Name: K’ber (Kimber) Gender: Male Age: 24 (Fall) Sexuality: Heterosexual Location: Dalibor Weyr Rank: Wingleader
Personality: K'ber is very quiet person. He uses few words and is not generally known for being particularly outgoing. In fact, he’s generally a very solitary and stoic figure. He goes about his and helps people when they need it and otherwise tries to stay out of other people’s business. Though he does really have a tendency to help anyone who needs it; they don’t have to ask either and he doesn’t expect thanks. You can’t lift something? He’ll carry it for you. You can’t find something? He’ll help you try and find it. Even if he is aiding you, it is unlikely that he will say much, if anything, to you though; he talks with actions rather than words. The rest he does such things is because he does and they’re the right thing to do.
In truth, he’s very big on the ‘doing things because they’re right’ idea. He’s got a very strong sense of honor and is rather chivalrous. Though everyone deserves respect in his mind, woman and girls generally just trigger a knight-like sense of needing to treat them properly. He’s got a very firm, straight sense of morality and a very guiding moral compass. Everything is black and white for him. Some things are bad and some things are good and it’s as simple as that. It’s all very simple for him and that’s how he prefers it; he dislikes it when things get more complicated. He stands up for what he believes in and that’s all he does. There certainly doesn’t seem to be much complicated about him much of the time.
Of course, the root of his nobleness, which is the root of other facets of his actions, is probably in the fact that he’s very goodhearted. He’s kind, caring, gentle, all those sort of things. He likes animals and helping people, swimming in salty waters and whistling soft tunes, evenings with friends and quiet conversation. When he fights, it’s only for what he believes, but he never sees any cause for violence. He much prefers a good old hug and smiles to causing any sort of disturbance. It would be fitting to call him a pushover in any sense, but he’s more the cuddly sort rather than the sort who is all about action and loud noises. He’s really just like a big, stuffed canine toy when you get to know him.
And when you get to know him, he’s going to be a good person to know. K'ber is extremely loyal to those that he befriends. When you’re his friend, you’re someone who should be fought for (because you’re someone he believes in) and someone to stand by. Through fog, fire, and fall, he’ll always be there for you. He helps people, anyone who needs it, out normally, but imagine him ten times as ready to help you specifically, always there watching and ready to give you aid. That’s the sort of unwavering loyalty you get from him. He isn’t the sort to question people, especially those he’s got a belief in, so it’s doubtful that the loyalty with ever flicker. Once it’s there, it’s there to stay until something shakes it enough to break.
Still, despite all his nobleness and intentions, he seems always very silent. That’s because he’s shy, very, very, very shy. New people don’t exactly make him nervous but he’s never exactly sure of what to say and that makes him nervous. He isn’t outgoing; he isn’t friend. He likes people but he just isn’t one who can make conversation or easily make friends. Even when he does get to know someone, he doesn’t tend to be that talkative. When he does speak, more than a few monosyllables, it doesn’t tend to be that deft either, especially if you’re expressly trying to get him to speak. He tends to be stutter, varying from just not being sure of his words to being full out nervous gibberish. Talking simply isn’t something he's good at.
Appearance: K'ber had dark brown hair that’s wild, slightly curly, and very scraggly. Its color looks very black except for some more obvious brown and somewhat reddish highlights, and its unruliness comes from it being so thick and subtly wiry. Though he likes to try to keep it cut short and manageable, it always grows out quick and becomes just as untamable as it usually is in no time flat. To match the dark color of his hair, his eyes are an almost black dark brown as well. The color of the iris blends into the pupil, and, when shadowed, the entire thing generally comes off as one uniform, black circle. Besides his eyes and hair, his face has a distinct, somewhat square, jutting jaw, a nose that’s a little on the big side with a very flat bridge, and ears that stick out from his head a little too much.
At five feet and nine inches, he's about average in height. In build, he’s a little more burly and sturdy, but, since his main form of exercise has always been swimming, he's leaner in actual weight and physical design. This simple fact makes him look longer, especially when combined with his long neck, despite his neck also being thick, his shoulders being very square, and his hands and feet being huge. Typically, he’s tanned, which, for him, is a very soft golden coloring to his skin. If he doesn’t get as much sun as he normally likes too, he becomes extremely pale, though it’s a healthy, sort of almond colored pallor. Though in the water, he’s as graceful as can be, on land, he’s not that coordinated. He has no finesse about his movements out of the water and more just plods.
Family: Talbar (Father) – Cotholder at Crescent Hold Kimlee (Mother) – Journeywoman Dolphineer at Crescent Hold Tallee (Older Sister) – Journeywoman Dolphineer at Southern Hold Kibra (Older Sister) – Journeywoman Dolphineer at Ista Hold Tambar (Younger Brother ) – Holdbrat at Crescent Hold Pets: Piteous, Black Firelizard (3 turns - Shy, Depressive, Cheery) Fin, Brass Pillie (1 turn - Stubborn, Possessive, Grumpy) Skip, Pink Pillie (1 turn - Sweet, Wiggly, Happy) Siffi, Spotted Tawny Feline (2 turns - Happy, Sweet, Aquatic) History: Talbar was a quiet, pleasant man, a cotholder at Eastern Hold. Kimlee was a dominant, fierce dolphineer stationed there. The two of them made an unlikely pair, but a pair there were. At seven turns, their first daughter, Tallee, was already showing signs that she was going to grow up just like her mother and had been accepted as a Dolphincraft apprentice. There other daughter, Kibra, who was four, certainly knew how to be bossy as well. That was the situation, a family with three forceful girls and a very placid man, that Kimber was born into. Though it wasn’t like he lacked proper care, the focal, caring point of his childhood he would always remember as the dolphins, especially his mother’s dolphin, Tikel, who was much sweeter than her partner in disposition and highly maternal.
From before he could ever walk, he was in the water. It was fully expected that he would grow up to be a dolphineer, just like his sisters would be and his mother was. His father had long since conceded that none of his children were going to take over their little cothold. He learned to swim as he learned to walk, living a life only half on land as he was watched over by Tallee, his mother, or a dolphin with another partner. It wasn’t like either of his sisters were particularly fond of him – Tallee, as an apprentice after all, thought he was far beneath her, and Kibra, having seemingly been in her terrible twos for several turns now, enjoyed complaining about a variety of things, him being one of them.
Because of all that, one couldn’t really be all that surprised that, even when he learned to speak, he was a quiet toddler and a quiet child after that. He was a pleasure to watch for the first six turns of his and generally very helpful, willingly doing whatever simple task anyone needed to do. He had his tantrums and his moments, but he preferred not to gain a glare from his older sisters, both of which were apprentices by that, or a sharp word from his mother. It wasn’t long after his sixth turnday that he became an apprentice dolphineer, joining his sisters amongst their ranks. However, he saw little of them, given that they were at least three turns ahead of them in their studies. It was all a flurry of dolphins and swimming – anatomy lessons, breath control, marine biology, first aid for both species that would be in the partnership, and so many other things.
Through all of his quietness and his old habit of being helpful, he just developed a firm moral compass. His father hadn’t said much too him in his entire life; his sisters teased and picked on him. His mother, his friends, and his teachers were only good for asking about dolphins, the sea, and swimming. So, just from the general world around him and his own opinions he had formed somewhere in his childhood, he decided what was right and wrong. He was a diligent student. Despite being an awe-inspiring swimmer, he always practiced, knowing that he would never compare to a dolphin. He wasn’t nearly a good with the science and bookwork, but he tried and applied himself. In all honesty, he didn’t compare to the rest of his sisters and mother, who had a knack for it all, but he did well enough to continue.
Though junior apprentices rarely formed a real partnership with one of the fleeting shipfish, he finally became close to a young female named Chi when he was fourteen, being more senior at that point, after both Kibra and Tallee had already walked the tables and gone off too far off places. The energetic young dolphin loved the quiet, reserved teenager who always seemed so sure of what he should do despite that. They were an adoring, inseparable partnership. His relationship with Chi was one of the few things that he remembered his mother showing real pleasure and approval about. He was just glad to have someone to swim with and explore the coves by his home with, when they weren’t in lesson. Dolphineers didn’t tend to make many friends with holders there, and quiet ones didn’t made friends with much of anyone.
Kimber was fifteen turns old when his little brother was born. With all her children growing up, his mother had actually accepted a kind suggestion from her husband that perhaps they should have just one more child. The little boy was a smiling, bouncy baby, named Tambar, and immediately mainly his responsibility. He didn’t mind. However, Chi had no interest in her partner’s new sibling and they began to drift apart. Despite missing the fact that she didn’t hang out with him as much anymore, he took care of his brother, who came first in his mind. He remembered flickers of water and dolphins from his own youth and did his best to make sure that Tam was well cared for, giving him all the love and attention that he could while still trying to succeed in his classes. It still stunted his progress. Of course, he also made sure that his brother was introduced good and properly to the water while he was still a baby, though he was very careful to make sure there was never a chance he’d be in danger.
It wasn’t long after Tambar’s first turnday that his mother made the decision that they were moving to Crescent Hold, where there was a new Dolphinhall. She packed up her husband and their two sons and they made the journey across the sea, escorted by an entire pod of dolphins. Kimber was saddened to see that Chi wasn’t amongst them. Still, he settled into his new life, still working as an apprentice and taking care of his brother, while his father set up his new little cothold and his mother fell back into her work. Things returned to almost as they had been; they were on a new continent but it didn’t really affect their daily lives. The biggest difference was the new waters, with their new currents and new little nooks and crannies. When he wasn’t caring for Tam, he enjoyed exploring, sometimes escorted by a dolphin or three, and testing this colder, more temperate sea.
Just a few sevendays after Tambar’s second turnday when a black from Dalibor Weyr came to search for candidates. Since everyone else was going to see the rider, he went as well, with a yodeling Tam clinging to his back. The last thing he expected was for the dragon to select him, but his little brother accepted for him. After that, his father offered his quiet approval and his mother just waved off, so he took a sack of his things and went with the black after making a promise to Tambar to be back as soon as he could. Tam was just happy to have the bragging rights amongst his friends that his brother was going to Impress a dragon (actually, that his brother was going to ‘Imp’ess the biggest Kin’ eva’.’)
And Impress a dragon, a King, Kimber did. As a candidate, he made some friends at the lake, his favorite place, and made a fool of himself accidentally getting drunk at a party, right in front of a girl named Lynx. But the hatching of copper Kalith's first clutch, sired by Daidoroth, came around and he emerged from his attempts to avoid noticing lurking in the lake to stand. The first of the dragonets to hatch, from a large gray-brown egg, was an iron, one that came to be known as Detritath.
