{desc=Lili & Co.}But MineLove, it does make sense. I think that Wherries are definitely related to Herdbeasts, aren't they?
No, silly. They're two different animals.
They're both -delicious-, you mean.
No, I mean...well...yes...but..
Lili looked exasperated, sighing at Peranzath with a rub of her face. Sometimes her Pink was just so sharding difficult. Lili loved her all the same, but Peranzath's penchant for half-senseless commentary and questions, let alone her out-there comparisons, had left the Harper-turned-Pinkweyrling more than a bit lackluster as far as this whole Dragonrider thing went.
It was sharding cold out, as well, and that tended to make matters worse. Lili didn't mind the cold so much as most, but Winter meant snow, and snow meant no sunshine. Of all the things Lili hated, it was gloom and gray of Winter snowstorms. At least she could play in rain without catching a cold. Right now, a cold was a horrible thing. If she caught one, Peranzath was sure to catch one, too. The last thing she needed was a sick Dragonet.
That hadn't stopped Peranzath, however. The Pink was determined to get her fill of the first proper snowfall of the season, and even in her Wherries-Have-Nothing-In-Common-With-Herdbeast debate with Hers, she was absolutely overjoyed by the white stuff. Pouncing around very much like a cat within the drifts, Pera's headknobs stuck out of the powder along with her wings, her tail twitching to and fro as the rest of her was collectively buried. She stuck her snout out, and like a little submarine, propelled herself through the frozen rain to send wisps and pieces into the air around her. Lili did her best not to laugh.
So many interesting things in here, MineLove! What -is- this?
Snow, Pera.
Do they have snow in other places? Or just here?
Even in her submerged state, some things never changed.
They have snow in other places, yes. Where it's cold enough. Some of the places on Pern are too warm, they just get rain. Sometimes it doesn't even get cold there.
But...why?
It just doesn't.
Oh.
And just like that, Peranzath's mind was elsewhere. Snow, snow, snow. Wasn't snow like...something else? Wait...wasn't...nevermind. The Pink Dragonet whirled her way through another drift, before her head popped up from within it and she crooned at Hers.
Lili, however, was only marginally paying attention to her Pink. Enough to keep her out of trouble and danger, of course, but the Pinkweyrling couldn't help but wonder what Seph was doing. She hadn't seen him since after the Hatching, and she had heard about some other Candidates getting caught doing things they shouldn't have. It had effectively ruined any chance she had to keep tabs on him, and make sure he was all right. After what that Iron had done to him, it was enough to make her worry; but she couldn't. She had to soldier on, she had to ignore everything else that mattered to her. There was only Peranzath, there was only chores and training and lessons and other Weyrlings. She wasn't a Candidate anymore, and the prospect of four turns, if not more, without even being able to see him beyond a passing glance almost tore her heart out. But it had to be that way.
Peranzath crooned at Lili again, and she dragged her gaze from the bleak chill of the gray-lit day towards the flash of cross-hatched pink, coral and magenta within the pale white. Peranzath peered back at her with whirling green and blue eyes, before suddenly Lili found herself taken out at the knees and back-first into a snow drift, with a shriek of protest.
