Oosh is still in the approvals/drafting stage, but I was watching a movie this afternoon and got an idea and had one of those, I-need-to-go-write-this-or-I-won't-be-able-to-sleep moments so HERE WE ARE.

WHAT IF.

An extremely determined Harper, in an effort to get the dear widdle weyrbrats more engaged in their lessons (which, if I am interpreting the weyrbrat histories right, are scarcely attended by our PC bunch anyway!) decided on a funny idea. Maybe they thought it would cheer the Weyr up. Or be a distraction. Or a change. Or just thought the little wher costumes were so cute they should have a reason to wear them where everyone could see. I DON'T KNOW. THE POINT IS that this poor doomed determined Harper could decide that in addition to learning their Sagas and Ballads...they would act out the stories.

AKA A SCHOOL PLAY. ONLY PERNIFIED.

And of course, because it's Dali, if this happens, it should go spectacularly awry. Like, broken scenery and people end up crying on stage and torn wher costumes awry. Even if Oosh isn't approved I feel like this should happen.

Quince will totally break in during the middle of a song and have a long,honking Solo. Kidanyr trips on her robes, knocking down others in the process. Quinzel throws a mighty fit on stage because everyone is OBVIOUSLY making fun of her. Disk attends and panics because babies are being hurt and crying and oh goodness she must gather them all up and give them HUGS.

This has so much potential for chaos.

G'lin will be forced by Anablimyth and Doom to help in the making of costumes. He may try and enlist the twins since they're also weavers or were and there is no sharding way he's making those all by himself.

Maelie will attend and make sure everyone has cake or bubbly pies. Bubbly will be absolutely terrified of all the "whers" and will NOT come out from under her hair. Ever again.

QUELLYN IS SO THERE.

he isn't a weyrbrat but omg he wants to help so much.

He will be the bestest best narrator ever and start going off about different stories in the middle of the one that they are doing, causing utter confusion and nonlinear story lines.

Akklyn is going to be in this play. ":c DID SOMEBODY SAY TEAMWORK." And then she'll just grump in the middle of the chaos about how she said it was a bad idea fiiirst.

Obviously Aypoth will be watching this most glorious combination of two of her favorite things and singing along until/if stuff goes wrong and she forms a Weyrbrat Rescue Team with Disk to SAVE THE BABIES

Actually Naanell is constantly in the creche caring for the young ones... It's written into her history and there have been a number of threads there. Instrument crafting for kids and playing those instruments is kind of her area of expertise.

So naturally she would be involved.

If he gets to wear a Wher costume then Aydan is in! There might be an epic tantrum. And Shardit might attack people. Good luck giving him lines!

Also Aydan and Oosh are going to be bffs, so yeah...

SO. It looks like there's enough interest that we could do this! So the next question becomes--WHAT SHOULD THE PERFORMANCE BE?

They could do an old school historical classic like Moreta's Ride.

They could do a Dalibor historical classic, like the Founding of Dalibor (or the First Iron or something)

They could do a recent Dalibor play, like the Flight of Callistath (or the Hatching of Jainath, or be terrible and do something totally in poor taste like one of the hatchings where people died, under the guise of helping the kiddos cope with tragedy in a creative way or whatever)

They could do a "Harper Original", by which I mean we co-opt Shakespeare or something and make it Pernese, like Romeoth and Juliesk or Where The Wild Whers Are, The Wherzard of Oz Pern, Peter and the Wher ETC

THE STORY:
Romeoth and Juliesk the red-star crossed lovers
aka a thinly veiled political commentary on the current divide of the Weyr


The wherhandlers and dragonriders of Keroon(a) have been feuding for turns upon turns, and it's even vicious and bloody and awful (and the narrator, when explaining this MAY make a reference to a refer wher/dragon double hatching that was full of BLOOD and HATE and HORROR because this is a tragedy). The Weyrwoman, Evall and gold Allistacth, plead for peace but tensions are still high UNTIL ONE DAY at a Gather, the passionate young Romeoth spies a beautiful and much beloved wher, Juliesk.

THEY FALL IN LOVE.

Which pisses off Juliesk's handler because she wants Juliesk to settle down with the nice Parisk because his handler is hot but whatev. Romeoth's rider, M'cutio, just thinks it's weird. ANYWAY they're all lovey dovey UNTIL the alpha handler and alpha wher Tybalsk find out (dun dun DUUUN) Tybalsk attacks Romeoth in an ANGRY RAGE but M'cutio intervenes and is most terribly, horribly, gruesomely and graphically mauled (lots of stumbling around stage holding his guts in) and passes out and Romeoth attacks Tybalsk in a rage (viciously! Bloodily!) and kills the wher, which prompts the Weyrwoman to make the decision to transfer him and M'cutio (assuming M'cutio survives).

Juliesk and Romeoth are DEVASTATED of course, until the Weyrleader/Lord Holder (NOT SO SUBTLY DISGUISED) F'riar comes up with a plan! Juliesk will fake her death by eating smokeweed tainted meat BUT F'riar has a cure, so she will merely fall into a deep, lethargic sleep. Romeoth finds her next to a herdbeast carcass, DESPAIRS, (because F'riar forgot to tell his dragon to let the dude in on the plan) and in ABJECT DESPAIR, Romeoth runs offstage/and or has a sheet tossed over him goes between, and Juliesk, awaking just in time to see him vanish, kills herself (possibly violently, possibly by throwing up the cure and eating the tainted meat and collapsing, foaming at the mouth, etc) Mercutio (now DRAGONLESS) dies of his horrible, horrible injuries and everybody ends the play HEARTBROKEN AND ALONE.

The End.

Kila's claimed Romeoth for Aydan and Chim's asked for Juliesk to be Akklyn, Queylln for narrator (pending getting permission from candidatemasters to have his chores be creche related OR THIS COULD BE THERAPY whatev)

She could be the Weyrwoman, only wear the wher costume anyway and not say her lines for the purposes of comedy. Or be Tybalsk who doesn't have to have lines, and just refuse to attack Aydan!

I also have a script for te Weyrzad of Pern which is much sillier and has te Good Wher of the North and the Wicked Wher of the West, if that's more Mousey style?

Lee this is amazing. Akklyn will probably break out of character and the 4th wall a lot. "Oh, yeah, because whers care about true love." XD

...Or the Weyrzad of Pern, which sounds hilarious too! Akklyn is one of the "Wherbrats" ??? Weyrbrats who love Whers??? ? so she's only going to agree to be in these plays for the wher-stuff haha

Also Aypoth will be SO PROUD of her babysat beebs regardless of what happens. She wipes a draconic tear of joy from her snoot in advance

Naanell can play background music and work behind the scenes ^^ Plus help/get the kids ready for the play. It can be part of her work towards walking the tables. Naanesk can be used as a 'noble steed'/table prop/prop of any description.

Kirryl could also be someone perhaps but I'm ok if she's just the one standing in the background happily holding a cloud and being 'the weather' because she is one of the younger ones xD Kire will be proud of her either way haha

The Narrator could always speak her lines, and she could just stand on stage in a wher costume, since I'm guessing the harper-in-charge of this would know she doesn't talk. BUT seriously no pressure to have her participate.

she can do something if you want, probably not the romeo and juliet one because it seems like all the spots ever are filled, but just put her where you want her

I'm sure there would be plenty of background/nonspeaking roles, since they'd want to get as many weyrbrats in on this as possible. And I feel like for a big role like narrator, they'd want someone a little older then the weyrbrats, so Quellyn would be perfect.

Actually, I could see Salina being one of the organizing members of this play, so she could see to it that Quellyn be allowed to be narrator, as a form of therapy. I know Quellyn is having a doubting-his-want-to-be-candidate moment since CalKal and Salina REALLY wants him to become a dragon rider :P

Woo! Okay! So, Romeoth and Juliesk won. Naanell will be in charge of music, Salina supervising the production, Naanask, Disk and any other kid-friendly whers can be in charge of set changes! (AND if they get in a fight during one of them and the scenery all falls down, I'm cool with that.
