Name:
Caelin
Gender:
Male
Age:
19 Turns
Sexuality:
Bisexual?
Location:
Dalibor Weyr
Rank:
Dragon Candidate
Personality:
In a word Caelin can be described as "passive-aggressive". He doesn't directly start fights or even participate in verbal yelling matches, but instead makes little snide comments under his breath without directly insulting. This is mostly due to the fact that he's not exactly the most confident in himself and his abilities to fight or insult, and he finds it much easier to simply mutter snide little comments and just be sarcastic in general.
He's not very good when cornered and tends to stutter and panic at times. He's very smart and a very quick thinker, but most of the time he can barely turn his confident thoughts into actual sentences, especially when formulating excuses or bluffing. He could think of the best cover up story in his mind and be completely unable to actually say it in a convincing way. Caelin is also rather peace-loving and doesn't really like to fight in the first place, much prefering to take a neutral stance or not get involved at all. He also tends to give in rather easily to those more eccentric and pushy than he is, and he's usually more of a follower than a leader.
Caelin isn't really shy, but he's not the most outgoing person either. He's not afraid to talk to new people or make friends but he's not crazy friendly. He's kind of a loner at heart, and much prefers one really good friend to a lot of acquaintances. He's very used to just going off on his own and entertaining himself.
However, Caelin has a sort of need for attention. He's ignored a lot of the time because his personality is very passive and he doesn't stand out when compared to people with much more vibrant personalities. He has a need to prove himself and his worth to others because he was simply ignored for so long. That's why when a chance to prove himself and "defend" others came up he jumped at the chance, even if he only had a broom to use as defense. But most of the time he's far too clumsy and weak to actually defend anything and usually makes a mess. He also has a need to help others and do absolutely anything he can to help out, but he's not really good at anything.
Due to his, er, relationship with T'el Caelin has developed an odd seizure disorder and is prone to having completely random seizures and flashbacks to his time with the renegades. Since it is not really an actual disorder, it will most likely go away with time.
Appearance:
Caelin is tall and thin, an extremely awkward combination. He's very lanky and clumsy due to his build, and he barely has any muscles at all. He's basically a scrawny wimp. His limbs are proportional to his body, though, so at least he doesn't have the awkwardness of having his arms too long or his legs two different lengths. However, that doesn't make him any less clumsy and unsure on his own feet. He's extremely uncoordinated and tends to trip a lot, most of the time not even over anything.
His hair is a bright, golden blond color and slightly wavy. It doesn't quite reach his neck, but it's close. His bangs are sort of swept off to the side rather than right in front of his eyes, and the hair on the sides is longer. His face shape is very sharp and effeminate, he's quite pretty, for a guy. He's not the type that could be mistaken for a girl, but he is effeminate in his own way. His eyes are a sort of pale blue, not quite as vibrant as they could be or very dark in color. They're a light, pale sky blue.
Caelin's skin is not very tan, though he isn't deathly pale either. His skin is more the type of someone who goes outside a moderate amount and who stays inside a moderate amount and doesn't really care much about his skin. He's relatively blemish and scar free, having never really been an active, worker type of person. His hands are not very caloused and it's obvious that he doesn't really do much physical labor with them.
His choice of clothing is usually something very simple and easy to put on, he doesn't really care much about what he looks like and never really has. He doesn't like to wear a lot of clothing as he finds it uncomfortable and much prefers something lighter and easier. As for colors he doesn't care much either, though lighter blues and whites are usually what fills his wardrobe.

History:
From a young age Caelin was orphaned. His parents were never found and no one ever knew who they were, they could still be alive and just not want him, but he didn't really want to think that way. He was found one day as a baby, wrapped in a blanket and pretty much just dropped at Benden Hold's doorstep. Since then he was raised by the Lord Holder of Benden Hold and his family, though mostly the Lady Holder, really. She took care of him and even named him Caelin.
The other kids treated the young boy as a freak. He was an orphan, really, and the other kids didn't seem to like how he'd just fallen right into the "lap of luxury" as they called it. He never used to go outside for fear that they'd throw rock and other debris at him, though sometimes he would sneak out to go lay in the grass and stare up at the sky or to wander around in the wilderness surrounding the Hold. He always dreamed of somehow escaping and magically being Searched or discovered that he was meant to be a great Dragonrider, but it never happened.
Not that he didn't try, because he did try. Constantly. Every time he heard there was a Searchrider, the young blond would run as fast as he could just for even a glimpse of the dragon. Would it be a Blue? A Green? A Brown? It was usually a Blue, they were generally the best Searchriders, he'd heard. But no matter how hopeful he would get as he waited patiently for the dragon to look him over he was never chosen. More often than not the Searchrider wouldn't chose anyone from Benden and would fly off without finding any Candidates. Caelin had always thought this was somehow his fault, and the other kids did too, and they'd curse and yell at him for ruining their chances.
As Caelin got older the bullies started caring about him less and instead chose a different way to hurt him: they simply ignored him. That hurt him a lot more than just the insults and occassional rocks. He didn't like being ignored. If that came from being abandoned as a child by his real parents or just because he really liked the "attention" they'd given him for years didn't matter, he just hated being ignored. The bullies eventually found this out, and would ignore him even when he came up with a cheerful wave and attempt at friendship. It became a game.
By the time he turned 17, Caelin had enough of the torture he'd had to put up with his entire life and decided to transfer to a Hold that had just opened up, Crescent Hold. It had a nice sounding name and they could probably use someone like him around to help. Not that Caelin was strong or anything other than a lanky, awkward teenager, but his "foster parents", the Lady and Lord Holder, decided that this was the best idea for him. It actually took a while for Caelin to work up the courage to move. Despite the bullies, he liked the Lord and Lady Holder, they had always been nice to him. But after half a year of packing and procrastinating, Caelin finally left for Crescent Hold.
When he actually got there the Hold was already finished building, since it had taken him so long to decide if he was even going or not. But the people at Crescent Hold seemed to like him a bit more, and while he was still ignored, it wasn't deliberate. Apparently he was just very easily overlooked, though he didn't see how it was possible, what with his blond hair and bright blue eyes, something vaguely uncommon on Pern.
Instead of simply allowing himself to fade into the background, Caelin instead tried to find something he was amazing at or just help out all he could. It didn't work very well, as he soon found that he was very clumsy and tended to annoy the people he was trying to help. In his mind, it was only slightly better than being ignored, so he kept at it, figuring he'd find something he was good at eventually. He did find that he was pretty good at cooking, but he tended to drop and knock over hot plates of food a lot. But on a good day, he was a rather good cook.
Caelin gave up on his dream of becoming a Dragonrider, and instead focused on his culinary skills, and by the time he was 19 he was almost ready to be apprenticed. Yeah, just apprenticed, he was that clumsy. ... well, anyway, that obviously never happened. Instead, Caelin had been kidnapped by the Renegades that were destroying the Hold, T'el specifically. He'd tried to be a hero and defeat the intruders himself, but his plan had backfired in a big way. He was taken off on Iron Sjueth to wherever the Renegades happened to make camp and kept there for quite some time. T'el... er, well, "used" Caelin in... many interesting, different ways. Yeah. Basically. ... ask him about it and he might have a seizure.
Anyway, while he stayed with the Renegades (T'el) for a while, eventually he managed to escape with the help of T'el's Iron. After escaping, Caelin was surprisingly Searched by Bronzerider B'rak and Shoth and became a Candidate at Dalibor Weyr. He also most likely developed some sort of freak seizure disorder from his time with T'el, so it's probably best not to bring that up.
