Name | Aloysius (will take the name A'sius when impressed)
- Nickname | Aly (Allie)
Gender | Female
Age | Fourteen Turns
Sexuality | Heterosexual
Location | Dalibor Weyr
Rank | Dragon Candidate
Personality
Quiet, would be the only word to describe Aloysius. She doesn’t talk a lot, and prefers to keep to herself more often than socialize with other people. This is mainly to make sure her secret isn’t revealed, but it’s also because it’s how she’s had to be her entire life. Being quiet, being a loner is just easier for the young woman. She doesn’t deal with change well, so she just keeps everything in, because she knows she’ll never change, and her closest confidant, Ren, the firelizard, will never change…and that’s good enough for her.
While she doesn’t go out of her way to talk to other people, if she is spoken to, she won’t shy away from the conversation. Maybe she would have once, when she’d been a child, but now she just realizes it isn’t worth it. She’d learned enough, over the years pretending to be a boy, how to pass herself off as one, and that’s what people see who talk to her…a quiet, but intelligent young man with warm eyes and a warmer smile.
If one can get her to smile.
She doesn’t seem to have any sense of humor whatsoever, thinks jokes are a waste of time and childish, and prefers to work for everything she gets. Aly was never handed anything in her life, she’s always had to work for it. She’s eternally eager to prove herself, to do better and better each time. She’ll do tasks over and over again in an attempt to do them better, and better herself in the attempt. She’s thirsty for praise, and works harder than your average candidate to get what she wants. This girl is a weyrlingmaser’s dream – hardworking and obedient to a fault. She’s all about getting things done and getting them done right. She wants to prove to herself that she can be better than any other girl, even if she thinks ill of her own sex without realizing it.
She tends to shy away from female companions if only because she thinks they may be more likely to tell she isn’t a boy, and she doesn’t go out of her way to introduce herself to dragons in case their telepathic abilities include being able to tell that she’s really a girl. She adores dragons though, and hopes that when she impresses, it will be to a color she can continue her charade with.
Appearance
She looks like a boy, plain and simple. She’s slightly taller than average for a girl; 5’9’’, with a stick thin frame and boyishly short hair. She keeps it that short on purpose, not only because it makes her look more like a boy, but because it’s easier to do things when your hair isn’t long. She’s only recently hit puberty, but she was blessed with a very thin body type. She doesn’t have wide hips and her breasts are small enough yet that a simple leather breast band keeps them flat enough to her chest to avoid detection. Her hair, usually shorn haphazardly short with her own knife is a dirty blond color – but I can look lighter or darker depending on the lighting – and is usually pretty messy. Her skin is pale and there’s a smattering of very light freckles across her nose.
Her features are very androgynous. Her nose is wide and her mouth is small. Her ears stick out slightly and her eyes are a slate blue color, and her cheekbones are quite sharp. She has long, thin legs, long arms with long hands with thin fingers. She keeps her eyebrows thicker, to further the illusion, and she hasn’t gotten very pronounced curves in puberty.
As far as dress goes, comfort takes a back seat to long, baggy clothing that can further hide her assets. She prefers not to get dressed up, but when she does, it’s usually in dress shirts and slacks. You will never catch this girl in anything slightly girly unless it’s the tank tops she wears when she’s mostly alone.
Family
Father | G’tav
Mother | Auriele
Siblings | None
Pets
Impressed to: Aloysius
Name: Ren
Age: Nine turns
Color: Green (CFEAC5)
Appearance: Pudgy for a green. She isn't particularly attractive looking. Her wings are massive though, and her tail is long and whip like. Her tail is so dexterous, she can pick things up with it. Her hide is a very, very pale green that's nearly white. She almost looks sickly. Her wingsails are so dark green that they're almost black, and there's a ring of this same color around her eye.
Personality: Genius flit. Stupid smart, even for a gold flit, her intelligence is on par with some dragons. She's constantly tinkering with things, trying to build them to be bigger and better. Aly often wakes up with new inventions in her room and is constantly stepping on Ren's inventions. She does rise, as all females do, but she doesn't rise nearly as often as other green flits. It's like her inventions are more important than reproduction.
History
Auriele came to Fort Weyr when she’d finally bartered passage from the cothold she was born into. The girl, only thirteen turns, had big ambitions and even bigger dreams. She’d impress a dragon and show everyone that she could be worth something. Unfortunately for the girl, candidacy, especially candidacy in Fort Weyr wasn’t everything she’d thought it would be. Not only was she a girl who didn’t share the typical conservative notions of the other weyr denizens, but she had a very positive view about the mutation colors in other parts of the weyr. Never quiet with her voice or her opinions, she would loudly proclaim that this copper, or that cyan born in another weyr was absolutely gorgeous.
Never once did she express interest in one of the mutations, nor did she ever one mention leaving Fort for a weyr with the mutations, but the more conservative members of the weyr still looked down upon her, much like her own family had. In very short order, Fort went from being a dream to the young girl to being an absolute nightmare. She stood for years and years without impressing, and others whispered behind her back and laughed outwardly to her face. They said that that was what she got for wanting a mutation, over a normal dragon. After even longer of this, the whispering started to get more intense. They wanted her to take her unconventional ideas and leave Fort…go to a weyr she’d be welcomed at.
That’s what she decided to do. She’d had enough of not impressing, and the whispers and the dirty looks she got wherever she went. Unfortunately, fate would inspire to keep her at the weyr, when G’tav the brownrider used the eighteen year old girl as a flightmoth during a queenflight. The next day, the girl refused the riders attempts to get her to go between with him, because whatever happened was on him, and she’d had enough with Fort Weyr meddling in her affairs.
Turns out, she’d gotten pregnant, but G’tav wouldn’t be around to see the child. He died in threadfall before it had even been born…and Auriele knew it wouldn’t be advisable to leave now, not when she was with child, without a destination in mind. So she would have the child, and when it was born, she would take it with her and leave. It was a good plan.
Three months after G’tav’s death, the child was born. A baby boy. Still ostracized from the rest of the weyr, she kept her child close to her, not letting him leave her sight to go play with the other children or really ever socialize with anyone, really. The day was rapidly approaching when the child would be big enough for Auriele to take with her…unfortunately, the child had his own views on the matter and was rapidly growing enamored with the weyr and the thought of one day impressing himself. Auriele was vehemently against the idea, and tried her best to keep him from thinking about dragons or impressing. She went so far as to procure him a firelizard egg, which hatched a little green he named Ren.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to stop his dreams of grandeur, and Ren became a miniature of what Aloysius one day wished he would become. He had wild adventures with just his firelizard for companionship, and maybe, if he knew what would happen, he would have agreed that leaving was best. Auriele couldn’t stand staying in the weyr a turn longer, and she couldn’t bear shatter her only child’s hopes and dreams…so she just left him. She dropped him off at the crèche one day when he was seven and just left. Goodbyes would only draw out the child’s pain, so she didn’t.
He was crushed by the departure of his mother, but he still had Ren, and while the firelizard wasn’t a substitute, she would have to be enough. Not used to socializing with other children, Aloysius kept his distance. He played by himself and resisted any attempts by the other children to get him to play. Ren was the only companion he needed…well, Ren and his own dreams. His solitude from the other children only caused his dreams to get bigger and bigger. He would get a bronze dragon, and he’d show everyone how awesome he could be.
Everything changed the day Aloysius went to go register as a candidate. The physical they performed on all of the potential new candidates was routine, and Aly did everything they asked of him, only to be told – unintentionally on the part of the healer – that he wasn’t a boy at all, like he’d grown to believe he was his entire life…but a little girl. She was shocked silent at this information, and the healers had to bodily carry her to the barracks.
The female side of the barracks.
Aly decided – and Ren agreed that it was a very good idea – to keep pretending to be a boy. It was what she knew and what she was used to, and she really had no reason to be a girl. So she acted. As soon as her belongings were moved to the barracks, Aly began to move them again, but this time to the male’s side. She picked an empty room, and hoped beyond hope that her stick thin figure and boyish haircuts would keep people from seeing that she was really a girl. It didn’t work. The records they kept showed her on the female side of the barracks, and she was rapidly moved.
Miserable for the first time in her short life, Aly stood at hatchings. She avoided green dragonets and thought extremely negative thoughts at them. Once, a gold looked like it was coming her way and she hightailed it off the sands. She couldn’t stand anyone knowing she was a female anymore than those who already did…so she decided to leave once she was thirteen. Luckily, Ren had mothered a small clutch of eggs, and she was able to use those to barter passage away from Fort. She didn’t know where she was going, but she was going to get as far away from the weyr as she could.
For the next several months, Aly worked as a deckhand on the ship. She continued to pretend she was a boy, and the deplorable conditions she was working in and the fact that she was likely to hit puberty later than other girls helped a lot. She was little more than a drudge, pretending to be a boy and older than she was to get the most strenuous work. She was exhausted every night.
Finally, she was dropped off on the Western Continent, and Aloysius was lost. So she started walking. Ren helped a lot, catching her small things to eat until they came to a small cothold. She was lucky that they were very kind people. They took her in in exchange for helping them around their farm, and while this wasn’t the ideal situation, she had a roof, warm meals, and a way to bathe herself. This would do until she figured out her next move.
Her next move came in the form of a dragon. A search dragon from the nearby weyr. The dragon told her that the weyr was named Dalibor, and that she could stand for clutches there if she wanted to. She felt no reason to tell the dragon that she was a girl, and miraculously, he just assumed Aly was a boy and they were off to Dalibor, where she could continue to stand in a weyr where her identity wouldn’t be revealed.
Dragon Preference
Dunno how well she'd do with a super sugary sweet dragon, and no blues please. Otherwise, go nuts. Something that would cause maximum drama with Aly bb. Also, mauling is welcome and terribly encouraged.
