Dinner had gotten infinitely harder an affair than it’d used to be. Delilah had asked him to stay away from Sandr for six months, and while it hurt him more than he’d ever tell anyone to comply, she’d made a compelling argument, and he’d felt like he’d had little choice in the matter. For days now, he’d locked himself in his room, only leaving for lessons. He hadn’t even eaten for several days now, for fear of running into Sandr…Al’dr. Leaving for dinner meant making sure that the new blue weyrling wasn’t also in the dining hall, because he was sure his resolve would crumble terribly if he saw the other boy.

Today was a rest day, and Kaius had spent most of the day in bed. Sleeping was simple. It was easy to forget about everything and just close the world out. Still, there came a time when even Kai couldn’t sleep, and he was just lieing in bed, fully dressed, eyes staring at the wall as if it was truly fascinating. It was nearing dinnertime, and Shobhaith had just returned from feeding. The purple rumbled something lightly, dropping Jaeger off in the weyr. The black pillie had taken to asking for a ride up to the weyr from Sho when he was at the lake. Seeing an opportunity, the pillie charged up onto the bed, starting to dribble water from his mouthparts into Kai’s ear.

“Jaeger!” The boy grumped, sweeping the pillie off of the bed into an undignified heap on the floor…right on top of Jax, who gave a yelp and immediately started a fight with the ornery pillie. The fight startled Pony, who’d been perched on Kai’s right shoulder, who in turn startled Aaylii, Puck, Mab, and Oberon. Titania was perched on the bedpost, staying as far away from Aaylii as possible. The orange and the red still didn’t get along, and Titania hissed at Aaylii when she got too close. “Oh for shards sake.” The boy rumbled and sat up in bed, trying to settle the cacophony of angry pets. He cast a glare at the amused dragon. “Good job, Sho.” Seems like they were all going a little stir crazy.

The purple gave a low rumble and stretched out on his ledge, wings against his back. You’re welcome. It’s time for dinner, anyway. You should go. K’ius snorted and pulled his knees to his chest, folding in on himself and pulling his gaze away. “M’not hungry.” Aaylii and Titania were fighting over one of Pony’s shiny things, and the little cyan was peeping fearfully, a little too scared of the sub-queens to try and get her item back. You can’t lie to me. I can feel how hungry you are. You can’t just not eat ever again. Kai hadn’t bothered looking up at Sho, getting up, at least, to go wrench the thing away from Titania and Aaylii and handing it back to Eponine, who cheeped her love and things and betweened to go hide it again. “At least for a few more months. Watch me.”

Snorting, Shobhaith stuck his neck out, grabbed the back of Kai’s shirt delicately within his jaws, dragged the boy over to him and trapped him gently yet firmly within his massive paws. K’ius made a startlingly undignified sound and flailed, but Sho just held him firmly, unable to hide the amusement in his tone. Go eat or I won’t let you go. I’ve been fed. I’m good for the rest of the night. Stubbornly, the boy thought about telling his dragon to bring it, but ended up sighing heavily, realizing how childish he was being…even if that didn’t usually stop him. “Fine! Geeze. Let me up. I’ll go to eat.” When Sho didn’t bother letting go, Kai glared and called Titania over. The red flit hovered before the boy. “Go see if Sandr is in the dining hall…don’t give me any sass right now, I’m not in the mood.” Then he glared.

“Don’t you take that tone with me, you little brat” The red looked like she wasn’t terrible inclined to obey K’ius right away when she perched lightly on his left shoulder…which elicited a howling screech from Aaylii, who burst into the air and went to divebomb the ugliest flit, making sure to give Kai a very clear picture of the red, making it known what she thought of her. Titania betweened before Aaylii could reach her, causing her to just divebomb Kai instead. His pain and confusion were doubled thanks to Aaylii’s thoughts, but he just sighed, brushing her off of him and getting a bite to the finger for his troubles.

Soon, he got a blurry picture of the dining hall as Titania informed him that Sandr was not among those eating dinner, or even the handlers eating breakfast, and not to wait for her to return because she was actually going to go find him and a certain blue flit who appreciated her…apparently unlike anyone in K’ius’ weyr. The boy sighed, drooping in Sho’s grip as the purple finally releases him. Good boy. Let’s go. “I hate you…so much.”

Fifteen minutes later, Kai was in the dining hall, having Oberon and Shobhaith keep watch as Pony wrapped herself around his neck and Aaylii was keeping her perch on his left shoulder warm and very claimed. He went to go get some food, trying to avoid everyone…especially those in his class.

Morning time was always a fun time. Matilda got to get up, stretch, remember she had a cast then flop back down. She'd stay in bed for a few moments and ruminate over bones, their importance, and the way they broke. It was usually Matisk who got her then, crawling onto the low platform that was Matilda's bed and giving her a mismatched stare.
Get up Matilda. Time to eat. Time to roam. Class today? Covering her face with her arms, Matilda would stretch to the best of her ability while sat on by a baby wher, and cover her face with her arms.
“Yup. Food then roam. Not sure about class. We'll see. Gennesk is really good about telling us. Careful now.”
Careful, would come the parroted response as Matisk jumped from the bed. Already she had shallow scrape on one leg healing. Sometimes Matisk would get too excited and forget. She waited patiently by the door while her bonded got ready. Matilda always took so long, in Matisk's opinion.

A bit later, when feeding Matisk chunks of fish, Clotho popped overhead, squeaking her news. Lachesis followed soon after, with Atropos coming up last. The three of them chirped and chattered eagerly, flashing images in a confusing array.
“Slow down!”
Calm flitses. Calm. The cyan tolerated the trio, and was friendly to them. But their excitement was overwhelming for both she and Matilda. Someone had to reign them in, and if it had to be, it would be Matisk. Landing on Matilda, the three took turns showing faded images of what they had seen and heard. A smile tugged at Matilda's lips, and she offered scraps of fish to the firelizards.
“Go, keep an eye out. I've got to feed Matisk.” With their treats, they betweened to keep an eye on their target.
“Hey Matisk, after you eat, how do you feel about a trip?”
Ok, roam where Matilda roam.

As soon as the wher finished her meal, Matilda cleaned her hands and Matisk's face before heading to the dining hall. Matisk pranced besides Matilda' looking around as she did. They had been to the dining hall before, Matisk followed Matilda almost everywhere. But it always felt new because of how many people shuffled in and out. Grabbing a tray and a bit of breakfast, Matilda went to where Clotho and Lachesis had shown her.
“Mind if I sit here?” She hovered near the table, Matisk staring at K'ius and his entourage.

He wasn’t really paying attention to what was going on around him. Once he had his food, he was content to pretend like the rest of the world didn’t exist and he could eat in peace without anyone bothering him ever.

Of course things never worked out quite like he had planned them too, and his firelizard gave dual utterances at nearly the same time as the girl approached them. Pony eeped and buried herself in Kai’s hair, and Aaylii gave a very low hiss, tightening her grip on Kai’s neck, trying to warn the girl away from what was her’s. Kai ignored her though, only looking up to see the girl approaching his table. For a moment, he was helplessly confused. Why would she want to sit with him? There were plenty of empty tables around the room.

His first instinct was to tell her no, in not so nice terms, and return to his solitary meal, but Shobhaith probed at his mind. Be nice! So, instead of what he wanted to do, he stared at her for a moment, muttered a muffled “Don’t care.” Under his breath and returned to his food. He wanted to ignore her completely, now that she was here…but he couldn’t. He kept looking at her wher…from the latest hatching by the size of her…but she was very, very odd looking. He couldn’t quite stop looking at her.

So K’ius matched Matisk, stare for stare, trying to pretend like he was just eating instead, but Pony was curious, but a little shy. She peeked out from around K’ius’ neck to watch the little cyan wher. She was a cyan too, see? They had something in common already. The little flit curiously probed the baby wher’s mind and asked her what was her stance on shiny things.

The joke was on K'ius. She would have sat down anyways. She was like a canine that scented prey, focused and unwavering. She could feel Matisk's delight at this. Determination would get them far, they just had to keep trying, and eventually they would succeed. Succeed at what was left for later pondering. Setting her tray down, Matilda plopped down, her small fair instantly joining her. Clotho near Matisk, Lachesis around Matilda's shoulders, and Atropos on the table. They were not hungry, but there was always the prospect of a treat.

Matisk st down, not moving her stare from K'ius until his firelizard peeked around. That one's color was familiar! The firelizard was much more like a tiny dragon, though, than a tiny her. Matilda took a bite, watching Matisk's look of confusion. Helpfully, she nudged Atropos,and the mottled green sent the wher pictures of shiny things. Clotho soon joined in. Matisk wasn't sure if she liked them, but they looked interesting.
Shiny look nice. Will see soon. There were many things Matisk had not seen, and while she was not as curious as her brother, she still wanted to see new things.

Satisfied that neither Matisk nor the firelizards had shorted out from picture overload, Matilda continued with her meal. She was rather good at making it seem like she was playing it cool, not chomping at the bit to ask. She wouldn't betray a hint of how curious she was. After her self-decided appropriate amount of time had passed, she nudged her plate aside.
“So, you're K'ius of Purple Shobhaith, right?” Her hands knitted together and the rested her chin on them, giving K'ius a stare that could rival Matisk's in intensity.
“I've heard, from my sources, that you and one of the Nightnamers have been rather buddy buddy. Now, I'm not here to judge. I'm impartial.” She settled back and held up her hands, already surrendering to the anger she was sure would follow.
“I just need to check my sources. Sometimes things get muddled, and sometimes my sources make things more fantastic than they are.” A look was shot at Clotho, who chirped proudly. Clotho was a source! The best source, in her opinion. But Clotho was the best at everythiiing.
