Name: Remiel [R'miel]
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Location: Dalibor Weyr
Rank: Wingsecond, Midnight Wing
Personality:
Remiel is a rather emotional young man - not in the weepy or over-sensitive sense, but in that his mood is apt to change given almost any provocation. He feels things intensely, and rarely tries to reign in his emotions. Prone to brooding and melodrama, he’s easily offended but easily forgives. He’s clever, perhaps too much so for his own good, and he resents most forms of authority. He has quite the flair for drama, although most of the time it’s simply for effect; a device he employs to make people smile. Like his brother, he loves to see people smile.
With Remiel, it’s all about appearances; he acts tough and important, like he doesn’t care a single solitary bit what other people think of him. And while he is a good actor, most of this is far removed from the truth.
Remy does indeed care a great deal about what others think, and he’s constantly seeking approval. He lacks self-confidence (it doesn’t help that he’s been a Candidate since age twelve, and has yet to Impress), but works hard to put up that brash and self-assured front. He wants to feel like he fits in (never mind that for the most part he does fit in, he just has a difficult time seeing it), and more than anything he wants to feel important. He’s quite ambitious, but only in that he seeks a sense of significance and respect – power is irrelevant. If he had any specific job or role to play, he is confident he would work diligently to be the best in his field; as it is, however, he has dabbled in many crafts (harpering and tanning, to name a few), but in a way his dream of being a rider has sabotaged him. When he could have excelled in any of these chosen areas, he was always reluctant to devote himself to a craft, as if opening up other options would sabotage his chances at Impression.
Born and raised in the Weyr, he nevertheless still searches for a niche; a stable role that he can fit into, and be recognized for. As a Candidate, and one of the oldest around, he is plagued by feelings of worthlessness and insecurity, and worries endlessly about his future. He has suspected for some time now that he may never Impress at all and, weyrbrat that he is, he’s reluctant to contemplate a future that, Faranth forbid, might even take him out of Dalibor.
His tough-guy act has resulted in a few fights in the past, but he’s older now and (a bit) wiser, and his hormones are just about back in control. Despite his confrontational tendencies and competitive nature, Remy is, at heart, a nice guy; his brother S’rial has spent years instilling him with traditional values and, while he doesn’t adhere to them nearly as strictly as his brother, he certainly has a functioning moral compass that he tries to abide by. Still, he has a particularly weak spot for lying; he loves spinning wild and improbable tales for strangers, and more often than not they believe him.
If you can get past his brooding nature and his feelings of insecurity, you may be rewarded with his more charming side. For the ladies that hold a special place in his heart (not necessarily the ones he flirts with), he reserves a fondness for sweet gestures. He can be quite the romantic, once he’s comfortable with a given girl. And that’s no easy feat, either; while flirting is another tactic he uses to disguise his self-doubt, the prospect of a real relationship is something he typically runs from.
Remiel is still struggling for a sense of identity, despite his eighteen years of age. His personality is almost ‘on hold’; he has a lot of potential, but he’s held back by insecurities – mostly about his future. He firmly believes that Impressing a dragon would make all the difference, and would earn him the respect he desires. Whether or not this is true, it’s the excuse he holds on to. Most of his problems are, in reality, imagined; they stem from his insecurities.
Appearance:
Remiel stands at just under six foot and has a lean, athletic frame. Not heavily muscled, he's nevertheless physically fit; had he not been Weyr-born, he might have made a decent runner. He tends to slouch, though, which diminishes his height some, and he's fairly narrow-shouldered.
He's pale, but smooth-complexioned and devoid of freckles. His hair is pin-straight and a light, dusty brown that looks almost blond in direct sunlight. He keeps it cut fairly short, about around his ears, and it rarely requires much maintenance. He keeps himself well-groomed, though he doesn't obsess about his appearance; he simply puts stock in looking presentable.
His eyes are dark brown and he has soft, well-balanced features. He’s generally considered handsome, but isn’t stunning or eye-catching. Though he’s long grown out of any pre-teen gangly-ness, he’s still fairly long-limbed.
Family:
Soran: Father: Blue Rider (Ista Weyr)
Mirial: Mother: Cook (Ista Weyr)
S'rial: Brother: Rider of Brown Duareth
Pets:
None
History:
Born and raised in Ista Weyr, Remiel was always tagging after his brother, S’rial, despite the eight-year age gap. He was a quiet boy, and started out as a natural follower; after his brother Impressed, though, and became busy with rider responsibilities, he became something of an independent. He had few friends, though he was quite close with all of them, and he tended to be an unpredictable and troublesome child. He often came to blows with other boys, for percieved insults or agression, but there were rarely any lasting grudges - some of them even grew to be hsi friends later on.
When his brother was assigned to Dalibor Weyr at its founding, Remiel was deemed his responsibility, and was obligated to transfer, as well. However, Remiel took the transfer much harder than his brother; slow to make friends, he was leaving behind the few he did have at Ista, and as a result it took him a long time to settle in at Dalibor. He still refers to Ista as his ‘home’ Weyr, though he has long since overcome the resentment he felt at first for his new home. These days, he rather enjoys living at Dalibor - after all, it's almost as nice as Ista.
At Dalibor, he has stood for Kalith and Alizadehth’s Hatchings, though he participated in many others at Ista. Much to his dismay, he has yet to Impress, and it won’t be long before he outgrows Candidacy altogether.
