Autumn, 6th Turn, 11th Pass
OOC: This is a nonsense, just for fun thread for Halloween. Feel free to post your characters interacting with the Pernese pumpkins. I will buy a random firelizard for whoever is the funniest/ most creative in their post. Fun thing to do while waiting for Fenrisk beebs!
Not that it was strange to find something strange at Dalibor, but the weyrfolk woke that morning to a strange sight indeed. What are they? Daidoroth asked, looking at the strange orange fruits that His had scattered from cliff to cliff. O'sho smiled but said nothing. When he was a boy his parents had gotten big orange fruits that they used for cooking and decoration. They must have been regional, because he had not seen them at Fort or Dalibor. In a strange fit of nostalgia he had endeavored to get one for Fajra, thinking it might amuse her to see a thing of his past. He had arranged the procurement with a trader he knew and when he had arrived with a cart full the Bronze Rider had bought them all. He and Daidoroth picked them up and placed them about the Weyr at night, so the weyrfolk had no explanation as to what they were or where they came from. O'sho intended to keep it that way.
Down in the 'Bowl people were already starting to inspect the mysterious gifts. Aydan sat cross-legged in front of one, staring it down. This orange thing was almost as big as he was when he sat, and he found it quite perplexing. Shardit had charged it only to find it quite solid and reel away, an orange smear on his proud crown. Bug was perched atop it, marveling at how far he could see from such an elevation. Yusriyath was nearby trying to eat one. Y'nis hooted while his Purple took one of the fruits and swallowed it whole. He gagged as it rolled down his throat. "Try chewing one next!" Y'nis suggested excitedly. He took a rock and began to pound away at a smaller one. Eventually he was able to pull it apart, only to find it slimy and seedy inside. Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! Yusriyath proceeded to hack the swallowed fruit back up onto his rider.

What’s that? Mouse asked Bray and Selene as they left the handler apartments in the morning, blinking down at one of the large orange fruits that stood in her path. Bray informed Mouse that he had no idea what it was and Selene screeched her concern. It could be dangerous! Charlie, padding out behind them, proved that he wasn’t going to let some flit tell him what to do. He walked right up to the pumpkin and licked it. It didn’t taste like much under his tongue and when he shifted it just right, it moved a little.
He decided in pretty short order that whatever this was, it made a great toy. The dog grabbed the thing in his jaws and tried dragging it with him. He ended up rolling over onto his back, but still had the pumpkin in his mouth.
Success.
Mouse was convinced that if the thing, whatever it was, hadn’t hurt Charlie, than there was no reason to think it was going to hurt her, so she picked up a smaller pumpkin…it was very heavy…and tried to get it open. When she couldn’t, she scrunched her little face up in displeasure and began to carry the heavy pumpkin. She didn’t know where she was going to take it, but there had to be someone who could help her.
She came across Aydan and frowned at him, plopping down her pumpkin in front of him. What is it? she asked the boy, going to pick the pumpkin up again but losing her balance and toppling back onto her butt. She whined, raising up enough to tap on the shell. Mouse wanted to know what was inside!

Imber had walked out of the barracks again this morning, against all the usual protests of her dragon, and Hikkikoth made his displeasure known as he tumbled after her, not paying attention to where he was going. But Imber, My. Imber, there is no need to go out, it's getting chill and I can't even imagine why- His eyes were fixed and whirring at his rider instead of anywhere else.
A misfortunate circumstance, as he promptly tumbled over his own feet and went tumbling in among a pile of the orange gourds that had been scattered around the weyrbowl. Imber lost sight of him for a moment before his head popped up, covered in orange goo. Imber... the little black moaned as he tried to shake off the stringy mess. Imber stifled a giggle for a moment before she hauled herself over to where he was, cooing and fawning over the little thing. "It's okay, we'll get you cleaned up in no time. But... But the thingy is ruined, it has a hole in it now." She was swiping at the innards on him while gazing at the one he managed to crash into. Goop was spilling out onto the ground from the ragged edges that his head had created.
Good! It shouldn't have been there in the first place and whomever put it there is a terrible person, leaving them around for people to trip on and get hurt with! His paw lashed out and it, making it tumble over itself. Imber gasped and went after it, picking it up. "Someone left it here because it's interesting! Not because it was funny to make you fall, Hikkikoth. Now, how are we going to fix this?" She crossed her arms as she looked down at the thing. Hikkikoth shrugged and plunked himself down beside it. He knew Imber, she wouldn't move until she had figured out how to fix it.
Imber pursed her lips and looked from Hikkikoth to the gourd and back again a few times. And then inspiration struck. Taking out her belt knife, she stuck it in and began to carve out circles above the hole he had made, and then reached her hand into the inside and scooped a bit more of the innards to the front. When she finished she stood up and grinned. "So. What do you think?"
I think it looks like someone being sick, what with all that stuff spilling out the mouth. Odd shaped head, though, so maybe it's fitting he looks like he's being sick, the black said dismissively. Imber grinned. "Well, then, I think I've done my job! Now let's go get you cleaned off."

G'lin was yet again searching for his flitt. Dimglow was a sweet, happy little thing, but he did very much live up to his name. He had managed to sorely offend Doom earlier, which had resulted in a bout of enraged screeching and G'lin having to leave the room to go work on his latest project somewhere more quiet. That had lasted about a half hour before he felt guilty about abandoning his poor new baby flitt to the mercy of his irate older black. By the time he had returned to his weyr, however, Doom was sulking and Dimglow was nowhere to be found. A query to Anablimyth had given him a vague answer about the silly yellow being somwhere in the Weyrbowl, which had prompted G'lin to go looking. The Weyrbowl was a very big place, for such a young little flitt.
He frowned in surprise as he saw the strange orange gourds scattered around. He had seen them now and then, but never this many in once place. He grinned a bit as he saw the mournful black dragonet and his new Weyrling rider playing with some. The little black seemed unimpressed, but his rider seemed quite amused.
He paused, spotting Mouse lugging a huge orange fruit around and grinned. "Do you need help with that, Mousie? I'll help you if you help me find Dimglow. I've lost him again..." At the sound of the flitt's name, he felt an overwhelming surge of happiness. He paused, looking around. Only one creature could be that brightly happy in his mind. "Dimglow? Where are you?" Another surge of giddy happiness. "Sharding dimglow flitter..." He cast about, trying to figure out where it was coming from.
His eyes hit upon a very strange sight. One of the gourds, on the ground, seemed to be hollowed out. And... Glowing? No, not glowing. That was yellow firelizard hide! The strange orange thing had small holes in the front that looked like a weird, lopsided wher-ish smille. There must have been a hole in the back as well because some light shone through. He picked up the gourd, peering into it. A happy coo greeted him and Dimglow poked his head out to nibble his owner's nose happily. He did love his human very, very, very much! He was so handsome and gave Dimglow food... Speaking of food, Dimglow was hungry! He cheeped happily. G'lin sighed. "You scared me. I though Doom had chassed you off. That isn't a nest and now you're all slimy... I'm going to have to give you a bath now.
Bath! Dimglow knew the word bath! Dimglow loved baths! Dimglow loved most things, of course, but a nice bath and oiling and food, then more adventures! Dimglow's life was very, very fun indeed. He cooed happily, more than content to be ferried around in his new orange nest that was way better than anything Doom could try and foist on him. Dimglow was a free, independant flitt! A free independant flit with his own smiley nest! Yes, yes he loved this very, very much indeed.

Another one of the strange orange things fell with a thump onto the ground next to him. Aydan stopped frowning at the gourd to look over and see where it had come from. A little girl was the culprit, staring down at her orange thing in much the way that he had been staring at his. She went to pick it back up, lost her balance and fell on her bottom, which made Aydan smile. Girls were stupid. She rocked back up though, tapping on the thing plaintively and looking at him. As a master of silence, Aydan understood her message loud and clear: what was inside? An excellent question, actually. And now that she had asked he really wanted to know.
While he cast about for a tool, a man approached Mouse. Aydan ceased his search to glare at G'lin. What did he want? Why was he near his orange thing? Couldn't he see that they were trying to do something? The Handler must have heard somehow because he moved off in search of something shortly after. Satisfied with his telepathy skills, Aydan returned to Mouse and her orange thing with a pointy looking rock. He sat down across from her, gourd between them, and began to hammer at it with his rock. The two children's proximity normally would have triggered Shardit to attack, but the Brass still seemed a little dazed from his head on collision earlier.
It took a few minutes, but the hard orange shell eventually gave in. Aydan tossed the rock over his shoulder and pulled off a big piece of the outside part. While hard on the outside, the inner side was gooey and stringy. He peered inside and saw a pile of guts all mixed up with seeds. Weird. And it smelled funny too. From the way the Purple had spit one back up earlier he doubted that it tasted very good either. Reaching inside he came back out with a hand full of mush. He looked over at Mouse and stuck his hand in her direction, curious to see if she would eat it.

Grr grr~ Grrr! The black pillie said as he tried to shove one of the larger odd orange things towards his humanpet's weyr. These strange whatsits had appeared overnight, and Greedo just knew he had to have one. It would make the perfect addition to his pile! What it exactly did he didn't know, nor did he truly care. Perhaps this will be the key that will let him command over the Weyr! He worked his head underneath the pumpkin and lifted. With a bit of effort, he managed to flip it over with a soft thump into the ground. Perhaps pushing it would've been easier to do, but this was apparently working enough as he put his head underneath it again.
Before he did, though, he peered at the little Weyrbrat watching him and giggling. He didn't understand why his humanpet kept Taevon. He wasn't a good minion, and for a piece of treasure it seemed that a lot of people stole it all the time only for his humanpet to get him back again. Grrrrrr grr! It would be nice if his humanpet's minion would help, you know. Perhaps he would be nice and let him take something from his stash.
Tae only gave another giggle as the pillie fussed at him, and went over to another one of the round fruits. Looking at it, he bent down to pick one up, but couldn't even budge it. "Why they so heavy?" He asked through a strained voice as he tried to do anything to move it, but to no avail. "I gonna need smaller one." He looked to his father's black firelizard that had been tasked with keeping an eye on him, and Cloud began looking for one that looked like the boy could carry it. When he found one that looked suitable, he landed on top of it and chirped.
Tae toddled over to where the flitt was, leaving the disgruntled pillie to slowly move the heavy thing on his own. Upon reaching the particular pumpkin, he attempted to pick this one up. It was still heavy, but he could at least get it off of the ground. Huffing from the effort, he looked about until he spotted Mouse and Aydan together and observing the ones that they had collected.
Letting his go, it would be easier just to see what they had done with theirs. He ran off to them with Raincloud following right behind, and stopped in front of the two of them. "Hello, Sis." He said to Mouse, using the name he had thought up since he knew she didn't speak. Looking at the goopy mess that Aydan was holding, he made a face at it. "Eeeww, that what inside?" He said, sticking his tongue out. If that's what was in them, he surely hoped that no one had plans to make a pie out of these things.
