Weyrleader D'lios has decided to put together an expeditionary force to locate and apprehend the fugitives presumed responsible for both the dragon poisonings and the disappearance of wherhandler Paget. My handler, Master Tussbuul, will be leading this force into a cave in pursuit of said fugitives, under the guidance of ex-Renegade Y'nis and Tuss' own knowledge of the land. But before we get underway, this force needs...you know...muscle. Brains might help too. Because this expedition is mostly going on in dark, dusty underground spaces, dragons are not particularly needed, and favorable candidates are more likely to be wherhandlers or talented craftsfolk. That said, you can have literally any of your characters give it a shot, ICly or OOCly (see below). The OOC application applies to any character you want to join, regardless of whether they ICly have interest! If a character has sufficient experience, Tuss may simply hunt them down and bully them into joining. :D His nickname ain't Ferdinand. The IC application is an IC set of inquiries Tuss wants answered by anyone who is ICly interested in the expedition. By having two types of applications I hope to accommodate both characters that actually want to go, and characters that you might want to play but that aren't goody-twoshoes. You may submit responses to both applications in this thread or via PM to me. Just remember that the IC app requires IC responses. OOC Application (for any character you would like to join with)[/u]: IC Application (for characters that actively volunteer)[/u]:

Wherlings are excluded, right? Because Tamarine is. Miner, but she also only recently Impressed.

No weyrlings/wherlings - they're too busy, too inexperienced, and it's much too risky.

What are the rules for NPC's? I was thinking about submitting Rushera & Vayuth, since Rushera does have some mining knowledge (though she's not apprenticed or anything like that; I figured she could be used for hauling things around to the target caves). She does, however, have an older brother who's a miner, and could be used here, if wanted. But he'd be a NPC, since I don't have the marks yet to buy an extra slot (plus the first slot I buy is going to Jasjitta, so she can have a chance at Impressing at a future Hatching).
So, ruling about new NPC involvement, please?

I will be apping with my new character as soon as she is approved. Her father (a well-regarded Journeyman Miner) is supposed to be going on the expedition. If someone who wants to participate would like to play him temporarily that would be perfect.

I would like to get Raksha involved once she's approved? Since Raksha grew up in a mining hold, and has been about said mines many a time, and then some about Crescent.~

Tigersilk One of the staff will need to answer that q. To everyone else: bump to remind you this exists, and you can app any of your characters (except weyrlings/wherlings). Characters do not have to be ideal participants to join.

NPCs are totally fine as long as they have reason to hear about the expedition and offer their services! (Although for the record, Tiger, you did get two new slots at 50 posts!)

50 posts? Main Stall thread (on first post) has it at 200 marks for an extra character slot. Then again, I didn't read the rest of the thread to see where that was changed, either, so..... probably misunderstood what that was referring to there.
Having two extra slots now gives me an extra incentive to get Jas's profile finished, and to make an extra one for Burl. :) Haven't tried to make a Crafter app yet; should be interesting to try it. :)

You get more character slots with high post numbers and adoptables don't count towards your spots, at least they didn't used to.
That said, I'm going to ap Talin later tonight. Nano is ending, I'll have posting time soon.

Player Name: Rhia Character Name: N'tharon Character Rank: Wingrider / Journeyman Smith (will be walking tables for Master knots in a few (4-5) turns) Character Age: 27 Bonded (if any): Black Sintharith (11 Turns) Firelizards (if any): Black Acetone (6 Turns)
- You can answer the questions below as they pertain to your character and their bonded, if they have one. - - Remember: all handlers and riders are trained in various forms of hand-to-hand combat. Wherhandlers have the most extensive training, which can include more exotic weapon types, armor use and working together with their wher to bring down a foe. -
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: *Exceptionally strong from his forgework, as well as physical strength training to maintain his capacity to lift heavy objects (Forgestones, anvils, etc.) *Does his best to avoid physical violence on account of he's more than aware that he can actually hurt someone (if he puts his strength behind a number of well-placed punches). He's also not a stranger to taking a beating, and can take it as well as he dishes it out. *He's on the larger side, so tends to be able to intimidate lesser-willed people into doing what he wants them to do, if he chooses to / they're vulnerable enough to that type of mentality. *Works well in / has no fear of dark places, used to being in and around mines (though not working them, but sorting out grades of ore that he wants for specific projects). *Sintharith is relatively silent (as much as a 21 foot overgrown lizard can be), and works well when required to speak with / organize with other dragons.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: *Approaches most if not all situations logically; he never does anything without consideration, but if forced to react quickly he puts the safety of his Weyrmates and Dragon before anyone else. *Sintharith has worked with and been bonded to Nel for so long that he often times can preempt His as far as plans and strategies go.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: *Very aggressive when put in a high-pressure environment; he follows orders, but if the chain of command unravels he tends to try and push people into doing what he thinks is best (which may or may not always be, depending on the situation). He's also a very take-no-prisoners sort of guy - if you harm someone who belongs to his Weyr, and there's nobody around in direct chain of command / anyone who can narc him out, he tends to eye-for-an-eye.
How well-trained are their firelizards (if they have any)?: *Acetone follows commands from His without question, however he has a fear of betweening, and while he'll do it if given no other option, if he has a choice he goes 'the long way'. He's also small and sleek, so he tends to fit in small and/or tight spaces.
As for side-notes; if any of these Assassins are from Ista, he would be recognized. He has a reputation there for being a bit of a scoundrel / loose cannon, so to speak. They would know he can be provoked into aggression by mentioning his dead intended Weyrmate (Synestria - killed by a Bronze Hatchling before Nel Impressed Sintharith).

Player Name: Maggie
Character Name: Talin
Character Rank: Priderunner
Character Age: 50
Bonded (if any): Blue wher Task
Firelizards (if any): Bronze Guard
- You can answer the questions below as they pertain to your character and their bonded, if they have one. - - Remember: all handlers and riders are trained in various forms of hand-to-hand combat. Wherhandlers have the most extensive training, which can include more exotic weapon types, armor use and working together with their wher to bring down a foe. -
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: Talin and Task have been guards at Southern Boll hold for many years. Both have trained in search and rescue, since this is part of a watchwher's duty, sometimes. They have brought down wild whers and felines around the Hold together for many years and work seamlessly together as a team, since they have had many Turns of practice. Good at working in tight spaces.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: Neither are afraid of physical conflict at all and they can both be very single-minded when it comes to going after an objective.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: Task tends towards violence and Talin does not necessarily discourage this. They might use excessive force and not be sorry about it.
How well-trained are their firelizards (if they have any)?: Guard is highly trained in search, he has been required by his owner and Wher to assist them on patrol and in guarding the Hold for pretty much as long as he has been alive. He takes his duty very seriously.
IC questions
Name: Talin, handler of blue Task Rank: Priderunner/Hold guad
Why do you want to join this mission? Because those bastards have been free long enough. My only child is a rider at Dalibor and was a Weyrling when the poisoning happened, he has been at risk and I want those responsible caught and punished sooner rather than later. I transferred here to assist in that mission.
Do you have any recorded misconduct? I will admit to misconduct recorded both here and at the Hold. There was an incident with an insolent trader a few turns back that I may have attacked when he insulted me, my wher and my son. I also assisted Queenrider Rayna in her excursion outside the Weyr, which is technically misconduct since I did not report it and had no orders to do so. In my defense, I didn't want a Queen and her rider outside of the Weyr without the extra protection that we could afford her. We still abandoned the Weyr without warning Audren, however, and that is therefore misconduct.
What tasks do you think you are best at? To put it another way, where in our company would you want to be assigned? We are good at guarding, patrolling and we can be intimidating muscle. Task's strength is remember things, not thinking, so being in charge of recording information and guarding the rear might be a good place for us.
If you have a wher, how good is your shared vision? Excellent.
If you meet up with a known target, what do you think you should do? That depends what our orders are. Instinctively, I would want the bastard dead, but if the person in charge had given us other orders, we would follow those. If we had no orders, we would react to capture the target and bring them back to the Weyr for questioning. I don't promise the target would still have all their fingers and toes.

Player Name: Rappu Character Name: Kerke Character Rank: Priderunner Character Age:31 Bonded (if any): blue Kersk Firelizards (if any): nope
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: Both have a lot of experience with patrolling and exploration. Kerke is excellent with knives and fists, and Kersk can easily subdue humans with his bulk, spiny body and big jaws. They both are good with strategical decisions and well able to work in sync.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: Kerke: - Smarter than he looks, good at making quick decisions and thinking up strategies on the fly - Doesn't shy away from physical confrontation - Tenacity
Kersk: - Level-headed, capable of critical thinking - Able to keep his cool in most situations - Clever!
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: Kersk is Not Sneaky with capital letters. He is large, bright baby blue and much more bulky than agile. Kerke is hot-headed and a daredevil - while Kersk keeps him from taking big risks, he seriously dislikes waiting
IC APP Name: Laurierd of Green Lauriesk Rank: Pridesecond/Bravo
Why do you want to join this mission? I've, like, worked with Tussbuul and Tusk in the past and trust their leadership. It's very important to, like, find these villains and bring them to justice, y'know? And as a Pridesecond it's def my duty to help out. Lauriesk is a smart, sneaky wher and a good fighter tho' I dislike fighting, I am quite good at, like tracking with Lauriesk. I can totally hold my own in a fight (I hope) but I think it's, like, better to try an' talk things out, right?
Do you have any recorded misconduct? No! Lauriesk has, like, bitten an ex or two but that was turns ago, way back in Southern Weyr.
What tasks do you think you are best at? To put it another way, where in our company would you want to be assigned? Lauriesk and I are well-suited for, like, tracking. Lauriesk is great at ambushes, too! Hounding out the villains would be, like, totally up our alley! We can hide and spy really well, so we could also, y'know, find out how many enemies should be at their campsite.
If you have a wher, how good is your shared vision? We've got like, a lot of experience and usually patrol using shared vision, y'know, so it's pretty good!
If you meet up with a known target, what do you think you should do? That depends on the situation, doesn't it? I mean, if it's a single person we could like, subdue him but if it's a group, we'd retreat and spy on them, right? And send a message to others?
Flits: Orange Morsel and Blue Hamslice ...Not very suited for spying. Hamslice tries to help everyone he meets and isn't sly in the least, while Morsel is interested in being the queen of everything, not military exploits.

Thanks for all the apps guys. As far as an ETA: if all further apps (you can app multiple characters if you wish!) could be completed by December 10th, the choices will be made and the plot started around December 13/14 (Friday/Saturday). Let me know if you have any scheduling issues around that time. We will probably take an official break around Christmas/New Years depending on what kinds of traveling people have to do.

I am so excite! As it stands, I will be doing some PR Card paperwork / appointments between now and then (hopefully), and pending nothing comes up, I may, possibly, potentially be going down to see my folks for a few days around Christmas (depending on if my interview goes well or not :\ ).
I'll keep you posted if anything changes, but as it stands I should be good to go as far as being able to post regularly.

Player Name: Kiran Character Name: Kelsira Character Rank: Wingrider Character Age: 23 Bonded (if any): Blue Divith Firelizards (if any): Agate (Blue)
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: -Kelsira is both a taller, more muscular girl and a miner. Her strength would be an advantage in any fight she got into. -She is a thinker. Finding the cave would be something that she would be able to put her skills at puzzle-and-problem solving to, and she'd adore it. Besides that, she might be able to engineer a trap or two for escaping assassins.
Divith: None. He has no skills, he would be outside waiting for Kelsira to come back.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: -An eye for detail. If someone makes a misstep on her side, she will cover them in an instant, and be able to take down an assassin if they make a mistake. -Ability to follow orders. She won't disobey any direct orders and keep to the plan.
Divith: He is as cool as a cucumber. Would have no issue picking up/taking out any assassins that would come out of the cave.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: -She only knows basic fighting skills. She doesn't brawl or fight, so she would be at a disadvantage against a more skilled fighter. -She will see the little mistakes people make, but if it's a trap to lure her somewhere else/into a different situation where she might actually get killed, she won't notice. Can't see the forest for the trees sort of personality.
Divith: He probably wouldn't fit in the cave to begin with. Again, he'd be waiting outside.
How well-trained are their firelizards (if they have any)?: Very well-trained, but he would not be allowed to come along as the drama he brings to the table could be a distraction or a danger. He would leave the moment ordered but most certainly would be a liability.
As far as availability, I will be gone from Dec. 20th-30th. It's smack-dab in the time when most people will be gone, so I hope I won't be holding threads up.

OOC: Player Name: Chek Character Name: Burleinherjar Character Rank: Wherhandler Character Age: 34 Turns Bonded (if any): Burlesk
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: Ein and Burlesk are… highly stealthy ninja assassins. Burlesk has an incredible spatial awareness that rivals what a white wher can do – he’s always aware of where he is in space, and can jump himself and his handler into any space they can fit into without accident, and as such always knows the precise dimensions of any space he is in or about to be in. They specialize in light armor, low noise, slings, knives long and short (so many knives), and blunt force attitude adjustment.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: She’s very patient, very calm, and deals well in stressful situations. Burlesk is more than happy to stab someone, and Ein has sort of picked a lot of that up, making her a lot more horribly ruthless and pragmatic than she seems, aka she’s your assassin/rogue.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: When storming a cave? Well, they prefer to work from shadows, so a full on storming of the gates might cause her some problems as far as her fighting style goes, but she can make due flanking someone. The other problem is… well, she and Burlesk being there might mean things are slightly more prone to being fatally full of holes.
IC: Name: Burleinherjar, but call me Ein Rank: Handler to Black Burlesk
Why do you want to join this mission? I’m tired of the threat of these assassins looming over our heads constantly; they should have long since been punished for their actions against the weyr. I wouldn’t mind being involved in bringing these people to justice… and the chance to give Burlesk his head regarding his first instincts would be quite a relief from the stress of managing his behavior constantly. (OOC: She’s being formal because she’s very obviously trying not to just say she wants to let Burlesk loose on people. Because that is bad.)
Do you have any recorded misconduct? I don’t, at least not at this weyr, and not any time since I was young enough to be a Dragon Candidate, so it’s been a while. Burlesk is a high spirited boy, and sometimes causes… concerns, but I’ve got a firm hand on him and I don’t believe we’ve been more than talked to regarding anything that was proven to be his fault.
What tasks do you think you are best at? To put it another way, where in our company would you want to be assigned? Burlesk and I would prefer something more scoutlike; we like to be out moving quietly a little bit independent from the rest of the squad. We do well when we have discretion on first encounters. Burlesk hates to be surprised and tends to react… badly, so we endeavor to be the ones doing to surprising. We’ve gotten rather stealthy.
If you have a wher, how good is your shared vision? Burlesk and I have an excellent bond, and our shared vision is very, very accurate. The scar does not impact his vision at all, just so you know. Burlesk also shares his sense of surroundings with me.
If you meet up with a known target, what do you think you should do? Quietly incapacitating the target and securing them would be of paramount importance. Regardless of how incapacitated they were by the end, unless special handling was requested. (OOC: She means she gonna cut some throats. IN case it wasn’t clear.)

Post by Tigersilk on Dec 2, 2013 21:48:17 GMT -5
Player Name: Tigersilk Character Name: Burl Character Rank: Journeyman Miner Character Age: 25 Bonded (if any): None Firelizards (if any): Black Quartz, green Slate
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: Burl has size, bulk, and the strength to back it up. If needed, he can lift a grown man and carry him over his shoulder without much of a problem. He is also a good brawler, and has some other fighting skills involving weapons, though he isn't the greatest at using them.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: Burl has made himself into a disciplined young man, forcing himself to see things as coldly logical as he can, without loosing touch with his humanity (his flits help with that). He will not touch mood-altering substances like alcohol unless he absolutely must do so; his memories of his drunken father and his eventual fate still haunts his life, and he has no desire to join his father in disgrace.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: Burl's father, Torlen, was a MasterMiner who brought shame to himself and his family by being forever drunk when off-duty, and murdering Burl's mother in a drunken rage. Torlen was stripped of his Master privileges and sentenced to mine work as one of the prisoners. This shame still overshadows Burl's life, and he feels he must forever make up for this by being, for lack of a better descriptor, 'The Hero' who must charge in and save his fellows if he feels they're under attack. Or charge in and possible 'take the bullet' if someone threatens the lives of his mission mates. He will likely be overprotective of his little sister, Rushera, IF she's included as part of the mission.
How well-trained are their firelizards (if they have any)?: Quartz and Slate can be good at spying; they know how to keep quiet and make themselves 'small' and sneaky if they need to. Relaying accurately what a third party is saying to Burl, however, can be a challenge sometimes.
(Burl can be stationed at Crescent Hold, if the party leader Tussbuul is recruiting anyone from that area directly, instead of having them come right to the weyr itself to be recruited. He can be convinced to join the party if for no other reason to protect his little sister from threats, regardless if she's actually present for the mission. He'll likely see his help at catching the assassins as a way to keep his sister's dragon from death by poisoning.)

Name: Arabera Rank: Apprentice Miner
Why do you want to join this mission? I would be honored to be a part of this serious mission. I know I am an outsider, but I have extensive experience and my help could be mutually benefecial to us both. I adapt quickly and would be a vulnerable asset down in the caves and tunnels. I am also dying for the adventure of it and am desperate to see what might be found in the unexplored underground of the Western Continent. My father is scheduled to go and I am like to burst if I am not allowed to accompany him.
Do you have any recorded misconduct? No
What tasks do you think you are best at? To put it another way, where in our company would you want to be assigned? I would like to be among the people assigned to actually go down into the caverns looking for the criminals in question. My familiarity with the dark and quick thinking would be useful- especially if we find someone.
If you have a Wher, how good is your shared vision? N/A
If you meet up with a known target, what do you think you should do? Apprehend them! Quickly and carefully. They can then be handed off to the appropriate people and questioned.

Player Name: Zane. Character Name: Raksha. Character Rank: Viridianrider, wingrider. Character Age: 21 Turns. Bonded (if any): Viridian Jedenath. Firelizards (if any): Black Rask, green Sharra, and bronze Noehl.
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?:
Raksha has always gone exploring in the mines as a child, and in her adolescent years (at Crom and Crescent both.) She was known for her rebelliousness nature by her family, and closest friends, and therefore it wasn't unlike her to get into a few scrapes every now and again. She enjoys finding out the "truth," as it were, and therefore is quite the quiet and sneaky girl. She's not averse to hiding out in dark places, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?:
Raksha is very calculating, and quite the problem-solver, where it's needed. Her outgoing and hyperactive persona can be both endearing, and, other times, distracting. (Both could be advantageous, depending.) Her steady focus and drive to succeed are generally what keeps the girl going. Her ease around whers, and creatures of all kinds, not to mention her outward fearlessness, have gotten her through many a situation.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?:
The viridianrider isn't always the best at taking orders, not where she sees it ill-fit. Recognized as being independent, with an air of rebellion, she's not always the worlds greatest team-player for such reasons. She's an adventurous girl, and simply wants to do the right thing. The right thing, however, is based solely on her own opinions. She'll rarely allow anyone to sway her decisions.
How well-trained are their firelizards (if they have any)?:
Rask is beyond used to traversing dark places, and mines, with His. Sharra, however, is more cowardly. Rask listens to whatever His' says, no matter what he's being asked to do (usually.) Noehl, on the other hand, is Raksha's baby. The bronze will do any and all things asked of him. Hands down, he's the girls most obedient creature. He has quite a fair amount of intelligence over the black and green, not near as food-driven as the father, daughter, pair.
Name: Raksha. Rank: Wingrider, viridianrider.
Why do you want to join this mission?
I've grown up around miners, and so mines have always been a second home to me. With zero fear of the dark, or cramped spaces, I'd be willing to lend my support where it's needed. I've gone on many explorations in my day, both at Crom, and Crescent, both. I've got a keen eye. And, let's face it, I like to know the truth.
Do you have any recorded misconduct?
Despite what others may say-no.
What tasks do you think you are best at? To put it another way, where in our company would you want to be assigned?
Just put me in the mines, if that's your aim, and I'll find my way. I've never been the challenged sort in terms of directions, and I can most certainly follow instructions.
If you have a wher, how good is your shared vision?
I have a dragon, which, I know, isn't much use. However, I've tended to my fathers wher, so I have experience around them. I have flits, however, and they're just as used to the mines as I am. Rask is best, and lives up to his namesake.
If you meet up with a known target, what do you think you should do?
Devise a plan of action, and act with precision. I can move quick, don't worry about me! The sooner they're caught, the sooner they can be brought to justice.

EXCELLENT. ANOTHER!
Player Name: Chek Character Name: Baharl Character Rank: Pridesecond of Charlie Pride Character Age: 30 Bonded (if any): Iron Bask Firelizards (if any): Purple Spiral
What skills or experience do they have that might be relevant to finding and storming a cave full of assassins?: Baharl has had some time as a pridesecond, so she has a lot of experience riding herd on unruly folk (and their whers) as well as command experience. She has the average amount of experience with weapons, armor and hand to hand combat, but she is athletic and competitive, so she’s rather strong. She’s been around whers most of her life so is very, very good at working with them, and her bond with the much more serious Bask is very strong. Additonally, Bask's laregness makes him an excellent chariot.
What useful personality traits do they have in this situation?: She balances command experience with a willingness to follow, is easy to work with and a good second in command. She’s used to ranging alone, without support, but also can easily work with the team. She’s highly competent, and completes tasks with as high attention to detail, and she’s stubborn enough not to let a few setbacks stray her from her task.
What are the disadvantages of bringing them along when storming a cave full of assassins?: Well, to start? Bask is stupidly huge. And while this can be an advantage in a fight, it is also making him a huuuge target. Bask is also obsessively attached to Baharl, so her getting hurt or something similar might rile him up. A lot. Baharl is competitive, and stubborn, and might takes risks she really shouldn’t.
How well-trained are their firelizards (if they have any)?: Spiral is… unique, but when focused on a task or commanded to do something – be it reporting to Baharl, delivering a message, or investigating something for her – he is quick, efficient and very concise for a purple. He just makes himself scarce when not needed.

As a reminder: any additional apps you may submit (and again, you can submit for multiple characters, and you need an OOC app for any character you post) are due by tomorrow, December 10th @ 11:59PM MST!
