Name: Orkia
Gender: Female
Age: 17 turns(b. Fall, 188 Turn, 10th Interval)
Sexuality: Bisexual
Location:Dalibor, formally of Benden Weyr
Rank: Dual Candidate
Personality:
Orkia has been described as nine people worth of stubborn wrapped up in one tiny little frame. That tends to end in a fight when she hears it, but it is a bit of an apt description. Once she had set herself into place, she does not want to move from it. That can lead to all sorts of 'enjoyable' situations for the people around her, though she had gotten somewhat better over the years. More willing to at least pretend to listen to reason. Though that may be so she can get close enough to strike now and then. For the most part, though she's at least -grudgingly- willing to listen to reason. This is mostly due to her brother, and it's taken years, but she's willing to at least listen now.
Even with her size, she has always been a little bundle of spitfire and aggression, especially when it comes to protecting her family. Controlling her temper has gotten easier over the years, especially as she has started to work towards standing for wher as well as dragons. That goal has done more for her temper than anything else, and she is trying hard to keep it that way. Even when she wants to punch someone in the face.
When she's not gearing up for a fight, either physical or verbal, Orkia is a tiny bit of a cocky punk. She is sure that she knows best, and she isn't an a fool, she is just a little quick to jump to a conclusion. Luck is her friend, and she will keep going with it until it runs out.
Appearance:
Short. That is the first impression one has of Orkia. And she -hates- it, so she swaggers and struts as best she can to try to to make up for it. It sometimes works, but that's a lot of swagger to make up for a 4'10" height. There is little weight on her frame, and she is sometimes mistaken for a boy. With brown hair that bleaches out blondish in the summer, Orkia keeps it hacked off short, irritated when it gets too long and in her face. That does not help the mistaken gender sometimes, but she really doesn't care one way or another. She is doomed to be short and skinny, and she's accepted that. If someone makes an issue of it, though, there might be a punch to the nose.
Tending towards layers, if only to bulk out her size some, Orkia doesn't really get cold. She prefers that, given she is so thin normally that she chills easily.
Family:
Mother: Kiariake
Father: R'orja(deceased)
Brother(younger): Kiaja
Aunt: Riaki
Pets:
None
History:
Born in the fall of turn 188, during the end of the 10th Intervel, Orkia is the result of a flight, not something uncommon in the weyr. Her mother was Kiariake, a baker in the Benden Weyr, who had a relationship that was on again, off again with the rider R'orja of black Tilgath. This resulted in two children over the turns, Orkia and her younger brother, Kiaja. The pair spent their time split between the creche and their mother, depending on how busy things were, and how much was going on. Their father did make the time to visit them, taking them flying on Tilgath or on some trip or another to another Weyr. He did seem to enjoy spending time with them, part of the reason that he and Kiariake kept getting back together.
It was a rather carefree childhood for Orkia, for the most part. The only time she really had issues was when someone started to pick on her baby brother. Kiaja. He grew up the opposite of her, large and shy, who rarely spoke due to an issue with stuttering. It always got worse when he was nervous, which lead to a spiral of being too nervous to speak, and stuttering when he did talk. That lead to a lot of teasing, and a very aggressively protective big sister. It didn't matter if her brother is a foot taller than her and probably outweighs her twice over, he's her baby brother, and woe be onto them if she catches someone teasing him.
That lead to a few issues, but given they were children, it was mostly talked out and there were a lot of sitting in corners to think. Not that it helped, but Orkia did get better at not punching people in the face. Mostly.
When she turned ten, she really started to help her mother out, though she -hated- the kitchens. They were hot and smelled like food, which just made her hungry. But her mother was so insistent that Orkia muttered a lot, but went along. Kiaja was going to stand for dragons, and could hardly wait for that to happen. Orkia had thought about it, but she wasn't sure if she really wanted to ride a dragon. Sure, they were amazing and all, but she saw how a dragon had taken over her father's life, and she wasn't sure if she could deal with something like that. Besides, she did love her mother, and she wanted to see what there was besides being a rider.
That is how Orkia's life went along. She helped in the kitchens, made some friends, who were are rough and tumble as her. They all punched each other a lot, and laughed even more. There was some talk about how crazy they were, but the little gang was, in general, good kids, and didn't tolerate people disrespecting each other. Kiaja did hang around them some, but he was the big quiet kid of the group.
Then Thread came. And R'orja died.
That hit the family hard, none of them expecting it. He had died doing his duty, but it still hurt to realize that he was not coming home again. That made Orkia even more aggressive at times, and she and her mother started to argue about if Orkia could stand. Technically, she was weyrborn, her father a rider, and she has as much right as her brother. The fact that her mother did not want either of her children to be riders didn't matter. If Kiaja was going to be one, then Orkia was going to be there as well to make sure someone covered his back. She had not been sure before, and was willing to wait to find out what worked for her, but not any more. She was going to be a rider, no matter what her mother said.
The family went through something of a cold spot when Orkia started to stand. Her brother wasn't old enough yet, but she was going to be there, ready and waiting when he did get there. It took three years, but he joined her as well.
Four years passed as the pair stood, and Orkia was starting to worry that she wouldn't Impress and be able to watch her brother. So once she was old enough, she went to speak to the Alphahandler and was accepted to the program in Benden.
Then her aunt Riaki sent a message to Kiariake, asking for her to come to Dalibor. Riaki was preganant, and wished for her sister to come help with it. Things were quickly set up, and the family found themselves moving to Dalibor. Once there, Orkia worked on getting set back up to stand for both dragons and whers, determined that she was going to be there with her brother, no matter what. Now she has to settle into a new home, and isn't sure how she feels about going back to basics and trying to make new friends. So she's trying, though she is aware that it is not likely to be easy.
Dragon Preference:
No preference, though the idea of the tiny girl with a giant wher makes me laugh like a loon. Mauling is perfectly all right, feel free to chew her up, though preferably no killing.
