As we approach the majestic flight and run of Callistath and Kalesk and the clutchings that are sure to follow, we would like to clarify the inner workings of a dragon/wher double hatching, a rare and madcap event.
OOCly, you will only Impress what you have asked to Impress. If your character is a dragon candidate, they will only be considered for dragons, and vice versa.
ICly, there is no way to differentiate between types of candidates with two clutches due to hatch at the same time. All dragon candidates will be warned that they could be Impressed by a wher; many wher candidates (those who are of dragon candidate age or in their early 20s, and without significant physical damage) will likewise be warned that they could Impress a dragon, even if they have never been searched. Once the clutches have been laid and the Weyr realises what is likely to happen, there will be a candidate lesson posted to clarify these things to all candidates.
What does this mean for you, as a player? As many of you already know, we have a number of "secret" dual candidates, which refers to a character who believes they are standing for only one species, but who has been OOCly made available to both. WE LOVE ALL OF THIS, but as we get closer to the hatching and begin to consider and make matches, it is vital that we all be on the same page about who is standing for what. It is also incredibly helpful to know for sure if the candidate is deliberately a dual candidate, or if they have been thrown to the wolves for plot purposes.
Thus, please make sure that your candidates are appropriately labeled in the "Rank" section of their profile. "Official dragon candidate, secret wher candidate" would refer, for example, to a character who has been searched and is not a dual candidate, but who can be considered by staff/myself for whers as well as dragons. "Dual candidate" means the candidate made the deliberate choice to stand for both. It is entirely possible some candidates will change their minds as a result of the news, coming out next season, that there is to be a dragon/wher hatching, and that's cool too! It is also entirely possible that you will change your mind at any time, and that is also awesome! There is no deadline for deciding what species you want your character to stand for, although the earlier, the better.
For entertainment purposes, as always, we do allow for these preferences to be private! If you don't want other players to know you have a secret dual candidate, you can PM the necessary information to me.
