood with him that day. He felt like the luckiest guy in the world.
"Funny, how you go so long thinkin' you don't need anybody, all of a sudden they show up, an' you can't imagine livin' without 'em."
Bai, meanwhile, puttered around Shirath with a curious expression, eyes whirling a rather content blue and green. He kept swimming circles, somewhat content with the cool water against his hide, given how hot Rukbat was at that particular candlemark. At the Purple's inquiry, he turned his attention back to C'ian and His.
Mine is tough, Shirath. He has survived much worse. Look, he sits up fine now, talking to Yours. I am not worried. Are you learning as much from Yours as I am from Mine?

Woah! C’ian was not expecting such a deep conversation after lazing and splashing about in the water! Then again, he had brought it up. His brow creased slightly in the effort it took to pay close attention to the words of the other Weyrling. Even when he was forcing himself to concentrate as he had done in the hatching other things almost always distracted him. However, this was not nearly as long as a hatching so he didn’t feel that he was not paying attention. Oh shards, what had Z’dyn just said?
Yes he definitely agreed with that. He and Shirath were more alike than he had initially realised. Who would have thought that not having a roommate would have caused him to feel somewhat rejected just as Shirath had felt on the sands when each and every dragon he had approached happily pushed him away. At least Baihujinth was putting up with him nicely. It was rather good to see considering how many times Shirath had been rejected on the sands.
“At first I didn’t really know why Shirath chose me. I mean, there were so many others on the Sands… But the more I get to know him I realise just how similar we are. Not in the same ways, but subtly, under the surface. I’m glad that you seem to have your head screwed on right. If I’m in your wing I will gladly follow you.”
You chose him because his strength matches yours oh mighty iron. Shirath winked and snaked his neck in what he seemed to think was a suggestive manner. Good choice, but C’ianHis was chosen for his interesting mind. So many different thoughts all at once and most of them thoroughly unrelated to what was happening at the time. Shirath loved it! He paddled around and then rolled in a circle drawing his wings in close to him.
Look! Why, I am flying! This is just like how the dragons fly in the sky only less dangerous for I will never fall!

The Ironweyrling shifted, digging once more at the ground with his heel. It was a habit, being idle - he couldn't sit still for too long. It drove him crazy, always had. He looked a little bit sheepish, scratching at his half-missing ear and the side of his scarred face before rubbing the back of his neck.
"Made me sad, too, seein' all of 'em walkin' past 'im. He's an all right lookin' Purple, nothin' wrong with 'im, no reason for people, dragons, too, t'shun him like they did. Not right, not at all. I tell Baihujinth all the time, if he's gonna be a leader one day, needs t'learn how to be nice to ever'body. Not jus' people in charge, ya know? He bucks me on it a whole lot. Arrogant, sometimes, but he's learnin'. Teachin' me a lot of things, too." He leaned on his knees, rolling a loose stone from the shoreline between his fingers. "Parents always told me, t'treat people same's I'd want to be treated. Been doin' my best t'keep that in mind."
Baihujinth shifted, smirking faintly with oversize jaws, swimming circles around Shirath and likewise being swam circles around himself.
Mine is strong, yes. Yours is interesting, too. I like how he plays - Mine tells me that it is like training, only more fun. Not like the lessons we're being taught. It's hot out here, but it's nice, too. A lot better than being inside, I think. I didn't want to swim, but now I'm glad that Mine made us. Bai's eyes whirled a steady blue, and he looked towards the shoreline where C'ian was talking to His. I'll be happy to fly. It seems so boring here on the ground. Have you been working on making your wings strong, Shirath? Can not have us weak when we first start flying, hmmm? You will impress far more Dragons if you are strong and powerful. Make yours proud, yes?

C’ian had also felt sorry for Shirath, the poor purple was just trying to make friends the only way he knew how, even if he happened to be a little cheesy on the surface. C’ian had the privilege of getting to know him better than most would. The fact that so many dragons had walked past him on the sands actually made him laugh somewhat. Certainly, Shirath had attracted a lot of attention from the candidates if only because he was wandering about doing some of the strangest things.
“That’s the best philosophy to have. My parents always told me, ‘stop playing with your father’s harp, SHARD IT CORIAN YOU BROKE IT!’ but they held the same sentiment. I never dreamed I would be searched but spending time as a crafter in a Weyr did help some. I saw the best and worst of people in Benden. I came to understand what people meant when they said to treat everyone equally…”
Benden wasn’t all that bad but he had certainly seen people impress who seemed far too self obsessed to care about anything but their own interests. Perhaps there was something else he could not see that a dragon could but it had been frustrating to watch others impress from the stands and wonder how such a person was fit for a dragon. He picked up a handful of mud and tossed it in his hands. Grinning he drew his hand back and launched the mud at the two dragons in the water. Shirath’s eyes widened at the compliment paid to him by the iron. He crooned and then flashed a toothy draconic kind of smile, flapping his wings. Sure he had been practising! What kind of a dragon was he that he wouldn’t even bother testing out his wings!? Maybe he had been worried about actually flying with them just yet but when he was able he would soar through the skies and impress even that stuffy orange.
Yes, the ground does seem boring but it is necessary for allowing us to admire each others glorious hides. My wings shall be the strongest ever. Together, you and I and Mine and Yours will soar, so radiant that Rukbat itself shall become jealous and descend from the sky to see those who would dare steal its admirers adoration.
Shirath turned and spotted something coming towards him and ducked at the last moment, dodging the projectile His had launched.

Z'dyn chuckled, raking his hand through his braided mane only to promptly squeeze water from the strands. He shook his head.
"Won't lie, broke m'share'a stuff, too. Jus' what happens, when you're'a kid. Was sorta funny, too - all these people'n the Hold, they get t'be jus' as much fam'ly t'you as ever'body else. Much as your real fam'ly, I mean. Sure, there's some you hate all to shells, but it's kinda like me an' mine. You're the only one 'llowed t'pick on 'em. By ever'thin' holy, you let someone else do it, an' see what happens."
He grinned, tossing the small stone upwards and catching it on the back of his hand, before it was set about rolling between his knuckles once more.
C'ian's glob of mud was bypassed by Shirath, but Baihujinth caught it right to the side of the neck. Z'dyn buried his face in his arm, stifling laughter, but it got out anyways. He fell on his back, holding his sides and cracking up. Bai treaded water for a moment, looking to Shirath, and then to C'ian. And then to His.
He filled his mouth full of water. Z'dyn sat up.
Don't y'do it. But MINE- I said No. Dun you dare. But....BUT- Baihujinth.
"Awwwwww." The Iron opened his mouth, the sound escaping with the water, which only made Z'dyn laugh harder.
There will be revenge, Mine. No, they're won't. Be nice. I WAS NICE AND HE THREW MUD AT ME! Don't raise your voice t'me, Dragonet. May be waist-high, but still not big 'nough t'kick my ass. Behave. But MINE- I said behave. Not tellin' you again. He wasn't aimin' for you, was aimin' for Shirath. Y'just didn't move in time.
Baihujinth muttered, dipping below the surface to rinse the mud from his hide. Z'eke cracked a smile, shaking his head.

Anything C’ian had touched as a child had seemed to break without a moment’s notice. Even those things he had been near seemed to just break and any amount of protesting he did to inform his parents and superiors otherwise resulted in an admonition for lying. Then again, his parents had always been a little vague so they didn’t seem to mind all that much. The Journeyman harpers in Harperhall, on the other hand, hadn’t taken all that kindly to his tendency to break things. The only classes he really enjoyed were the movement and drumming ones. He could be as energetic as he wanted in those ones.
C’ian clapped his hand to his mouth as the mud bypassed Shirath and hit Baihujinth on his neck. He stifled his laughter and watched as the iron ducked under the water as though he was about to collect a whole mouthful. “Oh sh-“ He was about to jump to his feet when the iron seemed to deflate rather comically as one might when they had taken in a whole lot of air and then been forced to release it. C’ian laughed and smiled at the iron dragonet. Apparently Bai didn’t particularly like mud either. C’ian, on the other hand, lived for playing in any form of dirt.
Miiiinneeee How could you do that to the beautiful Baihujinth!? You will apologise this instant! “Sorry Baihujinth! I was trying to get that great lump of egotistical purple dragon over there.”
He winked as Shirath turned his head slowly back to him. C’ian ignored the purple for the moment, a wry smile practically pasted on his features.
“Yeah, I imagined a Hold would be much the same. Well, I mean, it’s different in that there aren’t dragons flying about everywhere. There must have been a few Whers about though. Can’t say I see many of them as much as I like staying awake at night.”
There was a splash and C’ian turned to see a wave of water flying at him and spotted Shirath retracting his wing. Apparently, using his wings, Shirath had splashed water from the lake in retaliation. C’ian could not help but feel proud of the purple.
“Oi! You realise this means war!” He called, jumping to his feet and picking up another handful of mud readying himself to fling it back at Shirath. [/blockquote]

Zeke seemed to recoil a little bit at the mention of Whers. The Ironweyrling wasn't fond of them whatsoever - not with the history he had. He rubbed slightly at his jawline, on the side with the half-missing ear and scarred face. Not to mention the ones along his arm and back. He struggled to keep up appearances, and Bai answered His' first show of any sort of uncertainty with a curious tilt of his head.
Mine.. It's all right, Bai. I'm fine. Dun worry. You are afraid of Whers. I remember this, Mine. Do me a favor. Dun mention't 'round nobody, yeah? Not somethin' I like ever'body knowin' about. Of course, Mine.
"Thick as thieves sometimes, other times, not many. Jus' depends on where y'go."
Bai nodded slightly to the apology, and idly sidled through the water - easily enough that he hoped Shirath wouldn't notice. It would give C'ian a clearer shot. Not that...you know... Bai was afraid of being hit by anything, of course.
"Hard t'believe couple months from now, we'll be lookin' at snow 'gain, mebbe."

C’ian was the type to notice things but never know what to do about them. Turning back to check whether Z’dyn was out of range of Shirath’s attacks he noticed the seeming distaste in the ironweyrling’s expression. Trying to think back to what might have triggered it C’ian found that he couldn’t think of anything. Perhaps it was merely the thought of getting into something of a war with dragons that had made him do it. He was generally just unable to say the right things at the same time. Perhaps it had something to do with what he was now touching, his marred features.
The two of them were practically scar buddies although C’ian’s was considerably better than the ironweyrling’s. Fortunately for him his scar just tended to drag his mouth into a smile and was not debilitating in any way. Well, whatever it was it could be fixed with a lot of laughter and fun! It just took some time to accept and understand this. Some of those he knew reasonably well tended towards not being comfortable with joking around. Thankfully, Z’dyn didn’t seem that type.
“The monsters are attacking again!!” He lifted up a whole handful of mud and started throwing it back at Shirath in rapid fire, working hard to try to get the purple. “Yes! When it’s snowing again we’ll be able to show these fearsome creatures not to mess with this Weyr!”
Shirath tried to duck out of the way but managed to be hit in the face with at least three handfuls of mud. He opened his eyes and stared at the bank of the lake as C’ian let up on the ammunition. I look hideous now! Baihujinth, my dear brother, I look horrible now, who will ever love me with all this mud? ‘ I will! HAHA
C’ian threw just one more handful of mud at Shirath hitting him on his neck. Shirath had stopped whining at Baihujinth but was certainly fishing for compliments of sorts.

Zeke must have realized his own disturbances, because once he caught the shift in C'ian's attention, he dropped his hands between his knees to the mud, looking more than a little sheepish. Blue eyes shifted to the Purple and his own Iron, and he shook his head with a slow laugh. He flopped back to the ground, echoing the laughter at Baihujinth's eye ridge-raise towards Shirath. And subsequently when the Iron dragonet reached over with his tail to attempt to dunk the Purple's head under - and wash off the mud His had inundated him with.
There. You are clean again! Impressive, no?
There was a grin from the Iron, but Z'dyn was cackling on the shoreline. His arm finally went across his eyes, and he stretched out.
"You heard anythin' from the rest'a these two's clutchmates? I see couple of 'em around sometimes, but never get the chance t'see how they're doin'. I fig're, social's Shirath is, you'd know better'n me."

Noticing that the ironweyrling seemed to cheer up C’ian decided that he would probably not have to press the matter. Not that he ever really did but it was always a little troubling when someone appeared to have some troubles but he rarely ever knew what to say… So he simply smiled back at Z’dyn in what he hoped was an uplifting sort of way. He turned his gaze back to Shirath as the Purple still looked over at him with an incredulous sort of expression, apparently rather saddened by the fact that he had mud on him.
Shirath’s mouth closed abruptly, however, when the Iron dunked him under the water and he swam to the surface spluttering in a draconic, dramatic manner. Oooh that was so meeeaannn… C’ianMine you made me go under the water. Why is everyone so meeaaaaannn to me? Because they love you! I do! Oh but you are the one who is always causing problems for me.
Giving up on His, Shirath decided to beseech Baihujinth, turning to the Iron and crooning lightly at him in response to the statement. Oh and you agree that my hide is beautiful! I must have the truest beauty on Pern! My you are strong, beautiful and also an amazing flatterer. Truly you must be the kindest Iron in the whole of Pern! He swam closer to the Iron and then began flirtingly swimming closer and closer to him…
“Hey? Oh yeah! I’ve seen loads of em. Well… Only E’kiel because he was my roommate but he and Aldebarath have been doing really well. I’ve seen some of the others but I’ve only really spoken to a couple of them. I guess some are just really overwhelmed. I know I am!”
Knowing that Shirath would grow to be close to 40 feet in length meant that C’ian wanted to make use of the time he had with a small dragon while he had the chance. All the things that had seemed so simple when the dragon was a hatchling suddenly made him realise just how much work he would be doing to care for Shirath when the purple was fully grown.
