L'am
{Previously: Lyam}
Gender:
Male
Age:
22 turns {Born in Winter}{done for 200}
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Location:
Dalibor Weyr
Rank:
Wingsecond
Personality:
You either love him or you hate him. You can't get enough of him or you can't stand the thought of his existence. Likely you're the later in these two scenarios if you've never met him. People are his element. Not necessarily the joker or the prankster, he happens to be a bit of a socialite just for the image. His motto: You can get what you want if you know everyone you can. And you can't do that if you don't get out there and talk to as many people as possible. From Weyrleaders to drudges, few ever escape at least a minute's conversation with him. It's how he learns about you and how he speculates. Some might find this manipulative. Well, if you think so, then yes. In a sense, he is. He'll give you want you want, for a time. Respect? If that's what you're into. It seems he's a people pleaser, but there are always ulterior motives. About seventy-five percent of the time, he has a perfectly valid reason and it has something to do with getting something he wants in return. The other fifteen percent, pardon the term, is for the lulz. In that sense, he not only gives people what they want, but sometimes, he gives them something that they don't want. And he'll never allow it to be linked to him directly. You're likely to point your finger at someone he convinced to do this or that, and that someone is likely to not know they've been played.
He has an unquenchable appetite to understand how people, systems, places, and things work. The moment he finds a puzzle, he becomes restless until it is solved. This seems to be all the more true when it comes to people. Since he is so gifted with understanding how people tick, he becomes obsessive when he encounters someone that doesn't seem to have a generic definition. He gets the urge to keep meeting up with these sorts and understand them, mentally recording their 'oddities' for future reference. Once he has them all figured out, he discards them easily like they were just another old acquaintance. He has done this with Rhysia in the past, a fellow dragonrider at Dalibor, and she doesn't seem to forgive him for this.
Though he is often in good spirits, capable of being amusing, charming, sophisticated, or down to 'Earth', he is capable of a presence less kosher. He has his demons, as everyone else does, and they like to come out when he's stuck in a particularly bad rut. This is when his control slips, if it ever does, and he starts to work his manipulation skills in a less socially acceptable manner. He will be ultimately be uncomfortable with his actions, but they haven't gotten him into any real trouble in the past and until now they've produced the right results. At this time you can tell that he's often forcing himself to take these drastic measures, but he does so in such a smooth manner that you can't help question exactly how uncomfortable he really is.
Needless to say, he tries to keep himself ahead of the present. He seldom lives in the present and only looks to the past to quickly examine mistakes. He may seem a little insensitive if you ask about his past, so it's best not to. Nothing terrible happened in it or anything, but he hates to live in it. When alone, he tries not to be. Loneliness is his weakness. Too much time left with his thoughts drives him into stress and frustration he cannot easily put away again. He thinks best on the fly.
Relationships? Ha! Waters become too muddy when women are involved. Sure, he's attracted, but he's not looking to settle with anyone. He aspired to be a Candidate and a Dragonrider because of his dismissal of such commitment. Better to befriend a dragon than a human. Though he's as social as he is, he doesn't have any solid friends. Murky water forms there as well. He's got many acquaintances, and that's the best way to keep things.
Other than loneliness as his achiles heel, he does not anger easily unless it's an act and his happiness is nearly as superficial. He's only truly happy when things are going his way. Failures he takes very hard. He only seeks money when he needs it, not for abundance. Lyam forever exists in this energetic survival mode. It's quite rare finding him in a cool down state. Manipulation and fire-starting doesn't exhaust him; it replenishes.
Appearance:
People are often surprised to hear of Lyam's popularity. He's not handsome, not particularly, but it's his charm and charisma that does all the work. He stands at about 5'7'', an average height only augmented by the height of his hair, and weighs about 142lbs.
His skin is actually blotched; not all over however. Only his torso up to his neck to his knees. His full skin tone is on the tan side, less than bronze but still not particularly pale. His blotches are nearly the same color, but just a bit paler. His hair is a dark mahogany color, with curls quite tall; he looks like he has a miniature afro going on. He keeps his face shaven as he started growing facial hair at seventeen. His eyes are sharp and dark in color, rivaling the darkness of his hair, but unmistakably brown. His physique is lean and not muscular. He likes to keep himself fit by staying on the move. Being still too long taxes him.
Family:
Father: Lemrick of Fort Hold, 36 {Deceased}
Mother: Amaris of Fort Hold, 41
Uncle: D'oran of Fort Weyr, 43 and Rider of Blue Amadarith
Pets:
Green Amelia, bonded to L'am (courtesy of Kyril)
Personality:
Amelia is a flitter through and through, in both the literal and figurative sense of the word. She has little skin deep attachment to anything, but it doesn't prevent her from being somewhat concerned or curious about others. She isn't duty-bound and downright loyal to her human like Suede is, but she does like L'am. At least enough to stick around. He seems nice, and sensible, but a little silly sometimes. He's not a terribly boring human to hang around with, so on occasion she does keep him company.
She's rather sensible herself, albeit impatient. If she can't find what she wants right away, she'll look high and low until she finds it. She won't waste a second. Amelia likes Suede, but he seems to do a lot more of the coddling than she does. She tries to avoid him sometimes if he's getting too far into her business. Hardly ever violent or cruel, she will accidentally hurt feelings, but she'll try not to leave a physical scratch.
Appearance:
Amelia is a tiny Green, standing more at a standard height for Pinks rather than that of her own color's. She always carries herself nice and alert, however petite she is. A delicate beauty, this Green's hide starts out a pale green at the head that grows a darker turquoise as it reaches the tip of her tail. On top of that, darker greens speckle her hide.
Blue Suede, bonded to Lyam (courtesy of Jack)
Personality:
Bold for a Blue, this guy knows he looks good. Far from conceited, however, he is merely confident, and backs down to no one. He is extremely loyal and oddly insightful for a flit, and finds that the best medicine in the world is given by those that know best. And if he doesn't know best? Well he'll go find who knows best and demand they fix the problem!
This tiny fellow knows what he wants, and will do what it takes to get it. While he is an emotional rock for just about anyone, he tends to be partial to one person at a time, but doesn't really care who that is. Even if he is not bonded to a particular person, if he finds them interesting he will stick by their side...at least until his one and only needs him. Then he's off like a blue rocket, leaving nothing but the impression of his girth in his wake.
Appearance:
A very pretty, sky blue, this guy is all looks. He's built squarely, with a wider jaw than most blues and a solid look to him, but evenly as well. His legs are fairly long, as is his neck and tail, and his wings are nicely proportioned. His hide is mostly solid, although it is darker upon his spine and paler upon his belly, and there are a few dark blue splotches on the top of his muzzle leading all the way to the tip of his tail.
History:
Lyam was born in Fort Hold. His parents have been at Fort Hold since before his birth going back a couple of generations, as far as they know.
Lyam's parents never seemed to have time for their son, only because they have rather tedious tasks to fulfill at Fort Hold. Nearly drudges, they work non-stop as financial and economic advisors. You know what you hear about couples that should never share the same job in the same place? That actually doesn't hold true for these two. Lemrick and Amaris do have their disagreements, but every night at their house is a debate.
At first, Lyam hated it. Hated it so much that it drove him crazy to sit at dinner with them. As of five, when he first got his social legs, he was out and playing with other kids of the Hold, socializing, making friendships, enemies, and leading groups of children into danger as a young troublemaker. Parents of other Hold children complained much to Lyam's parents, but Lemrick and Amaris defended him rather than punished him. Of course, they'd give him a short talk afterwards (nothing that really stuck with him) but they would create such elaborate arguments in his defense that other parents would be left speechless.
As he grew older, miraculously not having lead any child to his or her death yet, he was starting to become attracted to the talks between his mother and father. Lyam even grew mildly interested, though numbers weren't his cup of tea. He simply used their arguments as a base for eloquency. Since education for kids at the Hold was only average with little perks for non-Holder children with gifts for knowledge and talent, Lyam had to pick up a lot from osmosis. This was starting to occur when he was just fourteen turns.
Why hadn't he been picked up by scouts sooner? Lyam was always unluckily absent during every Search. It wasn't entirely unlucky. Searches did happen whenever so he couldn't time them for interception, despite the ear he kept open for Clutches. He also was out and about running errands outside the Hold for his and their own good so often that he would always just miss the Search. Other peers joked about it, he'd laugh about it too, but on the inside he'd seethe. Out there was another world for him to understand. Hold life became so simple so fast, despite all that was to be done. It became boring. He knew everyone and everything inside and out, and no matter how much he gained with his silver tongue, he always felt he was missing something. A new setting. A new life. Oh, he knew what he wanted. To ride on the back of a dragon. To understand them, and how they work. Obviously more complex than people and politics.
His uncle turned him onto it. One Search, when he was just one year too young than what the Searchers were looking for, he managed to make an appearance. Lyam's father was always a little jealous of D'oran, but once the Bluerider made his appearance, that jealousy would be flung aside like an old rag. Everyone liked D'oran, but none like Lyam. If ever he had a role model, it was certainly D'oran. D'oran was like an older Lyam, but with a little more finesse. Lemrick's brother was Searched when he was 15 turns and Impressed at his very first Impression. Because of this, it was believed that Lyam could possibly do the very same. Lyam only gave it serious thought when he was 16 turns, but before then he was already imagining himself riding a soaring dragon through the skies of Pern.
At 17 turns, he was a Candidate for the next hatching, or rather Kalith's second clutch and Nikianeth's first. He was Searched that turn by Dalibor Weyr, which is odd due to the location within Fort territory. The reach of this Search was not quite explained (seriously, I don't want to make up something that didn't or wouldn't happen considering that I haven't read these books for five or six years). After spending a couple of seasons in Dalibor he would find himself on the Sands for that fateful Hatching, where he Impressed Bronze Lebeth.

Dragon Name:
Lebeth
Dragon Age:
5 Turns
Dragon Color:
Bronze
Dragon Length:
About 46 ft.
Dragon Personality:
On the Sands, he was described to bear an air of dignity, as well as cheerfulness. He was also described as thoroughly oblivious, and likely doomed to be for the rest of his years.
Well, all of those things will hold true. The constants will remain, as he is cheerful and quite the gentlemen; hard to anger and practically clueless to those who may or may not mean him any harm or threat. He sees the world in a rose-tinted way as he is practically lost in good humor. Still, he can focus though it seems drearily impossible to get him to do so. Instead of being stupidly oblivious, he suffers from 'tunnel-vision', once you can get him interested in something of course. Only one thing can be on his mind at a time and whatever it may be isn't necessarily the most important thing that it should be. He's very loving, especially to his rider. Though he is generally a peaceful and well spirited dragon, he would defend L'am with his life should the need arise. His just seems amazingly talented at avoiding that level of trouble.
At his young age, he is no romantic, but he certainly is charming. Overall, he is a mild-mannered youngster with a big heart and a bright disposition, but an utter head case at the same time. Consider him as a sort of young member of the gentry; he has class, but he is unaware of the gravity his rank will have on his life at his age. He isn't likely to fully grasp it until well past maturity.
Now at the age of supposed maturity, Lebeth hasn't changed much from his one turn mark. He's just large and young at heart, as he has always been. He will not be chasing until he is older. He is pretty intelligent however. L'am has assisted the Bronze in his practice of self-control. Now Lebeth will not talk to other people unless his rider gives him the O.K. and he will not get himself into trouble fueled by curiosity. Instead, he is prone now to asking lots of questions. Either he will ask them of L'am or another dragon.
Dragon Appearance:
Now fully grown, Lebeth is a rather stunning creature to behold. He is well-proportioned and decently sized for his color, nearly stretching the top length for the average Bronze. His ridges are a little smoother and his flesh is not all that tough; he doesn't seem to be as well built for fighting as the typical Bronze might. It doesn't seem to matter with this fellow however. Since he doesn't have a violent bone in his body, all this is simply natural.
As for his hide, it is a light bronze color--brown with a hint of green and with, of course, metallic sheen in the light. He is littered with darker brown spots and lighter, cream-colored ones, as if endowed with a range of bronze hues than simply one. His light bronze color however, remains the most dominant.
Dragon History:
Born from the largest egg in Copper Kalith's second clutch, he came into this world on our January 18th, 2010. In Pern time, that is around the Summer, in the 196th Turn, in the 10th Interval. Since then his life has been relatively quiet. Born on the night of a Renegade battle, he was hardly effected by the aftermath in any permanent sort of manner. It put little in perspective for him. He tried his hardest not to pay too much attention to it for the sake of his own levity. Later, when he was still just learning how to glide, he had managed to climb up to a high spot and needed help coming down. A creature of such a gentle nature like his did not have too much pride in asking for help. Lebeth was and still is a bit of a sweetheart for a Bronzeling.
When he had finally gotten around to growing up, he still was not all grown up in the head, which was giving L'am the impression that his dragon wouldn't chase at the age that his sort usually chase. Lebeth still lives an awful lot like an overgrown child, but he is smart and he is kind. The two are now in a Wingsecond sort of position, so it will take whatever Lebeth has got and perhaps make him into a litte more of a mature sort.
