Name:
O'hu
Gender:
Male
Age:
17
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Location:
Dalibor Weyr
Rank:
Rider
Personality:
O'hu is quite a reserved young man. Around others his age, he can be very quiet. Conversation can be difficult, whether it's starting one with a new person or keeping one up. There are some people who think him slow because he sometimes fails to respond or takes a bit of time to find the right word. In reality, O'hu is actually pretty observant because he isn't much of a talker. Instead, he listens. Often times, O'hu will know more on a subject than he lets on to know. Though it is hard for him to make friends, but after he becomes comfortable around someone he becomes quite a bit more personable.
This young man is one who has low self-esteem. He was always being needled by his older sisters, the reason he grew up to be hesitant and nervous. O'hu doesn't often try new things. He doesn't go searching for praise, though reassurances are always welcome. That gives him more confidence in his work. Voicing his opinion is not something O'hu does often as he assumes that other people are more knowledgeable on the subject than he is, which is not always correct. Self-assuredness is definitely not something he shows like other young men his age.
O'hu, being open to criticism because of his low self-esteem, is a quick learner. He is definitely willing to listen to those who are more knowledgeable than he is. His withdrawn nature helps him to be more serious and focused than the other boys that are his age. O'hu takes some coaxing from others to open up and have a little fun. He always sees the best in people and will try to justify their actions through their perspective, rather than his own.
Appearance:
In terms of appearance, O'hu is quite average looking. He stands at 5' 11" tall with an average build. He weighs 162 lbs. The proportions of his arms and legs are normal with the size of his torso. His gait is a smooth and even one. His calves are scrawny, which is something many men suffer. They could be described as chicken legs. He isn't in the best of shape, but the rest of his body does have some tone to it.
O'hu has a childish face that he never will outgrow. He has dimples that flash at the smallest of smiles. His lips are full, but not really shapely. He has no facial hair, and not the slightest hint of any growing. O'hu's chin and jaw are noticeable, but definitely not prominent. His eyes are a blue that is almost a gray in color and are deep-set. He has very curly brown hair, curly enough to form ringlets on his head. He never lets his hair grow to be too long. He has thin eyebrows that are a lighter color than his hair and average length eyelashes.
O'hu dresses for everyday activities, not anything fancy. Simple clothes are what he likes. Clothes that are comfortable to do chores and lessons in. He does, however, have a nice outfit that he can wear for the more formal occasions such as Gathers. He refuses to get rid of his near falling apart shoes because they are the most comfortable pair he owns. He doesn't have any freckles or birthmarks, but he does have a few scars from his childhood.

Tumbles over and over, not quite rolling but tumbling places as though he is the ocean crashing upon the shore. Once he has reached his destination, he will lie there on the ground, head close to the ground and then retreat backwards with ‘crshh’-ing noises. He likes to be moving and often attempts to catch things up in his tumbling. That said he also likes rushing over large things and climbing them until he reaches the other side and then scuttles backwards. Fascinated by rocks, seaweed, plants, shells, twigs and everything all of which can become entangled in his shell.
Noise: "Crshhh Crshhh"
History:
Thuuer, Owethu's father, grew up in Crom Hold who apprenticed as a Miner. At twenty-three turns, he became a Journeyman. His first station was at Ista Hold, where he met Oweell, Owethu's mother. Oweell was the only surviving daughter of a sailor. Her mother lived until she was seven turns old. Her father encouraged her love of the sea. Oweell knew she would grow up to be a sailor.
Thuuer was walking down by the docks one day when he heard a man shout. He followed the man's gaze to see a woman who was precariously perched high in the rigging. The woman laughed and cheekily saluted the man before she kicked her shoes off. The sea wind whipped her dark curls around her face. For Thuuer, it was love at first sight. Oweell needed a bit more convincing, though.
Eventually, there was mutual feelings between the two and they began their life together. The two were twenty-five turns old when they had their first child, a girl they named Eller. Wethu, their next daughter, came a little over a Turn later. Thuuer was away often, as he was pursuing his Master rank of the Minercraft. Though he tried to stay home as often as he could so that Oweell could continue sailing. While the girls were young, Oweell had to give up her sailing to take care of them. But when Eller turned five turns old, the girls were left with friends and family as Oweell went sailing more often. Thuuer, though he hoped that having the children around would get Oweell to stay home more, but he would never try to stop her from sailing.
There were no plans to have more children from either Oweell or Thuuer, yet when they were thirty-four turns old, Oweell found out she was pregnant for a third time. A nine turn old Eller and eight turn old Wethu were not quite sure how to feel about a younger sibling after it being only them for so long. Owethu, born a happy and healthy baby, was looked after mainly by Eller. This was due to Thuuer finally achieving his Master rank in the Mining craft and Oweell joining the crew of a prospering fishing vessel.
Eller resented having to look after her baby brother as a child, even though she was a good girl. The fact that Wethu and Eller were closer in age than Eller and Owethu did not help. The girls used to gang up on him to tease him. They would tell him scary stories and put his favorite snacks out of his reach. He was often teased for his appearance and pushed around by his sisters, as well. Owethu cried a lot as a child, and his sister would always tell him that he should stop being such a crybaby. Though Eller would never do any physical harm to her brother. She would always make sure he was fed, had clean clothes, and was put to bed.
When he was younger, Owethu did not like his sisters very much. Though, as he grew older, he did grow closer to his sisters. Especially to Eller. He was able to defend himself from their taunting due to him being more comfortable around them. He also managed to get some revenge for a few grudges he held since his childhood. Eventually, the three siblings grew out of the rivalry phase and were able to be civil, even friendly, towards each other. Eller still refers to him as her "baby boy", much to his chagrin.
As Eller and Wethu entered adolescents, the family went through many changes. Wethu apprenticed in the Beastcraft Hall when she was twelve turns old. Eller, having little interest in going into a craft, stayed home to take care of Owethu. Five turns after Owethu was born, a new Hold was founded on the Western Continent. Due to the opportunities for the fishing vessels, Oweell wanted to move to the new Hold. Thuuer was happy to do this, as there was always a need for new Masters at new Holds. So the rest of family moved to Crescent Hold, with the exception of Wethu.
Owethu spent less time with Eller as he got older, and spent more time with his friends. Eller began to look after the other children of the Hold now that Owethu was older. He grew up with two close friends. Playing games around the Hold and sneaking snacks from the kitchens were how Owethu and his friends spent most of their time. He was quite a bit more outgoing when he was with his friends, and they had mountains of fun together. His friends would talk about how they wanted to apprentice in the same craft as their fathers, the Fishercraft. Owethu did not have the same feelings. He had been sailing with his mother, and did enjoy it. Though he could not see himself following that path, or going down the Minercraft apprenticeship.
Owethu really had little idea what he wanted to do. That is, until he heard from his father that one of his cousins had been Searched by a rider from Benden and Impressed a Bronze. So he began harboring a secret hope that a rider would come and Search him. He could not think of anything better than riding on a dragon. Though, he began to realize that he would need a backup plan as there was no signs of him being Searched. His friends had apprenticed in the Fishercraft and his sister had married, so Owethu was alone most of the time. Wethu had earned her rank as journeyman in the Beastcraft. When Owethu was fifteen turns old, he decided that he would work the fields. Though, that didn't really pan out as something unexpected happened. A Search dragon came to Crescent and picked him to be a Candidate for Dalibor Weyr. There was no question that Owethu would accept, because this was what he was secretly hoping for.
Owethu had only to attend one Hatching for him to Impress. Everyone had thought the Brown dead, but Owethu was quite glad he was anything but. Agrippith, out of grief for the dragonet that everyone thought didn't make it, had started to crush the egg. She stopped after her rider heard signs of life in the last egg. The Orange abruptly pulled out of crushing the egg and encouraged the dragonet inside to break free on his own. Owethu, then O'hu, heard the call of the Brown desperate to get out of his shell. He rushed to Polyth's side to help get him out. Once by the Brown's side, O'hu assured his bonded that he would never leave him.
O'hu then began to tear at the thick shell the Brown was stuck in. He got some cuts from the sharp edges of the shell, but he didn't care much. He had to help his Polyth. As soon as he had gotten a big enough hole in the shell, O'hu had reached in there to get Polyth out. He carried the Brown over to the feeding table and grabbed some food for him. He honestly couldn't think of living without the Brown.
Shortly after Weyrlinghood began, the plague hit and the Weyrlings were quarantined. O'hu was actually glad for it, slightly. Though he was worried about the plague. Lots of people were dying from this disease, and he didn't know what to do. Luckily he had Polyth to help him through it.
Polyth, throughout Weyrlinghood, was very sick. O'hu worried over his dragon. Their passage through Weyrlinghood was only possible due to the extra lessons. O'hu rarely left the Brown's side as the two went through Weyrlinghood. O'hu was always worried about Polyth, with him being sick so much. This helped the pair grow closer to each other. The two of them were able to better communicate with each other and Polyth was able to grow stronger, with O'hu's help.
After the plague died down, the Unmith Hatching happened. He and Polyth attended to see the events unfold. He saw all of the craziness unfold. It was very different from the Hatching Polyth came from. Candidates punching eggs, punching dragonets. He was baffled as to why they would do this. These events made him even more happy that he had Polyth.
Jarith's Hatching was so much calmer compared to Unmith. The next big Hatching was a double Hatching between Couineth and Minanth. It started out alright, but then got insane as an Iron mauled many of the male Candidates and Couineth was shown to be hiding an egg. He didn't understand why the Gold would hide an egg, didn't understand it at all. He also didn't understand why the Iron was as mad as he was. When the Red attacked the boy, it was very sad. The new Ironrider, as the Iron Impressed the boy the Red attacked, was killed. Though there were many new Hatchlings on the Sands, so there was probably going to be something bad happening. Though the rest of the Hatching went smoother, that part still made him shudder. He braced for the next big event that came their way.
That next big event was the poisoning of the herdbeasts. He worried over Polyth until the Brown gave him reassurances that he did not eat the herdbeasts. This calmed O'hu down a bit. But he wondered, just as his dragon did, who would want to do something like this to the Weyr. Then a group of Holdless were discovered. He was wary of them, but he didn't think they had anything to do with the poisoning of the herdbeasts.
Dragon Name:
Polyth
Dragon Age:
2 (Hatched Autum 3rd turn)
Dragon Color:
Brown {702E05}
Dragon Length:
38
Dragon Personality:
Polyth does not feel as close to his siblings as they abandoned him, but he still respects them. He does enjoy a good story, like Taceuth. Though, unlike his Blue brother, he tries to discover the whole truth as best he can. He may feel like an outsider being forced to become a part of the crowd for a long while. This is what inspires his interest in Weyrs outside of Dalibor. He will more than likely grow comfortable with his siblings and other dragons when he's an adult. If given the chance, he would enjoy travelling around Pern. Though he would not enjoy transferring from Dalibor, no matter how bad the circumstances got for him.
If a dragon gives him orders, Polyth is likely to obey them. Unless O'hu convinces him that he is in the right, which can be rather difficult. Polyth could more than likely be found with Taceuth making their histories of Dalibor, even though he doesn't feel at home with his brother. This Brown is a fan of investigation, and will often convince Taceuth to investigate as well. He holds a deep reverence for O'hu, he feels that his rider is the one who freed him from enslavement. The entrapment of the egg being the enslavement, when everyone thought he was dead before he'd even hatched. He adores O'hu with all he can, as he knows had there been no one left on the Sands, he very well would have died. He will look out for leadership, no matter what position they hold (Weyrleader, Wingleader, Wingsecond, Weyrlingmaster, Candidatemaster, or Alphahandler) and ask them about what they do. He loves to know everything about what they do, but he will always be careful he doesn't overstep his bounds.
Polyth feels very close to O'hu. O'hu was the only one who didn't abandon him at the Hatching where he hatched and didn't leave him during Weyrlinghood when he was sick. Because of this, he wants to help His do his best even more than anything. He fears being abandoned by His, and often wonders if His will leave him. In the back of his mind, he knows this is not true. But the scare of his Hatching with everyone leaving is still with him. Polyth never wants his O'hu to leave him like everyone else did.
Dragon Appearance:
Polyth's hide is a deep, rich, ochre brown. He has a bit of a reddish hue. As any other dragon, he is proud of his hide. He looks for any similarities between his hide and his surroundings. His nose and edges of his wings have white patches on them. This is due to the time that Polyth was stuck in his egg for. Polyth is not the strongest of Browns, he is smaller than the average Brown and at his hatching, looked sickly. With proper love and guidance, this will change. He will grow to have suitable strength, but is definitely smaller than the average Brown.
Dragon History:
Polyth was born last of seven of Agrippith's Clutch. Everyone had assumed his egg was a dud. The Orange had started to crush his egg with grief before her rider informed her she heard signs of life inside the shell. This got the Orange to stop crushing his egg immediately and give encouragement to the dragonet inside the egg. Polyth worked as hard as he could and eventually got a small hole in his shell. He was able to get his head and one leg out of the shell, but couldn't get himself out any further because he was exhausted.
Soon after his head popped out of his shell, he Impressed O'hu so that His could help him get out of the shell. His came rushing over to help, and he tried to help. His O'hu was able to get him out of his egg and get him some food. His promised not to leave him, and he promised not to leave His. That's how Weyrlinghood began.
Polyth was very sick for most of his Weyrlinghood. But his almost never left him. But His had to eat and do other very important things as well. The pair had to get extra lessons so that they could graduate with the rest of the Stormsingers class. Polyth didn't mind as long as he had His to help him. And that was all the Brown needed.
The pair attended the double Hatching of the twin tans. Polyth didn't remember his Hatching being as unruly as the Unmith Hatching. But he did hatch last out of his siblings. He was happy each time a hatchling broke his or her egg. There was one point where he wanted to get on the Sands himself, but His reminded him that Waroth told everyone not to step out of line. The Hatching went on more smoothly from there. All of the hatchlings Impressed the person who was Theirs. After the Hatching, he and His returned to their weyrs.
The next time the pair went out for a major event was Jarith's Hatching. This Hatching was a lot less unruly. There were five eggs, each of which hatched and Impressed to Theirs. Though they did not seem to be the right size for their colors. There were some that were large and some that were small for their colors. He didn't know this until His told him though.
Then came their graduation from Weyrlinghood. This was only made possible by having the extra lessons with their Weyrlingmaster. For this, Polyth was grateful. How could he help his be his best if they were still in Weyrlinghood? There was just so much more he could do now that they were wingriders.
Couineth and Minanth's Hatching came and it was quite the eventful hatching. There were so many hatchlings. An Iron, though he passed between as the Red attacked His. There was even a Copper! Though her egg was hidden for reasons Polyth couldn't understand. The Iron had gone on a rampage before he went between, which left some of the other dragonets gone between as well. He was sad for the little dragonets that didn't make it, but happy for those that did.
The poisoned herdbeasts troubled him so much. The fact that Copper Kalith was killed by them even more so. He didn't believe that anyone would want to hurt, let alone kill, any dragon. Though several were killed by the poisoned herdbeasts. He had received the warning, so he did not eat the herdbeasts. But he wanted to know who did it just as much as any other person or dragon.
